I started this a few weeks ago when Roads and I first discussed what we wanted to do for our @goodomensafterdark Pillow Fight Poetry collab on "fire," but it took a bit of a turn for the angsty, so I tabled it.

This poem traces Aziraphale and Crowley's story, but it's also my reminder to myself in dark times that a spark can become a flame to light the way. And that, in the wise words of Samwise Gamgee and his gaffer before him: "Where there's life, there's hope." Excerpt:

In formless sky you flew, and I knew not then what to call this pow’r I saw in you: the will, the passion most of all, the spark alight in eyes so fresh, so young, so new and bright.

What radicalized you?

Samwise Gamgee, when Frodo asked him what they were holding on to and Sam replied “That there is some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.”

Maybe what radicalized me is hearing stories of empathy and compassion since I was a child and maybe what’s radical about me is that I don’t think empathy and compassion are radical at all.

So yesterday as I was peacefully reading before sleep ( LOTR : two towers, a 1st time read for me ) I had to stop mid chapter, switch on my phone and tweet ( actually I posted on bluesky ) what I was reading because... WHAT DO YOU MEAN I READ SAMWISE BEING AWFULLY IN LOVE WITH FRODO, from his own pov, BRO IS DOWN BAD FR

I wish I had the orignal version because I want to know how Tolkien wrote that scene ( I read it in french ) basically it went like this : Sam watching frodo sleep, Sam describing frodo, Sam saying he's beautiful, Sam saying there's a light kindoff emanating from frodo, Sam saying it's strange that we can see the light, but he do love him, no master what ( not sure this is the ring translation from the translation im reading )

I did not recover from this, the love was so blatant
