Here’s chapter two from my DuckTales fic.
CHAPTER 2: “Nightmare”
“Whatever it is, take care of it yourself. I’m done.”
“Come now, is that any way to speak to your family? To your caring and devoted aunt, no less?”, Magica mocked. Her sardonic tone rang quite clear as it echoed in her niece’s ears.
Lena rolled her eyes as she glared upwards into the never ending darkness that was the void; the cold, isolating, imprisonment she currently resided in until Magica needed her for her own bidding.
“We’re anything but family”, said Lena through gritted teeth. “Leave me alone”, she spat as she proceeded to blindly tread her way in no particular direction. Every step she took felt like she was stepping into a puddle of shallow water.
“Don’t you want to see your perky, little playmate again? Or did she finally tire of you?”
Lena froze.
She knew Webby. Webby cared for her, more than anyone else. Even when she found out the truth about why Lena was seeking the dime…
Webby never gave up on her.
“I said leave me alone!”
Suddenly, a dim orb shot past Lena, circling above her, just enough for her to see it take the silhouette of some type of bird.
It opened its beak. “Evermore…”
It was a voice Lena had never heard before.
“What?”, she asked, straining her eyes. She could see a streak of purple forming on top of the bird’s head.
The bird shrieked, “Evermore!”, before darting towards Lena, colliding into her, yet she felt nothing. She turned around in time to see the bird vanish as gray wisps of smoke evaporated into the void.
She gasped as she instinctively examined herself, worrying that she too would disappear into a cloud of smoke. She sighed, as she felt the sleeves of her sweater. The sweet relief filled her knowing what remained of her body was still intact-
“Help!”
That voice.
Lena’s heart sank as she turned around, her eyes widening as she saw that just a few feet from her, was Webby, who seemed to be frantically trying to keep herself afloat in a small body of water that she was desperately trying to get out of.
She was drowning.
Every rapid motion she made with her flailing arms to try and stay above the surface caused more splashes of water to fling every which way.
“Webby?”, asked Lena, momentarily stunned. How did she get here? She snapped out of it almost immediately. Her best friend needed her. “Webby!”, she yelled, running as fast as she could.
“Help!”, yelled Webby, as soon as she emerged from below the water, only to be forced under yet again.
“Webby!”, shouted Lena as she finally reached the edge of the puddle, dropping to her knees, she tried to plunge her arms into the freezing water, to grab onto Webby. However, once her hands made contact with the few inches of water, they hit what felt like glass. “No!”, she exclaimed, pounding on the unbreakable barrier. “Webby!”
“Lena!”, yelled Webby, her muffled voice barely audible to the teen.
Their eyes met for a split second before Webby was being pulled farther down into the dark until she was completely gone from sight.
Lena’s heart stopped. She screamed at the top of her lungs, an ear piercing scream. Seeing her best friend being ripped away from her, was torture. Pure torture.
“NO! WEBBY! NO!”. She went back to slamming her fists against the blockade to no avail. “Webby!”
Just then two pairs of hands made contact with Lena’s arms.
Magica.
“No! Stop it! LET ME GO!”, yelled Lena.
The pairs of hands felt familiar to her. They resisted her attempts at being shaken off. They gripped tighter onto her, not in the sense that they were trying to hurt her but guide her.
They were gentle, in fact, so gentle that they couldn’t possibly be Magica’s.
It didn’t matter. They were preventing her from gettting to Webby.
“I said stop, you witch!”, she yelled, her heavy breathing nearly made it impossible for her to get the words out. Her eye color shifting from clear to a neon blue.
The grips of the invisible hands intensified. Seizing her arms until they forced them to her sides. Just as their hold on her got stronger, the heavier her breathing intensified.
She could hear numerous disembodied voices calling to her.
Lena… Lena… Lena…
There was a fire burning inside her. Her magic growing inside of her, ready to burst…
“STOP!”
The pounding in her head eased, as did whatever was holding onto her.
Lena gasped as she immediately sat up in bed, trying to steady her breathing, looking around her and Vi’s shared bedroom. Everything except for the bed and the bookshelf had levitated from their usual place and were now floating around on the ceiling.
All of Vi’s books, the nightstand, the lamp, the ceramic skull Lena used as a candle, and all of the girls’ other trinkets were suspended in midair surrounded by a mystical blue light.
To Lena’s horror, Tyrian and Violet were also on the ceiling, spread eagle, unable to move. Tyrian looked anxious, while Violet seemed impressed.
“I see you’ve been improving your telekinesis. Quite the feat that you’ve now managed to utilize your skills on people as well as our possessions”, said Violet.
Lena waved her arm in the air, side to side, as her hand radiated a blue aura around it. “Sorry, guys”, she said, as her father and sister were gently set back on the floor, as well as the rest of their belongings.
Tyrian let out a sigh of relief. “No pasa nada, miel”, he said, kneeling down next to Lena. “Violet came to get me as soon as you started having a fit in your sleep. We did our best to wake you before you-“
“Tossed you on the ceiling like a ragdoll?”, said Lena guiltily.
Tyrian offered a reassuring smile as he rustled her hair. “We’re alright, sweetheart”, he said, looking next to Lena. “Violet?”
“Indeed”, said Violet, who had made her way onto the bed, sitting next to her sister, grasping her hand. “I thought we had resolved what’s been upsetting you so you’d never have nightmares again.”
“Not unless you know some incantation that’ll make me stay awake forever”, Lena teased.
Violet furrowed her eyebrows. “I haven’t come across one yet, but I shall bookmark it once I do.” She positioned herself on the bed, entwining her and Lena’s arms together, as she rested her head on the teen’s shoulder.
Lena smirked, she too resting her head on Violet’s.
Tyrian smiled, getting to his feet. “I think this is the perfect time for hot chocolate. How many marshmallows do you girls want?”
“Three.”
“Five.”

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, I think that Haley Long from the American Dragon Jake Long TV series, Janna from the Star VS The Forces Of Evil TV series, Luz Noceda and Amity Blight from The Owl House TV series and Cedric The Sensational from the Sofia The First TV series would interact quite well with one of @boingodigitalart’s dream teams which consists of Webby Vanderquack, Lena Sabrewing and Violet Sabrewing from the DuckTales (2017) TV series and Morgana Macawber from the Darkwing Duck (1991) TV series who all are enthusiastic about magic.
After all, as shown in the episode ‘Switcheroo’, Haley is a shapeshifting dragon who is quite the rule follower and does quite well in school and, as shown in the episode ‘Family Business’, she did pretty good in her dragon training. So, I think that Haley would help Webby, Lena, Violet and Morgana study every written record they could about how magic works and would also get along quite well with Webby in particular considering that Webby also loved learning and also did pretty good in her own training as a fighter as shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, where Webby learned quite well from records about Scrooge McDuck’s adventures and was quite a big help to Scrooge when it came to helping him fight his way through all the obstacles in their path and fending off Black Heron. So, I think that Haley and Webby would like to spar with each other and help improve each other’s fighting skills. And, given that, as shown in the episode ‘The Doppelganger Gang’, the dragons from the American Dragon Jake Long universe have the ability to make copies of themselves as well as, as shown throughout the American Dragon Jake Long TV series, the ability to fly and breath fire, I also think that Webby would like to help Haley use those dragon abilities to the utmost efficiency in a fight. Also, given that, as shown in the episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’, Webby was able to use German paper cutting to trick Huey and Dewey by making a paper cut out of her silhouette look like her shadow and that, as I pointed out earlier, Haley did pretty well in school, I think that Webby can teach Haley to use skills like German paper cutting to confuse her opponents. And given that, as I pointed out earlier, Haley was quite a rule follower who prefers following school rules and that, as shown in the episode ‘Escape To/From Atlantas!’ Webby was also, at least usually, quite a rule follower who wasn’t quite used to going against her grandma Beakley’s wishes, I think that’s another reason Haley and Webby would get along quite well since they both usually prefer following the rules.
As shown in the episode ‘Bon Bon The Birthday Clown’, Janna is quite an enthusiast when it comes to the concept of magic. So, I think that Janna would really like to learn a thing or 2 from Morgana since, as shown in the episode ‘Fungus Amongus’, Morgana is a skilled sorceress. Also, given that, as shown in the episode ‘Rest In Pudding’, Janna also seems to have a collection of magic-related trinkets, I think that she would really want to see any real magical artifacts that Webby, Lena, Violet and Morgana find. As a side note, I think that Webby, Lena, Violet and Morgana would be quite fascinated if they were to see that when the version of Janna from the Janna VS The Forces Of Darkness fanfic had Marco Diaz use a book scanner on the Butterfly family’s Magic Book Of Spells to get its contents on phone, its contents were somehow transferred to her phone instead of copied to it. And given that Violet, as shown in the episode ‘Friendship Hates Magic!’, is quite book smart and is also smart when it comes to magic, I think that she might be able to figure out why that happened. And I think that Violet would take into account the fact that, as shown in the @therussohousehold’s Janna VS The Forces Of Darkness fanfic which was inspired by @skleero’s Janna Vs. The Forces Of Evil AU, the Magic Book Of Spells apparently counted being scanned by an overhead book scanner as being read thus temporarily bringing its spells to life and that would probably make sense to Violet since, given how book smart she is, she would probably know that an overhead book scanner’s camera (and cameras in general too for that matter) operates similarly to a person’s eyesight since both involve taking light that bounces off of the objects they’re viewing and converting it into something electrical. And I think that Violet would theorize and take into account that the Magic Book Of Spells probably creates some sort of magical link between itself and its owner given that, as shown in the episode ‘Book Be Gone’, the Magic Book Of Spells seems to recognize the person who reads it as its owner and prevents anyone who doesn’t own it from writing in it. And Violet would also realize that a book scanner would technically fit neither category since it’s just a device and thus doesn’t count as a person at all and that the book scanner would be taking light that’s bouncing off the Magic Book Of Spells. So, based on all this, I think that one theory Violet might come up with is that, if some of the book’s magic had piggybacked on the light bouncing off the book, then that probably created a magical link between the book and the light bouncing off it. And, based on that, Violet might conclude that when the book scanner’s camera took that light and converted it into electrical data, it converted the Magic Book Of Spells’ contents along with it and that it didn’t also happen with a person’s eyesight because it adapted to their consciousness since the book recognizes its owner but a book scanner has no consciousness to adapt to. Violet might also come up with another theory by picturing the Magic Book Of Spells as a dot labeled Point A and anyone (or anything) who reads it as a dot labeled Point B with the magical link that the Magic Book Of Spells makes with its owner being the line between the 2 dots. In the case of the Magic Book Of Spells and the person who owns it, Point A and Point B are indeed connected together by the line. In the case of the Magic Book Of Spells and the person who doesn’t own it, there’s no line between Point A and Point B to connect them. And in the case of the Magic Book Of Spells and a book scanner that doesn’t count as a person at all, the book’s magic got confused and thus did something in between by making a line that was connected to Point A but, instead of also being connected to Point B, the line pointed at it and led Point A towards it like an arrow just like how the Magic Book Of Spells’ contents were led into the book scanner and then into Janna’s phone.
As for Luz Noceda and Amity Blight, I think that Luz and Amity would get along quite well with Webby and Lena respectively in particular. In the case of Luz and Webby, I think that they would get along quite well because, as I pointed out in my Compare/Contrast of Webby Vanderquack and Lena Sabrewing And Luz Noceda and Amity Blight post, both of them are quite optimistic as shown in the episode ‘Witches Before Wizards’ where she was quite optimistic when it came to being a witch’s apprentice and learning magic and, as shown in the episode ‘Daytrip Of Doom!’ where Webby was quite about going on an outing with Huey, Dewey and Louie. And, in the case of Lena and Amity, I think that they would get along quite along quite well because, as I also pointed out in my Compare/Contrast of Webby Vanderquack and Lena Sabrewing And Luz Noceda and Amity Blight post, they’re practically kindred spirits since they both had abusive parental figures who tried to kill their loved ones as shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’ where Lena’s aunt Magica used Lena and tried to kill Webby who Lena formed a very close bond with and as shown in the episode ‘Escaping Expulsion’ where Amity’s mother tried to stop Amity from forming attachments with Luz, Willow and Gus and also almost got Luz killed in an Abomination demonstration. And I think that Luz and Amity would be very enthusiastic about helping Webby, Lena, Violet and Morgana learn more about magic. And speaking of learning more about magic, I think that Webby, Lena, Violet and Morgana would be quite fascinated by Luz’s Glyph magic which, as shown in the episode ‘The Intruder’, is about drawing magical symbols that symbolize certain elements and bringing those elements to life when the symbol is tapped and also quite fascinated by Amity’s witch magic which, as stated in the episode ‘The Intruder’ works because of the witches’ somewhat unique anatomy. And I think that Lena might get creative and see if there’s a way to combine Glyph magic with witch magic since, as shown in the episode ‘The Beagle Boy Breakout!’, Lena tends to think outside the box. And they would probably also be fascinated by how the Glyphs, as shown in the episode ‘Escaping Expulsion’, can be combined to create certain spells.
As for Cedric The Sensational, I think that he would get along surprisingly well with Morgana since, as shown in the episode ‘Cedric’s Apprentice’, Cedric formed a bond with Princess Sofia despite wanting to steal her magic amulet at first and, as shown in the episode ‘Fungus Amongus’, Morgana formed a romantic attachment to Darkwing Duck. So, both Cedric and Morgana grew attached to their enemy in some way. And I think that Cedric might also help boost Lena’s morale with her magic when she’s having trouble with it since, as shown in the episode ‘Substitute Cedric’, Cedric was able to boost an entire class’s morale with their magic training during his Never Forget The Sorcerer’s Secret musical number by telling them to never give up. Lena would probably take Cedric’s advice since, as shown in the episode ‘Nightmare On Killmotor Hill!’, she was able to stand up against Magica De Spell by persevering through her nightmares with the help of her loved ones and not giving up. But Lena would probably also find it strange that Cedric would use a musical number to convey the lesson. Also, I think that Webby, Lena, Violet and Morgana would like to theorize about the Amulet Of Avalor given what Cedric found out about it in the episode ‘Hexley Hall’ which was that the Amulet Of Avalor’s powers change depending on who is trapped inside it.

While you are here, let us tell you the 6 reasons why Costa Richa is a hot spot for a vacation. Dive right in to find out.
#1 Visit The Incredible National Parks
There are a few national parks in Costa Rica where tourists can take part in thrilling activities such canyoning, zip lining, river rafting, and cave tubing. Animal lovers can witness sea turtles, macaws, sloths, and much more. It’s so much fun to witness the wildlife.
#2 Foodies Will Have The Best Time
Foodies will have a great time in Costa Rica. There are innovative chefs in restaurants and bars that will cook up a great meal for you. And of course, enjoy the vibrant craft beer places too. You can enjoy a chilled beer with yummy snacks.
#3 Vacation Rentals For Relaxation
There are pristine beaches in Costa Rica. And to enjoy these, you can stay at one of the vacation rentals. You may also enjoy the hot springs near the vacation rental.
Get a tan, enjoy a massage, surf, swim, or relax in your personal pool. There are some plush vacation rental options where you can get innumerable luxurious amenities. Use this time to have the perfect vacation.

Potent drinks, serene beaches, fun vacation rentals, and a great wildlife to witness - Costa Rica is indeed a hot spot.
Head to the destination for a fun-filled tour. You will never have a dull moment here.

Unfinished Work #47: Untitled
I just remembered this existed! I had the song stuck in my head when I started writing it lol. I don’t recall exactly how it was supposed to go, but it was gonna be about Scrooge realizing his blood daughter does magic and being Upsetti about it, with plenty of Weblena in the mix.
Tumblr media
Webby is freshly sixteen, covered in ectoplasm, and hugging Lena close as they tumble through the portal she'd opened, sprawling across her bed with a laugh. Lena's arms were warm around her neck, but that was nothing compared to the warmth of her smile. Her sweater was rumpled around the edges, betrayed the barest hint of her shoulders.
"Happy birthday, Webs," she murmured, stretching up to kiss her.
Webby eagerly kissed back, breaking apart to nuzzle their beaks together. Lena's fingers traced the griffin scars on her cheek with familiarity. "We should destroy gods more often," she whispered.
"We should," Lena whispered back.
Violet, who had come out of the portal last, grabbed the nearest pillow and hucked it at Webby's head, getting two birds with one yeet. "Absolutely disgusting content in my good Christian coven. I have to sleep in that bed tonight."
Lena hurled the pillow back. "It was her birthday gift!" she squawked, face turning bright red. Webby rolled to the side, giggling maniacally as she sat up.
"Lena, if you got your girlfriend kisses for her birthday instead of an actual present, I'm pretty sure our Fathers would disown you." The hummingbird shucked off a jacket covered in gunk and waved it threateningly in Webby's direction. "First shower is yours, birthday girl. Don't make me get the purifying bells."
Webby leaned over for one last kiss, shimmying off the bed with a squeal. Their fingers stretched out, linked, before finally breaking. "Be right back, girls!"
Violet tsked. "I can sleep in ectoplasm, blood, and gravel. But you just had to soil our duvet with cooties."
"I regret nothing," Lena replied, sprawling out in a sort of sludge-snow angel.
She hummed an acknowledgement, sitting on the edge of the blankets. "I hope Mr. McDuck won't be too upset we missed the party."
"Meh. Teenagers play hooky all the time. He should expect it."
"For birthday parties?"
"I dunno, probably. Especially when the alternative can be defeating gods with your best friends, one of which also happens to be your girlfriend."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You gotta dig a little deeper Don't have far to go You gotta dig a little deeper Tell the people Mama told you so!
Can't tell you what you'll find Maybe love will grant you a piece of mind Dig a little deeper and you'll know
Webby's voice broke off as she twisted the water off, humming along to Mama Odie's chorus. She strutted over to the sink, digging out the toothbrush the Sabrewings had been kind enough to leave for her. Webby cleared away a layer of condensation on the mirror with a swipe of her hand and felt something in her heart twist. Freshly cleaned, her feathers tended to floof out. Always had.
It's only now, as a teenager, she can see the beginnings of whiskers dangling down her face.
Enraptured, Webby leaned her slight weight on the sink, feeling them with a damp hand. It was a small detail, really. A fairly normal occurrence for a lot of ducklings as they grew up and grew into their adult feathers. But, to her, it mattered. It mattered quite a lot.
Your daddy was a lovin man Family through and through You your daddy's daughter What he had in him, you got in you
The smile fell from Webby's face as she recounted her latest adventure. She didn't think Scrooge would be upset she missed her birthday, seeing how he rarely ever went to any of his, but she shuddered to think of what he might say if he found out she was ditching to explode slimy gods shaped like polyps.

somewhere to go, someone to love
my secret santa gift (@ducktalessecretsanta2020) for @kvanderquack!! i’m sorry for tagging again after i already sent my gift via dm-
also on ao3!!
––––––––––
For as long as Lena lived (all fifteen years), she’d always been alone. She was born alone on the heights of Mount Vesuvius, from the remnants of her Aunt Magica’s shadow. She travelled to Duckburg alone, with no one to keep her company other than the voices in her head and the harsh whispering of her shadow. She bore the brunt of Magica’s lashings and whining alone, hurt and angry and bitter.
A happy family felt like such a foreign concept to her. Magica was always her one and only kin, the only person who had a connection to her. And she hated every second of it. If having just one aunt was so exhausting, imagine having two aunts. Imagine three. Criticizing your every move. Yelling at you for screwing up. Demanding nothing but obedience and respect and returning none of it.
Lena didn’t think she would be able to take it. Family just didn’t sound like something she’d like.
That’s what she thought, anyway, until the Sabrewings took her in.
––––––––––
1.
Lena can’t sleep.
Or to be exact, she can’t sleep peacefully. Ever since she came back to the land of the living, she’s been having dreams. Dreams where she found herself running from her. Into the woods, where the screeching of bats rang in the air, and the ground was muddy and made each consecutive step heavy. Or within a mansion suspiciously similar to Scrooge’s, her voice bouncing off the walls and getting closer and closer until they were literally screaming into her ears. She could do nothing but run.
She never dared to look back, but Lena always managed to glimpse her in the corner of her eye. The swish of a velvety black cape. A gloved hand, reaching out to snatch her. A flash of purple magic.
Lena always manages to wake up before Magica could grab her and do god-knows-what. She would always be grateful for the fact that she awoke easily. But every dream ended in To Be Continued — never The End — and Lena didn’t want to know what The End would look like, because she has the sinking feeling that it won’t be a Happily Ever After.
Tonight is no different. She’s staring up at the ceiling of Violet’s room, letting the muffled snores of her roommate fill the still air. It’s getting increasingly hard to stay awake, and she isn’t sure how much longer she can take it.
Sighing, she rolls out of bed and leaves the room, making sure the door creaked as quietly as possible and that it clicked shut. She heads down the stairs and into the living room. A bookshelf stands in the corner, filled with all sorts of books from encyclopedias to photography books.
Lena instinctively grabs a cookbook (and accidentally knocks off a few more, but she’ll deal with them later) from the second topmost shelf. Yellow sticky notes jut out of the pages, all written on with dark purple ink. Walking into the kitchen adjacent, she flicks on the light, then flips the book open. Vanilla Cake, reads the title in big bold letters, followed by the exact quantity of ingredients needed and the instructions on how to bake one.
This should keep her up until tomorrow.
"...Lena? Shouldn't you be in bed?"
She freezes. Ty is standing at the door, a wooden baseball bat loosely held in his grip. He chucks it aside and steps into the kitchen.
"Hey." She waves half-heartedly with a sheepish smile. "I, uh, couldn't sleep."
"And you're in the kitchen with a cookbook, why?"
Because Aunt Magica haunts my dreams every night and I don’t wanna deal with it anymore?
“...I wanted to do something nice for my friends for once, so I thought baking a cake for our sleepover would be neat?”
Ty’s gaze flickers between Lena and the clock currently showing 12:59. He pinches the area between his eyes. “Lena, it’s late. I think you should go to bed—”
“No!” He flinches. Lena’s eyes widen. “I mean— no, I can’t go to bed until I finish this cake!” she backtracks, her voice cracking. Her heart is pounding. She can't go to sleep, she can't...! “If you help me, I’ll go to bed sooner! Maybe!”
Ty scratches the back of his head. “Well, Indy’s the dad who bakes, not me... but I suppose I can try.”
Relief washes over her. She flashes him a tired smile, handing him a bowl and some measuring cups. “Thanks.”
––––––––––
2.
“We’re back!”
Indy looks up from the couch. “Welcome back. How was your sleepover?”
“Pleasant,” Violet replies, already halfway up the stairs. “Ate some cake. Played a video game. Saved Lena from getting dragged into a mirror and possibly losing her within a lucid dream to the witch responsible for the shadow war several months ago. The usual.”
“Sounds nice,” Indy remarks. Then did a double take. “Wait, what?”
Ty laughs, following after Violet. “It’s a long story. Took the whole car ride for them to finish telling it.” Indy glares after him, but shrugs and returns to his book.
Lena drops her own bag on the floor and flops onto the couch with a heavy sigh. She could shower or whatever later. Right now she just wanted to rest.
“Long day?” Indy asks, barely moving from his position on the right side of the couch.
“Kinda. I’ve been through worse, though.”
There's a beat of silence.
The unspoken Like what? hangs over her head uncomfortably. Is this the part where she spills her entire life story? Should she play it off as a joke? Would it be wise to pretend she hadn’t said anything? She can feel Indy’s stare on her shoulder, burning like a pair of red-hot lasers—
He either noticed her discomfort, or is really good at reading minds, because he hums quietly and says, “You don’t have to elaborate.”
“...Ah. Right. Okay.” She sits upright, then lets out a short laugh. Her eyes wander over to Indy, who’s still reading his book with a content look on his face. “What is that?”
Indy shows her the book. There’s a bunch of pictures of Violet, Ty and Indy together. “It’s one of the family photo albums,” he explains. “Photography is one of my hobbies.”
Lena grunts in response, then peers at the photos more closely. “Is that Violet in the library?”
“Oh, that’s from the first time we visited the public library together. We had just moved into Duckburg, and wanted to do a little sightseeing. Violet insisted that we check out the library. That girl always did love reading. She gets it from Ty…”
They spend the rest of the hour looking through the photo album together. There’s a surprising amount of photos in this one tiny album, each preserving a special memory that Indy knows by heart and tells Lena about with nothing but fondness. She now knows that Violet used to take ballet classes (and hated it), has won at least two national spelling bees by the age of six, and is part of the Junior Woodchucks.
Photos from before Violet was born are also in it, located near the end of the album. Indy tells Lena that he first met Ty at a college entrance exam. They had entered the building at the same time, and Ty thought it would be neat to strike a conversation with him. They hit it off pretty much immediately, but forgot to ask for each other’s phone numbers before they went their separate ways.
“But you’re married now?!” Lena blurts out, jumping from the cough to point a shaky finger at him. “How?!”
He chuckles. “We met again at a supermarket several months later, I believe, reaching for the same can of beans. Ty’s first words to me ever since were ‘Holy shit, you like beans, too?!’ This time we remembered to exchange contact information, and here we are ten years later.”
“I— Wow.” Lena sits back down. “Some luck you have.”
“I wouldn’t call it luck,” he admits. His fingers gently caressing the old photo of them. “I like to think of it as fate. If we’re meant to be together, life will find a way to get us together.”
(Lena thinks about Webby.
She thinks about their “chance” meeting at the amphitheater.
She thinks about how she almost lost Webby by sacrificing herself to protect her.
She thinks about how lucky she had been that Violet was there in the library that day, reading a nerdy old book.
She inwardly decides that Indy is probably right.)
Once they reach the end of the album, Indy moves to close it. The corners of several photographs stick out from the side. Lena blinks.
“And those are?”
He looks down. “Oh.” Tucking them back in, he replies, “Those are some of the newer photographs. Haven’t gotten a new album for them yet, so I keep them here for the time being.” His fingers drum on the hard cover. “Come to think of it, I don't have any pictures with you yet. We’ll need to remedy that.”
“Hm, why?”
“You’re family, after all. I think you deserve a spot in the photo album.”
Family. She’s family. The thought of it makes her heart flutter.
It takes her a minute to realize Indy stopped talking, and is looking at her with the slightest hint of hesitation in his expression.
She beams at him. “That would be nice. You should get a new album first, though.” As if on cue, a photograph falls out. She picks up. “Hey, what about this one?” Indy lights up, and starts going into a tangent about the one time they lost Violet at Duckburg’s largest department store. As he does, she zones out for a bit, testing the name.
‘Lena Sabrewing’, huh…  She can feel her smile widening.  Sounds way cooler than Lena de Spell.
––––––––––
3.
This is terrible, Lena concludes.
They’re on the way to the Junior Woodchuck Campgrounds for Violet’s upcoming graduation. She’s a little hazy on the details, but she does know that each year only one senior junior woodchuck can become a senior woodchuck (“That’s dumb! Why can’t you all just become senior woodchucks?!” “Don’t question it, Lena.”), they decide who graduates with some sort of obstacle course, and Violet’s opponent this year is likely going to be Huey.
Lena also knows that the campgrounds are located waaaay out on some island in the middle of nowhere, and if she sees another “NOW LEAVING DUCKBURG” sign she’s going to lose it. She lets out a groan as she slides farther down her seat, watching the pine trees blur into a strip of green on the landscape. “Hey, Vi, how much longer ‘til we’re there?”
No answer.
“Vi?”
Again, no answer. Lena knows that Violet has a tendency to be quiet during car rides, preferring to admire the scenery as they drive, but Violet should’ve at least spared her a grunt at this point.
She decides to turn and look at her. Violet is staring at her lap, perfectly still. Her fists are clenched so tightly she can see the white knuckles beneath her purple feathers, and they’re trembling.
“Vi, what’s wrong...?” Lena begins to ask, and then immediately Indy’s voice from before echoes in her head.
“Third time’s the charm, right Vi?”
The gears click into place. Oh.
She inches closer to Violet’s side — as much as she can with her seatbelt on, anyway — and reaches out to place a comforting hand over Violet’s. The hummingbird looks up.
“Hey,” Lena says, “you’ll be okay. You’re the best nerd I’ve ever know. What’s Huey got, his stupid guidebook? You’ve got this.”
“Actually, the Junior Woodchuck Wilderness Challenge prohibits use of the guidebook,” Violet corrects, then sighs. “Sorry. I know you’re trying to comfort me, but I…” She trails off. “I know failing is natural, but it still terrifies me every single time.”
Silence.
Indy, from the passenger seat, pipes up, “Violet, you know that just being willing to go back and try again is… really brave, right? Yeah, failure is inevitable, and very terrifying, but not a lot of people are able to bounce back from it like you do.”
“What Indy said.” Ty peers at them from the rearview mirror and gives them a thumbs up. “We love you no matter what, and I bet you’re gonna crush the competition this year.”
“Yeah! What they said! You’re Violet Sabrewing. You brought me back from the Shadow Realm. If you can do that, you can do anything!”
Violet stares at her for a moment, then Indy, then Ty. Her eyes are glassy. She opens her fist to hold Lena’s hand and squeezes it weakly.
“Thanks,” she whispers, with a smile that doesn’t exactly reach her eyes.
...At least shes smiling a little. Lena frowns, but gets an idea. She leans forward to ask Ty, “By the way, how long until we get there?”
“Five hours, I think,” Indy answers.
“FIVE HOURS?!” She can feel a vein pop in her head. Five hours. Five. Hours. It feels like she’s been in this stinkin’ car for decades already. Well, no matter.
She turns to Violet. “Alright, since we’re basically stuck here, why don’t I teach you how to smacktalk?”
Violet raises an eyebrow, clearly unamused. “Is that really necessary? Also, I doubt Hubert would appreciate—”
“Of course it is! And of course he won’t. You can’t have a healthy rivalry without a little back and forth! Where’s the fun in that?! Now, the key to good smacktalk is...”
She spends the rest of the ride lecturing Violet on the essentials of smacktalk (read: making most of it up as she went). As they drove, Violet’s shoulders began to relax and she allowed herself to laugh more, and Lena felt more at ease than she had in a while.
––––––––––
4.
Lena wakes up with a gasp. Frantically, she feels around. Her arms are intact. Her legs are still here. Nothing hurts. Phantom Blot isn’t here. Okay. It was just a dream. Just a dream. Just a dream.
“Lena?”
“Vi?” Lena calls, but it sounds more like a choked sob. She’s suddenly acutely aware of the tears messing up her feathers and her pounding heart.
Violet sits up. “Another nightmare?” she asks, her voice quiet. Lena nods. She gets up from bed and leaves the room. Lena sits in the darkness, her hands gripping her knees tightly. Breathe in, breathe out.
Violet returns with a tall glass of water and hands it to her. Lena takes it and brings the glass to her beak. The water is cool and soothing.
“They’ve become increasingly frequent. Shouldn’t we talk to our fathers about this?”
“No,” Lena says immediately, finishing her glass and setting it on the night table with shaky hands. “I don’t want them to get worried.”
Violet gives her a glare that pierces even in the dark, then sighs.
“Very well.”
✿ — ✿ — ✿
On Christmas Day, Lena wakes up to Violet dumping a bucket of cold water over her.
“Merry Christmas.”
“Ack—! Violet, what the hell?!”
“Apologies,” Violet says, her tone betraying her words. She’s already dressed in a plain cream turtleneck. “You wouldn’t wake up no matter what I did.” She tugs at her sleeve. “Now, come. Fathers are already in the living room. You were literally the last to awaken.” Without waiting for a response, she drags her out of the room and down the stairs.
The living room feels… warmer than usual. There are string lights, giving out a gentle multicoloured glow, both around the Christmas Tree and hung up along the walls. Someone took the time to hang a wreath on every door in the house, each covered in mini ornaments and topped with a red bow. The bright orange fire in the fireplace is crackling.
Ty and Indy are already waiting, wearing matching Christmas sweaters. “Merry Christmas!” they greet, pulling the two girls into a hug.
“Merry Christmas,” Lena says back before pulling away. The cheeriness of the season was beginning to catch up to her. “So! What do we do first?”
“Well, the presents are under the tree but maybe eat breakfast first—”
Lena was gone the moment Ty said ‘presents’. She rushes to the tree and begins checking the tags for her name. Not that there are that many presents to check. Violet follows soon after with a much calmer demeanor.
She ends up with a limited edition of The FeatherWeights’ newest album from Ty and Indy (“How did you know they’re my favourite band?!” “Your shirt is all we needed to clue us in.”) and an exact replica of the Caw-nverse shoes she loves wearing. Violet receives two books — an encyclopedia the thickness of one and a half dictionaries about magic and a thinner book called Tales of the Peculiar.
She’s ready to head off to the dining table to eat when Violet stops her.
“Wait.” She pulls out a neatly wrapped present from her pocket and holds it out to Lena. “Here.”
“Wh— But I didn’t get you anything!”
“It’s okay.” Violet shoves the present into her hands. “Just take it.” Lena peers at her suspiciously before tearing the wrapping paper clean off and opening the box.
A dreamcatcher. The hoop used is a nice beige, and a flower-like design had been woven within it with colourful threads. White feathers suspended from twine, with beads adorning the strands at intervals, are attached to the hoop. Lena dangles the dreamcatcher above the box and looks at Violet questioningly.
“It may not be as beneficial as actual therapy since I couldn’t infuse it with any magic, but it should help keep the bad dreams at bay,” Violet explains. “Probably. I made it myself so it might not work.”
Lena stares at the dreamcatcher again. Upon closer inspection, the feathers and beads appear to be glued to the twine, and the twine was wound imperfectly around the base of the hoop. The flower design is also uneven, having slightly larger ‘petals’ on one side. She feels herself tear up. “Violet. This is the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for me.”
“I can’t believe saving you from roaming in the shadow realm for all of eternity isn’t the sweetest thing I've ever done for you,” Violet replies, completely deadpan. But the corners of her beak are twitching upwards.
“You wanted to summon evil spirits! I was a byproduct. It doesn’t count,” Lena jokes, putting the dreamcatcher away. She envelopes her in a crushing hug. “Thank you.” Her voice is wobbling. “This is just— It must’ve taken ages. Now I feel even worse for not getting you anything.”
Violet hugs her back just as tightly. “You’re welcome. Just make sure you get me my own personal library next year.”
As if your room isn’t filled with enough books as is, Lena thinks, but she can’t help but laugh.
Ty clears his throat. “This is great, but it’s already nine and you girls haven’t even had breakfast yet, so chop chop! We’ve got a whole day ahead of us.”
(They end up at the ice rink, where Lena learns that she’s actually terrible at ice skating. Violet offers to teach her like the Samaritan she is, but doesn’t hesitate to throw jabs at her incompetence. Fortunately, she’s not the only one who’s suffering, if Indy’s screaming and Ty’s guffawing are any indications.)
––––––––––
In the first fifteen years of her life, Lena had been alone with no one to turn to. Being part of a happy family felt like something out of a movie or fairy tale. Happiness seemed like an unreachable dream.
But within two years, she found a best friend in Webby, a sister in Violet, and two dads in Ty and Indy. She found a family to call her own, one that loved her and made her feel good about herself. She was finally content.
The dreamcatcher and family photo hanging above her bed would need to be pried from her cold, dead hands.

Ducktales: Challenge of the Senior Junior Woodchucks! and Quack Pack! Review/Thoughts
Hello errybody, I’ve decided being a huge fan of this verison of Ducktales, and someone who likes reviewing stuff and going on and on at length about it, to review this season’s episodes as they come out, both to get me writing critically again, and to get more non chat content on the old tumblr.  First, while you likely don’t care a little about my history with the ducks; While I , sadly though i’m trying to correct it, haven’t read MUCH of Carl Barks classic donald duck comics nor that of his avid fanboy and clear sucessor in quality and talent Don Rosa, I did read Rosa’s utter classic “The LIfe and Times of Scrooge” mcduck in high school and the story stuck with me sense. I’ll go into Life and Times another day hopefully, but naturally when the reboot was announced I was excited.. a great voice cast, and donald,my boy, as part of the main cast. The show has been a joy to behold and with steven universe having taken a bow JUST a week ago and Covid ravaging our lives, it coudln’t of picked a better time. But do these episodes keep the momentum from an utterly marvelous second half of season 2? The short answer is “Fuck yes” but the long answer is under the cut.
Challenge of the Junior Senior Woodchucks! While “Challenge of the x” is a popular snowclone title I can’t help but think of superfriends with the title... or now I thought of it shortly before writing this, hearing “Meanwhile at the legion of doom” when they cut to fowl.. or rather “Meanwhile at FOWL” but in that same announcers voice. I”m a dork, that should be obvious But I was hyped for both episodes: Violet is a faviorite mine, I ship her with huey so them interacting for the first time was wonderful to me, and.. okay the subplot didn’t hook me and we’ll get to that, but we had her dads and one of my other faviorites (I have several, get used to it now) , Lena , at least putting in an apperance. And honestly.. the main plot lived up to it. As I said I didn’t really dig the sub plot, more on that in a second, but I REALLY enjoyed this. From the begining Huey was my faviorite of the three triplets, easily, as it’s fairly easy for me a grown ass dork with anxiety, self confidence, anger issues, depression and constant self doubt, to relate to a little duck with the same and I’ve loved Danny Pudi since community, so naturally I was excited for his turn for a spotlight season.  And again the show didn’t disapoint.. Huey has a rather decent arc with some unexpected turns: First unexpectly, the trailer lied as while Huey and Violet look ultra competiive, theirs no real confilct..s econds after that bit the two shake hands (after a good 20 seconds of adorable and hilarous failure to do so that fits both like a glove.), and try to be good sports. The problem is instead internal: As Huey muses to his siblings (Webby very much included, getting her own great bit of encouraging Huey while also assuring Violet she’s also great he just needs it more, which is accurate) “If i’m not hte best junior woodchuck who am I”. Like Louie last season towards the begining (when he didn’t have a clear purpose in their adventuring dynamic) and towards the end (When della nearly took it away from him), he’s nothing without his sense of who he is. It’s easily why he’s the one to comfort him when his other siblings are either torn between two friends or you know, Dewey. Louie knows what it’s like to be rattled about who you are.  And WHY Violet outclassing him rattles him so much is intreating and to me makes a ton of sense: Huey’s identity to me is so wrapped in his intellegence and woodchuckery because , besides being oldest, it’s what he HAS on his brothers. When you think about it, Louie is the charmer, Dewey is charsmaticin his own way and loves hogging attention not to mention being fairly athletic... to stand out Huey NEEDS his brains to be the one with facts, and plans and his book.  He may not be the first on the front lines but he’s the first to solve a trap or figure out where they are if scrooge or his mom hasn’t already.. and if someone’s markdely better at that, and worse in an activity that’s wholy his own and now it’s been revealed impmortant to his mom.. just who is he.  The poor kid simply breaks down at the thought and takes bigger and stupider risks, which is sad to watch.. and thankfully lightned by his delightful mental brekadown in the form of the stephen root voiced JW Guidebook, a talking hallucination who gives huey his knowledge and edge back in the contest.. but it’s STILL not enough. And that’s when the other intresting bit comes into play: Huey.. has a moment of weakness. Despite the guidebook saying to always save your fellow woodchucks when violet gets stuck slipping in a tree.. he does nothing and leaves, despite JW  , whose now become his concious, begging him not to. It’s a sad, well done moment, and one that makes the story richer. Naturally violet escapes and when huey falls off the lava bridge to the finish line in a nother moment of desperation, and after a returning JW burns because apparently ducks and sabrewings are fireproof but imaginary manfestations of knowledge arne’t, she saves him... and is a good friend and woodchuck in NOT chastizing huey for his moment of weakness earlier, but comforting him, revealing she’s tried three times before and adding some more depth to her character: Despite her awkardness with people, she’s a kind, caring person, and gives Huey the lesson he needs: faliure, and the ocasional bout of moral weakness, is okay.. what matters is you learn from it, dust yourself off and keep going. Huey bows out due to this, as while violet is more than willing to let him pass with her, Huey knows he hasn’t earned it, yet, but he can keep trying and that this is her moment, not his. And in that, I feel learns that he dosen’t NEED recognition to be his best self.. he just needs to be a good person and a good woodchuk. I’ts a damn fine story and despite not being the intended premire, works as a great one.. mostly. And also yes I ship them.. as much as two ten-elven year olds can be, but they are adorable and geninley have a good repore.  And before I get to the dispaointing subplot, i’d be an idiot if I left out Violet’s family: We meet her dads, hilariously wearing shirts that say i’m with dad which is also really fucking adorable, and have our first onscreen conformation that Lena’s now her adopted sister, with Lena loudly screaming it in one of the best lines of the episode.. it’s clever to me: it over the top makes sure that we know yes, these men are gay and her parents.. but in a needed way given disney’s tendncy to dance around that or loudly proclaim a minor character no one cares about is gay in a way they can edit out. It’s a great step forward for the channel and the company and good on the crew for going ahead with it and good on disney for not beign dumb about it, nor, like again they have a bad habit of doing, loudly shouting about it to the media. Excellent work.
Now i’m done rambling about Huey’s psyche and america’s new faviorite gay couple, I gotta get the suplot out of the way: while the whiporwill is freaking adorable as is dewey’s bond with it, otherwise this plot is.. really damn weak: it has some good jokes (Louie’s blunt no when Scrooge asks if hte family wants to fight a bear, Webby’s disapointment when she finds their not walking in the path of literal giants, Donald’s runner with the spy drone mosquito (and Della’s instiance to just let it suck his blood), and Della proving she has the family temper with her own donald brand angry dance) it’s just.. not enoguh. It feels like it’s an oblogiatory plto for the family and while it does set up the season’s overaching plot with a strong character, as it’s intresting learning that Scrooge had an idol at adventuring and thus is following a legacy himself, overall the subplot itself is just there and distracting from the much more intresting A-Story. That being said it was at least sorta worth it for the ending bit where huey and violet suprisingly find launchpad at the end of the trial in a cave.. as do the duckfamily, both groups crying out “Launchpad?!” with launchpad giving out a hilarious “that’s me, i’m launchpad” and while the setup for it was weak, the idea of the family going around the globe to find missing mysteries wile fighting fowl over them is a great concept. Overall a really damn strong start to the season with a weak b-plot and i’m gald even if this isn’t what htey planned to start with it’s what they went with.  Quack Pack: Quack Pack.. is one of disney’s secret shames.. I mean it’s not SO secret as it’s on D+ while this show’s predecessor wonder over yonder and superhero fantasy classic american dragon jake long are not for reasons I sitll don’t get, but that’s a rant for another day. It clashed badly with ducktlaes, was meiocre most of the time (It helps the two episodes I did watch were donald focused as he, a nicely redeisgned dasiy, and their co-worker kent were the highlights), with the boys somehow being more obnoxious than they were at their worst in the original ducktales.  Now that’s off my chest the episode itself.. is really damn good and a nice take on sitcom parody, with the family getting ready for a photo. Dewey’s “since the internet” line in paticular killed because, having watched boths ome of the best sitcoms (roseanne, designing women) and some of the absolute worst (My wife and kids, last man standing, home imporvment etc), most modern ones i’ve seen, even the good ones, have kids written this terrible way. Otherwise though it was highly enjoyable and having Jaleel “Urkel/Sonic the Hedgehog” white here to take the piss out of his former genre as Gene (and doing such a great job I really want to see Gene back next season), is the icing. That and Huey going half insane trying to figure out what’s going on, as well as the unsettling reveal of the studio audience.  Really the ep is a laugh fest, as well as the glorious arrival of goofy who to my relief, wasn’t a hallucination.. which itself is a great gag as is the offscreen internal thought of “okay so now htey ahve to take goofy with them on this deadly adventure all the way back to the states?”. The using of the adults old designs, as well as having dewey do the triplets dance and wear an outfit similar to theirs from “Mr Duck Steps Out” (Which I saw earlier this year and other than daisy’s horrifying early voice it wasn’t half bad). It’s just hard to go into and throughly enjoyable. But analysis right the real meat is in my boy donald: Going into the ep I genuinely expected Dewey to be the obvious source of the wish: while knowing gene was involved meant it was easy to see it was his fault HOW was a good question.. but having Donald do so and throughly enjoyable, and naturally gives us two great gags int he rwo: Donald’s VERY donald response “I wish for that 6 times a day! how wsas I supposed to know I was rubbing up against a magical lamp” and everyone spouting off their catcphrases, all either actual ones, basically something she does all the time turned into one (della) or poor beakly who gets “i’m not a spy” for some reason an dis cross about it. But the fact Donald not only figured it out quickly but wants to stay.. is perfectly in character. Donald in general, and especailly here, dosen’t WANT to be an adventuer anymore: he does it for his family, but he’d probably perfer the tgif lifestyle where problems are minor and solved with heartwarming lessons.. not full of lingering restiments, damage you caused, or loosing a decade of your sisters life and having to struggle to care for her kids. The rest of the familys looks when he gives his reasoning say it all: they really get why he wants this.. but Huey, who nicely got to be the one to break the sitcom news to them on top of everything else, makes an even better one: their lives are who they are.. this.. isn’t real. LIkea tgif sitcom it’s a plastic imitation of life that’s nothing like it: it’s comforting sure since hte real world is fucking complicated and miserable at times.. but hiding from it dosen’t fix things.  And while Donald, of course angrily denies this while his family ends upf ighting the studio audience, it’s Goofy, loveable guest star and everyone’s other faviorite dad, who gets his friend to see the truth: eveyr family has thieir own normal. He and max are  widower and his kid. Just a family of three (I”m counting PJ since , by his tene years at least, Peg is missing, though Iw ish she’d come back as her and goofy would be cute and she deserves better than Pete but whatever, and his dad is an emotionally abusive douchehead). But their happy, they make memories even if goofy like donald can’t walk five feet without the universe, and that’s what counts> it’s a touching sentiment and i’m happy Donald now has a friend whose also a parent and probably made similar sacrifices, and some Donald hasn’t had to just yet and probably won’t now dellas back, but made it through. So donald helps his family fight the  humanoids, take sa picture and it’s just a genuinely sweet ending... a great episode with a great concept that also opens the door for the return of the world’s other best dad more times. And again I want to see him smooch pete’s ex wife. This is the hill I will die on apaprently.. and with that I leave you. it was a good start a fun thing ot dive into and I hope for more.. oh and before I go, while i’m not a GIANT max and roxanne shipper, Idon’t dislike the ship I just don’t hav ea large attachment, it was absolutley WONDERFUL to see that they went to prom together. Okay i’m done, until next week, courage and stay safe.

MINE COMRADE BLEASE,,, GIVE ME THE GOOD GOOD VIOLETS DADS HEADCANONS. LET ME HEAR ABT ANDEAN & VERDIN
THANKS FOR THE REMINDER, FRIEND!!!! Some of these I mentioned in my Soulmate AU stuff so they might feel familiar. Others are backstory I hadn’t shared or new ideas since then. Anyway!
Sabrewing Dads HCs Because Frank Still Won’t Give Us Canon Content:
Andean is a writer. Works from home so Lena who doesn’t do school will sometimes just hang out and listen to keys clicking from his computer.
He volunteers at the library on Saturdays, and after adopting Vi the two of them go together. That’s how she meets Quackfaster, and I imagine that’s what she was doing at the start of Moonvasion.
So, they have family day on Sundays, all chilling out. Sometimes Vi and Verdin play chess. And almost always Andean pulls out a book and reads aloud. Totally does character voices and has an impressive range.
Is that range from years of work as a SHUSH agent? Perhaps.
Andean is based on Andean Emerald Hummingbirds, so green hair/feathers, and gold, white, and brown on the rest of his body.
Verdin has a golden head and white/gray body feathers. He’s based on a verdin songbird.
Verdin can do magic! Where Lena’s is pinkish purple, his is blue-green. He doesn’t use it much, but when Magica tries to take Lena away from them, he gives her a taste of her own medicine. Promises to never let them get hurt.
After that he teaches Lena some lighter magic that she doesn’t associate with her aunt and is more comfortable using.
He’s a lawyer, and his office is about two blocks from Vi’s school. Sometimes instead of walking home she walks to his office and takes naps in his big windowsill. He carries her out to the car and drives home. Has never once woken her up, and it’s been years.
He also deals with insomnia and loves to watch documentaries late at night. Sometimes Lena sits up with him. Sometimes he watches her bake and talks about his day, just to fill the silence.

Okay, so, I’m all for giving credit where credit is due, especially when it comes to LGBTQIA+ rep but DuckTales doesn’t actually have all this representation. At least canonically.
A majority of what you described here as “DT having queer rep” are headcanons and not intentional coding on par of the writers.
The only REAL rep DuckTales has are Violet’s dads (which I wanna remind ppl that Frank himself said don’t praise us for the bare minimum) and Penny being lesbian.
That’s it.
The show has no other canonical LGBTQIA+ rep in its cast.
Launchpad is a weird case bc as much as the show and the writers hint that he’s bi or pan, they never straight up confirm that in canon explicitly. So that one is mainly up for interpretation.
People on the staff drawing Dellumbra art doesn’t automatically equal Dellumbra being canon in the show because the show itself never showed that.
Gyro’s design wasn’t intentionally trans-coded, that’s just how Disney designs most of their chicken characters regardless of their gender. The flashback design of him is meant to reference his OG design from the 1987 series, so again not real trans-coding or representation.
Real Violet Sabrewings being male IRL while the character is female isn’t real coding either because the show never alludes or hints that Violet was AMAB at all. It’s moreso the crew didn’t think about the regular gender the bird has and just had fun with a female character bc of the name.
Boyd is one I can actually semi-agree with, as his story can be one that resonates with queer people but whether that was intentional or not I can’t say. If it was, then this counts as canon rep. If it wasn’t then it doesn’t.
Lena’s story is more about an abuse victim breaking away from their abuser and starting a new, happier, and healthier life with a better family. While her identity comes into play about whether she’s her own person or just Magica’s shadow, that’s not really LGBTQIA+ rep? It’s just a coming of age narrative that you see in most shows.
The Scrooge and Webby thing is a mess to analyze with what the show gives us and how the twist is presented. But just because Webby and Scrooge are different genders that doesn’t automatically mean one of them is trans. We’re shown how they both were as babies and as kids and we see Scrooge was shown to be AMAB and Webby was show to be AFAB (or creation I guess). So its hard to say if it’s actual trans-rep when everything else surrounding it contradicts that idea.
Now, I’m not saying all this to be a jerk or ruin any one’s fun, that’s so not what I’m getting at. I’m all for headcanoning characters however you please (as long as it’s safe and legal lol) but that’s the thing. As I stated earlier, a majority of this “representation” you claim the show has is NOT real representation.
They are YOUR interpretations of what the show presents.
And you know what? That’s amazing. If you can look at these characters and identify with them because something in their story reminds you of yourself, or someone you know, or anything like that, do it. Headcanon it as much as you want. Make the content you want to see of that character representing that part of you. Have fun. Enjoy yourself.
But the show did not truly give us this rep. The show was never this explicit or blatant about any of this “coding” or “representation” outside of two instances.
YOU did this. YOU came up with all these ideas that the show could of only hoped they used. YOU created this representation. IT WAS ALL YOU. Not the show.
Do not give the show credit for YOUR ideas.
As much as I love The Owl House for its lgbtq rep on the big screen coming from Disney, I feel like Ducktales 17 should really get the credit first for its rep! I mean literally they started it!
- Dt17 started in 2017, TOH started in 2020
- Violet canonically has two dads
- LP is canonically Bi
- Penumbra is canonically a Lesbian
- People who worked on the show drew art of Della and Penumbra together
- Gyro is labeled as a chicken but DOESNT have features that other roosters in the show has, and his outfit from the flashbacks from Astro BOYD can probably show he is transcoded!
-Similar stuff with Violet! In real life, Violet Saberwings are only Male but in the show, she is a Violet Saberwing, hence her name and a female! She is also transcoded according to me bc I make the rules!
- Boyd was given the opportunity to chose his identity and his own proper name at the end of his episode, and he took it! and that in itself is rep!
- Lena got to choose her own identity and was still discovering herself in season 2&3
- Thanks to @bardicinspiration-blog for mentioning this! Webby is Scrooge’s clone but they are different genders! However with May and June being Webby’s clones, they are both female! Which means that either Scrooge or Webby are trans!
So as my point proves, DUCKTALES 17 DESERVES THE AWARD FOR LGBTQ REP IN DISNEY FIRST!!

Having thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring Beast Wildlife Adventures of K’uk Tours  invited us to spend 0 days on a customized adventure, we leapt at the opportunity.
We’ve long been fascinated by history, from the ancient and modern-day Maya peoples to the mingling of indigenous and colonial influences after the Spanish conquest led by 6th century conquistador Pedro de Alvarado.
Our action-packed itinerary gave us time to explore ancient Mayan settlements such as El Mirador and Tikal (posts on both coming soon). We also visited tourist attractions such as Lake Atitlán, the charming small town of Flores, and the National Archaeology Museum in City.
But, for our money, the can’t-miss tourist attraction in is Antigua, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. Antigua (whose name means “old ”) offers an incredible array of activities for a town with just over 45,000 residents, with colonial architecture, rich indigenous culture, massive volcanoes, colorful wildlife, and more.
Here’s a look at our picks for the Top 5 things to do in Antigua, , with an emphasis on natural and historical attractions.

FROM GUATEMALA CITY TO ANTIGUA
Antigua is located approximately 35 kilometers (2 miles) southwest of City, which makes it easy to visit Antigua during your vacation.
But if you’re coming from La Aurora International Airport, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get there quickly. Depending on traffic, road conditions, and other unpredictable factors, getting to Antigua could take anywhere from 40 minutes to several hours.
Here’s a quick look at the various ways to get from City to Antigua:
• Take the Chicken Bus: Although this option is cheap (around $.25 US) and rich with local flavor, we don’t recommend using the public bus. For one, crime can be an issue, as can the language barrier unless you’ve mastered Spanish.
• Book a Shared Shuttle: This is the best budget-friendly option– usually $0 to $5 per person– and can be reserved in advance. There’s even an eco-friendly option, READ MORE: Things to Do in for Nature Lovers

The fantastic facade of the Antigua Cathedral
. Visit the Antigua Cathedral
Also known as the Saint Joseph Cathedral (or Catedral de San José in Spanish), the Antigua Cathedral is located right on the city’s popular Parque Central.
The original church was built on the site sometime around 54, but suffered through a number of devastating earthquakes and was ultimately demolished in 669. It was rebuilt over the next decade, and by the mid-700s it was one of the largest 773 earthquake, which began on July 29 and lasted through December. Antigua (then known as Santiago de los Caballeros de ) was at that time the colonial capital of Central America. But the earthquake’s destruction was so bad, Spanish authorities decided to move the capital to what is now known as City.
Fortunately, the two front towers remained mostly intact and were extensively restored in the early 800s, and the cathedral was partially rebuilt. Get up close to the gorgeous facade and you’ll notice hands missing from some of the statues of saints, which could not be repaired after the earthquake damaged them.
The inside of the church is now an extremely popular wedding venue (there was one about to start when we visited). And the outside looks especially beautiful at night, when the most beautiful of the many churches in Antigua, is illuminated.

Chicken Bus ready to roll out
5. Check Out the Chicken Bus Terminal
The Chicken Bus is a memorable, unusual part of the travel experience. These brilliant bursts of color are a common sight throughout the country, but it just so happens there’s an entire terminal of them right behind the Mercado de Antigua.
Known locally as La Camioneta, these vehicles begin their lives as U.S. school buses, which are typically auctioned off after 0 years or 50,000 miles. Most are purchased for under $2000, then driven back to and neighboring countries in Central America.
Once there, they’re transformed into something infinitely more interesting. The yellow paint is replaced by wild designs, with crazy colors running from hood and windshield to bumper. There may be artistic murals or names of the owner’s girlfriend, and you may find the exit doors plastered with wrestling posters.
The insides of Chicken Buses are typically decked out in festive READ MORE: The Chicken Bus, ’s Unusual Mode of Transport

Jade Mask at Jade Maya
0. Visit Jade Maya
Jade is a generic term used to describe two different types of stones, both of which are best known for their green varieties. Jadeite is a silicate comprised of sodium and aluminum, while nephrite is contains calcium and magnesium. Jadeite is the denser of the two, and comes in a more brilliant range of colors.
Jade has been a prized part of Jade Maya was founded in 974 by archaeologist Mary Lou Ridinger with her husband, Jay. Mary Lou was the first to discover jade quarries in that had been lost for hundreds of years, since the time of the Spanish Conquest. As a result, Jade Maya feels as much like a museum as it does a store.
We learned a lot about the history of Jade, not just in Latin America but also in Asia, as well as how to differentiate between the different types. (Let’s just say that nephrite doesn’t stand up nearly as well to a good hammering!)
There are some incredible jade artifacts and reproductions on display, as well as a slick modern shop offering jade jewelry, carvings, and museum replicas for almost every budget. Our favorites were the Mayan astrology jade necklaces, with signs based on the actual day (including year) you were born.

. Eat at Restaurante Posada de Don Rodrigo
One of our favorite Antigua, restaurants, Restaurante Posada de Don Rodrigo is attached to the hotel of the same name. The hotel consists of three restored colonial residences, one of which, (the 300-year-old “Casa de Los Leones”) is a n National Historic Monument.
Located two blocks north of the Parque Central, the complex boasts an exquisitely landscaped courtyard with colorful flowers and a fountain at its center. Sitting outdoors on the shaded patio, it made a picturesque setting with Volcán de Agua looming large in the background.
If stunning scenic views aren’t your thing, lunchtime at the romantic restaurant features lively music from a live Marimba band. Dinners is usually accompanied by a performance of n folk dancing (in traditional costume dress) by Baile de los Moros.
But our favorite thing about this taste of old world Antigua was the tipical food. Traditional dishes such as Plato Chapin (barbecue platter), Chiles Rellenos, and Pepian (a spicy chicken stew that should be ’s national dish) were fresh and incredibly delicious.
As were the piping hot tortillas being made by hand right by our table!

Antigua seen from the Cerro de la Cruz Lookout
2. See the City From Cerro de la Cruz Lookout
Wherever you go in Antigua, you’ll likely notice the Cerro de la Cruz (Cross on the Hill) on the north side of town.
The massive cross was installed in honor of the city’s patron saint in 930, and the hill was where American helicopters landed to deliver emergency supplies after roads from City to Antigua were destroyed by the 976 earthquake.
Several years ago the road to Cerro de la Cruz from Antigua was the site of several muggings, but these days police officers patrol the area from 8AM to 4PM daily. We heard that police will also escort tourists up to the landmark from the Parque Central at certain times, but our tour guide took us up.
Entrance to the site is free, but there is a 5 Quetzal (around 65¢) parking fee. Once you arrive, you’ll see numerous vendors selling water, snacks, and souvenirs as you make your way down to the Mirador de la Cruz (Cross’ Lookout).
The view from here is positively breathtaking, with the entire colorful city surrounded by the three dramatic volcanoes. The best time of day to visit is the morning, before the crowds arrive and the clouds gather to obscure the mountains’ summits.

Iglesia de la Merced
3. Visit Iglesia de la Merced
Semana Santa in Antigua, is widely considered to ranks among the world’s great cultural festivals. The exquisitely designed Iglesia de la Merced, which is located on the city’s north side, is where all of the pageantry begins.
The Mercedarians (a.k.a. Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy)– a Catholic order established in Barcelona in 28– were the first to establish a monastery in the city formerly known as Santiago de . The church’s remarkable Baroque-style façade features an effigy of order founder San Pedro Nolasco, flanked by two Mercedarians and the order’s crest.
The cross in the atrium and the rooms behind the main altar are the oldest parts of the church, dating back to the 7th century. The luxurious sanctuary and cloister were built by Juan de Dios Estrada, who wisely used low height and wide arches and columns to help the building withstand earthquakes. Iglesia de la Merced officially opened to the public in 767.
The interior of the church is truly a marvel, but unfortunately there are no photographs allowed inside the building. The policy is easy to understand once you’re inside and realize that there are typically multiple different services and going on in the various chapels.
Antigua’s Holy Week celebration is one of the most popular tourist attractions, and it starts right at the church’s entrance. Natural rugs known as alfombras blanket the city’s sidewalks and streets, with vibrantly dyed sawdust, pine straw, fruit, nuts, and flowers arranged into intricate colorful designs using stencils.
We’re hoping to go back during Easter at some point to see the famed Semana Santa processionals (which include 7,000 pound floats topped by statues of Christian icons) for ourselves.

4. Chocolate Indulgence at ChocoMuseo
Though many people associate chocolate with producers of artisanal chocolate (which makes sense, as many experts consider the birthplace of chocolate). This chocolate museum in Antigua is a great place to learn about the history of chocolate, as well as getting a hands-on introduction to the production process.
ChocoMuseo offers an array of classes and workshops, as well as free museum tours. The most popular is their Beans-to-Bar Workshop, which is offered three times a day and gives guests a chance to make cocoa tea, European and Mayan hot cocoa, and a box of their own handmade chocolates to take home.
Other offerings include 90-minute and 3-hour cooking classes (with meals included), a 2-hour truffle-making workshop, and a full-day tour that includes visiting a working cacao plantation.

5. Watch Volcan de Fuego Erupt
Antigua has three massive volcanoes that dominate its landscape, with Volcán de Agua to the south of the city and Volcán de Fuego and Acatenango side-by-side to the southwest. Collectively, the later two are known as the La Horqueta complex.
Of these three behemoths, the “Volcano of Fire” (or Chi Q’aq’, which means “where the fire is” in Kaqchikel) is by far the most active. Located less than 0 miles from the city, Fuego lives up to its name by emitting small eruptions of gas and ash approximately every 5 to 20 minutes!
According to most records, it’s been doing this for hundreds of years, since the time of the Spanish conquest of . But occasionally these eruptions (which typically spew andesite and basalt lava) are much bigger, including significant events in June and November of 208.
The first one resulted in nearly 60 deaths and more than 300 injuries, with countless Antigua  residents evacuated and the international airport in City closed. The latter eruption led to preventive evacuations of approximately 4,000 people from communities in and around Antigua.
In short, this is not a volcano I would personally be willing to hike, climb, or live anywhere close to. But the summit can be almost breathtakingly beautiful at night, when the fiery glow glimmers against the starry sky.

Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo via Booking.com
HOTEL POSADA DE DON RODRIGO
With a 9.0 rating on Booking.com, this charming Antigua hotel is located inside three restored colonial houses, one of which is a National Historic Monument.
