Hey you there! Stop! Are you looking for RP? Do you want to make a new connection? You okay with someone returning to the game after a hiatus?

Hi it me! I’m Val! Pretty much everyone I played with is MIA and my character’s old connections are no more, so I’m looking to make new ones. To justify this, I’ve edited/changed the character a bit and I undoubtedly have a LOT of work to do to get back proper such as making a new carrd, glamours, mods, etc. But I’m working on it and taking it bit by bit! I have other characters and alts, too, that I’m going to be updating/posting about as well.

Here’s a sample of what he looks like now and, if interested, keep reading for a general bio/overview of what I’m looking for!

General Info

Name: Zheval Seltik (Val) Age: 36 Race: Viera Gender: Male (He/Him) Occupation: Mercenary/Bodyguard/Sword for Hire Timezone: CST, but I can make most things work as long as it isn't beyond 2AM CST. RP Style: I can do semi/multi-para and everything in between. I usually change my posting style to match the tempo of the RP. Ideally I'd like to get involved with others that also enjoy writing so I can improve my style and skill. A sample of my writing can be found here, having just recently posted it to get a feel for the character.

OOC: Hello! I've been playing since launch and RPing for far longer--as far back as old school Ayenee RP chats, through WoW (Silver Hand/Moon Guard - WotLK), and many others. I'm returning from a bit of a hiatus and pretty much all of my contacts are gone, so I'm starting over! Character rebuild, catching up in game, and so on. As for what I'm looking for--Zheval's always been a combatant. He can't read/write very well and it's a typical amnesia story to justify starting over. I love exciting RP-conflict, mystery, combat, adventuring, slice of life, mature, dark, etc. I'm happy to also do hangout/slice of life RP and take things a little slower, but I see him getting into tournaments for the thrill of the fight and, hopefully, being hired by an FC or individual as a guard, mercenary, or hired hand of some sort. All that to say I do have a carrd, but it's incredibly out of date. That's going to be resolved soon and is my first priority. The general idea of the character won't change, but obviously some things will be different as he's operating in a bit of a fog. I Am Looking For

In-Game RP -21+ RP partners/friends to RP with in game. I'm okay with Discord, but I'd rather do within the setting/game itself.    

Long-term RP -So the character can naturally grow and evolve. I'm not looking for relationship/ERP for the sake of having one. He has priorities and, if those ever come to completion, then maybe the possibility will open up. But I want things to progress naturally and organically and right now it's not on his radar.

Themes -I'm up for just about anything! Dark, mature, casual, criminal, heroic, adventurous, whatever. I can fit this character into just about anything as-is and welcome it!

Hooks

Bodyguard/Merc - He has previous work as a guard and is currently doing that to make enough coin to live. 

Tournament/Arena - Host a tournament? Know one? He's down. Underground, seedy dives feel right to him for some reason. 

 Ul'dahn Native - Speaking of-does your character often visit Ul'dah/Central Thanalan? Maybe the bridge just near the Grindstone? That's his home when he can't afford a room in the inn! For some reason, it comforts him. 

Amnesia Experience - Does your character have experience with amnesia? Dealing with it themselves? Think they can help him learn who he was? He'd be more than willing to hear their story and form a bond. 

Exploration - So much of the world is a fog to him, and the littlest thing stands to awaken a memory or feel familiar to him. If your character either wants to help him dig through the fog or just an adventurous sort to explore the world, count him in! 

F.C. - Does your character's initials match F.C.? The ring is all he has to go on as to who he was, and any such person is immediately interesting to him. 

Enemies - A member of his past? Want to torment him? I'm all for it! 

Frienemies - A member of his past that used to hate him? Want to start a love/hate relationship where they’re constantly trying to one-up and cause problems for each other? Let’s go!

 Ideas! - I'm up for anything else so long as it isn't much more than lore-bending. There's likely a lot I missed and I'm more than open to new ideas!

The former Steel Kell looks down at the small kell before lowering himself slightly to better fit into the hug he was being offered.

“I have heard of this, yes.” Seltik replies before embracing his fellow Eliksni, adding a gentle pat on the back with one of his upper arms.

Nirou-ki writing and Orthography

The history of the script

The Matonare-ki, the writing system with which Nirou-ki is written has 21 letters or characters, which are typically placed into four groups or classes. These groups are largely an artifact of how the script came into existence as it was adapted and modified from the Kaitian script introduced to Nirou in the late Classic period (circa 1800 BCE) .

The first eleven characters; the Kaitinyra, are relatively direct adaptions from the Kaitian script, retaining at least the ancient Nirouan approximation of their original Kaitian reading. These letters tend to be used in the scripts of many languages in Nirou, even those outside of the Rouan language family that Nirou-ki belongs to.

The next group, the so-called "scribal letters" are derived from pre-existing Kaitian characters, but used very unusual readings of those characters to approximate sounds native to languages in Central Nirou that weren't easy to express in the original Kaitian script. It is now generally accepted that these novel readings were inspired by similar looking characters used in the Nicre-xi script, as Nicrean traders had some contact with parts of peninsular Nirou during the early post-classic (circa 1500 BCE). Additionally, at least in modern Rouan languages (including Nirou-ki) the last three characters of the Kaitinyra, "Ke", "Ta", and "On", are generally accepted to have their modern readings at least partially derived from Nicrean influenced scribal readings. These scribal readings proved essential to actually write in Nirouan languages, instead of writing in Kaitian, and allowed Matonare-ki to develop beyond just being a version of the Kaitian script used to write other languages and into its own as something more suited to writing the native languages of Nirou. This is thought to have occurred no later than 1300 BCE, and after that point the next group of characters gradually appear in the written record of Nirou.

The "altered letters" were created by taking existing Kaitian characters and modifying them in some way, to represent sounds used in Nirouan languages. In the case of "Be" this resulted from a pre-existing scribal digraph being treated as a single letter, while the others are mostly modified characters representing a new sound that were considered similar to the sound made by the original character. Some of these altered letters have in turn developed altered pronunciations from the original use, and the way they are pronounced in Central Nirouan languages, including Nirou-ki, is quite different from the pronunciation in other languages of Nirou such as Saji-ki.

The last group of characters, the "new" letters, have varied origins and only all appear in their modern forms around 600 BCE, during the middle of the Martial Period. "Zii" is directly borrowed from the West-Shardian/Shadjar script, "Je" was created by Saji-ki scribes as an entirely new character and "Che" was originally a variant of "Ke" that began to be treated as its own letter only gradually. What all of these characters have in common is their relatively late introduction into Matonare-ki, by which time it had already split into various forms for each language it was used for in Nirou. Notably, while used in almost all Rouan languages, these characters are not used in the related Touan languages, such as Semur-ki, and historically their usage was avoided even in more formal Rouan texts, as being less proper, although this tendency disappeared after the advent of the Niuri empire and the reforms of Seltik and Taimas.

Orthography

Historically Nirou-ki and other languages written with Matonare-ki, when written linearly could be written either left to right or right to left, and the ability to easily switch between the two was considered essential as both a reader and a writer. Historically much writing in Nirou was done on circular plates cut from the trunks of trees, and the distinction was more counterclockwise vs clockwise directions, with the choice depending on certain characteristics of the treated wood as well as aesthetic preference. But as this medium for writing declined in favor of rectangular paper books, the variance in writing direction also gradually diminished. However, it was not until the advent and widespread use of woodblock printed books beginning in the 800s that Nirou-ki came to be written almost exclusively left to right, which it still is to this day.

Nirou-ki distinguishes word breaks by spaces and dashes, with affixed words typically having much smaller spaces or dashes. Handwritten Nirou-ki uses slashes to denote the beginning and end of sentences, while printed Nirou-ki encloses each sentence in a box.

Each letter in Nirou-ki can represent a variety of different sound values, although most letters typically are only used to either represent a single phoneme or their syllabic letter name (i.e. "ta" is either /t/ or /ta/). Theoretically all of the Kaitinyra have more than one possible phonemic value, but in modern writing only "Nry" and "Mat" have their alternate values used, in addition to the scribal letter "Shi".

With each character having two or three readings, it is necessary to determine which of these is correct both when writing and reading Nirou-ki text. In some cases this can be obviated by the phonological rules of Nirou-ki, but there are also a series of orthographic conventions that eliminate much of the ambiguity. In words written with both syllabic a mark resembling an apostrophe is used to signify a change from syllabic to phonemic pronunciation, or vice-versa. For words that begin with syllabic readings, except at the beginning of sentence they are preceded by a horizontal dash, while those beginning with phonemic readings are only preceded by a space.

For those characters with alternate phonemic readings, the rules somewhat vary. "Mat" can only express its alternate phonemic pronunciation at the end of syllables, whereas it can only express its default pronunciation at the beginning of syllables, and as such there is no need to otherwise distinguish them.

"Nry" is more complex, as both its default and alternate reading can appear the beginning of syllables, instead the alternate reading is typically denoted as if it was a syllabic reading but then followed by a vowel as there are no words in Nirou-ki that include the sequence "/nry/" followed by a vowel, so the "/y/" is ignored.

"Shi" is the most complex letter in its usage, as its alternate and "standard" reading appear both with high frequency. If word initial, its phonemic reading is always "sh", but otherwise it is somewhat difficult to determine except by context. In cases where the reading is ambiguous, a small circular mark might be placed below the character to indicate that it is a being read as the consonant /sh/.

Together these rules and conventions eliminate most of the ambiguity in Nirou-ki writing, and have allowed for a very robust writing system that naturally follows the contours of the Nirou-ki language.

Seltik crouched down when Raifer gave his precious trophy a look, trying to see it from his smaller friend’s perspective.

“I’m glad the Osmium Throne was dismantled by the Sha’ir, but the power vacuum it has left is a nuisance to everyone.” Seltik stood back up when Raifer looked at him again.

He looked down at his body, mainly his legs. “I suppose you can dismantle my legs, that way we can fit them somewhere else and you’ll only need to seat half a Kell.” Seltik followed the mercenary when he decided it was time to leave by walking out.

“My sources tell me she’s fine. Like the rest, she went out to join the House of Dusk when I offered them the chance to leave. There’s speak that the era of Kells is at its end, and I believe it.”

Ever since that fateful night over two years ago, Raifer could always feel that this day was coming sooner or later, one day it was going to happen, one day things would come to change everything he’d known. The point of no return had been crossed long ago and now was time for the consequences of past actions, no matter their intent.

Really the mercenary couldn’t say what to even expect from this, there could’ve been all manner of punishment involved with this... trial. There certainly wouldn’t be any form of fairness to it, of that he was positive about. Whether this could be the end, he wasn’t sure, but he knew he would prefer to at least have someone he could trust at his side in the event that things went south.

“Seltik,” came his voice, though there was no excitement to be found in it at all, “I’ve a bit o’ a favor to ask o’ ye, friend. Honestly, I’d pay ye if I had the cash.” Completely stopping himself for a moment to ponder at his next words, at whatever he might say next. Completely truthful always worked.

A deep huff escapes his sharp toothed maw, “Gotta call from the old man on his throne. Wantin’ to specifically see me, ‘ave a sorta chat. It could be all sorts o’ things, but I don’t expect anythin’ good to come o’ this. If things end up goin’ to shit, ‘n everyone’s slingin’ lead, I’d prefer knowin’ I got somewhere there to trust. Especially if I... well, ya know... die. I’d feel at least somewhat reassured that I might just ‘ave a proper, somewhat respectable burial.” There’s a brief pause a moment, “I can understand if ye don’t wanna though. It’s my own mess anyhow.”

No hate to the last anon but...unless you’ve actually studied and performed immense amounts of research on dialects and linguistics let’s just agree not to correct each other’s pronunciation, yeah? As a person who fluently speaks two languages other than their native, I can vehemently argue that because different dialects exist in different areas, not many words have a singular pronunciation. Historically, it is preferably pronounced “keltic.” Unless you’re referring to the football team.

Maybe they’ve always only heard “celtic” pronounced as “seltik” and never realized it wasn’t the only pronunciation, for a reason or another (like self-learning English, or someone in their family always pronouncing it like that, etc.)!

Sometimes, you find out only years later that something you had always thought as correct was, in fact, absolutely incorrect, or that it was just something used in your family, or that you had always learnt it the wrong way, etc. (Unless it’s just like that in French, because that’s one bitch of a language)

Two of his augmented guards stood beside either side of him, Eliksni raised to be intelligent instruments of war gazed at Aeris with spears ready to puncture her at a moment’s notice.

The Kell of the once great House of Steel looked down at the Guardian that presented herself with a gift. He weighed her words in his mind, and slowly rose from his seat. His guards reached behind him and removed the tubes he wore so that he may walk, but kept their eyes on the Bearer of Light.

“I cannot accept your apology, but I acknowledge the aide and relationship you hold with Sulviks. I accept your gift if you still wish to offer it, but the wound you have created runs deep, for by the killing of my house you killed a part of me as well.”

@house-of-steel Aeris took a breath fixing the cloak she had taken off of Skolas when she defeated him in the prison of elders in fair combat, she had made some modifications to it to make it lighter for her, holding a box in her arms, the box contained a new cloak, not for the shadows but for a certain Kell, the kell whom’s house she had massacred in the past, she felt horrible for it.  She approached the kell and bowed speaking in eliksni “I have come to present an offering to you as an apology for massacring your house in the past. I deeply regret what I have done and offer this cloak I handmade for you in trade for your forgiveness” she kept her head bowed and held out the box, waiting for the elder Eliksni’s response
