Seriously, clean your washing machine's lint trap.
Yes, we all know about the lint trap on the dryer, but your washing machine has one too.
For the last couple years my basement would smell like some kind of rotting sewage every time we did a load of laundry. Of course I assumed the smell was coming from the sewer, but I couldn't figure out how. All the floor drains had water in the trap, and the smell only occurred when the washer drained, not the utility sink or anything else.
Then one day on a whim I opened the little door on the front of the washer and was greeted with the same awful smells. The trap was full of half-decomposed hair and the water would run through that sludge every time it drained.
Now that it's cleaned, no more stench. And I imagine it wasn't doing the drain pump any favors either.

Coming back to add something else in this discussion, since I am a reasercher in Microplastics pollution in rivers:
The most common environmental microplastics found in most river and soil studies are: Microfibers from synthetic clothing such as polyester, lycra and Spandex, if you have any elasticated product like yoga pants or streachy jeans, or a fleece (most are at least a blend of artificial fibers), most modern satin and velvet fabric, most sports gear and waterproof clothing. Omg you are contributing to microplastics, how dare you!... Your just as evil as those pesky vegans.... Also the OPs post forgets one of key aspects of environmental pollution, the environmental pollution chain. Which is: Source -> pathway-> receptor, and for synthetic clothing, that pathway is clothes washing especially in dryers.
Which last time I checked my notes.... People don't wash pleather and faux fur... It is therefore highly unlikely that it contributes significantly to plastic pollution directly from the owners wearing it, washing it and mentaining it. So it's almost like those products are a minor issue, it's still a problem yes... But you aren't bleeding microfibers through your pipes everytime you wash your leggins. Who'd of known. Instead pleather makes it way to landfill, like all other plastic products do, so while some pleather wearers might also vegans so you can blame them for the plastic making its way to landfill, you will also have to point the finger at people that just so happen to be unable to afford animal leather or plant based alternatives (which plenty exist).
Unlike washing synthetic clothing, plastic in landfills, provided they meet modern environmental standards, they are designed to entomb their contents within them. And While it's better if we think about recycling and embracing a circular economy, The entoumbment of a pleather jacket has far fewer environmental consequences than yoga pant fibers in a river. Or sewage sludge containing millions of microplastics being spread on farmland for plasticiser chemicals to be absorbed into the food we eat.
We need system change, not shaming economically poor consumers.
If you look at oceanic Microplastics it is majoritiveley found to be from fishing nets.
