Arena Mexico Super Friday Report! 08/31/2018
Marcela/Lluvia/Jarochita vs. Dalys/Reyna Isis/Amapola
Who’s who?
Marcela maskless in white with purple hair, Lluvia in white with mask, and Jarochita is in blue with a mask.
Dalys in white, Reyna Isis in red and Amapola in black.
How’s the match?
Good, I’m sure those of you who read these or are reading them back to back might call me a broken record, but... this is pretty on par for a luchadora match. It’s not bad, but doesn’t really stand out amongst the field. The luchador division could use a title match, but it never feels like anyone is being built up to be a good challenger for Dalys. Kaho is coming back soon and maybe she will prove to be a proper challenge again.
Casas Family(Negro Casas, Felino & Tiger) vs. NGD(Sanson, Cuatrero & Forastero)
Who’s who?
Negro Casas in his plain black briefs, Felino in a black/orange bodysuit & Tiger in a gold singlet with a black shirt on.
NGD are all in black/white.
Forastero has gold trim and bandolier on his tights, Cuatrero has horseshoes and Sanson has a lion on his forehead.
How’s the match?
Great, this match has lots of great moment and the crowd was obviously into the idea. Negro Casas only has so many rivalries left. People have probably been saying that about him for 5 years, but at 58, one has to wonder and worry about just how much time he has left. So whenever a match like this happens where seeds of a rivalry can be planet... people get plenty excited. Add to that the fact NGD are one of the best trios ever and Tiger/Felino relish in working together in a father/son tandem and there is very little to not love/like about this match.
Los Guerreros Laguneros(Ultimo/Gran/Euforia) vs. Klan Kaos(Ciber The Main Man/Scharly Rockstar/The Chris)
Who’s who?
Ultimo maskless, Euforia the biggest in full pants and Euforia also masked a bit shorter and not in full pants. This is normally the way to tell who is who.
Cibernetico similarly is the only guy on his team without full pants, Charley has on facepaint and Zorro of course has no face paint and full pants.
How’s the match?
Good, it’s short... but that might be a good thing? This match is obviously just to build toward the trios title matches both these teams will be having at 85th Anniversary. It’s short and uneventful, but seeing as how all the other Klan Kaos matches in CMLL have been fairly dull it’s nice they didn’t take more time than they needed here.
Barbaro Cavernario vs. Matt Taven
Who’s who?
Barbaro is the caveman and Matt Taven has blonde hair.
How’s the match?
Great, my main complaint about this match has nothing to do with in ring action. That being that if this was a title match for the belt Taven had been holding a little over a month ago... this match would have been even more exciting/hyped. Still the in ring action was aplenty and both guys were reversing each other and having answers for one anothers biggest moves. Even reversing other reversals, so it really felt like both guys were ready for this fight and by extension should be ready for the big tag team main event they are going to be in at 85th Anniversary. While Matt Taven/Barbaro are the less seasoned(in CMLL) of that main event at 85th... both are exciting. If this was a preview of Anniversary, it did a great job of selling that tag match.
Ingobernables(Rush/Naito/Bushi) with Evil, Terrible, Bestia del Ring & La Comandante vs. Volador Jr., La Park & Diamante Azul
Who’s who?
Rush in white, Naito in red/black shorts and Bushi in mask.
Volador Jr. maskless, La Park in red skeleton suit & Azul in blue.
How’s the match?
Very good, it was plenty of fun to see ingobernables run wild in Arena Mexico. This match might be too messy and unorganized for some, but that seems to fit with ingobernables coming out with an army. When 7 people came out for a 3 man team... the writing was on a wall for a crazy brawl. Some people might not dig it and I personally wish we saw more from Naito, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy watching this match. Bushi actually being way more fun than I was expecting him to be here.
No audible called though, so not I’d say all hope of La Park/Rush happening at 85th Anniversary is dead at this point. Unless they are going to pull the trigger next week literally a week before the event happens.

Arena Mexico Super Friday Report! 08/24/2018
Templario, Virus & Kawato San vs. Triton, Esfinge & Audaz
Who’s who?
Templario in silver, Virus in black & Kawato in red.
Triton in white, Esfinge in silver/gold and Audaz in all gold.
How’s the match?
Very good, Templario/Audaz throwing down is always fun as is Triton. Everyone did a great job here for the 2nd match of the night. If I was asked who the best midcard talents in CMLL are it would include Audaz/Templario/Triton with the 1st two being the best talents I can think of to not have a belt yet. I’d love to see Templario/Audaz go far in Incredible pairs a year or few from now.
I don’t want to discount the other 3 guys in this match though, Kawato San has been having a pretty good excursion in CMLL. Hopefully he can get a big singles match or get into a Torneo Cibernetico before 2018 closes out. Virus is a pillar as always and Esfinge and Triton are always a great team. Love seeing them team up on guys in this match.
Titan vs Angel de Oro Lightning Match
Who’s who?
Angel de Oro without mask, Titan with.
How’s the match?
Very good, this isn’t the best lightning match we have gotten lately, but it’s up there. Angel de Oro and Titan are both helped by the fact that they are upper midcard guys who both have something to prove. This isn’t an obvious win for either guy and made the less than 10 minute contest feel like it had purpose for both and wasn’t just a forgone conclusion like sometimes happens when a big name takes on some goober in a Tuesday Night lightning match.
The outcome here makes me wonder if Titan is penciled in to win that title match he has vs Mephisto this coming Tuesday. I would have expected him to win in order to build momentum into that title match. Angel de Oro could use this win, so it’s nice to see him getting it.This feels like his best year as far as exposure goes, thanks in large part to being in a big mask match, but most of the exposure has been in losses. While Titan’s win loss record doesn’t feel so drastically heavy in the loss column.
El Hijo de La Park, Soberano Jr., & Flyer vs. Hechicero, Negro Casas, & Mephisto
Who’s who?
Hijo de La Park in a skull suit like his old man, Soberano in dark blue, Flyer in light blue.
Hechicero has suspenders, Negro Casas in plain black and Mephisto in purple to honor Villano III.
How’s the match?
Fantastic, not sure what it was about this particular trios match... something just seemed to click and we got the best out of all 6 men. Not a wasted moment or movement with plenty of great action and rivalries being moved forward as well. Hijo de La Park tussling with Hechicero while Soberano Jr./Negro Casas also flamed the fires of their already interesting feud. It makes me wonder if on January 1st Negro Casas will again put his hair on the line like he did in 2018 and 2016. If not that even just a title match between the two would be something to behold and has a fairly decent chance of being one of Negro Casas’ last big singles matches before he rides off into the sunset.
La Park, Ultimo Guerrero & Gran Guerrero vs. Klan Kaos(Ciber The Main Man, The Chris & Scharly Rockstar)
Who’s who?
Park in purple, Ultimo/Gran in green/black with Ultimo being without mask.
Ciber is the only rudo without full pants, Scharly has facepain and Chris has full pants and no face paint.
How’s the match?
Good, but like all of the Klan matches... it’s just missing something. It’s not a wild enough brawl for any of them to sore, so this match just doesn’t click. It’s not a good sign that this and the main event are low points of the night when both matches are teasing and featuring the biggest stories for 85th Anniversary. This match is better than my lowest rating thus far of fine. Cause there were potions of this match with fun action and it felt like a full length match and not just a tease of the match they will have at Anniversary.
Ingobernables(Rush & Bestia del Ring) & Barbaro Cavernario vs. Volador Jr., Matt Taven & Caristico
Who’s who?
Rush in gold, Bestia in black and Barbaro in leopard print.
Volador Jr. in blue/lime green, Matt in black and Caristico in white.
How’s the match?
Fine, a dreaded rating and honestly it’s only given this and not something worse because Barbaro Cavernario did his big splash to the outside. Perhaps, pulling that out should be reason to rate it lower? It seems weird to whip that out here... not get the win with it. What wild thing is Barbaro planning for Anniversary, if he is using this now? Is he going to do one off the stage... and is that even something a fan of his really wanted from the caveman? This is too brief to really enjoy and feels like such a light and unexciting tease for the tag match that as of now and unless a drastic change happens in the next two weeks will main event Anniversary. It’s more deflating after seeing Triplemania which for the first time in years was firing on all cylinders.

Arena Mexico Super Friday Report! 06/28/2019
Eléctrico & Oro Jr. vs Inquisidor & Nitro
Who’s who?
Electrico in green & Oro in black/gold.
Inquisitor in red/black & Nitro in black/red/yellow with hair coming out the back of his mask while Inquisitor’s mask in closed off.
How’s the match?
Good, I like Electrico & Oro Jr., but this isn’t better than any of their other recent outings. A pretty standard opener from some pretty standard Friday opening guys. Don’t need to go out of your way to see this.
Avispa Dorada, La Maligna & Lluvia vs Amapola, La Comandante & Tiffany
Who’s who?
Avispa in yellow/black, Maligna in all black & Lluvia in a starry one piece.
Amapola in blue, Comandante/Tiffany both in black with Comandante in cargo pants with rust colored hair.
How’s the match?
Good, again this just doesn’t feel like it does enough to differentiate itself from normal luchadora fare. Has some good action, but I don’t get why Comandante is being so featured lately. Maybe they are building her for a hair vs. hair? That’s all I can really imagine. Love Lluvia’s outfit tonight, she has worn it before and it’s one of the best attires on the roster.
Dulce Gardenia vs Disturbio
Who’s who?
Dulce in silver/purple & Disturbio in black/red.
How’s the match?
Great, this is one of the biggest debuts in recent memory in CMLL. Even established guys like Pentagon/Fenix/ect. don’t have a singles match as an introduction. Dulce Gardenia will become CMLL’s sole exotico and he performed pretty well here. It won’t be for everyone, but for some a hole has been filled that has been vacated since 2017 when Maximo Sexy was fired from CMLL. Lots of fun pride stuff here too. Male dancers! Male dancers! Rainbow flags as well on the trons and the refs shirt. Was a fun section of the show! The match wasn’t brilliant, but as a debut and a pride section of the show? It worked wonderfully.
NGD(Sanson, Cuatrero & Forastero) vs. La Excelencia Tapatia(Titan, Triton & Esfinge)
Who’s who?
NGD bootcode : Sanson in black, Cuatrero in white & Forastero in gold.
Titan in neon yellow mask, Triton in white & Esfinge in silver/gold.
How’s the match?
Great! NGD had 3 matches as a team this weak and each was better than the last. They fight basically the only formal tecnico team in La Excelencia Tapatia. With the win here it’s already been setup that they will challenge for NGD’s Mexican National Trios Titles. If that can’t beat NGD, then an even more fearless team of tecnicos will have to come together. NGD’s last defense was vs. Oro/Roja/Soberano Jr. a few months ago.
Stuka Jr. vs. Mephisto Lightning Match
Who’s who?
Stuka in blue, Mephisto in camo pants.
How’s the match?
Very good, a fun lightning match that let’s both men throw out some of their signature offense. Not as notable as the earlier singles match on the card, which was a debut... or the lightning match on Tuesday between two guys who don’t have a decade plus of singles matches in CMLL under their belt already.
Los Guerreros Laguneros(Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia & Gran Guerrero) vs. The Cl4n(Ciber The Main Man, Scharly Rockstar & The Chris)
Who’s who?
Ultimo maskless, Gran in shorts masked & Euforia in pants masked, all in red.
Cl4n all in black, Ciber in briefs,Scharly in facepaint/bandanna and Chris in full pants all in black.
How’s the match?
Good, but felt just like all the other Cl4n/Guerreros matches in that they aren’t all that interestings. Cl4n really needs to work with other guys. Think they keep getting put with Guerreros so that they can be carried, but it’s just not all that interesting. We were doing this 12 months ago... Cl4n need to work with others. Might be back here to set up Ultimo vs. Ciber hair match, which would be an Anniversary worthy shaving.
Negro Casas, Barbaro Cavernario & Mr. Niebla vs. Volador Jr., Caristico & Valiente
Who’s who?
Casas in plain black, Barbaro in animal print & Mr. Niebla in mask.
Volador Jr. is dressed as a saiyan, Caristico in white & Valiente in red.
How’s the match?
Very good, we get a pretty standard CMLL main event, but when you stuff it full of talent like this... you can’t really go wrong. No dead weight here and we get to see the best wrestler in the planet Barbaro Cavernario do what he does. So while not a MOTYC or anything, it does a find job of closing the show out on a positive note. Has a real finish too, which is nice.

Arena Mexico Super Friday Report! 09/28/2018
Angel de Oro, Niebla Roja & Flyer vs. Mephisto, Ephesto & Templario
Who’s who?
Oro in gold, Roja in red and Flyer in blue.
Mephisto in yellow, Ephesto in black and Templario in silver.
How’s the match?
Very good, Templario’s performance here is really the reason to come to this match. Roja/Oro were both good, but in the way they are normally good. Doing their regular routines. Mephisto/Ephesto really looked to be playing back up too for a match that was mostly about Flyer/Templario. If the ending of this match was better it might have been great, but the ending sorta deflates it and make it feel unimportant, which in the grand scheme of things it isn’t.
Felino vs. Valiente Lightning Match
Who’s who?
Felino maskless and Valiente in red masked.
How’s the match?
Good, this pair is uneven and that becomes apparent as the match was fairly short with Valiente getting the win with ease. I’m not a big fan of these obvious lightning matches as anyone watching will know the winner. Suppose you have to have these types of lightning matches so when an upset happens it means more, but this is probably one of the most tame lightning matches of the last few months in CMLL. The Lightning match text overlay is getting better, so I suppose that’s nice.
Forastero, Negro Casas & Rey Bucanero vs. Mistico, Soberano Jr. & Hijo del La Park
Who’s who?
Forastero only masked rudos, Casas in just black briefs and Bucanero in shirt/pants/bandana/face paint.
How’s the match?
Great, this will likely be the match people go back to as Forastero really getting a moment. It might be in a trios match away from his cousins, but he really got to shine here as his own talent. Tecnicos were all good and Negro Casas had a war with Hijo de La Park. I keep saying Negro Casas has an aura about him and it felt like every tecnico wanted a piece of him here. Bucanero was the most forgettable part of this match, but did good on spots that called for his inclusion. One of the best matches to check out for this week. Fans threw money in the ring at the end and Casas/Hijo had a great moment together.
Volador Jr., Michael Elgin & Caristico vs. Barbaro Cavernario, Sanson & Cuatrero
Who’s who?
Volador Jr. in white bald, Elgin in black bald and Caristico white in mask.
Barbaro maskless, Sanson masked in white pants & Cuatrero in black pants.
How’s the match?
Very Good, I like having Elgin back even if every other fan in the states say he is canceled. I’m not going to defend him outside the ring... or in the ring for this match. I don’t think Elgin did terrible, but it felt underwhelming for a return. I suppose the argument might be that 3-4 tours into CMLL he doesn’t need as big or a reintroduction? Not awful, but Elgin did seem off in working with NGD. Hopefully it’s a bit more crisp at Gran Prix. Volador Jr. returning bald seems like the biggest story here and went off well. He went vs. Barbaro Cavernario here and looked good in doing that, though Volador/Rush and Volador/Matt Taven are still to face off post that Anniversary Main Event.
Cl4n(Ciber The Main Man, Scharly Rockstar & The Chris) vs. Los Guerreros Laguneros(Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero & Euforia)
Who’s who?
Ciber not in full pants, Scharly facepaint full panths, Chris full pants as well.
Ultimo in full pants without mask, Gran not in full pants masks, Euforia in full pants mask all the Guerreros in green/white/black.
How’s the match?
Good, you would think this feud was obviously meant to get Cl4n over as rudos. Has it done that? No, not as far as I can tell. This whole thing feels like a detour for the Guerreros. I hope any further matches aren’t for the belt. I don’t really care for the Cl4n and have no idea where CMLL will go with them after this. My best bet would be something like losing their hairs to Guerreros, but that seems a bit drastic. We’ll see how it goes, Ultimo Guerrero suggested a cagematch, which seems like a decent way to got. With that perhaps Clan could even win to shave Ultimo or just 1 of Cl4n instead of all 3.

Arena Mexico Super Friday Report! 09/18/2018
Star Jr. & Magnus vs. Akuma & Espanto Jr.
Who’s who?
Star Jr. in blue & Magnus in pink
Akuma in red/black and Espanto in black/white.
How’s the match?
Good, I’m a big fan of Star Jr. and think Magnus did well here too. Akuma/Espanto Jr. came out on bikes which was a unique entrance for the opening tag match. Perhaps they will continue to be an informal tag team like Signo/Metalico have become buddy/body in the last few months in the opening tag slot. Apparently this match ended a little early and seemed a little off for the 3rd fall. Still a good opener for Friday night.
Okumura, Kawato San & Virus vs. Fuego, Blue Panther Jr. & Black Panther
Who’s who?
Okumura in orange/white pants, Kawato San in red pants and Virus in black.
Fuego in orange, Black Panther in black and Blue Panther Jr. in blue.
How’s the match?
Very good, I’m a sucker for the Panther Bros tho. I’m certain some fans will also come to this for Fuego and of course the NJPW Young Lion Kawato San with his mentor Okumura and Virus too has his fans for good reason. So plenty of reasons to come to this match and those reasons were all re-enforced by this excellent match. Blue Panther Jr. used a new finisher, didn’t quite get all of it. Looked interesting tossing someone from his shoulders down to a backbreaker? I’ll be interested to see it more going forward or if it’s just a one off.
Stuka Jr., Triton & Esfinge vs. NGD(Sanson/Cuatrero) & Rey Bucanero
Who’s who?
Stuka in blue/black/silver, Triton in white and Esfinge in gold white.
NGS in black/white Cuatrero has horseshoes on his gear and Rey Bucanero is the only maskless guy in this contest.
How’s the match?
Great, a wild ride where both teams pulled out things you’d expect in a great trios/team match. From standard like the fuck all corner spot and a mega suplex to more wild spots later in the contest. This crop of guys stole the night for me and this Super Friday(for the most part) really lived up to the Super name. I don’t want to give away any of the biggest spots, just go watch the match if your curious about why I dug it so much.
Los Guerreros Lagunero(Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero and Euforia) vs. Cl4n(Ciber The Main Man, The Chris & Scharly Rockstar)
Who’s who?
Lagunero in green/black Ultimo maskless, Gran not in full pants and Euforia the biggest guy in the contest.
Ciber not in full pants, both other Cl4n are with Scharly Rockstar in facepaint.
How’s the match?
Very Good, much better than their Anniversary match. Helped by the fact it was fairly brief. Guerreros went over 2 round to 0 in large part to Cl4n throwing the 1st via a kendo stick DQ. Post match Ultimo Guerrero challenged for a belt, so perhaps we’ll get that rematch for the title next week? Not a bad match, I thought it went pretty well even though I’m not all that into this feud really. Cl4n can’t just fight Guerreros forever. I think this feud will likely end with Gilbert joining the Cl4n, but that’s just a guess.
Negro Casas vs Mistico lightning match
Who’s who?
Negro Casas maskless in his black gear and Mistico in all white masked.
How’s the match?
Good, but hampered by a poor ending and some new bad CMLL production. They put Match Relampago on the screen as well as a count up and CMLL logo. Made the camera obscured and was too big in font, I just prefer having it on the titantron, but I wouldn’t be opposed complete to a count up... it didn’t need to be as big as it was. I’m normally fine with CMLL production, but this was done pretty poorly and hampered the match. The finish too was a bit weak and wonky. Not the singles match people thought and hoped it’d be.
Atlantis, Diamante Azul & Fenix vs. Rush, Terrible & Barbaro Cavernario
Who’s who?
Atlantis in his iconic white mask, Azul in a silver mask and Fenix in black/red.
Rush in western boots, Terrible in a matching outfit with some athletic tape on his shoulder and Barbaro in animal print.
How’s the match?
Very good, Rush/Terrible/Barbaro are still riding high after last week when Rush/Barbaro won the 85th Anniversary Main Event. I dug this match as it continued that thread. Still Barbaro hasn’t officially joined los ingobernables and if he hasn’t yet, I don’t think he is going to at all. Which I’m totally behind, ingobernables has been maskless since Mascara lost his at 83rd and I’d really like the next recruit to have a mask he could put on the line. With that scenario seems like Mistico joining to go full rudo in his feud with Caristico would make the most sense, but adding a guy who has less fanfare might be a good choice too. To give a boost to an up and coming talent like Templario. Good match, fun end and it’s nice to see Terrible tearing it up again with Rush after his brief injury hiatus. Really fun Super Friday overall.
