It’s All Happening!
Where to begin? I’ve had a busy few weeks, and whether you’re interested in my books, comics or acting, I reckon I’ve got something for you today.
ESSENTIALS
We’re live! The graphic novel that I co-wrote is taking orders on Kickstarter. Please pop on over there and take a look. You can buy our base-level book known as the Audacious Edition, or choose from a bunch of different covers and tiers.
CHECK IT OUT HERE!
If you’ve already signed up, thank you so much for your support. Hopefully you’ve seen how much hard work, love, and artistry has gone into this project, and we can’t wait to wrap up the campaign and send you the books in the coming months.
BLACK SAILS
Black Sails is now on Netflix in the US! I’d be shocked if there’s anyone on this mailing list who hasn’t watched the show, but this might be the perfect time to convince others to finally take to the seas.
I was lucky enough to be in LA for a bit of a reunion and celebratory screening. It was a glorious night of hugs, laughter, back-slapping and even a few tears (who would have expected Charles Vane to be the first to cry?) We’ve already hit the 6th most watched show on Netflix, so let’s see how high we can climb.

SCRUBLANDS
Scrublands is coming to Sundance Now on May 12th! You can check out the US trailer here!
And at that time, I’ll be heading to Western Australia to begin shooting the follow-up SILVER, based on Chris Hammer’s next book in the Martin Scarsden series.
I loved working on this show and was so happy with the amazing response we got when it aired in Australia, so I can’t wait to get back into Martin’s shoes.
FETCH 4
We’re into edits on the fourth instalment of The Fetch Phillips Archives. I’m really happy with this book so hopefully we’ll have a solid release date to announce soon.
Let’s leave it there for now. I'll have some other things to share soon, including details on Nautilus, Last King of the Cross, and more.
Thanks again for all your support, and have a lovely day wherever you are x

Today is a Newsreader birthday!
We are celebrating the birthday of Mr Robert Taylor, the talented bloke who has brought our Geoff Walters to life.
Hasn’t Geoff challenged us viewers? With both seasons of the show, Geoff’s personal, health and career struggles has been met with increasing levels of empathy and understanding by audiences, and that is credit to Robert’s performance. He invites audiences into the mind of a man whose body and stamina is no longer keeping up with what he wants to do, and has to grapple with a world that is changing at a faster pace than ever before. News cycles never end, and there’s always chaos brewing under the surface, be it at work or at home.
I’ll never forget the heartbreaking desperation Robert brought to the story between Geoff and Kay, and especially that scene in Greed And Fear where Geoff is confronted with the reality that he could lose his little girl. It was incredible throughout S2 seeing Robert evolve Geoff into that true family man, who ultimately ended up putting his family first by the end of the season. What a remarkable character arc.
I have also been very impressed with Robert’s performance in the Stan miniseries Scrublands. Harley Reagan, his character, was a complex bloke; a distant father but trying to be a more active grandfather, whose hold on land ownership in the town came back to haunt him in the final episode, ultimately answering the “why” behind the town’s mass shooting at the church. A brilliant actor, who we have been so fortunate to have on our show.
Happy birthday Robert, from Newsreader fans everywhere! 💖🌟

Scrublands (2023 - )
Follows investigative journalist Martin Scarsden as he has to uncover the truth of the case of killing of five parishioners by a charismatic and dedicated young priest.
An enjoyable Aussie drama and a mystery. It is based on a book (which I haven't read) so I couldn't compare, however, as a series it was short and sweet and very enjoyable. Definitely check it out if you like your mystery dramas set in a moody and isolated town.

Scrublands by Chris Hammer
This month, I’ve been a little hard-pressed for books. My order from the big evil warehouse didn’t come (lost it or damaged it, who knows) so I got some cheap kindles. One of them was Dead Man’s Creek by Chris Hammer and it was amazing. So, I thought I’d go back to the beginning and read his first book – Scrublands – and, thankfully, my local library had it. What’s it about? Martin Scarsden, a…

Little went right after that.
I started with the remaining troopers in pursuit of the blacks who had annoyed us during the night; when we came up with them, they being on top of the range, escaped. We found a large fresh water Lagoon on the table land. The rain was heavy all this day as well as the night previous. The scrubs were so dense that with difficulty the Police forced their way – worn out with fatigue we returned to the rendezvous having walked and waded at least 25 miles.

Scrublands: Season 1 – TV Review
TL;DR – This is a solid mystery that does not outstay its welcome. It hits hard at the start but does lose some energy throughout.   ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3.5 out of 5. Disclosure – I paid for the Stan service that viewed this series.Warning – Contains scenes that may cause distress. Scrublands Review – If there is one setting that Australian literature loves to explore, it is a small town. They…
