(Spoiler Alert for 1917) [Content Warnings: Violence, Flashing Lights, Battlefield injuries and lacerations, sadness] Song: "Fireworks" by ‪@mitskileaks‬ Side note: This song always made me think of the mournful lament/painful nostalgia of the final member of some dead batallion who now struggles with PTSD. Therefore, 1917 served as a very fitting complement to the song. I think this is either my 5th or 6th Mitski edit at this point, and they're, like, never paired with something that one would really associate with Mitski. Huh. (Ignore the black particles at the third "1917" in the intro. I was trying something new and it was as clean as I could make it with the software that I was using.)

Do I want this???

Gosh, I would love a good biopic about The Beatles, especially because there is a lot to be told, and their friendship, as well as the way they shaped music making has to be celebrated.

However! There is also a lot that is confused and the many different povs, sources (even direct interviews) and biographies aren't exactly to be trusted that much.

We have this Magic Alex guy who is loved at the beginning, then hated somehow, some accounts don't even mention him.

Jealousy between John and Paul for what? To be BFFs? To make better music than the other? (McLennon truthers can have a field day with this one, but hey, we've all seen the Understanding Lennon/McCartney doc on youtube by breathless345, I get it)

Fifth Beatle Stu Sutcliffe? Fifth Beatle Brian Epstein? Fifth Beatle George Martin?

I don't think you could manage to tell the complete story of this group in one movie, or even four! I genuinely think MAYBE a series could be easier to navigate the many aspects of their history throughout the years.

But actually yeah, I would like to watch these, thanks.

Our guest this week, as we continue to celebrate 10 years of SKiM is star of stage and screen actor and comedian Chris Lamberth, host of The Mundane Festival podcast. While discussing TV, we fell down a J-Lo based rabbit hole then just actresses and cinema in general. Worums geht: Notlandung auf dem Flug in die USA

Der erste Eintrag nach Jahren beginnt leider etwas weniger schön. Nach drei Stunden Flug via der Condor Airlines merke ich, dass mit dem alten Paar in der SItzreihe hinter mir etwas nicht in Ordnung ist. Sie sind aus der Ukraine, erfahre ich später, und die Frau ist Diabetikerin. Am Ende stehen wir von 14-18 Uhr in Kelkiavik, Island, eine Tote wird aus dem Flieger getragen.

Der ursprünglich zwölfeinhalb Stunde lange Flug nahm eine Wendung, als die deutschen Stewardessen die Durchsagen machten:

"Befindet sich ein Arzt an Bord?"

"Spricht hier jemand Russisch?"

Wer auftaucht, ist ein Orthopäde, der nicht viel helfen kann, außer eine Sauerstoffflasche anzulegen und einen schwachen Puls zu attestieren. "I am out of my depth."

Neuerliche Durchsage: "Is there an emergency doctor on board? Medizinisches Personal?"

Eine Physiotherapeutin lässt sich kurz blicken, zieht aber wieder ab. Dann ein Neurologe (mit exzentrischer lockiger Haarpracht, Goth-Outfit und Bullring).

Der Russe, der übersetzt, sieht sehr besorgt aus, die Stewardessen, normalerweise die Menschen mit dem professionellsten Pokerface überhaupt, auch.

"Is she breathing??"

"Sollen wir in Reykjavik zwischenlanden?"

Noch bete ich: Nein, bitte nicht, ich muss, nachdem wir landen, meinen Campervan irgendwo in San Francisco abholen und 2 Stunden in der Rushhour rausfahren, bitte nicht, das ist eine inconvenience, ich verliere money, like I can't even, usw.. Sehr viel Besorgnis für die Betroffenen also, mea culpa.

Neurologe: "She stopped breathing."

Sie hieven die Frau sammend Sauerstoffflasche aus dem Sitz; sie hängt wie ein schwerer Sack in den Armen der beiden Mediziner. Sie tragen sie in die erste Reihe der Economy Class. Der Russe läuft mit Tränen in den Augen und einem Nackenkissen um den Hals hinterher. Der Partner der Frau weiß wohl nicht, was er machen soll. Bleibt sitzen, kruschelt mit seiner Serviette herum, steht dann grummelnd auf und läuft den sichtlich besorgten vorbeieilenden Flugbegleiterinnen nach, die die Medikamente der Frau dabei haben.

Dann höre ich ein stetes EKG-artiges Biepen. Nach 15 Minuten geht der Flieger in den Senkflug. Der Pilot gibt nun bekannt, dass wir notlanden müssen und entschuldigt sich für die Unannehmlichkeit. Irgendwann vor der Landung hat das Biepen aufgehört, aber ich weiß nicht genau wann.

Beim Landen sehe ich einen silbern leuchtenden Bogen aus Luft und vielleicht etwas anderem um den Flügel des Airbus, während wir nah über das Wasser sausen, die grauen Wolken wirbeln um uns; es ist, als würden wir Geschwindigkeit aufnehmen und gleich die Dimension wechseln (Hallo, Alptraumvision aus The Langoleers!), denn mein Magen rutscht gefühlt in die vorletzte Sitzreihe. Oder es sind die Geister, die zum Abholen ihresgleichen gekommen sind. Die Kleinkinder quengeln und schreien wieder, Eltern wispern beruhigend und schütteln die Rassel, als sei es ein spirituelles Ritual. Die zornigen Wellen des Atlantiks überschlagen sich im Wind. Ich werde es höchstwahrscheinlich heute nicht mehr zum Campingplatz schaffen, aber hey, endlich mal in Island gewesen.

In den Stunden des Wartens (wir durften unsere SItze nicht verlassen, Klogang war auch nicht möglich), gab es für die meisten nichts anderes zu tun, als die Stewardessen und den Übersetzer dabei zu erhaschen, wie sie sich eine Träne wegwischen, während die Polizei und der Notarzt scheinbar ewig lang die Angelegenheit klären. Auch ich werde befragt, weil ich direkt vor dem Paar saß, aber ich habe nichts Wertvolles beizutragen. Ich sorge rasche für eine "billige" Übernachtungsgelegenheit bei meiner Ankunft direkt vor Ort (billig, weil das Inn nicht der Rede wert war, der Preis war alles andere als billig). Auf Nachfrage, ob die Dame noch unter uns weile, gab eine Stewardess, die Süßigkeiten verteilte, nur ein professionelles Lächeln als Antwort.

Der Flieger wird eine Stunde lang für eine halbe Stunde betankt und wir verlassen gegen 18:30 Uhr (oder etwas eher) den winzigen Flughafen. Der Pilot erklärt, dass die Crew einstimmig beschlossen hat die Weiterreise aufzunehmen und sich alle trotz des Vorfalls in der Lage sehen, uns Passagiere professionell nach SFO zu begleiten. Zuerst spricht er auf Deutsch und teilt den traurigen Abschluss des Vorfalls mit. Die Deutschen klatschen als Dank und, so schätze ich es ein, aus Anteilnahme. Dann das Gleiche nochmal auf Englisch. Die Reaktion ist kurioserweise anders, die Leute reagieren mit einem schockierten Raunen, selbst die jungen Amerikaner, die direkt nebenan sitzen.

Ich sehe auf den Bildschirm und merke, wir haben noch 8 Stunden und 47 Minuten Flug vor uns. Der Russe weint noch immer, das Nackenkissen trägt er ebenfalls noch, während er wieder auf seinen Platz geht. Als ich fünf Stunden später am vorderen Ende der Kabine nach einer Stewardess suche, um eine Decke zu erhalten (es ist nicht nur der tödlichste Flug, auf dem ich je gewesen bin, sondern auch der KÄLTESTE), sehe ich den Partner der Toten dort sitzen. Ich bin geschockt. Aber klar, warum sollte er in dieser isländischen Steppe bleiben? Vielleicht hat er serious business in den USA. Ich weiß nicht, was ich tun soll. Soll ich ihm zunicken, grüßen, zulächeln? Er sieht mich kurz an, wirkt gefasst aber auch verloren. Was tut man in solch einer Situation? Ich glaube nicht, dass meine Reaktion nachahmungswürdig war, aber dafür vermutlich sehr deutsch.
