hi hello, dropping in to share some tenipuri fun facts i have accumulated over the past few months :D
-junichi suwabe has sung koori no emperor as atobe
-he also sang one of his character songs with kato kazuki (sort of lol)
-you might already be aware of this one, but there are currently 5 tenimyu alumni who voice characters in the anime: hirofumi araki (seigaku 3rd inui) voices zaizen, mamoru miyano (ishida 1st) voices ryoga, hiroki aiba (seigaku 3rd fuji) voices irie, kei hosogai (hyotei B hiyoshi) voices kimijima, and ryosuke kato (rokkaku 1st kisarazu) voices tenjin in shinteni! aiba also played his character in shintenimyu
Aaahh, thank you for sharing all of this!!! Somehow I knew about that Koori no Emperor version but NOT about the other song! That's amazing. :D
I also only knew about Aiba voicing Irie but completely missed everyone else, lol. It's always so fun when different versions of Tenipuri cross into each other!

Hyoteimyu cast (A) as Got2BReal quotes
Shirota: Don't you worry about who I pass the torch to, bitch. you barely have air in your lungs Yanagi: Fanta? I don't drink no damn Fanta. It goes flat too quick Endou: You think i’m beneath you but you're beneath the appropriate note every time you sing. I guess that makes us even. It makes you flat, but it makes us even. Kaji: nothing wrong with pudding if the proof’s in it Zukki: have i ever told you you're my favorite flop? you're flopulous Adachi: what was the concept? she looks like a fish outta water...mid flop. Araki: i hear what you're saying but all i’m really wondering is, are you gonna touch up those roots? i don't get the indecisiveness Kujirai: upload a diploma! Upload a degree! Better yet, upload your Billboard stats! Aiba: Over here we have standards; over there they have struggles... Konii: Shade, heffa! shaaaaade! Shay-EED
Ishibashi: I wanna address the rudity of the situation Toyonaga:  i may be out of school but i haven't forgotten how to read Hotta:  this is the problem I have with younger artists and their fans of today -  calling their favorite ‘queens’, when they're really just.....questionable.
Kazuki: this is about me...and praise that people are giving me. here the air is just (deep inhale) so much sweeter Takumi: I will be reciting a poem today entitled ‘Bitch Better Shut Her Mouth’ Ruito: the difference between Haterade and Gatorade is one fills you up and the other makes you thirsty. Kenta: i will throw your bones. your name is in the programme. Date: bells jingle. i make singles Kawai: you kids need to have a highchair Washi: i want to say congratulations - but you're yet to give me a reason to TAKUYA (oof sorry): Why do you need me 5 days out of 7?!! I hate working and nobody can convince me this shit isn't a scam
Shiozawa: number one; you don’t know me. number two; you don’t know me like THAT KENN: i can give you a hit right now - a multiplatinum black eye Aoki: i’m sure your old nose is in somebody’s business, somewhere Yuki: I see someone went to Home Depot and traded in their old shovel for a new hoe.. Shinoda: you are just so very pretty....and thank God
JURI: I realise now it's not my fault that feelings are fragile... Yuuki: Girl, we looking like marriage equality right now. Wada: This team should be called ABC: ‘A Bitch Can't’. A bitch can't get a hit, a bitch can't get on the charts, a bitch can't get a Grammy... A bitch just can't! Iori: damn. how unlikeable do you have to be for even your spirit-guides to stop fucking with you? Yazaki: sorry I couldn't be there tonight. they had me scheduled to do some things that I would actually enjoy
Mamoru: Guess who back and don't plan on leavin'? Takagi: Haters are people who read with no resume and critique with no credentials. that you?

I love Ryoma and sakuno being friends but I'm not sure how they get there, like Ryoma flat out ignores her most of the time and has to be forced by others to interact with her the rest. I'm just not sure how they go from that to being friends.

Shin Tenimyu - Musical The New Prince of Tennis The First Stage  Report
I saw the stream of the first performance of the The New Prince of Tennis musical awhile back and I wanted to write some of my thoughts. But I didn’t really enjoy the show and as I love tenimyu with all my heart, as it is my favourite show, I find it much harder to be super negative about the show when talking specifically about the show scene by scene. But with the casting news for 4th I thought that I would finish this so anyone who hasn’t seen the show can know my thoughts.
I tried to finish it, I really did. But I have no motivation to really talk in length about this show in a deep dive sort of way. I will keep what I did for the 1st half of the show but after that it will only be kinda a summary of my thoughts.
I have only seen the first night and I do not intend to see anymore of this show. I was incredibly disappointed and didn’t not make me want to see the show again or really any of the shin tenimyu shows but I will still watch those as a bad first show doesn’t mean all of them will be bad but I don’t think shin tenimyu will ever really be my thing.
I will say that Tokki, Raima and Maeda-chan are actors I love so I am a little biased towards them
Bare in mind that this was the first performance and while I am not taking that into consideration for my criticisms things could definitely improve before the final show, the one that will be on dvd.
Overall the show was about a 4-6/10 for me. There was only really one scene that brought it to a 6 and without it it would be a 4.
Music: 2/10.
Direction: 1.5/10.
Acting: 6/10
Spoilers under the cut
Actors
Imamaki Hikaru - Echizen Ryouma: All round a solid 6/10. He was cute and delivered his lines very well but still has far to go with his singing and the design on his hair really sticking out from the sides of his hat made him seem much younger which I was not a fan of. This was a problem I had with early Nichika of them making Echizen seem too young and innocent. Like of course he is 13 and is a child but he isn’t this cute adorable boy. He can be cocky and he isn’t all innocent so I hope they don’t keep making the Echizen’s appear super young in this way.
Yamada Kento - Tezuka Kunimitsu: 8/10. I don’t think I really have any issues with his Tezuka at all. He had a very good voice, really good acting.
Houjuyama Shun - Momoshiro Takeshi: 6/10. He has a really good voice for Momo when speaking but his singing leaves a lot to be desired. He didn’t really do very much in the show so I can’t rate him higher than a 6 as I don’t remember very much that he did bar the Oni match.
Gaku - Tachibana Kippei: 7/10. Similarly to Shun I don’t really remember him but his singing was quite good so this is where he landed
Takahashi Ryouya - Atobe Keigo: I’m sorry 1/10. He is an excellent singer and performer but there was nothing about his performance that made me think of Atobe. His voice was quite high, he was not very confident (Blending into the background when it wasn’t his match), saying his lines softly, moving softly. If I couldn’t see the wig I would not have known he was Atobe. I really hope that he can gain some confidence to play Atobe or else I think he was the wrong actor for the role.
Maeda Ryuutarou - Kirihara Akaya/Hiramatsu Raima - Tooyama Kintarou: 10/10. I put these two here together because what I want to say is the same for both. You could absolutely tell they had been in the show before. The two brought confidence not many others had to their roles. They controlled their stage and as soon as they stepped onto it they were their characters. Every movement and every line was exactly like the character. I am so happy that they are continuing in tenimyu and hope that they will help the cast get to their level by the end of this run or maybe in future shows.
Takemoto Yusuke - Shiraishi Kuranosuke: 9/10. By far my favourite of the new cast members. I know a lot of people were apprehensive that he might play Shiraishi as sexy too much but he didn’t at all. He was excellent. The only reason that he isn’t a five is there are still some tiny things he could polish but once those are polished he will be perfect.
Matsushima Hiroki - Chitose Senri: 7/10. Ngl I keep forgetting that he was in this show. His doubles with Tachibana was quite forgetful and he didn’t have any major moments but was also quite good and not many problems in his performance.
Shintani David - Lilident Krauser: 10/10. Like Maeda-chan and Raima you could tell that he had been in the show before, albeit much less than they had. For anyone who doesn’t know, he was an understudy and doubled as the part of Lilident in vs Rikkai Nationals. Very solid performance
(Warning I know much less about the high schoolers so this will be more on their acting in general rather than whether they were good as that character)
Ono Kento - Tokugawa Kazuya: ?/10. He was barely in the show and I have no idea how I could rate his performance. Pretty solid.
Okamoto Yuuki - Oni Juujirou: 8/10. Solid performance. Good enough singing for the role.
Aiba Hiroki - Irie Kanata: He wasn’t in the show so I can’t write a judgement of his performance
Yasue Kazuaki - Irie Kanata: 9/10. He was so excellent. Singing, acting, everything was top notch. Similarly to Yusuke he’s only not 10 because he has some small things to polish.
Chanhe (dunno how to spell his name) - Nakagauchi Sotomichi: 6/10. No real comments, pretty solid.
Matsushima Yuunosuke - Yamato Yudai: 6/10. Pretty good, singing okay.
Suzuki Ryouhei - Miyako Shinobu: 6/10. Didn’t have many lines or do very much, pretty overshadowed by Tokki (Will cover him next). What he did do was good, singing could use some improvement.
Tauchi Tokihiro - Matsudaira Chikahiko: 10/10. Absolutely perfect. He brought so much energy and character to his performance that I don’t think any other new actor brought. He owned the stage, even competing with Maeda-chan for my attention when on stage. He had so much presence and would draw your eyes to him. He made everything seem so natural and not acted. Like the continuing actors he became his character on stage rather than acted them out.
Takahashi Shunichi - Suzuki Shun and Tsurimoto Minami - Washio Issa: 6/10. Didn’t do too much, pretty solid performance.
Murakami Kouhei - Kurobe Yukio/Izumi Shuhei - Saito Itaru: 6/10. Pretty standard for a coach. Singing was good.
Kishi Yuuji - Mifune Nyuudou: 10/10. Absolutely amazing. Everything about his performance was perfect. By FAR the best voice in the cast, incredible singing.
Direction and choreography
I am not a director so I cannot be too specific about details but I can say what I liked and didn’t. (Every comment is specifically about the direction not singing or acting). I have studied theatre though so I do have some insight from that angle Also, please don’t criticise what I classified as the same scene and what as different.
Scene 1: Echizen in America, 1st song
Good beginning, very solid for a first show opening.
Scene 2: High schoolers practicing while middle schoolers arrive, coach song
Felt very reminiscent of the vs Fudomine shows where Echizen first arrives at Seigaku, I really liked this.
Scene 3: Middle schoolers and high schoolers collecting dropped balls, middle schooler song
Was not a fan. I didn’t like how close everyone was but also randomly placed. I know it is inevitable with such a small cast of middle schoolers but I would have liked to see them more with their teammates in little clusters and slowly appear in front of Seigaku. Maybe even projecting images of other middle schoolers getting balls if none are to appear.
I did like how Echizen arrives out of the back at the end though
Scene 4: Oni vs Momoshiro, Oni solo, Momo solo
Done pretty well, will talk in other section about stage design. Both actors were solid in their tennis, no missed moves that I saw. Built up Oni’s power well, showing him as a strong player. Showed Momo’s desperation well in the blocking.
Was not a fan of only having unknown high schoolers watching on. Makes sense in an anime or manga that has time to build up and unlimited cast but this show only has three hours to build up characters that may never return or become more important later. They did not need lines but would have been interesting to see them watching the match
Scene 5: Saito and Kurobe
Pretty simple scene, just the two talking. Pretty gay.
Scene 6: Saito talking to the middle schoolers about elimination matches, Saito solo
I think the middle schoolers could do with being less clumped up around him as it makes the cast of characters seem small and does not give an indication of scale. Liked the stillness of the middle and high schoolers during his song.
Scene 7: Echizen and Kinchan meet Tokugawa and Oni, Echizen vs Tokugawa, Echizen and Tokugawa duet
I really love the way Oni and Tokugawa are tall and imposing and unmoving or slow moving on the outside of the stage where as Echizen and Kinchan are being active in the middle, shows contrast between the characters well.
I really like there not being a net here reinforcing that Kinchan and Echizen just run off and do their own thing with no regard for officiality.
Did not like the two random ensemble cast members appearing to watch and commentate, felt very weird and slightly meta.
Scene 8: Elimination matches
I have EXTREMELY mixed feelings here. On the one hand I think the direction is excellent with the spotlight, the figures who lose falling and the single lines echoing. On the other hand, I hate that they didn’t have many of the matches and skipped over them completely, especially the lack of cast members (which I will touch on later). If they do the elimination matches in another show and this was building up to it then I take back my negative comments and I’ll be very happy about that. But if not I think this was not enough to cover them, especially since so many were missed out
Scene 9: Kinchan vs Oni, Kinchan and Oni duet
I really love this scene. A lot of, again, slow movements from Oni contrasting the never still form of Kinchan. Probably my favourite choreography from the show with Kinchan darting back under Oni’s legs. Doubles to show Oni’s maturity vs Kinchan’s childishness as well as showing Oni not taking Kinchan too seriously and letting him just run around aimlessly before he beats him.
Scene 10: Irie and Chitose talking
No real comments, they just stood and talked.
Scene 11: Saito takes Kinchan and Echizen to the mountain
Liked them lying on the floor together, part of a series of things linking Kinchan and Echizen together. It was a bit weird seeing Tokugawa just watching them lie on the floor and catching their breath before giving them a message and leaving. Liked Saito picking them up by their collars, gives the impression that he doesn’t care that they are children. Which he doesn’t. Scene of climbing suffers from lack of actors as this could be a good place to add in comedy, which the show is lacking, but since they only have Momo, Echizen and Kinchan, none is created.
Scene 12: Mifune solo (ft. Echizen and Kinchan )
Loved how he is sat in the beginning, instantly shows his character. Along with his heavy slow movements and slightly hunched back. Liked it showing the middle schoolers climbing in the background, showing that he is not caring about their effort or wellbeing in getting to him. Liked the breaks to show Echizen and Kinchan and the complete shift in tone, will talk more about later in song, but also in lighting and speed of movement.
Scene 13: Middle schoolers arrive at the camp, hs vs ms outside match
Love the distance between the high schoolers, creating a sense of scale. Despite looking down usually being a sign of strength from the person standing you got a sense of Mifune’s power as they are all looking down on him sipping his sake.
Loved the lighting for the high schoolers vs middle schoolers match. Fluid movements of the hs vs the random movements of the middle schoolers.
Scene 14: Training back at the main camp, ms getting their place on court 5
Really liked the running on a off stage but would have liked to see characters return to stage and run off again like a consistant training menu and would have liked to see the words detailing their training be on the screen for a tad longer.
Liked the short matches between the ms and hs but would have liked to see the hs look a bit more helpless in their movements.
Scene 15: Coaches talking, court 5 and 3 meet, Irie and Tokugawa chat
Coaches talking is pretty standard
Liked the ms entering from different sides vs court 3 entering from the same side. Gives the impression that court 3 is a team whereas 5 is a lot of good individual players thrown together.
Chat again, pretty standard
Scene 16: Oni talking to his court, court 5 song
I like them being spread out. Like them walking around at the beginning of the song with only Oni spotlighted to show he is bringing them together.
Scene 17: Yamato and Tezuka talk
Like the distance between them, showing how far apart they had grown due to time and also in personality, contrasted later during their duet.
Scene 18: Lining up, Nakagauchi vs Liladent
Liked contrast between Oni being just behind court 5 whereas Tokugawa is behind the bench (?). Of course court 3 isn’t Tokugawa’s court but it reminded me of Oni actively helping his court vs Tokugawa sending Echizen away to improve.
Pretty standard tenimyu match with no songs. Liked the show of Nakagauchi’s power by showing him being thrown into a fence, like Taka-san one of the strongest middle schoolers was in Shiten, but being unaffected by this. Of course I know it was done in the original so they also had to do it but I like how the direction is similar in both cases.
Scene 19: Shiraishi and Akaya vs Miyako and Matsudaira
BEST SCENE OF THE SHOW. If every scene was like this one the show would be 10/10. Without this scene the show would be a 4/10 or perhaps lower.
Miyako and Matsudaira’s song was great.
Shiraishi’s solo was so good.
Shiraishi and Akaya’s duet is by far and away the best song in the show. The only song that really felt like ‘tenimyu’ and reminded me of what I loved about tenimyu.
Scene 20: Camp training, Mifune sends Echizen/Kinchan/Momo to get Sake, Mifune solo
Pretty solid, suffering from a lack of actors and it felt a bit flat. Mifune’s singing was amazing again, though I think he did slightly get too many songs bc Mifune isn’t as important to the plot as the musical seems to make out, as far as I’m aware.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, that’s the first half.
IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ SOMETHING VERY NEGATIVE AND HARSH, PLEASE STOP HERE.
This show might be one of my least favourite 2.5d shows I have ever seen. The dancing was okay, the singing wasn’t great, the show did not feel well thoughtout and it was just so disappointing. So, many of the actors were rather underwhelming and despite so much going on the show felt boring.
I may have not read the shintenipuri manga but I have seen the anime and it is really funny. This show was barely funny, so many jokes were cut out seemingly for no reason other than the characters who made the jokes not being there. But I do not understand why there weren’t there. I get they couldn’t have every shintenipuri character there but there are quite a few I think they could have added that would have brought a lot, not just to fill the numbers as the stage did feel quite empty quite a few times. Sanada, for example, would have been a very good addition to the cast he speaks to a few of the people there, he rallies the middle schoolers going up the mountain and they already use him quite a bit through voice recording so I do not see why they couldn’t actually cast him.
The show was just lacking the heart that normal tenimyu has. Every tenimyu show before this, even the ones I haven’t enjoyed as much like Remarkable Match Fudomine or Seigaku vs Shitenhoji 2nd season, made me want to watch them again. They still drew me in and got me invested in the characters, partly because of excellent chemistry between the actors. Honestly, so few of these actors had good chemistry with one another. Raima and Maeda-chan quite honestly felt good with everyone. Tokki and Ryouhei were good as Miyako and Matsudaira, Kento and Yuunosuke weren’t bad as Yamato and Tezuka and Ryoya and Kazu were pretty okay. I didn’t feel a connection between almost anyone else. I don’t know if this was the actors not feeling comfortable with each other or the fast pace of the show that left no time for actors to develop in character chemistry but I am leaning towards the 2nd as the backstage photos would suggest they got on well.
This show felt like tenimyu’s attempt to make a Toho show. And it did not work. The show took itself way too seriously instead of in normal tenimyu where they seem to have a blast and it’s okay to understand that the show is ridiculous. I don’t know if this is at all what they were attempting but with the new attitude and the actors from Toho, especially Mifune’s actor who they gave a lot of solos to, it certainly felt like that to me.
I am not just being negative about shin tenimyu because I wanted tenimyu to stay the same forever. I was very prepared for new things in shin tenimyu but I don’t think the approach of let’s keep virtually nothing from past tenimyu really appealed to me. I honestly did like some of the new stuff they tried but I think they should have kept more things the same and phased stuff out later down the line when people were more onboard with shintenimyu. I.e. not in their first show.
I will talk more about the issues I had with casting in my next post as I will finally talk about the casting of 11th Seigaku and 4th Fudomine.
RANT OVER
Okay, now I’ve gotten a lot of my negative thoughts out of the way.
Thanks for reading this half review, and I’m sorry it took so long. I personally wouldn’t recommened to anyone who is a massive tenimyu fan to check out this show but please don’t just take my word but see what other people think to.
Please continue to support my reviews and leave a like and maybe send me a message so we can chat about stuff.

I gotta admit I find Shiraishi to be a bit of engima I feel like I don’t really know much about him in general or gotten to grasp with his personality so I would love to get some sort of insight on him.
I’m glad you asked! :D  I’m also HXFTGHCFGJTVJ sorry about the length! I hope you enjoy it!
I think most insight into his personality can be gained from the Nationals and from his 40.5 profile. He’s introduced as the one able to control Kintarou with a simple lie of having a poison arm, the man who stands casually at the center of the rowdy Shitenhouji.
Unexpectedly, he’s also the one who kicks off Shitenhouji’s lineup, the first to go up against Fuji. Here, he shuts down Fuji’s play, Fuji’s Disappearing Serve with tennis that is faithful through and through to the basics, all with his little catchphrase ‘Nnh~, ecstasy!’. The kanji for this read ‘climax’, but please take it as Shiraishi’s exclamation of feeling good, haha. But the reality is, that he finds nothing more boring than his playstyle. Yet, he carves out that win for his teammates. Shitenhouji’s motto, ‘the winner takes it all’, also means ‘the loser loses it all,’ after all. So, he resolves to get closer to perfection with every victory. Despite his desires, that is.
Shiraishi is said to be one rank above Fuji in spirit, physique and technique, having eliminated any wasteful habits from his play, and this is the result of years and years of just training and polishing the fundamentals. His plays and returns shut Fuji down so hard, that at match point Fuji finds himself on the floor, blind to everything but his own thoughts, unwilling to get up. (In my opinion, that’s dangerously to Yips). He tells Fuji when he does get up that he can’t win with only passion, which implies that he for himself too values Being Better, in his case by playing his Bible. Shiraishi allows himself only one special shot: the Entaku shot.
In a way, an important part of Shiraishi’s character is defined by him putting his duties first, despite his desires. He only allows himself some indulgences, but when he does indulge he does it . You see, he himself tells us there’s nothing more boring than perfect tennis, but he finds his satisfaction in pushing back the opponent. This is emphasized by him being disappointed by Fuji not being on Tezuka’s level. After all, with his duty to the team, he should be happy with an easy victory, right? But, he isn’t.
When Fuji gets up and chases shot after shot just to not lose, when he plays like crazy, Shiraishi finds himself thinking that if Fuji had played like this it would have been a much better match. Shiraishi craves the challenge, despite his necessity to win. Perhaps somewhere in his heart, despite his duty, he wouldn’t even have minded losing if it meant a tight match.
Despite the desperate situation Shiraishi finds himself in when his shots won’t go over the net anymore, Shiraishi remains frighteningly calm and works to nullify Fuji’s spin with his own. Whereas Fuji, through his inscrutability and untapped potential is the scariest one of Seigaku to fight (Shiraishi had a game plan for Tezuka, after all), for Shitenhouji, despite Chitose’s borderline hax abilities at that point, and despite Kintarou, it’s Shiraishi. Because of his calm perseverance, his methodology, and in the end his adaptability. Although it ends up being his victory, he finds himself frustrated by it.
Interestingly enough, this all ties together with Shiraishi’s eccentric interest as shown in the fanbooks: poisonous plants.  He knows over 200 species of them, his knowledge is said to be university-level, and he even writes a column in Shitenhouji’s news paper with them as centerpoint. His favourite books are plant encyclopaedias, his favourite date spot are the botanical gardens. But, although he lightly suggests that his knowledge could help someone about to eat a poisonous plant (which has never happened), the true reason for his interest... “Because he loves the danger hidden within the beauty of poisonous plants, he can distinguish those from all over the world as an expert.” This fits very well with Shiraishi desiring to face adversity, or more relevantly put, danger.
Another little thing that’s interesting is his favourite food. His favourite music, trance, (which is different from all the other captains in that it’s surprisingly not classical music) is related back to his frighteningly calm side by the fanbook (“The tension during the match is exactly like being in a trance! Calm Shiraishi often has his favourite trance music flowing in his mind. The swirl of reckless and sensational sounds helps him build his focus and lends him power to overcome the adversity he faces.”). His hobbies are playing chess, relating back to his Bible tennis, and health exercises. His fondness for health exercises (including yoga after baths), aside from making Shiraishi a health nut, also relate back to his physical fitness. But his favourite food is cheese risotto, which the fanbook confirms as being... not quite nutritionally valuable. Since he values his health a lot and aims to be perfect, I think this is quite significant! Rather than wanting what’s good for him, his favourite food is something enjoys eating. It’s another one of the small indulgences that goes against what he things is right, but what he knows feels good.
I think my favourite detail about him is that his most wanted item is a full-body-length mirror. It seems like a random thing to want, but it means Shiraishi wants to look at his own shape, reflected in the mirror. The fanbook calls Shiraishi narcissistic for it, and that he watches himself to the point of getting intoxicated. Shiraishi does a great deal of self-reflection, but the interesting thing is that he looks at both the negatives and the positives. He talks about wanting to cut down on useless things, but simultaneously, he has a positive outlook on his own skills without getting arrogant like Atobe. I think this is reflected in his want for a mirror. As such he can reflect on how far he’s gotten and appreciate what he sees!
What’s also of note is that Shiraishi has both a teasing side and a slightly shy side. Unlike the others at Shitenhouji, Shiraishi isn’t actually good at comedy. (this makes him being able to get good grades and have no weak suits despite Shitenhouji’s focus on comedy all the more impressive) According to Koharu, he gets embarrassed. At the same time, he is bad with girls that go out to hit on men (this is actually caused by an incident involving him when he was a 1st years). And yet at the same time, in the pair puri fanbook, he’s mentioned that he likes teasing people, especially those that are hard to tease. Tezuka gets the brunt of this in their interview, to the points of Shiraishi bringing up Miyuki, and Tezuka calmly (‘calmly’) retreating.
To sum it up, Shiraishi takes up the role of reliable captain, playing a style of tennis he finds there’s nothing more boring than just to carve out the first win for his team. Out of his team, he is the one most focussed on solely winning, approaching perfection with every next victory. But, while that’s where his duty and responsibility lie, he enjoys thrill and the danger of being challenged. He’s hardworking, perfecting the basics through hard practice each day. But he finds pleasure in small indulgences, like his favourite food or his Entaku Shot. A lot of these indulgences, unlike his want   are quite materialistic. He reflects on himself, seeing both the sides he could work on and the sides he’s doing well on. When he’s delighted about something, he isn’t afraid to show it. Even with his surprisingly non-arrogant confidence, he has things he gets shy about, but also likes to tease people. There’s many sides to him, even if he just looks only handsome and reliable on first sight, and it’s something I especially love about him!

[Translation] Toshiki Tateishi Livedoor Interview (19/12/19)
I translated the interview that was posted on his birthday!
I also crossposted this to my translation blog on Wordpress.
From a firefighter to the world of entertainment――Looking back at Toshiki Tateishi’s journey to where he is now, on his 26th birthday
Celebrating Toshiki Tateishi who’s approaching his 26th birthday on December 19th with balloons and confetti! “I’m happy because it’s the first time that an article about me is getting released on my birthday!” he said, beaming from ear to ear as he did the photoshoot.
His stage debut was Musical The Prince of Tennis 3rd Season (hereinafter referred to as “Tenimyu”) in 2017. His popularity rose after he took part in Mankai Stage “A3!”, and in only a few years, he quickly became known as a popular young actor.
There is such a term as an Akita Beauty, but Tateishi surely classifies as an “Akita Adonis”.
Looks that you can’t get tired of looking at, skin that has a smooth, silk-like clearness, and an atmosphere that overflows with elegance…… It came as a shock that despite having this level of flawless beauty, he used to be a firefighter before going into the world of showbiz.
In this interview, he talked about the whole story of how he came to aspire to become a firefighter, and the encounters that brought him to reaffirm his feelings for singing.
For my birthday this year, I’d like to get myself an electric bike
ーYou’re turning 26 on December 19th. Congratulations!
Thank you!
ーWe had a birthday-themed photoshoot today, with balloons and even confetti.
I had a lot of fun doing things I couldn’t do as a child (haha)
ーCan you tell us about your past birthday parties?
When I was young, I used to invite my friends from class to my house every year for a birthday party, but when I was in 1st or 2nd grade, my parents gave me a soccer ball. It made me so happy that I kicked it around inside the room, and it ended up landing on top of the cake, which hadn’t even been cut yet (haha)
ーHuh? Didn’t your parents get mad?
It was my birthday, so they couldn’t get mad at me (haha). Though I would say that they’re the type of parents that never really get mad.
ーThat’s such a charming story (haha). December 19th is pretty close to Christmas, isn’t it? Did you ever get only one present for both your birthday and Christmas?
No, they always made it separate. I have sisters who are 5 and 7 years older than me, so as the youngest child, they were very affectionate to me. I guess I was quite spoiled (haha)
ーDo you plan on getting yourself anything for your birthday this year?
I haven’t thought about it. … But now I think I’d like to get an electric bicycle.
It’s because I went to a photoshoot by bike sometime ago, but I kept getting overtaken and it took quite some time to get there, so it was pretty tough (haha). I’ve also had people around me suggest it, saying, “You should definitely buy an electric bike,” so maybe I will buy one.
ーNow that you’re turning 26, you’ve reached the turning point of your 20s. Is there anything you’d like to do before you turn 30?
I’m not much of a planner, so… (haha)
ーHow about things like what you want to do in a job?
Thankfully, right now, I’m able to work both with music in a group and in stageplays, and I’ve just started working in film… Yeah, I would like to expand my horizons more.
Ah, I love eating, so I would love to appear in a variety show or something that involves doing food reviews without having to stop working in music and acting.
ーI want to watch a program that shows more of your personality
Yes, please! Something like “TOshiki Tateishi’s TOwn Walk” sounds like fun! (haha)
Playing the role of Yukimura led me to grow as an actor and as a person
ーYour birthday on December 19th is also the same day as the opening night of Musical The Prince of Tennis 3rd Season Seigaku VS Rikkai The Last Half.
That’s right!
ーYou play the role of Seiichi Yukimura of Rikkai. In a previous Livedoor interview, you talked about asking your manager to let you know if Tenimyu starts taking auditions. What made you want to be in Tenimyu in the first place?
After I quit being a firefighter, I passed an audition and started taking lessons. But, I fell into a slump and shut everything out, and there was a period when I didn’t go to my lessons and instead did nothing but watch movies.
At that time, I thought that watching films and then laughing and crying because of acting is the same as listening to music and then feeling moved. It made me think that I want to be someone like this, I want to try being an actor.
… So, the question is, why did I audition for Tenimyu, huh? (haha)
ーYes. (haha)
I heard that it was a gateway to success for young actors, so I wanted to challenge it.
ーI heard that you were in the swimming club and the baseball club when you were a student, but did you have any experience with tennis?
I didn’t. That’s why I don’t know the rules, and the first time I ever held a racket was in Tenimyu.
But I remember thinking of it this way. It took time to audition, and I got the part through that, so no matter how difficult the training is, I have no choice but to do it! Anyway, instead of thinking that it’s difficult, I desperately, frantically devoted myself to it.
ーGiven that you have a lot of co-stars, did you ever face any troubles occasionally?
I did find myself troubled with personal relationships. We had to make one production with that large number of people, so we were bound to have some conflicts, and now that I think about it, we couldn’t really make it work at first. But as we attended more rehearsals, we overcame our hardships and our bonds were formed.
ーWas there any pressure in debuting with the role of Yukimura?
Of course there was. Rikkai is the champion school, so there was the impatience that I had to meet everyone’s expectations. I came in with no skills or anything at all, so there was still the shyness at having to act. It made me very worried.
ーSpeaking of Yukimura, being the captain of Rikkai makes him the strongest guy among all of Japan middle school tennis.
Yes. Yukimura started out with scenes wherein he was hospitalized instead of tennis scenes, so that part was difficult.
ーHow was it difficult?
I think it’s relatively easier to portray his strong “Child of God” side where he’s reigning at the summit of Rikkai. But when I had to sing in a scene where he was still hospitalized, I found it difficult to portray his frailty while also preserving the inner strength of his spirit.
There’s a part where he sings, “Do your best, I’m praying for you,” to his friends in Rikkai, but I guess I sang it too weakly. The director told me, “Yukimura is originally a physically and mentally strong player, so express his hidden inner strength even through song,” so I had a fairly hard time dealing with that.
ーYou gain a deeper understanding of Yukimura while playing his role, but what do you think makes him attractive?
Like I mentioned, I guess it’s his mental strength as a person. His demeanor is fairly gentle, but I think he’s strong and likes tennis more than everyone else. He also has a ruthless side to him, he hates losing, he never wavers… he’s very cool. I respect who he is on the inside, and I think playing the role of Yukimura led me to grow as an actor and as a person.
I thought it’s amazing to have a job where you save lives
ーI’d like to hear about the time before you entered this world, your firefighter days. Last October, Jun Utahiroba introduced your history in Mezamashi TV’s Ikemen Notebook corner.
A lot of people messaged me to say “I saw you”, and my Twitter follower count increased, haha. It even went trending on Twitter.
ー#Tateishi-kun (#立石くん) and #FirefighterDaysPic (#消防士時代の写真) did go trending on Twitter. I thought it was clever when Utahiroba said, “If he were dripping in sexiness like this, fires would go out on their own.”
He also said things like “Announcing a burning love alert!” haha. I’m very thankful. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Utahiroba again for featuring me in his corner.
ーOkay, I’ll write that down, haha. When you were deciding on your career, you had a hard time choosing between attending university or becoming a firefighter, weren’t you?
When my mom asked me, “Why do you want to go to college? What’s your purpose for going there?”, I couldn’t answer her. So when I thought again about what I wanted to do, I decided that I wanted to aim to become a firefighter.
ーOf all the jobs out there, why firefighting?
There was a fire prevention drill at my elementary school, and the firefighters that came to lead it were cool. Boys at that age do find things they admire at least once. After that, the film “Umizaru” became popular when I was in middle school. The term “lifesaving” left a huge impression on me, and I thought that while it may be difficult, a job that saves lives is really wonderful. I wanted to have something worth doing like that as my profession..
ーYour sense of justice has been very strong since you were young.
Hmm, I wonder. Is it? Haha
ーI heard that the Tokyo Fire and Disaster Management Agency is quite hard to get into. Their acceptance rate is high; did you have to work hard at studying?
I did, haha. They had a written exam and a physical strength exam, but I started studying since first year high school, had tutorials, and I asked my upperclassmen about it.
ーIt must have been hard to build physical strength as well.
Yes. I was already doing sports, so I had a foundation to build on, but I still did a lot of muscle training and running.
I cried in frustration at the words of an old stranger, one night in Kitasenju
ーAfter that, you passed the entrance exam in one take and moved to Tokyo.
I didn’t exactly work immediately after I was employed. I went to a fire fighting school to learn the necessary information and skills, and there I experienced living in a dorm. I was raised with two older sisters and I always went to co-ed schools, so I was overwhelmed when I entered, haha.
ーHaha. They must have been very strict with rules.
There’s a curfew at night and the time when you’re supposed to wake up is also fixed, so it was difficult to live out our lives with all those things decided for us. When we woke up in the morning, we ran and assembled at the oval, and then we had a roll-call. They even had rules on how to fold our mattresses. If you don’t fold it properly, you’ll have to do it over again, so they had very detailed rules like that.
ーWhat left a deep impression on you in your nearly two years of working as a firefighter?
What left the biggest impression was probably the people I met. The instructor and assistant instructor in my class were very compassionate people, and I’m very glad I met them. Above all, I still keep in touch with the assistant instructor. We even went out to drink together around the end of last year, just the two of us.
ーHe’s still concerned about you even until now.
He’s the kind of person who would talk about things straight and to the point, which is something most adults wouldn’t do. I also opened up to him and talked to him about how I wanted to pursue music. …… Ahh, that brings me back, haha. Which reminds me, I was invited by my higher-up who likes music to perform at a small bar in Kitasenju. That assistant instructor also came to watch.
ーWhat did you sing?
A song by my higher-up’s favorite, Yutaka Ozaki. I didn’t know that song too well, but I tried to copy the way Ozaki sings when I sang it. When I did that, an old man who came as a guest told me, “Is that your real voice? You don’t leave an impression at all even if you copy voices like that.”
… Those words pierced through my chest, and after the live, I cried while eating sushi in front of my assistant instructor and my higher-up, haha.
ーYou cried tears of frustration.
I haven’t cried in front of anyone ever since I became an adult…… but it somehow spilled out.
ーIs that the point when your dreams of becoming a singer were brought back to life?
I suppose so. That time was frustrating, but I’m grateful to that old man now, haha.
When anxiety and fear turned into “fun”. I found a turning point in Mankai Stage
ーAfter experiencing your debut at Tenimyu in 2017, you gained a sudden rise in popularity by appearing as Itaru Chigasaki in the 2018 production of Mankai Stage “A3!”. Do you remember the time when you got accepted for your role in Mankai Stage?
I went into Mankai Stage after experiencing two musicals in Tenimyu, but at the time, I was still afraid of standing on stage and felt embarrassed to act, so I was very anxious. On top of that, he’s an extremely popular character, and he’s really attractive, so I didn’t know what to do.
That’s why I consulted my co-actors a lot, like Yamato (Furuya) who plays Citron and Ray Fujita who plays Sakyo Furuichi. I stood on stage carrying all my unease at the start, but around the closing night, I felt like I finally had a grasp on Itaru’s character.
ーReally?
Itaru places distance between his colleagues in the Spring troupe and himself at the beginning, so in our first musical, I deliberately made a wall between the cast and myself.
ーWere you pulled in by your role?
It did have quite an effect at the time. I couldn’t really switch between work and private life, so I could only face them wholly. But now, of course, even if a role like that comes up again, I won’t be pulled in by my role, haha.
ーThere’s a scene in the play where Itaru starts to find theatre fun. Has your own feelings ever overlapped with Itaru’s?
There was. The first performances in Tokyo ended in July, and the Tokyo return shows weren’t until 3 months after, so there was a lot of time in between. I was very frantic at first and it was just a lot, but by the Tokyo return shows, I found it fun.
ーHow did you feel on stage before the Tokyo return shows?
I didn’t know what to do, and I was pretty much just scared. I didn’t get to stand on stage all that much as Yukimura in Tenimyu, so I wasn’t used to the stage yet. I was a lot more nervous as Itaru than as Yukimura, haha. It almost felt like I was making my first stage appearance. From there, the Tokyo return shows passed and I grew accustomed to it little by little.
Apart from that, the Autumn & Winter 2019 performance which ran from January until March was also a turning point for me. Itaru appeared in it to support the Autumn troupe and the Winter troupe, but everyone’s acting made me want to do better too, and I was really impressed.
ーDuring the Osaka run, you also did things like go to Universal Studios Japan with the Winter troupe.
That’s right. We really got along well, and every time we ate during the provincial tour, it was like, the Winter troupe plus me, haha. Ryo Kitamura and Makki (Yoshihiko Aramaki), Kandai Ueda, Ue-chan (Keisuke Ueda), Ryosei Tanaka, would go, “Let’s grab some food,” and invite me. It was a very nice, comfortable place.
ーAnd, you mentioned before that during the the rehearsals for the Spring solo performance in April this year that the words of Director Fumiya Matsuzaki gave you confidence.
Yes. During the break, Director Matsuzaki told me, “The fact that you’re having fun while acting is showing in your performance this time,” and I felt really happy that he went out of his way just to tell me that. That gave me confidence. I really owe Director Matsuzaki a lot as my teacher.
ーDid you welcome the Spring solo performance with that feeling?
It was the best!
There were a lot of scenes where Itaru drags the stage, so I really felt like I had control of the stage, and while that came with a lot of responsibility, it was extremely fun. I felt the sense that I was creating the play along with everyone in the Spring troupe.
ー2019 was the year of development for you, wasn’t it?
I was. But Mankai Stage actually started the year before, even though I feel like it’s been three years, haha. I guess, with that, 2019 was quite a fruitful year.
Toshiki Tateishi takes on the “Would You Rather?” challenge!
ーQuestion 1: If you were to have only one friend for a lifetime, would you rather have... A. A friend who always cancels on you at the last minute B. A friend who always gets jealous easily
Will I ever get to meet my friend even if they always cancel at the last minute?
ーYou will meet them, but they will frequently message to say, “I can’t go today,” even if you’re already at your arranged meeting spot.
Then I guess it’s better to have a jealous friend.
ーHow come?
Isn’t it nice, though? You’re very much loved, haha.
ーThey’ll keep nagging you with questions like, “Who were you with yesterday?”, though.
Isn’t that cute? Haha
If they ask, it would be fine to just answer and say, “I was with ___.” Even if they easily get jealous, I’m sure that if we hang out together, they’ll cheer up about it. Sudden cancellations just ruin plans, so that’s worse, haha.
ーQuestion 2: If you were to get married, would you rather be married to... A. A girl who doesn’t talk at all B. A girl who will talk your ears off for as long as you’re together
There are a lot of things you can’t communicate without talking, so it’s better to be with a girl who talks than a girl who doesn’t. I’d rather not be told something later on like, “The truth is, it was like this, but…”
ーThere are a lot of stories where someone doesn’t want to say something but wants their partner to notice on their own.
True. That’s why I’d be happier if they would just say it.
ーBut if you come home from work all tired, and they’ll keep talking and talking...
Then I’ll make them be quiet. I can’t just let them talk for 24 hours, haha.
ーQuestion 3: If you were to go on an overseas trip, would you rather... A. Be left behind in a jungle B. Be left behind in a desert
Aaaagh… both of those are really scary. There would probably be water and food in the jungle, but there would also be crocodiles and snakes and bears and insects, and there are a lot of dangers. On the other hand, it’s hot in the desert, and there would be nothing to drink, and even in the desert, there would still be snakes and scorpions.
(grimaces) Yikes...
ーIt’s “Would You Rather”, so you’ll have to make do...
For the desert, it also depends on how long it would take for me to get to a town.
ーPerhaps you might find an oasis along the way.
If I’m allowed to wear proper, durable clothes, I’ll go for the desert. Even if I suddenly get attacked by a scorpion hidden in the sand, my clothes will be strong enough to defend me, haha.
ーQuestion 4: If you were to be reborn, would you rather be... A. A guy B. A girl
Huh, I’ve never thought of that before.
ーIs it because you have sisters? So you don’t have any curiosity towards what it’s like to be a girl.
That’s probably it. I’ve had friends who only have brothers tell me, “Must be nice to have sisters,” but I’d tell them, “Not really,” haha.
Ahh, what do I do. I think I’d like to be a dolphin or a bird.
ーThat’s a good answer, haha.
Ah, but I don’t want to see the sea at night; it gets scary. Guess I’d rather turn into a bird after all, haha.
ーQuestion 5: What kind of 2020 would you rather have? A. A calm year where nothing good and nothing bad happens B. A turbulent year where you experience the best and worst moments of your life
I wonder how bad the worst moment could be, haha. I’m sure there are people who prefer to live a safe life with no gains and no losses, but that’s scary. … But, yeah, I guess I’d definitely go for a year with the best and worst moments.
ーYou prefer the turbulent year?
It isn’t time for me to rest yet, I guess. It would be nice to spend my days peacefully someday, but for now, I want to experience a lot of things and grow more. So bring it on, turbulent 2020.

RIKU’S RANDOM FANDOM LIFE
Sometimes I feel like I don’t own that many 2.5D shows on DVD or Blu-Ray, because one quick look at my shelves reveals only two series:
The Prince of Tennis (FIRST SEASON!) aka VERY OLD SHOWS
Touken Ranbu... musical and stage play.
So, how much can it be?
Admittedly, the 1st season of the Prince of Tennis musical series had 22 shows and including the Supporter’s DVDs, that’s good for a pretty large collection. However, I don’t even own half of everything that was released, so...
And both Touken Ranbu franchises are consistently delivering new content, but there can’t be that much, right? It’s been only 4 years since they started.
Out of curiosity I decided to list down everything I own and... I think I should stop feeling like I barely own anything. I discovered my 2.5D Touken Ranbu collection is already twice the size of my 2.5D Prince of Tennis collection! Literally! O.O At least it will be soon. Some discs are still in pre-order and will be released later this year, but... Also, two are currently “lost” in transit. (Hope they’ll be delivered soon.) Anyway, that’s a lot of discs!
(Edit: the “lost” discs made it safely to my home)
Yes, I own a lot. Clearly.

Tenipuri Party: Tezuka Kunimitsu profile translation
TN:
In the absence of an official English version, this translation is intended to help those who can’t read the material in the original language. Please support Tenipuri by getting your own copy of this book - it is worth it! There are various ways of purchasing it even for those not living in or visiting Japan.
The pictures I have included in this post do not show full pages.
On the translation: this time I’m aiming for a more direct, “Japanese-sounding” translation to share the mood of the content more as it is. This will probably cause some sentences to appear weird in English.
On Tezuka’s style of speech: his word choices and sentence structures are mostly polite and serious.
I’m still working on Japanese, so there might be mistakes. Please let me know if you spot any translation errors so I can fix them here!

Scenes
Injuries, seizing the nationals… Tezuka Kunimitsu overcame numerous challenges that waited for him and seized glory. But he is not a man who would be satisfied with that. From now on too, I want to pay attention to the steep path of him who moved over to Germany.
(Quotes on pictures:)
“I will not lose.”
“Saiki kanpatsu no kiwami!?”
“And then Seigaku’s era will begin once again!”
“Now, let’s go without carelessness.”
Indeed, it should perhaps be called a “Tezuka zone”.
“Hyakuren jitoku no kiwami!?”
This boy’s tennis is certainly Ten’imuhou no kiwami!?
“No matter who I will end up fighting… I will win!”

The German representatives’ strained atmosphere connects to rapid development (*1)
Tezuka-senshu (*2) becoming a German representative was a shock. Did you not have worries about this decision?
If I said no, it would be a lie. However, as to what is important for me as someone aiming to become a professional, I judged it to be fighting as a German representative and based my decision on that.
Specifically, the currently important thing for Tezuka-senshu is…?
Most of all, it is actual experience of fighting at a higher level. At the German training centre, I have the fortunate chance to rally with top pros like Volk-senshu. Even in practice, they are always making hypotheses as to which shot they should hit, what kind of a play they should make in any kind of match circumstances when they are standing on the court. Having put myself in such a strained atmosphere, I can truly feel my level of experience rising rapidly.
Any bewilderment at facing your former comrades…?
Whoever will become my opponent will not be a problem. But, at first, I thought I was feeling sorry. However, at the time of fighting Japan in the exhibition match, I came to realise my heart was throbbing about competing against them. But just fighting as sworn friends, it is not to elevate ourselves. Rather, by putting a net in-between and confronting each other, the light can come from a new angle and hasten growth - that is what I believe right now.
Then, what is Tezuka-senshu’s current objective or dream?
Upon seizing the world, to hold up the flag of Germany that showed in me, a foreigner. If the opponent for that match were to be Japan, there would not be higher joy.
In a well-ordered and non-negligent environment, pleasant days go on
Have you already grown accustomed to life in Germany?
Yes. Everything proceeds very systematically, so in that sense, it sometimes feels like it is actually even more pleasant than in Japan.
What things for example are like that?
Everyone is already gathered around 15 minutes before the set meeting time. The notion of ecology is growing, so most customers carry eco bags for their shopping, and the separation of waste is enforced thoroughly. Everything is done logically, and it’s an environment without negligence.
I see. It suits the serious Tezuka-senshu perfectly. Then, how do you spend your days off?
Touring antiquarian bookshops is currently my biggest enjoyment. From Goethe to Ende, I have been able to acquire several original texts that I couldn’t in Japan. Also, when time and money allow, I try to go to classical concerts.
What about the German language?
The German language too is a very systematic and logical language. There are very few exceptions, as long as one memorises the basic grammar and idioms, it is quite effective to use. Of course I still lack study, and there are many points where I lack experience, but words are not the only means of communication. Rather, sometimes it is facial expressions that speak more eloquently.
Facial expressions…?
Yes. Facial expressions.

Tezuka-buchou-senpai, congratulations. We are protecting Seigaku. (Kaidou)
I’ll win one day, both in popularity and tennis! (Momoshiro)
You’re not planning on ending it at this? I’m waiting for the next opportunity to fight you. (Atobe)
Congratulatioons. But I’ll overcome you soon. (Echizen)
Are you doing well Tezuka? Send something tasty from Germany! (Kikumaru)
This guy is in 4th place!? Gimme a break! You can go higher than that! (Siegfried)
Party talk
Q: Who would you like to inform about this time’s rank and feelings? A: My family. My grandfather too is always supporting me.
Q: You are being served a lot of food. A: Ooishi. I’m grateful, but it’s already enough. I’m eating sufficiently… I tasted Japanese unacha for the first time in a while.
Q: You can also take part in an improvisation skit competition. A: … No, thank you. I was able to enjoy it quite a lot just by watching.
Q: You got excited with Bismarck-san, though... A: … I was merely unilaterally lectured about how to flirt with women.
Q: Who did you come to the venue with today? A: With the German representative senpai. In addition to training, we measured the time and ran to the venue.
Q: Oh? Is there something the matter with Echizen-kun? A: No. I just thought he seems to have gained experience and grown somewhat.

Bedroom of the room I’m staying in in Germany There’s only bare minimums like the bed and desk that were part of the furnishings. But I’m thankful that letters and daily necessities have been delivered from Japan. Overall, I like the things made from wood and seeing the townscape from the window.
TN:
*1 張り詰めた, haritsumeta. Strained, stretched, tense. Not strained in the sense of anxious or having problems. It seems more like everyone is ambitious and focused.
*2 選手, senshu: player, athlete. I chose to leave this as it is since the interviewer uses it all the time as an honorific, and couldn’t figure out a natural expression in English.
*3 連合音楽会, rengou ongaku kai. This seems to be some kind of an annual music event that at least schools participate into.
*4 It seems like a mistake that age 15 is placed at September, not October.

Tenimyu 4th Season - Seigaku 11th and Fudomine casting news and it’s implications and results
Recently the cast for Fudomine and Seigaku 11th was revealed and I had a lot of thoughts about it immediately, a lot negative due to me not enjoying shin tenimyu and being apprehensive about the cast also being in 4th season.
I took some time to clear my head and think things through so I could give a more concise and less emotionally charged overview of my thoughts.
The news: The new Seigaku and Fudomine cast will include mostly new 2.5d actors as well as Echizen, Momo, Tezuka and Tachibana’s actors from the Shin tenimyu musical. Fuji’s actor was also in the show as one of the tenimyu boys, ensemble cast members, but since he did not play Fuji I am not counting him in my thoughts about this.
Please be aware this is all my own conjecture and opinions and you are free to disagree and also the casts of shin tenimyu and 4th might not be mixed more after this point so it may be baseless worrying. I am not going to comment on how much I liked each actor who is staying and whether I’m happy on an individual to individual basis, I am going to focus more on implications and what it could result in.
Overall I am not too happy about the mixing of Shin tenimyu and 4th season.
While I do understand that it would be difficult to have them at the same time due to them having largely the same fanbase and being at the same time would merely restrict the number of fans at the other, it does mean that one show can’t even rehearse while the other one is going on meaning we are going to get much fewer Shintenimyu and 4th season shows seperately, per year, than we did for 3rd, 2nd and even 1st. As it was already hard enough to wait during 3rd season as I was so excited this isn’t fantastic news to me, especially as, based on my thoughts on the first Shintenimyu, I am much more invested one than the other.
It also spoils cast member reveals. I remember being so excited for the reveal of Hyoutei and Rikkai and Shiten and I think it takes something away from the reveal if you know some of the people. I also like casts starting out in the same show so they are able to explore their characters for the first time together and I think, again, the fact that some of these actors have previously played the characters they are going to play in 4th.
This point is definitely baseless and could just be totally off the mark but I do worry about the actors if they are going to be in both. Vs Fudomine Echizen, Momo, Tezuka and Tachibana are very different from Shin tenimyu versions of those characters because of all of their growth so I kinda worry about the actors in that regard. I hope, being actors, they won’t get the characterisation mixed up but I think it is a bit hard of them to have to constantly be portraying different versions of the characters and causing undue confusion.
I do understand that some people I have talked to enjoyed shin tenimyu and I am more than happy for them. I am fine with saying that shin tenimyu isn’t my thing and just letting it be what it is being but I hope that doesn’t flow over into 4th. I personally did not like the way that shin tenimyu was handled and that is fine because it isn’t old tenimyu, it is something new, but I really hope that they don’t change what tenimyu is like. I don’t want to be the grouchy old person hating on change but tenimyu is so important to me and it changed who I was as a person in so many ways and I don’t want to effectively have to ‘break up’ with tenimyu because it became something I didn’t enjoy. I know this is a wholely selfish point but I do know that if 4th approaches tenimyu the way shin tenimyu did, it will cease to be my favourite 2.5D show and that would hurt me a lot.
I hope none of these things end up happening and I am just worried for no reason but I thought it was worth it to get my thoughts out there, especially if anyone wants to discuss about it with me and possibly alleviate me of my worries. haha

Wilting Prince
Finally uploading the fanfic that I was supposed to write on Pillar Pair Week in december and couldnt. This is Pillar Pair, but it wont have much since its more focused more around all Seigaku members helping Ryoma...anyways, Enjoy~
Summary:"After Seigaku won the Nationals, Echizen Ryoma left for US. Now three years later, the former regulars, minus Ryoma, are shocked to find out that Ryoma returned to Japan without informing them, nor joining the tennis club. Why did Echizen return? Why didnt he join the tennis club? When they find out, will the regulars be able to rekindle his love for tennis?"
Category: Prince of Tennis
Characters/Pairings: Echizen Ryoma, Seigaku, Pillar Pair (Not much tho since this will be mostly Family!Seigaku focused)
Rating: K+
"Ryoma is back?"
On the begining of Tezuka's 2nd year of high school Ryuuzaki Sumire, his former coach, called him to convince him that he and the others former Seigaku regulars, minus Echizen (Kawamura included, even if he wasn't playing tennis anymore), could benefit from learning sign language, or at the very least understand it.
When he asked why she only said that it could be useful in the long run and that in her opinion sign language was something that should be taught on schools, besides if they were to use sign language during a match against other schools in doubles it could be a way to communicate without alerting their opponents to what they were doing.
Kind of seeing her point Tezuka agreeded and in the following day he called his former team and they all agreed to meet at Kawamura Sushi.
After being told Oishi, Kikumaru and Kawamura accepted without problems nor further questioning, Inui and Fuji nodded once, the former writing something down on his notebook (probably the probability of using sign language on a conversation) while the later had a toughtful look on his face, meanwhile Momoshiro and Kaido where throwing insults at each other, Momo saying that there was no need to learn a language they would never use anyway and Kaido saying that since it was coach orders they should do it and shut up.
In the end they all accepted and started their lessons with, surprisingly, Ryuuzaki Sumire as their teacher. When asked where she had learned it she only said that it was a useful skill to have, specially for a teacher.
Now, a year later, all of them could, on some level, use sign language. Tezuka, Fuji, Oishi and Inui where capable of understanding and communicating via signs, Eiji and Kawamura understood the language, but had not the same capability of using the hand signs, while Momoshiro and Kaido understood most of the hand signs, and knew only how to do the more basic ones.
(During one of the practice matches Fuji organized last year - in which they played against one of their former opponents on Nationals - against Hyotei, Eiji had the idea of testing their new language skill by communicating the entire time using hand signs. Tezuka had to admit all of the former Hyotei player's face was priceless when, instead of talking, all of them used signs. Momoshiro and Kaido had the time of their life confusing both Gakuto and Hyoshi.)
No one had thought that it would be necessary to use that skill to anything other than communicating on the courts and confusing their opponents, at least not until a year later, on Tezuka, Fuji, Inui, Oishi, Kikumaru and Kawamura's 3rd year and Momoshiro and Kaido's 2nd year on high school.
The first one to see Echizen on school was Kawamura and only three weeks after the beginning of the school year.
Kawamura was in front of the school gates waiting for Fuji, who was going to help him do his math homework, when he saw his former coach aproaching him.
"Ryuusaki-sensei, its rare to see you here" Kawamura said once she was next to him.
"I came to pick up someone" she told him while leaning on the gate.
"Who?" the former player asked and then, realizing how impolite he sounded talking to a teacher, added "If I may ask."
"There is no need to be so polite, I'm no longer your teacher." she informed him with a smile "I came to pick up Ryoma"
That surprised Kawamura, the old woman had said it as if it was someone he knew, and the only Ryoma he knew of was in America not in Japan and certainly not frequenting the same high school as him. Besides if Echizen was there the others would have told him already and they would have had a welcome back party at his father's shop. He either heard wrong or Ryuusaki was talking about a different Ryoma and it was not a very uncommon name.
"Oh, here he is!" His former coach said while waving at someone behind him.
He turned around to see who it was and there, standing in front of him, was none other that Seigaku's former cocky freshman and pillar of support, Echizen Ryoma.
After the initial shock of seeing the boy had passed, a big smile formed on his face "Echizen, I didn't knew you came back! How was it in America?"
Instead of answering however, Echizen only nodded once at him before turning to look expectantly at their coach, Kawamura heard her sigh behind him before a hand was on his shoulder and he turned to see Ryuusaki frowning at the 1st year before she talked to him.
"I'm sorry Kawamura but we have to leave now, I will call Tezuka later."
(Behind Kawamura, Echizen's eyes widened after hearing Tezuka's name and he began shaking his head frantically, however Ryuusaki only gave him a stern glance, and the boy looked at the floor obviously displeased.)
"Sensei, whats going on?" Kawamura asked worriedly, his mind already coming up with possible reasons to why Echizen was acting so strange.
"You don't have to worry to much, Kawamura. See you later" She gave him a reassuring smile and then seeing that Echizen was already leaving, went after him.
Only after Echizen and Ryuusaki had left did Kawamura notice that the freshman didn't seem glad to have met him after 3 years in America.
'Does Echizen not want us to know he is back? Did he even join the tennis club at all? Surely if he had joined the others would have told me, but what reason would he have not to join?'
"Taka-san!"
He was brought back from his thoughts when someone called him, and he turned to see Fuji, Tezuka, Oishi, Inui, Eiji, Momo and Kaido walking towards him. Momo, who was the one that called him, waving cheerfully at him.
They were all in good moods, Kikumaru had an arm over Momo's shoulder and was talking to Oishi, who was smiling at his doubles partner, Kaido and Momo were in one of their fights the former insulting the later for yelling. Fuji and Inui seemed to be talking about the new juice the later was creating, even Tezuka wasn't looking as stern.
Kawamura wondered how they will react to know that Echizen was on Japan, frequenting the same school as them, and none of them had any knowledge of that. And that thought made him question again why didn't Echizen tell anyone that he was back? And why didn't he talk with him not even to greet him?
"Taka-san is something wrong?" Fuji asked and he realized he was frowning at the floor, when he looked he saw Fuji staring at him with his eyes opened, and he knew that he wouldn't get away with not telling. Its not like he was going to hide the fact that Echizen was back from them, they missed him too.
"No, nothing is wrong its just that" he took a deep breath and said "Echizen is back in Japan."
Silence fell on the group as all of them processed the information.
"What?! Ochibi is back?!" Eiji yelled and then started firing questions "When did he came back? why didn't he tell us? was he trying to surprise us? Where is he? How come you know and we don't?"
"Eiji! Calm down! One question at a time" Oishi said as he tried to calm his doubles partner "let Taka-san answer first"
All their gazes became once again fixed on him. He wondered if perhaps he should wait to mention that Echizen has been back at least since they started the school year.
"I saw him a few minutes ago. He left with Ryuusaki-sensei"
Tezuka's eyes narrowed while Fuji and Inui had a thoughtful look on their faces, they had obviously noticed him avoiding the first question.
"Taka-san do you know when he came back?" surprisingly it was Momo who asked, then again he was the closest to Echizen, and possibly the one who missed him the most. Kawamura remembered when the freshman left to America right before the Nationals, it had taken a few days for Momo to go back to his cheerful self. He sighed.
"Echizen has been frequenting our school ever since the term began."
This caused them to, once again, look at him in shock.
"what?" this time the first one to break then silence was Kaido "That brat as been here for so long and didn't even deign himself to tell us? Fsshu, he probably thinks he is too good for us after going to America."
"What the fuck are you saying Mamushi? Echizen isn't like that!" Momo said glaring at his rival, and followed by Eiji who turned to Kawamura.
"That's right! Ochibi isn't like that I'm sure he has and excuse, right Taka-san? What did he say?"
Kawamura hesitated, now that Eiji asked did he notice that Echizen was silent the entire time not speaking a single word not even to greet him, he only gave him a nod when he left. Maybe because they where in a hurry to go someplace.
"Actually, they seemed to be in a hurry so I only talked to Ryuusaki-sensei." Kawamura turned to Tezuka "She said that she would call you later, I think to explain whats going on."
As if on cue Tezuka's phone started to ring and he picked it up.
"Ryuuusaki-sensei, good afternoon." a pause then "Yes, Kawamura told me. He also informed me that you would contact me to explain whats going on." another pause, this time longer "Very well, we will see you tomorrow."
"Ne what did Ryuusaki-sensei say?" Eiji asked once Tezuka (tinha guardado) his phone.
"She told me that we should meet her at Seishun middle school tomorrow afternoon for her to talk to us" he informed them "Since tomorrow we don't have afternoon practice, we will meet here. Momoshiro, Kaido do you have anything you need to do after classes?"
"Buchou, we are still in the first weeks of school!" at Tezuka's stare Momo added sheepishly "Well I do need to finish a essay but its only for next week."
"Tche, you are saying as if you have started it."
"What was that Mamushi!"
"You heard it Momoshiri!"
"Do you wanna fight!"
Oishi hurried to put himself in front of the two, before they could start a fight "Calm down both of you."
"i'm sorry senpai." Momo and Kaido said while still glaring at each other.
"Momo if you need to do that essay maybe you shouldn't go with us, we tell you whats going on later." Fuji said with a smile, clearly teasing him.
"No way senpai! Its not that difficult a essay that needs to be started now!" Momo ignored Kaido's scoff "Besides it's about Echizen, we need to know what is going on and it's more important then homework!"
"I agree with Momo!" Eiji said cheerfully remembering the essay he was supposed to deliver before the end of the week, Fuji seemed to remember as well because he looked at him in amusement.
After that, Tezuka said he needed to be home early so he left along with Oishi and Eiji, Inui and Kaido went to do their extra training (something they do almost every day together ever since winning the Nationals), Momo said he needed to go grocery shopping, and Kawamura and Fuji went to the laters house.
After doing their homework (in the end Fuji helped him on all of his homework) Kawamura asked "Nee Fujiko, what do you think is wrong with Echizen?"
Fuji frowned before answering "I'm not sure, but whatever it is we will find out tomorrow."
