Ahsoka First Half Postmortem

Spoilers for Ahsoka episodes 1-4 and Rebels Season 2 below.

Shin vs Sabine Round 2: Going into this fight I was a little nervous that we would be saying goodbye to Shin but thankfully that was not the case. Female dark side force users (with the exception of maybe Reva) have had rather unfulfilling conclusions to their arcs in canon so far in my opinion anyway.

Ahsoka vs Marrok Round 2: These poor Inquisitors never seem to learn that spin to win is a death sentence 😔. It is interesting to think about the fact Marrok was either enhanced by Nightsister Magick or had fell in battle before and was resurrected with it.

Baylan Skoll's Arc: I went into Ahsoka thinking that Baylan was going to be the canon equivalent of Jerec (Same with Shin being our Sariss equivalent) from the Original EU. However, I dare say what we are getting is even better then that and I do find my self invested in what will happen to him in these next four episodes.

Ahsoka's Arc: A fair bit of Ahsoka's arc so far I feel has been seeding the idea that the revelation that Vader is Anakin still weighs heavily on Ahsoka and may even be influencing her actions to a certain extent. So, having a talk with Anakin could very well be therapeutic for her in the long run.

The Fate of Clan Wren: This was the one thing about episode four I'm the most torn on. So, on one hand I'm pretty distraught that we know from Baylan prying through Sabine's mind that her folks died in the Purge. On the other it makes sense that it would take a bit more then the promise of finding Ezra to sway Sabine into forging an uneasy alliance with Baylan.

Hera and the New Republic: So, I think it's pretty safe to assume that the NR is going to be majorly peeved that Hera went on a unsanctioned assignment as well as lost sixty percent of the X-Wings she brought with her.

With everything Sabine went through as a teenager, it's no surprise that she grew up to be a hot mess - she's still a good and kind person, but she was never going to be your super organised friend who holds a respectable 9-5 office job. I am very, very glad they had Huyang spell out that she is the absolute worst at force-sensitivity, because it would make zero sense otherwise. We know she learnt to use a lightsaber and I bet Kanan would be proud, although he’d have told her to maybe wear her armour when going off to fight weird force-wielders.

But I love that Ahsoka is not showing us perfect characters who can do no wrong, I loved the mistakes and flaws shown in the first two episodes, no one wants perfect. I’m in it for the Hot Mess!   (Hera still being space-mom is everything I’ve ever wanted though.)

One thing I really do love about Sabine in Ahsoka is that she’s a genius, she can figure out a complicated star-map in record time, she’s a brilliant art analyst, she can combine these two things beautifully, she’s a badass who can skip out on a ceremony she promised to go to and the New Republic soldiers just salute her for her crazy stunts to get away from them, she can fight off droid assassins and have hot, sexy fights with mysterious darksider apprentices, she’s the expert they go to when they need to cut open a droid’s head, but she’s also a total failgirl, she’s living in a shack, she’s a hot mess who snaps at everyone because she’s upset, she says she understands the severity of the map she’s being given, but then steals it and loses it within twenty four hours, she doesn’t have backups that aren’t immediately smashed in two seconds, she’s the absolute worst at Force-sensitivity that Huyang has ever seen, just absolute dogshit as a Force-user, she gets immediately stabbed when fighting against an actual Force-user, she nearly gets all their heads blown off because she won’t back down when powering up a droid that’s about to explode and Huyang has to save them all.  She is brilliant and she’s a disaster, she’s a hot mess all the way around and she’s the person who knows her shit the most, she makes a mess but she figures shit out, she’s an asshole but she’s also a woobie, like Sabine Wren is Character Of All Time’ing it up all over the place here.

Kamino is gone. The Bad Batch left Crosshair on that landing platform and tried to not look back. 

Focusing on the future, Hunter decided to get as far away from the water planet as possible. This only leads to Tech taking the direction too literally, and the Marauder finds itself out of commission on Lothal. While on the planet’s surface, Omega runs into a familiar face, someone who very obviously did not want to be found. If the Batch was intent on starting their new lives as dead in the eyes of the Empire, staying around this familiar face was going to cause more problems than it solved. 

Omega wouldn't stand for leaving her behind. Even if it meant Hunter leaving Omega behind.
