Custard III and the paladin’s shadow

Custard Cookie III once aspired to be a king. But when the king he looked up to became a penitent beast, he questioned if he was truly worthy of such a title. What if, no matter how hard he tried to face adversity with his strength and his friends, he too ended up hurting those he cared about?

Madeleine Cookie would assure him with a beam in his voice. The times were tumultuous, but with the power of hope, community, and the determination to fight, there was nothing they couldn’t do in the shadow of the beasts. The knight commander heralded that hope for everyone in the Crème Republic. Custard III, nephew of its Consul, clung to it for all of his younger years. Back then, he never saw a blemish in Madeleine Cookie’s heroic demeanor and admired his resilience when everyone around him struggled to pick up the pieces.

But now he’s a little older, and he’s begun to realize that he was oblivious to the paladin’s behavior. Behavior that seems… off, in a way he can’t explain. Is it his integrity, his behavior when he thinks no one else is around? Is it the weight of his loss that has finally gotten to him? Is it the fact he disappears into thin air, returning a long time later with emptiness in his eyes? There’s something about Madeleine that Custard III wants—needs—to understand. When one of the brightest lights of hope flickers, what does it mean for everyone who looks to it? And more importantly, what can be done to help him?

Perhaps it’s time the adolescent cookie sought those answers out. Perhaps he was never meant to follow him.

So why does Grey Pearl live in the Republic? And does she have any relationship with Cookies outside Lily, either good or bad?

Well, here's another important and slightly traumatic detail.

Lily's palace, where many cookies and so on lived… was destroyed by Dark Enchantress before going to the Vanilla Kingdom.

Those who escaped were very few, among them were Light Cream, Grand Madeleine, Grey Pearl and some of the tribe that Royal Margarine belonged to (maybe I'll explain this later).

And yes, that means that Golden Cheese Kingdom is safe.

Those who did not escape are under a special spell, their bodies were turned into butterflies that now reside in the ruins.

Grey Pearl escaped through the sea, her imposed punishment prevented her from swimming fast, so she just let herself be dragged by the current and was swept into the depths of the sea, there she screamed and cried as much as she could knowing that Lily was dead, she lamented for not saving her.

When she finished crying and lamenting, she slowly crawled through the waters, it took her a long time before she found dry land, luckily the current guided her towards the newly formed republic.

There she saw Light Cream and Grand Madeleine again, since then the three of them have remained close and talk about the future of the republic and Dark Enchantress, the three of them are still loyal only to Lily.
