Hello! :) The Bone season looks so intriguing! But I saw you that you said it sucks - so would you mind sharing what you didn't like about it?
Here is my review comparing the old version and the updated anniversary edition. Here and here are my live blogs from this year and my first read in 2019 (turns out I messed up the tag the second time around whoops). And here is specifically the anniversary liveblog.
I have. So many qualms with The Bone Season. I'm looking for the anniversary editions of the other books because this was admittedly a fun project and I'd like to continue it, but UGH. There is SO much potential in this world and FOR WHAT!!!!!!! A shitty romance?? Enslaving humanity by a secret society pulling all the governmental strings?? ICK.
I also have issues with how Paige's sexuality was handled in book one (I don't know how it progresses in the series, which is one reason I'd like to source the new versions but I don't want to pay cover price lmao) particularly in the updated version. I'm pretty sure I have a post dedicated to it, but I get it okay. As an asexual person who put themselves in situations I was uncomfortable with only because I thought This Is What People Do (masking where lmao) I GET IT! I STILL HATED HOW THAT BAR SCENE WAS HANDLED! I haven't pinpointed why, exactly. I think it's what triggered the scene? She only tried to hook up with a rando because her crush rejected her???? idk. Blegh.
And on top of that. She somehow, falls in love with her slaver??????? but its A Okay because akshully! He thinks this is wrong! He just SO HAPPENS to be one of like five of the immortals who thinks humans are people too.
Oh also. Their big plot to escape the salve camp is exposed because Paige just can't help but kiss Warden :)))) but yeah shes totally ace lmao (i know i know asexuality is a spectrum etc etc if you want good ace and demi rep read Little Thieves).
I said it back in 2019 and I will continue to say it. Take the rephaim away. Focus on the magic and the syndicate. You have a GREAT novel there it's just being overshadowed by the bullshit slave slaver love nonsense.

I’ve always wanted to be the kind of person who keeps a journal so as a birthday gift to myself I bought a really nice one with an embroidered cover off Etsy a couple weeks ago, it came yesterday and I finally sat down to use it today and I’ve discovered that I absolutely love it. I wrote 6 pages (2 of which were about OFMD lmao) and I feel great
#it’s very centering#idk I had a little princess diary when I was like 7 and I’ve cherished the handful of entries I wrote in it since#it’s nice to have a record of how it was to actually be living through a certain time in your life rather than just looking back on it#with the added veneers of hindsight and context#I wish I’d started sooner but yknow best time to plant a fruit tree is seven years ago second best time is today#I was not expecting to write that much though it’s gonna take me way less time than expected to fill this journal apparently#which!! great!! yknow I play a lot of hard games but usually not "took 73 days to beat" hard
#aka gUESS WHO JUST BEAT RAIN WORLD. AFTER TWO AND A HALF MONTHS#rain world#peridots-nonsense#i got into subterranean like a week ago but have been mostly hanging around by the worm grass shelter for 20 cycles#i went to every region (even if i only spent a couple minutes total in drainage lol). met every echo besides the farm arrays one.#got every passage achievement (every one besides dragon slayer/wanderer in outskirts and industrial within my first few weeks of playing)#and never used a passage anyway. three months!!! rounding up a little! for a game that can be beat in less than 20 cycles.#dh was twelve days (though i'd played through part of it years earlier). stray was seven hours. insc was only a couple days.#i've done two separate ultkill playthroughs so not sure which to count but both were less than a week#hk was actually just over a month. may 24 to june 26th. which is still so much less than this. bftes about a month too#i remember how even just a week into rw i felt like i'd been playing it forever...even just a week in i knew it would be one of Those Games#where i wish i could play it over for the first time again. boy was i right. it almost felt like a second life at times#i loved just running around in certain areas building up stores of food and spears and vulture masks#(what comes to mind are / HI_S02 / CC_S05 / SI_S04 / SB_S07. the first two felt like home!)#(* up in the sixth tag i missed the friend. i was relishing in hubristic bloodlust especially in CC so i didn't have much time for taming)#if the tags here seem particularly incoherent i only falsely apologize. i'm just. reminiscing. i don't think i can do anything else#my heart was pounding as soon as i reached the depths. after 325 cycles. 116 hours. two and a half months. it's over.#maybe a little dramatic but hey it took up an invariable portion of my life for a fifth of a year so. it's just interesting#anyway. a standard ''i took too long on this and now the sun's rising'' goodbye to you tag-wanderer

Honestly as much as i love captain seven as a thing simply because She herself is for it, i miss when the trek creators had any stones to speak of and made a new enterprise entirely with new characters. Y’all are worried you’ll get slammed? well the TNG crew got dragged through the mud in media in the 80′s and they ignored the baby noise and got on with it and people en masse love them to the point that the travesty of stp s3 happened.
No stones to speak of. If you want the next enterprise crew, make new people with no connection to the old ones. There is literal proof it works and works well. This entire fiasco is the proof.

The subtitles on the show I’m watching just turned “plastic polyhedrons” into “plastic poly Hadrians” which. What a truly insane group of words.
#I’m picturing a bunch of identical action figures (?) of roman emperor Hadrian (??) in a polycule#night at the museum/toy story style#and I don’t know how to feel about it#honestly the fact that i can watch a talkback show held over zoom with seven people#that are a) speaking my second language (with US accents) b) making incredibly niche and US-specific (dated) references all the time#and c) liberally sprinkled with d&d terms and ALL THAT with less than ideal subtitles#is a sad testament to just how much time i've recently spent listening to these exact people#like yeah the subtitles ARE tripping me up but i can literally turn them off and be fine. which should NOT be the case#but also lbr i've been so culturally colonised that if they were to make German specific references I'd probably be MORE lost#and the language at this point is almost a toss-up#adventuring party#hilarious#hadrian#ancient rome#history

also like speaking of season four giving winston more of that serious arc of an episode's plotline than it ever would again, it's also made funnier by knowing that was Before they had more actor availability and that they Did actually want to have more like oh boy now we can give you material unhindered....and it being like, what, that they treated winston as more of [as much a character as the others] in season four b/c they couldn't give him the screentime for an episode or two per season to really get to go harder than usual on winston as punching bag & sprinkling in more of that generally in addition to [winston exposits info plot devicely] which he also got in season four? but like yeah. yeah i think that was it
#and because what; like; even the side characters it decided were people were given such focus & care in their arcs ever#really abysmal like rian the corresponding Winner quant a) with them from the start like oh rian's important & b) rian's too good too pure#like okay what do they do w/ this Important; Deserving Role? plot devicery culminating as [rian = a vagina] for a less than pointless arc#even amidst the like main-er characters Tier like taylor is important & in getting to contrast with everyone else in that tier#has this flexibility & capacity to that character & they decide oh yeah taylor cares about ethics sometimes so this role also ought to#just get plenty of material & with more complexity than any that e.g. axe can be particularly tied up in. And Yet#instead of flourishing like okay season four this rules but billions is like No More Of That just like w/kompenso quant haunt scenes#season seven like Everything thrown into a ditch in service of wendy your new god as was always that Complex(tm) Good(tm) role's destiny#& certainly taylor in particular is too; all the more egregious when obviously this role Ought to be the center of this finale#so like yeah. billions was like oh yay finally we can have more elaborate power trip fantasies of abusing winston. like truly#winston billions#sorry to all of us like lord....#two sides same coin riawin unbeknownst to billions w/plots hinging on what billions decided their junk must be like? standing ovation#one of those plots with victim blaming & that's basically it. & the second with uh let's see....victim blaming & that's it. second ovation#both roles getting to go nowhere & discarded for no especial reason other than [no one is relevant in wendy's god ascension arc] wow#ascending is right; above & beyond....

it's funny how wildly vampire media varies on how much blood drinking is lethal. for some vamps, if they get lost in the sauce for even just seven seconds then you are a total goner, absolutely deadzo. for others, they can have a multi minute sloppy slurp sesh with you twice a week for months on end and you only feel a little woozy. the vampire claudia drained her whole boyfriend in less than half a minute but count dracula himself needed like four tries to exsanguinate one teenager with a sleep disorder. one of the many ways in which claudia is superior to dracula.
