Visiting the Corona Arch With Dustin Jorgenson

Recently for his birthday, Dustin Jorgenson hiked into an area near Moab, Utah and went on a rope swing off of Corona Arch. This arch has been called the "world's largest rope swing", and it is a 140 foot tall arch that is made of natural sandstone in an area near Moab Utah. Dustin Jorgenson has some advice for those who are interested in doing the rope swing off of the Corona Arch.

The first thing you must know, according to Dustin Jorgenson, is that you will have to hike the 1.5 miles from the beginning of the hiking trail to get to the arch. This hike is not considered strenuous and should be easily accomplished by those who are moderately fit. Dustin Jorgenson has even seen children as young as five or six years old making the round trip with their parents. The round trip will take you approximately 2 hours to hike in and out. Dustin Jorgenson recommends that you always begin your hikes with enough water and a first aid kit. This hike will take you along a constructed trail and also sliprock. Dustin Jorgenson recommends that you wear good hiking shoes or tennis shoes for this trip. From the end of the trail, you are also able to see a portion of the Colorado River and a very large sliprock Canyon.

The arch is situated on land that is owned by the Bureau of Land Management and is not considered part of a national park, which is why it is legal to set up and use the rope swing on the arch. The swing that Dustin Jorgenson used was built by several experienced rock climbers who connected it to five anchors to various points in the arch. The freefall is roughly 130 feet – the rope catches you and you will swing around 10 feet above the ground and then will be shot back up another hundred feet. This was an experience of a lifetime for Dustin Jorgenson on his birthday.
