Reading this particular chapter again and there is just something with the way the demon talks to Mithrun as if they are longtime friends.

Which they were, in a sense.

Whether the demon's care was sincere or not, the demon knew most, if not all, parts of Mithrun's life. His struggles, his insecurities, his desires. But it's not because the demon was an omniscient being. No, it's because the dungeon lords deliberately trusted this being with everything that they carried in their hearts. And the demon delivered...until it got hungry.

I can see at some point of Mithrun's dungeon lord days that he would tell this demon about his Canary life and why he hated it, leading to that panel.

The demon admonishing Mithrun with the things Mithrun told him in the past. And Mithrun just going ham against the demon for daring to do that after leaving him for dead.

See the reason why Wifies getting chunk banned hurt so much is because how you don’t even realize how much of a constant he’s become for Parrot. He’s always right behind him, helping solve puzzles and making jokes. It’s Parrot and Wifies. Them. And when they’re pitted against eachother it’s different and frightening, but it’s still them, they still have a plan to win, together.

But then suddenly it’s Wifies vs A Secret. Versus the thing Parrot wants so bad, and he’s already begun to take Wifies presence for granted. See Parrots fatal flaw is he wants knowledge, he need to know. And sure sometimes it may be for good, to protect the server, or just himself, but he craves the knowledge. And he knows himself if he doesn’t get what he wants to know now, he’ll regret it.

“It’s all yours” and Parrot does regret it, even before he knows the Secret, he regret it as he stares blankly at the telescope. And in a way, it’s sort of ironic that there’s no secret, because it symbolizes what Parrot has realized too late- there is no secret that would have been worth Wifies. And it’s poetic that there is no secret after all. Parrot essentially killed his best friend for nothing. Because it is Parrots fault as much as it is Spokes. Parrot told Wifies that the secret was worth more than him, Parrot told Wifies to sacrifice himself, and he knew he would do it. It is Parrots fault Wifies is gone.

I would have to dig up the post that had an article on it but "history is written by the victors" is like, not UNTRUE, but also it's a phrase that really took off with losers (of wars, but also in the cosmic sense of being people who suck) like the Confederacy and the Nazis for obvious reasons. Like, it's true that you need to gather multiple perspectives to get the full picture and eliminating bias is immensely difficult and history should be analyzed critically but sometimes the victors are like. probably the side that's going to write a more accurate history in the first place. It's not actually a meaningful argument without considerable context provided; it's just a phrase people say hoping it shuts down any conversation.

Okay confession time I guess, but...I like Frank.

I know we're not supposed to like him. I know he represents everything reprehensible about the war and America and blind fervid patriotism. I know at worst we're supposed to hate him, and at best we're supposed to feel sorry for him (and I do), but like...I actually like him?

I can't help it. He's just so deeply vulnerable and broken and lonely and I just...

I want to help him. I want to fix him. I want to take him by the hand and gently show him that he doesn't have to be this way, that his parents are never going to love him no matter how much he tries to parrot the toxic ideals they drilled into him, and he would be so much better off just leaving all of that behind and following his own path.

Frank Burns had so much potential, and I'm sad we never got to see it realized.
