Home by Perera Elsewhere
Art urges journeys, but always leads us home. Few artists have embodied this more than Sasha Perera’s moniker Perera Elsewhere. Journeys have punctuated Perera Elsewhere’s career, taking her from London’s vibrant club scene to Berlin’s bass experimentalist underground. All of which developed her shapeshifting approach to music. Her use of technology to create and to experiment with her voice, lyrics, percussive beats, deep bass frequencies and sound design to explore the human experience, all led to the ‘Doom-Folk’ coined sound of the Perera Elsewhere project, where she found a home on LA label Friends of Friends, releasing two widely-acclaimed albums. Elsewhere, but always rooted. No matter where Perera has found herself musically–from live shows & DJ sets at institutions such as Berghain, the Guggenheim, the Hamburg Philharmonic, Mutek Festival, or music licensed for Ava DuVernay’s ‘Queen Sugar’ or by Oscar winning director Paolo Sorrentino – she has constructed a creative habitat and welcomed others to it. A true multi-hyphenate, Perera’s open and autodidact technique is also highlighted by a long list of collaborations, composing music for moving image, art installations & dance. Naturally, Perera’s work has led to invitations by renowned companies and cultural institutions such as Ableton, Native Instruments or the award-winning Errrormusic in Berlin to share her creative knowledge with studio sessions, workshops, teaching, and mentoring. She’s also worked with the British Council as well as Goethe Institute as an artist and co-curator on music projects and tech education initiatives across Asia and Africa. She is clearly at home in many places. Inspired by the many things that transpired between 2019-2022 -highlighted by the pandemic-, Home is a juxtaposition on the idea of ‘Elsewhere’ and reflections on leaving/coming/staying home. The album is a musical coming of age and apotheosis of all her previous work. “I am somehow a little less shrouded in doom on this record, maybe more free with myself as a person, a producer & musician,” she explains, “This record resonates that freedom sonically, lyrically and visually.” “I wanted to create a creative (safe) space for myself and this record represents that.” she says. For some, home is a place you leave, for others a place you arrive; Perera Elsewhere captures this complex simplicity, as a very natural part of her musical journey. ‘ I am many, within one body and one life…. with remnants of our ancestors within us, we all somehow navigate through the Now……’ - Perera Elsewhere クレジット2022年9月30日リリース

Welcome to Berlin: Then & Now, a podcast series exploring the city’s rich musical past, present and future through the gaze of two unique artists from different generations. Recorded at the Sonos Store in Mitte, both artists share ideas and play each other tracks using the Sonos One Smart Speaker with voice control. In our first episode, Peaches sat down with Lotic for a candid conversation about the different generations of Berlin’s queer scene and the ways in which they’ve both found a community in the city. For episode two, photographer, artist and activist Wolfgang Tillmans met Luz Diaz, the founder of Room 4 Resistance, a Berlin–based queer femme and non–binary collective focused on building communities and creating safety and visibility for marginalised voices in dance music. In this episode, punk icon Gudrun Gut sits down with experimental musician Perera Elsewhere for a conversation spanning narcissism, experimentation, grime, beatmaking and Berlin. Gudrun Gut is a German electronic musician who moved to Berlin in 1975. In the decades since then, her work has spanned many disciplines, genres and eras. From the “ingenious dilettantes” punk subculture of early 1980s to helping set-up female:pressure – an international network of female, transgender and non-binary artists in the fields of electronic music and digital arts. Her story is one of tireless support for the underground and a commitment to amplifying art that matters. As The Wire magazine wrote in a 2008 cover story on Gudrun, she is “a girl from German heatherlands who moved to Berlin to become one of the city’s central figures – feminist agitator, festival organizer, entrepreneur.” Someone else who moved to Berlin and found a rhythm of her own is Sasha Perera – a producer and artist who makes music under the name Perera Elsewhere. Creating a sound which she calls “doom-folk”, the London-born artist’s bass-heavy productions are born out of experimentation and musical exploration. As the name suggests, she makes music that sounds as if it’s come from someplace else. Both Sasha and Gudrun understand the importance of finding spaces to experiment and exposing audiences to unfamiliar sounds. Gudrun has founded a number of influential record labels while Sasha is responsible for bringing grime forefathers Skepta and D Double E over to Berlin for their first ever non-UK dates. Perera Elsewhere
London-born artist Sasha Perera may currently be based in Berlin but, as her stage name Perera Elsewhere suggests, her music seems to come from another realm. Having premiered a track by her recent collaborators Gebrüder Teichmann yesterday, today we celebrate the sultry, otherworldly sound of Perera Elsewhere’s ‘Happened’, taken from her recent album All Of This, which was written and recorded in Berlin, Istanbul, and Mumbai over the course of three years…

(Perera Elsewhere)
THANX : FADER YR WORDS ARE SO ON POINT
Berlin-based British experimentalist Perera Elsewhere (real name Sasha Perera) knows the power of quiet. On her 2013 debut album Everlast, her spacious productions and whispery vocals borrowed elements of trip-hop and folk to create a haunting new hybrid. With the follow-up All of This, due June 2 on Friends of Friends, the singer-songwriter pushes her stripped-back, sometimes menacing sound to even greater extremes — nowhere more so than on the 50 Cent-interpolating "Karam."Over a sparse bed of bass and chimes, Perera repeats two lustful lines over and over, her charisma and the minimalist setting creating a skin-prickling effect.
"'Karam' has a lot to do with yearning, temptation, and longing for something," Perera explained in an email to The FADER. "It's the promise of something almost unreachable or something you put on a pedestal. I recorded this song while I was living in Istanbul in 2015. I was in a place I didn't wanna be doing something I didn't wanna do. Making this song was a very dark and beautiful form of dealing with the world I was living in...a tiny protest. I somehow feel like this is my most "Burial" moment to date! Every artist has to have one!" Listen to "Karam" below, and pre-order All of This here.

Easy Spirit Re-Energises Identity with New “Move For” Ad Campaign for Spring 2018
New Easy Spirit Campaign Celebrates the Personal Motivations of Today’s Women While Embracing the Brand’s Legacy of Comfortable Footwear
Easy Spirit, a women’s comfort footwear brand, is relaunching its brand and business with refreshed products, brand positioning, wholesale and ecommerce growth strategies, and communications platform.
This reinvention comes on the heels of being acquired by Marc Fisher Footwear last January, when CEO Marc Fisher sought to bring the brand back into the portfolio of Marc Fisher Footwear brands. Nine West Group, which was co-founded by his father, Jerome Fisher, previously owned the brand.
Born from a need that working women had during the 1980s NYC transit strike, the brand is again drawing from its heritage and ethos to deliver comfort during a cultural shiftone in which comfort is becoming table stakes in footwear and apparel.
“Today’s woman moves for so many new and different reasons; more than ever she is prioritising comfort. Just as it did 35 years ago, Easy Spirit is reacting to relevant cultural shifts by evolving to accommodate women’s comfort needs,” said Marc Fisher.
Driven by consumer feedback conducted by agency partner Graj + Gustavsen, the brand continues to stand for comfort and ease with its new brand platform, ‘Makers of Easy’.
The brand is also returning to its TV roots with a new commercial, “Move For”, the first commercial since the “Looks Like a Pump, Feels Like a Sneaker” ad of the 1980s and ’90s.
“The new campaign celebrates the personal motivations of today’s women while also embracing the brand’s legacy of enabling ease of movement through comfortable footwear,” said Shanya Perera, VP of Marketing and Advertising.
Made for women, by women, the piece was shot in New York City by director Sasha Levinson and highlights the sights, sounds and actions of the everyday hustle of women across a broad spectrum of age and lifestyles.
“Move For” will be supported through a full media buy including television commercials airing in targeted bursts on a mix of broadcast and cable/syndication networks, digital video, social advertising, geo-targeted out-of-home units, programmatic display, as well as digital and influencer partnerships.
“With a legacy rooted in creating a simple, easy solution to a universal need of comfort, the story of Easy Spirit has always been one of ingenuity and innovative thinking. We know we have a very loyal customer and we are committed to making her life easy.
“However we also know comfort is a shared spirit and we have the opportunity to attract new customers of all ages and walks of life ” said Susan Itzkowitz, President of Marc Fisher Footwear.
The brand’s step forward includes refreshed products, which has received a strong reaction from retailers. It is continuing to build the distribution of the brand to new retail partners domestically and internationally, as well as reinvigorating the business for existing partners.

Perera Elsewhere reflects on her origins on new EP, Thrill
Listen to ‘Sunk In Motion, a new track featuring Dis Fig, now.
Perera Elsewhere, aka Berlin-based ‘doom-folk’ artist Sasha Perera, is back with a new EP.
Thrill sees Perera reflecting on the origins of her name and artistic moniker. “The cover photograph was taken in London when I was about 7 yrs old. Sasha Ravindranathan was my name. I had my father’s 14-letter long Tamil surname until I was 22 years old”, explains the artist.
Thrill EP by Perera Elsewhere
“12 years after my parents split, I took on my mum’s surname Perera, a Portuguese colonial name common amongst the Sinhala majority in Sri Lanka, and one that happens to be more palatable and less intimidating for those underexposed the generic idea of ‘western’ culture”, she continues. “Growing up with that long name shaped me and my identity. Misplaced and displaced, this is Perera Elsewhere in the making.”
The EP marks Perera’s first release since her album All Of This, which was released back in 2017 by Friends Of Friends.
Thrill is out now. Check out the cover art and tracklist below.

Dis Fig announces debut album Purge on PTP, premieres single
Best known for her genre-splicing DJ sets that merge doom metal, industrial techno and Atlanta trap; Berlin-based producer Dis Fig (a.k.a. Felicia Chen) has announced her debut album, Purge, out March 15 via the fittingly nonconformist PTP label. As iconoclastic as her mixes, the record augments its deconstructed club soundscapes with screeched vocals and orchestral composition — Sasha Perera of Perera Elsewhere lends trumpet to two tracks. “[Purge] is when you reach that moment which makes your brow furrow because your chest is getting hot and something is about to erupt,” Chen said in a press release. “When the feeling starts crawling up your neck, choking you, and you could try to make it stop but maybe it’s better for you if you don’t. When what comes out is painful — it’s tragic, it’s crippling. But with it comes a sliver of beauty. It’s burning and it’s stunning. When it’s over, you may learn by staring at the embers.” You too can join in the volcanic catharsis: stream Purge’s first (suitably-titled) single, “Unleash,” down below, pre-order the album from PTP here, and peep its slated artwork (by Jeremiah Carter) and full tracklisting while you’re at it. Purge tracklisting: 01. Drum Fife Bugle 02. Alive 03. Watering 04. U Said U Were 05. Unleash 06. The Hermit 07. Purge 08. WHY 09. I Am The Tree http://j.mp/2HRfshh
