Mission: make an app for phones that plays "Gangnam Style" when you tap the screen.

Outcome: More to learn for sure.

Okay, little bit of a doozy but let me know if you could follow this. Also let me know if I could have done this journal entry in an easier way or something.

Went to google, searched "genymotion" clicked the first link and downloaded the free trial.

Clicked the + at the top right corner, went with a Samsung Galaxy 3 emulator, clicked through all the options without changing anything. Clicked on the emulator to run it.

Googled "app inventor" clicked on the MIT app inventor link under that definition thing. Clicked "create apps!" Clicked thru all the nonsense and started with a blank session.

Under "user interface", clicked and dragged "button" to the phone screen.

Under "layout", clicked and dragged "horizontalarrangement" so that it snapped above the button. On the right, under "properties" and "appearance", changed both "alignhorizontal" and "alignvertical" to the "center" option.

Googled "Gangnam style", downloaded the first image that popped up on the browser.

On the right, clicked on "button 1" and under "image" I uploaded the Gangnam style picture. It was way too big for the screen, so I clicked on the "horizontalarrangement1" on the right and under "appearance" I changed the "height" and "width" options to "fill parent".

Clicked on "button1" and changed font size to 24, under "fonttypeface" I changed the font to monospace. Under "text" I wrote "Time Travel to 2012". I changed the font color to lime green for button text visibility.

I went back to my google search for "Gangnam style" and clicked on the first YouTube link that came up. I copied the URL for the Gangnam style music video and then googled "YouTube to mp3". I clicked the first link and pasted the URL into the box it tells you to paste it in. I closed the tabs it redirected me too and was careful to only click the blue download button when I finally got to that screen.

Back to the app inventor, on the left, under "media", I clicked "sound" and then dragged it to the phone. On the right, under "properties" and "behavior" in the "source" section, I tried to upload the MP3, but the file was too large.

I went to my files and right clicked on my MP3. I clicked "edit with Clipchamp". I cut the song down to about 30 seconds, but Clipchamp wouldn't let me just download the edited MP3, so I left it alone and googled "bandlab". Clicked on the first result.

Once I was at the audio editor, I imported my MP3 and dragged the ends of the wave form until only 30 seconds of the song were left. I downloaded the edited MP3 by clicking the three-bar icon on the top left of the screen and following the "download" menu.

Back at the app inventor, I placed the new MP3 in the aforementioned spot.

I navigated to the top of the screen, and in the top right corner I clicked "blocks" next to the "design" button. On the left, I clicked "button1" and dragged the top block into the work area. On the left again, I clicked "sound" and dragged the "callsound1.play" block to the work area, snapping it within the previous block.

At the top of the screen, under "build" I clicked "android app .apk" and then downloaded the file. I navigated back to my emulator and dragged the .apk from files, dropping it in the emulator to run it. It would not play the song past the first five seconds.

Back to the app inventor, I clicked on "design" in the top right corner and on the left clicked "sound" under "media". Then I clicked "sound" on the right just to be safe. "On the right under "behavior" and "minimuminterval" I raised the interval from 500 to 8000. This drastically lowered the volume when I tried to run the app again, but it did not extend the playtime. Idk what the heck happened there.

I then navigated back under "media" and dragged "player" to the phone, which made "player" appear under "sound" on the right. For "source" I put in my MP3.

Clicked "blocks" again on the top right and replaced "callsound1.start" with "callplayer1.start". This fixed my previous problem but made the audio incredibly loud and clippy when I tried to run the app in the emulator.

Back to the app inventor, I clicked "design" on the top right, clicked "player" below it, and set the volume to 25.

I ran this final version in the emulator, only to find that the playback speed of the song had been basically randomized. It was disappointing, but funny enough that I decided to quit while I was ahead.
