Orodreth: So how is Thingol handling being an empty-nester?
Beleg: This is Turin, his new mortal son. We're working on getting mom and sister too.
Orodreth: Gotcha.

Something I love about the implications of the new ‘elemental’ weapons in totk is the idea that link is powering these things himself.
Like, in the first game the weapons were always on - they powered up whether they were being held or sheathed or even dropped. Give a monster a smack, drop it on the ground and it’ll light back up in a few seconds. Generally, this meant that link didn’t have magic, unlike other games in the series. Even the champion’s abilities were just that - the champion’s! He just indicated when to light it up!
But in totk it’s very different. Now, he’s crafting and powering his own gear. The gems were long theorised to be the main ingredient creating magic items, like elemental arrows or enchanted jewellery and armour, and now we have proof!! He’s even learned how to do it himself! Combining gems, or even monster parts to his weapons and lighting them up whenever he wants! Turns them on and off at will! He’s learned to channel magic sometime between botw and totk, something not all heroes learn to do! In fics he’s long been one of the few to have no magic talent whatsoever, and now that’s changed! Wild can officially join the ranks of the magic users!
There’s also the issue of where he learned it and who taught him, but the answer is pretty obvious, and speaks volumes of how far Zelda has come on her own journey.
#botw#totk#loz totk#loz link#wild lu#lu wild#tears of the kingdom#loz tears of the kingdom#tloz tears of the kingdom#tloz#loz#Imagine if pre calamity zelda had been instructed with teaching the champion magic. ohhh she would have burned.#the idea of link being good at magic - her thing - on top of everything else? she would have HATED it.#but now she's probably suggested it herself! she wanted to see if he could do it! she sat down and taught him what she learned#through the endless tutors and books and prayers and late night research and then a century of living as infinite light#its such a huge growth both mentally and magically. the useless student has become the experienced teacher. she's matured so much ToT#totk link#totk zelda#botw zelda#botw totk#botw tears of the kingdom

finally, a recording of my singing voice that I like - only took............... nine years. okay. yeah. fuck me.
#my dad was on national television (not u.s.) for singing. as a kid. when the first TVs were being.. released in our country#mom won state competitions (our equivalent anyway)#they sent me in to this fuckin. juliard type place when i was ten. because someone up the ladder owed a friend of a friend a favor..#and i literally. 1) didnt know how to sing. at all. no discussion happened previous. 2) didnt know the language they wrote everything in#it was fun. i sat in for a class - shattered my ego in ways I couldnt quite put into words#and then three years nothing#then. when my voice started to break. do that annoying teenage thing - they got me private tutor#i was incompetent and (unbeknownst to moi) had a massive crush on the tutor#so that was another. fun . part#so it's been interesting#getting here#one recording#lmao.#I'm happy#hmrsrmbl

nothing makes me feel more pathetic than when I’m trying to do a basic as fuck sum in my head and my brain is giving me absolutely nothing
not a single gear moving up there. Brain just clocks out when numbers are involved and trying to force it to figure out even the simplest calculations physically feels excruciating and exhausting
meanwhile my dad and my brother will be looking at me like I’m some alien experiment bc how can I be so stupid that I can’t do this shit in my head?
#I’ve always suspected I’ve got some degree of dyscalculia bc there are other related issues I have in that area#I used to slam my head on the table in primary school in frustration and cry when I couldn’t get my brain to figure things out#my exams and jotter margins were peppered with loads of tiny dot marks from where I would have to physically make a mark to count#and then count up how many marks I’d made to do the multiplication or whatever. Like 6x7 I would do six sets of seven dots and count them#I can’t do it in my head and school made me feel like an absolute moron for it but no-one ever suggested I might have an issue there#I couldn’t memorise times tables beyond like 2 and 5 and 10 consistently. Even 4 wouldn’t stick somehow#and 6 7 and 8 made me cry from how much I struggled with them. I still can’t remember them#I had a maths tutor in high school for my last year and every week he would have to teach me things again bc it wouldn’t stay in my head#My dad would shout at me when I was asking for help at maths homework bc he somehow thought shouting the sum at me would make me Get it#uncle would throw questions at me and my bro to figure out and my brother would get it instantly and I would be sat there struggling#and then the inevitable impatient sound of a disbelieving ‘come on!!’ would follow and I’d feel worse bc im expected to do it and I couldnt#there’s a home video of me trying to figure out the difference between the years 1982 and 1987 and the pause while the gears struggle#ton work out the number before saying it is agonising to listen to bc I am genuinely taking that long to do it

its SUCH a great pleasure seeing other people get better at rain world from a total beginner level to passable to great because it really is an accomplishment. the learning curve is something you teach yourself or that others help you traverse. it feels like when youre teaching your friends this game that youre like a parent scug teaching their child scug lizard murder tech and/or movement tech lmao
from a beginner level killing a pink lizard is a rite of passage to a normal skill level, after that killing a vulture is the rite of passage to a great skill level. if youre crazy enough you might achieve being god via using normal spears only, to kill a red centipede
(i have played this game for 5-ish years and i still refuse to touch red centipedes without spore puffs or explosives to stun them)
#getting my friend into this game and how to kill made me feel like an old battle scarred tutor#we really sat down and had tea over talks of the focus inside our soul /j#text#rant/ramble#rain world

Angry at parents hour!
Undiagnosed autistic fuckers are delulu.
#headline descriptor plus rant in tags#oh yeah sure sibling could have#sat down and studied for his finals#if only he wanted to#bitch you sent him to a school that did not have a special education program#you have been told he has learning difficulties#you didn’t get him diagnosed#you failed at providing him adequate help and tutoring#and yes that was on you because you sent him to a school that wouldn’t do that proactively#on purpose#so they wouldn’t bother you#oh but he is so smart and holds enceclapidic knowledge of d&d and Pokémon in his mind#that doesn’t translate to studying skills and ability to write out his thoughts and you know it#fuck you some things are your fault#and your responsibility as a parent#and now you couldn’t adequately provide education support to your youngest child for three years in a row#even though it’s your fourth autistic kid#you knew the signs damn well#and don’t get me started on dad#he just straight up doesn’t contribute anything to the conversation unless it’s about something that interesting to him#I don’t think you get to do that as a parent?#in the 21 century at least#why the fuck do I never know this man’s opinion on anything except music and fantasy series?#the kicker is those two know damn well you need support to grow in a meaningful way as an autistic child and young person#they were autistic children and young people#they have had support#they have had other people’s input#they had support beside irrelevant literature presented without explanation and advice to check the web#where the fuck did they get the idea that a person related to both of them is able to sit down and study without external support and#or a meaningful structure
