”Is that a proposal” VS "non-mutual love": Weddings, weddings all around
At the risk of dredging a topic that's been beaten to death... I know all the SanNami fans already talk about WCI a lot, but hopefully what I'm saying is new or informative and exciting.
Even after declaring that he wants to come back and Luffy takes him back with open arms, Sanji still looks absolutely miserable and depressed. However, the moment Nami tells him she's taking him back, he pretty much immediately turns back to normal. Flying hearts and all.
Even Luffy seem to notice and goes "Oh great, everything is all fine now". (raw note: he just says "I'm somehow relieved now", but it's not overly different)
By the way, specifically, when Sanji asks if that's a proposal... It might seem a bit extreme, like you might wonder why would he assume proposal and not just "confession".
The reason is probably because Nami says "We're taking you back" with kaette kite morau 帰って来て貰う (i.e "receiving you back"). One of the indirect phrases to say "get married" is yome ni morau 嫁に貰う, literally means to "receive a wife" (into the husband's household).
This could just be a momentary gag, but here's a possible hot take for it: It basically subverts the whole Big Mum wedding entirely.
It's less common, but if the wife's family is more powerful, sometimes they would "receive" the husband into their family instead of sending out the daughter to the husband's family. No matter what Judge says or thinks, Big Mum is the stronger party here. Even suppose this wedding wasn't a fraud, for all accounts it's Sanji that's being taken into the Charlotte family.
He's only going along with it because he feared people would die, but if Nami's proposing? It's yes all the way.
Would you look at that, the groom is being taken in by another family already, bye.
And also, the colours:
In Japan, red and white together (kouhaku 紅白) means blessings from the divine, and is used for decoration and gifts in celebrations. Of course, among others, that also includes weddings. Pairs of red and white kouhaku mochi or manju are sometimes served to the wedding guests, and guests often bring gifts tied with red and white string.
Some say it's because the red means life and the white means death, symbolising a whole lifetime.
This all in contrast to the "non mutual love" re:Pudding...
This might be controversial because I dare to say the official translation is wrong, but in chapter 902, when the flowers and trees started singing Soul Pocus, the part about the prince and princess is messed up. This is how it should be:
They're saying "the prince and princess don't share mutual love" and this is all a massive farce. You can see the whole page retranslation by me here, but I repeat, both the fan translation and the official ones are wrong.
This? This is wrong:
I believe the reason why the translator got tripped up is because in the raw, the phrase is written like this: 引かれ会わない\.
引かれ means pulling. 会わない means "not meeting/not connecting". It seems that because of that the translators thought it means "pulling apart".
But the problem here is 引かれ合う is supposed to be a joint phrase that means "mutual attraction". Making it the negative form, 引かれ会わない, makes it mean "not mutual attraction".
And no, this does not include mutual pining where two people are in love but aren't aware of each other's feelings.
The Soul Pocus song was recounting the whole mess that had happened. A sham wedding, pulling death-defying stunts to escape, all hell now breaks loose. The fact that there's a specific mention of "love that is not mutual" seems pretty important.
Not to mention that the narration is overlayed over a picture of Pudding, who is crying heartbrokenly while holding on Sanji's memory clips, while Sanji is comforting Carrot and mourning over Pedro and pretty much already moved on.
By all accounts the presentation looks like it's telling us "Pudding likes Sanji, but he does not return the sentiments at all".
Remember. He was so depressed before, and so worried about Luffy and Nami, and he was basically having to force himself to make the heart eyes even when he was still thinking Pudding was nice. His priorities is always Nami and the other Straw Hats first.
Plus, how can these even compare:
This again relates to one of the comments I previously made about WCI: In multiple moments between Sanji and Pudding that could look sweet, Oda-sensei draws Sanji with stupid faces, and basically "ruins" the scene by it.

SaNami in Thriller Bark and Whole Cake: How one arc was used to foreshadow the other
In this post I will talk about how Sanji's and Nami's storylines in Thriller Bark were used to foreshadow a lof of elements that played out in Whole Cake Island...
... and might as well foreshadow their dynamic in future arcs.
I decided to write this post after I rewatched Thriller Bark.
As the episodes went by, having in mind that I had already caught up on Wano in the anime, I noticed some odd… similarities left in Thriller Bark that made me realize how much it foreshadowed future arcs (like Marine Ford and Fishman Island), but especially Whole Cake Island (and Egghead, but this is an analysis for the next post) especially the moments relating to Sanji and Nami.
I also remembered something that was speculation at the time and if anyone has a source for this information, please share, since it's been a while I've read about it and I don't remember where I got it from: apparently, during the time Marine Ford was being animated (and the manga was in Fishman Island) one of Oda's employees lost some type of sketchbook containing concepts and plans about Whole Cake Arc.
If this is true, it means that Oda had a lot of things figured out way ahead of the current storyline of One Piece - which is not exactly a surprise. But after rewatching Thriller Bark, I dare to speculate that Oda already had a lot of things planned for Whole Cake even before Fishman Island and even Marineford, and he actually used Thriller Bark itself to foreshadow it.
Obviously, every arc of One Piece usually leaves hints to future arcs (especially when it comes to Wano and Elbaf - Oda foreshadows both in almost every arc), but I'd like to take a moment to talk about the ones (on top of my head) that Thriller Bark left hints of.
Wano: Zoro's encounter with Ryuma's Zombie and Moria mentions Kaido.
Marineford: By the very end of the Thriller Bark arc, Boa Hancock's name is mentioned, and we also have a scene of Lola warning Luffy about Ace's vivre card.
These are just some of the elements I remember and won't get into much detail, otherwise this post would need two parts lol.
Anyway, with what I said in mind, there's one arc that Thriller Bark strangely foreshadows more than any other and, not only that, but also introduces elements that will later be essential in said arc: which is Whole Cake Island. There are so many moments thrown here and there, especially during Sanji and Nami's moments, that it got me curious to know for how long Oda:
Had planned to write Whole Cake
Had the entirety of Sanji's storyline figured out
Had planned some specific interactions between certain characters
As you can already guess by the title of this analysis, my assumption is that Sanji and Nami's roles and interactions in Whole Cake Island were something that Oda had planned ever since Thriller Bark… and maybe even before.
In this next part, I will show you the reasons why and also why I think that some of their moments in Thriller Bark still weren't mirrored in Whole Cake but might be in Egghead or maybe Elbaf.
Nami and Sanji’s roles in Thriller Bark
First, let's remember what happens to Nami and Sanji separately and how both their storylines intersect throughout Thriller Bark.
Nami starts off by getting lost from the Straw Hats along with Usopp and Chopper (the infamous Weak Trio) inside Thriller Bark. Through their perspective we see how weird and macabre the setting is and how there is something wrong with its inhabitants - specifically Doctor Hogback.
Meanwhile, Luffy, Sanji and the rest of the Straw Hats follow the trio's tracks and have an entirely different perception of the place. Through their perspective, everything that scared Usopp, Nami and Chopper is… kinda pathetic and weak? Lol, I loved how Oda planned this.
Once the Weak Trio arrives at Dr. Hogback's Manor, Nami is assaulted (ugh) by an invisible Absalom (mind you, a guy who has lion parts - a symbol that usually is connected to her throughout One Piece) and he decides to take her as his wife. Meanwhile, as the trio tries to escape, and the rest of the Straw Hats are looking for them, Sanji's and Zoro's shadows are taken by Gecko Moria and put inside Zombies. Something interesting happens: because Sanji is not well known like Zoro, Moria underestimates him and puts his shadow inside the body of a weaker Zombie (keep that in mind for later).
Sanji's zombie finds Usopp, Chopper and Nami, and rebels against his "programming" to protect Nami specifically.
That's when Moria's minions realize that Sanji is much stronger than they anticipated.
Later, Chopper and Usopp escape, but Nami is taken by Absalom. She also meets a Zombie named Lola whom she ends up befriending. Through Usopp, (original) Sanji finds out Nami was harassed by Absalom and was planning to force her into a marriage.
He gets so mad, he lights himself on fire and we have these interesting exchanges.
(Posting two translations of the same panel because both translations are so interesting: one of them Zoro says that he might “transform” into something, but the other says he might “mutate” - and considering the things we know now of Sanji’s past once again shows how Oda gives a lot of thought to Sanji’s characterization.
Anyway, if anyone knows which phrase is the closest to the original japanese and what else it could be talking about, feel free to comment or DM! I have zero knowledge of Japanese and I just know how many hints we might be missing because of it).
Meanwhile, Nami is (probably) drugged by Absalom and is carried to the altar to get married.
Obviously (and under Luffy's orders) Sanji goes to look for Nami and we know how things go after this. He
crashes Nami's "wedding",
fights Absalom as he protects her body against any minor harm,
and ends up talking about his dream to become invisible and how he studied devil fruits when he was a kid (that moment for me is enough to prove that Oda had already planned Sanji's entire storyline with Germa, his siblings and his metal mask - I will talk about it in more detail later)
All of that effort seemed to go nowhere since Sanji was unable to free Nami. Absalom escapes with her and tries to marry her again, only for her to (finally) wake up and defeat him.
That's when we realise that it was thanks to Sanji, who weakened Absalom in their previous fight, that Nami was able to (in a sense) oneshot Absalom so easily.
So, unbeknown to himself and Nami, Sanji did end up saving Nami - this is an interesting motif in their relationship, and something I plan to talk about more in future posts.
Later, after everything is resolved, Nami befriends the real Lola. Lola not only talks about her mother Linlin (the Big Mom, one of the Four powerful Yonkos) but also gives Nami Linlin's vivre card. Only later in Whole Cake we find out Lola ran away from home and Chiffon mentions how she rejected the advances of a prince (Loki - Elbaf foreshadow) whom Nami takes interest upon for being… well, a prince.
Obviously a bunch of other things happen, but I only talked about the points I wanted to explore in this analysis. I'm sure you noticed there's a lot of them to talk about already.
Also, if you watched/read WCI I'm sure that, as I listed what happened in Thriller Bark, you already noticed how there are some interesting elements in it that later become crucial for While Cake to play out the way it did.
As I mentioned, one of the most important things that I think Oda had been planning to write ever since Thriller Bark (or before) was for Nami specifically to participate in Whole Cake.
This part I will leave for last, since the next topics will serve as a way to explain it.
TB Absalom's Invisibility and Sanji's Dream mirror WCI Stealth Black and the Rejected Germa Prince Storyline
Well, this topic is kinda controversial because of the sexual undertones it has and because of how Oda portrays Sanji's perviness. I won't talk about this part here since it's not the focus of this analysis, but I will link you to an amazing post that explores exactly that part of Sanji's character.
Here I will focus on the other part that Oda left implicit: which is the fact that Sanji had the dream to be invisible ever since he was a kid (when he still didn't have his hyperfixation on women) and how, at the same time, it was the exact power he was "supposed" to have as a Germa soldier and prince.
To me Oda not only used Absalom's powers as a way to leave open the possibility of Sanji having invisibility related powers in the future (which he kinda did in Wano), but also to tie it to his past with Germa.
Only now do we know that the power Sanji was originally supposed to have was invisibility and the fact that Oda put Absalom with that exact power might show how ahead he was on the story (or how good he is with improvising hehe).
Now, this raises the question: if Sanji's mutation was supposed to be invisibility, where exactly did those fire powers come from? (This is something for a future post ;))
TB Nami and Lola mirrors WCI Nami and Chiffon
Through the bond Oda developed between Lola and Nami, the Straw Hats (and we, readers) gathered a lot of important information that would later be used by Nami herself to survive their adventure through Whole Cake.
First, Lola had a twin sister, Chiffon, who, because of the bond already established between Lola and Nami, ended up taking a liking to Nami in Whole Cake (and vice versa).
Big Mom's Family and Political Marriages
Second, as we get to know Lola in Thriller Bark we see that the idea of finding the man she loves and marrying him is an important concept for her. This is later on explained in Whole Cake, where we realize that Big Mom uses political marriages to gain more power and wanted to force Lola to marry prince Loki. That’s the sole reason for Lola to leave Big Mom and, once again, it seems like something Oda had already planned in Thriller Bark.
Big Mom's Vivre Card
Third, the Vivre Card Lola gave Nami was crucial for Nami, Luffy and the rest of the crew to navigate through Whole Cake and control Big Mom's henchmen. A lot of the problems that they were going through in Whole Cake were resolved because of that simple vivre card given around six arcs earlier, Thriller Bark.
Sanji and Nami Wedding Crashing Each Other's Weddings and Bridal Carries
Well, this is the part the SaNami Fandom has already talked about the most and for obvious reasons. It's not everyday a ship has so many wedding motifs, and the fact that Oda chose to parallel a lot of things that happened during the wedding in Thriller Bark at Whole Cake with Sanji and Nami, obviously adds more fuel to the fire.
This topic, along with Lola, is actually the reason for me to write this analysis, since, in my opinion, there are a lot of details that seem too coincidental to be considered unplanned.
First detail: we have the fact that Nami was the main reason for Luffy to ever decide to invade Big Mom's territory and go after Sanji, whilst in Thriller Bark it was Sanji himself who was determined to stop Nami's wedding at all costs and Luffy… well, he just gave Sanji permission to do his thing lmao.
Second: during both wedding ceremonies, Sanji carried Nami bridal style; something that the groom was supposed to do with the bride.
Third detail: both Nami and Sanji were being forced to get married and it was always the other side that would try to save the forced groom/bride. The best part about this is the fact that neither Sanji nor Nami knew about the amount of difficulties the other went to save one another. Which brings me to the next topic:
Nami's Obliviousness to Sanji's efforts mirrors Sanji's obliviousness to Nami's efforts
Okay, this is more of a fact for the entirety of One Piece, but I think it's more evident in both Thriller Bark and Whole Cake. Again, although this is a topic that I want to talk about in more detail in another post, I do think it's worth mentioning a bit in here.
In Thriller Bark, Nami does not realize how important she is for Sanji and the extent of the things he is willing to do for her safety. Not only that, but Nami is also not aware of the things Sanji already did for her ever since Arlong Park.
In Whole Cake, it's more subtle, but the fact that only Luffy truly saw Sanji's breakdown and how much he was sacrificing himself for his crew, shows that Nami still does not know the true extent of Sanji's care and selflessness.
And it raises the question: why? Why is it that Oda does not let Nami (until this day) know how much Sanji did to his crew and especially to her? To me, it's because, if Nami knew, she would treat Sanji differently. If she knew that Sanji does have a preference for her, that he defended her in Arlong Park, that he tried everything he could to protect her in Thriller Bark, and that he did a lot of things he wouldn't do for any other woman, maybe her view on him would change.
Consequently some type of tension between the two could eventually build up and what Oda has been trying to avoid for years (which was a romance between the crew) would eventually happen, and the entire dynamic of the crew would shift (but this is speculation ofc, it might be nothing and even if Nami knew, nothing could change).
And let's also consider that, although Sanji looks for Nami's validation when she witnesses him fighting, he never tries to brag or tell her about the times he defended her when she wasn't looking.
Obviously, in Whole Cake, Sanji is thinking about the entire crew when he sacrificed his happiness, not only her, but as I said, it's more about the fact that Nami does not know how much Sanji truly works under wraps to make sure the people he loves are safe - and how selfless he truly is for her when she only sees his perverted side.
Now, the same can be said about Sanji, to some extent. It's clear in the manga that Sanji does have strong feelings for Nami, if it's reciprocated, it's up to debate. But no one can deny that Nami does care about Sanji and sometimes, she cares more than anyone else in her crew.
We all noticed how Nami was the most eager to rescue Sanji, always trying to bring the seriousness of the situation to the rest of the crew and dragging Chopper, Luffy and Brook to the right path whenever they got distracted by something else.
However, when it came to truly knock some sense into Sanji to accept help, Nami was conveniently taken out of the picture in favor of Luffy.
Keep in mind that I am in no way complaining, the moments Sanji had with Luffy were beautiful, and he obviously would have the focus: Luffy is the main character and Sanji's captain.
But the fact that Oda kept Nami away in one of Sanji's moments of fragility, when he exposed his true nature and showed how caring he really is, can come off as suspicious. As if Oda does not really want Nami to see those moments… yet.
You can say that Oda also kept Chopper and Brook out of the picture, but even when Nami is with them, Oda kind of separates Nami's behavior from theirs. He emphasizes Nami's reactions and gives her serious expressions while the rest are put in more comical situations.
Also, during the Luffy vs. Sanji fight, one of the most emotional moments of WCI, Nami didn't need to be there if Oda only wanted to emphasize the importance of Luffy to Sanji.
In my opinion, he put Nami there, because Sanji cares about her and her opinion more than any other woman’s, even more than Robin’s. Which makes the following moment even more hurtful, especially because that was the only time Nami didn't use the "kun" honorific - showing how she lost respect for him.
Conclusion: the importance of Sanji and Nami in each other’s stories
By looking at these topics, I think it's very interesting how Oda made sure to use parts of Nami's plot in Thriller Bark to gather information that would help her, Luffy, Brook and Chopper to save Sanji in Whole Cake.
To me, the fact that so many of these things seemed to point out something: the interactions that both Nami and Sanji have is something that Oda thinks about carefully. Not only that, but everytime they are having a major moment/development, most of the times one is there to support the other.
Examples:
In Arlong Park Sanji defended Nami's actions
In Ennies Lobby Nami had a major fight against Khalifa because she knew Sanji wouldn't fight a woman
Until Nami decided to forgive Jimbei, Sanji was there to defend her
Again, the only exception is during Sanji's and Nami’s arcs in Wano - but in my opinion it's because Oda’s intentional hiding of Sanji’s story from the other Strawhats will pay off in the future and will be a major factor in the One Piece story.
Well, this is it.
Okay, with all of those topics in mind, there are two main events in Thriller Bark that happened in relation to Nami and Sanji that still don't seem to have been mirrored:
Sanji's Zombie fought his own programming to protect Nami in Thriller Bark mirrors (?)
The underestimation of Sanji's True Power, what it truly is and how will it be activated
I plan to write that part for my analysis of SaNami in Egghead. If anyone is interested, stay tuned!
For everyone who stayed until the end, thanks for reading!! See you in the next post.

Idk how to explain this but even though “-kun” suffix suggests distance it’s also used when women wanna seem feminine/cute? Like you’d call your male classmates “-kun” if you wanna maintain a casual yet polite image, while you’ll pretty much only address your brothers by their raw name because conventions and allat don’t matter. So it seems like Nami doesn’t care about her lady image in front of other male SHs at all but in front of sanji she likes to be cute to a certain degree
#another theory is the senpai kouhai thing coz sanji is her junior in terms of joining order#but why doesn’t she call Usopp usopp-kun then#it’s not inherently romantic but it’s normally assumed to be a bit flirty#one piece#sanami#black leg sanji#vinsmoke sanji#cat burglar nami

It's good that @crepes-suzette-373 made this post because I've been wanting to voice my thoughts on this topic for a while. Iti's nothing new, but I personally find the concept of 恋/koi within the story very interesting, as I think it's the word chosen to convey Sanji's feelings for Nami deliberately. I don't think it's a topic up for debate as there's no much depth in it, but anyway, I want to post my ramblings on Sanji, how he feels about Nami and women and the perception others have for that.
恋/koi (love) as a concept is significant, and I think it will gain weight later in the story. After all, it has been heavily present from the beginning, since Sanji first mentioned it in Arlong Park, going to Hancock and Gloriosa referring to a famous East Blue's poem (Hancock's love for Luffy reminisced Gloriosa to the same love that former Amazon Lily's empresses developed), and even going through Chopper on SBS.
It's a concept that I doubt will fall on deaf ears, as in this post, I believe too that it will potentially have a significant role in the future, be it for Hancock or Sanji's side (or both).
And when it comes to Sanji, it's always been in relation to Nami (except for that one time in Dressrossa, but it was the time he fell for Viola's lies when she still pretended to be Violet).
Indeed, 恋 is exclusively romantic, and in fact I have seen some translators choose to translate it as “true love". Furthermore, it connotes “desire, longing, wanting” and refers specifically to the “falling in love” part of it.
But all of this, the part in which the author 'lets us know' that this is how Sanji feels for Nami and that's when he brings up this 'East Blue poem', that hasn't been worded by Sanji, at least yet.
Bear with me. Back in Punk Hazard, Sanji used ホレち/horechi (from verb 惚れる/horeru) which means “to fall in love”. And then, in WCI, as we already know, he does indeed use the verb 好き/suki when Nami hugs him. Compared to 恋/koi or 愛/ai, it is a much more relaxed and informal verb.
Funnily, much, much later in the story, in chapter 1005 during the Wano arc, when confronted to Black Maria, he says "I want to love all the ladies" and he uses the verb 愛したい/aishitai ('I want to love', literally). And then, in the most recent chapters, when he fights S-Shark to protect Nami, he says 愛の力/ai no chikara (the power of love). What's different from 恋/koi? Well, 恋 is used only for romantic feelings, while 愛 (which he used to refer to all the ladies) is not necessarily romantic. In fact, it refers to a kind of pure and selfless love.
So, maybe, maybe Sanji still has to have some development to know truly what kind of feelings he truly harbors, and learn what he really wants.
Further in the analysis (and I'm aware this is already a pretty cheesy post) I went on to know how others perceive Sanji's relationship with Nami.
In Thriller Bark, Absalom said 妙 に 執着/myō ni shūchaku (deep concern and attachment) to how the Penguin zombie, with Sanji's shadow, felt for Nami (that “he was strangely obsessed over her”). Later on, he says that Nami is "the woman he wanted to protect"/守りたかった.
In Gyojin Island, 過剰 に 反応/kajō ni hannō is said by Hody's pirates, which referred to him overreacting to attacks on Nami.
Robin brings attention to the topic in chapter 1078 by saying "if Nami screams, someone is gonna rush in instantly".
And let's not forget the most famous:
This is part of my reasoning and why I believe that Sanji, despite him being the one in love with Nami throughout all the story and it being an idea very present in the manga and the characters in it, might not have yet figured out how he feels and what he wants when it comes to women and love.

Hi. Do you think sanjixpudding Will be Canon? I Hope no, because i don't like how She treated him, regardless Sannami.
Hi @valentinaoo thanks for the question.
It could happen if Oda decides to bring back Purin and expand the development of their relationship. But as it is now I don't personally think it will happen and as you say I think the way she treated him is in the way and the small time they spent together is not enough for them to make sense as a good and well-developed pair.
And I also still think out of the two pairs that Sanji x Nami has a better chance of happening based on what we have gotten in the manga so far. Actually the way Oda writes Sanji with Nami is still a huge obstacle for any other Sanji pair in my own opinion.
I am open to be proven wrong of course, but as of now I would say no I don't think Sanji x Purin will become canon.

All I could think while drawing Nami was, “Wouldn’t you like to know, weatherboy?” And, of course, with Robin I was thinking, “save a horse… 🥵”
Design Notes and other opining below the cut:
For Nami, I wanted to go for a mix of cocky Jersey mafia newbie and surfer boy. I like to think that some of the horrendous outfit choices that Sanji makes (especially in the movies) were actually picked out by Nami. She’s the shopper!!! But yeah, the vibrant swim trunks and graphic tees just scream Nami. I also wanted to put him in a wetsuit/rash guard because I think that’s a sexy look so sue me if you hate it. You cannot argue with me that Nami doesn’t wear swimsuits as clothes.
He’s toned but not as muscular as Robin or Luffy (for example) because he isn’t a front-line fighter, I want him to maintain the same kind of role that Nami has in the animanga. He’s the best navigator in the world!! I couldn’t decide if I wanted to change the violent tendencies that Nami has, but ultimately I think he’d still give the more deserving members of the crew a healthy wallop (although I might portray it more cartoonishly). Boy Piece!Nami still grew up under Arlong’s authority so he spent a lot of his childhood walking on eggshells to protect his village and his brother, Nojiko, so I think he never really got to learn “you’re not supposed to hit people just because they frustrate you” lesson. I gave him a shark-tooth necklace because surely Arlong had a few loose teeth to spare once Luffy took her down. Victory spoils LOL
If he can get the girls to stop wrestling and sit down quietly for a while, he likes to host card games (with betting, of course) or watch the clouds while sipping whatever fruity cocktail Sanji whips up. I believe that Canon!Nami is a total lesbian, and I can’t possibly envision a Nami who doesn’t like women so Boy Piece!Nami is bi. I am, of course, a Namivivi truther and Vivi is also a man in this AU. I don’t hate Sanami within this dynamic though… lots to think about.
Okay!!! All-shipper mindset aside, let’s talk Robin. I gave him long hair because 1) it’s hot and 2) I think it makes him look like Dragon. Yeahhh, I subscribe to the Luffy and Robin are half-siblings theory because I think it’s funny and makes some sense. Crocodile is 100% Luffy’s Mom in this AU and I think Robin knows it LOL
For his outfits, I wanted to lean a bit more Indiana Jones where I could; he’s still primarily cowboy inspired though. For the main look, I went with the Skypeia color palette hehe, I think Robin looks good in yellow. I did some flower-petal shaped color blocking on his chaps because I think it’s cute and subtle. I really love that the powers of the Hana-Hana-no-mi are like… unexpected for a “flower flower” fruit and I think Robin would be more aware that juxtaposition as a guy. You might also be wondering about the gloves and I initially just had it for his cowboy look but I decided to put them on all the outfits up until the events of Enies Lobby. Canon!Robin has a really difficult childhood and I think it’s exacerbated by the fact that she’s a girl on her own. If Robin was a boy, he’d probably have an easier time living on his own but would be a lot less emotionally open. All of these elements combine to make him want that physical barrier between his real hands and the world. Once he can trust that the Strawhats will always be there for him, he’s more willing to be more physically open.
I also think it’d be cute if he was much more of a coffee drinker :3c I see Canon!Robin as a connoisseur who likes a well-brewed espresso but Boy Piece!Robin needs a cup of joe (no matter its quality) every chance he can get. So I drew him with his special #1 ARCHAEOLOGIST mug.
It would make me so happy if you left your thoughts in the tags or replies!! Even if you hate everything about them, I just really like engagement hahaha. I’m thinking girl Usopp is next despite the poll results because she’s on my mind rn (don’t hold me to this, LOL I’m fickle). I’m making these for fun so I just wanna make designs in the order that interests me the most. Check out the tag “girl piece” on my blog to see all the genderbends I have so far. And happy pride!!!

Rogue and Gambit in X-men 97’
This is neither One Piece nor Sanami but I’m obsessed with X-men 97’ currently and I need to talk about this somewhere
I keep seeing people say that Rogue is cheating on Gambit in X-men 97’ but that is absolutely not the truth. This is understandable because the general knowledge is that Rogue and Gambit are together because they are in the comics and I’m sure some people who watched the original X-men animated series as a child look back and remember them being together. While they were awfully flirting with one another they never got together officially
This is also probably because Rogue and Gambit were a pretty fresh couple in the early nineties so I’m sure the writers just went with the same flirty approach that they had before they got together in the comics
While it’s clear they have feelings for each other as they kiss 2 times and almost another (although one of those kisses was not consensual) and Rogue also calls herself “Mrs. Lebeau” when she needed a name (which I’m sure there was also confusion on Rogues name due to it also being fresh) they are definitely NOT together
Gambit is literally my favorite character so it’s hard bashing him so much like this but he has no right to get jealous of Rogue. Everyone on the internet keeps saying “poor Gambit” and such and I just wish they would watch the original
Gambit in the original is just not a great guy a lot of the time to Rogue. First, one time Morph flirted with Gambit as Rogue and told him that she had been lying about not being able to touch people (LIKE HOW DO YOU FALL FOR THAT HOW DOWN BAD ARE YOU) so his reaction to that is to go up to her while she’s sleeping and kissing her resulting in his passing out. Like I get you want this woman but leave her to her sleep
Second, he makes kinda creepy comments too. Like one time he tells her “you need to lay off the fried chicken” and one time she was just out of her usual fighting clothes and he said “you should dress up for me sometime” (but she did flirt back in that situation so I’ll give him that one)
Lastly, saying Rogue cheated on him is crazy because Gambit flirts and hits on so many people (even though they’re not serious he still can’t get jealous of someone else’s relationship if he’s doing that) then has the audacity to get all angsty when Rogue and Cody go on a date or when Rogue and Archangel touch and share a sentimental moment due to Rogue absorbing some of his memories one time
Okay okay and DESPITE all this I am still Rogue and Gambits biggest shipper and cheering for them in 97’ so what is going on with Magneto. People who did a single google search keep coming up with the “well Rogue and Magneto were canon in the comics”, yeah they got married in “Age of Apocalypse” but referencing couples outside of 616 is crazy. You know who else has been together when we are counting EVERY timeline? LITERALLY EVERYONE. This is Marvel comics, this is not new, everyone has hooked up and everyone will continue to hook up. Just look up a list of all the people Wolverine alone has been with
Sure they COULD go with Rogue and Magneto for X-men 97’ and I’m just a stupid dum dum for believing otherwise but I see no reason to with all the buildup of the original and that sad face Rogue made in episode 4 was a little hm….
I think this is all for a little drama, a little development, a little spice because if Marvel hates anything it’s happy couples with no problems. I am praying that this is just to improve their relationship and at the end of this stupid love triangle they will finally be together but who knows
There is also a little theory that Magneto and Rogue actually aren’t doing something too crazy. I just find it weird that they haven’t actually shown us anything (I know they can’t show us them doing something devious but maybe at least kissing) only heavily suggesting it with the training room and Gambits nightmare thing. It’s just because a lot of times shows and movies will heavily force something like someone cheating then they later find out that they were actually just spending so much time together because they were planning their birthday party or something
I sound as desperate and delusional as Gambit but I’m doing all I can. I probably should’ve just waited for tomorrow then posted this after watching the new episode but I couldn’t wait so maybe all of my thoughts and opinions will change in a few hours

Note
Luffy and Nami are my number one ship of the series too bad the author won't make them canon for whatever reason :(
theyre so cute!!!
i feel like for one piece ive become pretty lax abt my ships being canon bc i ship a LOT of them lmao. i dont know anything abt Oda's intentions for any ships tho ive seen a lot of theories (mainly from sanami shippers). I might still be way too new to the fandom but i get the sense that Luffy might never end up with anyone which i personally am fine with but yeah, the potential for Lunami could be so fun to explore

Sanami Moment Incoming??
A mini Theory on a potential future Sanami moment in Wano
OK so with the new Sanji development Queen my try to target someone else as a way to try an weaken Sanjis emotions.
we have seen others target Sanji in this way such as kuroobi
Queen could also try to go after Nami directly aswell meaning Sanji will have to save her (as well as Usopp and Tama) like with Jabra
Why would Queen choose Nami and not someone closer?
Well remember when Usopp and Nami first ran off from Ulti and Page one remember what sanji said?
one top of that we have also seen a running joke on Queen memory
I bet Queen is going to remember this moment
and is going to target Nami because of it because he is going to view Nami as Sanjis weakness just like many others have in the past.

Raw > Fan translation > Official
Just for comparison, because in the official translation the Vivi one did not use "falling for you all over again". He does say it differently in the raw, but technically speaking would translate to the same thing.
This "falling for" (惚れ・ホレ) can also be used for non-romantic admiration, for example if you're fawning on some superstar idol or actor, or even if you're just really impressed by someone (their skills, their attitude, etc). It's the perfect camouflage word to use, because it can be interpreted either way.
I've even seen a misunderstanding drama scenario surrounding the term "hore", where Person A says it to Person B with romantic intent, but Person B thinks it just means Person A was impressed by B's skills/abilities.
So, even if Sanji said that to Vivi too, there could still be a difference there. There's hearts in the dialogue and his cigarette smoke are making hearts when he was talking to Nami (seems cutesy, affectionate). When talking to Vivi it looks more neutral (looks like he's just saying it casually, simply impressed).
Besides. If you cross-reference with other Arabasta scenes, hore is what's being used here:
I don't think he ever asked this to anyone else, and it should mean something even if you interpret this as just saying "Are you impressed with me?" and not "love".
(and when he says this her response is "yeah yeah", not "stop being dumb and move along")

The Importance of Nami's Smile
There's something I noticed when reading the manga that might be important in the future... and it relates to Nami and Sanami. So, Nami's smile and laughter are implied to have saved Belle-mère. The ex-marine was about to give up on life, but seeing Nojiko holding a happy Nami gave her life meaning again.
Once Belle-mère goes back to Cocoyashi, we again see how important Nami's smile and laughter are.
Okay, besides my shipper side, I do think that there might exist some deeper meaning into why Oda chose to make Nami such a happy baby whose laughter and smile are so important and captivating - and I do feel it might connect to Joy Boy, Wano and the Lost Kingdom, but this is a theory for another day. Anyway, back to my point...
Now, do you remember what Nami was doing when Sanji first saw her?
She was laughing... her laughter was what caught his attention first.
And it's just... so cute and meaningful to me.
I just thought it was a small yet nice detail that Oda might have done on purpose (or not), and it could have an important meaning in the future.
(I also have a feeling that Nami's smile will have a great importance to the conclusion of One Piece as much as other important characteristics from each of the East Blue Straw Hats - Sanji's policy to feed anyone who is hungry might come up again, Usopp's lies will save a lot of people and Zoro's loyalty to Luffy and promise to Kuina will probably give him a huge power up to deafeat his last enemy). Again, this is a theory for another time, hehe
Of course, this is just me, and I'm probably reading too much into this... but it's nice to just analyze these things, right?
Back to Sanami...
To me, Sanji fell for Nami the moment he laid eyes on her, even if he himself might not have noticed at first. But the fact that Oda chose their first interaction to have something to do with such an important characteristic of Nami is so interesting, endearing, and meaningful.
Gosh, the panel of baby Nami smiling just breaks my heart so much. It's so beautiful. Nami is a beautiful person. She deserves the world.

sanji's similarities to sabo and how this may hint to puddings death
its been noted that sanj has similarities to sabo as well as their situation and they both first appeared as solely martial artists and later developed a fire ability ( diable jambe , sabo has a fire fruit ) sabo uses a style named the dragon claw fist (ryusoken ) which focuses on the hands and sanjis style focuses on the feet to avoid injuring the hands and they both learnt their respective martial art styles from the man who invented it who also saved their lives ( zeff and dragon respectively) onepiece . wikia . com/wiki/Ryusoken
@ximca
some posts comparing sabo and sanji everyone should read it :
orojackson . com/threads/the-thoughts-of-the-elite-sanjis-vs-sabos-predicament . 29254/ orojackson is down ( so dont bother)
This a merely a short analysis, if you will, that came upon me suddenly through the introduction of the Vinsmoke Family and their interactions with Sanji. Throughout their introduction, I was getting mad "Sabo's Childhood" vibes and the pieces clicked into place upon the release of Manga Chapter 833 (and 834, to an extent). Now, to be clear, before I go pointing out similarities and the like, I am not in any way implying that the two are in identical situations. Their circumstances are different, family structure and strength are different, and even the characters ages at the time are different! I just noticed a similarity in their circumstances. ~--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------~ Now...let's get to the main topic of this analysis!Introducing two of our favorite blonde, runaway nobles: Sabo and Sanji!!
Besides the obvious fact that both Sabo and Sanji are runaways and greatly dislike (and even renounce) their families
-Their families are rather similar in their mindset and ultimate goals (which, admittedly, are a common trait in snobbish nobles within the One Piece world). The similarity in the two’s situation will be explained in each section below. Family Goals & Motivations· Both families have a similar goal: To gain power and glorify the family name. The Vinsmoke Family wish to take over North Blue, hence the alliance with Big Mom, and Sabo’s family yearn to advance their social standing, which in turn, grants them further influence and power. If their offspring bring “shame” to the family, then they are obviously useless to the family.
In Sabo’s case, while his blood kin thought him a disgrace, his father’s solution was to trap him in the family home and try and force his ideas on him. While similar to Sanji’s father (from what we’ve seen so far), the difference is that Sabo’s father saw worth in getting Sabo back BECAUSE he was related by blood. Now Outlook III (Sabo’s father) HAD of course adopted another child as a backup, but in Vinsmoke Judge’s case, Sanji WAS the backup (despite sharing bonds by blood).
Might I also mention that both had jerks as siblings (and, by siblings, I mean siblings that are a part of their ‘blood’ family)? Family Ideas or the “Noble Privilege” · Peasants are nothing but trash. They’re meant to be used or discarded, nothing else. Part of the reason both Sanji and Sabo were seen as a disgrace was through their association with ‘commoners' or their participation in 'commoner activities,' such as cooking. Both families saw them as inferior and therefore, the tendencies of both Sabo and Sanji disgust them.
On the flip side, that blatant disregard for other people is a big part of why both sons hate their families so much. They see such attitudes as inhumane and as adults, both work against it in their own way. Sanji doesn’t let anyone go hungry and Sabo works as a revolutionary. Family Method to Power · Both families also employ an identical method in order to cement their power: Marrying off their son.
One main difference between the two, of course, were the ages of Sabo and Sanji respectively when the plan was formed. To Sabo’s parents, his fate since birth was to marry royalty to cement a higher standing for their noble family. And for Vinsmoke Judge, who was already royalty, he (seemingly) brought Sanji back for that purpose as well (marrying into a Yonko’s family = instant power). Essentially, both families brought back their blood heirs simply for the sake of marrying them off in an attempt to permanently elevate their standing. Both were completely fine with the idea of sacrificing their “useless” or “disgraceful” son for power. I thought it a curious similarity. Of course, the method makes sense as bluebloods marrying bluebloods was the norm for nobles in the past. Either way, neither of these two characters want that fate and I can’t much blame ‘em. Arranged marriages, bleck. · Both families have their heirs’ return through threatening the safety of their loved ones. This point is self-explanatory really, but the ONLY reason Sabo and Sanji returned semi-willingly to their blood kin was to protect their nakama.
That’s some low tactics there. Low, but effective. Final Tid-bit · Tenryuubito influence much? Just an observation, but am I the only one who finds the fact that both Sanji’s and Sabo’s dreams were threatened by Tenryuubito influence interesting? Both directly and indirectly, the Celestial Dragon’s managed to prevent the two’s freedom. In Sabo’s case, he set sail early to fulfil his dream and gain freedom from his parents, but a Celestial Dragon (literally) blasted that plan to bits. And in Sanji’s case, the explosive wristlets that his father had put on him keep him from attempting to escape because the detonation would destroy his hands. And if a chef has no hands…well, cooking is no longer an option. If Sanji can’t cook, then finding All Blue would be pointless and he’d no longer be able to feed the hungry or his crew. Effectively destroying his dream and “job” on the Straw Hats crew.

“-
sanji
Mostly seen wearing formal clothing, i.e. dress shirts, suits, ties etc.
- Official colour is Blue. - Blond. - Covers one eye. - Like to hang around with an orange-haired girl. - Comes from a ‘royal’ family. - Ran away from family at a young age. - Said family wants to get him married against his will. - The marriage is solely for political means. - Would rather marry orange-haired girl. (JK maybe, maybe not..I’m hoping he does lol!) - Is the 'third’ son in his family, and part of minter-trio. - Has fire powers. (Diable Jambe) - Lead by a member of the Monkey D. family. (Luffy). - Went back to family just for the sake of protecting nakama! (Nami, Chopper and Brook) Sabo: - Mostly seen wearing formal clothing, i.e. dress shirts, coats, gloves, hat etc. - No official colour, but is always seen wearing blue. - Blond. - Scar covering one eye. - Likes to hang around with an orange-haired girl. - Comes from a 'Noble’ family. - Ran away from family at a young age. - Said Family wanted to get him married against his will. - The marriage was solely for political means. - Would will rather marry orange-haired girl. (JK again, but we all know its gonna happen! @Divvens ) - Is part of the ASL 'trio’. - Has fire powers. (Mera Mera no mi) - Lead by a member of the Monkey D family. (Dragon) - Went back to family just for the sake of protecting nakama! (Ace and Luffy) “

While this doesn't DIRECTLY deal with the family itself, but rather the status- I felt that with the release of Manga Chapter 837, this was an interesting comparison to add to the post. xD Thanks for the incentive to tack on more information Chap. 837! (The reason why this was added to the thread is self-explanatory from the dialogue and reaction from Luffy respectively)
“
onepiece . wikia . com/wiki/Sabo
Sabo is similar to Sanji as…
Both were born into royal families and hated their royal status.
Both escaped their life of royalty and ended up having a preferred life (A revolutionary for Sabo, a cook for the Baratie and the Straw Hat Pirates for Sanji).
Both their fathers saw them as disappointments.
Both were forced to marry a woman of their parents choosing.
Both hated their siblings.
Both returned back to their royal status to prevent their loved ones from getting killed and were threatened by their fathers if they did not cooperate (Luffy and Ace for Sabo, Zeff for Sanji).
Both had something destroyed by their fathers when they were young (The drawing Sabo had made for his father, the food Sanji prepared for a mouse).
Both had pirates involved in their return to their royal status (The Bluejam Pirates for Sabo, the Big Mom Pirates for Sanji).
Both were locked up by their fathers for showing disgrace.
”
and there is a comparison between judge and bluejam
both of them were promised something by a powerful ruler bluejam a king promising becoming noble judge promising an alliance with a yonko and for the yonko is a queen but turns out the ruler they had their hopes in were pulling one over on them and never planned on keeping their word/planning to kill them and take what they want/ let them die doing his dirty work ( bluejam)
except this time the king was betrayed by the pirate
edit : as @genomynt said in their reblog to my post genomynt . tumblr . com/post/177504958587/sanjis-similaritys-to-sabo
Plus, their straight ships with Nami and Koala had contrasting parallels to each other:
While Nami was forced to join Arlong’s crew against her will, Koala only traveled with the Sun Pirates because they were asked to take her.
While both were forced to wear their crew’s mark, Koala’s “mark of the sun” was put on to replace another mark. Nami’s Arlong tattoo was removed and replaced with a tattoo of her own design.
When Koala joined the Sun Pirates, she was finally allowed to cry, whereas with Nami, after she was forced to join Arlong she refused to cry.
Koala was never forced to do any work as she was freed from slavery. Nami was forced to draw maps and act as a slave to Arlong.
Koala’s time in the crew was only meant to be temporary while Arlong intended to keep Nami in the crew forever.
In Koala’s case, her hometown exchanged her freedom with the Marines for the lives of the fishmen. In the case of Nami’s hometown, they fought against the fishmen for their freedom after the Marines betrayed them.
Each girl ended up with a permanent mark replacing a former mark of enslavement as a result of affiliation with fishmen.
Source: onepiece . wikia . com/wiki/Koala
Nami vs Koala! Nami - Has orange hair. - Has a past involving fishmen. - Fishmen were mean to her. - Was enslaved (kind of) by fishmen. - Has a tattoo covering up her mark of slavery. - The mark was the Jolly Roger of Fishmen. - Calls aforementioned nakama: “Sanji-kun”. - Disciplines Sanji with her fist. Koala - Has orange hair. - Has a past involving fishmen. - Fishmen were kind to her. - Was freed from slavery by fishmen. - Has a tattoo covering up her mark of slavery. - The cover up was a Jolly Roger of fishmen. - Calls aforementioned colleague: “Sabo-kun” - Disciplines Sabo by pinching his face. (kinda similar, maybe she also punches him..!)

I think pudding will die
sabo lost his memories at the end of his flashback and sanji was arranged to marry pudding with the memory DF allowing her to take peoples memories and she took his memory of her kissing him away which makes me think that sanji will regain his memory of her kissing him just like how sabo regained his memories ( which may suggest puddings death given that it was ace’s death that caused sabo to regain his memories and if pudding dies her devil fruit ability and the changes she made to peoples memories will go away)
and I believe it will be due to the blackbeard pirates for they are on a df hunt and the memory fruit is useful for gathering info like say if they used the fruit on robin to look into her memories about the poneglyphs so they can know where raftel is etc
what if green bull is the one to kill pudding due to her being of the three eyed race
or (given recent events its possible that this alludes to sanji getting the memmory back like maybe pudding was knocked out when she was kidnapped and this led to sanji getting the memory of the kiss back after the fight with queen

could i request sfw & nsfw headcanons for nami & zoro ( separately ) with a nonbinary s/o? :3
hi anon, thank you for your request! i tried my best to think of spicy scenarios for this but couldn't come up with much for zoro and any for nami,, i hope you enjoy the sfw headcanons and her drabble regardless tho!! ;w;
headcanons with a nonbinary s/o (Zoro and Nami)
gn reader, trans zoro, some sanami nakamaship word count: 1k
Zoro
Gender? Hardly knows 'er
All jokes aside, Zoro's reaction is relatively lukewarm when you work up the courage to tell him that you've got no biney, absolutely zero beanies, even
As far as he's concerned, you're still the same person he fell in love with and if this is something that makes you happy - so be it, even if he hasn't quite wrapped his head around it yet
Zoro doesn't need an in-depth understanding of gender theory and a degree in social psychology know that sometimes people evolve with the seasons, undergoing their own metamorphoses
Potential changes like names and pronouns, if you want to change them at all, are entirely cosmetic and an easy fix in exchange for your comfort
And as a trans man himself, he'll make sure everyone abides by those wishes, whether they 'respect' it or not
Once the two of you step over the hurdle of your boyfriend's remarkably underwhelming (but relieving) response, things slip back to a comfortable norm with relative ease - there's no 'coming out' to the crew, your nakama simply see how Zoro refers to you an adapt accordingly without fuss or fanfare
Zoro still runs you through the wringer during training sessions, you still worry about him and Sanji going too far on the ship when they spar (for Franky's sake if anything), and the both of you still collapse in an exhausted heap side by side after vigorous sets of whatever testosterone-fueled nonsense your boyfriend decides to call his monstrous regimen
Where intimacy is concerned, he’s patient and attentive, wholly willing to wait until you’ve figured everything out (or at least enough to be comfortable) before the two of you go back to your regular advances, if you were engaging in that with him before at all
He says your name, whatever you choose it to be, like a prayer, offering himself to the highest power in your presence, wanting nothing more than your pleasure and happiness - he’s a lot gentler than usual, you feel as though this is the first time you’ve seen him in this light
Zoro isn’t much for words during sex, but by god he’ll let you know that he’s feeling good, that you’re doing that to him, and he’s truly devoted to you with the noises he makes; if you try to cover his mouth up in case someone hears, all he’ll do is lick your hand and level you with a breathtaking dark smirk
Nami
Despite her cool demeanor, she's freaking out a little
Nami wants to be a supportive girlfriend to you, of course, but also has no idea where to start on things like these and reading can only get her so far
So she swallows her pride and turns to her nakama for help - as well meaning as they are, Luffy and Zoro are about as helpful as a needle in a haystack; their straightforward, “well, that’s just how it is now, isn’t it?” approach might make sense to some but Nami needs more to chew on than that
Robin and Franky have experience, but their explanations aren’t much less obtuse than the boys’, Nami doesn’t really want to know about bone or fish anatomy to ask Brook or Jinbei and the idea of talking about her love life to Chopper, despite being the ship’s doctor, leaves her a little queasy
That only leaves her with Usopp left to ask for advice, but surprisingly Sanji’s the one who steps up in this ‘predicament’ He doesn’t sing her high praises when he brings Nami her teatime snack under the mikan trees, Nami almost flusters at being caught staring at you from afar, watching you and the boys laugh over Zoro’s loosing hand some card game - completely unaware of the way she smiles at your profile. Sanji takes a seat at the table and asks Nami if there’s been anything troubling on her mind lately; before she can dodge the question, he begins talking about his time on Momoiro Island and, although difficult for him to take in at first, the things he ended up learning once he pulled that toxic masculine stick out of his ass. About people, about culture, about gender performance and presentation. The wince Nami tries to hide doesn’t escape his perception. Still, he lights another cigarette and faces away to blow smoke in the opposite direction of her food. Come to think of it, Sanji was the first to stop his gendered, ‘mellorine’ praises and twirling the moment you’d came out too. “I know it’s a bit confusing now, but it’ll get easier as you go along. They’re happier now, too, that’s what’s important, isn’t it?” Nami casts a longing glance to you on the deck, shoving Usopp with claims of ‘cheating’ as your bright smile pierces an arrow directly through her heart, not a care in the world aside from the games in front of you. Nami adores the love for the world you still possess, the ability to see a path through the darkness and, more importantly, the light in other people. She loves that about you, it’s what pulled her to you. She loves you. No difference in identity will change that now, she realizes. Nami gets up with a quiet, ‘thanks, Sanji-kun’ and makes her way over to you, snack in hand. It’s a little pudding cup, that she feeds a spoonful of to you once seated at your side. You giggle and ask her what’s the occasion, Nami says there is none but now you owe her for that little bite. You gasp, whining into her shoulder that it isn’t fair because she offered it to you in the first place. She pretends to be thoughtful for a second, but then says she could possibly let you off the hook this one time if you paid her back in kisses - including interest too, of course. The boys around you all start groaning about ‘mushiness’ during their totally very serious poker came, that Zoro absolutely didn’t have to stop Luffy from eating the chips for. Nami simply states that she’ll tax these complaints out of their allowance before they die down to muttered grumbles, your laugh ringing through the loudest over the Sunny as you snuggle comfortably against your cunning, beloved, cat burglar.

SaNami theory: The power of love
SPOILERS UP UNTIL CHAPTER 1030.
After recent chapters with Sanji awakening his powers and his reactions to it I am very curious to see how Oda is going to solve this. He is going to need to address it in some way and give a good resolution for Sanji’s current inner turmoil. My idea is that if Sanji figures out that his powers come from his emotions, and he realizes that he is nothing at all like his brothers, he might accept his powers and be willing to use them moving forward despite his hate for Germa. I think Nami could be used as the trigger for Sanji to understand his powers and then also feel comfortable with who he is even with the powers.
I have little faith in this theory actually happening, mostly because it's too shippy for Oda. But I couldn't get it out of my head and felt it worked fairly well, so I ended up writing it down.
What we know at this point is that Sanji is awakening his Germa powers and that he doesn't want them. This means that Oda will likely have to deal with it in some way so that Sanji accepts them. It also needs to work with what we saw happen in WCI and be done in a way that feels like it makes sense for Sanji’s character.
Sanji doesn’t want to use the Germa powers, but he already has, so he seems open to change his mind if the reasons are good enough. Of course it’s very different if his whole body changes, and I totally understand Sanji’s worrry and fear of turning into something like his brothers.
He doesn’t want to “be a moster like them”, which means he might need to see the difference between himself and his brothers and come to understand his powers as something good. (Unless Oda actually goes down the route of Sanji losing his emotions, but that would mean a whole lot more drama and inner conflict for Oda to solve.)
The thing is that here Sanji says that he doesn’t want to lose his emotions, and that is likely his biggest fear. So, if instead he doesn’t lose his emotions, but understand that his emotions is what awakened his powers it could make him accept them. Oda writes out “I need to figure out what caused this” so it’s likely Oda has a specific reason for why it happened, and will show Sanji figure it out.
At the moment it seems Usopp and Nami got separated, and also that Sanji is moving away from his initial fighting spot, this makes it possible for them to cross paths during Sanji’s fight with Queen and while he tries to understand his current powers.
But now I want to go into a bit more small things that make me think this could work and that Oda might have foreshadowed it.
To start off, I think that if there is one person Sanji could consider becoming a “monster” for to begin with it’s Nami and he’s said as much before.
The first time Sanji meets Nami he says that he is willing to become a devil for her. Later in Skypiea he repeats a similar sentiment about becoming the devil of the blue sea if Enel hurts Nami.
Then again we have Sanji in Thriller Bark catching on fire when he learns about Nami being kidnapped and that Absalom wants to marry her. We've in other words seen Sanji being prepared to go very far for Nami's sake and him already seemingly getting powered up by his feelings.
We also know that Sanji’s feelings have made him stronger before in other examples, perhaps most notably with his attack “Hell’s memories” which is literally fueled by anger.
But also the fact that his fire powers are described to be because his “passion burns hotter than flames”.
Basically, Sanji’s fire power at least seems to stem from his emotions. If his new awakening is also because of emotions I think that would work in line with Sanji’s character and be something he can accept rather than if it’s the opposite, that his Germa powers will remove his feelings (which is of course another possibility). Still, at least to some extent Sanji already seems to gain power from his emotions.
You have other small examples of this, for example the cigarette burning more when Sanji is speaking to Capone about his family, or even something as silly as Sanji getting a speed boost after touching Nami’s breast in Punk Hazard.
“What kind of source of power do you call that?” It’s possible these small moments with Nami have been foreshadowing for something that’s about to come.
Now looking at what seems to have triggered the awakening of Sanji’s powers he specifically says he has felt strange since the second time he wore the Raid suit.
If I am not mistaken he wore it the second time when he saw Nami naked in the bath (the first being when he fought Page 1 and third being when he saved Momo), and it’s possible his strong reaction might have triggered his powers in some way. I just wonder why it would be so specific as Sanji feeling off after the second time in particular.
It might sound silly, but it wouldn’t be too odd for Oda to make Sanji’s pervertedness/love into a source of power. The thing I think speaks the most against this is why the Raidsuit would react to feelings when Judge clearly never meant for his children to have feelings at all. Still, it’s possible Sanji’s feelings have always been the thing to power him, and now with the raidsuit on these Germa powers get more easily dragged out of him so to speak.
Looking at the current situation it’s possible that if Sanji realizes that 1. the second time he wore the suit he saw Nami naked, and 2. he gets a second moment with Nami now that somehow makes him feel different he could connect the two and figure out it was Nami and his emotions that triggered it when he wore the raid suit in the bathhouse.
I also think that out of anyone Nami might be one of few Sanji is willing to change for. Again, he has basically already expressed it a few times, how far he is willing to go for her. So if he gets put in a situation where Nami needs him to use his powers, he might put her above anything. It’s also possible that Nami could be used as a way for Sanji to understand the source of his powers, if it’s true that feelings are triggering them.
Nami was there in WCI and has even mentioned Sanji being different from his brothers. If Sanji realizes that feelings is in fact what makes him stronger and has triggered the latent powers it will still work with Sora's wish and show how Sanji is both different and in a way better than his siblings specifically because of his love.
If Nami can help Sanji realize that it’s not what he has in common with his brothers, but what makes them different is what’s important, then he might be able to overcome his problem with changing. We know he already is changing and it’s likely going to be permanent, so in the end Oda will have to solve this in some way for Sanji to move forward. If we are lucky Oda might use Nami in regards to Sanji finally accepting himself as he is and help him change his perspective.
It also matches with Sanji's theme of "Love is a hurricane" and cheesy as it might be the "power of love" being a source of strength for Sanji. Which we have seen expressed before by Sanji’s zombie in Thriller Bark as he jumped in to save Nami.
In the end I just felt it could all match up rather neatly.
Sanji can come to understand that his powers come from his feelings. Not that he will lose them and become like his brothers.
Considering the timing it’s possible that what triggered the awakening was when he saw Nami naked while wearing the raid suit.
Sanji can start to accept that his kindness and emotions is what matters and makes him very different from his family, just like Sora already expressed.
Sanji’s powerup will be related to his love and want to protect.
Nami is one person that knows about Sanji’s family and has seen the difference between him and them.
Nami is someone Sanji has been willing to become a devil for before and it could have been foreshadowing from Oda.
So that’s it. The power of love (or perhaps lust?) could be a trigger for Sanji’s powers and Nami might be part in how Sanji realizes this and also accepts the powers as a part of himself.
Thank you for reading, and let me know what you think. Any possibility at all of this happening or am I just dreaming up shippy scenarios?

Thank you also for your reply, mate and sorry for delay~!
First of all you have very wise words here, shipping should be fun and not the matter of life and death. Sadly overly aggressive shipping is not a problem only in Tumblr but basically everywhere where is a place to chat about things.
Better not lable anyone but unfortunately I’m quite sure there exists that kinda fans that waste their time just to browse videos/blogs/forums and spam the comment section just to diss some characters (and their fans) they don’t like.
Personally I don’t see the point on scrolling the YT or Tumblr and pop out to your “rival’s” site or especially the ask box just to drop out some mean comments but it seems like some people do. Just makes me wonder what they try to say via this behavior?
That bullying over fictional characters is cool and dissing someone makes one better? Spreading anti-shipping hate will make one’s ship better than another? Honestly, there are bigger problems in the real world that needs to be solved so why then spoiling the fun out of the things that makes others happy?
thing I tend to say is none of us fans can impact on Oda-sensei and the author will make the final decision about the storyline and everything we fans can do is wait patiently. Another fact is that the ending will never satisfy the whole fandom.
It has happened before with many other series and it will happen with One Piece too. Its the law of the making the series’ and I think Oda is aware of it too. Despite that all, we fans should stay respectful and at least not bombard Oda or the other fans with hatred.
Agh, sorry to vent out but it’s just frustrating to see that there are lots of people who have so much potential to create amazing fan made stuff such as art, theories etc. but some get discouraged because of these mean fans who spread a tons of toxicity in the air :/
Anyway I hope you and our other fellow Sanami-fans have the strength to keep up the flag high and stay awesome <3
