BACKSTORY

Sarah was born a premature baby, clearly eager to finally be outside of the womb. Despite that, her childhood was pretty normal. Well, that was until she turned five years old. Things started to go downhill for the family, especially the little girl and her mother. The problem was her father, Marcus. For reasons the little girl still doesn't understand, he started drinking and abusing both Sarah and her mother, Olivia. Luckily, Marcus was mostly out of the house either at work or at the bar, leaving the two home alone. At this time, Olivia would play with and teach Sarah. Since they couldn't afford to pay for school, kindergarten or daycare, Olivia took the responsibility of homeschooling her daughter. An abusive and traumatic year later, Olivia decided to flee home with Sarah. However, instead taking the child with her, the mother decided to give Sarah up for adoption. The little girl still doesn't know why. But life at the orphanage was admittedly better. Since she didn't talk much and mostly kept to herself, Sarah didn't make a lot of friends, but she had a few close ones. While other children were getting adopted into new families, Sarah refused as she was afraid one or both of her adoptive parents might end up being like Marcus. The staff respected that decision and let her be. Another year later, the carriage came.

I'm watching episode 415, little Sarah is on her deathbed, and HOW did I never notice before that Robert Cobert worked the first four notes of the Dies Irae into the background music? I'd better go unlock the door so the ghost of my old music theory professor can come slap me upside the head.
