【Ayane Yamazakiの新曲『土星とユニコーン』について/About Ayane Yamazaki's new song "Saturn and the Unicorn".】

スペインのオルタナティブ・メディアが選ぶベストアルバムの第４位に選ばれた日本のインディー・アーティスト Ayane Yamazakiが、2月24日に全世界配信リリースされるシングル『土星とユニコーン』により、新しいフェーズに入った。

2022年から2023年にかけて、戦争は激化、コロナも第８波に入り、日本でもかつてないほどの大きな事件が次々起こり、人の心も変化を余儀なくされた。そんな中、Ayane Yamazakiはこの曲を作り、ここではないどこかではなく、自分のいる街から、いま日々、感じていることを作品にして、世界中の自分と同じような若い世代へ向けて発信することを決意した。

イギリス ロンドンのラジオ局から放送されている自身のラジオ番組で、この曲ができた経緯について、次のように語っている。

「土星というのはいろんな天体の中でも厳しい、ストイックな星で、試練やコンプレックスだったりをつかさどっている星なんです。歌詞の中に『ここではないどこか なんてもう言わないよ』という一行があるのですが、これまでは”ここではない どこかへ"という一種の逃避であり、ファンタジーが自分を支えていました。しかし、占星術でいう土星が自分の水瓶座に入った頃から、世の中がシビアな現実になり、いろいろなことが明るみに出てきて、”ここじゃないどこかなんて言ってられない”という気づきが私にも起こりました。それによって、現実とファンタジー、生命力と悟りを開いていくようなこと、どちらもを行き来していく自分なりのバランス感覚を見つけることができて、この曲ができました。」(Ayane Yamazaki)

「これまではアンビエンスが入ったドリーミーなポップスでミドル・テンポな曲が多かったのですが、『土星とユニコーン』はその感じを残しつつも、踊れそうな曲です。サウンドと歌と歌詞は、それまで自分が積み重ねてきたものが、ちょうどキラッと光るところまで磨けたという達成感を感じています。“これまで”と“これから”が、この曲から変わっていったねと聴いている人もわかるような曲になっています。」(Ayane Yamazaki)

Japanese indie artist Ayane Yamazaki, voted the fourth best album by the Spanish alternative media, has entered a new phase with her single "Saturn and Unicorn," which will be released for worldwide distribution on February 24.

From 2022 to 2023, war raged, the Covid-19 entered its 8th wave, and a series of unprecedented events occurred in Japan, forcing people to change their minds. Against this backdrop, Ayane Yamazaki decided to write this song and express what she feels every day, not from somewhere else, but from her own city, to the young generation like herself around the world.

Ayane Yamazaki talks about how this song came to be on her radio program broadcast from a radio station in London, UK, as follows.

“Saturn is one of the most severe and stoic of all celestial bodies, and is the planet that is in charge of trials and complexes.

There is a line in the lyrics that reads, "I never say I want to go somewhere that's not here." Until now, "somewhere else than here" has been a kind of escape, a fantasy to sustain oneself.

But then astrological Saturn entered my Aquarius, the world became a serious reality, many things came to light, and I realized that it was no time to say, "I want to go somewhere other than here."

With that, I found my own sense of balance that allows me to go back and forth between reality and fantasy, the power of life and enlightenment, and this song was born."

"Up until now, I've been playing mostly mid-tempo dreamy pop songs with a floating feel, but 'Saturn and Unicorn' retains that vibe, but is more danceable.

I feel a sense of accomplishment that we were able to take what we had accumulated up to that point in terms of sound, vocals, and lyrics, and refine them to the point where they shine.

Hmmhmm guess who is getting a new spinal cord stimulator trial near the end of the month? (If insurance can approve it on time.)

I am soooo anxious. But I am excited at the prospect of a SCS that works better and is a smaller implant, because it should be less uncomfortable to rest against (since it is in my lower back).

They will be able to put the leads in for the trial while I still have my current SCS implant in, which is wild to me. I will have to turn off my implant for a week before the procedure and then while I have the trial SCS implant connected to my spine for the few days. Fun and weird. I have made several jokes about being Frankenstein's monster for Halloween. Lmao.

Have you heard of queer country singer Orville Peck? His been releasing songs since 2019, but since I don’t listen to country music I’d never heard of him… until today when I came across some nude photos of him. They weren’t selfies leaked by a former boyfriend, but rather campy nudes inspired by vintage physique photos.

His style is a kind of country pop. One of his gimmick has been to wear a leather mask over his eyes. He also had fringe covering the lower part of his face. But over time the fringe got shorter and now he just has the eye mask.

Peck is originally from South Africa but is currently based in Canada and the US. He performed under his real name Daniel Pitout with a punk band called Nü Sensae. Fans eventually figured out Pitout and Peck were the same person due to his tattoos.

Digging further, I learned he’ll soon be releasing an album of duets with music stars such as Kylie Minogue and Elton John. But the most interesting song is a duet with Willie Nelson. "If you could choose to be cis, would you?"

This is a question I have been often asked. The real question, of course, it's obvious.

"Would you choose to be normal or being trans is just a choice? You always talk about how hard is that "disphorya", is that true?"

The answer is not straight or simple, and, most importantly, is not black or white, yes or no.

If for a magic I could transform my body right now and become a boy, I would say instantly "yes". I would pay whatever I need to pay. That's actually what happens when a person transitions.

But if I have the chance to travel back in the past and make my past self AMAB, I don't think I will. Why?

Of course, I'm sad about not having experienced typical boy's activity in my past, but my past, my memories, and everything is part of who I am now. And is taking me so long to learn how to love myself.

I wouldn't be myself, as I am now, if I was cis.

The pain, the shame, the disphorya aren't pleasant feelings, but make me who I am, a person I'm learning to love.

I want to be proud of that time I went over my fear and cut my hair. I want to be proud of my braveness when I stand up for trans rights. I want to celebrate the happiness I felt when I look in the mirror and finally see myself.

Now, thinking good things about myself sound silly. I don't want to be like that. I want to heal, I want to went over my feat, I want pain stop to be my norm.

It wouldn't be like that if I was cis. I wouldn't be like me.

I am trans, I am hurt because I'm trans, because of transphobia, but I'll grow over that pain. And I won't sacrifice that growth just to make a cis person sure about my transness.
