Excuse the poor lighting, but I wanted to show off the St. Expeditus rosary that I got from the Kitchen Toad. I'm honestly in love with it and I can't wait to start incorporating it into my practice.

The little painting is something I did a while back as a stand in for a prayer card during my workings with him. It ain't that pretty or refined, but it does the trick.

Glory to Saint Expedite for stomping out the crow in my brain that ever calls "Cras Cras" you stomp out this ever nagging inclination and make me remember that if I want to do something and I have the energy and mentality to do it, I should do it HODIE! Glory be to thee Holy Martyr who stomps out procrastination, glory be to the golden armored centurion who brings results immediately, immediately, quickly, quickly! Saint Expedite Working

So... this coming Friday, the 19th, is the feast day for our pal @saint-expeditus. In true "I need this specific saint's help, specifically" fashion, I have procrastinated and am only just now getting my shit together to do A Thing™ this Friday.

Since I am also trying to get back into the swing of things with the Tumblr community I've been a part of for a decade now, I thought I would extend an invitation to you all to be part of this with me 😁

I will have to keep an eye on things and close the form to additional responses once I hit the max for the supplies I have, so if you hit an inactive form, I apologize ... but if this goes well I will probably start doing this for other things and maybe even keep the Expidite thing going as a yearly offering? The Catholics were really funny to invent saints. Call center employees of heaven. Sometimes the saints invented themselves and the church had to scramble to come up with a cover story. There's one saint that got too many promotions and the church is really cranky about it.

Hiii I want to nominate St Expeditus because it came to my mind when seeing something on the street about him :v

He is the patron saint about urgent causes so people pray to him in their most desperate moments and after it they put on the road/street some posters saying 'thank you'

Also some people build little huts(?) chapels(?) by the side of the road too, with his image and some flowers.

And his patronage extends to students and sailors and revolutionaries and and against procrastination

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT EXPEDITUS OF ARMENIA The Patron of Emergencies, Revolutionaries, Navigators and Against Procrastination Feast Day: April 19

Puns on saints' names are not uncommon, but that a saint named Expeditus should be invoked against procrastination just seems too good.

There was a real St. Expeditus: He was one of six Armenian Christians, possibly Roman soldiers, who were martyred in Melitene. His fellow martyrs are Sts. Hermogenes, Gaius, Aristonicus, Rufus and Galata. There is documentary evidence that St. Expeditus was venerated in Turin in northern Italy during the Middle Ages. From there, devotion to him spread to Germany and Sicily in the 17th century, but how he became the saint of procrastinators is harder to pin down.

The version with the widest circulation claims that late in the 18th century relics of a martyr, along with a statue, were shipped from Rome to a Paris convent. Neither the relics nor the statue were labeled, but the shipping crate was marked 'Spedito,' which the nuns assumed was the name of the saint. The sisters Latinized Spedito into St. Expeditus. It's a good story, but it does sound like a holy urban legend.

An older legend tells us that on the day Expeditus resolved to become a Christian, the devil came to him in the form of a raven and tried to persuade him to put off his conversion until the next day. Expeditus declared, 'No! I will be a Christian today!'

Devotion to St. Expeditus has spread around the globe. In the United States he is popular among New Orleans Catholics, who tell a story similar to the French legend. The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe received several crates of statues of saints. One of the statues was unidentified, but on the crate was the French term, Expedit, so that was taken to be the unknown saint’s name.

In Sao Paolo, Brazil, hundreds of thousands of Catholics crowd into the churches for Mass on the saint's feast day. The French introduced St. Expeditus to the inhabitants of Reunion, an island in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. The saint's cult is particularly strong there, witness the countless private handmade shrines and altars lining the roads. Chile is another center of devotion to St. Expeditus, particularly at the beach resort of Vina del Mar where a small church dedicated to him has become a popular destination for pilgrims.

In art, St. Expeditus is usually shown dressed as a Roman soldier, holding the palm frond that is the symbol of martyrdom in one hand, and raising above his head a cross on which is inscribed the word 'Hodie,' Latin for 'Today,' and trampling on a raven labeled 'Cras,' Latin for 'Tomorrow.'

In Germany, however, St. Expeditus is depicted pointing at a clock, a reminder not to waste time, or procrastinate.

while it can hard for us to admit that we are struggling mentally on a serious level, we have all had moments of feeling very low. i personally have struggled, and so struggle with, anxiety, depression, anger issues etc. these have been serious issues for me and i learnt a prayer i will link - here - that has helped me know St. Dymphna. ˚࿐

- St. Vitus ; the Patron Saint of oversleeping.

we have all overslept once, if not maybe multiple times a week or month. for some, oversleeping is a rare misfortune, but for others, including me, oversleeping is a regular problem and has affected my life in a various of negative ways. here is a - link - to a prayer that i found. ˚࿐

- St. Phillip Neri ; the Patron Saint of joy (and friendship).

i dunno about all of you guys, but i have lost more friends then i have gained since leaving high school. this isn’t a bad thing as a lot of the people i spent time with weren’t very nice, but like most people, i am always wishing for more friends. friendship is so important, and i read up about St. Phillip Neri and learnt so much. he is also the Saint of Joy! here is a - prayer - ˚࿐

- St. Padre Pio ; the Patron Saint of stress relief (and adolescents).

we all get stressed, duh. stress can take a toll on so many aspects of our lives, including our health on a long-term scale. trying to reduce stress is ironically, quite a stressful process. i have found peace in a plenty of Bible verses that talk about being calm and trusting God. i have also found peace in Padre Pio, a Saint who i knew about long before God called me to Catholicism. i have him on a bracelet, haha. here is a - prayer - by St. Padre Pio i have found, and also a - prayer - TO Padre Pio. ˚࿐

if someone says they don’t procrastinate, i’m 99.9% sure they’re lying. you do it, i do it, we know it’s bad, but it can be so hard to fight sometimes. good thing we have St. Expeditus! here is a - prayer - that we should all recite daily. i wish you the best! ˚࿐

- St. Anthony ; the Patron Saint of lost things.

my keys, my glasses, my card, sometimes even whole outfits or pairs of shoes… how many times a week, even a day, do we lose things we own? i’m sure we all know about St. Anthony, most atheists know about him, but i often find myself forgetting that he is there for us. a - prayer - to the finder of those annoying lost items.

- St. Jude ; the Patron Saint of lost causes (and “impossible” circumstances).

we have all thought a situation we’ve been in is completely and totally helpless. we’re stuck, there’s no way out and this feeling might just be forever. despite how hard these moments are, however long or short they may last, they do always end. we end up feeling better. however, that’s not to say that that feeling of helplessness isn’t so hard to bare. i’ve been there, i understand. i only recently learnt about St. Jude, (prior to this, the only ‘jude’ i knew of was the Beatles song… forgive me…). thankfully, St. Jude represents hope for the hopeless and miracles for all of us facing those helpless circumstances. - prayers

i also just make up my own prayers to Saints when needed. sometimes we don’t resonate with a prayer, and that’s okay. i often add to prayers or find myself reciting my own. i linked prayers for suggestions, not as some sort of strict guideline :)
