My very definitely insane but perhaps accurate theory on Samuel (né William) Mulder's paternity.
(sorry but william scully doesnt have the same ring to it lalala)
okay so we know from the first ep in s6 that humanity has some latent alien DNA, and some people have that DNA activated? turned on? idk ykwim. Think gibson and that stigmata boy from air bud. My theory on mulder and scully is as follows:
Mulder has latent alien dna stronger than most people.
Scully (and her family possibly just the female members) has latent alien dna stronger than most people and also mulder.
Mulder's symptoms: he has a BA in psych from Oxford but his intuition on the causes of cases and perp motivations and [] are almost certainly due to the fact he has a connection with them, in some way mind reading adjacent. Like he gets a feeling in his stomach about what the situation is and goes with what he and scully would call intuition. there are plenty of funny as hell memes on this site about this. So it follows easily that when his DNA gets activated he is overwhelmed by everyones thoughts, Buffy Summers in Earshot style.
Scully's symptoms: she sees dead people... lol but honestly she sees her dad in season 1, she sees the dead multiple times in Elegy and it's not an omen of death bc she lived. She sees her daughter multiple times. She also sees a legit angel, and a demon or devil however you want to look at it, and I would argue an alien spirit? (old dude in amor fati) who maybe has been on earth waiting for the "chosen one" since his space ship landed in the garden of eden... (lol thats my most favorite of all my unhinged head canons)
Im gonna add the other scully's too
Maggie: she has prophetic dreams or feelings about things that are going wrong
Missy: girl is straight up tied into other realities and knows it and embraces it. I find it such good characterisation how her family treats this, that scully is shown to be scared of this and completely ignores the fact she is also tied into this ability.
----
onto the paternity...
My unorthodox theory is that CSM had nothing to do with healing scully. Or magically giving her ovum out of nothing. En ami could technically be lifted right out, bc ew assault, or just disregard or believe csm was lying about the extra stuff cc retconned in the revival.
Enter the alien spaceship in cote d'ivore from the amor fati trilogy...
so Mulder touched an etching of a part of the ship and had his shit rocked (alien DNA activated) which begs the question, what would happen to Scully being that she actually touched the actual ship?
my theory? The ship has some sort of mystical power. If I was super spiritual or Melissa Scully id argue the ship gives what you deserve. In amor fati we see it bring back to life a bag of shrimps, zombify a dead man, and boil people like ocean soup.
Why then would we not assume scully touching the ship didn’t activate her very obvious not really latent, alien DNA? And what did she deserve? oh the world, but also to be healed. of cancer, and whatever those men did to her reproductive system.
Now you might say well mulder got superpowers but scully didnt? you said she was more powerful than mulder... and to that dear reader, I submit she did get an extra alien ability. We see the alien bounty hunter have all kinds of abilities, including healing mulders mother on her deathbed. I think Scully got that ability in addition to her old seeing ghosts thing.
The evidence? So, mulder on his deathbed, metal halo of faux thorns is dying of overactive alien abilities, his brain juices or something were transferred into that weird old man, but even I, a layman has trouble understanding how this would cure him of his overactive alien abilities. unless every bit of his Cerebrospinal fluid had been drained, which he'd actually probably just die, there is no way that surgery cured him of anything.
Enter Scully and the literal fairytale-esque tear on his face that wakes him from his sleeping-beauty slumber, and seemingly cures him all in one go. I posit Scully is now a healer on top of her ghostly abilities. but being terrified of the paranormal within her and possibly not knowing how to work them mulder is her only one, thus far.
So yeah, the ship cured her infertility and activated more latent alien abilities in her DNA, and she's so highly evolved she doesn't have the poor reaction to it that mulder does. Samuel Mulder or whatever you want to call him was their biological child with alien superpowers because both of them had activated alien abilities when they conceived him.
Anyway CSM has never been anything but pathetically inconsequential to me. So much so I think hes the one who is infertile. I could probably rant about it, but will spare you that for now... all I'll say is senator matheson is who mulders dad will always be to me. They look SO similar, the jawlines? Hello?
And so i rest my case.

MSR Fic Tropes Part III
Mulder became a fan of the Yankees to spite his Red Sox loving father (despite the latter showing no marked canonical interest in baseball.)
Scully is pink-cheeked when she gets out of the shower.
During the cancer arc, Mulder frequently sneaks into Scully’s motel room to watch her sleep.
During the cancer arc, Scully will have a horrific nosebleed that either causes her to faint (if she's standing) or to scream out for Mulder during a nightmare (if she's lying down.)
Scully and Mulder sneak into each other's motel rooms (which are always connected) after nightmares. They end up sharing the bed.
If Scully is high, she will usually admit her feelings for Mulder in some gooey way, shape, or form. He believes her, but lets it slide.
If Mulder is high, he will end up saying he loves Scully. She will brush it aside, doubting that he actually does.
Scully prefers non-greasy meals.
Mulder prefers junk food.
Scully loves dogs, if anything. Mulder loves fish and chickens.
Mulder and Scully want at least one more child (if not more.)
If Mulder had a child he didn't know about, she will always be a girl.
If William is not named William, then he is either called Liam, Benjamin, or a similar Biblical honorific (Samuel, Adam, etc.) The latter is most used in fics where Mulder converts to Judaism.
Maggie is either an unrepentant shipper or hates Mulder's guts.
Bill Scully, Jr. will always start a physical fight with Mulder.
Matthew will always like Mulder; and this will either make Bill cool his jets-- if Mulder ends up saving Matthew-- or hate his sister's partner even more.
Tara Scully will always root for Mulder and her sister-in-law.
Everyone thinks it's a mystery how Bill and Tara ended up together.
Charlie's wife is smart and cool and will stand up to Bill and ask Scully the hard, personal questions in an easy, approachable way.
Charlie's kids are rambunctious and love "Uncle Fox."
If Skinner and Maggie end up together, it's usually because his agents invited him to a Scully family party (or because they set him up on a blind date.)
If Skinner ends up with Arlene/Kim Cook, the romance is usually explored through her POV.
Krycek isn't truly dead; and Marita somehow always finds him.
If Marita had a child, it, too, would be sought after by the Syndicate (or wouldn't survive to birth.)
Diana Fowley either died not truly, wholly loving Mulder or survived and spent the rest of her life secretly protecting him and his family.

william’s last name in canon is mulder to me i will not be taking criticism there’s just no way scully didn’t have that picked out as his last name after mulder’s funeral, after skinner pointed out that her partner wasn’t the last mulder. and then there’s no reason to change it once mulder’s back especially because i think she would’ve gotten attached to it—and from the perspective of scully picking out the names beforehand to honor the mulders, it kinda makes sense that she chose william to honor mulder’s dad. like if they’d had a girl she would’ve named her teena. trying to give as much of the mulder family to the kid as possible (middle name samantha or samuel probably).

Nativity (2/2)
Chapter One
1110 words, read here on AO3
‘No, no, no, you’re not doing this to me now Scully. Hey, open your eyes, come on. You’re supposed to be immortal, dammit! Isn’t that what you always tell me? You can survive anything, so don’t fucking give up now!’ tears were streaming down his face, splashing onto the bare skin of his son and partner, ‘we waited so long for this, Scully. Please? Please, I can’t do this without you. You can’t fucking leave me.’
He could feel her slipping away as he bent over her, the baby screaming between them, and there was nothing he could do, because how could he comfort a child when he didn’t know how to comfort himself.
And then the baby went silent. And the phone rang.
His immediate instinct was to ignore it. Which is what he did until it went silent and he realised.
 The phone rang.
The phone was working again. He could call for help. And so he was up and dialling and screaming down the line for someone to help him, giving a panicked and incomprehensible summary of the situation before being told to stay on the line, that help was on its way.
~~~
She was empty. The familiar warmth that had been growing in her, the life that had tossed and turned within her small frame was gone. All that was left was an ache that held her whole body down.
And the beeping.
Christ, could someone stop that godforsaken beeping? She just wanted to sleep.
But she couldn’t. She was empty and she couldn’t do anything until she found her baby.
Bright lights assailed her as she cracked her eyes open. She’d been in the darkness for so long they stung, biting at the inside of her skull as she tried to bring something, anything into focus. Not having any such luck with the glare of the white ceiling she turned her head, found a figure in scrubs dosing by her bedside, and a bassinette beside them.
Her baby.
She was sitting up before she could even think about it, then grunting like she’d received a punch to the gut.
That was enough to jolt Mulder out of his sleep, and he was by her side in an instant, helping her back down, pressing a call button for a nurse, butterflying kisses across her face and brushing back her hair and telling her how much he loved her. Her voice cracked as she tried to ask about her baby and he thrust a cup of water in her face, nodded to the IVs in her arm, rambling on about dehydration and loss of blood.
‘William?’ she croaked after a sip of water, whilst he was taking a breath from a run-on sentence.
‘William?’ he cocked his head, rolled the name around his tongue a few times, before a light went off behind his eyes, ‘oh, the baby? Yeah, he’s great,’ he nodded, turning away for a moment. ‘He’s sleeping now. Do you want to-‘ she was nodding before he could even finish the sentence and he smiled, reaching into the clear-sided bassinette and lifting out their son, cradling him carefully to his chest and brushing his lips across his forehead before passing him over. ‘He’s a pretty chill kid. All the nurses say so. And he’s definitely going to break some hearts when we leave.’
‘He’s perfect,’ she breathed, brushing her thumb across his petal-soft parted lips.
Mulder nodded, perched on the side of the bed. ‘So... William?’
‘After our fathers. And his father. I named him months ago, when you were- well. I named him months ago. William Samuel for a boy, Samantha Melissa for a girl.’
‘Scully, you don’t-‘
‘I do. I do have to. These are the lives I was honouring. Yours, for the love you gave me, Samantha’s for the path I am on, Melissa’s for the determination she gave me and our fathers’ for the life they granted us,’ she sighed. ‘I named him when all that was left was him and me, and he’s keeping that name.’
‘Okay,’ he nodded, accepting. All he was going to say was that she didn’t have to name their son after his sister, not when she lost a sister also. ‘He’s Baby-Boy Scully at the moment, but they can change that.’
‘They’ll have to,’ she frowned, shaking her head, ‘for a start he’s Baby-Boy Mulder. Why didn’t you tell them that?’
‘Well, I- I didn’t want to assume, you know, we never talked about it or anything, and...it was kind of hectic, I mean, once they got your name you were whisked away from me and everyone just assumed I was Mr Scully and it didn’t seem the right time to correct them – I didn’t want them to stop me from seeing you or the baby or anything like-‘
‘Like the last time I was here. I understand,’ she nodded, smiled kindly and reached out her hand for his. ‘So,’ she took a breath as she rubbed a thumb over the back of his hand, ‘when can we get out of here?’
‘Ah...’
‘That doesn’t sound good.’
‘Well...’ he cringed, shied away slightly, ‘technically baby- William was discharged this morning. We have one big, strong, healthy baby boy. We’re just waiting for your Mom to bring us some clothes.’
‘What about me?’
‘The doctors want to keep you a little longer-‘
‘No, no I’m going home with you. I’m not-‘
‘Hey, hey, calm down,’ he soothed, moving closer to her, pressing his forehead to hers, ‘do you really think I’d let you out of my sight? We’re moving in here. I bribed a nurse into finding a cot for me to sleep on and letting us keep the bassinette whilst you’re in here. Clothes just mean we can take trips outside and down to the concourse without looking like I’m a doctor kidnapping a very adorable baby.’
‘Thank you,’ she murmured, kissing him before looking down at the stirring baby in her arms.
‘We’re expecting some visitors too. The three wise men should be coming, along with Reyes and Doggett. Skinner said he’d try and pop his head in if he’s out this way,’ Mulder watched as she stroked the soft smattering of ginger hair, traced tiny eyebrows, bopped a little nose that looked far to like his own, knowing that she hadn’t listened to a word he said.
‘Hi. Hi, Baby,’ she smiled as he gurgled, opened his big blue eyes.
‘He’s got your eyes, see?’
‘Mulder, all babies have blue eyes.’
‘Yeah, but he’s got your hair too.’
‘He’s got your lips.’
‘Maybe so,’ Mulder shrugged. Neither of them mentioned the nose.
They were safe. And happy. And that was all that mattered.
Season 9 never happened and Mulder didn't have to go on the run.
Scully stays on at the X Files for a few more months afterWilliam is born but she knows Doggett isn’t into it and she requests a transferto Quantico. Mulder is happy to stay at home with the baby – he’s a natural.She comes home often to find them both asleep on the couch – Mulder’s feet on thecoffee table and William wrapped in his UFO blanket, face down on his chest.
Eventually, Mulder opens his own boutique PI agency, investigatingparanormal and unusual activity – Reynard Miller & Sons. “That’s very presumptuousof you, Mulder,” she says as he hangs the sign on the door. “My last case toldme I’d have three boys, Scully.” She grins. She hasn’t told him she’s pregnantagain yet. “What if they don’t want to follow you into the family business?” Hekisses her and she melts. “I’m pretty hard to resist.”
By the time Samuel is born, business is booming and prettysoon, he recruits a partner – Monica Reyes. Scully listens with her unbridledscepticism whenever she visits the office. “That woman’s aura was the wrongcolour,” Monica says. “I knew she was lying. I pulled the Five of Swords beforewe went into the house. The ultimate double cross card.”
When Samuel is walking and William is almost ready forpreschool they realise the apartment is too small. They go house-hunting everyweekend and every weekend they end up arguing about what kind of house theywant. She wants close in, clean lines and new, single storey, small, neat yard,double garage. He wants wild and rambling, out of town, a doer-upper, somethingwith a history. In the end, Monica goes out with them. “No, this one has ghostsin the back room – they’re not happy.” “No, this one is too sad, I smelled theodour of someone who’s spent too long being angry here.” “No, this one is justtoo…” Scully snaps and yells, “Dead on the inside? Haunted by poltergeists?Inhabited by cryptids? Full of aliens? A witch’s coven? A wizard’s lair?”Mulder steps between them. “I think you’ll find it’s an argument of wizards?”Scully and Reyes both look at him. “What?” “The collective noun for wizards isan argument.”
The last house they drive to is a long way out of town.There’s silence in the car. Monica is rubbing her temples. Mulder is flexing hisjaw. Scully is nauseous. They drive down the long gravel road and the roof ofthe house rises from the land, welcoming them. Monica hums, chants and pulls acard. The Four of Wands. “Happiness, completion,” she says and Mulder nods. “I’mnot buying a house based on a tarot divination,” Scully says. “The cards can’tpredict the future.” Monica casts an eye at Scully’s stomach as they walk upthe steps to the porch. “That card also means celebration, new beginnings,” Thehouse is unremarkable. The house is perfect. The future is settled.
Someday Your Child May Cry
Previously: Question | Preparations | Irrational | Confession | Collateral | Thoughtless | Interrupted
8. Recovering
Following their return from Antarctica, they’re both ordered to take a week’s medical leave. They’re meant to be resting and recovering from their trauma in their own homes, but predictably, Mulder has invaded Scully’s apartment within twenty-four hours, armed with more salvaged files, which he begs her to help him start re-organizing.
She’s sitting propped up in bed, glasses perched on the end of her nose, trying to bring some order to the chaos that has been dropped in front of her, while Mulder is sprawled by her feet like the world’s largest and most ungainly dog, combing through a file of his own. Lost in thought, he scans a list of names in front of him, victims of a long-dead serial killer, repeating their first names silently to himself.
“Hey, Scully?” he asks suddenly, putting the papers down and sitting up.
“Mmm?” She doesn’t look up from her own file, and for a moment, he hesitates. It’s maybe not the most sensitive of questions, just now, but... well, he’s curious, and he’s never been much good at ignoring his curiosity.
“Have you thought of names yet?” Now she does raise her eyes to his.
“Names?”
“Yeah, names. In case... you know...” He swallows. “In case the next round works.”
“Oh,” she says, dropping her gaze back into her lap. “I... honestly, I haven’t let myself think that far ahead, Mulder.”
“Why not?” She shifts uncomfortably against the headboard, and Mulder begins to regret asking the question, especially now, less than a week after learning that the first round of IVF didn’t take.
“Did you ever read any Steinbeck in high school, Mulder?” He frowns, taken aback at the sudden turn in the conversation.
“Sure, a little,” he says. “What, you want to name the kid after a Steinbeck character? Doesn’t seem like a good omen, Scully. None of them ever got much of a happy ending.” Scully chuckles softly.
“No, that’s not what I mean,” she says. “In one of Steinbeck’s books, The Pearl, the main character is in the process of prying open an oyster that has a pearl so large that its value could mean that he and his family will be wealthy beyond anything they could imagine. His wife, however, looks away as he’s opening the shell, because she believes that wanting something too much drives the luck away.” She blushes slightly and examines her hands, clasped atop the file. “Coming up with a list of names seems kind of like that. Like tempting fate.”
“Dana Katherine Scully,” says Mulder, delighted, “are you telling me that you’re holding off on picking out names because you’re being superstitious?” Her blush deepens, and she looks up at him through her lashes, head still ducked, biting her lip.
“I guess it’s a little ridiculous, isn’t it?” she says, and with a sigh, she sets the file aside. “There are names I like, of course, names I’ve heard through the years and thought, in an abstract way, that I might use them one day.” Mulder puts aside his own file and wriggles further up on the bed. His head’s not quite on the other pillow, but it’s pretty close, and for a moment, he expects Scully to object, but she doesn’t.
“Tell me,” he urges her. “I want to know what names you like.”
“Well... for a boy, I like Caleb,” she says. “And Jonah, Samuel, and David.”
“Big on the biblical names, huh?”
“Not on purpose,” says Scully, defensively. “I just like them, that’s all.” She bites her lip again. “And sometimes I’ve thought... maybe William.”
Mulder’s breath catches. William? As in, his father’s name? His own middle name? But then he remembers.
“Like your father,” he says.
“Well... yes,” Scully says, a slight crease appearing above her eyebrows. For a moment, he thinks she might be holding something back, but then her face smooths out and she continues. “But I feel like Bill would probably assume I was naming the baby after him, and his ego really doesn’t need the boost.”
“No, you’re probably right about that,” Mulder agrees, laughing. “And how about for a girl?”
“I like Elizabeth,” she says. “And Charlotte, and Claire. I used to really like Emma, but now, I feel like it’s... well, it’s too close to....” Her voice trails off, but Mulder doesn’t need her to finish the sentence. He nods. ”But if it’s a girl,” Scully continues, “her middle name will definitely be Margaret. For my mother.”
“She’d like that, I’m sure,” says Mulder.
“And have you bothered to ask her how she would feel about that?”
The sharp voice from the bedroom doorway makes both Mulder and Scully jump... and when he turns and sees Maggie Scully standing there, her arms crossed and her mouth set in a thin line, he scrambles off the bed so fast he sends files spilling onto the floor.
“Mom!” Scully looks horrified. “I had no idea you were coming by today!”
“I made some soup and I thought I’d bring it over,” Maggie says shortly. “I thought I would probably find Fox here, but I certainly never thought....” She looks pointedly at her daughter. “Dana, is there something that you and Fox would like to tell me?”
“Mom-”
“Are you pregnant?”
Scully’s face falls, her eyes filling with tears, and the only way Mulder keeps himself from rebuking Maggie for her callous question is by reminding himself that she doesn’t know she’s being callous.
“No, Mom, I’m not,” she says, her voice trembling. Mulder wants badly to go to her and put his arms around her, but he senses that this would not be the wisest course of action at the moment. Instead, he begins gathering up the fallen files and stacking them on Scully’s nightstand. Scully hands the papers she’s still holding to him. “Mulder, would you mind letting my mother and I talk? We can get back to this tomorrow, if you’re feeling up to it.”
“Sure, Scully,” he says. He wants badly to kiss her cheek, the way he’s taken to doing whenever they part, this past week, but somehow, it doesn’t seem like a good idea just now. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” He turns to Maggie. “Mrs. Scully, good to see you.”
“You as well, Fox,” she says, but she doesn’t sound as though she means it.
Maybe it makes him a coward, but right at this moment, Mulder feels nothing but relief to be escaping this room. This is not a conversation that he wants to be a part of.
-------------------------------
“So let me get all of this straight,” Maggie says. She’s sitting in the armchair across from Scully’s bed, her posture rigid, her arms still crossed over her chest. “First, you tell me last Christmas that you cannot have children. Then, days later, you tell me you already have a child, but you don’t know how it happened. Now, you’re telling me that maybe you can have children, because Fox... did you say he stole your ova from someone?”
“I don’t think you can call it stealing if he was just taking back what was mine,” Scully says dully. “But yes, that’s the gist of it.”
“And why did you say nothing about these ova at Christmas, when you told me that you couldn’t conceive?” asks Maggie.
“Because I didn’t know about them then,” says Scully. “The specialist that Mulder had taken them to told had him that they weren’t viable, and he didn’t want to give me more bad news when I was already using all my energy to fight my cancer.”
“But he kept them anyway?” asks Maggie, frowning. “Even though they weren’t viable?”
“Yeah,” says Scully softly, smiling down into her lap. “He did. He paid to have them stored for over a year, until he was ready to tell me about them. He knew I would want a second opinion.” It never fails to touch her, the way Mulder had refused to give up on the hopes he has for her. “He was right- I did.”
“Well, he certainly knows you well,” Maggie concedes. “And he’s agreed to... what, exactly? To father a child for you?”
“He’s agreed to be my donor,” Scully says. “We haven’t... we haven’t really worked anything out beyond that.”
“But he’ll be this baby’s father, Dana,” Maggie says.
“I don’t really know if he wants that, Mom,” says Scully. “I don’t know how involved he wants to be- if this works. And that’s a big ‘if.’“
 “What if he doesn’t want to be involved? What will you do then?” demands Maggie. “How could you possibly do this without deciding all of these things first, Dana?”
“Because, Mom,” Scully sighs, “I want to do it, one way or another. If he wants his involvement to end with his donation, it’s not going to change my decision. Even if he had said no to donating in the first place, I would have found an anonymous donor and gone ahead with it anyway.”
“But that would mean being a single mother, Dana,” Maggie protests. “Unwed, with a child, and a demanding job. And that’s not even getting into what the Church says about beginning a pregnancy this way.”
“I think I’ve made my feelings on the subject of the Church’s right to dictate what a woman does with her own body perfectly clear in the past,” says Scully coldly.
“Yes, you certainly have,” says Maggie, her lips pressed into a thin line. “Have you thought about any other options? What about adopting?”
“Mom,” sighs Scully, exasperated, “there is absolutely no way any adoption agency is going to consider placing a child with me. I’m a single woman in a high-risk job, a year into remission from what should have been terminal cancer. If I want to be a mother, this is the only option left to me.” She looks at Maggie pleadingly. “Don’t you want this for me, Mom? Wouldn’t you love having a grandchild living this close to you?” Maggie’s face softens.
“Of course I would, Dana,” she says. “And I know you well enough to know that you wouldn’t have decided to do this unless you were certain about it... and I have to say, if any of my children could handle being a single parent, it would be you.” She stands up from the armchair and crosses the room, sitting next to Scully on the bed. She puts her arm around Scully’s shoulder, and her daughter doesn’t hesitate to lean against her.
“I want this so badly, Mom,” says Scully, her voice cracking. “And this is the only way it can happen for me.”
“I know, Sweetheart,” says Maggie. She sighs. “And I have to believe, whatever the Church might say, that God would not have given you such a strong desire to be a mother if there wasn’t some way to make your wish a reality.” She strokes her daughter’s hair. “And if you do have a girl... I would be honored if her middle name was Margaret.”
AU — Season 4/5 | Redux II | What if Mulder had taken the rest of Scully’s ova with him in “Memento Mori”?
Maggie’s reading Moby Dick to her when Mulder arrives, freshly showered and shaved. He’s debated over and over whether or not to tell her what he’s here to say, but in the end, she deserves to know what happened to her. He knocks on the doorframe.
Scully’s whole face lights up from her bed when she sees him in stark contrast to the sickly pallor of her skin. “Mulder!” She outstretches her hand to him and he takes the seat opposite Maggie’s that he’s all but written his name on. Being on death’s doorstep has made Scully carefree.
“Morning,” he greets, pressing a kiss to her hand. Mulder thinks of courting someone like nobles did in the early 1800s—is that what he’s doing? Courting Scully on her deathbed? “Hello, Maggie.”
“It’s good to see you, too, Fox,” she says, not unkindly. “I’ll give you two some privacy.”
The room is silent for a little bit after the door closes and Scully reaches up with her hand to smooth her thumb across the furrowed skin between his brows. “What is it?”
Mulder takes a deep breath. “If you could have children, would you?” He meets her blue eyes.
“What?” She sits up slightly in the bed. “Mulder...”
“Please,” he says, and something in his voice must convince her to answer with a nod. Mulder nearly collapses inward with the weight of his emotions. “When you were getting your treatment in Allentown,” he tries, his voice breaking. He finds her hand again. “I did a lot of digging. And I...I found vials of your ova. I took vials of your ova. I didn’t tell you because you had enough on your mind without knowing that you’d be able to have children if not for the silent killer in your head.”
They’ve both got tears in their eyes now, and her hand is limp in his grasp. “I should’ve told you, but I didn’t and I’m sorry for that. I have them stored somewhere safe. I thought that if we were just able to find a cure...”
Tears are sliding down her cheeks now, her eyes a startling blue in the sunlight filtering in through the window. Neither of them say anything as they embrace for a few uncomfortable seconds, twisted as they are. As they pull away, Scully cups his face and kisses his forehead before sniffling.
“Mulder... I believe that you will find the answers to all of your questions.” Her thumbs rub back and forth across his cheeks. “That’s what I believe. I want...I want to believe that I’ll be there when you do. If you think there’s a cure for this, then look for it. For the both of us. Do what you think is right.”
He nuzzles her hand for a long moment before pressing a kiss to her palm. “You deserve the chance to have children, Scully. You deserve to live and laugh and love.”
“Yeah,” she whispers. “In case I don’t get the chance to—” She’s hindered by a large sob, but soldiers on. “—to ask you later, I want you to be the father of my children. I couldn’t do it with anyone else, Mulder. I love you too much, I’m so in love, I’ve been in love with you for years.” She’s full-on crying now, and sobs into Mulder’s shirt when he brings her close. “I don’t want to die...”
He rubs circles on his back, tear tracks on his face drying as his sadness is replaced by anger. “You won’t. I won’t let them kill you. I’m going to find a cure if I have to track down every sick member of that vile organization that did this to you. You’re going to be a mother. I promise.”
it occurred to me that you guys probably assumed that the Director Scully ficlet i wrote a while back was set like post-revival BUT IT’S NOT!!! 😄😄😄 i would never do that to my lovelies. it’s an AU. of course it is! i know you guys probably don’t care BUT: if you’ve ever seen my screenshots of the Scully-Mulder family in TS4, it’s sort of like that. they’ve got the five kids—Emily, William, Melissa, Samuel, and Margaret—and somewhere along the way Mulder became a stay-at-home dad before going into professorhood.
