actually speaking of my name, dara, its like fun because it is just 2 very simple syllables so its in all kinds of languages all across the world as a name and as a word. and like. okay usually it means something super nice like super wise or like a gift or like a leader or awesome tree or awesome pearl or rich or fortunate or whatever, stuff like that. so lemme tell you how awesome it was when i found out in some dialects of japanese it means idiot <3
#also the reduplicated form daradara as like. wasting time <3 <3 that ones really funny because i speak kind of slowly when im thinking#such as in japanese class... i do feel like a cartoon character. like one of snow whites dwarves. im Slowly. im Idly.#its so funny i love it. its a great contrast compared to a buddy who was telling me about how in her language my name was like#literally meant wise person but had like connotations of respect and propheticism etc. such a vast two syllables this is#i dont actually know which version i was named. my parents just looked in like a baby naming book or on an early website#and just like picked one that sounded nice. i dont even think they looked at origin or meaning#im PROBABLY named like the hebrew version or maybe a unisex form of the irish version?#but i dont know if that matters when ur parents just like basically randomized ur name <3 i dont pronounce it very nicely tho#i and my family pronounce it like daaaaar (rhymes with car) Rah which is chill and i like it BUT#sometimes i meet someone who's first language is like arabic or serbian or something and they pronunce it so beautifully#with like a softer R and like dah-rah and its soooo nice. but my heavily ontarian daaaaaarrr-rah is fine too <3

somethign that pisses me off about every video talking about a serbian film i've seen is that even those who bring up the intro do NOT bring up just how good of a father Milos is and how well he handles the situation of a child discovering sex while still too young. Like it really hammers home how Milos is just A Good Guy(tm).
#luly talks#he loves his family :)#a serbian film#i cant quote it bc i dont remmeber it its been like a year or two since i watched it but like.#usually you'd expect parents to try HIDE the concept of sex from children even getting MAD but he (AND HIS WIFE!! her too)#just deal w it like adults being like ah those were daddy's friends dont worry :)#like theyr'e just very open and responsible parents yknow.

#having to be the adult when talking to your parents really fucking sucks#i feel like i am insulting them by not speaking openly and accepting that i can't#i hate having to apologize for every little thing that i do or say while their mistakes are expected to be ignored and forgotten#and they never apologize for shit#iit also feels incredibly isolating having to pretend like everything is fine in front of other family members#bc in my experience in serbian culture you are not allowed to question anything that your parents do#and you are betraying them by disagreeing with them on virtually anything#respect is more important than honesty#and i hate it bc when i play that game i feel like i am bullshitting them#which i can't imagine wanting to do to a grown adult#much less a loved one#personal

if theres one thing this move has done to me it has made me addicted to throwing shit out
#literally threw out sm cheap jewelry that i accumulated throughout middle and high school#plus my phase in early undergrad where i was obsessed with buying random necklaces and bracelets from street stalls#like dont get me wrong im keeping a few cool things but i dont need like 13 pairs of nondescript stud earrings from H&M 😭#i do kind of consider myself a jewelry collector bc my mom passed down a lot of cool pieces she got in 1990s beograd#and a family friend left me a lot of her jewelry when she passed#and ive gotten some cool things on etsy#+ my relatives have given me a lot of beautiful serbian filigree#so i don’t mind having slightly more jewelry than im going to realistically get a lot of wear out of#but it was getting out of control and my collection was getting bloated with dumb stuff i bought kind of mindlessly#also by ‘’throwing out’’ i mostly mean im gonna try to see if any thrift shops in the area want the stuff thats still in good condition lol

This latter was a handsome young man with fine features. He could be mistaken for a Caucasian highlander, and in his general appearance he came closest to such a type. Insanely brave, he had been twice severely wounded and lived in Niš for treatment. He was burdened with idleness, but they did not want to give him command of even a battalion, because they feared that he would ruin it and himself. Prince Alexander was the exact opposite of his brother. He was not as handsome as George, marred by his spectacles and slouching shoulders. He was as secretive and reserved as George was impetuous. Events came to pass in such a way that the Prince soon found himself in a position of responsibility. He became heir by unnatural means. The example of his brother was always before his eyes. He early began to be self-aware and developed self-constraint and concealment.

Princess Elena Petrovna, nee of Serbia, as a nurse.
I don't read much German, but they have mistakenly called her a Grand Duchess rather than a princess. This was a fairly common mistake with junior members of the family; it seemed many people just assumed all the royals were grand dukes or duchesses. In their defense, the 'prince/ss of the blood' distinction was still fairly new.
