Speculation: "Zookeeper Dad" Theory + Discussion
This theory comes from the Sarah & Duck subreddit. Might be scraping the bottom of the barrel here.
This sounds a bit out there, right? Some parts however do make some sense, and are certainly a unique way to view the show. The original theory is as follows:
Tumblr media
[Source: reddit.com/r/sarahandduck/comments/arjndy/my_theory_about_sarahs_parents]
Supporting Evidence
The weekend hypothesis actually has ground, as from my skimming of the episode list, none of the episodes take place over the course of more than two days. Lots of Shallots and Picture Planes are such episodes, taking place over the time of two days. Singular day episodes fit neatly at any point in the weekend, and the two day ones would start on Saturday and continue to Sunday.
To offer a correction, Sarah actually says five days since they last saw the sea cows in Paisley Sea. Although you could interpret this as "five days ago", I interpret it as a five day gap.
Tumblr media
Sarah also seems to have the zookeeper outfit seen in Sarah, Duck and the Penguins ready and prepared beforehand, not having to gather pieces or parts to assemble it. It seems to be a pre-existing outfit in her wardrobe.
Tumblr media
Sarah and Duck are also never shown paying admission for the zoo in every episode they visit there. If the Narrator was a zookeeper, it's possible that he's allowed free entry for family members. That, or perhaps this zoo lacks paying for admission entirely, being a free experience. The entrance to the zoo does not feature any sort of gate or place to purchase tickets/other modes of entry.
Tumblr media
[Source: Series 1, Episode 2, Sarah, Duck and the Penguins]
Sarah is additionally mistaken for a new zookeeper by another employee. Although she's confused, the Narrator doesn't refute that Sarah isn't a new zookeeper, and instead lets her assume this role. It's possible that, if the Narrator was a zookeeper, he would be able to watch over Sarah as she works in the penguin pen.
Contrary Evidence...?
So this is where things get very confusing. This next bit basically threw a wrench into several of my potential talking points and also part of my evidence presented prior. Be warned.
In Decorating Donkey, Sarah pulls out a calendar to mark a specific date before noticing the day the episode takes place on is when Tortoise wakes from hibernation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can see that the day the episode takes place on the second day of the week, which on most calendar layouts, is not a weekend day. This day would either be Monday if the layout was SMTWTFS, or Tuesday if the layout were MTWTFSS. However, none of these are actually the case. It's not even a six-column layout- one that features Saturday and Sunday on the same square- because it's something weirder. which I will make their own posts later:
Weeks in the world of Sarah & Duck are (possibly) only six days.
You can see this from the layout of the calendar in the right image. The dates the next row over are the previous ones with six added to them. The day a week after Tortoise day is only six days later, as opposed to a full week's seven.
Because of this, there is no way of knowing which days truly exist in a "Sarah & Duck week". If anything, having one less day in a week would make the "five days ago" point stronger.
Wait, this was about zookeepers and dads, right?
Minus that spiral of confusion, Sarah, when looking to the Narrator/Dad, she always looks at the camera, and never above it.

Closing Thoughts
Time anomalies aside, I think this is a neat "add-on" theory to NarraDad. "NarraKeeper" is basically just NarraDad with a few more steps to explain more things. I kinda like it. Obviously we don't see a school or any educational facilities in Sarah & Duck, giving credence to the weekend idea. Only issue with that I see is, unless Sarah's split parents lived decently close to each other, that's a lot of moving around for a kid to do. Then again, I do not come from a split household, so I have no frame of reference. Sarah also seems to have everything she needs at Dad's/the Narrator's house, which might make sense if her stay at Mom's is more based on academics. And perhaps unless Sarah was an incredibly good student, surely it would be reasonable for her to have assignments run over into the weekend? Or projects/other big assignments be given over the weekend?
Once again, neat lens to view the show through, all in all. Also once again, not intending to sway anyone to a side, just discussing and thinking and looking at these things with a closer eye.

Advice for Remy, Day 221. Sometimes all you need is to relax and watch TV. You’ve had a few favourite TV programmes in your time. Your first (and still a firm favourite guaranteed to bring you out in a big smile) is Mr Tumble. His slapstick shenanigans were the first thing on TV I remember you smiling at, and you always seem fixated when he’s around. Your current firm favourite (and your mum and I are huge fans too) is the magnificent Sarah and Duck. From the moment the first word of the theme tune comes on you stop what you’re doing and stare at the TV in smiling amazement, I’m assuming keen to discover what mischief duck is going to get into, or what weirdly mesmerising friends Sarah will make. It’s one of the few things that’ll stop you in your tracks and grab your attention for a long period of time. Now we’re not the kind of parents to promote watching TV - you only ever really watch it on weekend mornings and the occasional ‘In The Night Garden’ before bed on a Friday evening. And I think that’s what makes you so captivated when you do watch something you like, as it’s a real treat. As you get older we’ll introduce you to all sorts of things that your mum and I love - comedies, dramas, films, cartoons, documentaries - but through it all, and this is the most important thing to remember, you need to make sure you make yourself as comfy as you did today. Because if there’s one thing necessary when watching great TV, it’s a perfectly comfy vantage point.

Sarah and Duck
I’m just saying if you need something wholesome and positive and sweet Sarah and Duck is my favorite animated show on this earth.
It’s British, it’s light, it features a girl and a duck who love lemon water.
It has a lovely art style that is minimalist and freeing. It has beautiful muted but pleasing colors.
It is my most favorite thing on this earth.
And you can find free clips and episodes on YouTube from the official channel.

Wanted to take a brief moment to share an entirely unrelated magical girl project with you guys. Some of you know I'm a mom, a lot of you don't. A lot of my limitations of creating new content are in being a stay-at-home mom, and giving my full attention and care to my daughter, meaning my work schedule is limited almost only to her nap time, and late at night (hence my crazy 3am PST posts). This was a little project I decided to put together for her. Being a little over 18 months now, I'm trying to do everything I can to help her hit her milestones, and let me tell you, it's hard. Being a parent is hella hard. Rewarding beyond belief, but hella hard. She loves this show though - Sarah & Duck. Being a UK show though, getting any kind of merch is a little bit difficult. So I decided to make a small, easy to hold, easy to read, easy to flip, easy to point at book for her. I used matte waterproof sticker paper, .5mm chipboard, glue, loose hinged binding rings, and the character images came from the Sarah & Duck website where they have a bunch of downloadable crafts. All made here in my own home. I love my kiddo, and I don't share a lot about her here because her story will eventually be her own to tell. But I was really proud of this project, and wanted to share it so you all could see too. I was actually insanely amazed that my crazy cutting machine (the same one I use to make the images for all of my apparel and my decals) managed to somehow also cut through chip-board. Just goes to show you, where there's a will, there's a way! #momlife #kidcrafts #sarahandduck @cbeebieshq @sarahandduckofficial
