At the top of the hill are the remnants of a fort that was formerly a prison. Given its incline, it was also known as the Fort of Death or Savandurga.

It’s a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a physical challenge and a deep connection with the stunning natural surroundings.
The Ideal Time to Embark on the Savandurga Hills Trek
The best time to visit Savandurga Hill Karnataka is during the post-monsoon season, which typically spans from October to March. During this period, the weather is cool and dry, providing comfortable conditions for trekking. The monsoon season, which occurs from June to September, must be avoided as the trails can become slippery, and there is a risk of heavy rainfall, making the trek dangerous. Additionally, the summer months from April to June can be scorching hot, making trekking uncomfortable, so it’s best to plan your visit during the cooler, post-monsoon months for a more enjoyable experience.
Important Details Regarding Trek
Trek Details:
Altitude: Savandurga stands tall at an impressive height of 4022 feet.
Trek Distance: The trek covers a distance of approximately 5 kilometers.
Duration: This trek spans 1 day and 1 night, offering a memorable overnight experience.

Karigudda Trail: This is the easier of the two trails and is suitable for beginners. It leads to the smaller peak, Karigudda, offering captivating views of the surrounding landscape.
Billigudda Trail: The Billigudda Trail is more challenging and involves steep inclines, making it a favorite among experienced trekkers. It takes you to the larger peak, Billigudda, which stands at an elevation of 1,201 meters above sea level.
Location of Savandurga Hills:
Savandurga Hills, nestled in the Indian state of Karnataka, stands as an enticing destination for trekking enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Savandurga Hills distance from Bangalore is just 60 kilometers away, making it an ideal destination for a weekend escape or a day trip from the city.
Essential Trekking Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable Adventure:
Booking in Advance: When planning the trek to Savandurga Hills, it’s advisable to book your accommodation well in advance. Resorts near Savandurga Hills can fill up quickly, particularly during peak trekking seasons. Booking early ensures you have a comfortable place to stay before and after your trek, allowing you to rest and recover effectively.
Early Morning Start: Commencing your trek early is a fundamental tip. This lets you witness mesmerizing sunrise views and helps you avoid the scorching midday heat. The relaxed, tranquil morning atmosphere is perfect for tackling the initial stretches of your trek.
Hydration is Key: One of the most important aspects of trekking is staying adequately hydrated. Ensure you carry sufficient water to quench your thirst throughout the journey. Dehydration can lead to fatigue and discomfort, so sip water regularly to keep your energy levels up.
Footwear Matters: Your choice of footwear can significantly influence your trekking experience. Invest in comfortable, sturdy trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support. Ill-fitting or inappropriate shoes can lead to blisters and discomfort, potentially affecting your progress.
Dress Smartly: Dressing in layers is an intelligent strategy for trekking, especially in regions with varying altitudes. Start with a moisture-wicking starting layer to keep sweat away from the skin, add insulating layers for warmth, and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer to protect against changing weather conditions. This layering system allows you to adapt to temperature fluctuations and stay comfortable.
Pack Snacks and a First-Aid Kit: Carry a selection of energy-boosting snacks like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruit to keep the energy levels up during breaks. A basic first-aid kit with essentials like bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and any necessary personal medications can be a lifesaver in case of minor injuries or discomfort.
Leave No Trace: Responsible trekking involves adhering to the Leave No Trace principles. This means respecting the natural environment by not littering, disturbing wildlife, or damaging vegetation. Always carry your trash back with you, avoid loud noises, and follow established trails to minimize your impact on the ecosystem.
These comprehensive trekking tips are essential for your safety and contribute to a more enjoyable and environmentally responsible trekking experience.
