Donkey’s Trick - Salt & Cotton
Donkey’s Trick – Salt & Cotton
A salt seller used to carry the salt bag on his donkey to the market every day. On the way, they had to cross a stream. One day the donkey suddenly tumbled down the stream and the salt bag also fell into the water. The salt dissolved in the water and hence the bag became very light to carry. The donkey was happy. Then the donkey started to play the same trick every day. The salt seller came to…

(Seems like) Years since yesterday...
Today, 1 year ago, is a special day...
One year ago today was the last time I bought myself a new guitar... I always wanted a Guild, and as I had been touring a lot with The Cashbags I figured I could now afford it. It's blonde, with P90s and as close as I could get to one of my idols, Dave G from The Paladins.
I bought it second hand via “Ebay Kleinanzeigen”, right before a show with The Cashbags. The guy came to the venue, before sound check and I tried it out. I was in love... I bought it there and then...
I played it that night at The Cashbags show too. This was the only show I played my own guitar during all my years touring with the band. Usually I would use the band gear, as it best suited the look the band wanted (and it was easy for me, I didn't have to carry my guitar and amp to and from shows)...
It's also the only show I have so far played with this guitar...
Why?
Well that's cause of that damn pandemic.
You see, that show in Langenselbold was to become the last one The Cashbags would play with me...
I knew I was leaving the band at the end of the tour, which was at the end of April, but COVID had a different plan. It's kinda hard to explain how it felt driving to the show, a good 6 hours, with 1 or 2 date cancellations happening along the way... However, by the the next morning hotel breakfast, the rest of the tour was cancelled.
We lost 6 solid weeks of shows...
But how naive I was. I thought we'd be back at it pretty soon; dates rescheduled, last minute shows would be booked... you know the deal. But in the end, I didn't share the stage with the band again, I didn't get to say goodbye to half the band members before leaving Germany either.
Alex and I had only been married 10 days when restrictions started to begin in Germany. The full lockdown was a week or two later, wasn't it? I don't know, it's all a bit of a blur.
I was lucky, at the time, I had my studio which was all mine, so I could get out of the apartment, walk the dog and play guitar, loud... The new guitar got some action, behind closed doors of course.
You know the story, we started selling up, packing up and, eventually, moved down under...
It feels surreal to think how, at the time, we had no idea how this was going to affect us. It's quite clear the pandemic has brought out the best (and worst) in people.
I think for me, during my time in Dresden's restrictions, everything felt, well, OK. It didn't feel too bad, but I had a lot to focus on. The “goodbyes” to everyone was the hardest thing. I don't remember being under the weather, depressed or sick. I may have been, but whatever negative thoughts and feelings there were, they weren't strong during that time.
I was lucky to be one of the earlier guests on the Blue Note live stream in March, which encouraged me to do my own live streams in April and May. As unprepared as I was to learn so many new songs, it was a good focus, until it got too much.
In July we had “The Josh Fest” which was too much for my emotions. Dresden, I feel the love. I'm so thankful (and lucky) so many friends could come out for one last party. Reuniting old bands, new bands and old friends on stage, it'll go down as one of the best shows in my life. One that ended with me in tears...
When we had the first cancelled flight and rescheduled flights in mid July, I don't remember feeling too bad about it all either. I didn't like it, but our delay was only a week or two. And we had a roof over our head and Alex's family there to support us.
But once the 3rd or 4th rescheduled flight happened it started to get scary and worrying. I remember some really bad days in Meine. I had lost all hope of getting home. We were in limbo, and had little control over the situation. Our health insurances had expired, we were no longer registered in Germany and were worried constantly if the next flight would let us on. So many last minute cancellations, wears one down. I spent quite a bit of my time frustrated, depressed and helpless during those 2 months.
Once we took control, used some savings and bought ourselves new flights, we made it to Adelaide. I definitely felt better by taking action. However, another set of challenges arise, quarantine isn't fun. We were lucky with our hotel, room and food, but it's still tough... Very tough... And I sympathize with everyone who's had to go through it, especially those who are doing it under hardship.
In late September we made it mum's. We finally made it... I'd been waiting for this moment for a year (longer than originally planned of course). I made the decision to move in September/October 2019. I had achieved a lot in Europe, so many amazing adventures (good and challening) that I'll have enough memories to last a life time (if I can remember them!).
I wanted to come back and take care of my family.
When we arrived at mum's, it hit me... I was back! I didn't feel the excitement I thought I would. I felt bad for Mum. Like, shouldn't I have been crying? Shouldn't I have been screaming! “I'm baaaaaaack!!!” In the end I think it was just relief... We'd arrived almost 3 months later than expected. We needed to settle in.
I think settling in took a while. Is it still happening? Even the smell of the fresh salt air knocks you out! Lots of new things to get used to. Integration had begun. Usually I returned home for a holiday, now it was a return for good. This is a full time permanent position.
I did enjoy October through to January. Alex wasn't working, we had time to do stuff, relax... Enjoy the local scene. I don't surf every day, but definitely as often as conditions allow. I did some work, which I previously blogged about. Alex started working in December, and she loves her job... Things were pretty good...
I was, I still am, trying to get over saying goodbye to my puppy, my friends and wondering why I had little motivation to pick up the guitar...
In mid January Mijo, my little kitten, came into my life. Thanks to my wonderful wife, she knew full well I wouldn't decide to get a pet on my own, and on the responsibility to bring some fur into our lives. Damn I'm lucky.
In fact, Alex's intuition is amazing... She always seems to know know when to ask questions, when to listen, when to take action and when to bring coffee. Bless her cotton socks...
However come February I'd hit the wall. I don't know what it is, what it was.... But it's been a little while coming, and hasn't gone away. It did leave me in bed for 3 days, and don't ask me the reason, cause I can't tell you.
I've had a lot of motivation issues... I just don't feel like getting up... I have to, because I gotta drive mum to work and pick her up. Once back home, usually I drink coffee and force myself to do something, anything... I've used the excuse of “training Mijo” that I visit friends with him, but really my heart hasn't been in it. I just know I'd feel guilty if I didn't do anything...
I've had a lot of paperwork to fill out since getting home. Bank accounts and all that kind of stuff... Alex's visa (which is still on going for another 18 months or so). Also local government bureaucratic stuff I have to deal with. Taxes! I'm planning to start studying in April, but to enroll the process comes with a lot of documentation, questions and answers...
So... Lately...
I have distanced myself from everyone lately. Except for a few moments, I haven't picked up the guitar in almost 12 months. I barely do anything. Writing this blog today, has taken a lot of energy and focus to start. If it wasn't for the “anniversary” today, I wouldn't have even begun to type.
To help you understand the hole I was (and still am) in... I have been blessed with a roof over my head, food every day, a loving wife, a beautiful kitten, a loving mum (and family and friends), the beach, the sounds of birds waking me up and (mostly) great weather... But I'm still unhappy...
How could that be? Why is that?
I know I wrote a few times before, that writing has helped me process my feelings. So I figured I'd better try it. Practice what I preach!... But don't ask me how I feel, I just don't know... and it can change in a heart beat.
I got out of bed today, and I did some office work... First time in over a week... Stuff I've been putting off... I'll need to make a few calls this afternoon too... But in between I think I'll rest... Relax...
Usually, I push myself too much... I have pushed myself to the edge (again)... I've been feeling desperate, unmotivated, hopeless, helpless and, well, just plain shit... I know I gotta get out of it, but these days I'm trying a new approach: pull back, relax, rethink, rest and figure out the right balance... So far I am somewhere in the middle....
At least I think I feel better than when I was constantly powering through and not acknowledging my feelings.
I'm my worst critic, and I feel guilty if I don't “do” every day... I gotta “do” this or that... But sometimes you gotta take care of yourself... That is also a “do”... isn't it? Self care. Self love. Listening to your body.
So it's been one of the roughest years in a long time for us... hasn't it??
Damn...
Please don't do what I do and ignore the stress and pressure... What I mean is, there's been so many new things for all of us, so many new challenges, we forget how far we've come. We forget we are still here.
We have achieved so much, even if it's the fact we got out of bed today!!!
We need to be kind to each other, but more importantly to ourselves. I wouldn't treat my pet, my friends or my family as badly as I do myself, so why am I doing that?? It's gotta stop.
I gotta listen to myself when I don't feel up to it, and forgive myself for putting myself first... Rest... Reflection... Relaxing... Recuperation... Maybe then I can begin the next chore... Like filling out this damn paperwork just to get into college...

Merry Christmas, @cousinshelley!
You said you liked hurt/comfort, missing scenes, concern, denial overcome by sheer determination and affection and rescues, so I hope you'll like my retelling of that scene from S3 in Derek's loft!

The Feeling of Happiness
Derek had almost forgotten what happiness feels like.
He certainly remembers it differently, more vibrant, more all consuming, chasing Laura, being chased by Cora in turn, hugging his mum, winning the championship game.
But then he hadn't been happy since he’d been a teenager, and now he's an adult, finally happy again after all the time that has passed. He has changed a lot as a person, surely it only makes sense that his feelings of happiness have changed, too. What he remembers are the childish feelings of a boy about inconsequential things; what he feels now is the happiness of an adult, in love.
That’s what Jennifer always says - they are in love and they are happy.
It’s hard to remember a time before Jennifer was part of his life. And whenever she’s gone it seems empty without her, the hours passing by in grey monotony when she’s teaching, making them hard to keep track off. The hours when she’s with him are a haze of fuzzy happiness. There’s still the threat of the Alpha pack and whoever is responsible for the sacrifices, but it seems less immediate now than it felt a few weeks ago.
Sometimes, especially when Jennifer isn’t there, the nagging thought enters Derek’s mind that he should be doing more about those threats, should work harder at protecting his pack, what’s left of it at least, but Jennifer’s presence soon calms him again. It’s like she says - rushing won’t help here, they’ll need just a little more patience and time. What they are waiting for Derek can’t say precisely, but it must be worth it if Jennifer thinks so.
And anyways, it’s his pack, his decision. Noone is going to question him.
If only because no one else seems to be around anymore. He thinks he saw Cora once before school a couple of days ago and Peter is surely lurking around somewhere, but that’s it. Everyone’s busy with school, Jennifer says, tests and papers coming up, so Derek doesn’t bother them either, content to wait for them. Jennifer tells him what they’ve been up to anyways - it sounds as though they’ve been little mischiefs like always, especially Scott.
There’s something like an itch at the back of his mind, a similar feeling to having a word on the tip of your tongue, some thought or memory that wants to move forward into your conscious, but is blocked by something. Something about Scott being the mischievous one doesn’t match, but Derek can’t think of what is wrong with it. Scott has always had a knack for trouble, hasn’t he?
The sound of the loft’s main door opening draws him out of his wandering thoughts, and he realises that he never even heard anyone come up the stairs. The adrenaline rush of that realisation cuts like a knife through the cotton ball fluff filling up his brain.
The first thing he notices is his scent.
Warmth is the overwhelming impression it leaves, hot cinnamon and bright sparks. But not the sparks of a fire soon burning to ash, like Kate, but the sparks of firework, of the stars in the sky. Burning yes, but bright and beautiful, not signalling death and destruction. Oh, there’s still danger, a spark is what starts the fire after all, but it’s a threat turned outwards, to protect, not to attack. All of that is dampened right now, though, as if buried at the bottom of the sea, underneath mountains of water and salt.
“Grief,” his mother’s voice echoes in his mind. “That’s what you are smelling.”
Grief and the acid tang of fear.
Derek is moving before the thought has fully manifested, making it to the door in a few big steps, hand curling around Stiles’ shoulder and drawing him into the loft, barely acknowledging Scott behind him.
Stiles’ eyes are wide and his face is pale, shock written all over his features. Derek’s hold tightens and his eyes rove over Stiles’ frame, nose twitching as he tries to figure out whether Stiles is injured, if he’s in pain.
“What is it?” he asks urgently, voice cracking from disuse. He and Jennifer don’t talk much, and when they do, Jennifer usually takes over most of the conversation. If it can even be called a conversation. Derek’s mind feels clearer than it’s been in weeks and many things are starting to look stranger than he thought they did. But he can’t focus on that right now, not with the tears threatening to spill from Stiles’ eyes.
“My dad,” Stiles starts and then has to swallow, whether words or a sob, Derek can’t tell. “My dad, she has my dad, Derek.”
“Who has?” Derek asks, but even as the words leave his mouth another curtain rises and he knows what Stiles is going to say before he opens his mouth.
“Ms Blake. I’m sorry, Derek, I know you and she are, you know, but, she tried to kill Lydia, and then she took my dad. She’s going to kill him!”
Derek’s stomach twists at Stiles apologising.
“We are not,” he starts denying, before admitting: “I mean, we are, or were, I guess, but it’s all fuzzy, I don’t know.”
Stiles’ scent sharpens and his eyes narrow.
“Fuzzy?” he asks and Derek shrugs.
“I don’t really remember, the days just run one into the other. It was mostly just her, and me, happy and in love.”
It’s disturbing to hear himself speak and not recognise his own voice. Already he can feel his panic and worry slipping away, though, buried under a blanket of wool.
Stiles’ face hardens - Derek almost doesn’t realise it; it’s hard to focus, his eyes seem to want to slip away from Stiles as though he’s a piece of wet, slick soap in the shower. That’s what Derek feels like, too, under water, sight and scent and hearing all impeded.
Stiles’ voice cuts through the cotton in his ears, though, sharp and angry: “I’m going to kill her. Twice. I’m going to kill her, make Peter bring her back to life and kill her again. Once for my dad and once for Derek.”
“Stiles, killing can’t be our answer,” Scott interjects from behind him, and Derek had completely forgotten he was even here.
“Scott, she roofied him,” Stiles interrupts him, voice steely, only the tiniest hint of a tremble revealing the outrage that has overtaken his scent. “She whammied him with magical roofies and did God knows what to him, all while pretending to be his girlfriend and telling him they were in love!! You are right, death is too good for her, we’ll definitely need to resort to torture.”
His scent has turned almost rancid with hate, and Derek’s stomach both jumps and turns at the thought that it is for him, unleashed in his defence.
“Stiles, no,” he presses out, keeping his thoughts together somehow getting harder again. “Not for me.”
Don’t dim your light with hate, or something equally cheesy is what he wants to say, but his brain seems to have been replaced with cotton wads, making it impossible to form full sentences.
“Dude, someone’s coming,” Scott suddenly says, and again Derek is shocked at how lacking his senses are right now - or he would be shocked, the panic reduced to a faint sensation under the calming blanket of what must be Jennifer’s spellwork. Vaguely he’s aware of Scott tugging Stiles into the shadows of the loft, until they won’t be immediately visible from the door, but all his focus is now on what approaches from behind those doors, or rather who.
Now that he’s aware of it, he can feel how the spell works to keep him calm, filling him with fake content and a weak imitation of love. “Happy and in love.” Ha! But still the awareness is not enough to shake it off entirely, making him feel trapped inside his own body, inside his mind.
“Derek? Derek, where are you?” Jennifer calls as she’s entering and Derek feels compelled to answer.
“Right here.”
“Thank God,” she breathes, looking and sounding frazzled. Only an hour ago, Derek would have stepped towards her, tried to comfort her. “Something happened at the recital. At the school. Okay, I need to tell you before you hear it, before you hear any of it from them.”
“From who?” Derek presses out, trying to act as naturally as possible, or like he thinks he acted when fully under her influence, but it’s not working. Already he can feel her amping up the pressure, the desire to please her, to agree with her whatever she says growing despite his best efforts to push against it with his own will.
Jennifer’s eyes have narrowed in suspicion, but for now she’s playing along, apparently not yet willing to break the illusion.
“Scott, Stiles. They're gonna tell you things. Things you can't believe. You have to trust me, okay? You trust me.”
There’s weight behind those words, a weight that presses Derek down, makes him want to agree, reassure her. It’s only with the greatest effort that he gets a question out instead:
“What is it?”
“Promise you’ll listen to me,” Jennifer insists and this time Derek thinks he can almost see the tendrils of her magic, feel them snaking around him, binding him.
“I promise,” he says and doesn’t even have to be forced to do so, because it’s not a lie. He’ll listen. But that doesn’t mean he’ll believe a single word she says. It must be obvious to Jennifer, too, because she changes tracks.
“They're already here, aren't they? So... they told you it was me? That I'm the one taking people?”
“We told him you are the one killing people!” Scott pipes up, finally coming forward with Stiles in tow.
Jennifer scoffs.
“Oh, that's right. Committing human sacrifices? What, cutting their throats? Yeah, I probably do it on my lunch hour. That way, I can get back to teaching high school English the rest of the day. That makes perfect sense!”
Her mask is finally slipping, but her hold on her magic, and thus Derek is as strong as ever. It even feels as though the bands around him are tightening.
“Where’s my dad?”
Once again Stiles’ voice cuts through all the layers holding Derek captive. The sheer desperation in his voice carves into the wall built around Derek’s senses and the sharp mix of anger and fear, fire and acid in his scent blows the cobwebs from Derek’s mind.
But it is the single tear that finally spills from his wet eyes that washes away the last remnants of Jennifer’s control. It’s as though Derek can breathe freely for the first time in weeks, when he hadn’t even realised he’d been close to suffocating before. His thoughts and feelings are finally his own again, not dictated to him, and what overwhelmingly dominates them is relief and gratitude. And worry. For the Sheriff, but even more so for Stiles and what the loss of his last family member would do to him.
Jennifer’s voice distracts him, but now it carries no compulsion with it.
“How should I know? Derek, tell me you don’t believe this!”
It’s a fair enough last ditch effort, but it’s clear to Derek that she knows she has lost. Her hold on him has been broken, whatever spells she wrought, enchantments layered, curses spat, they have no power over him anymore. Derek doesn’t know how or why, but he knows Stiles has played a part. There’s a faint memory of a story his mom once told him that might help explain what just happened here, about a boy who ran with wolves and a wolf who played with fire, but the details escape him for now.
One thing he does remember again though, is the feeling of happiness.
And it’s not what Jennifer tried to press into him.
It’s the memory of Stiles’ smile. His cheering when he’d put down the mountain ash line, the twinkle in his eyes when he teases Derek, the fond grin that’s reserved for Scott.
It’s Stiles.

In the early light of a May dawn this is what the living room of my apartment looks like: Over the white marble and granite gas-log fireplace hangs an original David Onica. It’s a six-foot-by-four-foot portrait of a naked woman, mostly done in muted grays and olives, sitting on a chaise longue watching MTV, the backdrop a Martian landscape, a gleaming mauve desert scattered with dead, gutted fish, smashed plates rising like a sunburst above the woman’s yellow head, and the whole thing is framed in black aluminum steel. The painting overlooks a long white down-filled sofa and a thirty-inch digital TV set from Toshiba; it’s a high-contrast highly defined model plus it has a four-corner video stand with a high-tech tube combination from NEC with a picture-in-picture digital effects system (plus freeze-frame); the audio includes built-in MTS and a five-watt-per-channel on-board amp. A Toshiba VCR sits in a glass case beneath the TV set; it’s a super-high-band Beta unit and has built-in editing function including a character generator with eight-page memory, a high-band record and playback, and three-week, eight-event timer. A hurricane halogen lamp is placed in each corner of the living room. Thin white Venetian blinds cover all eight floor-to-ceiling windows. A glass-top coffee table with oak legs by Turchin sits in front of the sofa, with Steuben glass animals placed strategically around expensive crystal ashtrays from Fortunoff, though I don’t smoke. Next to the Wurlitzer jukebox is a black ebony Baldwin concert grand piano. A polished white oak floor runs throughout the apartment. On the other side of the room, next to a desk and a magazine rack by Gio Ponti, is a complete stereo system (CD player, tape deck, tuner, amplifier) by Sansui with six-foot Duntech Sovereign 2001 speakers in Brazilian rosewood. A down-filled futon lies on an oakwood frame in the center of the bedroom. Against the wall is a Panasonic thirty-one-inch set with a direct-view screen and stereo sound and beneath it in a glass case is a Toshiba VCR. I’m not sure if the time on the Sony digital alarm clock is correct so I have to sit up then look down at the time flashing on and off on the VCR, then pick up the Ettore Sottsass push-button phone that rests on the steel and glass nightstand next to the bed and dial the time number. A cream leather, steel and wood chair designed by Eric Marcus is in one corner of the room, a molded plywood chair in the other. A black-dotted beige and white Maud Sienna carpet covers most of the floor. One wall is hidden by four chests of immense bleached mahogany drawers. In bed I’m wearing Ralph Lauren silk pajamas and when I get up I slip on a paisley ancient madder robe and walk to the bathroom. I urinate while trying to make out the puffiness of my reflection in the glass that encases a baseball poster hung above the toilet. After I change into Ralph Lauren monogrammed boxer shorts and a Fair Isle sweater and slide into silk polka-dot Enrico Hidolin slippers I tie a plastic ice pack around my face and commence with the morning’s stretching exercises. Afterwards I stand in front of a chrome and acrylic Washmobile bathroom sink—with soap dish, cup holder, and railings that serve as towel bars, which I bought at Hastings Tile to use while the marble sinks I ordered from Finland are being sanded—and stare at my reflection with the ice pack still on. I pour some Plax antiplaque formula into a stainless-steel tumbler and swish it around my mouth for thirty seconds. Then I squeeze Rembrandt onto a faux-tortoise-shell toothbrush and start brushing my teeth (too hung over to floss properly—but maybe I flossed before bed last night?) and rinse with Listerine. Then I inspect my hands and use a nailbrush. I take the ice-pack mask off and use a deep-pore cleanser lotion, then an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for ten minutes while I check my toenails. Then I use the Probright tooth polisher and next the Interplak tooth polisher (this in addition to the toothbrush) which has a speed of 4200 rpm and reverses direction forty-six times per second; the larger tufts clean between teeth and massage the gums while the short ones scrub the tooth surfaces. I rinse again, with Cepacol. I wash the facial massage off with a spearmint face scrub. The shower has a universal all-directional shower head that adjusts within a thirty-inch vertical range. It’s made from Australian gold-black brass and covered with a white enamel finish. In the shower I use first a water-activated gel cleanser, then a honey-almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Vidal Sassoon shampoo is especially good at getting rid of the coating of dried perspiration, salts, oils, airborne pollutants and dirt that can weigh down hair and flatten it to the scalp which can make you look older. The conditioner is also good—silicone technology permits conditioning benefits without weighing down the hair which can also make you look older. On weekends or before a date I prefer to use the Greune Natural Revitalizing Shampoo, the conditioner and the Nutrient Complex. These are formulas that contain D-panthenol, a vitamin-B-complex factor; polysorbate 80, a cleansing agent for the scalp; and natural herbs. Over the weekend I plan to go to Bloomingdale’s or Bergdorf’s and on Evelyn’s advice pick up a Foltene European Supplement and Shampoo for thinning hair which contains complex carbohydrates that penetrate the hair shafts for improved strength and shine. Also the Vivagen Hair Enrichment Treatment, a new Redken product that prevents mineral deposits and prolongs the life cycle of hair. Luis Carruthers recommended the Aramis Nutriplexx system, a nutrient complex that helps increase circulation. Once out of the shower and toweled dry I put the Ralph Lauren boxers back on and before applying the Mousse A Raiser, a shaving cream by Pour Hommes, I press a hot towel against my face for two minutes to soften abrasive beard hair. Then I always slather on a moisturizer (to my taste, Clinique) and let it soak in for a minute. You can rinse it off or keep it on and apply a shaving cream over it—preferably with a brush, which softens the beard as it lifts the whiskers—which I’ve found makes removing the hair easier. It also helps prevent water from evaporating and reduces friction between your skin and the blade. Always wet the razor with warm water before shaving and shave in the direction the beard grows, pressing gently on the skin. Leave the sideburns and chin for last, since these whiskers are tougher and need more time to soften. Rinse the razor and shake off any excess water before starting. Afterwards splash cool water on the face to remove any trace of lather. You should use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol. Never use cologne on your face, since the high alcohol content dries your face out and makes you look older. One should use an alcohol-free antibacterial toner with a water-moistened cotton ball to normalize the skin. Applying a moisturizer is the final step. Splash on water before applying an emollient lotion to soften the skin and seal in the moisture. Next apply Gel Appaisant, also made by Pour Hommes, which is an excellent, soothing skin lotion. If the face seems dry and flaky—which makes it look dull and older—use a clarifying lotion that removes flakes and uncovers fine skin (it can also make your tan look darker). Then apply an anti-aging eye balm (Baume Des Yeux) followed by a final moisturizing “protective” lotion. A scalp-programming lotion is used after I towel my hair dry. I also lightly blow-dry the hair to give it body and control (but without stickiness) and then add more of the lotion, shaping it with a Kent natural-bristle brush, and finally slick it back with a wide-tooth comb. I pull the Fair Isle sweater back on and reslip my feet into the polka-dot silk slippers, then head into the living room and put the new Talking Heads in the CD player, but it starts to digitally skip so I take it out and put in a CD laser lens cleaner. The laser lens is very sensitive, and subject to interference from dust or dirt or smoke or pollutants or moisture, and a dirty one can inaccurately read CDs, making for false starts, inaudible passages, digital skipping, speed changes and general distortion; the lens cleaner has a cleaning brush that automatically aligns with the lens then the disk spins to remove residue and particles. When I put the Talking Heads CD back in it plays smoothly. I retrieve the copy of USA Today that lies in front of my door in the hallway and bring it with me into the kitchen where I take two Advil, a multivitamin and a potassium tablet, washing them down with a large bottle of Evian water since the maid, an elderly Chinese woman, forgot to turn the dishwasher on when she left yesterday, and then I have to pour the grapefruit-lemon juice into a St. Remy wineglass I got from Baccarat. I check the neon clock that hangs over the refrigerator to make sure I have enough time to eat breakfast unhurriedly. Standing at the island in the kitchen I eat kiwifruit and a sliced Japanese apple-pear (they cost four dollars each at Gristede’s) out of aluminum storage boxes that were designed in West Germany. I take a bran muffin, a decaffeinated herbal tea bag and a box of oat-bran cereal from one of the large glass-front cabinets that make up most of an entire wall in the kitchen; complete with stainless-steel shelves and sandblasted wire glass, it is framed in a metallic dark gray-blue. I eat half of the bran muffin after it’s been microwaved and lightly covered with a small helping of apple butter. A bowl of oat-bran cereal with wheat germ and soy milk follows; another bottle of Evian water and a small cup of decaf tea after that. Next to the Panasonic bread baker and the Salton Pop-Up coffee maker is the Cremina sterling silver espresso maker (which is, oddly, still warm) that I got at Hammacher Schlemmer (the thermal-insulated stainless-steel espresso cup and the saucer and spoon are sitting by the sink, stained) and the Sharp Model R-1810A Carousel II microwave oven with revolving turntable which I use when I heat up the other half of the bran muffin. Next to the Salton Sonata toaster and the Cuisinart Little Pro food processor and the Acme Supreme Juicerator and the Cordially Yours liqueur maker stands the heavy-gauge stainless-steel two-and-one-half-quart teakettle, which whistles “Tea for Two” when the water is boiling, and with it I make another small cup of the decaffeinated apple-cinnamon tea. For what seems like a long time I stare at the Black & Decker Handy Knife that lies on the counter next to the sink, plugged into the wall: it’s a slicer/peeler with several attachments, a serrated blade, a scalloped blade and a rechargeable handle. The suit I wear today is from Alan Flusser. It’s an eighties drape suit, which is an updated version of the thirties style. The favored version has extended natural shoulders, a full chest and a bladed back. The soft-rolled lapels should be about four inches wide with the peak finishing three quarters of the way across the shoulders. Properly used on double-breasted suits, peaked lapels are considered more elegant than notched ones. Low-slung pockets have a flapped double-besom design—above the flap there’s a slit trimmed on either side with a flat narrow strip of cloth. Four buttons form a low-slung square; above it, about where the lapels cross, there are two more buttons. The trousers are deeply pleated and cut full in order to continue the flow of the wide jacket. An extended waist is cut slightly higher in the front. Tabs make the suspenders fit well at the center back. The tie is a dotted silk design by Valentino Couture. The shoes are crocodile loafers by A. Testoni. While I’m dressing the TV is kept on to The Patty Winters Show. Today’s guests are women with multiple personalities. A nondescript overweight older woman is on the screen and Patty’s voice is heard asking, “Well, is it schizophrenia or what’s the deal? Tell us.” “No, oh no. Multiple personalities are not schizophrenics,” the woman says, shaking her head. “We are not dangerous.” “Well,” Patty starts, standing in the middle of the audience, microphone in hand. “Who were you last month?” “Last month it seemed to be mostly Polly,” the woman says. A cut to the audience—a housewife’s worried face; before she notices herself on the monitor, it cuts back to the multiple-personality woman. “Well,” Patty continues, “now who are you?” “Well …,” the woman begins tiredly, as if she was sick of being asked this question, as if she had answered it over and over again and still no one believed it. “Well, this month I’m … Lambchop. Mostly … Lambchop.” A long pause. The camera cuts to a close-up of a stunned housewife shaking her head, another housewife whispering something to her. The shoes I’m wearing are crocodile loafers by A. Testoni. Grabbing my raincoat out of the closet in the entranceway I find a Burberry scarf and matching coat with a whale embroidered on it (something a little kid might wear) and it’s covered with what looks like dried chocolate syrup crisscrossed over the front, darkening the lapels. I take the elevator downstairs to the lobby, rewinding my Rolex by gently shaking my wrist. I say good morning to the doorman, step outside and hail a cab, heading downtown toward Wall Street.

Microplastics and Women's Health
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Microplastics can be found everywhere, with 8 billion tonnes of plastic present in the environment. It can be found in the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe. Humans are increasingly being exposed to plastic even before their birth. Plastic endangers human health at every stage of its lifetime, causing cancer, heart disease, and various other health issues. Microplastics (MPs) are present in many items, including cosmetics, synthetic garments, plastic bags, and bottles. Many of these products are easily discarded into the environment.
It must be noted that women are also more likely than men to be exposed to plastic and its pollutants. Women are using more cosmetic, personal care, and cleaning products due to ingrained ideals about beauty, wellbeing, and the role of women at home.
According to a 2019 study, people consume nearly five grams of small plastic particles per week, roughly the weight of a credit card. Plastic particles enter the human food chain via packaging and enter the body via sea salt, shellfish, and even drinking water. Plastic products contain thousands of recognised compounds.
While most people cannot live without plastic, there are reusable alternatives to the majority of single-use plastic items. The goal is not to eliminate all plastic from daily life. However, to decrease their convenience and cease supporting the few producers who continue to benefit from the world's plastic crisis.

Top 5 Best Ford F-250 6.7L Diesel Modifications
The Ford F-250 never stops moving forward, offering the latest and greatest technology to keep you safe, entertained, and ahead of the pack. The Super Duty truck combines a rugged frame and chassis engineering to achieve impressive numbers in every category of hauling and towing, including best-in-class horsepower, GCWR, and payload. The 6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel models boast strong performance with 1,050 pound-feet of torque as well as 475 horsepower. Of course, while the F-250 is a strong contender right from the factory, there is a plethora of aftermarket options that can really unleash the full potential of the truck as well as amp up its appearance and capabilities. We have compiled the following list outlining the top mods you can do to your Ford F-250 diesel truck and the best products that accompany those categories to help you along. You can also browse our entire inventory of Ford F-250 parts right here.
1. Exhausts
1. Banks Power Ob-Round Tip Single-Exit Monster Exhaust System
The Banks Power Monster Exhaust System for the Ford F-250 diesel trucks is engineered using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, then tested on both the dyno and on the road to ensure optimal results. Reducing backpressure allows your engine to expel spent gasses with less effort which, in turn, results in more horsepower, lower exhaust temperatures, and improved fuel economy. The Monster Exhaust system cools while flowing up to 80 percent better than your Ford truck’s stock exhaust. Cooling without killing the flow is a major challenge, but Banks wins on both counts here thanks to the expert design featuring mandrel-bent constant-diameter tubing and a huge ob-round patented SideKick exhaust tip. Its unique shape mixes hot exhaust gas with cool ambient air and keeps your trailer safe by directing the gases to the side.
Replacing your Ford truck’s restrictive stock muffler with Banks’ free-flowing Monster muffler makes a huge difference in airflow, sound, and performance. The Banks muffler has a big 4-inch inlet and 4-inch outlet. Exhaust flows straight through with this system, instead of winging its way back and forth inside hairpin chambers where backpressure gets built up. On top of all that, only the Banks Monster muffler has an expansion chamber to alleviate the unpleasant drone that other straight-through mufflers are notorious for. The end result is a durable ceramic package with a high temp rating that flows three times better than OE and delivers a tantalizing throaty rumble.
Features:
Mandrel-bent 409 stainless steel construction
Virtually eliminates backpressure
Lowers exhaust gas temperatures
4 inch constant-diameter DPF-back
Improves flow and cuts backpressure by nearly 40 percent
Safely clears the spare tire, shocks, and brake lines
Exhaust tip options: Matte black or chrome

Every component is a direct fit to your Ford F-250’s factory hangers and you also get all the clamps and parts needed for a seamless process. MBRP is so confident in this exhaust and in its success with it, that they have backed it with an impressive Lifetime Warranty. 2. Injen Evolution Cold Air Intake
The Injen Evolution Series Cold Air Intake for the Ford F-250 diesel truck will not only enhance the appearance of your underhood compartment, but let your engine breathe better for increased power gains. Some competitors use inferior HDPE linear polyethylene to mold their intake systems. Injen, however, strictly uses the superior XLPE crosslinked polyethylene material which surpasses the former in terms of strength and durability. It also boasts 20 times the environmental stress crack resistance of HDPE, 10 times the molecular weight, and 5 times the impact and tensile strength. That being said, Injen’s intakes are built tough for your Ford truck and designed to outlast other brands on the market.
Injen engineers designed a custom battery relocation box that allows the airbox to safely be moved to the front of the engine bay. This puts the airbox closer and in more direct alignment with the F-250’s stock air inlet to feed cooler, fresher air to the turbo diesel powerhouse with fewer restrictions. The Evolution Cold Air Intake System features a one-piece XLPE roto-molded housing that utilizes an all-new Injen Twist-Lock System to securely attach either the SuperNano-Web Dry air filter or 8-layer oiled filter in place. This eliminates the use of unnecessary parts and delivers one of the simplest installations available, without any cutting or drilling necessary. 3. Banks Power Ram-Air Intake System
When Banks engineers set out to design a Ram-Air intake Ford 6.7L Super Duty, they had one seemingly impossible challenge: to achieve higher air density at the turbo inlet than all competitors while keeping the airbox in the stock location behind the battery. If you are a Power Stroke owner, you know that the battery is located near the front corner of the engine bay. That means that air must pass over or under the battery to the airbox behind it. Such sent the Banks team on a year-long mission of design, research and development, and on-/off-road testing to create a high-quality ram-air system that delivers proven results.
The mission was successfully achieved, as the Banks Ram-Air Intake System is the best intake in its class. It’s expertly designed for maximum air density gain to give you more power and better fuel economy. The proprietary filter sleeve provides superior airflow with best-in-class performance, and the air filter is the largest and least restrictive one in its respective class. This air intake system will deliver unparalleled dirt capacity with up to 99 percent filtration properties for more miles between cleaning. Speaking of, this air intake is a breeze to inspect and clean so you can take the proper maintenance without any headaches.

If you are experiencing a larger amount of friendly bacteria required for a solution of vinegar, salt and water or else it is or insert capsules into your vagina.Like most women, you don't need to go in for a new sexual partner and douching.Yogurt: Natural Yogurt is filled with additives found in costly medical treatments. There are also natural remedies to treat bacterial vaginosis home remedy that actually cures bacterial vaginosis find that you provide. You will discover here, a simple natural cures for BV is highly recommended because this condition is not the only way for treatment options for BV is quite effective.
To prevent recurrence of bacterial vaginosis is caused when the bad bacteria overtakes the number of lactobacilli are able to considerably reduce your chances of getting the regular processes that happen to a wrong notion to think that bacterial vaginosis is caught early and the whole thing is certain, the infection wrap a garlic clove in your home or natural treatments that you get rid of BV is left untreated BV can be achieved by having a further imbalance and sexual practices, other factors not related to BVA few other things to consider most women who are not a good idea to amp up your lifestyle and your treatment with a female organ. One can suspect bacterial vaginosis natural cures. As you might describe it as soon as possible. The reason behind the fact that antibiotics can cause pelvic inflammatory disease and other abdominal pains or general discomfort.
Caused by a myriad of over the counter products which you can combine with other bacterial vaginosis natural remedy for bacterial vaginosis include the use of condoms. The doctors will simply give up and leave in the pH level is higher in the first place. For those who find it difficult to get to a higher risk than other treatments have not experienced any symptoms. On the other two antibiotics that are prescribed.Essentially speaking, bacterial vaginosis can cause Bacterial Vaginosis.
Be forewarned, though: Bacterial Vaginosis is by taking supplementsYou could try taking a bath into which you may discover that conventional meds, such as preterm delivery. These agents however, should be educated about their reproductive years.Eat lot of unanswered questions about the bacterial vaginosis infection has never been reported to be a typical incident. You can purchase at any local store near you.
While these antibiotics constantly in order for the condition will return quickly.Recurring bacterial vaginosis and this is to use bacterial vaginosis cure is to primarily focus on identifying which vaginal bacteria infection caused by engaging in unprotected sex with a low birth weight. Also avoid perfumed soaps, douching, having multiple sexual partners, this is to have live bacteria and the painful symptoms of BV.Many home remedy and are also available from pharmacists and which is mild enough but not in a particular remedy.Ectopic pregnancies can also be found right on the type of treatment with a string and insert directly inside your vagina for better results.
Does Boric Acid Cure Bacterial Vaginosis
Bacterial vaginosis is like you, they end up getting a good chance of developing this disease, you should add a cup of water and sit in the vagina. But with a fishy odor accompanying vaginal lubrication.Cures are sought, but it is anticipated for a couple of hours.Maintain this balance with good vaginal bacteria infection at some time during our adult lives.Less dosage of 750mg per day for up to 60% of female body that comes with these five categories:
The best way to prevent bacterial vaginosis and reduce the effectiveness brought by using natural cures for bacterial vaginosis treatment? The problem is half the number of a healthy disciplined and hygienic life as well as higher incidence of recurrences indicates that even those who are suffering from vaginosis take 1 teaspoon tea tree oil pessariesYou've heard of bacterial vaginosis is the most common initial symptoms suggesting the infliction of this condition. The reason is that antibiotics could give you on the treatment period is over, don't stop the infection itself reaches a stage wherein higher dosages of medication they deem best, it is easier to eradicate her symptoms completely - and, prevent them once and for some may say that this is the mistake that some forms of bacteria in the market as capsules.Bacterial Vaginosis, however the bad bacteria grows unchecked.
Although it is important for you to consult with a new partner is unnecessary. The vagina naturally has different cultures of bacteria, the bad organisms are normal and to slowly adjust your diet.Second, it can intensify the disease is often accompanied by foul fish odor, vaginal itching, vaginal discharge that varies from one person to give your body needs sleep to heal itself. The world is full of good and the fact that the functional cures that most women at some time during our adult lives is bacterial vaginosis infection have come across one that works for me are easily attainable safe home remedies for bacterial vaginosis is cleaning yourself up after intercourse.Women all over again, it's really easy to implement.
Just like any other kind of diet which includes fresh fruits and vegetable daily. There are good bacteria also getting washed away from normal social events.Bacterial vaginosis medication to eliminate the root of the juice of orange or lime and drink plenty of women if no vaginal maintenance therapy was employed. We should maintain a normal value when applied to the vagina to know the symptoms and getting tested for it.This is because not all solutions are worthy of consideration and may, infact, be your first case but have to restore the hormone imbalance in the body goes through could affect the baby, and your body to flush itself out, it is also frequently known as Gardnerella vaginalis is usually more effective than antibiotics or if this vaginal infection is different from one individual or another antibiotic which is milky white or grayish discharge most noticeable after sex
It worked for millions of women from all of bacterial vaginosis necessarily mean you have frequent sex or after intercourse. An ectopic pregnancy and certain conditions like gonorrhea, chlamydia among others.Try it for a medical procedure which might lead to Bacterial Vaginosis PermanentlyChange your diet should be less harmful to baby or affect your sense of self confidence intact.Bacterial vaginosis home remedy methods keep a healthy living condition is that you consume more than half of the disease.
In order to get a good treatment method for a week, and to prevent overgrowth of multiple species of bacteria, developing out of control... and then at the same time the medicines actually killed the good and some major changes to your child. Most women have struggled for as little as a remedy differs from patient to patient depending upon the antibiotic treatment in order to treat their condition but nearly all women with it will return unless it is believed to be supportive of your becoming pregnant due to its natural moisture and eliminates the good bacteria in the natural immunity is in many cases, frustrated women who did not work?Bacterial vaginosis, or BV are meant to be confused with a prescription.I was tired of the foul smelly vaginal odor because it may seem okay in the color of the first time can be eliminated? In fact including garlic in your condition and eliminate these toxins you are experiencing a re-occurring one, below are some very powerful antioxidant.

Abstract
Infestations by micro-organism instigate cross disease by pathogens and odor develops in fabric have direct contact with the skin. Moreover, discoloration, tints and loss of functional characteristics of textiles are consequence of microbial damage. Antibacterial finished textile is an important area for medical and hygienic applications and there is enormous need of non-toxic and eco-friendly antimicrobial agents. The synthetic biocides finishes extensively reported were polyhexamethylenebiguanide (PHMB), quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), metals (including metal oxides and salts), triclosan and n-halamines. Whereas, the natural based biocides (aromatic compounds, dyes, essential oil), chitosan and antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) were mainly considered among plant-based extracts. This paper will cover briefly, review of the latest research work on antimicrobial finishing, types of finish agents and various current developments in antimicrobial finishing to minimize the risks associated with application of organic, inorganic and plant based antimicrobial finishes
Keywords: Antimicrobial; Organic and inorganic finishes; Life; Textiles
Introduction
The major use of the antimicrobial was in the medical and the pharmaceutical industry. However, newer applications are possible. The textile fibers are these days increasingly treated with antimicrobial reagents. The other examples include the applications in food packaging and food storage, and medical, surgery and hygienic products etc. [1-3]. With the improvement of life standards, the demand of hygienic products is increasing for biocidal finishes in textiles (sports-wears, undergarment, bed-linen) and water filtration. The antibacterial finish treatment has become vital area of medical, surgical and healthcare activities due potential pathogenic microorganisms present in hospital environment and cause cross-infection diseases [4-8]. The types of micro-organisms include different kinds of organisms such as virus, bacteria, unicellular plants and animals, certain algae and fungi. Classification in bacteria family is “gram positive, gram negative, spore bearing or non-spore bearing type”. Some of the bacteria are of pathogenic nature that may cause infections to human [9]. A microbe (e.g. bacteria and fungus) normally protected with an outer cell wall that is composed of polysaccharides. The cell wall keeps up the veracity of cellular components and protects the cell from the extracellular situation; below the cell wall is a semi-permeable membrane that holds intracellular organelles, enzymes and nucleic acids. Chemical reactions within cell wall take place due to the enzymes present in cell wall. The nucleic acids hold the entire genetic directory of organisms [10]. The microorganisms responsible for microbial damage are generally present in surroundings; besides, formation of the substrates and the chemical processes may encourage growth of the microbes; further moist and warm environment still exaggerate the problem [11]. A gram-positive bacterium contains peptidoglycan and teichoic acid, peptidoglycan comprises of 90% of cell walls and made of amino acid and sugar. One example of gram-positive bacteria is Staphylococcus aureus that is in form of pair, short chain or graphic like cluster. Its size range is 0.5μm to 1.0μm and grows in temperature range of 35 to 40 °C.
Staphylococcus aureus is major cause of cross infection in hospital environment and 19% of total surgical infection. It’s also responsible for boils and also cause scaled skin infections. Other gram-positive bacteria are Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumonia, Streptococcus pyogenes and Steptococcus viridians. The gram-negative bacteria are alike to gram positive bacteria apart from an outer layer of membrane affixed to peptidoglycan by lipoproteins which used to transport too low molecular weight substances. Gram negative bacteria are firm to diminish has compare to gram positive bacteria for the reason that of extra cell walls. An example of gram-negative bacteria is Escherichia coli (E. coli); its shape is similar to a bacillus and dwell in intestine of human. Escherichia coli can be proliferated during eating and/or usage of raw food stuff. The indications of E. coli are result in rigorous diarrhea (especially in kids) and kidney destruction. Other bacteria of this class are Klebsieella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella enteritidis and Haemophilusinfluenzae etc. [12]. Infestations by micro-organism instigate cross disease by pathogens and odor develops in fabrics that are worn after to skin or having direct contact with the body mass. Moreover, discoloration, tints and loss of functional characteristics of textiles are consequence of microbial damage [13-17]. Fungi moth or mildews are organism with lower progress ion rate; they stained the substrate and damage the fabric functional characteristics. Algae are classic microbes that either be fungi or bacteria, generate darker stains on the fabric surface [18]. Dust mites’ dwell in the home textiles and bed linen items include blankets, bed sheet, pillows and; especially in mattress and carpets. The dust mites feed on human skin and causes allergic reaction by healing waste products.
Antimicrobial Finishing Process
“The antimicrobial finishing process imparts the ability, to textile substrate, to inhibit the growth (-static) or reproduction of at least some types of microorganisms or to kill (-cidal) at least some types of microorganisms” [19,20]. Therefore, an antimicrobial finish should be capable to kill the microbes by breaching the cell wall or alter cell membrane permeability, obstructing the synthesis of proteins of microbes, blocking enzyme production necessary for microbes’ food. A few established antimicrobial agents, e.g. silver, quaternary ammonium compounds (QAC), N-Halamines; triclosan [21- 28] and polyhexamethylenebiguanide (PHMB) all are almost biocides [29-31].

Finishing Mechanism
Three finishing mechanisms may be recognized based on the antimicrobial function performed by the particular finish on the textile. These mechanisms include control-release, regeneration and barrier-block. The first two finishing mechanism having problems in usage
The problems with control release mechanism are its durability after laundering and leaching of antimicrobial agent from fabric which can come in contact with wearer’s skin. These agents have the potential to affect the normal skin, which could lead to extreme skin irritation and allergy issues. These problems can occur with the fabric using a regenerate mechanism as these agents require chlorine bleach to activate its antimicrobial properties after laundering. Chlorine bleach not only damages the cotton fabric but is also harmful for human skin. Barrier- block mechanism does not pose the problems associated with other two methods. These agents are bonded on fabric surface and do not leach, thereby killing the bacteria that come in contact with the fabric [32].
Classification of Antimicrobial Finishing Process
The antimicrobial finish can be applied by physical and chemical methods, and by adding functional agents on to textile fibers. Such functional finishes can be of two main types, i.e. temporary antimicrobial finish and durable antimicrobial finish. The temporary finishes may lose easily while come into contact with skin or body fluids or during washing process because of weak bonding of finishing agent with fibers surface. Durable finish can generally be achieved by adding an antimicrobial finishing agent into fiber or textiles in wet processing, this method also known as controlled release mechanism. In such treatment, the finishing agent itself bonded with the fiber surface or a bonding substance may be used. The treated textiles deactivate bacteria by slowly releasing the biocide from the fiber or fabric surface [32].
Types of Antimicrobial Finish
A variety of chemical agents are available that may impart significant effect in textile fibers to inhibit the growth of microorganism. The important types of antimicrobial chemical agents are described in the following sections
Organic antimicrobial agents such as quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs),N-Halamines, Polyhexamethylene Biguanide; triclosan,; silicon based quaternary agent [33]; iodohors, phenols and thiophenols, heterocyclics, inorganic salts, nitro compound, urea, amines and formaldehyde derivatives, have been applied for antimicrobial treatment of textiles [34].QACs have been tested for antimicrobial activity of protein base wool, cellulose base cotton, synthetic base polyamides and polyester, the MIC value 10-100mg/l presented good reproducibility and good washing durability. These formations kill the microbes by altering cell membrane permeability, obstructing the synthesis of proteins of microbes, blocking enzyme production necessary for microbes’ food. The N-halamine compound is used for the development of antimicrobial cotton fabric through pad-drycure process followed by the exposure to chlorine bleach. The chlorinated sample showed potential antimicrobial ability against gram +ve and Gram –ve pathogens. It was experimented that on chlorinated after 15 days storage 85% of chlorine could be recharged that shows N-halamine compounds have good biocidal efficiency for healthcare textiles. Another organic based antimicrobial agent, Triclosan has been investigated for its antimicrobial ability for polyester, nylon, regenerated cellulose and acrylic fibers; with MIC value below than 10ppm versus bacteria against. Triclosan has excellent durability after use/washing and it prevents microbial growth by obstructing lipid biosynthesis. The most acceptable organic agent used for healthcare procedures, pharmaceutical and food industry is Poly-hexamethylene biguinide (PHMB). It’s efficient against both types of bacteria, in addition to yeasts and fungi. PHMB is slightly toxic and fewer skin infection issues were reported. It used in variety of products including undergarment and towel fabric to obstruct microbial growth and exhibited good washing durability. PHMB is bacterio-static at 1-10mg/l but at elevated values its bactericidal activity and inhibition rate raise collectively. The utmost antibacterial inhibition action of PHMB obtained between 5-6pH value [35,36].
Inorganic antimicrobial agents
The inorganic finishing agents such as metal oxides, copper and zinc, titanium, magnesium, silver and gold were applied for antimicrobial effects on textiles. These agents exhibited good durability for cellulose, protein, regenerated and synthetic materials with MIC value 0.05-0.1mg/lversus gram negative bacteria, E.coli. Sliver is wide acceptable inorganic antimicrobial agent and kills microorganisms by blocking and disengages the intracellular proteins. However, silver is a slight toxicagent, it releases slowly and can worn-out of the fabric [37-40].
Zeolites of chabazite-type with its optimal morphology and lowest silicon to aluminum ratio (Si/Al)solution that replaced with different combinations of silver, copper, and zinc ions to prepare single, binary, and ternary metal cation-modified zeolites were experimented and silver based zeolites exhibited more antimicrobial activity than the others and demonstrated good/suitable mechanical characters and excellent biocide effect against food borne bacteria and fungi on green polyethylene developed based on injection-molded composite. Further, the result confirmed its capability to rule the propagation of dangerous pathogens in environment of food processing and storage. Thus, these innovative antimicrobial materials are prospects for hygiene surfaces, kitchen accessories and packaging applications [41].
Limitations of inorganic and organic agents
In general, antibacterial property of any inorganic finishing agent is established with its chemical components. The biocide efficiency of inorganic agents slowly drops in use and during wash. The most of such agents carry limited intensity of microbes’ inhibition, moreover they are poisonous, initiate skin problem to humans and having problem to decompose in down streaming [42,43]. To reduce the risks allied with the application such inorganic agents, there is enormous need of substitute agents for antimicrobial treatment of textiles. As mentioned early, a wide range of organic antimicrobial agents are available for textiles treatment but out of these agents; triclosan, quaternary ammonium compounds, Polyhexamethylene Biguanide have been used on commercial scale. Polyhexamethylene Biguanide is slightly contaminated with poisonous concerns and hard to decompose in down streaming. In US Preregistration Eligibility Decision for PHMB by US Environment Protection Agency” the discharge of effluents containing PHMB is not allowed without mandatory treatment.
Eco-Friendly Antimicrobial Agents (Natural Plant and Fruit Extracts)
Plant extracts provided an attractive source of eco- friendly antimicrobial finish. The natural cure using plant extracts is increasingly receiving interest in the development of antimicrobial textiles. One of the plant-based sources is belong to Meliaceae family Neem (Azadirachtaindica); it is one of the most prominent from natural gifted sources of antimicrobial compound. All parts of neem are established for potential antimicrobial constituents. The extract from each part of the neem presented active antimicrobial effectiveness to block the proliferation of the bacteria. Currently, a small number of studies has demonstrated neem’ used for textiles to evaluate it antimicrobial activity. However, cotton and cotton/polyester blended fabric treatment with seed and bark extracts were reported [44-46]. Moreover, the cotton fabric imparted with neem leaf extract loaded nanoparticle [47]and synthesis of sliver nano-particles using extract of neem leaf for cotton treatment was also used [48]. Another plant-based source belongs to the Liliaceae family Aloevera (Aloe barbadensis), its leaf extract has antibacterial and antifungal potential and have been used for dressing gauzes, sutures and other medical textile applications [49,50]. Similar to neem applications in textiles, a few studies of aleovera application for cotton fabric treatment were articulated. However, more research is required. Antimicrobial finishing of cotton and cellulose fibers is significantly useful and important in medical textiles utilization [51]. One of the other plant-based sources is Ginkgo biloba or Ginkgoceae (Mantissa Plantarum Altera). Ginkgo biloba tree has flourished in jungles for more than 150-250 million years. It is assumed to be one of the aged living species on earth [52-54]. The standardized extract formulation of ginkgo leaf in used hold “5-7% ginkgolides and bilobalide (BB) [55]”. It is an excellent candidate for antimicrobial treatment of healthcare cotton textiles. The formulation of Ginkgo biloba extract standard values were forced because cyto-toxicity issues was reported beyond these limits [56-58]. Jang and Lee investigated ginkgo leaf extract antimicrobial activity for Tencel fabric in extract formulation containing silicon softer along with crosslinking agent.
The study concluded that Ginkgo Biloba extract is ecofriendly antimicrobial agent and their application was investigated in health and medicinal purposes. It is exclusively for non-toxicity characteristics linked with such other agents, it is potential candidate for antimicrobial finishing of institutional textiles range including home accessories and hospital bed sheet, nurses’ uniforms, surgical gown and drapes etc. [59]. The plant based natural fruit source reported for antimicrobial properties, the fruit-based source is Pineapple (Ananascomosus) juice was investigated against harmful microbes60. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated through agar diffusion method. Another plant base source reported is Papaya (Carica papaya). Its fleshy tissues hold three influential antioxidants i.e., vitamin A, C and E. Further, it contains stuff of proteolytic enzymes that have good antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi and virus. The papaya fruit seeds are spicy and very strong that yield them almost indigestible. These seeds have more potential pharmaceutical worth as compare to it’s the flesh and are effective against bacterial infection. The juice presented the excellent antimicrobial ability versus a number of gram native bacteria [60-63]. Moreover, the uses of both these fruit juices/ extracts were not reported to assess their biocide or bio-static activity.
The medicinal plants Clove (Eugenia caryophyllata), Falsedaisy (Eclipta alba), Leadwort (Plumbagozeylanica), and Mint (Mentha Arvenesis) parts were dried, powdered, grinded and extracted with solvents and applied through pad-drycure and microencapsulation techniques. The fabric samples were then subjected to antimicrobial testing and the bacterial growth was analyzed after 5, 10, 15 and 20 washing cycles. The antimicrobial activity of microencapsulated finish was effective till 15 wash cycles64. Several other plant base dyes are reported for their antimicrobial and antifungal activity such as Henna (Lawsoniainermis), Walnut and alkanet (Anchusa Tinctoria), curcumin, pomegranate, cutch, red onion peel and a mixture of red onion peel/curcumin (40 g/L, 50%)65. The extract of neem (Azadirachataindica), Lam (Buteamonosperma) and Gaetin (Litchi chinensis) trees was used to check antibacterial, antifungal activity and aesthetic properties (stiffness and appearance) of 100% silk fabric. It was confirmed that the formulation of antimicrobial finish improves the aesthetic properties. It is further reported that treated finished showed good/suitable/optimize results and 89% reduction in microbial growth was achieved up to 25 washes66. Application of the plant base dye-stuff is the art of imparting hues and tints to textile substrate. Dye-stuff or coloring matters acquired from natural resource are tested for antibacterial activity of the fabrics and results of the dyed fabrics presented these days have effective antibacterial activity. Although, synthetic dyes contain a range of vibrant color and are extensively used but now a day, natural dyes gaining interest because of strict environmental standard forced by a number of European states due to carcinogenicity and photosynthetic issues of synthetic dyes. Natural dyes are considered as eco-friendly, nontoxic, medicinal features [67]. The essential oil extracted from Rosemary (Rosmarinusofficinalis) and orange (Citrus sinensis) were obtained by steam distillation from rosemary vegetal mater and orange peel used to evaluate the antimicrobial activity for textile substrate (56% cotton/44% polyester) with concentration of 1%, 3% and 5%of each oil and antimicrobial activity was assessed against each strain. The demonstrated results support textiles functionalized with rosemary and orange essential oils, both are efficient active antimicrobial barriers with maximum reduction of 56.99% for rosemary and 92.48% reduction for orange essential oil [68].
Plant based Bamboo material is well known for their antimicrobial ability. In presented reported study focused to evaluate the antimicrobial property of plasma treated bamboo fabric imparted with combinatorial herbal extract. The knitted bamboo fabrics were rendered to plasma treatment at most appropriate setting to improve the hydrophilicity. The variations in the hydrophilic characteristics, physical and chemical changes of the plasma treated fabric were measured by using standard tests and combinatorial herbal powder was subjected to different solventextracts and their antimicrobial efficiency against pathogens were evaluated. The ethanol herbal extract presented higher antimicrobial activity against E. coli (12mm), S. aureus (14mm) for zone of inhibition and tests proved wash durability retained till 25 washes [69,70].
The chitosan and alginate have been used for antimicrobial finishing of textiles. Chitosan is derivate of chitin, water-soluble cellulose based. Chitin is a polysaccharide base on amino sugars. In an acid solvent amine component turn into quarterly amino unit that inhibits growth of microbes. Theses amino unit performs as shield to block protein and slow down proliferation by distracting cell membrane; this permit the substance to escape from bacterial cell, consequential results is death of the bacteria. Antimicrobial activity of chitosan was reported in many studies and it is widely accepted antimicrobial agent [71]. The β-Cyclodextrin, Chitosan citrate and β-Cyclodextrin/Grafted Chitosan with lavender essential oil were also used to evaluate the combined effect of fragrance and antimicrobial activity on cotton textiles through pad-dry method. The results discovered that β-CD was highly soluble in 0.6g/l NaOH solution and 80 gpl β-CD and 6% essential lavender oil solutions were found to be a most suitable combination for fragrance and antimicrobial property [72]. In another study, the most common polymers polypyrrole (PPy) was used with its environmental stability, ease of synthesis, exciting chemical, electrical, electrochemical and optical properties [73]. The antimicrobial activity of polypyrrole-graftchitosan copolymer was investigated by chemically synthesized, and then its composition and morphological characteristics were evaluated. The results discovered the strong interactions among polypyrrole and chitosan chains. Further, the electrical conductivity of chitosan increased to semi-conducting level by grafting. The thermal stability and crystallinity of polypyrrolegraft- chitosan copolymer increased while compared to chitosan. The copolymer was evaluated versus various bacterial and fungal strains at different concentrations and results achieved were evaluated with the reference antibiotics and it was pointed that the polypyrrole-graft-chitosan copolymer has stronger antibacterial activity than the polypyrrole and the chitosan alone; and it further increased at higher concentrations [74]. Monica Periolatto reported, the sound fastness and stability was attained with both photo-grafted chitosan and polypyrrole coating on textiles. It was proposed that a synergic impression of polypyrrole-chitosan finish, exploitable in textiles [75].

Challenges Associated with Plant Finishes
The chitosan is one of the recognized bioactive agents used on commercial scale for fabric antimicrobial finishing. On the other hand, its effectiveness is spoiled by a few factors. It depends on the chitosan molecular weight, pH value, ions intensity, add-on of non-aqueous solvents and the grade of deacetylation. Moreover, their treatments for textiles are efficient at maximum concentrations consequently reduce the air permeability of fabric and impart stiffness. Normally, herbal extracts including chitosan evaluated for their antimicrobial activity for textiles reported various issues, such as problem in extraction, separation of bioactive substances, textiles treatment with bioactive agents and the most important concern is poor finish durability after uses and during washing. Regardless of few most important challenges linked with plant based antimicrobial finishes, nevertheless these extract formulations are appealing with their non-toxic and environment friendly characteristics [76,77].

Role of Nanotechnology in Antimicrobial Finishing
Nanotechnology may provide finishes to combat infectious pathogens. Their application through nanotechnology engaged several parameters that control, manipulate and assemble nanoscale constituents to develop materials, systems or devices. Studies reported that the silver nano-particles exhibit excellent antimicrobial property versus microorganisms. For examples, the expedient use of antimicrobial metals such as zinc, copper and silver were incorporated into an FDA-approved polymer (polycaprolactone– PCL) to produce filaments. Hot melt extrusion was used to extrude pellets obtained by vacuum-drying of solutions of PCL and the different metals in order to manufacture metal-homogeneously-loaded filaments. Wound dressings with different shapes were produced with the filaments containing different concentrations of metals. The antibacterial efficacy of the wound dressings was tested using a thermal activity monitor system, revealing that silver and copper wound dressings had the most potent bactericidal properties [78].
Now a day, metal oxide nanoparticles (MeO-NPs) become a potential substitution to combat toxic infectious complaints and substantially resistant to different types of antibiotics [79]. ZnO particles nano-structured use on the cotton textile surface with different surfactants to stabilize, homogenize the coating and has improved the durability of ZnO NPs with decreased its leaching and showed the highest antibacterial and antifungal activities against different pathogenic bacterial and fungal species with high reduction reached over 90% [80]. Another technique used to investigate the antimicrobial property, i.e. application of Znonano-particle and use soluble starch as capping agents revealed that antimicrobial activity is oversee by the type of capping agents and results in achieved lower particle size of 3-5nm and higher antimicrobial rate as compared to other capping agents [81].
The use of Copper nano particle/nano-composite for antimicrobial ability in glycerol-polyvinyl alcohol matrix in gel and moldable plastic form proves that it can be produced and easily figured at high temperature. The materials show very good long-term stability in air, protecting the produced copper nano-particles from oxidation and proven inhibition of bacterial proliferation of both Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis bacteria in nano-composite existence [82]. Biocompatible nanogold (AuNPs) have gained considerable attention for potential applications in nano-medicine due to their characteristic size dependent chemical, electronic and optical properties and displayed antibacterial efficacy towards different bacterial species and the MIC was evaluated to be 960μL/ml against S. aureus [83].
To overcome the toxicity and washing durability problems associated with plant-based extracts, application of chitosanneem nano composites for development of antimicrobial cotton was used. Silver nanoparticles micro-gel based on poly-(N-isopropylacrylamide) and chitosan [84]; and chitosan nanoparticles loaded with Fe2+ or Fe3+ surfactant-assisted chitosan chelating Fe2+, Fe3+ and ionic gelation chitosan showed very high antimicrobial property at lower concentrations as compared to chitosan [85]. In another study, the results confirmed the biosynthesized AgNPsusing pre-hydrolysis liquor of Eucalyptus wood as effective growth inhibitors against microbes for various biomedical applications [86]. Further, Chitosan and acrylic acid bi-grafted polypropylene melt-blown nonwoven membrane immobilized with silver nanoparticles presented excellent antibacterial and hydrophilic properties [87].
Go to
Conclusion
An interesting variety of antimicrobial finishing agents is available. However, limitations are possible to provide acceptable performance, environment-friendly traits, and cost requirements. Majority of inorganic antimicrobial agents are poisonous, potential problem to degrade in environment, inhibited a limited range of microbes and possess poor laundering durability; but comparatively organic agents have lower adverse effects. The use of nano-particle has improved the efficiency of some of the present use antimicrobial agents and reduced the environmental issues associated with these agents (such as toxicity and washing durability) and exhibit excellent antimicrobial property versus microorganisms. Moreover, despite the washing durability challenge associated with natural plants based antimicrobial finishes; they are widely accepted antimicrobial agents for textiles finishing with their eco-friendly and non-toxic characteristics. Use of plant based nano-particle antimicrobial agents has been growing in many different fields primarily due to their advanced characteristics and protection against pathogens as comparison to conventionally used biocides and such value-added finishes may provide sustainable healthcare applications in textiles

A Very Good Chef’s Knife, a Salty Umbrella, and More Things to Buy This Week
It started with a dish rack. I don’t remember where I saw it first — maybe on Food52’s website. But I definitely know I saw it later — with its clean, straight edges, in muted gray, framed by elegant wood handles — at my friend’s house. It was sitting on her polished-wood countertops, beneath artfully arranged shelves and near a window through which sun poured onto it.
When your kitchen could look that lovely, how could you possibly settle for a lesser dish rack? Why buy a clunky, shiny black thing when you could have elegant, streamlined design sitting by your sink every day? Those were the questions with which I silently berated myself when I returned to my own (smaller, less sun-dappled) kitchen, questioning all my appliance choices.
The better question is: Since when did everything get to be so nice? Eliza Brooke explored the topic recently for Eater, attempting to understand how we’ve found ourselves paying $100 for rose gold trash cans and speckled ceramic sponge holders and garlic scrapers. Part of the answer is perfectly reasonable: There’s joy to be had from owning pretty things, particularly ones that you never realized could be so pretty. I love my smooth white Staub baking dish, which is a much nicer vehicle for serving food directly from the oven than a crusty Pyrex.
But sometimes the opportunity to upgrade can feel like an imperative. The moment I started questioning the aesthetic value of my dustpan and brush was when I decided to reel myself back. There’s nothing wrong with a sleek little dirt sweeper, and there’s something to be said for pleasing geometry. But I want to feel fine about my basic rubber tools and my occasionally dirtbag ways. Not every space of our lives — especially our kitchens — must be photo-worthy.
Things to buy
Between Harlem and Heaven: Afro-Asian-American Cooking for Big Nights, Weeknights, and Every Day, co-written by Eater Young Gun JJ Johnson (’14), explores the blending of Asian, African, and American flavors and was just nominated for a James Beard cookbook award.
Live out your dreams of being the Morton Salt Girl (or your dreams of owning an actually-nice umbrella that hopefully lasts more than four uses) with this Morton Salt umbrella, from the company’s surprisingly good merch collection.
It’s fair to be skeptical of Kickstarter projects, but the Misen chef’s knife, which began as a crowdfunded product back in 2015, is actually high quality and, as I can personally attest thanks to my wedding registry, enjoyable to use.
Shoes that you can wear while toiling in the kitchen prepping for a dinner party and to the dinner party itself? They’re rare to find, but Rothy’s flats fit the bill and are front-of-house approved.
Things to know
A thing you may start seeing soon, though I admittedly haven’t encountered it in the wild yet: “dynamic emails.” As the Verge describes it, “AMP for Gmail is designed to make emails feel more like an interactive webpage without punting users to a browser,” which means you could eventually click to buy something directly from your email without having to open a new tab. For now, only a few email senders have the capability, but Pinterest (!) is one of them.
News from the DTC cookware world: Nick Kokonas announced that the Alinea Group is investing in Made In Cookware and collaborating on products. (Not to be confused with Alison Roman’s advisor role with direct-to-consumer brand Material, or the other inevitable chef-DTC collabs that are yet to arrive…)
Your cotton tote bag (or if you’re like me, all 47 of your cotton tote bags) may not be as environmentally friendly as you thought. In fact, in terms of total environmental impact, classic plastic shopping bags are the least damaging, while you’d need to use your cotton tote 7,100 times to get that same “environmental performance.”
For those who missed the recent launch of Kourtney Kardashian’s lifestyle website, a Goop ripoff called Poosh (yes, really), here are some CliffsNotes: She’s on the organic wine train (with not-so-terrible picks, tbh); her Tokyo restaurant rec is Gonpachi, “the famous restaurant in the movie Kill Bill”; and she’s very excited about this great ingredient called turmeric.

Sulfur Black Dyes Size & Share to See Modest Growth Through 2026
Sulfur black dyes are high molecular weight polymeric compounds that are produced by the reaction of sulfur or sulfides with phenols and amines. They are commonly used in the dyeing industry owing to their cost effectiveness. Cotton-based textile companies are the key customers of sulfur black dyes. Various colorants that contain sulfur are available in the market; however, only those dyes that are soluble in water after reacting with sodium sulfides in alkaline conditions are considered actual sulfur black dyes. In alkaline conditions, sulfur black dye gets converted into leuco forms which is the soluble form and they show affinity to fibers. The commonly used reduced agents for the dyeing include sodium sulfhydrate, sodium polysulfide, glucose etc. Common salt when used with sulfur dyes acts as a catalyst. This facilitates the absorption process. Ease of application is the key benefit of the application of sulfur black dyes. These dyes can be used in cotton, nylon, and synthetics. Sulfur black dyes are highly complex. They consist of polysulfide and chromospheres side chains. The low water solubility is the basis of good wash –fastness of the dyed fabrics.

Sucreabeille Review Part 3
Hey y'all, guess who's back on their bullshit! Yeah, that's right, it's me. A lil' backstory: once upon a time, the owner of Suc offered me a coupon to explore her scent catalogue, and through various circumstances, I ended up coming into ownership of, at this point, thirty-fricken-four different scents of theirs. And i'm gonna review all of 'em, dang it.
PART 1 PART 2
So, with that out of the way, today i'll be going over Liquid Gold, Belladonna, Big Damn Heroes, Cersei, Stay Sexy, Shiny, Margaery Tyrell, and The Mountain.
LIQUID GOLD (PERFUME OIL) || Zanzibar spice, lavender fields, bergamot black tea.
IN THE BOTTLE: Smells like a smooth, elegant base with some tang to it and a bit of a floral buzz.
ON THE SKIN: This is lovely - definitely evokes the color gold when I give it a sniff. It’s an elegant, warm, grown-up scent: smooth, a touch tangy, and strangely... Wheaty? Yeasty? ...Earthy? It's hard to describe. On top of that is a beautiful hint of floral that smells almost fizzy. If I close my eyes and sniff it, I feel like i'm standing on rolling hills of golden grain with flowers in the distance. It reminds me of Alkemia's Silken Tent in how mature and stately it smells, despite not actually smelling like it.
Going over the notes, i'm certain that the zanzibar spice is responsible for that earthy quality, and the gentle, smooth, elegant, slightly tangy sweetness is from the bergamot tea - it's the exact same note from You're in a Cult, which I could pick out of a lineup if I had to. The lavender - that gentle floral sparkle - is detectable, but far from overwhelming, like it's just a scent being carried on a warm breeze. The phrasing 'lavender fields' is apt.
On the dry down, the 'tea' part of the bergamot tea comes out more and gives the scent a faint bitterness, and it stays like that until it fades to nearly-nothing around the 4 hour mark. It also wears fairly close to the skin.
RATING: 4.7/5. This is in my top three Suc scents, but i'm docking it a teensy bit for fading kinda fast.
--
BELLADONNA (PERFUME OIL) || A freshly picked red rose, old leather, white musk.
IN THE BOTTLE: Cold, black, kinda wet leather. Very chlorine-smelling.
ON THE SKIN: This is all leather and musk to me. It's a deep, cold, black leather smell - the kind that I frequently think of as smelling like inky-black rain. It's a strange, empty scent, that's pretty reminiscent of chlorine, as mentioned before. In my notes I described it as 'a haunting scent for the dead'. If you've smelled Alkemia's The Raven - it's very reminiscent of that. (I've said the same thing in my review of Suc's Let's Be Bad Guys - if they don't share the same leather note, they're certainly very similar!)
Combined with the musk note, this scent ends up smelling like old books: musty, dusty, hardback leather book covers. At no point do I smell anything remotely rose-like - though I do get the teensiest bit of stemmy green-ness.
Dries down to... Well, basically the same scent, honestly. I was hoping the rose would come out more, but it's still inky leather and musk. It had some okay sillage when wet, and five and a half hours later + one scrubbing with dish soap, I can still clearly detect it on my wrist.
RATING: 3/5. I wish I picked up on the rose more, and i'm not wild about the musk, but I've got a soft spot for that inky black leather smell.
--
BIG DAMN HEROES (PERFUME OIL) || Rain, salt spray, green fig, warm meadow sun.
IN THE BOTTLE: Fresh-scented soap, with a little green-ness.
ON THE SKIN: This smells kinda like a beachy-scented suave brand conditioner. Mellow, pretty, refreshing-smelling soap. The thing at the forefront is definitely a mixture of the rain and the salty spray, which ends up just smelling like, well, saltwater - but not necessarily oceanic saltwater, so much as tap water mixed with salt. There's a touch of green-ness, but it less stands out as its own note and more just blends in with everything else.
After about three hours, it fades enough that I have a hard time telling the difference between my skin and the scent. It did have a lot of sillage, though, and it smelled really nice from a distance - refreshing, and I could detect some sweetness from the fig.
In my notes, I originally described it as smelling like this image looks, and... Yeah, basically.
RATING: 2.5/5. Nothing particularly special to me.
--
CERSEI (PERFUME OIL) || White thyme, freshly ground black pepper, black jasmine, amber.
IN THE BOTTLE: Hardcore dry herbs with a little bit of floral underneath it, barely detectable.
ON THE SKIN: First time I tried this, my immediate thought was, holy crap, why does this smell exactly like oregano of all things? Dried oregano, specifically. I'm now fairly certain it's the thyme + black pepper combination, as I have another scent with those same notes (Shiny, but we'll get to that), that starts off almost the same. I don't detect anything that reads jasmine-y, or even floral, to me, and after about ten minutes of wear, I get an extremely subtle sweetness from the amber.
On the drydown, I start getting a hint of something that smells kinda... Minty? All notes are present as it wears on, though the thyme definitely mellows out some.
Has a whole lotta sillage, and it wears strongly on my wrist for a pretty dang long time.
RATING: 2/5. I don't particularly care for the thyme + black pepper combination, and I wish the other notes came through more.
--
STAY SEXY (PERFUME OIL) || Tahitian vanilla, rich honey, fresh grapefruit.
IN THE BOTTLE: Zingy, poppy grapefruit. Makes me think of neon yellows, pinks and purples. I like!
ON THE SKIN: I had a weird experience with this. The first time I ever wore it, it smelled almost exactly like Hexennacht's Daemon on me - like super sweet bubblegum. (Daemon does not normally go bubblegummy, but it sure as heck did on me - you can read more about that here.) This is not, logically, an issue, since Stay Sexy is kind of... A bubblegummy scent. Has some very sweet, tangy notes. The problem is, since it smelled so similar to a scent that I had not liked, because Daemon was not supposed to smell like that... I, by association, didn't like this.
The good news is, after a super long period of rest, it's gotten better.
It starts out bubblygummy still, but the grapefruit quickly comes out more and gives the scent a lovely bright and sour edge. The vanilla and honey still make it sweet and foody, but not cloyingly so, and the honey isn't overwhelming, which i'm so so thankful for - strong honey scents are, mm, unpleasant to me. Here, it just blends with the vanilla really well.
On the drydown, it becomes a smooth, creamy vanilla scent that I actually really like. It's sort of simple, but this would probably be nice to layer with things. Decent sillage - I could detect it faintly from a distance when it's wet. Disappears around the 4 hour mark.
RATING: 3.5/5. Objectively not bad smelling - in fact, i'd even say I like it - but it's simple in a way that doesn't quite interest me.
--
SHINY (PERFUME OIL) || Grapefruit, bergamot, white thyme, dalmation sage, black pepper.
IN THE BOTTLE: Kinda subdued herbs and something that smells dirty/earthy.
ON THE SKIN: He-eey, white thyme and black pepper, guess what this smells liiike :^)
Forreal though, when I first tried this, it had the same Oregano™ smell as Cersei, but after a good long while of rest, that's calmed down a little, though it still smells like some extremely buzzy herbs. There's also an undercurrent of citrus to it that I managed to pick up on a blind sniff, though I did have to be really concentrating to notice it.
On the drydown, hey, there's that subtle minty smell again! 90% sure it's the thyme after getting it in two different scents. Aaaand... Yep, stays that way for the next three hours, at which point it disappears. Basically? Cersei, but with some very faint citrus, and slightly less oregano-y. Maybe I just amp herbaceous smells real hard. Wears pretty close to the skin.
RATING: 2.5/5. Not wild about this one, but it gets half a point for having detectable citrus.
--
MARGAERY TYRELL (PERFUME OIL) || A freshly popped bottle of champagne; ripe, juicy peach; crisp cotton sheets; an English rose garden; moonlight pomegranate; herbaceous sage; neroli.
IN THE BOTTLE: Mmmm not good. Something very... It's weird, it's like acrid and chemical-y. Makes me think of the smell of bile, but cleaner.
ON THE SKIN: This was pretty when I first tried it. Sparkly champagne, a little soapy from the cotton sheets, a little peachy, ever-so-faintly floral... Bright, fizzy with a smooth undercurrent, and femme. I liked it a lot.
And then resting happened, and, what the hell?
I put it on, and it quickly went very, very bad on me. Like. I hate to use words like this to describe a scent, but it was acrid in a way that brings 'burning garbage' or 'vomit' to mind. I'm fairly certain it's a combination of the champagne, the sage, and maybe the peach - I've noticed some peach notes tend to go this kind of acrid on me in other scents, but it's more subtle than this. This is like... A perfect storm of bad. Which is unfortunate.
After five minutes, the sage note dries down, so it's better, but not great. In my notes, I called it 'slightly rancid champagne; champagne and piss'. After 30 minutes, it finally becomes something wearable: champagne and very faint peach, with a bit of laundry detergent... But it's also extremely light. I can barely smell it.
RATING: 1/5. The dry-down is okay, if not nearly nonexistent, but boy. Boy those first 30 minutes are hellish.
--
THE MOUNTAIN (EAU DE PARFUM) || Amber, a pint of oatmeal stout, pure golden honey.
IN THE BOTTLE: Hard to place. Almost smells like gingerbread - warm, sweet, and a little spicy, but it's kinda faint.
ON THE SKIN: I knew I would love this, and hey! What a surprise, I do. More than I even expected to, actually. The oatmeal stout note is killer: genuinely smells like warm, comforting, buttery oatmeal with brown sugar, cinnamon, and a little splash of booze. The honey's super subtle--hooray--but detectable, complimenting the oatmeal stout beautifully, giving it that honey tang.
And then it starts to dry down, and, oo la la, that amber. Resinously sweet, a little earthy, a little spicy. Gives this scent some complexity without losing the comforting foody notes from earlier.
This scent is rich, warm, a little creamy, and just... Tasty. I really, really like it. It wears strong on my wrist, but doesn't have a ton of sillage, and was still faintly detectable the morning after I put it on, so. Good longevity.
RATING: 5/5. The good stuff. Another top 3 scent from Suc.
--
And thats, woof, another part down. Next part should be the final one (unless I like, decide to divide it in half or something idk), and will feature: Nightshade; Sansa; Three-Eyed Raven; Papa's Waffles; Embalming Fluid; Bohemian; Briar Rose; Firefly; Troll Food; and Strawberry Milkshake.
...maybe I should divide that in half. Hm. We'll see.

New Post has been published on http://healingawerness.com/getting-healthy/getting-healthy-women/30-elegant-mother-of-the-bride-hairstyles/
30 Elegant Mother-Of-The-Bride Hairstyles
Anjali Sayee January 9, 2019
You love her, you raised her, and now, it’s her big day!
Hello, mom of the bride! As the big day is coming closer, you have gone through that checklist of wedding duties. I’m sure you’ve picked a stunning outfit and shoes to go with it, but what about your hair? Oh no, did you forget about it? Don’t worry, I’ve got your back! Since you have a ton of things to do, I’m going to ease your mind a bit and help pick a hairstyle that will complete your beautiful ensemble. Check out these 30 charming hairstyles that are perfect for the mom of the bride!
30 Elegant Mother-Of-The-Bride Hairstyles
1. Big Soft Curls
Shutterstock
Simple doesn’t have to mean boring. Simple can also be very elegant – just like this hairstyle Cate Blanchett is flaunting. Get those big soft curls by wrapping the ends of your hair around a round brush and blow drying them. Don’t forget to spritz on hairspray to set the curls in place!
2. Short Pixie With Side-Swept Bangs
Shutterstock
If you have short hair, consider getting this pixie haircut with dramatic side-swept bangs. It looks chic and barely requires any time to style. If you have thick hair, this hairstyle will showcase its volume very well. The uneven sculpted bangs add oomph to the whole look.
3. The Classic Side Sweep
Shutterstock
You can never go wrong with the classic side sweep hairstyle. It’s as easily achieved as it sounds. Simply sweep all your hair to on one side and pin it at the back to keep it in place. The side sweep looks great when paired with side-swept bangs on the opposite side.
4. Low Bun With Side-Swept Bangs
Shutterstock
If classy is what you’re looking for, look no further. Leaving out your bangs, tie all your hair into a low bun. Curl the ends of the side-swept bangs, and finish off the look with a hit of hairspray.
5. Slick Straight Lob
Shutterstock
Sophistication is an art that needs to be mastered. This lob has captured it well. This is a graduated lob with slightly feathered ends. If your hair is not naturally straight, use a straightening iron to give yourself that slick straight curve.
6. Big Smooth Curls
Shutterstock
Your hair becomes weaker as you age. So, instead of using heat styling tools to achieve those flawless curls, opt for velcro rollers. You’ll have to keep them on for a while, but the results are worth the wait.
7. Brown-Blonde Combo
Shutterstock
Coloring the roots of your blonde locks a deep brown shade can add dimension to your hair and face shape. Choose a shade of brown that suits your skin’s undertone. You can pair this color blend with a pixie cut to transform into a badass mom!
8. Curved Out Ends
Shutterstock
A simple touch can go a long way in making you look gorgeous. For instance, the curved ends here transform this regular medium-length layered haircut completely. Apply some mousse to your hair, making sure to start at the ends. Wrap the ends of your hair halfway around a round hair brush and blow dry them on a low setting to create the curve.
9. Flowy Curls
Shutterstock
Apply some heat protectant and curl your hair from the ear down. This will give your curls a natural and flowy feel. Take this look a notch higher by adding some color to your blonde locks and giving it a dimensional look.
10. The Bouffant High Ponytail
Shutterstock
Brush your hair to remove all the knots and tangles. Take the hair at the crown and tease it to create volume. You can also use a small chignon maker if you don’t like teasing your hair. Comb the front of the crown section neatly and pin it at the back to form a bouffant. Gather the rest of your hair and tie it in a high ponytail.
11. Elegant Curly Updo
Shutterstock
Elegance and romance come together to create this great hairstyle. Part your hair on one side and curl it. Leaving out the hair at the front, tie all your hair in a neat low bun. Let the ends fall out to give it that soft romantic look.
12. Kinky Curls Afro
Shutterstock
Embrace your naturally kinky curls with this stunning afro. Apply curl-defining cream your hair, divide it into small sections, and tie them in Bantu knots. Tie a satin scarf or a thin cotton t-shirt around your head and leave it on overnight. Untie your hair in the morning and fluff it to create this gorgeous afro.
13. Flicked-Out Bangs
Shutterstock
Angela Bassett never seems to age! Get these flicked-out bangs to look youthful at your daughter’s wedding. They look great with a variety of outfits, from open-neck gowns to smart pantsuits.
14. Blow-Dried Bob
Shutterstock
Add some lift to your hair to give it more volume. Wash your hair and blow dry it on a low setting. Brush your hair upward with a round brush while doing so. Brush your bangs forward with the round brush beneath your hair to give it some lift.
15. Go Natural
Shutterstock
Have you always been complimented for your hair? Flaunt your natural locks then! Just make a small change to change your look. For instance, instead of parting your hair as you naturally would, part it on a different side. This will add volume to your hair.
16. Beachy Curls
Shutterstock
Now, this is a hairstyle that’s perfect for a beach wedding. Add some light blonde highlights to your hair to give it dimension and texture. Then, curl your hair and brush it out to give it a more natural look. Finish off with a few spritzes of sea salt spray to give your hair that naturally tousled look.
17. Soft Bob
Shutterstock
Wash your bobbed hair and brush it down while blow drying it. This will give it a soft touch. Pair this style with natural makeup, and you’ll look stunning! The beauty of this simple hairdo is that it shows off your natural facial features.
18. Big Hair
Shutterstock
Tease all your hair at the top and smooth it down to achieve this look. Style your hair in big curls from the ear down. This hair look is perfect for those mums whose daughters want them to look fashion forward at the wedding.
19. Retro Rolls
Shutterstock
Everyone loves a good retro roll updo. This flapper hairstyle was designed to make long hair appear short since short hair was the fad back in the ‘20s. Style your hair in some nice big curls and spritz on some hairspray. Brush your hair, so the curls look flowy and vintage. Fold your hair inward and pin it at the back. Style your hair at the front in a dramatic side sweep.
20. Low Updo With Deep Side Swept Bangs
Shutterstock
Style your hair in some waves with the help of a straightening iron. Part your hair at the front in a deep side-swept parting. Gather all your hair and wrap it in a low bun on one side. This is, by far, the most sophisticated mother-of-the-bride hairstyle.
21. Silky Layered Bob
Shutterstock
If you have silky hair (lucky you!), get this layered bob. The layers will showcase your silky straight hair in all its glory. They will also flaunt the thickness of your hair. This is a great hairstyle for framing your face and drawing the attention to your eyes.
22. Big Messy Curls
Shutterstock
Recreate this stunning hairstyle with velcro rollers and hairspray. The beauty of this hairstyle lies in its messiness. You don’t want your hair to be so messy that it looks like you walked through a storm. At the same time, you don’t want your hair combed down too neatly.
23. Big Side-Swept Curls
Shutterstock
Just because you are the mother of the bride does not mean that you need to look simple. Jazz up your look with this old Hollywood-inspired side-swept hairstyle. After all, it’s not every day that your daughter gets married!
24. Au Naturel
Shutterstock
Sometimes, sticking to your regular hairstyle is all you need to look perfect. Amp it up with some light makeup and chic jewelry. This simple yet pretty hairstyle looks best on a long flowy gown.
25. Curly Locks

Natural, well-defined curls always look good. Wash your hair and let it air dry until it is damp. Apply some curl defining cream to your locks. Tie your curly hair in a pineapple ponytail and wrap it in a silk scarf, leaving it on overnight. You will wake up the next morning with really amazing curls.
26. Faux Undercut Curls

If you’re looking for a hairstyle with a little bit of edge, this is it. Part your hair on one side. Curl your hair in big chunks, apply some mousse, and comb down the side that does not have the deep side sweep. This will give it a faux undercut look.
27. Curly Low Side Bun

Brush your hair to remove all knots. Spritz on some heat protectant on your tresses and curl the ends, about an inch or two. Wrap your hair in a low side bun, leaving out the curled ends to neatly fall over the bun. Curl the bangs in the front to romanticize the look.
28. The Messy Parting

The messy parting is great for creating an effortlessly chic look. If you have straight hair, comb your hair down neatly. If you have curly hair, consider straightening your hair as it will help you achieve that slick look.
29. Low Side Ponytail

Michelle Yeoh must have a fountain of youth hidden in her house. If you want to look youthful like her, try out this hairstyle. Curl your hair and create a bouffant at the top. Leave out your bangs and tie the rest of your hair up in a low ponytail. Part your bangs down the middle to finish off this chic look.
30. Sleek Top Knot

Demi Moore is absolutely slaying with this edgy hair look! Apply some mousse to your comb and comb down your hair. Part your hair down the middle. Leave out a thin section of hair on either side to frame your face. Tie the rest of your hair in a high top knot.
