ST PETER'S LANE STREET STILL HOSTS SOME STREET ART
St. Peter's Lane had gained a reputation as an open-air canvas for street artists and one could expect find vibrant murals, stencils, and other forms of street art adorning its walls, making it an interesting spot for photography enthusiasts
I THOUGHT THAT I HAD MADE AN ERROR BY REFERRING TO IT AS CABRA PARK LANE IN THE PAST It’s a small lane connecting Cabra Park and St. Peter’s Road and it is situated in Phibsborough which is frequently described as a vibrant neighbourhood on Dublin’s Northside. Previously known as Cabra Park Lane. The recent name change to St. Peter’s Lane is a reference to the nearby St. Peter’s Church, a…

Is Samyang Launching A New Lens for Canon RF Mount?
Canon has recently been warming up to the idea of third-party lenses for their cameras. We aren’t sure how this change of thoughts, but it is a thing. For instance, Sigma announced two RF lenses, albeit for the ASP-C mount: EOS R7, a 10-18 mm f2.8 DC DN, or an 18-50 mm f2.8 DC DN. The company states that as the RF-S lineup does not have ‘expert’ lenses, Sigma hopes to fill that void. Now, it…

Can you please ask Brian what camera, lens and film he uses to shoot the eclipse?
This is a characteristically late response, but I'd love to get into it. I got into film photography by picking my dad's childhood brownie hawkeye off of a shelf and ever since then i've stayed pretty cheap with the hobby. I got a really good deal on a Kiev-80 a couple years ago. For those who don't know, its a 50 year old soviet camera made as an imitation of a Hasselblad (the camera we took to the moon). It's a medium format camera, so focal lengths work a little different than they do in 35mm
Medium format cameras like this take pictures that are 60mm by 60mm. Your typical 35mm camera takes 36mm by 24mm frames, so the added film sixe here means generally everything has to get bigger. The lenses i've gotten for this camera all have massive cases and can be carried with their own separate strap. The lens used for the eclipse is just... so big. oh my god. it's a mess. It's a Tair-33, with a minimum f stop of 4.5 and a focal length of 300mm (equivalent to 165mm on 35)
This model of the lens has very fun, characteristic stripes, the aperture control is all the way at the front, and easy to use. Focusing, however is slow, as the weight of everything creates quite a bit of friction. You can get one of these for about $80 bucks. Now 300mm here is not a great magnifier, so I also got a (faulty) accessory to extend the focus, bringing the lens to 600mm (330mm equivalent in 35). It also makes this camera, all put together, into The Largest Object of All Time.
squash and butter for scale
To see the difference between 300mm and 600mm, check out these photos of the regular, non-eclipsed sun at both lengths
You're probably wondering why these pictures look so weird. these lenses are don't have very effective coatings. you wouldn't believe the processes that go into coating your glasses, your camera lenses, your phone lenses. The easiest kind of picture to take is one where your subject is lit by a souce that is behind the photographer. things get complicated with backlight, creating ghosting and glare as seen above. the light bounces between the glass elements (and the dark filter used to photograph the sun is also glass, complicating it further). taking a direct photo of a light (especially the fucking SUN) leads to some pretty crazy unpredictable variables.
My camera has recently taken on a new malady too, where at low speeds, the shutter (which in this camera is a huge metal curtain sticks at the edge without totally closing. It causes these stripes at the edge of the picture. This can be frustrating if i forget, but I like having the issue. If i want a picture to look normal, to plan it out, to totally control it, I have a digital camera for that. I got into this film stuff for the eccentricities.
For the regular sun photos, I think I was shooting on Ilford FP4, which i think i stand developed in rodinal. At the eclipse, I only got through one roll of film, becasue the cloud cover was brutal, but i took those pictures on Kodak Tri-x 400 (developed normally in D-76). I did it all in Black and white because, in general, b&w negatives are pretty generous with mistakes. All the guides i could fine for solar photography were understandably written with digital cameras in mind, so I couldn't be totally sure about my math (as the camera is totally manual) or even my eye safety (as I'm using a viewfinder; my vision seems fine a month later)
the actual iris on this lens is right up in front. Tightening the aperture, especially when the extender is attached, leads to a vignetting issue, turning your pictures into a circle
once totality hits, the light changes dramatically. you can stare straght at it without glasses and not have to worry about damaging your eyes for those short minutes. so i didn't even bother with film at that stage. I just pulled out my DSLR with a cheap 500mm Samyang mirror lens made for pentax. It's very compact and very, VERY shitty. Shallow focus, really dark, ugly out-of-focus elements, focuses past inifinity, i love it. only got a couple pictures that way, and then put the camera down and enjoyed the experience

What lenses do you use for photography? Got a favourite?
I'm actually rebuilding my lens collection at the moment. I sold all but one lens years ago in a very depressive state and I have been regretting it as I've begun taking photos again.
So I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I would need to do the kinds of photography I enjoy most.
I do a lot of product or still life photography which requires a lot of detail. Especially when I get into the close up and macro realm. So I have been considering doing all primes rather than zooms, since those tend to be sharper at lower price points. Sharp zoom lenses can get crazy expensive.
My first lens that a lovely follower gifted me was the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens. This will be my primary portrait lens. And I can throw some extension tubes on to get some near macro shots.
I also have a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens. This is probably my favorite lens of all time. I call it my puppy lens. It was primarily what I used to capture photos of Otis. It only works on APS-C bodies, so if I upgrade to a full frame camera, I will have to replace it. Which I have mixed feelings about. It covers the 28-56mm range on a full frame body.
I want a wide lens for landscapes, so I was considering the Samyang 14mm F2.8.
And I want a proper macro lens at some point, and I'd like to have a more tele portrait lens, so the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 Art Macro lens could pull double duty.
Both are pretty affordable, especially used.
That would probably be all I need, but if I ever get my disability settlement figured out, I might look into a telephoto lens and maybe something in the 24mm range to fill in the gap between the 14mm and 50mm.
And if I ever come into a lot of money, I'd probably get the Sony A7R V with the holy trinity zooms. 16-35, 24-70, and 70-200.
Plus a macro lens... obviously. Laowa just released a macro lens kit that basically takes microscope objectives and mounts them on a camera. Those would be nuts to play with.
My 2 paragraph rule has gone completely off the rails.

Projeto Fotográfico
Fotografia de Moda / Editorial de Moda
Para este projeto estou interessado em criar uma série fotográfica sobre moda;
É um estilo fotográfico que tenho bastante interesse em aprender mais sobre, e que aprecio bastante quando o realizo;
O ambiente em que pensei fotografar é na rua, ou seja, juntar a streetphotography com fashionphotography;
(Imagens do Pinterest)
Algumas referências nas quais me quero inspirar para este projeto, onde o modelo está vestido de uma forma mais "formal"
Interesse em usar e explorar a Fish Eye lens para ver os resultados da distorção das imagens.
Referência Autoral
@Linusandhiscamera
Cenários: Exterior; Seca do bacalhau
Modelo: Masculino
SEGUNDA SESSÃO.
Objetivos:
Utilizar uma paisagem única e interessante.
Utilizar a mala como principal adereço.
Uso de tons quentes.
Realçar o blazer utilizado.
Sinopse:
Modelo: Masculino
TERCEIRA SESSÃO. Final?

THE INTERIOR OF ST PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN RINGSEND
I entered into this church from Thorncastle Street which features a complex of flats designed by Herbert G Simms.
16 AUGUST 2023 I entered into this church from Thorncastle Street which features a complex of flats designed by Herbert G Simms. There were two people inside but they immediately left which is a pity because I do not like disturbing people at prayer. The name Thorncastle dates back to the 1200s, when the Fitzwilliams granted land to their ally, Walter de Ridelford the Lord of Bray. On this…

Analog Detox: Samyang/Rokinon Remaster Slim -32mm f/2.8.
I have been on a film burning analog tear with a recent acquisition. Things got out of hand with the last roll as I just started snapping pics of any and everything with little care. I will go back to it, but it was definitely time to take a break. What better tool to pivot to than the Samyang/Rokinon Remaster Slim kit. I chose the 32mm lens module. I like the 28mm and 21mm modules also, but the…

Proposals
The Silhouettes of New York project seeks to capture the diverse silhouettes of individuals seamlessly blending into New York’s urban landscape through black-and-white photography, drawing inspiration from Elliott Erwitt’s unique perspective and style. By focusing on contrast and harmony between subjects and the city, this work aims to convey the vibrant energy of New York in a visually striking way. The project will culminate in five black-and-white prints on 8 x 12 matte paper, prepared for submission to an artist open call for exhibition.
Each week, I will spend at least one full day—Friday, Saturday, or Sunday—capturing silhouettes across New York’s streets and interior spaces, using changing natural light to enhance contrast and shadow. With the Sony A7 III and Samyang 35-150mm f/2-2.8 AF lens, I have the flexibility to frame subjects and control depth of field, achieving a seamless blend with the urban backdrop. Final edits in Adobe Lightroom Classic will refine black-and-white tones, while research on lighting conditions and Elliott Erwitt’s style will inform the project’s visual approach.
New York, with its diverse backgrounds, reveals countless fleeting moments in the everyday lives of its people. This project aims to capture these subtle details, encouraging viewers to connect with unfamiliar lives and foster greater understanding. Moving forward, I plan to continue this silhouette approach in Seoul, drawing on my experiences in New York to capture Seoul’s unique essence in ways I hadn’t previously perceived.
