Samfro Week, Winter 2019!

Welcome to the second annual Samfro Week, this time for Winter 2019! For a full overview of what Samfro Week is, take a look at this post.

This coming week, we will be celebrating the Winter Solstice (and Yule in general). As such, this Samfro Week will run from Sunday, December 15th, to Saturday, December 21st, 2019. Late submissions will be accepted until December 25th, here on tumblr and archiveofourown.org.

The following prompt list contains a prompt for each day of the week, but you don’t have to follow any of them if you don’t want to.

I have listed the seven 'prompts’ for the week and one more that’s for freeform submissions and has no need to adhere to anything besides your own unbridled inspiration.

How it works is you claim as many or few of the prompts as you’d like from the list, and once your story is finished, you go to fulfill the claim. Once that’s done, your story is now in the overall Samfro Week Collection, the Subcollection for this specific Samfro Week (separated by season and year), and there’s going to be a note at the beginning of your story that mentions what prompt you answered.

If you’d like to answer the same prompt again, you need to have submitted your first claim for it already, but then are free to claim it again.

If you’re working with the prompt list, as an added 'hard mode’ you can strive to post your work on the prompt’s designated day, but that’s not necessary and as said before, late submissions are freely accepted until December 25th.

Welcome to the very first Samfro Week! 🎉🎂🎉

With the dawn of September 22nd, Samfro Week begins! This is a week-long event that runs four times a year to celebrate the marvelous relationship between Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings. This week we gather to celebrate Frodo's birthday, and all the lovely aspects of autumn.

Participation requires as little or as much as you want to give! There is a prompt list for each day of the week, but following it isn't necessary, and you can create whatever art, writing, or anything else to celebrate the week you'd like, wherever your inspiration takes you. The prompt list for this week, for those that are interested, is:

There were moments sometimes, in Bag End, where it felt as if he and Frodo were the only two hobbits in the Shire. It was as if the world had shrunk to the kitchen and the garden outside, and the making of bread, and their joined hands. Nothing else mattered.

Happy Yuletide!

With the Solstice passed and Christmas on the horizon, this Samfro Week draws to a close. Due to the business of our mods in real life this week didn’t go quite as smoothly as planned, but we have gotten some wonderful fic and art for the season!

The Collection for this Samfro Week (found here) will remain open until the end of Christmas, December 25th, for all late submissions. Following that, we’ll see you all next Season, where Samfro Week will run from Sunday, April 5th, to Saturday, April 11th, to celebrate Sam’s birthday!

Being the first week we've held this, there are probably going to be some bumps along the way, and going forward we'll work on identifying what they were, and smooth them out next Season.

One Week ends, another will begin!

Many thanks again to everyone who participated and made this first Samfro Week such a smashing success! We saw many lovely fanfics and poems grace the blog, as well as some very beautiful art.

Now that the deadline for AO3 submissions has passed, the Collection has been set to moderated (so you can still add bookmarks) and if you have a very late submission, we’ll probably still accept it. You can find the Collection here if you’d like to look at everything that was published!

With the final conclusion of this Week, we bid Frodo a last happy birthday, and as we ourselves enjoy the lovely autumn weather, we set our sights on the next Samfro Week!

The next Samfro Week will begin Sunday, December 15th, and run to Saturday, December 21st, to celebrate the Solstice and Yuletide Season.

With the close of Saturday, the official week of Samfro Week has drawn to a close! The AO3 archive will remain open until Wednesday, October 2nd, so if there’s something you still want to submit but haven’t had time to finish, you’ve still got the opportunity to put it up. You are also still welcome to give as an @seasonal-samfro for a signal boost to your content as well.
