Here's some unfortunate baby Akari and a smidgen of Spartan Ingo.

Putting this down before I forget it (since it's 2 am and I really should be asleep)

Sangheili Akari is an illegally modified Sangheili. She was captured by an invading human force along with several other young Sangheili so young she doesn't even remember her birth name. The goal of the abduction was to create a sort of Spartan version of the Sangheili to go toe-to-toe with the invading force that could be controlled and guided, either by orders given in code or via a sort of neural interface. Similar to how Spartan-IIIs were given chemical augmentation to force their bodies to grow faster, the abducted Sangheili were given an injection as well. Of the dozens that were abducted, only a few handfuls survived. The planet that the research was being done on was raided by the Covenant before too much more could be done, and the surviving Sangheili youths were bundled into a ship and escaped with before the lab was destroyed.

They landed on Reach during the invasion. They were accosted by a force of Covenant as they headed for the lab, and those that survived were then stuck in place as human Marines arrived to "save" them. The Marines mistook the troupe as a group of undercover Sangheili abducting scientists and opened fire. The scientists protested all their hard work being killed but were unable to save those that failed to flee. It was a loss. They could replicate and improve the process, having ironed out some kinks, but there was still much to be done.

Akari (only knowing herself by an experiment number at that point) managed to be the swiftest of the Sangheili during the initial confrontation and managed to escape. She struggled to survive in an unknown area on an unknown planet, hiding from humans as well as aliens because she didn't know who was friend and who was foe. To her, everyone was an enemy that might kill her. Her anxiety and vigilance kept her alive, enabled her to successfully scavenge and bring food back to the ship- which she moved after several days of scoping out the surroundings. She had watched the pilot as they left the planet and as they headed for Reach. She was young and frightened, but her mind had been accelerated to an extent. She was able to make connections swiftly.

She ended up flying low and setting the ship down not too far from a mining settlement, banging it up to make it look abandoned so she wouldn't be bothered. She'd have stayed there until the glassing approached if it weren't for the swarm of Sangheili that appeared one day, all flooding towards one area behind the shipyards. She waited until movement stopped, until night fell, before creeping out to scavenge. Beggars couldn't be choosers, and the invading force of her own kind almost always had rations on them that she could use.

What she found was not just rations, but also a man in armor barely clinging to life.

Elesa: (34) Spartan-III, augmented human. Mjolnir Wrath armor, yellow with light blue accents. Quick thinker, excellent at adapting under pressure, will do anything to survive and return to her family. Headhunter class Spartan-III. Keeps the peace within the team, forcing everyone to stop and talk things through. Resilient and stoic. Alpha Company. A270

Skyla: (30) Human marine, no augmentations. ODST armor, black with dark blue accents. Confident in battle, adjusts quickly to a change in orders, reads the flow of battle well. Former ODST, rescued by Elesa during a mission and joined her fireteam several years later. Keeps the team's mood lifted. Optimistic and affectionately mocking.

Barry: (26) Spartan-III, augmented human. Standard Mjolnir armor, orange with white accents. Never backs down no matter the odds, vicious in a fight due to illegal genetic modification. Fiercely loves his new family. Competitive and impulsive. Gamma Company. G044.

Rei: (20) Human marine, no augmentations. Standard marine armor, stamped with the Spartan signs of his team. Keeps the Spartans grounded, deadshot, excellent providing backup and cover fire. Became friends with Barry during several missions and was requested to join the team with him. Uncertain and soft-hearted.

Lucas: Barry's AI, no augmentations. Formerly called Dia. Resembles Rei in civvies. Keeps track of hostiles and surroundings at all times, constantly checking ammo and advising battle strategies. Provides Barry with his necessary injections to keep him calm. Lazy and easy-going.

Akari: (15) Augmented Sangheili. Doesn't recall her former name. Accord harness, navy blue with dark red accents. Excellent at scouting, skilled at recon and intelligence gathering. Fully grown due to illegal augmentation. Observant and enthusiastic.

Listening to the halo reach soundtrack at work and thinking of spartan Ingo again 🥰🥰🥰

Either he and Emmet separated for Ingo to join the Noble team OR they were both recruited, with Ingo becoming Noble 6 and Emmet Noble 7.

But gaaahhhhh Noble 6 Ingo nervous because he and Emmet have been a team for so long, and he's assigned to noble team alone because they only need one member and he fits what they're looking for.

Ingo is uncertain about where he stands with Noble team, with Carter telling him he can't rely on his brother to have his back only, that he can't go hunting down Emmet when he's in trouble. He has to stay with the team now, and Ingo isn't sure he can. But he stays and gradually begins to fit in. He and Emile grate on each other, but he gets along well with Kat and Jorge. He doesn't see Jun much but when they do interact it's polite. Carter is pleased with how he's fitting in, even if he's talking to Emmet almost every day. There are things he has to dance around, missions they can no longer share, and it's hard because they've never had to keep secrets from each other.

And then the Covenant land on Reach, and all Ingo can tell Emmet at first is that something's gone wrong. And then he's storming a beach with the team, trying to remember when the last time he spoke to Emmet was, promising himself he'll do it as soon as he's back to base. Except then he's in space with Jorge, breaching a Covenant cruiser, and then Jorge is pushing him out of an airlock and everything is happening so fast.

He's creeping through the night with Jun, trying to save civilians, desperately firing at Hunters to try and keep them safe. He goes through all of Reach, seeing his team die and sacrifice themselves so that one, just one, of them might make it. Might pass on what needs to get to the right hands.

And he gets to the ship, and he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he and Emile - bonded slightly after watching Carter take out the scarab for them - might make it. Might be able to reuine with Emmet, with Jun, to mourn the losses of their team, their family, might be able to allow his grief an outlet- and then Emile is stabbed from behind, he's down, and there is no one else that can protect the ship. There is only Ingo. He swallows his nerves and turns around, heads for where Emile was just slain. He takes out the Elites - not without heavy injury - and clears the skies.

And then he is alone.

He's never been alone in his life. There was always Emmet or Elesa, and then there was Noble team. Even when Jorge sacrificed himself he wasn't alone because his team was waiting for him. But now there is no one but Ingo.

And the Elites are coming for him, and there is no escape.

You know, for all of the trauma Ingo goes through as Noble Six and being the sole survivor (apart from Jun I think), thinking that he's alone, maybe suffering temporary amnesia maybe not...

But Emmet, too. Being on separate teams from his brother for the first time. Not being on Reach when the Covenant attacks. Only being able to hear about what's happening, getting updates through the news and chatter of other Spartans. Hearing about Jorge sacrificing himself, losing contact with the others. He has no idea if Ingo's alright or not, if he's alive or not.

And then Reach gets completely taken over by the Covenant. It gets glassed. And Emmet has no choice but to believe the Covenant killed his brother, that Ingo died - sacrificing himself - for the people on Reach. He lives for years completely angry at the Covenant, taking out his opponents mercilessly, thinking of Ingo with each shot he takes.

And then Ingo shows up on a comms channel, and when they go to pick him up he's got his arm around a small Elite- the kind of alien that Emmet's been killing without hesitation for years. And he says she's his daughter, and that they saved each other, and any thought Emmet had of maybe booting the thing out an airlock... He has to set aside.

Me, thinking about Assassin's Creed submas and the other games I loved as a teenager: what if Spartan Ingo and his adopted Sangheili/Elite daughter Akari

Ingo and his 7' alien child. She hides behind him at any sign of conflict. She only attacks when her family is threatened.

He got stranded on a planet after a failed mission, spending several years thinking he was alone until she showed up. Akari's parents had been killing in the intitial attack when she was young, so she sees this person in armor approaching and thinks she's about to get killed and because she wasn't raised as Sangheili children normally are she runs away instead of trying to attack. When Ingo gets found again the military tries to take Akari (who is almost of height with Ingo at that age) to mold her into their own Elite soldier and Ingo (plus Emmet & Elesa) are like "Fuck No, she's a Baby, leave her alone"

Laventon ends up being her doctor because he does a ton of research on the members of the Covenant beyond 'know their weak points' so he can actually ensure she's healthy. Cyllene does not trust Akari at first, thinking it's a new tactic, but the easily-spooked Sangheili makes an impression on her. Drayden pretends he's impassive towards the kid but when she gets excited that he can pick her up and therefore runs to him whenever she sees him to be lifted... he melts. Skyla sneaks her away from her adopted family to teach her how to fly.

Akari meeting the Arbiter and being just so tickled that there's someone else like her around. John 117 giving Ingo tips on how to keep her healthy and safe, stuff he picked up from being around the Arbiter. Arbiter uncertainly teaching Akari the games of his youth so she has some form of connection to their homeworks that isn't negative.

I absolutely can't draw this but I just think it's fun and silly 😂

The more I play Reach the more I like the idea of Ingo being Noble Six and seeing all of his team dying and sacrifice themselves, somehow surviving what happens on Reach (still haven't finished!), and by the time he sees the baby Sangheili Akari he's almost desperate for company. And she tries to run when she sees him, doesn't try to attack at all, and they start with an unsteady truce of sharing space, and then food, and then maybe Ingo gets sick or injured and feverish and when he wakes up the little Sangheili is sleeping next to him and he's got water and food nearby and his injury is (badly) patched up and he's like

oh, okay. This is okay.

FSDFLADS LOVE IS STORED IN THE MATCHING!!!! I know what you mean by matching armor but frankly now I'm just imagining this big ol Elite in her own Spartan armor fjalkfdsa (and thinking of a Covenant Sangheili cornering her and gloating about how 'no human can kill them' and she pulls off her helmet and says 'I AM NO HUMAN' and murks them)

Akari following Ingo around the ship when they're recovered like a frightened puppy, and people are freaking out seeing what they think is a nearly full-grown enemy infiltrating them and frankly Ingo informing them that she's NOT full grown and has many many years left until she's an adult (she still has the baby Sangheili protective scales- Ingo actually cries when she starts shedding them) only makes things WORSE.

I imagine this is around the time the Arbiter joined the ranks, so there's a lot of stink-eyes going around at Akari because baby Sangheili?? Might be a new sort of trap >:| Akari just wants to make sure her dad (and new uncle and new aunt and new great uncle and new friends) are all safe. Rei is a relatively young Spartan and one of a handful who doesn't think twice to welcome a kid onto the ship. If Akari isn't with Ingo, Emmet, Elesa, Drayden, or Laventon- she's with Rei. Because he's still pretty young himself they tend to get into mischief :)

Akari DOES end up in battle because 1. she honestly doesn't feel safe on the ship when the rest of her family gets deployed and will either hide in their rooms or with Laventon until they return, sometimes not eating because she's afraid to show herself and 2. she wants to be able to protect them herself. She trains hard with Rei (when they're not screwing around) and even Cyllene and Zisu (Zisu is in charge of the Spartan's training) until they allow her out. It's after the last of her baby scales have shed, so she's the human equivalent of a tween/teen and Ingo is ABSOLUTELY against his (giant alien) daughter going out into battle, but Emmet points out she either goes with them or with another troop and who's going to watch her back and keep her safe better, her family or the people who've been side-eyeing her since she was a youngling?

Okay I am diving deeper into the Halo au purely because I've been playing Reach. And I'm gonna argue something for funsies.

Yes, Reach was glassed

However! Your helmet? Survives. It survives the glassing. I am taking this to mean that while every square inch of a planet is supposed to be glassed, Reach was not. Mostly glassed, yes, but not completely. Although Reach fell, I am going to happily claim that for my own purposes, the UNSC was able to give them enough hell that only a majority glassing could be achieved. Enough to say "yes, this planet was fully glassed" BUT, c'mon. How many of them are going down to examine it?

With how many Elites Noble Six Ingo took out, he didn't die. They certainly thought they killed him, and he appeared dead, but they had to get off the planet before the were glassed. He was down, he was out, and they left him. I'm thinking some scientists - similar to Halsey - decided to stay behind and found Ingo before the glassing could start. They stuck him in a cryo-chamber of a sort in order to heal him and then, for whatever reason, vanished.

Reach falls in 2552 and you know what happens in 2553, according to the official timeline? A survey team comes down! Know who was in that survey team in my au? Emmet and Elesa! Hence they find Ingo's helmet and the video. Due to the damage they don't see that te Spartan was pulled to safety by scientists. They leave believing that he fell with Reach.

Delightfully, I am finding that the war actually ends in 2553- not long after Reach falls. I am still figuring out this timeline though. This means, potentially, that by the time Ingo and Akari are found and recovered the war is over. Ingo believes he died in the war and when he wakes up there is no war. Is this heaven or hell?

Of course, I still want battles so I'm going to say there are small forces who are still fighting. Not well, not making progress, but they're still on the side of the Prophets and require Spartans to handle them.

😂 halo: reach is a direct precursor to the rest of the halo franchise. You get to customize your Spartan, only referred to as 'Noble Six/Six' because you're filling the sixth spot on the Noble team. Throughout the game the rest of the time dies, except for Jun I think?, and Six ends up giving the humans time to escape but ultimately ends up dying as well. The opening shot of Reach is actually Six's helmet with a gunshot through the visor. I haven't played/finished Reach in years, so I can't remember how it ends exactly except that the covenant end up taking over Reach. There are a bunch of memes about getting glassed on Reach, though, so I'm gonna have to finish the game and see if I can finagle Ingo as Noble Six or do something else 😂

I mean, too, I don't know how a baby Sangheili would get on Reach either for Ingo to accidentally find and they take each other in but... Obviously, I use canon as nothing more than donation material that I play with however I want.

So I KNOW noble six is supposed to have died on reach and I haven't finished the game yet so I don't remember how it ends (except the glassed on reach memes) but hear me out:

I’M FUCKIN CACKLING I WAS JUST PLAYING A BIT OF REACH (and i did so good, i only played for an hour!!! but also my head is a little hurty and my eyes too so. i am taking care of myself) AND THERE WAS ONE MISSION WHERE I HAD TO GET PAST FOUR HUNTERS

who’s only WEAK SPOT is on their BACK. That bigass gun on their right arm will kill you in one shot, and they can also kill you by smacking your ass with that honkin’ fuckoff shield on their left arm! they’re not too much of a pain on co-op but I was struggling by myself. I killed one, thought I had two left, TURNED OUT THERE WERE THREE LEFT, so I just.

Ran up the stairs. Destroyed the jammer, dodged the hunter at the top, and hightailed it out.

Of course, I achieved the checkpoint so the cue said “we’ve got it from here” and I’m sprinting out of there like mf, you have three hunters left in here, you couldn’t take out one!

But I still left cause fuck that noise! They said they could handle it and I sure as shit didn’t want to!

i will say, with how much halo reach I have been playing, I am very tempted to make a spartan ingo & emmet attempt as well as sangheili akari. Considering sangheili rei? I do like bby spartan rei seeing bby sangheili akari and going “yes!! another baby!!” and just immediately taking to her. that’s his 7′ tall alien bestie!!! is elesa a spartan as well? maybe. skyla isn’t, though. i don’t think drayden’s a spartan either, or perhaps he’s a spartan from a previous generation,,, dunno yet!!

but i’ve been playing so much reach, having so many emotions, that i am staring at the armor going “okay, how do i draw that. how do i draw that. the elites- how do i draw them. i need to figure it out.”

So tempted to draw all of the Akari's I've (tortured) developed in one place. FaW Akari standing awkwardly in the corner listening to JtR Akari bitch about Emmet. Piece of Eden Akari and Sangheili Akari trying to get Zoroakari, who is talking with God Fragment Akarei, to join them in some game. Exp Akari is probably biting someone's ankles or stretching to claim she's the scariest one. PHM Akari is probably trying to show off a scar or two until someone calls her out on how many times she's passed out. Arms Outstretched Akari is swapping between sitting in a corner and just touching ANY of the other Akaris (she's touch starved as fuck). God Fragment Akarei offers to universe hop to AO Akari's verse and beat the shit out of their Arceus. Niche Fic Akari is ensuring everyone has food and drink and is comfortable.
