SAINT OF THE DAY (December 19)
In the persecution of Decius, Nemesion, an Egyptian, was apprehended at Alexandria upon an indictment for theft.
The servant of Christ easily cleared himself of that charge but was immediately accused of being a Christian.
After being scourged and tormented more than the thieves, he was condemned to be burnt with the robbers and other malefactors, whereby he had the honour and happiness more perfectly to imitate the death of our Divine Redeemer.

"Listen." The villain grabbed the hero's arm. "I'm on a tight leash here."
The hero's mouth curled into a smile. "You mind repeating that?"
But the villain was quite serious, although their grip around the hero's forearm loosened.
"They will kill me if anything happens to you, you know that," the villain said.
"Womp womp."
The villain laughed hollowly and stared at the hero in disbelief.
"You're unbelievable."
Their nemesis had always been an incredibly unserious person - and an annoying one - but ever since the villain had been captured and assigned to protect them, it had gotten worse. Somehow, the villain couldn't blame them. The hero was, after all, a secretive person who didn't need any type of surveillance.
"I don't need a bodyguard," the hero said. They bobbed their head confidently. "I am not the best ranked hero in the entire city for nothing."
"Come on, don't be cocky now. I wouldn't be here if the agency actually believed that," the villain said and they meant every word. It was a kind of community service that was meant to reform the villain. Protecting people, watching the hero work - they assumed that was the goal of this entire operation.
However, the hero made it very easy to dislike heroes in general. They had a big mouth, viewed themselves as some kind of saint and (arguably) the worst thing above all: they also looked good while doing it.
The hero let out a big sigh and started stretching, followed by a yawn and a bored expression. It was clear that the hero wanted to fall into the bed of the shared hotel room and sleep until the afternoon.
"Little piece of advice?" They sat down on the bed. "Don't read too much into it. I doubt they know what they are doing themselves."
"They are in charge of internal security, they should know what they are doing."
"You think it's smart to put two nemeses in a hotel room with only one bed?" the hero asked. They wiggled with their eyebrows and all the villain could do was roll their eyes. "This agency is a real shit show and everyone smart enough should stay as far away from them as possible."
"I have no choice in that matter. You die, I die too. They will find a way to blame me. I'm supposed to jump in front of you when people shoot at you. I am nothing more than a human shield."
"Gorgeous human shield."
"I'm flattered," the villain said flatly. They took in a deep breath and let themselves fall next to the hero on the bed. They put their head in their hands and rubbed their face. If the hero continued to be reckless, if they continued to be so stupidly bold, the villain would start to feel the consequences pretty quickly.
"Don't be. I'm merely observing objective beauty."
"Ugh. Fuck off." The villain squeezed their eyes shut. They needed to think. If the agency was experimenting on them, the villain was meant to be the test subject which meant the agency wanted to control them.
The villain knew they had implanted a chip in them which tracked heartbeat and location. The only question now was: how was the agency going to kill them? Was the chip responsible? Was it something else?
"You're worrying so much, no wonder you are always so grumpy." The villain raised their head and before they could answer, the hero's hand was already on their back, delicate fingertips digging into sensitive spots. The villain bit back a moan and pulled back gently.
"Let's not...complicate things."
"Of course not," the hero said. "But honestly, don't break that head of yours trying to figure out their next plan. They won't kill you until absolutely necessary and I am very good at taking care of myself. So unless you are very incompetent - which you are not - you are good for now."
"For now," the villain echoed. They had to admit, the hero's fingertips had felt good on their back. They had never expected the hero to be capable of being serious enough to try comforting the villain. If it even was what they had tried to achieve.
As the villain looked at them, they couldn't help but concentrate on their jawline. On the darker colours of their eyes. Their fingers. Those damn fingers.
The villain hadn't recovered from that quite yet and they started to regret their words. They knew the hero flirted often, but they weren't sure how much of it was boredom and how much was real.
And even if something was to happen tonight, the agency would know about an increased heartbeat in the middle of the night in the shared hotel room.
Which in the worst case, they would interpret as a fight.
But it was more likely that they wouldn't.
The villain bit the inside of their cheek. Shit, they needed to concentrate. The hero always threw them off their game.
"Did they chip you?" the villain asked.
The hero pulled up their sleeve and very suddenly the villain realised that they had never seen this arm naked. And they understood why - the entire forearm was covered in scar tissue.
"The better question is: how many times did they try?" the hero said. They covered their arm quickly again and cocked their head. "The agency learns pretty slowly but they realised eventually I wasn't willing to play any games. When dumb people get a fraction of power, no matter how small, they will abuse it."
The hero had never been this serious before. Not with the villain. And the villain could do nothing but stare as the hero casually told them how much the agency truly sucked.
"It's inevitable. But when it comes down to it, who is stronger? Some written words on a paper or a true superhero? These people are just people and I was sick of listening to someone tell me where to go or what to wear or what to say or whom not to save. I wanted to save as many people as possible. And that's exactly what I am doing now. Without someone monitoring my body or actions."
"And yet, you're with the agency," the villain pointed out.
"I made a deal with them. I will play nice with them in public and in return...they are keeping someone safe for me."
"A lover?"
"I wouldn't share this bed with you if I had a lover. And I wouldn't say the things I say to you," the hero said. They stared at their own hands and the villain saw little scars all over them. Like a messily woven rug. "It's my sibling. Outside of the country, I didn't want them to grow up here. But...yeah. They write me every week."
The hero smiled but they didn't seem to be happy.
"I'm not allowed to write back. Ever. I know it's better that way, but...I know they will forget me eventually."
The villain didn't say anything. They had never thought the hero would tell them something like this. And they had never expected them to go beyond their cocky persona. It was a little more than strange to hear this from someone whose main priority was flirting during battle.
"Maybe it's hypocritical of me. To say all of this and yet I am working with them to protect my sibling and pretend to be on good terms with them, but for my family, I am gladly the sinner. I would become the enemy to protect them."
"That's very admirable," the villain said. And it was. It was impressive. It was horribly understandable, too. "You're very special, I hope you're aware of that. You're a good person."
And now, the villain couldn't really hate them anymore. They couldn't even find a reason to. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
They took in another deep breath and tried for the last time today to think clearly.
"I appreciate that you told me this. But I think it’s late and we both need some res-"
"I know, I know, darling. Take good care of my secret, though. Or I’m afraid I’ll have to kill your pretty ass," the hero said. They pursed their lips.
"You're welcome to try." The villain had to grin.
"Hm, tempting…not right now, though.” They leaned over and traced the villain's collarbone with their index finger. "Or the poor agency will think we are doing worse things than fighting. Those chips are scarily precise when it comes to counting beats per minute."
Great minds and all.

Hey, Master, why do you want a dragon soul? They're just scaley lizards that breathe fire sometimes.
"Surely you are unaware they are either divine or nemeses of the saints of God. It is less about their shape and what they can breathe and more the standing they hold within nature and above humans. Some are even agents of heaven or incarnations of emperors. And in some worlds, they truly are keepers of worlds and their orders, or are gods themselves.
"Dragon souls are more valuable than you think. But I am not one to foolishly attempt at Huánglóng, Naga, Yamata no Orochi, Láwû, Tarasque, Smok Wawelski, or even the likes of Smaug, Loptous, or Neltharion. At least... not at the moment."
#stop making me want to make a blog for my own dragon OCs#a good chunk of them are too big to RP with LMAO#as in#big enough to hold the Earth in their palms#[The Master]#religion tw

You've worked hard at being a third-string supervillain; the motif of an extravagantly over-the-top tailor staging crimes for the sake of fashion took years of study. Your mundane identity really is a fairly popular clothing designer, and it amuses you that some of your regular opponents wear costumes you designed for them.
Everyone knows that your power is what keeps you safe, letting you yank on capes and sleeves, trip people with their leggings, and so on. You make a point of using elegant, high-quality fabric on you that you dramatically use to open locks, and otherwise play up that you command fabric.
Which is why it's absolutely galling to have an 18-year-old woman sitting in your office at your mundane place of work, showing you her notes on how your powers actually work. Your real powers, the ones you carefully keep from being displayed. the ones that let you manipulate anything that has been considered a fabric. Fate. Space-time. The very structure of reality.
She's been going for nearly half an hour now, and the only reason you haven't locked her away in a pocket reality is that she swore she wasn't her to reveal you, earnestly enough that you think you might believe her.
"-what really tied it together for me was how ideal all your nemeses are for fighting you as the Tailor, though." She's enthusiastic, you have to give her that. "Most hero-villain matchups that happen, they're fairly well-suited to fight each other, because of course the best hero for the task is going to settle out as a primary opponent. Yours are too good, though."
She has a PowerPoint, gods help you, and goes through the saint's gallery of your opponents, listing each one and their abilities off. "-and then there's your main adversary, Chromatica, right? Color magic, which she only manifests as weapons. Everything about her life that I've found points to her being on the road to villainy, until she moved to this city and all her fortunes took a turn, starting when she came here for a work outfit. And now she rides around on a pair of magic shears, a happy low-grade hero doing good deeds and foiling your plans."
Dammit. She's right. Too many people too, well, tailored to your persona. Nothing you did consciously, but... "All right, I give." You raise a hand. "You have enough evidence to reveal what I can really do to the entire world, if they're willing to look at it - which also means you know that if you tried, a fold in reality would make you a ghost. So why are you sitting here?"
"Because I'm Candela. Everyone thinks I manipulate light to create illusions, right?" You stare at her; she's nearly a third of a foot too short, and easily twice the bulk of her heroic alter-ego. She's crossed paths with you incidentally a couple of times, and while illusions can do a lot, they can't disguise the reality of a person.
"You're not an illusionist and more than I'm just a tailor, are you?" Nothing of Candela's powers show any of the usual signs of transformation or transfiguration powers. Which means if she's not doing illusions...
"I bend reality, just in a different way than you can. The whole 'seeing is believing' thing, you know? I can make reality be something else for a while. Sometimes permanently. I-" She pauses, and takes a breath to steady herself. "When I was a kid, I replaced my parents. My birth ones. I've tried real hard not to do anything like that since, and worked hard to just be an illusionist, outside of being someone else when I'm in costume."
She takes another deep breath. "I want to be your sidekick. Or henchgal. Whatever the term is. Because I don't think I can change you, and that means you can keep me from changing things that shouldn't."
---
If you liked this flash fiction bit, maybe toss me a tip? It goes to feeding my cats and paying the bills.
You were shamed for having a weak power called Fabric Manipulation. However it didn’t exactly specify which fabrics you can manipulate.

“Delivering Mail By Cliff Racer, or: How To Make Your Enemies Suffer”
“Delivering Mail By Cliff Racer, or: How To Make Your Enemies Suffer” by Anonymous
-
I shall make no disclaimer trying to dissuade you. If you have come far enough to obtain this book, I trust there is little anyone could do to deter you. That said, the art of sending letters and packages via cliff racer is a dangerous one to the uninitiated. This book aims to initiate you, and warn you how best to handle the challenges ahead. I recommend you read to the end of this tome, as I shall attach as postscript a list of materials you will need or want in order to accomplish this feat. Note that either sufficient magical prowess or access to adequate scrolls will be absolutely necessary for this task. It is simply impossible without the aid of wizardry.
-
The origins of this spiteful tradition lie in time immemorial, in the first days of the Great Houses, as proud Chimer rose from the ash to the height of glory. Those first days were no less fraught with House warfare than any other. But of course, sometimes you have foes who are of a middling nature, worth not challenge nor writ, but nonetheless repugnant and aggravating. For the worst of these, simple insults would not do. My ancestors (and now yours, dear reader) devised a system of assaulting nemeses with messages delivered by vicious cliff racers. No great masters of the art remain but I, and so I share its practice with you.
I shall say this only once, but it is paramount: You will not be taming a cliff racer. Their rage can be no less assuaged than can yours, dear reader. Your goal is only to direct it towards your enemies.
The first and most crucial step is to acquire a cliff racer suitably placated or subdued. There are many methods. My preference is a spell my mother’s mother devised, that can at range paralyze a target. But, of course, were that the entirety of the process, the racer would simply crash to the ground and perish. The genius of the spell I use is that it also applies a gentle buoyancy effect, allowing the racer’s limp body to gracefully descend to the ground.
Such a spell may be difficult to replicate without the aid of a talented spellwright, so a simpler option may be to cast both effects separately, either by scroll or your own power. Of course, if you are of poor aim, it may be difficult to land the spells upon such a moving aerial target, and ascertaining where the racer might land in the craggy hills they frequent might also be troublesome. Therefore, you may wish to attract its attention so that it shall come closer before you cast. But do not wait until the last minute; while a cliff racer may at first seem to descend leisurely, it can suddenly swoop to attack as it nears its target.
Of note are other alternatives, such as a calming or tranquilizing spell, but it is recommended you avoid both. For us to give the cliff racer its target, it is best it stay awake while subdued. As for using Calm, you would struggle to get the cliff racer to the ground, as it would be no doubt content to stay high in the sky. Furthermore, it is very likely that when you cast Fury to give the racer its target, it might immediately shake off your Calm spell, putting you in grave danger.
Additionally, the very brave and very magically talented may attempt to do their business in midair, placing a levitation effect on their placating spell, and using their own Rising Force to climb to its place in suspension. This is difficult and magically draining, but no doubt impressive. Be very sure that you properly calculate the timing of both spells, so that neither you nor the racer fall to your deaths. Also be wary of dropping anything.
When you have finally subdued your fierce letter-carrier, you are ready to give it your letters or packages. This is not difficult to do, as there is ample space on the cliff racer’s body where you can tie your items, or glue them with resin. Try to avoid attaching anything to the wings, as it can adversely affect the racer’s ability to fly.
You may also wish, if you truly despise your recipient, to force the racer to consume your items, preferably in a container resistant to its gizzards and digestive juices, so that they will need to carve into the cliff racer to obtain your message. Your container should be made to glow or make sound even through the racer’s flesh, so as to attract the recipient’s curiosity. The former can be done cheaply enough by slathering the container with the pulp of Luminous Russula mushrooms or Coda Flower blooms. The latter is usually best done magically. When using this method, do be wary that the cliff racer may attempt to regurgitate the items before it reaches its victim. It may, however, vomit your contents at your target’s feet. It is not unprecedented, and also very humorous, that it may vomit your message directly upon your target as it prepares to attack.
The next stage of the process involves assigning our recipient to the cliff racer. The cliff racer’s power of scent is legendary, and were they less cantankerous, they would make excellent trackers. Therefore, you must somehow discretely acquire an item bearing the foul scent of your enemy. This must be introduced to the racer’s nose while you cast another spell, commonly known as “Fury.” While this spell usually makes its target susceptible to attacking any nearby creature or individual, our application of a particular smell will focus the beast’s rage solely upon that smell’s owner.
Note that while you still possess said odorous artifact, you might easily be identified by the cliff racer’s potent olfactory sense as the source of the smell. It is recommended you douse yourself and the item thoroughly with Telvanni Bug Musk after you finish, but before the cliff racer snaps out of its daze or paralysis. Do not think simply discarding the item will do the trick, as while cliff racers are perceptive, they are not very intelligent, and may simply savagely attack the item instead of your target.
As the final part of your mission, after the payload is armed and aimed, you must do one more thing: run away very quickly, and pray to your preferred saint. It is critical that your spell of Paralyze or Calm must be long enough for you to do what is needed, and then some, so that you can put a great distance between yourself and the cliff racer before the effect wears off. Be wary to also ensure your Fury spell is long enough for the cliff racer to find its target. This depends, of course, on how far it must travel to reach them; as such, long distance deliveries are often impractical due to the inherent cost of such a lengthy spell. But you may be surprised how fast a cliff racer can fly when it is on a specific rampage.
-
P.S. As promised, I shall provide a specific checklist of required materials here:
1 spell of either Calm or Paralysis, at range (and to timing specifications described above)
1 spell of Feather, to carefully land a paralyzed or sedated cliff racer at range
1 spell of Fury, on touch (and to timing specifications described above)
1 article bearing the scent of your target, discretely acquired
1 vial of Telvanni Bug Musk
Your message(s) or package(s)
Rope or resin to fasten your message or package to the cliff racer
1 wild cliff racer
An intense animosity for your target
The will to see the task through.

Unliving is shrouded in mystery, with rumors circulating that Nekron is darkness itself, existing before life entirely, or that he was created by the darkness as its protector. Another claim is that the Guardians of the Universe clashed with Nekron close to the beginning of the universe and were the ones to imprison him in the Land of the Unliving.
Krona War

Nekron gloats
Trapped in his own realm throughout most of eternity, Nekron first became aware of the world of the living through the deceased cosmic villain Krona. A rift was opened in the continuum between dimensions, caused by the death of an immortal. And Nekron looked upon the universe and saw all that was life itself, and determined that he would become its master. So that he might escape his prison, he resurrected and empowered Krona, with an army of the undead at his disposal, to slaughter the Guardians of the Universe and widen the rift.[2] It took the combined might of the entire Green Lantern Corps to defeat them, in a colossal battle that resulted in literally hundreds of casualties. Hal Jordan entered the Land of the Unliving on a suicide mission, and harnessed the souls of his fallen Lanterns to fight back against the great evil. Their combined willpower overcame Nekron long enough for the Guardians to seal up the rift, and Hal escaped, leaving the Lord of the Unliving once more condemned to his lifeless prison.[3]
Further Appearances

The Ultimate Opponent
Although largely confined, Nekron has made several more breaches into our world and had interactions with superheroes. After Captain Atom died briefly, he was introduced to several incarnations of Death, including Death of the Endless and the Black Racer. They were each presented as a component of death... and Nekron represented the concept as a cosmic certainty, death as the ultimate opponent.[1] In an attempt to gain control of the Quantum Field life energy of the planet, he had carefully engineered the hero's death. Although he absorbed a great deal of the power, Captain Atom used his connection to steal energy from Nekron's own personal field, and depower him enough to defeat him in physical combat.[4]
Underworld Unleashed allowed him another opportunity to gain entrance to the physical plane. Destruction of the Tower of Fate created another rift into our dimension, and Nekron fought Nebiros for the privilege of conquering the world. He won the battle, and the undead souls of the damned surged across the Earth as Hell literally broke loose.[5]Alan Scott and Fate teamed up against him. Nekron almost gained full access to our world, but fighting against him with the great supernatural strength of Fate gave Green Lantern enough time to demolish the portal with his green flame.[6]

Through the Rift
He was able to return to our world once more during Ghosts. An outside supernatural force brought a number of dead Green Lanterns back to life, calling themselves the Green Lantern Corpse. This created another crack in his realm, but still not one large enough for him to squeeze through. Taking control of the undead Lanterns, he sent them to capture the last remaining descendant of his original nemeses... Kyle Rayner. If Nekron had killed him and harnessed his powers, then he would finally have been able to leave his prison, but Kyle escaped back out through the crack and personally put each and every one of the rogue Lanterns down in single combat. Although it was a long and difficult battle, putting them back to rest sealed the portal and ended Nekron's threat once more.[7]
Nekron was accidentally summoned onto our plane by the supernatural hero Witchfire, who used his incantation without realizing the consequences it would have. She teamed up with Wonder Woman to prevent him from sucking the life-force out of any more innocents, while he was feeding. The combination of mystical energies and godlike blows was sufficient to drive him back into his own realm on that occasion.[8]
Blackest Night
Main article: Blackest Night

Black Lantern Corps
Following the Final Crisis, Nekron makes his triumphant return during the Blackest Night, where he forms the Black Lantern Corps composed entirely of his zombies equipped with power rings to wreak havoc upon the universe. His plans for this stretched back toward the Sinestro Corps War, when he killed the Anti-Monitor and absorbed him to energize his own Central Power Battery on the planet Ryut in Sector 666.[9] The battery wouldn't become completely active until it was discovered and disturbed by Lanterns Ash and Saarek, his first new victims.[10] He has taken the fallen Guardian named Scar as one of his servants, for she was burned by the Anti-Monitor and poisoned by his touch, causing her to slowly die and come under his influence.[11] There is also evidence that he has been influencing William Hand, the criminal known as Black Hand, his entire life. His control over Black Hand was solidified when Hand killed himself and his family, with Nekron taking him as his herald.[12]
As his influence spreads throughout the universe, the dead rise and return to take revenge on the living, building his power by literally devouring the hearts and emotions of all those who still breathe.[13] Only those with emotional ties to superheroes and villains are resurrected, to achieve the maximum potential. The sheer quantity of death caused by his Black Lantern Rings charges the Central Battery to full power. At this climax, he transports himself and his forces down to Earth to personally command his army. Landing in the middle of Coast City, he turns every single dead citizen into a Black Lantern, announces that all owe their lives to him, and he has come to collect.[14] Many of Earth's mightiest heroes rally to defeat him, and representatives from all seven Lantern Corps. Atrocitus, Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan, Indigo, Larfleeze, Saint Walker and Sinestro pour their combined beams into his Power Battery, hoping to obliterate it with the full life-force energies of creation. This only makes him stronger, and he seems to have planned this. Nekron resurrects Batman as one of his most powerful agents, who then kills and revives Animal Man, Donna Troy, Green Arrow, Ice, Kid Flash, Superboy, Superman and Wonder Woman as Black Lanterns. These are all people who have come back from the dead at some point in their lives, and he claims they only escaped because he let them... to further his own goals. He plans to use his army to uncover a dark secret of the Guardians... and then return the universe to a state of quiet order.[15]
Nekron's goal is revealed to wanting to find and destroy the embodiment of life itself: the white Entity. He kills one of the Guardians and uses their blood to draw the Entity out of hiding, then attempts to kill it and with it, which will in turn kill all of life in the universe. Sinestro bonds with the Entity and attempts to battle Nekron.[16] Despite Sinestro destroying his physical form, another Black Lantern simply picks up his weapon, becoming Nekron's new physical form. Nekron then manages to take the Entity out of Sinestro. Hal Jordan bonds with the Entity and uses its power to restore the living heroes transformed into Black Lanterns to their normal selves. Hal uses the Entity to transform the heroes into White Lanterns, together they defeat Nekron by resurrecting Black Hand thus destroying Nekron's link to the living plane. The Entity resurrects the Anti-Monitor which destroys the Black Lantern Battery. With his link to the earthly plane severed Nekron's body is destroyed, ending the Blackest Night.[17]
Powers and Abilities
Powers
Unique Physiology: Nekron is a the personification of the absence of life and existence or the void before anything was. This gives him tremendous power as he is able to draw strength from the infinite abyss of darkness that predates existence along with the energy released at the time of death by beings he or his Black Lanterns kills. He is so powerful he can withstand an attack from the Anti-Monitor while sending him back to the anti-matter universe.
Immortality: Since he is not alive in the sense that we understand it, Nekron is technically incapable of being killed. As such, defeating him is extremely difficult; if defeated he will simply return to the Land of the Unliving.
Necromancy:Nekron's position as the Lord of the Unliving gave him a great number of powers that related to death itself.
Dark Lightning: He has the ability to fire bolts of a force called dark lightning from his hands, powerful enough to hurt and even kill the Guardians of the Universe. Despite being immensely powerful, it is not unstoppable. Wonder Woman was able to block it with her bracelets, although the force still threw her across the room.
Necrotic Empowerment: Nekron gains physical strength from the deaths he causes.
Reanimation: As the Lord of the Unliving, Nekron can reanimate corpses into fully functioning zombies working entirely under his control, and retaining semblance of their past personality.
Fatal Touch: The sustained touch of Nekron's hand can chill any mortal being to death, through supernatural means.
Reality Manipulation
Weaknesses
Dependency: For all his power, Nekron holds one great weakness: he cannot exist in this universe. In order to properly interact with the living, Nekron requires a link between between New Earth and the Land of the Unliving, such as a tear in space-time, or a mortal link such as Black Hand.
Paraphernalia
Equipment
Black Lantern Central Power Battery (Formerly)
Notes
Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
There is an unrelated monster named Nekron who fought the original Justice League of America.[18]
Trivia
It has been confirmed in official sources that his name is pronounced NEHK-Ron.[19]
