This school of scalloped hammerheads was not a sight we expected to see, but what a sight it was! Experts are actually unsure why scalloped hammerheads school, but some theorize they school this way as juveniles, and continue the behavior into young adulthood!

Scuba Diving, Maldives: With clear blue water, white sand beaches, and great visibility, scuba diving in the Maldives is an unforgettable experience in an idyllic paradise. During a diving trip to the Maldives, you may see manta rays, whale sharks, reef sharks, soft & hard corals and much more. The archipelago is also known for its great assortment of dive resorts. .. The Maldives, officially the Republic of Maldives, and historically known as the Maldive Islands, is a country and archipelagic state in South Asia in the Indian Ocean.聽Wikipedia

This year鈥檚 diving highlight: filming a bowmouth guitarfish (Rhina ancylostoma) in Mozambique! 馃 This critically endangered species, also called the shark ray, is always a joy to encounter. I鈥檝e been fortunate to see it before, but seeing it again and capturing it on video was just as magical.

Sweet dreams!
Sharks often congregate beneath ships, especially at night when the ships are lighting the water. This is because plankton is attracted to the light, which essentially draws the successive links in the food chain! Plankton means fish, fish means sharks. I discovered on this night that I could also catch sight of these guys on the occasion that my porthole dipped below the surface, swimming right next to my head while I sleep 馃槾
