Oikawa's problematic phone case
Without any doubt, Iwaizumi is the only person in the world who is able to look so fucking hot in his ID picture without even trying. His golden skin, his hair in that natural state of spiky, his forehead relaxed without any wrinkles, that piercing in his eyebrow that he got in his first year at Irvine and that Tooru still shivers over, his eyes staring at the camera with an intensity in their greenish hue that takes breath away, his lips curved in a small lopsided smile, a shadow of dimple on his cheek, his jaw well marked by the lights, his chin slightly elevated.
Hajime sent it during one of his video calls while telling him about his day; the soda Oikawa was drinking at that moment shot out of his nose when he choked while opening the picture. Early in the morning, he stood in the nearest copy shop to his house to request eight copies, still blushing, heart racing, and ears still ringing from Iwaizumi's deep-playful-stupid-hot laugh and his Do I look so hot that it makes the great Oikawa-senshu this nervous?
One of those copies ended up in his grey silicone case (which actually matched Iwaizumi's, his with a chubby dinosaur drawing in the bottom corner asking What are u doing?; Oikawa's, with another smiling dinosaur hugging the rest of Iwasaurus missing tail, answering Miss you, hug me!), accompanying him everywhere for months along with a small family photo with his parents, sister and Takeru.
However, one night, during an interview on a popular and prestigious TV show, Oikawa completely forgot that he changed his usual cover for a transparent one and took out his mobile phone in the middle of the interview to show the presenter a really embarrassing video of Matias, his friend and San Juan's starting blocker.
And, of course, Tooru's loud and intense fandom erupted the minute they noticed (thanks to damn high-definition cameras that might as well show gaping pores in close-up as reveal a years-long relationship with a really hot athletic trainer) Hajime's photograph on his IPhone case.
Social media was abuzz with dozens of screenshots from different angles, threads about conspiracy theories (Hanamaki's favourite was that Oikawa had the wrong phone and used the phone of a technical member of the programme; Matsukawa's that Hajime was Tooru's older brother), civil wars between fans over who was more right until only a day later it was revealed (thanks to one Suna Rintaro) that the strange boy was Iwaizumi Hajime, the hot athletic trainer of Birtwistle University and the Japan Men's National Volleyball Team.
And there was no shortage of hashtags like #IwaizumiHajime27AthleticTrainer, #LGBTooru, #BiRighToorus, #IwaOi that became worldwide TT and the grotesque rise of followers on Hajime's official account and also Oikawa's own.
"You had to use a fucking transparent case" Hajime speaks when it's finally his turn to come to Argentina. He's sitting on the bed with Tooru propped up next to him, blinking at the memes that continue to pop up on his TL even though it's been a month of what Oikawa's fans have already dubbed IwaOi National Day. "You have a drawer full, full, of ridiculous phone cases and you pick the one that's transparent."
"I already said it was unintentional, Iwa-chan! Unintentional!" Oikawa protests, crossing his arms as he makes a pout that Hajime finds truly endearing. "I'd better have kept the picture that auntie took of you when you were nine years old and got stuck in the cat flap," he mutters, but Iwaizumi hears him clearly and Tooru squeals as a pillow hits his face, nearly knocking him off the bed.
...
the cute phone case inspired this drabble

Can you do Bokuto, Tendou Suna, Iwaizumi? So that they see their girlfriend again after she was away for a long time? I love You Work!!💕💕💕💕💕
how some of the HQ boys would react to seeing their girlfriend again after a long time from a business trip. (bokuto, tendō, suna, iwaizumi.)
content: (🦷) tooth-rotting fluff, them being very sulky generally, you guys are married here, suna's is inspired by a scene in the k-drama "true beauty", kita cameo in iwaizumi's, and yes, atsumu says an among us reference.
⚠ warning/s: manga spoilers.
note: THIS REQ WAS SO CUTE WHATATAT@?(# i haven't written for tendō, BUT i love a good challenge. >:3 iwaizumi's ended up being a bit long on accident. 😭 THANK YOU ANON AND ENJOY READING!!!
BOKUTO KŌTARŌ
when you told him you'd be gone for three WHOLE months, his hair just drooped down, the gleam in his eyes are no longer there, and his childish grin is gone.
baby literally gets so sulky about it :(((
"do you really have to?"
HE HAS THE PUPPY DOG EYES AND EVERYTHING STOPPTKEPDK 😭😭😭😭
"believe me, kō. as much as i don't want to stay away for that long, i have to."
every day he wakes up (with his arms around a pillow instead of you), he tries to be optimistic
"another day closer to seeing my wife!"
can't have him messing up at practice yk
but when he finally sees you at the airport, gosh, he's just all smiley about it
he picks you up and spins you around like in the movies
"i missed you so, so, so much!" he's pecking your face all over, ignoring the looks from other people, because hIS WIFE IS BACK 😭😭😭😭
"kō.. people are staring." you giggled
"let them!"
SATORI TENDŌ
"no way—! you gotta be joking!"
HE IS IN UTTER DISBELIEF.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE GOING TO BE GONE FOR THREE MONTHS???
"who's gonna be my taste tester then!?" his voice cracks
the tendō chocolatier business CANNOT FUNCTION WITHOUT IT'S OFFICIAL TASTE TESTER.
before you leave, he gives you a free box of handmade chocolates galore to snack on the plane
and, ofc, a little kiss on the cheek
when you open the box on the plane, there's a little note
"don't eat'em all on one go! love yaaa~ :3" HOW CUTEJKSJDKEJDK
when you're finally back from the trip, you stumble into tendō's arms
"oof—!" he says before patting your head, "there, there, y/n."
SUNA RINTARŌ
"what." he deadpans
"i know.. but i have to—"
"no way. i don't accept this. you're seriously leaving me?" he sounds so offended that people may think you two are fighting.
he pretends to be all mad about it, but you know he's just joking around
so when you're gone, suna has to physically hOLD HIMSELF BACK FROM CALLING YOU EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY
"she wouldn't want a clingy boyfr— husband." he corrects himself
yeah, he calls you anyway.
when you pick up, you say, "hello, my tarō! how are you?" in that sICKENINGLY KIND TONE SUNA HAS OH, SO MISSED 😭😭
you've only been gone for three days
"please come home. i miss you. please." did he just say please twice?
when you're finally home, it takes every inch of sanity left in suna so as not to drag you away for cuddles
the expression on his face tells you everything, and you giggle. "i'll just shower first, then we can cuddle." and his face LIGHTS UP
IWAIZUMI HAJIME
"even oikawa's said some terrible jokes, but this one is by far the worst."
"nope! it's not a joke, baby."
when you're gone, iwaizumi is so upset because you'd usually give him a little kiss goodbye whenever he goes off to work :((
so now he's extra grumpy while coaching the national jpn team.
"oi, hinata! you should've been able to get that one!"
"if you can't hit it right, another hundred laps for you, ushiwaka!"
"suna, stop slacking off, or i'll have that old captain of yours come back and scold you!"
suna knows iwaizumi's threat was only towards him, but that statement got even ATSUMU AND ARAN SHIVERING.
SO THE TEAM IS ALL LIKE "???" BECAUSE WHO PUSHED IWAIZUMI'S BUTTONS SO EARLY IN THE MORNING 😭
"which one of you is it. come on, fess up!" hoshiumi hisses
"i believe bokuto lost iwaizumi's pen the other day." ushijima states
"wow, are we just throwing each other under the bus now?" suna snickers
"it was an accident! i didn't know he'd get this mad about it!" bokuto tried to defend himself, "come on, tell them, atsumu!"
"i was in cafeteria with grey." atsumu lifts both hands up, metaphorically waving the white flag
"you all are insufferable." sakusa groans
you can imagine how confused the team got when after three months, iwaizumi's mood was no longer grouchy since you had finally come home

“Giant Bees!” || Lee Know
Ft. Lee Know + florist!Felix cameo (not ship) AU: giant beekeeper Word Count: 698 A/N: Indirectly requested by my bestie jaesea on May 28th of 2020 LMAO it literally took me 3 years smh (also @/hagun-suna I started writing a baker!minho for you YEARS ago and I decided to combine it with this one! idk if you’ll even see this HAHA I doubt you’ll read it but just wanted to say I thought of you!)
if you’d like to reblog just my fanart you can see it on my art blog ^^
If you know my fics, you’ll know that each AU comes with a twist…this one is giant bees
That’s not a figure of speech lmao the twist is that there are giant bees
Like I need you to understand that Minho takes care of LITERAL GINORMOUS BEES
It’s a bit of a challenge considering the bees are larger than his head
Averaging 1 foot (~0.3 metres) long, Apis magna is the world’s largest species of bee!
(For context, a normal honeybee is 0.5 in or 1.2 cm long, which is 0.04 ft or 0.012 m)
Entomologists would be hesitant to even call it a bee anymore if it wasn’t for the blatant bee-haviour ahahahahah get it bee behaviour and appearance of a bee
(The drawing I made for the header is just a cuter depiction lol
I imagine they’d look more realistic, but you can also imagine lil blobs for this fic)
Minho took up beekeeping after discovering that the giant bees visiting his garden acted like his cats
His cats were actually scared of them at first LMAO but these giant bees don’t sting because they have lost their usual natural predators
In fact, they don’t seem to have any natural predators and don’t reproduce as often as normal bees, so they’re rare to find
Kind of more like something out of a fairy tale than an actual insect
But, somehow, Minho finds one such giant bee in his garden one morning feeding on the few colourful flowers he has planted there
He’s spooked at first, but his cats start playfully swatting at the bee and the bee seems to be having fun with them
So Minho brings out a jar of honey from his kitchen to feed the big bee
The bee drinks some of the honey and then flies off on its way
The next day, he wakes up finding 3 in his backyard
It understandably FREAKS HIM TF OUT and he doesn’t really know what to do??? Who does he even call???? Pest control seems a bit much?????
His cats seem to be playing with them again, though, so maybe this isn’t a huge problem (figuratively, of course)
So he calls his friend Felix who happens to be a florist
Minho: “FELIX I found a giant bee in my backyard yesterday AND THEY MULTIPLIED WHAT DO I DO??”
Felix: “Woah woah okay calm down, I’ll come over with some sunflowers”
Felix stops by and helps Minho plant some sunflowers in his backyard
Apis Magna love sunflowers because there are certain species of flowers that evolved to also be larger, which makes it easier for the bees to drink nectar from and pollinate
The obvious solution in Minho’s eyes is that Felix takes the bees, but beekeeping with giant bees isn’t like normal beekeeping
You can’t really choose where to keep the bees, they just fly out on their route to where they want
And if they trust you, they’ll let you harvest honey from their hive!
So, essentially, Minho got chosen to be their beekeeper LOL
He gave them honey one (1) time and they sort of imprinted on him
Bees were rlly like “we like this one can we keep him?”
(haha they beekeep but like the other way around,,,)
So Felix advises Minho to try and follow the bees
Once they trust him enough, they’ll lead him to their hive
Minho isn’t really focused on getting honey, but one day, all 3 of his cats run off
And so he follows them out…
…and finds the beehive!
A few bees seem to greet him, which he recognizes as the original bees in his garden!
They’re sort of fuzzy, so he gets an itch when they start to rub against his face
Anyway, he’s just there to collect his cats…but now that he knows where the hive is, might as well collect some!
So he collects some delicious honey (and his cats), pets some bees, and then heads home
From then on the bees visit Minho’s garden and he asks Felix for more flowers in exchange for their honey!
And they lived habeely ever after the end :D

more Wave Man! dude vanished halfway through the season/series and only reappeared for the finale
ICE MAN MY BOY I want to see him get better. I want to see how he changes with time and gets the help he needs and NOT just through external control
Suna Zero (I know we got it in the comics but like. more hints that she was trying to get better at melee fighting and making her own actual armor and stuff)
Roll being more than a poster cameo, please it would've been so much fun
genuinely I wish Bert and Ashley were shown working together and piecing together the truth about aki and mega man. maybe even figuring it out and having to deal with their friend hiding something like that (and dealing with having a crush on him in some way)
Guts Man deserved better
Fully Charged Episodes/Things I WISH We Got
(prepare for incoming YAPPING at mach 2!!)
B-Team. I want to see Bert and Ashley working together! I think that their personalities would bounce off each other really well and make some hilarious dialogue. I specifically want to see them forced to be the heroes when Aki and Suna are unavailable.
Chaotique interacting with more characters. Her sense of humor could gel really well with Ashley, Suna, or a lot of the Robot Masters. I think an episode with her and Fireman could be really interesting.
Sick Day Episode. Yeah, yeah, I've always got whump on my mind, laugh it up. But, really, this could be fun! Every American cartoon needs a sick day episode (and yes I know that most of the voice actors are Canadian).
A bigger exploration of at least one of Aki's love interests. The romance felt so forced - just kinda shoe-horned in there - but with an episode or two devoted to fleshing it out, it could really work out! Bonus points if they make it canon that Bert has a crush on Mega Man (he basically does but it would be fun to have).
More Miniblast. I did NOT see the romance between these two coming, but I do like it! I would love to see them go on a date, it would be so much fun to watch.
FIREMAN. WHERE DID HE GO??? I NEED ANSWERS!!!
Daini Redemption Arc. Yeah, it's the obvious one, but I'm not wrong!
If you have anything to add PLEASE reblog this and tell me, I'd love to see some of your concepts!

atsumu usually never gets calls from you.
it's something he's asked you about before, something he's teased you about too, but when it all came down to it, your explanation was simple - what's the point in calling when everything you need to say can be texted?
of course, he called you silly for thinking that, and you explain to him - in excruciating detail - about the time you had to call your econ teacher to ask about the syllabus and it was just about two minutes of "hey, how are you? i'm so sorry to call like this." and thirty seconds of actually getting an actual answer.
point is: you don't call people. not if you can help it.
so when atsumu's phone rings, not once, not twice, but three actual consecutive times - he had to make sure you didn't misdial him - and it had your name on the screen.
he knew something was up.
"they messed up the batch." and it's your voice immediately coming to him a second after he answers the call.
you sound stressed, and it's only half past noon, so atsumu takes a step away from his team, thanking whomever he can that you called exactly on his lunch break.
he speaks into the phone, "hey, what's wrong? what's going on?"
"the dry cleaners." you tell him, and there's a hint of a groan seeping into your tone, "they messed up our batch and now my glove is missing."
the glove.
it's a stupid thing to be stressing about especially in thirty degree weather, but atsumu knows just how much that thing means to you.
it's the pair of gloves you wore when you took the uni entrance exam, it's what you wore when you and atsumu signed the lease to the small apartment you guys are living in now.
and most importantly, when atsumu first proposed to you - he didn't really have a ring to give - so in honor of putting something on your hand, he took one of your gloves and slipped it on you like it was a ring.
you already lost one of the two a few months back, so now that you might not see the other one too? atsumu understands why you're upset.
he chews on his inner cheek, "okay - where are you?"
and you reply, sighing deeply, "i'm at the library."
you're not one to believe in superstitions, but with the test you have coming up in two hours, you really wish you had your lucky glove right now.
"i'll come get you," atsumu says, his hands already picking up his bag and throwing it over his shoulder.
he's got about an hour until his break is up and your university isn't even ten minutes away, so he's got more than enough time to play hooky with you right now.
you tell him, "no - it's okay - you don't have to."
and atsumu, already ready to go, tells you, with a stupid grin on his face, "yeah, but i have someone here who'd love to see you too."
you called atsumu at 12:02 PM, and not even ten minutes later, he's here - walking into a library full of stressed out college students, still in his jersey, and looking to meet you.
you look up at him the second you hear the doors open, and you're usually very happy to see him - especially when he's in his jersey, hair a bit slicked back, sports bag strapped on his shoulder - but this time, it's not really that that gets you jumping out of your seat.
"hey, look who i found." atsumu gives you a smile, pointing with his thumb to the person next to him.
and you beam - "oh my god, rin!"
and suna gives you a smile that's just as excited as yours, his eyes slightly crinkling as you stand from your seat to let him envelop you in one of his embraces.
you pull back, "what're you doing here?"
"we had playoffs with their team today," atsumu answers, his grin awfully proud, "i would've told you when i got home, but."
and you shake your head understandingly, "i feel like i ruined a surprise."
"nah." suna shakes his head, "you saved me from atsumu dragging me to your house for dinner tonight."
your shoulders rise, and you fake a scoff, "he was gonna take you out on a date? behind my back?"
and suna nods, his smile teasing, "at your house too. can you believe this guy?"
“right,” atsumu rolls his eyes, and he looks at you, “cause i’m definitely cheating on you and i thought that the best date spot for me and him is at our home, which we share, where you will also be at.”
so you scoff, "i never said you were smart."
and suna nods, "you know he never really was."
your shoulders rise as you laugh at that, and suna raises his hand for you to high five, the same humorous glint in his eyes from high school still showing as he laughs with you.
"it's just like high school all over again." atsumu shakes his head at the two of you, and for the first time since they've got there, he takes the seat across from where you used to sit.
suna doesn't sit down, instead he puts a hand on his hip as he grins, "i have a lot of stuff on you from high school, you know."
"rin," atsumu groans, and he glares, "if you don't shut the hell up."
"he had such a big crush on you." suna tells you anyways, his cool demeanor not once faltering, "he'd make us take the long way to school so we'd 'accidentally' bump into you on the way."
(and atsumu's glare crumbles. the pink from his ears cascading to the rest of his face.)
"oh my god, you had a crush on me?" you look at atsumu, your eyes crinkling as you tease, "that is so embarrassing."
and atsumu, rolling his eyes, deadpans, "we are literally married."
to which you repeat, "sooooo embarrassing."
suna snorts, and atsumu, this time who has fully given up on the whole glaring thing, says, "you are uninvited to my house."
(and suna gives you another high five.)
it feels like it's been forever since you last saw suna. the last time the three of you had been together like this was at kita's birthday, and even then, you all seemed way too busy to actually hang out.
so, seeing him now? still connected and bonded with you like not a single second has passed? well, who cares about that stupid glove anymore.
suna takes a step to sit on the chair next to atsumu, but before he can, his phone rings, and he looks at you, brows slightly furrowing.
"i have to take this outside." he shakes his head in annoyance, but before he goes, he takes another step towards you.
suna hugs you again, "it's so good to see you." and he pulls back, kissing the side of your head.
and he's off to go outside.
"what? i get no kiss?" atsumu calls out to him, and for a second, suna turns around, subtly flashing his middle finger and flipping him off with a teasing grin.
atsumu laughs, this time looking at you, "so that basically means he loves me more than you."
"i've got tough competition." you nod, coming back to your seat.
and it's just the two of you again.
he sits comfortably in front of you and you do the same for him, and it's almost like the two of you are just there to ... be there. to just sit together for a while, to just look at each other, and he loves it.
"hey," atsumu smiles.
and your shoulders rise, "hey."
atsumu breaks away from the little staring thing the two of you had going on, and for a second, his attention is on his sports bag as he gently rummages through it.
he finds whatever it was he was looking for, and looking back at you, his smile easily reaches his eyes.
"here." and he hands you a glove.
it isn't the glove the dry cleaners lost, but its the other pair of it that you "misplaced" a few months ago.
"where did you get this?" your mouth falls, the traces of a smile peaking through.
and for a second, atsumu pauses, and he just shrugs.
he tells you, "i keep this one in my locker."
you can't seem to stop smiling, "why?"
what was that saying? i carry your heart with me all the time? atsumu feels like he's read that somewhere before, but he never did get the chance to forget about it.
the glove that means so much to you - it probably doesn't hold as much meaning to him, if he's being honest - but for some reason, he still keeps it in his locker, because every time he sees it, he thinks of you.
he shakes his head, "just because."
"just because?" you frown, but the crinkle in your eyes doesn't go away, "that's all i'm getting?"
and atsumu, with the playful, teasing, haze he still has in his eyes, leans in closer to you - his smile getting wider when you do the same - and with a quick laugh, he pulls you in with his hand.
and he kisses you, because that's all he's been wanting to do since you first called him this morning.
its a simple, quick kiss, nothing too deep or rushed. it was just him, his eyes closed, smiling against your lips for however long he can stretch a second.
"that's all you're getting." and he pulls back, the smile on his face the same, but a different pink dusting his nose.
you shake your head, laughing, "wow, being married to you is getting me nothing at all."
and atsumu says, scoffing, "yeah yeah, just make sure to give this glove back to me when you get home tonight."
i carry your heart with me all the time, i carry it in my heart.

please expand more on the shoyo tiktok gym thing 😭 i am going insane ONLY IF YOU WANT TO OF COURSE >:)

content: gn!reader, timeskip and final arc spoilers. established private relationship (that gets revealed). tiktok thirst traps :P just fluff. i rambled a lot lmaoo. note: hehe of course!! for you & me lan<3
— . 。˚ ♡ hinata shoyo tiktok baddie era let's gooo!

hmmm so shoyo decides to try tiktok out because of all the hype the jnt receives during the olympics. they're the monster generation after all — atsumu and suna have been gaining quite a lot of traction on their pages, and they ask shoyo to cameo in their videos often, by popular demand. so he decides to give it a go!
of course, as soon as shoyo launches his tiktok and posts a video (just a short one of him sitting on the locker room bench at practice, introducing himself while the rest of the jnt are walking around and chatting in the background) he blows up instantly. @n1njashoyo gains over 30k followers within a day, and his first video gets a 100k likes in a couple of days. his account becomes big news everywhere.
he's one of the most popular members of the team globally, so it makes sense. he's known as the cutest player on the jnt, and in brazil/argentina he's so famous as “ninja shoyo”. people start tagging him in edits and fancams, and he sometimes duets them to praise and thank them.
lots of “hinata senshu notice me please 🥺” comments on his videos, and he replies to some of them with “hi !! 👋🏻” because he's just the cutest ever fr <33 he also responds to most japanese commenters and people that comment in portuguese because he understands them better.
his posts are mostly workout routine videos, different kinds of warm-up/cool-down stretches, high protein meal plan discussions—and he also films (and ocassionally goes live during) his evening runs and practise sessions. he has a series of form correction videos on volleyball, and a series of videos on resistance workouts that target specific muscles.
and every time he posts a clip where he's shirtless, doing curls or just anything with the weights, the videos are so clean and zoom in on his muscles so nicely<3 people start commenting things like “hinata sen do you have a camera man?” and he replies to one of them like “yes i do! :)” and they start telling him “senshu i think your cameraman has a crush on you...” little do they know v_v.
he doesn't respond to those comments, and the rumours about him having a lover away from public eye resurface. some viewers from brazil (where he lives at, since he's a player for ASAS) say that they “know something the others dont” etc etc.
and it builds up until about six months after shoyo launches his tiktok, one night he posts a thirst trap. low exposure filter, dim blue lighting, he's shirtless and standing infront of the mirror in just a pair of sweats — and behind him, someone is wrapping their arms around his waist. the video ends as soon as you fully lock your arms around his waist, and it drives his fans crazy.
the fangirls start posting about how their dream husband just announced that they're no longer single, comments like “gf reveal???” “hinata sen WHO IS THAT” “mr. hinata shoyo EXPLAIN” fill nearly all his recent videos.
after that little stunt, he disappears from social media for a bit. he had posted the thirst trap right on the brink of off season, and he stops posting on any of his socials for a couple of months.
then one day he makes a sudden, quick comeback — he drops a long video of himself and you, his beautiful partner, relaxing at a beach resort and enjoying a sunset dinner together at the beach. he clinks his glass of cherry wine with yours, takes a sip and grins at you all dopey before leaning in to give you a kiss. there are matching golden bands on both your ring fingers.
and the caption? “5 stars ⭐ food is good !! :)”

notes: divider: cafekitsune. sorry for the late update :< !! a lil longer chapter this time hehe
Engulfed by the warmth of the restaurant’s heater, the group patiently waited for dinner to be served. Low murmurs of fellow customers, the rusty bell at the door sounding with every new person coming in, and the sounds of utensils surrounded you.
Atsumu, and Suna were engrossed in a conversation about the bike tour earlier whereas the other side of the booth—Kita, You, and Osamu kept to yourselves, either by mindlessly reading the menu or scrolling on your phones, tiredness taking over your bodies.
Placing your phone face-down on the wooden table beneath, you let out a small sigh before rubbing at your eyes, gaining one’s silvery gaze.
The little interaction with Atsumu earlier could pass off as nothing but your mind worked in a different way—it worked hard to make every day a little inconvenient for you, whether you liked it or not.
Maybe, he just didn’t want to sit next to you anymore because the two of you spent the last three hours stuck together. A totally valid reason but why was it eating you away? You couldn’t help but feel a sense of oddness to it.
Unaware of your natural habit to stare at Atsumu through your lashes, you carefully watched his face—the way his expressions changed to mirror the topic at hand, the scrunch of his nose, the twitch of the corners of his lips, the shallow dimple on his right cheek whenever he smiled, the flaxen strands that kissed his forehead accentuating his face
All of it was seared in your mind. Funny how he was sitting next to Suna yet it was as if he faded along with everyone else—a distant whitenoise long forgotten.
God, you could look at him all day.
A subtle, involuntary smile formed upon your lips, eyes gleaming beneath the warm lighting of the restaurant as if there were heart-shaped sparkles in them.
As if by instinct, you snapped out of the trance, a burning gaze boring into the side of your face. Looking over to the right, you were met with Osamu’s steely gaze, his brows slightly furrowed—his stare weighed heavy with questions, ones that you probably didn’t want to answer.
Amusement was written all over his face as he narrowed his silvery eyes at you, his pupils scanned your panicked face—the way your brows rose, eyes widened, and lips parted.
The corners of Osamu’s lips twitched with smugness. He had a knowing look on his face, one that you absolutely didn’t like; each silent second passed with your thrumming heart, feeling small under the twin’s judging gaze. Osamu wasn’t born yesterday, he knew exactly what your expression conveyed, an expression that he’s seen countless of times whether it was directed to him or his twin brother.
“You need something?” You asked, feigning nonchalance.
God, it was painfully obvious that you were trying your best to act indifferent, even the tone of your voice betrayed you—it was airy and awkward. The younger twin stared at you for another heart beat before shaking his head, letting out a light chuckle.
Osamu dropped it at that, returning to the device in his hand for entertainment, and leaving you sitting there in total confusion. Though, the feeling dissipated as quickly as it settled as your mind slowly pieced the situation together.
Oh my goodness. He totally caught you staring at Atsumu with heart eyes.
You sat there, between Kita and Osamu as embarrassment pierced through your skin, and into your bones—an unsettling feeling that was all kinds of wrong. Suddenly, the warm atmosphere of the restaurant uncomfortably prickled at your clothed skin, hands eager to claw at its itchiness as the air turned heavy.
The thought of telling someone about your feelings for Atsumu was already a complete nightmare, and you could only imagine how much of a disaster it would be if his twin knew. Not only would Osamu probably tell him but would most likely tell the other guys as well—something called bro code?
You were always aware of the fact that the four were closer to each other, and shared ‘guy secrets’ with one another but you weren’t one to complain. Sometimes, they couldn’t understand your gossips & rants, and vice versa; after all, their thought process worked very differently from yours.
Endless thoughts raced through your mind as you stared at the wooden table in front, the white noise slowly fading into nothingness as each chaotic thought filled the corners of your head.
He absolutely figured me out, right? Now he knows I have feelings for Atsumu, and then he’ll probably tell him and Atsumu will probably know, and then—
“Thank you for the meal!”
The loud exclamation of your friends sliced through your train of thought, not even realising that the meals ordered had already been set atop the wooden table. With the unpleasant thoughts tucked neatly at the back of your mind for later, you dug into the hot meal before you.
The whole table remained quiet, except for sounds of chewing, and slurping as everyone filled their stomachs with food. It was understandable, everyone had a long, tiring day of moving from one city to another—not to mention the duration of each trip.
You quickly glanced over at Atsumu who was busy chowing down his own noodles, forehead creased with concentration as he chewed, cheeks bulging with food.
Oh, the sight alone did numbers to your heart. If only you could pull out your phone, and snap a photo of his silly face right then, and there.
“Don’t forget ta sleep early tonight. We’ve our snowboarding first thing in the mornin’.” Kita pointedly looked at the twins who only bowed their head in response, eyes glued to their own food as if it was the most interesting thing they’ve seen all day.
The decision to try out snowboarding was something out of the blue, despite all five of you having no snowboarding experience. You all decided that doing a new activity during this trip would be fun since everyone was on the same boat—you were already looking forward to tomorrow which would no doubt be full of falling, and slipping down the snowy slopes.
As the five of you fell into a mellow conversation, the pink winter skies of Shizuoka City slowly turned darker, and darker until lone stars decorated the night sky. The streets were now fully illuminated by warm hues of oranges, and yellows, devoid of any people.
The walk back to the hotel sobered you up a bit from the warmness of the restaurant, the frigid night air engulfing your body the minute you walked out the doors.
The twins fell into a step ahead of the group, bickering about who gets to shower first, which unsurprisingly turned into a racing contest where the winner would be graced with being the first one to hit the warm waters.
“Ugh, I don’t get how they still have so much energy.” Suna groaned, tucking the lower half of his face beneath the fuzzy scarf wrapped around his neck. You chuckled in response, looking up from your phone to gaze at the twins as they ran ahead into the night, reduced into nothing but silhouettes.
The brunette leaned closer to you, staring at the device in your hand, “Oh, the place looks cool. Atsumu was telling me about it.” He hummed, watching you scroll across each photo that Atsumu took earlier. Before you could reply to agree, Suna opened his mouth once again, and pointed a gloved digit to your screen,
“Woah, you look really happy on that one.” He chuckled.
Out of curiosity, Kita also leaned in to get a good look of the picture Suna was talking about—you were facing the camera, background showing the stunning hues of Momijiyama garden; a bright smile plastered across your face.
“Atsumu took that picture?”
You hummed, earning a slow nod from the older male, as if hinting something. God, Kita always looked like he knew something and nothing at the same, and it drove you up the wall. Ever since this morning, he had been acting a little off, albeit subtle, you caught on. You were starting to think that maybe you weren’t so secret about your feelings for Atsumu after all.
You gave yourself a few moments to really take in that particular photo—it tugged at your heartstrings.
Did you really look that happy in Atsumu’s presence?
A few minutes later, the three of you were greeted with a red-faced Atsumu who unceremoniously lay on the couch, legs spread wide open, and arms atop his stomach. The faint sound of running water from one of the rooms could also be heard, most likely Osamu taking a warm shower.
“You lost the race?” Suna snickered, plopping himself on the floor, in front of the couch. The blonde, grunted in response—he acted such a sore loser whenever his twin beat him in something.
Clearly old habits die hard.
You remembered each time Osamu came out as the victor every time the twins challenged one another back in highschool. Atsumu would have the biggest frown on his face, thick brows tightly knitted together, and to top it off, a sour mood that none could handle except his other half.
The first time you witnessed it with your own eyes, you thought of how childish his behaviour was. Though, that quickly grew into something you loved about him—Atsumu’s own little charm; the way his bottom lip ever so slightly jutted out into a pout, velvety voice coming out in whines.
Adorable would be an understatement.
Who knew that the behaviour you used to find annoying could turn into the one you loved the most about him?
“You can use the shower in my room. . I don’t mind waiting.” You spoke up, sitting on the wooden dining chair, feigning nonchalance. For the first time that night, Atsumu’s honeyed gaze met your own.
You didn’t miss the way his brows subtly rose, and the tinge of pink on his ears. Oh god, Atsumu didn’t know why his mind wandered all the way to . . shameful thoughts—you weren’t even suggesting anything, just plainly telling him that the shower in your room was available. So why did he just picture the two of you—
The blonde squirmed atop the sofa, shaking his head, “‘S okay. I don’ mind waitin’ for ‘Samu.” He shrugged, completely avoiding your eye gaze by pulling out his device.
Nodding at his reply, you retired to your own room to take a shower and prepare for the night ahead. A soft thud filled the room as you closed the shōji behind you, blocking out Atsumu’s voice as he conversed with Suna, and Kita. The room faintly smelled of grass, and straw, a scent of nostalgia embracing you like warm rays on a sunny morning.
You weren’t going to lie, it felt a little lonely to occupy the room all to yourself knowing that the four were going to be sleeping side by side on their respective futon. Nonetheless, this was your safe haven for the next few days—a space where you could unmask the hidden feelings that lay deep beneath, and be alone with your thoughts.
To say that hiding your feelings for Atsumu didn’t affect you at all would be a sweet, sweet lie—keeping one’s emotions at bay around him almost felt like a sport, and you weren’t winning at all.
After taking a much needed warm shower to clear your mind, and rinse away the unwanted feelings of today, you tucked yourself beneath the ivory kakebuton, and settled for the night—the mellowed hum of Shizuoka City lulling you to sleep.
The dream you had was weird—it was about Atsumu; everything was hazy, and incoherent, as if a distant memory neatly tucked in the back of your mind but you knew one thing, it felt like home. One minute the two of you were laughing about something—head tossed back, and face angled to the skies above, the next minute you were confessing to him.
Unfortunately, you never got Atsumu’s answer as you were gently awoken by Kita who had probably been whispering your name for a good minute now.
As you came to, he leaned back, and sat on his haunches. Warm light seeped from the parted shōji, illuminating the side of his face. Hushed conversations from the living room filled your ears, soft footsteps padding to, and fro around the suite.
“We’ll wait for ya t’ get ready, ‘n then we’ll all grab breakfast downstairs.” He gave your drowsy state one last look before sliding the shōji behind him, leaving you alone—darkness occupying your room once again.
You were greeted with your friends scattered around the living room; the twins were busy having a push-up contest near the hallway to the door, Suna was on his phone sprawled on the couch, angling the device towards the twins—without a doubt, taking a video of them—whereas Kita leaned on the wall, also occupied with his phone.
Everyone was clad in much warmer clothes than yesterday due to the activity ahead but you all ditched the trench coats, and opted for waterproof puffer jackets. You noticed the raven beanie Atsumu donned, bits of flaxen strands peeking from beneath the knitted accessory.
Your heart may or may not have skipped a beat at his boyish appearance.
After a warm, hearty complimentary breakfast, the five of you were enroute to the ski area after briefly waiting for the shuttle. It was the early hours of 6 AM—Shizuoka was still asleep with the dark sky watching over the city. Occasional sounds of early birds humming, and crickets chirping engulfed you along with the frigid breeze.
It was a calm, still morning.
Though, you felt weird inside—it was like the feeling of the calm before the storm. You couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was about but it involved a certain blonde twin.
You had your suspicions during breakfast back at the hotel—albeit, not a concrete conclusion—where Atsumu was quieter than usual. He was surprisingly reserved, and meek, keeping to himself as the group around him conversed about anything, and everything; he wore a weird expression, as if he was trying his best to hide the true emotions that lay beneath.
Normally, no matter the time, Atsumu never ran out of words to say—even when he had to attend the dreadful 8 AM classes back in first year university. Though, you just chalked it up to tiredness or maybe he didn’t sleep well.
Not that you were worried or anything.
As the engine of the bus hummed along the dim winter streets, you looked outside the foggy window on your right, the views of the sleeping city slowly faded into icy, deserted roads—the ivory blankets of snow rested atop mountain peaks in the distance gave a picturesque view.
The raven-haired stranger who sat beside you didn’t hesitate to pull his phone out, a hushed question coming out of his lips. Apparently, he wanted to take a picture of the mountains outside but doing so would require him to squeeze in a bit closer to you. Upon nodding, he gave you a smile before leaning over to take a couple of photos. To give the man ample distance, you pressed your back into the plush backrest, eyes wandering over to Atsumu who already had his honeyed gaze on you.
You sucked in a breath. He quickly looked away.
The blonde sat on the same row after the aisle—next to Kita—whereas Suna, and Osamu sat on the row behind, leaving an empty seat next to you; hence, the handsome raven-haired man. You thought he looked like a professional with the iridescent snowboarding goggles in his hand when he had politely asked if he could sit next to you.
Nonetheless, the rest of the ride went smoothly as the bus carefully ascended further up the snowy mountain.
The endless views of ivory, crystalline snow glimmering beneath the first rays of the peeking sun welcomed the five of you—everywhere was covered in pristine white, blanketed with a thin fog that completed the prospect. The air was crisp, and a white mist formed with every word spoken, and breath taken.
You all basked in the serene landscape for a moment, taking in the milky slopes before heading into the ski resort to grab rented gear, and start today’s snowboarding lesson.
Sitting on one of the benches, you struggled to fasten the black snowboard boots on your feet—it had several parts to it with a rather long string attached inside which you were absolutely clueless about. Kita seemed to easily get the hang of it—were you really surprised? No—and was now helping Suna, with the twins closely following along.
Before you could voice for help, a tall figure stopped right in front of you,
“Hey, did you need help with tha—Oh! It’s you, again from the bus. Did you need some help?”
You looked up at the owner of the voice—which also caught your friends’ attention—it belonged to the man from earlier, the one who sat next to you on the bus.
He donned a red uniform gear, you noticed the word ‘Instructor’ written in white, bold letters right beneath the company logo; the iridescent goggles he held earlier were on his head, secured around a black helmet. Oh, so he worked here.
“Hey! Yes, please. ‘M not quite sure how to fasten it.” A humourless chuckle left your lips, cheeks slightly heating in embarrassment.
Was your cluelessness that obvious?
He nodded, kneeling down before you, and gently circled his gloved fingers around the hem of your snow pants, folding it upwards to your knee. “Your first time snowboarding?” He asked, briefly meeting your gaze before focusing on the task at hand.
You hummed in agreement, “My friends and I are headed for a beginner’s lesson.” You sat there in a silent awe as the ravenette skilfully fastened your boot, and onto the next one. There was nothing to be fascinated about, really, this was probably second nature to him.
“Yeah? Same here. Well, as an instructor, of course. Who knows, maybe I’ll be assigned to your group.” He gave you a warm smile, looking up from under his lashes—you didn’t miss the faint snort that came from where the twins sat, earning a quick glance from you,
Osamu was nowhere to be found, leaving you with a very obvious answer as to who the sound belonged to. Atsumu’s gaze briefly met your own, and you swore there was a subtle crease between his brows but it disappeared before you could even process it.
Shifting your attention back to the raven-haired man, you mirrored his smile, thanking him for his kind help. “Ah, don’t worry about it. I’m Kuroo Tetsurou, by the way.” Before you could say your name, he was already walking away, slipping into a conversation with a fellow staff.
Atsumu tried to be very normal, and nonchalant about it. About the way the rest of his friends shot teasing remarks for having some guy on his knees for you—literally, and maybe figuratively. Okay, so what? He worked there, that’s what he was supposed to do. What the hell is the big deal? He just fastened your snowboarding boots for you.
Nonetheless, it bothered Atsumu. Even just thinking about it planted a burning seed of jealousy within the pit of his stomach, it gave an uncomfortable, fiery feeling whenever he moved around.
Something Atsumu did not want to get familiar with.
As if the universe beyond the skies were against him, it turned out Kuroo was the assigned snowboard instructor for the group. Atsumu noticed the smile you donned at that information, it would’ve had his knees buckling if it wasn’t aimed towards the stupidly tall, raven-haired instructor.
A whole day to spend with the man Atsumu already despised, how great. Not to mention how Kuroo was a snowboarding expert while Atsumu could already see himself falling, and tumbling down the slopes—god, he’s already at a disadvantage.
Whatever.
The beginner’s lesson with Kuroo started off fairly smoothly—he gave a thorough explanation of the snowboarding basics while being very attentive to each of you.
There were a couple of laughs here, and there as the group attempted to get used to balancing on the snowboard—90% of the time, your gloved hands were met with iciness from slipping, and falling. You were sure Suna had at least a few embarrassing shots of each of you, either face planted on the snow or in the midst of unceremoniously falling down.
Though, you weren’t really afraid to be off-balance since the snow beneath was soft, and inviting, despite its coldness.
As the lesson progressed further, you caught your gaze wandering over to Atsumu more often than not—you just couldn’t help yourself, not when a weird aura was emanating from him. The funny thing was, Atsumu seemed to be mirroring your actions because whenever your eyes shifted to him, his honeyed gaze would already be on you.
During the first hour of the lesson, your eyes met for a total of 12 times. Not a single word spoken, just the intimacy of eye contact. You were always the first one to break eye contact since it did more damage than good to your poor, poor heart. Though, his caramel eyes didn’t seem to tug at your heartstrings the way it did.
His stare mirrored his behaviour—empty, and distant.
It worried you. A lot. Atsumu was clearly acting this way to distance himself from you, without a doubt—he was indifferent towards Suna, and Kita, still the same old Miya Atsumu that everyone knew, and adored. So, why was he suddenly acting this way with you?
By the final hour of the lesson, your head was already filled with a million possible thoughts, and scenarios of why Atsumu was acting weirdly, and none of them were pretty. It got to the point where you couldn’t even hear Kuroo’s velvety voice anymore as it plagued your mind.
Suddenly, it felt like you were the only one atop the mountain—all alone in the endless snowy fields where distant murmurs, and laughter were replaced with harsh, frigid winds. As if you had travelled inside your own mind—cold, harsh, and devoid of any happy things.
During the walk back to the building, you fell completely silent—zoned out—and not engaging with the group’s conversation. With the amount of times Atsumu had been glancing at you, he didn’t miss the way your behaviour changed, and he knew damn well it was because of him.
The transport back was awfully suffocating due to the fact that Atsumu was sitting next to you—albeit, not by choice. There were more passengers that boarded the bus which meant someone had already taken the seat next to Kita, leaving Atsumu to awkwardly settle into the seat beside your own, after sparing you a side glance.
Both of you were as still as snow that decorated the mountain caps, careful not to touch each other’s clothed arm as the bus swayed with every turn taken. Despite the weird tension, you couldn’t help but feel oddly relaxed—maybe it was from snowboarding all day or maybe it was because Atsumu radiated warmth like no other. Even though he was centimetres away, the warmth of his body was inviting, as if wrapping two mellow arms around you.
You could almost just . . drift off to the land of dreams . .
“Wake up. We’re here.”
The sound of Atsumu’s muffled voice slowly filled your ears as you came to, you were greeted with orange, and pink hues of the afternoon skies outside the window. His gloved hand rested atop your knee, gently shaking it. The bus was half empty now, a small line of passengers down the aisle waiting to get off.
Fuck, did you actually fall asleep?
Upon fully sobering up from sleep, your body stiffened after realising that your head was comfortably resting on Atsumu’s right shoulder. You quickly sat up, awkwardly straightening your back which earned a rather quick glance from the blonde. Heat uncomfortably prickled your skin, something you’ve grown very familiar with.
“Sorry. I can’t believe I fell asleep on you.” You rasped, awkwardly rubbing your nape in embarrassment. Atsumu dismissed it with a lazy wave of his hand, and a forced smile,
“‘S okay.”
That was all he said before getting up from his seat to leave the bus, not once looking back. Your heart sank, and once again, your mind was clouded with unpleasant thoughts.
You hated how easy it was for Atsumu to build a wall between the two of you.
Though, you didn’t have the time to mope around when Kita called out your name. He rested a hand on your shoulder as he walked behind you to the front of the bus—it gave you a sense of security, as if to remind you that he’ll always be there for you. A wordless reassurance.
That night, you tucked yourself under the kakebuton, hoping that tomorrow, and the coming days would be somewhat different from today.
Oh, how wrong you were.
Naturally, you enjoyed the remaining two days of the trip—On the third day, the group had the opportunity to enjoy a leisure cruise around Shimizu Port which offered breathtaking views of Miho-no-Matsubara in front of Mount Fuji; a view you’d only seen on the internet back then.
With the salty, winter sea breeze engulfing your bodies, the five of you took hundreds of photos with the picturesque background which was surely one for the memories.
Somewhere along the cruise, as the boat glided across the still waters of Shimizu, you, and Atsumu were left alone outside on the open deck. You looked over at the blonde who quietly stood beside you, flaxen strands gently dancing in the winter sea breeze, caramel eyes locked on to the azure waters below—his brows were furrowed in concentration, lips slightly pursed.
You didn’t know which was more breathtaking, the exquisite views of Mount Fuji or Miya Atsumu.
“Can I talk to you?”
It was quiet, and unsure but loud enough for Atsumu to hear over the gentle winds of Shimizu. He looked at you with the same gaze—not the one that made your cheeks heat—before giving a nod. You stared for a moment, studying the way his honeyed eyes shone beneath the winter ray, endless pools of sweet caramel drawing you in.
“Are we . . okay?” You could almost laugh at your pathetic tone, chest tightening with uncertainty. There was a brief pause, the purring of seagulls filling your ears as Atsumu contemplated. He contemplated. That alone was enough to put a crack in your heart.
As if the universe wanted you to break more, he gave you a forced smile, and lied through his teeth,
“Of course we are.”
Both of you were aware of how absurd that lie was but none dared to speak. Instead, you gave a silent nod in response before heading inside to sit with the rest, leaving Atsumu to his own thoughts.
On the fourth day—the last day—the five of you did some last minute souvenir shopping before boarding the shinkansen, en route to Hyōgo.
The purpose of this trip was to have fun, and enlighten one’s mind but you couldn’t believe that you were leaving Shizuoka with a heavy heart—memories of the past four days weighing you down more than it’s supposed to. All because of a certain blonde. You didn’t know what to make of it—what would happen next.
It scared you to even think about drifting apart from him.
The thing is, you expected to come out of this trip closer to Atsumu than ever but it turned to the complete opposite, and you didn’t know what the reason was. He was a different person when the second day rolled around—he never spoke to you, instead, you were only met with his honeyed gaze, though, it was anything but saccharine.
That same night—after parting ways with your friends—you twisted, and turned beneath the ivory sheets, heart racing, and palms sweaty. Even though your body was exhausted from travelling, your mind kept you awake.
Though, only one thought resided in your head.
With your phone in your hand, you clicked on the conversation with Atsumu, a thread of past messages greeting you. Your chest tightened at how close the two of you used to be.
You figured that Osamu must’ve told his brother about what happened back at the restaurant—how he caught you staring at Atsumu. The former was already suspicious of you since then, it only makes sense for him to tell the blonde about it.
About how you might have feelings for him.
That was the only reason you could think of, and it seemed plausible enough. It surely didn’t feel like a coincidence with the way Atsumu’s behaviour shifted after that night. You chalked it up to his way of gently letting you down, a wordless way of telling you that he, in fact, doesn’t feel the same way.
Why else would he behave weirdly, and avoid you?
The time read 1:30 AM. December 30th.
With a heavy heart, you gathered several thoughts from your heart, and mind before typing out a lengthy paragraph containing a confession of your feelings, and the expectations of rejection.
Confessing to him wasn’t going to change the fact that he didn’t like you back but you needed to hear from Atsumu that he, indeed, didn’t reciprocate your feelings—one last closure to rest your pining heart, and then you could move on. Easier said than done but not entirely impossible.
After a heart beat, you send the message to Atsumu.

okay so i'm sure there's going to be a million posts like this but here is my personal list of things that made me lose my shit while reading the anniversary one-shot LET'S GO:
the little "it's been a while" at the start. . . . yeah it sure fucking HAS
everyone's expressions in the "they once played each other as rivals but now stand at the top as monsters" panel is SO funny. they DO look like monsters that scared the crap out of me
THE FACT THAT USHIJIMA GOT BAITED INTO JOINING BECAUSE "ah yes i know EXACTLY how you can take down hinata AND oikawa at the same time!"
also. i love how kuroo is trying to convince him WHILE joining him on his run and ushijima is like "bro you good? we can. we can stop you know"
THE KID WHO SAID HE DIDN'T LIKE VOLLEYBALL AS A BITTER MEMORY I LOVED THAT
the ali roma players ruffling kageyama's head like he's a lil bro to them is SO cute oh my god. also??? they're all significantly taller than him??? EVEN THOUGH AT THIS POINT KAGEYAMA IS 6"2???
me @ yoffe: i know nothing about you but i would die for you
"ah . . it's cause we're hot" "sexy setter" "battle of the hotties" i'm CRYING
SUGA AND KUROO BANTER IS SO FUNNY GOD I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
also?? "suga-chan" and "yacchan" and "asahi-kun" idk man there are so many missed moments in between but we see all this is and it's like. they really DO love each other and have never really forgotten their roots or their connections and i'm so in love with that
ALSO ALL THE HINTS OF NOYA POPPING UP WHERE KUROO TRAVELS THAT'S SO FUNNY
the heitor and nice cameo brought me so much JOY
me reading the ". . . some things never change" line as kuroo remembers how hinata has grown from when they were just kids all the way to now: [in tears] yeah. yeah.
SUNA RINTAROU WITH HIS IPHONE 14??? SIR??? EXCUSE ME??? i know we all joked about nekoma being the rich fuckers but. dear god. suna really is not afraid to flaunt it
GOSHIKI AND HINATA USING FIRST NAMES FOR EACH OTHER HAS ME SOBBING
also. the looks on oikawa's and atsumu's faces when iwa comes up behind them.
WHEN HYAKUZAWA COMPARED YAKU AND YOFFE TO ZOOTOPIA LMFAAAAO
i genuinely was NOT expecting to see iizuna tsukasa the light of my life in the line-up but i'm SO happy he is oh my god
ALSO YAKU AND INUNAKI ON THE SAME TEAM??? HELLO???
lev, nekomata, and kenma sitting all together is so pure and sweet
THE FACT THAT YACHI DESIGNED THE LOGO. GOOD FOR HER I'M SO FUCKING PROUD
asahi too!!! he did such a wonderful job on the uniforms!!!
hinata and kageyama shaking hands . . . not for the last time i'm sure . . . because they just want to keep playing each other over and over again . . .

series masterlist -> part eight
Suna wasn’t familiar with the astronomical pain that hit him like a gigantic asteroid, leaving nothing behind but ashes of his flesh and bones. Not even his soul was immune to the breadth of ache that he was currently receiving from your absence.
Even if he had exhausted all the words from the dictionary, there was nothing that could describe what he felt as soon as he heard those words from Kita and Osamu. You left. Two simple words that failed to sink into him. It was hard to believe or perhaps he was just convincing himself that it was all a prank—that they were doing this to get a reaction out of him. If that was the case, why was there no trace of humor in their faces?
He felt stuck. Same as when he saw you sob to your heart’s content yesterday. Same as when his cowardice led him to simply watch you walk out of his life, watching your figure fade at eventide without knowing that it would be the last time he would ever see you.
This couldn’t be real.
“You guys messing with me right now?” His annoyed tone signaled his state of in denial. Brows furrowed, lips curled into a frown. Rintarou was minutes away from exploding.
Kita and Osamu seemed to have expected this reaction as they traded glances before the latter responded. “She took the G Wagon,” Osamu confirmed, “she knows I had the key in my bag. Must have taken it when I wasn’t looking.”
Blood rushed out of Rintarou’s system, resulting to his pallid face.
“Sunarin,” Kita spoke cautiously, “she’s been on the road since midnight. She could be miles away by now.”
“Why do you—she’s fucking alone on her own!” Suna’s emotional outburst caught them off guard. “She can’t go on this journey by herself. She’s not safe. She’s... shit. Fuck! This is my fault. I'm supposed to go with her. I'm supposed to help her find her Asher. I... I was...”
He couldn’t think straight. No, it was impossible to think straight. His head was cruelly filled with the worst case scenarios of what could happen to you by going through this long and dangerous journey. All this time, he let you suffer alone and he was unbelievably stupid and oblivious to your pain. Insensitive, unsympathetic, he was nothing but a bastard to you.
You had been there for him in his lowest. You stayed by his side when he needed someone. You treated him with nothing but kindness. Your love? He couldn’t even begin to start. Suna could never imagine that someone would love him for seven agonizing years in exchange for seeing his smile.
When they said you would never truly understand somebody’s worth until you lose them, this was the very definition of it.
A twinge of burning ache dominated his entire body more than any other emotion surging within him. Whenever he closed his lids, he could see your lachrymose eyes, your moist lips, and your rosy cheeks. Suna refused to accept that the last image he would remember of you was how he made you weep from the seven years worth of pain that he had unintentionally given you.
He just lost the only person that loved him beyond what the cruel universe could return to her. You. The only one who gifted him with unconditional love—a love that he failed to return because he had been giving it to someone else.
Suna’s heart was reacting quicker than his mind and he didn't stop himself when his feet carried him towards the only person that he could think of approaching right now. Without listening to Kita and Osamu’s distant calls, he stomped straight to the storage area where he found Haru standing on the side.
He already swallowed his pride because his desperation superseded everything else. “Where’s she?” An immediate question left his lips. “Tell me where she’s heading to. What did she say to you?”
It was clear as day that Haru didn’t like Suna because the guy was transparent at showing his indifference towards him, but he looked awfully somber at the fact that he let you go off alone. “She’s off to Aomori. I couldn’t change her mind.”
“But—” but what, exactly? Why couldn’t Rintarou find a reason for you to stay? He wasn’t as important as Asher, but your sudden absence was destroying him. It wrecked him so much that he fell backwards on a nearby bench, distraught. Unable to formulate his thoughts. A deep inhale followed before he spoke again, “I didn’t think she would leave just like that.”
Haru took this chance to scoff, “Did you want her to stay around and see you with Sophia?” The guy took a pause to shift into a rigid stance. “Even if she doesn’t say it, I know how much you broke her while she was with you. Isn’t that enough for her to let go?”
Hands in his head, Suna felt like pulling the strands of his hair in frustration. “You don’t fucking understand what it’s like...”
“Yeah and I don’t give a shit about how you’re feeling, but I’d spare her from pain if I were you.” Haru clenched his jaws. “She's had enough. Asher is her priority and she's risking her life for him."
It wasn't in Suna's character to be very emotional, but it did feel like tears were about to pool his eyes to release even just a little bit of his sorrow. With minutes passing in silence, a sigh fled from Haru's lips. He wasn't particularly angry at Rintarou, he was just upset that you've had to suffer on your own even when the guy you loved was with you for four months.
Maybe that was what urged Haru to speak up and say, "I honestly thought all the effort she did to show her love for you would end up reciprocated at some point,” he exhaled, “All the letters she wrote back in high school just because she couldn't outright admit to you—"
The world must have stopped spinning from its axis at that exact moment. "Letters?" Suna was as pale as a ghost. "She wrote the letters?"
Haru held his breath, restraining confusion on his face. "You threw it all away, right? She stuffed them all in your locker back then and you never cared to read any of them."
Eyes wide, hands balling into fists. A hard swallow caused his Adam's apple to rise and fall at the heavy realization. His chest was constricting from the wave of different emotions flooding him all at once. Suna needed space to breathe before he could detonate. He was already shattered into broken pieces but this was the icing on the fucking cake.

Sophia came barging inside the empty cabin as Suna was swamped with deep thoughts from the influx of information that he had found out for the past three hours. She must have heard about your departure because there was a look of bliss decorating her caramel eyes. Those very eyes used to make Suna go weak on his knees, but now he wanted nothing but to avoid them.
Repulsive.
"There's nothing we could've done for her," she sweetly spoke, sitting next to him on his bunk. "She only did what's best."
Sophia was his girlfriend for 4 years and this was one of the rare occasions where he felt the dire need to shun her. "I'm coming to get her," he announced, eyes strictly on the floor. "I'm sticking by my promise."
Wasn't it ironic how the tables have turned? Back when there was just you and him, Suna couldn't stop talking about searching for Sophia and doing whatever it took just to find her. He was determined to look for the girlfriend that he lost while he was with you. And now, here he was, willing to leave Sophia behind for the second time around.
The same girlfriend who lied to him and took credit for someone else’s love without an ounce of guilt.
One of the things Suna hated the most were liars.
"What do you—" She gritted her teeth. "You can't do this to me again, Rin! You promised me you'll always choose me over anything else! You told me you'll never leave my side for anyone!" Her rage-filled eyes sent daggers through his soul. “You’re being rash. Stop trying to run after her! I already let you off once, I’m not letting you do that again.”
He gathered every bit of his patience to remain in his stoic mien. “I don’t think it’s still up to your hands what I choose to do.”
In return, she huffed in disbelief, "Four months ago back in Hyogo, the military came to get us and you were already in the fucking bus with me but you stayed behind because you wanted to come back for her.” Reminding Rintarou of that day hurt Sophia, but he was far too frustrated to be apologetic. “Did you think I forgave you for it, Rin? Did you think I simply forgot how you chose to be with her at a life and death situation?”
The entire room was eerily silent as if he lost his sense of hearing because words refused to leave his lips. Suna briefly recalled the day where the military arrived in a huge bus to rescue everyone in your neighborhood and he spotted a young and traumatized Asher sitting at the far back without his sister beside him.
“Ash, where’s your sister?” he desperately asked, crouching to look at the kid in the eyes. “Wh-Where’s she? Why’s she not with you?”
Tears cascaded from your brother’s eyes. “A-At home,” he struggled to say, “N-Neechan’s stuck and... and wanted me to run and g-get in the bus.”
Suna’s eyes widened, muttering a silent cuss before he squeezed the boy. He suffered at the thought of you sacrificing your life just to ensure your brother’s safety. It was the same thing he could have done for his sister Rumiko if only he wasn’t too late. “I’ll get your sister. I’ll bring her to you,” it was a desperate oath but one that he would surely stick to, “I promise. I’ll save her.”
Asher could only nod as more tears gushed out of his eyes. The poor kid had to witness his parents turn into zombies in front of him and now was on a high possibility of losing his sister, too.
The military began announcing that the bus would depart because they could no longer rescue everyone else due to the unfortunate amount of people who had turned into zombies. The city was now deemed unsafe and inhabitable.
But between life and death, Rintarou could never allow to see another person in his life die because he failed to save them.
He was running out of the bus while Sophia was sobbing, attempting her best to stop him. “Rin, just stay! Please, what are you doing? It’s not safe!”
“I’m sorry,” he really did feel so, but he gave her a kiss on the forehead for some reassurance. “I’ll find you and see you again, Sophia. Take care of yourself in the camp, okay? Wait for me in there.”
The officer got in between them, “Boy, if you leave the bus we ain’t waitin’ for you.”
He didn’t care. All he could think of was to run back to your house and save you before it was too late.
“No, Rin!” He was already a few steps away from the bus as Sophia continued to scream. “Rin, come back! Please!”
Suna realized that the reason he might have been so fixated at trying to find Sophia was because he was eaten by guilt for leaving her and choosing to save you. He had been very dismissive because he felt sorry for hurting the poor girl, not knowing that he was hurting you in the process, too. But if he was to rewind the time, he was willing to do the same thing over and over because saving you was never something he could regret.
It was the fact that he was choosing another girl over his girlfriend and it was what led him to have a guilt-ridden mind throughout his time with you. I’m in love with Sophia, he used to remind himself whenever he was making love with you. I love Sophia—only Sophia, he would force it in his thoughts whenever he wanted to kiss you.
However, with the truth unintentionally coming out from Haru’s own words, Suna was an absolute wreck. The truth landed on him like a supernova, exploding the catastrophic reality behind the relationship that was built upon lies.
“Why can’t you just admit it?” Sophia spoke again, this time her voice was breaking and her tears were threatening to spill, “Just admit to yourself that the reason we keep breaking up is because you’ve always wanted to be with her! You’ve always had an eye for her even when you’re already dating me!”
Over the course of his 4-year relationship with Sophia, they had been on and off. He’d say he didn’t have a definite reason to break up with her but he didn’t feel right in staying with her either. Especially not when she always fought with him over the smallest things. When she tried to control who he was talking to. Getting jealous even with the briefest glance at you.
As her boyfriend, Suna only wanted to please Sophia because he had to. It was his role. She even went as far as threatening him that if he was to speak to you, she would break up with him and never speak to him again. At the time, Rintarou prioritized Sophia’s happiness over his own. He always did, because he loved her. He was convinced that he was head-over-heels in love with her. No one else loved him as much as Sophia did, at least that was what he believed.
The toxicity reeked between them. It wasn’t something that everyone knew but he suffered a lot when he was dating Sophia. It wasn’t all sunshines and rainbows, although he did love her truthfully, the ugly parts of their relationship were also very much present.
“It’s not her fault,” Rintarou responded sternly, “You were controlling. There were moments I felt suffocated when I was with you and that’s why we keep breaking up.”
Sophia’s eyes glossed, lips quivering in anticipation of her tears. She was evidently frustrated. “Are you with me because you love me or are you with me because it’s what you think is right?”
Silence was his answer because it was better not to speak his mind. It was the same thing he asked himself many times before but refused to acknowledge it knowing that it could ruin whatever he had with Sophia.
Putting Sophia’s happiness over his own was his hamartia. He ought to change course.
“Rin,” she begged, tears brimming in the corner of her eyes. “I’ll let you choose one more time. Her or me?”
He looked away with a heavy breath, thinking about the amount of times he answered this question without much thought. But right now, he was choosing himself. And by doing so, his answer was, “Her.”
It wasn’t much of a shock that he received a hard slap from Sophia after hearing his cold response. The poor girl was weeping and he felt bad that he made another girl cry over a span of two days, but the idea of Sophia stealing the letters and blatantly lying to his face for four goddamn years just brought less burden to his conscience.
He couldn’t believe he used to love this girl too much that he would die for her.
Now, each second without you brought him immense unbearable pain.
“Sophia,” he spoke in a lethargic voice, “did you plan to lie about those letters forever?"

You felt like you just went through a really bad breakup without actually dating that person.
With the amount of tears you’ve shed since your last talk with Rin, you could probably create a swimming pool out of your own tears. You were a dried prune after crying all night as you were driving out of Tokyo with zero sleep.
It was an easy decision to leave, but saying goodbye to Suna was the hardest. You thought you would be okay with how you finally released yourself from being a prisoner to his heart. You thought you could live with the idea of letting go for his sake and yours. On the down side, it was tough. It seemed like your body departed from the camp, but you left your heart with him.
You felt so lonely and how the world was against you. It was a battle that you’ve had to face on your own because no one else would be by your side. Haru probably would've, but the guy had already done his part and you wished not to burden him further. He had a whole community to protect and you would be plain selfish to have all of his attention on you. It was enough that he guided you into sneaking out of the camp so you could leave at once despite his numerous attempts of stopping you. Truth was, you couldn't be stopped. Not when your brother was out there possibly waiting for you and it was the only positive thing that you were holding onto.
Seeing Asher again was your only hope.
Every prefecture that you've passed through was a complete ghost-town. Most, if not all, of Japan had now turned into wastelands with very little sight of survivors or mere living beings. You've encountered Z1s and Z2s on the road where you saw them hunched over dead bodies, slobbering their innards and feasting on human scraps. A disgusting sight, truly. But it was something that was now deemed normal in the age of a zombie apocalypse.
You simply drove past them, even bumping into some cadavers as the G Wagon sped off through a road filled with abandoned cars and decaying corpses that would soon rise up from being dead. Perhaps if you rolled the windows down, the malodor would cause your stomach to turn.
You didn't manage to bring enough supplies as you left the camp in haste. While you had two guns and limited ammunition, your food supply was only of a reasonable amount too. Exhaustion caught up to you after being on the road for hours until you finally reached Miyagi where you've decided to take a detour.
The car was parked at the side of a desolated highway where you've chosen to take a break from driving to take a nap. Reaching for the duffel bag at the backseat, you grabbed a can of corn that you easily opened from the top. There was nothing new at eating canned goods for lunch, but you surely missed the food you had back at the camp. Had you stayed three more days, you could have had a good home-cooked meal that would better satisfy your famine.
Now you were back to eating preserved meals hoping that they could last you enough until you've reached Aomori.
Aomori. You spread out the map that Haru gave you above the steering wheel as you munched on the corn kernels. Haru was kind enough to trace the route that you would take in order to go to Aomori and based from your current destination, it would take you 4-5 hours to get there given that you wouldn't be caught in a zombie-infested situation.
Looking at the horizon from inside the vehicle, you noticed the overcast skies befitting for an apocalyptic environment. Being alone allowed your intrusive thoughts to come back as they flooded your mind like a free-flowing river.
You couldn't help but wonder how the rest of them were doing back in the camp. You felt bad for leaving without notice, but you assumed that they wouldn't care enough because they seemed to have expected it after you overheard their conversation. Maybe Osamu and Kita might take notice but you doubted that the rest of them would truly give a damn.
Does Suna even care?
He probably didn't. After all, he was already contented with the safe and secure life he had with Sophia back in Tokyo. Being with her was his only purpose in life and you could never forget that fact. Your absence would bring them peace. Your absence would be his happiness.
There was a pang in your chest that you've expected to come but you already knew better not to let it get to you. Thinking of a distraction by focusing on your brother was how you would fall back into your safe zone—a zone that separates you and Rintarou from the endless anguish you've had with him.
Just like what you said to him before you left, 7 years was enough. There was a limit to everything and as much as it brought a spasm of immeasurable ache in your heart, you had to let him go in order to set yourself free.
Easier said that done, but it was the only choice you had.
A sudden knock on your window made you jump from your seat as you instinctively clutched your gun. You had the weapon pointed towards the window to see a man with tousled brown hair raising his hands in surrender.
A human? A zombie? What is he?
His voice was inaudible as he was speaking and gesturing behind him. Your heart was thumping crazily at the potential danger that this could lead to. However, as you looked behind to see whatever he was pointing to, you saw a pickup truck from a distance and another man checking the hood.
RULE 11: Never trust any new survivors you meet
You pointed the gun at him in hostility and watched how he raised his hands up again. "Please, just listen to me first!"
Without exactly obliging, you only rolled half of the window down as you spoke, "What do you want?"
"We've got no gas left," he explained, peering behind the window. There was no hint of any antagonism from the guy but you couldn't let your guard down easily. "We were hoping if we can ride with you—not ride with you as in—"
Jesus. You lowered your gun. Something about this guy reminded you of Atsumu. "I get what you mean. Where do you want me to drop you off?"
The man beamed in triumph. "Thank fuck! Just past the highway. I swear, I've got another friend of mine with me if that's fine with you. You can trust us.” He sighed in relief. “Okay look, if we lie to you, you can shoot us or whatever but we’re not bad guys.”
"And your name?" you asked, leaning back on the seat. If Rin was here, he’d have cussed you out of for easily trusting strangers.
"Tooru," he responded. "Tooru Oikawa."

As he said, he brought a friend with him named Iwaizumi and the guy was a bit more tolerable to deal with than Tooru himself. The two guys spent the past 30 minutes blaming each other on why the pickup truck didn’t last long and you’ve concluded that it was because Oikawa kept the vehicle running unattended last night.
They didn’t have many guns. Just one handgun for each of them but they did say that it was fine because both of them were very athletic—they run fast, they were good in combat, and they also knew how to make-do with the potential weapons that they could find that weren’t necessarily guns.
You realized that the survivors you’ve encountered so far seemed to have their own strategies on how to survive. You had your so-called ‘rules’ while Oikawa called them his ‘commandments’ because he claimed that they were more divine than that of a rule.
“So you came from the Tokyo camp?” asked Oikawa, visibly surprised from the passenger seat as you drove. “For real? How the hell are you still traveling?”
You kept your eyes on the road as you’ve made it past the highway and onto the city. “My brother’s in Aomori. I have to see him.”
Iwaizumi, who was sitting from the back, chimed in, “Right, I heard that’s one of the safest places at the moment. That’s where they’re trying to develop the cure.”
After answering with a nod, you inquired, “How about you guys? Don’t you plan to go to refugee camps?”
There was a minute of shared glances between Iwaizumi and Oikawa before the latter answered, “The camp in Miyagi got invaded by zombies recently. We just escaped but we’re on the search for our two friends. They managed to escape too and they’re still somewhere around Miyagi.”
Aside from their loyalty and brotherhood, you appreciated the fact that they never gave up on their friends despite the difficult situation. They couldn’t afford to have any member of their group to simply just die without searching the whole city to ensure that they were still out there.
“Do you have a boyfriend, Y/N-chan?” Oikawa cheekily asked, “or perhaps you lost him?”
Your heart clenched, remembering Rin’s face in your head even though he was never your boyfriend. “...No.”
“Saves you from pain, then.”
In after a few more minutes of driving, you ended up taking the guys to the nearest gas station off the highway where a couple of abandoned cars were free to use if no zombies housed them.
Encountering Oikawa and Iwaizumi along the way was a blessing in itself because you were running low on gas and you knew that there was no way you could have managed to fill up your tank if you didn’t have anyone guarding the whole area.
They were kind enough to act as a surveillance to Zs while you were filling up the tank. The gas station didn’t reek of fetor but the miasma was still there. There weren’t many traces of blood on the cemented ground so you assumed that it wasn’t as infested as you worried it’d be.
Although at least two or three Z2s did come out from the nearby convenience store after hearing the three of you but Oikawa and Iwaizumi ‘took care’ of the business and killed all of the Zs present in the area.
“Iwa-chan! I told you it’s gonna die straight away if you shoot them in the head,” you heard Oikawa argue.
“They die even if you don’t,” was Iwaizumi’s response, followed by, “and besides, it’s hard to aim when they’re staggering.”
Just as you finished filling up the tank, Oikawa leaned on the G Wagon to ask, “You ever encountered this new type of zombie? They’re fucking demonic. They run and they’re hard to kill.”
You smiled. “Yeah, my group call them Z3s. You have to keep shooting them in the head until they die because they can usually still survive after just one blow.”
Although it was quite nice to be around fellow survivors who were on the same page as you at trying to find the people that they’ve lost, you eventually had to part ways with Oikawa and Iwaizumi after your brief time together.
They aided you in getting food supplies from the convenience store before they took an abandoned car from the gas station and went on their separate ways. “Stay safe,” was your last words for them before you’d take off back to your original route, but Oikawa had a much better response.
“Stay alive.”

At 8 in the evening, Miyagi had plunged into Stygian gloom. The caliginous sky left the streets in eerie darkness as you drove by the town—goosebumps overtook your body upon hearing the faint groans of the zombies lurching from a distance, waiting to scavenge on human meat.
The light posts were blinking, barely keeping the light steady as you parked the car outside of a pharmacy to get yourself a pain relieving patch to soothe the ache on your swollen ankle.
You grabbed a shotgun as you walked out of the vehicle, limping towards the pharmacy with a rapid heartbeat. It didn’t help that the whole premise itself was engulfed in uncomfortable silence with only your footsteps echoing through the place.
God, you were scared.
You were extremely frightened. You could die tonight and no one else would have witnessed your demise. You would forever vanish from everyone’s lives, unable to complete your journey to be with your brother. Who would take care of him? Who would tell him that you tried to find him?
The stench filled your nostrils, earning a muffled choke out of you as you stepped inside the pharmacy to get what you needed. You hastily grabbed a couple of liniment patches, stuffing them inside of your jacket before you loaded your shotgun in preparation for your return to the vehicle.
“Grgh!” Before you could utter a series of curses, you shot the first zombie that appeared between the aisle while you held back a scream so as not to attract more Zs that were probably hiding from a distance.
Chunks of blood oozed from its putrid mouth when it collapsed to the floor, gunshot wounding its already maggoty face. You sent another bullet to its head as its diseased eyes stared at you.
Run. You should run.
Except, when you turned around, about three more zombies with slime-filled mouths were lunging onto you.
“AAAH!”
A fusillade of bullets from your shotgun were delivered to their direction as you riddled their heads before you made a beeline out of the pharmacy.
Fuck. Fuck!
“No,” you muttered, dragging your feet to the sidewalk as the G Wagon was surrounded by four zombies. Fuck. You couldn’t stop cursing in your head. Pulling the trigger, you resumed your cannonade and discharged a series of gunfires towards the teetering Zs while you hobbled away from them. “Ngh!”
You winced from the pain on your foot and held your breath as another zombie appeared to your left.
Blanched face, rabid eyes, purple veins on the side of its neck—its limbs were intact and there were barely any signs of decomposition in its supposed corpse of a body.
A motherfucking Z3.
You pulled the trigger and tried to shoot, but no bullets came out to save your life and spare you another day on Earth. You’ve ran out of ammunition and now you were cornered to the wall by a Z3 who was meters away from masticating your flesh.
God, help me. Your eyes were filling with tears at your extreme anxiety.
I have to live, you told yourself. I have to live and see Asher. But goddamn you were so fucking alone and scared for your life.
With a mere second to count, you gripped tha handle of your shotgun and swung it towards the Z3’s face. “Shit!” you shrieked as it tried to hover over you before you slammed the barrel against his head, aiming for the spot on its temple.
“GRGHH!”
“AAAAH!”
You stumbled back, sending another forceful hit until it flaked out on the ground. Your chest was rising and falling in trepidation, your knees were getting wobbly, and your hands were violently shaking—all these besides the fact that your pulse had already quickened exponentially.
Mushing its head was your best option since you had no bullets to riddle its head, and as you raised the barrel in preparation for another swing, a distant gunshot to the Z3 shook you to the core. One, two, three gunshots to its head to kill the living dead.
“Y/N!”
Turning to your left, you were minutes away from fainting after seeing your savior.
“S-Suna.”
His doleful eyes glistened under the moonlight, chest heaving from his inner turmoil as you looked at him and he looked at you.
Perhaps you were going insane because this couldn’t possibly be true. Perhaps it was your imagination. Perhaps it was—
“Don’t ever leave me like that again,” he spoke, hurt evident from his tone. Sadness obvious from his countenance. Rintarou, in his dark blue flannel, looked like a child who lost his way and in desperate efforts of finding his way back.
Only, he found his way back to you.
Your fingers trembled. “H-How d-did you—”
Failing to process the situation, you were paralyzed as he stomped towards you with a hand on your cheek to catch your lips with a loving, longing kiss that electrified sparks all over your body.
A kiss where he had your lips longingly pressed against each other with barely enough to space to breathe because he had them locked together, moving in perfect sync to match the synchronization of his heartbeat that you could feel from his chest.
It was for the very first time that Rintarou Suna had genuinely kissed you and you wished not to ever pull away to find out that this could only be just a dream.
