the days droned on, longer than the stretch they kneaded into their supplies. with their luck, they'd near a rumored factory turned sanctuary near the edge of the city in four day's time, that's if luck still existed. samar doesn't believe in it anymore. This morning Israeli snipers shot and killed my two family friends in an attack on the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza. Nahida (Um Emad Anton) and Samar, mother and daughter, were walking to the Sisters’ Convent to use the only bathroom. One was killed as she tried to carry the other to safety. Their bodies remain strewn across the church courtyard. The water tanks and solar panels were also struck. We don’t know if they have enough water to survive. The Christian community in Gaza is on the verge of extinction. There are about 800 of us left, some sheltering in the Catholic church, some in the Orthodox church, and a few still in their homes in Gaza City. There are approximately 530 Christians inside the Holy Family, 60 per cent are women and children. My family has been sheltered there since St. Porphyrius Orthodox Church was bombed and my cousin was murdered. This is a targeted death campaign during the Christmas season on the world’s oldest Christian community. Earlier this morning, an Israeli tank fired on the Convent of the Sisters of Mother Theresa. The convent housed ~54 people with disabilities. The generator was destroyed, taking out electricity. Then two more shells were fired completely destroying the convent. Many of these people are now without the respirators they need to survive. "semi-clean water and a can of warm green beans. it's almost better than a five-star meal." humor etches at her mouth, but the friendly sarcasm barely dwindles. he's managed to lessen her pessimism, though. while they really didn't have to rely on one another to stay alive, his truthful nature was like a gem hidden underneath molten rock: rare. yet there grew a benefit to intruding his solitude, sticking by ben through the days and nights of monstrous groans that taunted their rest — they'd be able to watch each other's backs. samar laughs, dismissively throwing her hands to the side. "listen, i'm just mentally preparing us for the worse." as if it really needed to be said aloud. "i used to be skeleton digger, bone scraper..." she lets it sink in through a beat. "a paleontologist. not as exciting as jurassic park, though. full disclaimer. what about you?"

"What can I say? I know what I like. Or, well... Used to like. These days, I just feel grateful when I have a bottle full of semi-clean water." Ben gave a small shrug of his shoulders, glad that they had run into one another. He had become rather used to being alone, so much so that he had forgotten what it was like to have company. Samar was a good person, and she was becoming a good friend, although Ben tried his best to keep as distant as he could at first. Caring about someone in this world meant having something else to lose.

"You make it sound so appealing." A snort escaped him before he sighed. "So you never really told me what you did before shit hit the fan. Guess since we've got a decent walk ahead, might as well kill some time."

Not the first time Israel has deliberately attacked Gazan places of worship, Christian churches or otherwise. These are war crimes, and just inhumane behavior.

Miss Universe Philippines Eastern Samar 2023 National Costume: An Bulawanon nga Katbari ha Sinirangan.

The costume represents the harmony of the agricultural practices with the region, and features symbols of each of the municipalities of Eastern Samar. The costume is made mostly of natural fibers and materials, and was made with the participation of local students.

This was the winner of the 2023 Miss Universe Philippines Costume contest.
