Hey! I just discovered your art and fell in love! I noticed you’ve done a lot of coastal scenery but I couldn’t seem to find where they’re from.
I’m a environmental educator, specializing in coastal areas like salt marshes and beaches, and I love collecting art from the places I’ve lived.
By any chance are any of your pieces from the North Carolina, Chesapeake Bay, or Maine areas? I know it’s probably a bit of a long shot since you work in LA rn but I’d love to buy a print or few if you have any from those locations!
Hi there! Great question, thank you! This reminded me that I actually haven’t posted some of these on tumblr so I’ll put them all in a post here. Most of the water/beach studies I’ve done are from Lake Michigan since I lived in Michigan a long time. But I actually have visited North Carolina and Maine and done a handful of studies there!  These recent sketches were from North Carolina in the Surf City area:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then these ones were also from North Carolina in the Nag’s Head area:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And these were from Maine around Bar Harbor, I think?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I put all these into my Scenic Routes artbook, and the little NC one with the seagull I made into a print recently during my shop opening. The shop is closed at the moment but I’m hoping to open it again sometime in the new year! 💚

July 29 - Great Harbor Bridge
Today was a free day, so I visited the Great Harbor Bridge with a couple fellow students. We were hoping to relate this to our independent excursion project. It was built by the Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) in Port of Kaohsiung's Penglai Wharf, and Taiwan's first swing bridge. The bridge takes about 30 minutes to swing open. It's meant only for pedestrians and connects Pier-2 Art Center, Penglai Warehouse Cluster, and other popular destinations. The design is meant to match with the Kaohsiung Music Center and make visitors feel like they're on a classy ship in the harbor. Since it is 5 steps from our hotel and an easy and scenic destination, I also walked on the bridge at night when it was lit up after dinner with a few other students. It is a nice bridge both at night and during the day, though there are less people during the day.
There are some shops on the other side of the bridge and we found some delicious pizza. Tomato sauce and cheese are rare items here, so I felt lucky to have stumbled across them. It was actually so good and the carbs were probably equally as good for me. Next, we went to the Kaohsiung Harbor Museum. It was a huge space, but I think it was half museum and half catering / business meeting space. They had some banners that seemed informative but was all in Chinese so that will be a Google Translate task. It also had a ton of art of the harbor - I think it was from local schools and they were all from different skill levels.
At this point, it was pretty gloomy, so we walked back to the hotel along the pier. We came across these cool bells too.
For dinner, we wanted to go to this fancy pasta place but it had an hour-long wait, so we ended up at this very American restaurant with everything under the sun. I was very hungry so I got us some chips and salsa, a mushroom and corn quesadilla, and salmon fettuccine pasta. I was not a huge fan of the mushroom and corn quesadilla, but I was very curious so I had to buy it. I don't really like mushrooms either, and they used the mini ones (not sure what they are actually called) so I was doomed to not like it from the start. The salmon fettuccine was actually so good - would 100% eat again.
And that was my day. It was pretty simple but needed.

LENGTH OF TIME IN BLUE HARBOR — Since April 2023.
BIOGRAPHY—
TW: DEATH DUE TO DUI, GRIEF
Rory Anderson, a 37-year-old craftsman with a reserved demeanor and a sharp wit, has recently embarked on a new chapter in life in the quaint town of Blue Harbor, Illinois. Originally hailing from the rugged, scenic landscapes of Scotland, Rory grew up in a small village nestled in the Highlands. His childhood was a blend of adventure and solitude, spent exploring the vast wilderness and learning the art of woodworking from his grandfather. This early exposure to the craft laid the foundation for his lifelong passion for carpentry.
As a young adult, Rory ventured into the bustling city of Edinburgh for his higher education, where he pursued a degree in fine arts — he’d have focused on woodworking, but there weren’t any readily available majors. He wasn’t dissuaded, however, eager to carry on his grandfather’s legacy after his passing, even if it meant taking the longer road to get there.
His college years weren’t wasted, though. It was here that he met Eliza, a vibrant and compassionate woman who shared his love for nature and the arts. Their connection was immediate and profound, blossoming into a deep and enduring love. Eliza had very recently been disowned by her wealthy parents for choosing a life of artistic pursuits over the family's business empire, which only strengthened the bond between her and Rory. After graduation, they lived together in a cozy cottage on the outskirts of Edinburgh, where Rory began his career as a furniture maker. Despite never formally marrying, they considered themselves a family, deeply devoted to each other and their shared dreams.
Their lives were enriched with the arrival of their daughter, Annabel, affectionately known as Annie. Rory and Eliza were devoted parents, and Annie quickly became the light of their lives. Tragically, their happiness was shattered when Eliza passed away unexpectedly two years ago — struck by an intoxicated driver in the city. The loss was a devastating blow to Rory, leaving him grief-stricken and struggling to find a way forward.
The tragedy was compounded when Eliza’s estranged parents, upon learning of her death, suddenly expressed a keen interest in Annie’s well-being. They claimed Rory was unfit to be a single father and financially unstable, seeking custody of Annie. With their vast resources and influence, they posed a significant threat. Rory, determined to protect his daughter from the cold and calculating nature of her grandparents, realized he had to make a drastic change.
In search of a fresh start and a place where he and Annie could heal, Rory chose to relocate to Blue Harbor, a decision influenced by the town's serene environment and close-knit community. He believed that the slower pace and supportive atmosphere of Blue Harbor would provide a nurturing backdrop for Annie's upbringing and help them both find solace. Additionally, the town's relative anonymity could be the perfect needle in a haystack Eliza’s parents would struggle to find.
Since moving to Blue Harbor a year ago, Rory has established himself as a skilled and meticulous freelance carpenter, crafting custom furniture pieces that reflect his artistic vision and dedication to quality. To supplement his income, he's also found part-time work at a local florist's — he's always been a flower enthusiast, though not exactly a natural-born florist. He's learning on the job, of course — but for now, he's the charming smile when you walk through the door and the man who rings you up when you're ready to go. Though he remains reserved and often relies on his sarcastic humor to navigate social interactions, Annie's presence in his life continues to soften his edges. She is his greatest joy and priority, and their bond is a testament to the resilience and love that sustain them through life's challenges.
In Blue Harbor, Rory and Annie — now six years old — have found a place to rebuild their lives, surrounded by the beauty of their new home and the warmth of a community that values both craftsmanship and compassion. Far from the reach of Eliza's parents, Rory remains vigilant but hopeful, dedicated to providing a loving and stable environment for his daughter.
PERSONALITY & MORE—
Despite all the loss in his life, he remains kindhearted and optimistic; mostly for his daughter, Annie.
Keeps all of the artwork by Eliza that never found a home in a storage unit.
His humor tends to be dry, with a side of friendly teasing.
Annie is the most important person in his life. Their relationship is open, honest, and sweet. He’s doing his best.
Traveled all across Europe in his youth, following Eliza as she navigated the art scene. They eventually settled back in Edinburgh when Eliza became pregnant with Annie.
Has attended grief support group since his arrival, but has yet to open up.
He and Annie have a guinea pig named Peanut Butter who is notorious for escaping his enclosure.
Plays the piano a bit, taught by his gran, a piano prodigy.
Used to be a landscaper and a contractor back in Edinburgh.
Considers himself socially awkward, though he has an uncanny ability to put people at ease in his presence.
Is a big football fan; isn’t proud of rooting for an English team (Man United) so he keeps it to himself, mostly.
Has a black thumb (great at envisioning gardens — shitty at keeping them).
Started recently learning the meaning of flowers to better do his job at Blue Violet Blooms.
Works out regularly, but absolutely detests jogging. He thinks runner’s high is a myth.
Knows most recent (last 5 years or so) Disney and/or Pixar soundtracks by heart, thanks to Annie.
Been teaching himself how to cook for the past couple of years — he’s pretty decent at it by now.
Often makes tea for two and talks to Eliza out on the porch at night, keeping her updated on what’s happening in his and Annie’s lives.
Has no social media or online presence, save for his Etsy shop. This is on purpose — gives Eliza's parents less resources to find him and Annie.
Loves forget-me-nots and orchids.
Is pretty good with taking proper care of Annie’s hair.
Has a strong, irrational dislike of salmon. As food, that is. He’s sure the saltwater fish are fine.
Is comfortable with silences.
Likes both coffee & tea at different times of the day.
Plays up his superstitious side as a joke, but doesn’t really believe in all of that. Eliza did, though, and so did his gran, which is how he knows so much about that stuff.
Never smokes his cigarettes anywhere near Annie. He has the occasional smoke out of the house, and can usually make do with one. Packs last him a lifetime.
Partakes in weed occasionally, only when Annie is gone for the night. Eliza’s influence.

Slapshots and Contracts Blurb:
During the off-season, Sidney Crosby, Isabelle "Izzy" Noir, and their family decided to escape the hustle and bustle of their regular lives and immerse themselves in the serene beauty of Nova Scotia. The coastal province, known for its stunning landscapes and maritime charm, became the perfect backdrop for their family retreat.
The Crosby-Noir family rented a cozy cottage near the water, where the kids could run freely, and the entire family could enjoy the simple pleasures of life. The days were filled with exploration and relaxation.
They ventured to picturesque fishing villages, exploring colorful harbors and indulging in freshly caught seafood. Izzy, ever the adventurer, took the family on hikes along scenic trails, where the air was filled with the scent of pine and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks.
Sidney, a Nova Scotia native himself, shared stories of his childhood with the kids, taking them to his favorite spots and teaching them the art of skipping stones on the tranquil lakes.
Lazy afternoons were spent building sandcastles on the beaches, the kids squealing with delight as the waves tickled their toes. Sidney and Izzy, often found with their feet in the sand, cherished the moments of togetherness.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, family dinners were enjoyed on the cottage's porch, the sound of seagulls echoing in the distance. Evenings were filled with board games, laughter, and the crackling warmth of a bonfire under the starlit sky.
One day, they embarked on a boat trip to explore the rugged coastline, seals basking on the rocks, and the kids donning sailor hats in pure joy.
In a quiet moment, as they watched the sunset over the Atlantic, Sidney put his arm around Izzy. "This is perfect," he whispered.
Izzy, leaning into him, smiled. "Agreed, Sid. Nova Scotia is like a piece of paradise."
As the off-season days in Nova Scotia unfolded, the Crosby-Noir family found solace, joy, and an abundance of love in the simplicity of their time together, creating memories that would be cherished for years to come.

41 Best Places To Visit In South Africa
Tumblr media
South Africa is a beautiful country with incredible landscapes, wildlife, and people. It’s a perfect destination for travelers who want to experience something new. South Africa is one of Africa’s top tourist destinations because it has wonderful cities, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, that offer amazing experiences.
Cape Town is one of the most scenic cities in the world and it’s home to Table Mountain, which is the tallest mountain in Cape Town and one of the most photographed mountains in the world. Johannesburg is South Africa’s economic hub, and it’s known for having incredible museums and a vibrant nightlife scene.
Durban is South Africa’s largest port and it’s known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant art scene. South Africa also has incredible wildlife. It has Big Five game reserves, including Kruger National Park, which is home to Africa’s largest population of elephants. South Africa also has 11 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
It also has numerous game reserves, including Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, which is home to the world’s largest population of rhinos. Let’s explore this amazing country in detail.
Cape Town
Tumblr media
Located on the southwest coast of South Africa, the port city of Cape Town is nestled on a peninsula beneath the mountain called Table Mountain. From its flat top, you can take a rotating cable car for panoramic views of the harbor and city. From the top, you can also see the former prison of Nelson Mandela, now a living museum.
While the summer months are packed with visitors, springtime is a great time to visit Cape Town. This time of year offers great weather, lower prices, and few crowds. Daytime highs in spring are in the mid-70s Fahrenheit range. It’s still chilly on some days, but rainy days are few and far between. The weather in this season is ideal for outdoor activities and seeing the coastal blooms.
Aside from the sweeping views, Cape Town also offers a vibrant culture and a plethora of activities. It’s one of the few places where you can truly feel like a local. You can try hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, whale watching, or cage diving with great white sharks, among many others.
Johannesburg
Tumblr media
Whether you’re planning a safari or a layover on your next adventure, the city of Johannesburg is an amazing place to visit. It’s the largest city in South Africa and the busiest airport on the continent. It’s a great place for shopping and dining, and you can learn all about what to see and do while you’re in town.
While you’re in Johannesburg, be sure to visit the Apartheid Museum, where you can learn about the history of black people’s struggle for freedom. Visitors can view World War II fighter planes and medals, learn about war medicine, and witness life in the trenches during World War I.
This city also offers easy access to Pretoria, the country’s administrative capital, and the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO-listed paleoanthropological site.
Johannesburg is close to Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, and the UNESCO-listed Cradle of Humankind.
Pretoria
Tumblr media
Pretoria is one of the country’s three capital cities and serves as the executive branch of government. In addition, the city is home to all foreign embassies in South Africa. Its neighboring cities are Cape Town and Bloemfontein, which are the legislative and judicial capitals.
For history buffs, a visit to the Union Buildings is a must-do. This building was designed by Sir Herbert Baker and opened in 1913. It houses the President’s office and is considered the executive seat of government. It features a grand view of the city and has beautiful gardens. While in Pretoria, you should also stop by the historic Voortrekker Monument.
If you’re interested in learning about South Africa’s history, you should visit the Boer War Monument, a museum, and a renovated blockhouse. The museum has interactive exhibits, a huge relief, and is surrounded by a green area. It’s worth paying a visit, even if it’s just for a short break.
The Union Buildings, where Nelson Mandela took the oath to become the president of South Africa, is another historical monument worth visiting.
The complex includes a meter-high statue of Mandela, placed in a symbolic stance facing the city. The statue is an impressive conversation piece. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to access this building, so you may want to book an Uber or use public transportation.
Franschhoek
Tumblr media
Visit Franschhoek in South Africa’s Western Cape for centuries-old vineyards, Cape Dutch architecture, and the Huguenot Memorial Museum. Hike the trails through the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve and enjoy views of the Franschhoek Valley. See vintage cars on display in the mountain farmland.
The town was once a sleepy country retreat, but a property boom in the 1990s led to a dramatic rise in property prices. The region is close to Cape Town and has ideal summer weather. The area is now one of the most sought-after residential addresses in South Africa. You can also visit the Bridge House School, which is outside of town.
Visitors to Franschhoek can hike or take a bike tour of the area. Hiking trails take visitors through vineyards and fields to the top of hills with spectacular views.
Franschhoek is also known as the gourmet capital of South Africa. Many of the town’s top restaurants are popular and book months in advance. Our favorite, Foliage, is a gorgeous place that features locally foraged ingredients. Another top-notch option is Le Quartier Francais, which serves a wide range of cuisines.
Soweto
Tumblr media
Soweto is home to some phenomenal Catholic churches, bike tours, local markets, and lush green farms. And, for those of you who prefer nightlife, there are plenty of bars and clubs to check out.
While you’re in Soweto, don’t miss a visit to the Apartheid museum, which is a must-see cultural experience. You’ll learn about the years of struggle in South Africa by visiting this museum.
Soweto is also home to the Nelson Mandela house, the Hector Pieterson Museum, and a number of popular restaurants. Download GPSmyCity on your smartphone and explore Soweto with ease. You’ll be able to get offline articles and a personal tour guide, and you can take advantage of the maps.
One of the most popular attractions in Soweto is the Nelson Mandela House, which was his home for fifteen years before being sentenced to prison. Now a National Heritage Site, the building is decorated with Mandela family memorabilia and gifts from dignitaries.
You can also visit the museum that commemorates the students who died during the 1976 student uprising. While there, you can get a feel for the underlying causes of the riots that swept the city.
Durban
Tumblr media
To get a taste of Africa, visit the coastal city of Durban in eastern South Africa. The city is a mix of African, Indian, and colonial influences. The city has a seafront promenade that was recently renovated for the 2010 World Cup. The city is also home to the Durban Botanical Gardens, which showcase African plants.
Bike rides along the promenade are a scenic way to explore the city. The journey can take up to three hours, and you can see the city’s landmarks such as the North Pier and the uShaka Marine World. For the adventurous, the city has some great water sports and a skydiving center. There is also the world’s tallest swing in the Moses Mabhida Stadium, and many other sights and activities to enjoy.
Another highlight of the Durban sightseeing tour is a visit to the city’s oldest botanical garden, which was founded in 1849. The gardens showcase plants and trees endemic to South Africa. Visitors can also visit the orchid house and view the spring-fed lake. Visitors can also admire the jacaranda trees that have been growing since the late 19th century.
Aside from the sea, Durban also boasts a diverse culture and cuisine. It is home to the largest concentration of Indian descendants outside of India, so it’s no surprise that the city is home to many Indian restaurants. Whether you’re looking for authentic Indian food or a taste of South African cuisine, Durban has something for everyone.
Kruger National Park
Tumblr media
The Kruger National Park is located in South Africa, in the Mpumalanga province. It is 250 miles (405 km) from Johannesburg. You can get to the park by air or by road. Getting there by road is easy, but you should make sure you have a vehicle that can handle the terrain.
The park is vast and unspoiled and it offers a variety of activities for visitors. There are bush walks, hiking trails, and safari rides. There is a good chance you’ll spot one of the Big Five if you visit the park. However, it’s also possible to get killed while in the park, although this is extremely rare.
The best time to visit the Kruger National Park is during the dry season, which falls between April and September. The temperatures during this period are comfortable, but temperatures can drop into the 40s overnight. Because of the low water levels and sparse vegetation, you’ll have a better chance of seeing animals.
The Drakensberg
Tumblr media
The Drakensberg Mountains are home to over two thousand examples of Bushman rock art, spread across 600 sites. Many of these paintings are centuries old.
Other highlights of this area include hiking and birdwatching. You can also participate in a variety of adventure activities like rock climbing and quad biking. The temperatures are pleasant during the day but can be cool at night.
There are several scenic national parks and game reserves in the Drakensberg Mountains. The Royal Natal National Park is particularly scenic, with its great differences in altitude. It also boasts over 300 species of birdlife. Among them is the endangered Cape vulture.
Blyde River Canyon
Tumblr media
If you are looking for an incredible natural wonder, you need to Visit Blyde River Canyon. This amazing place is filled with stunning rock formations and plenty of wildlife. It is also home to the famous Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Pinnacle Rock.
The Drakensberg mountain range surrounds the canyon. The canyon is a deep cleft created when Gondwanaland split apart around 200 million years ago when Antarctica and Madagascar broke away from Africa.
The Blyde River Canyon is an excellent location for birdwatching. There are many rare species of birds that can be seen. Some of these species include the Pel’s fishing owl, blue swallow, and Taita falcon. The best viewpoint in the canyon is God’s Window, a set of seven hundred-meter-high cliffs with panoramic views of the Lowveld and Kruger National Park.
To see the canyon, you can hire a car and drive from Johannesburg. If you are unsure of your driving skills, you can also take a Bazz bus tour or book a package tour. To see the most of the canyon, it’s best to drive along the R534 loop, a 15-kilometer road, which allows you to take in all of the major attractions.
You can also enjoy hiking, fly fishing, and hot air balloon rides. You’ll be amazed at the incredible biodiversity in this area. This region is home to many species of fish, antelope, crocodiles, and almost every species of primate in South Africa.
Golden Gate Highlands National Park
Tumblr media
Golden Gate Highlands National Park is located in the Free State, South Africa, near the border with Lesotho. It is a large area that is known for its sandstone outcrops and deeply eroded cliffs. The park is also known as Brandwag rock.
This park is home to a wide variety of wildlife including the endemic black wildebeest, the rare zebra, and the mountain reedbuck. There are also caves with San rock art, and the Drakensberg is visible in the distance.
Golden Gate Highlands National Park is also an ideal location for birders, as it is home to more than 250 species of bird. It has many endemic and rare species, and its visitors can also see the beautiful bearded vulture from this park.
You’ll be able to see migratory birds here from November to April. Other notable birds include the Cape vulture, bald ibis, Jackal buzzard, and Martial eagle.
Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park
Tumblr media
The Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in South Africa is one of the oldest proclaimed nature reserves in Africa. This park covers 960 square kilometers of hilly topography and is famed for its diverse wildlife and conservation efforts. It is located 280 kilometers north of Durban.
The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is situated in the KwaZulu-Natal province. It is the oldest proclaimed protected area in Africa. This pristine area is a sanctuary for wildlife, as well as a major part of the region’s economy.
The park is home to the Big Five of Africa, including the lion and the leopard. The lion and leopard populations are comparable to those in Kruger National Park.
Another unique attraction in the park is the nyala, which is a small antelope. Its coat is chestnut-grey and it has spiral horns. The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is one of the few places where you can see all three of these species.
The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi National Park consists of two distinct sections. The Hluhluwe section has lowlands and hilly terrain and wide valleys. The habitats of this section range from grasslands to woodlands.
This park is an excellent destination for birdwatchers. Birders can enjoy the variety of birds and other animals at this park, including night heron, black-bellied korhaan, and Temminck’s courser. Other popular species to be seen include the Klaas’ cuckoo.

Even if you aren't staying at the hotel, you may pay a visit and have an afternoon tea with traditional Omani sweets in the central atrium. Locals and foreigners frequent this hotel to unwind and hear about the latest social scene in the area. For travelers, this place is Muscat worth visiting.
Street Food in Souk
Tumblr media
If you are looking to try some Omani street food in your budget with mouthwatering flavors, then you must head to the street near Hotel Radisson Blu. The entire street is home to numerous cafes that offer traditional Middle East food. If you are visiting the place, then we suggest having Yemeni dishes, which are known for their extravagant flavors.
Cruise around
Except wandering about Muscat on foot, what else could be better? Exploring Muscat via boat! A traditional dhow leaves Muscat every day at sunset for scenic tours. Stroll along the seaside Corniche of Mutrah and take in sights like the Al Alam Palace and the Al Bustan Palace.
It's fun to spend time on the water and get a new perspective. Excursions to see dolphins set sail from Muscat every day are a must thing to do in Oman.
Qaboos Grand Mosque
Tumblr media
The Sultan Qaboos Great Mosque is a must-see when in Muscat. There's no denying the mosque's aesthetic value and lavish design.
Even if you're not a practicing Muslim, you should still visit this mosque since it's one of the biggest in the world and a sight to see. Sultan Qaboos presented an example of contemporary Islamic architecture to his country in 2001, during his 30th year as monarch. Millions of worshippers a day have been coming here since then.
Everyone is welcome to attend the mosque between 8 and 11 in the morning, regardless of their religious beliefs.
Mutrah Souk
The Mutrah Souk must be visited at least once by each tourist in Muscat. It's what brings most visitors to Mutrah, and it's one of the most visited sites in Oman. It is the primary attraction of Mutrah and a top tourist destination in the whole Sultanate of Oman.
Here you may visit a real, authentic souk on the Arabian Peninsula. A souk is an "Arabian market or bazaar." Although reading about them is interesting, seeing one in person is another experience. The Mutrah Souk is a maze of winding streets after you pass through the entrance. There are several small stores here selling perfume, jewelry, and authentic Omani apparel.
Frankincense incense is unique to Oman and has deep cultural roots since it is distilled from the resin of certain plants.
Epilogue
Tumblr media
Taking a Big Bus sightseeing tour, where you may get on and off at any stop along the route, is one of the best ways to view this historic city. The ancient domes of the Muttrah Souk, the more contemporary Royal Opera House, and the highest clock in the nation, located in Muscat's parliament building, are just a few of the many modern and historic architectural pleasures strewn around Oman's beautiful city. Explore unique things to do in Muscat and capture your lifetime moments. So if you haven’t applied for your Oman visa online, then you must hurry; otherwise, you will regret missing such an amazing experience.

9 Great Activities for Dogs and Pets in Boston!
Tumblr media
By John Grzybowski
A common traveler’s rule of thumb when arriving in a new city is always to “ask a local.”  Whether you need the best food, the easiest parking, or the most vibrant nightlife, locals are always trying to be ahead of the curve and usually point visitors in the right direction.
Greater Boston Dog Hikes has been scoping out the best spots in Boston for dogs and their owners for more than 10 years, and now we’d like to share our favorites with you!
9 Dog-Friendly Activities to Do in Boston
For more places to see than the dog park near the airport, check out these nine dog-friendly activities to do in Boston.
1. Walk Beacon Hill
Tumblr media
One of Boston’s oldest and most elegant neighborhoods, Beacon Hill is nationally renowned for its architecture and design.  Its well-preserved cobblestone streets are full of small parks and beautiful scenes for you and your pup to explore.
Note that it is, in fact, on one of Boston’s highest hills, so be ready to climb and work out some excess energy!
2. Visit the Boston Public Garden
The Boston Public Garden is not only America’s first botanical garden, but it is also one of the most scenic spots in the whole city.  Featuring famous statues, diverse trees and flowers, and a four-acre pond with swan boats, there is never a lack of sights to see here.
Leashed dogs are welcome, and there are free dog waste bags at the corners of the garden.
The Boston Public Garden is located adjacent to the Boston Common, which is a larger park that has an off leash area!
3. Go to the Beach
Most of the year, Boston’s beaches are known for their wind and frigid waters.  However, come summertime, these beaches become focal points of the city's daytime leisure, and many of the best beaches are dog-friendly!
Some of our favorite dog-friendly beaches in the area include:
Revere Beach: America’s oldest public beach has been dog-friendly since 2013, and it’s well worth a visit!  It is train and bus accessible and fills up rather quickly in the summer.
Pleasure Bay Beach (South Boston): This bottle-opener-shaped bay is the most scenic spot in Southie and allows dogs year round.
Carson Beach (South Boston/Dorchester): Located further south than Pleasure Bay, between Southie and Dorchester, this is a smaller but no less lovely beach.  Dogs are welcome from Labor Day through Memorial Day.
Tumblr media
4. Walk the Seaport Harborwalk
Across the harbor from Downtown is the newly bustling Seaport District.  Besides the area’s high-end bars and restaurants, the Seaport also boasts a beautiful stretch of Boston’s 43-mile long Harborwalk, which stretches from Dorchester to East Boston.
Your pup can get in some good sniffs while you bask in the views of Downtown, the Airport, and some of the harbor islands in the distance.
Dogs must be leashed on the Harborwalk, but dog waste bags are provided at several spots along the walk.
5. Rose Kennedy Greenway
Stretching from the southern tip of Chinatown to the North End, the Rose Kennedy Greenway is a long series of parks and art installations that is sure to impress.  The Greenway crosses through the heart of Downtown Boston, passing through notable landmarks such as The Aquarium and Faneuil Hall.
Located within walking distance of several of the city’s key attractions, you can enjoy several dog-friendly parks where you can socialize with other dog owners while visiting The Greenway.
We’d recommend taking the Green Line to  Haymarket Station and then taking the Greenway from the North End all the way to South Station to get a good taste of the Downtown atmosphere.
6. Ride the “T”
Tumblr media
By far the best way to get around Boston is its fantastic subway system (which is the oldest in America).  The “T,” as it is known, can take you all over the city for a few dollars – best of all, dogs ride free!
Boston’s public transit system allows service animals at all hours, and non-service animals are allowed to ride at all times except rush hours.  What classifies as rush hour can sometimes be up to the train operator, so be ready to occasionally wait for the next train.
Dogs riding the buses and trains must be leashed at all times, and they cannot take up their own seat.
Take the T with your pup to cover the whole city in a day!
7. Play at the Dog Park
Boston has a fantastic selection of off-leash dog parks for you to choose from!  A few of our favorites include:
South Boston Bark Park (1280 Columbia Road)
Peters Park Dog Park (1205 Washington St., Boston)
East 1st Dog Park (768-764 E 1st St., northern section of South Boston)
The Underground Dog Park (S Bay Harbor Trail, Boston
Bay Village Dog Park (114 Charles St, Boston)
If you want to polish up your pups obedience skills our team is typically in these parks daily!
8. Go to a Dog-Friendly Event
Boston offers many different pet-themed events for all seasons. A couple that you may want to check out include:
Canine Promenade – Boston hosts an annual ½-mile Halloween Parade on the Charles River Esplanade. Walk the town with your pup and enter the costume contest to win prizes from the judges!
Carnival of Dogs – This dog carnival, held in early September, turns the Rose Kennedy Greenway into a great place to introduce your pup to new friends!
9. Blue Hills Reservation
Just nine miles south of Downtown Boston is the expansive and breathtaking Blue Hills Reservation.  This 7,000 acre state park offers varied terrain, scenic views, mountain biking and skiing, as well as ponds for swimming and hiking trails for you and your pup!
The Blue Hills hiking trails are a favorite of local dog owners, and we regularly take out our dogs here for longer-distance hikes. Make sure your pet is fit enough for extended walking, especially in older age! But any dog still keen on trekking will love this path.
During the summer, on-leash walking is advised as the trails can get crowded.
***
As you can see, Boston has tons of great dog-friendly activities to enjoy with your four-footer! Just remember to keep your pooch’s specific likes and dislikes in mind when picking an adventure – that way, you can be sure your pup will approve!
Have you visited any of these places or enjoyed any of these activities? We’d love to hear about your experiences! Also, be sure to share your favorite things to do in Boston with your pets - We’re always eager to try out new things!

Fitness Focused Living
Staying fit is key to feeling good and living a healthy lifestyle. If you’re looking to make fitness a priority, apartments for rent Downtown Long Beach area, like 200 West Ocean, offer some great perks. You’ll be greeted with scenic views of the SoCal coastline and Catalina Island, giving you a serene backdrop as you work on your health goals. The state-of-the-art fitness center has everything from free weights to cardio equipment, making it easier to stick to your routine. After your workout, you can unwind in the pavilion, a perfect spot for relaxation. With all these amenities right at your doorstep, staying fit becomes both convenient and enjoyable.
The Transportation System in Long Beach, California
Getting around Long Beach, California, is pretty straightforward, thanks to its solid transportation options. You can hop on the Metro A Line, which connects you to downtown Los Angeles and beyond. Biking is a breeze here, with dedicated paths along the beach and through the city. If you prefer driving, the freeway access is convenient, and parking isn’t as stressful as in some other cities. The Long Beach Transit buses are reliable and cover most of the area, making it easy to get where you need to go without a car. For something different, there’s even a water taxi that gives you scenic rides across the harbor. Long Beach makes it simple to get from point A to point B.
Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach, CA
Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach is the perfect spot if you’ve got a dog that loves to run free. It’s one of the few places in the area where dogs can play off-leash, and you’ll see pups of all shapes and sizes splashing in the waves or chasing tennis balls. The vibe is super friendly—both for the dogs and their owners—so it’s easy to strike up a conversation while your furry friend makes new buddies. The beach itself is clean and well-maintained, with plenty of room to spread out. There’s parking nearby and even water stations to keep your pup hydrated. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s a great place to spend a laid-back afternoon with your dog.
Fairmont Breakers Debuts In Long Beach, CA
The opening of Fairmont Breakers Long Beach is exciting news for the city. The hotel’s rich history, combined with modern luxury, makes it a unique addition to the area. It’s great to see such a historic building being restored and revitalized, especially when it’s as iconic as this one, with ties to Hollywood stars like Cary Grant and Elizabeth Taylor. The new amenities, like the luxury spa, rooftop bar, and event spaces, add a level of sophistication that could elevate Long Beach’s reputation as a destination for both locals and tourists. However, with all these high-end features, the real question will be whether it can blend seamlessly into the community without overshadowing the charm that made Long Beach special in the first place.
