last week I stopped looking at the submas tag here on the hellsite... and I'm feeling less frustrated about the fandom. If I look at the toxic positivity and passive agressive additude towards anyone thinking differently.

Taking a step back and only and unapologetically all the content on X feels a lot better. I'm happy that even if they get shit the fans in Japan keep creating wonderful content. Was just thinking about that when I saw your post earlier when I looked into the tags here earlier.

Little furry bs no forced political messaging unique and interesting takes on the twins gorgeous art and comics and so much more

the western "hellsite" side of the fadom has worn me out but I feel rejuvinated whenever I look at the content Japanese and Koreans create. Shipping or not. Their content is so much better. Stuff from here can be good too but they're the exceptions and not the norm.

I'm having a better time with the Submas tag because after being into this fandom for 2+ years, all the obnoxious people have blocked me by now. Some people I actually liked blocked me as well, but I'm still able to see enough new material that I'm reblogging a tumblr artist every day.

It's the damn shipping tags I stopped looking at so much, and I haven't checked Blankshipping on AO3 in over a year. *checks just now* What do we have? Lets see....mermaid bullshit, zoroark bullshit, omegaverse, niche fetishes maybe two people are into, two Ingos and one Emmet, gross transgender mutilation crap, father/daughter with a minor, more mermaid bullshit except Ingo and Emmet are a COLOSSAL SQUID AND SPERM WHALE, WHICH ARE NATURAL ENEMIES, YO!!! (My OCD making me flinch because if they are identical twins, then they'd have to both be one or the other).

Whoa, I'm actually amazed I got two pages in reading summaries, and didn't see a single thing labeled 'whump/hurt no comfort/dead dove do not eat/major character death...' That used to be the majority of content when I first got into Submas Yaoi. Maybe that clique moved on. Still, there's not a single description that made me want to open something up and read it. I'm into the Japanese/Korean aesthetic more than the actual ship. Other blankshippers did a more thorough job turning me off of brother-fucking in that couple months when PLA was at its height of popularity than any foaming-at-the-mouth antis could have done in a lifetime.

I wouldn't give up on general here on Tumblr though. There's still a lot of good content to be had. I've always liked general more than shipping because there's more of the casual intimacy and cutesy spice-of-life. Add to that, but there's a few Asian artists posting here too. The craziest part is there are probably a handful of people who would agree with me, or at least they'd rather see fluff than explicit, but they blocked me anyway for political reasons.

Scooby Doo trending and my general lack of interest of watching Velma ( I don't even have HBO max) just makes me think of my own version of Scooby Doo. As in the one that just won't leave my brain for the day lol. Things that I just thought of

Daphne and Shaggy friendship real. I mean they already were, but in my head they are literally Besties. They both like rock and heavy metal ( Shaggy's secondary favorite music genre). Daphne likes to tease Shaggy occasionally and Shaggy helps reign her in ( she is generally very level headed but can get a little too over ambitious). I was pretty much thinking how fans treat Elesa and the submas twins lol. Pan-Bi solidarity.

Velma, from how I'm envisioning her,is still snarky and sassy and still the brains of the group. I imagine her having trouble making friends and even emoting well, hence why it took her a while to get used to the gang. Is actually pretty close to Fred, both being major history nerds and gifted kids.

Fred is a loveable goof who also serves as a mechanic for the group. A genuine sweet heart " confused but got spirit" type of guy, was the one that brought everyone together. He tries his best to make everyone comfortable ( ie: When shaggy is panicking, Fred always has on him a pair of headphones and a mixtape of 70's music, which he knows would help calm him down. That and the obligatory Scooby snacks). I think he's really good at math too. English/ Literature not so much.

Daphne, as I mentioned before, is a bit ambitious,and honestly a lot more energetic than how I think her canon counterpart is? She kinda the every girl? The muscle, the talker( next to Fred ), the tech expert( again, next to Fred),and very much the fashionista. Honestly,I said that her and Shaggy are Besties, which is true, but I think it would be interesting if the two were childhood friends of shorts? Anyway, Daphne's forever an optimistic and opportunist. Her love for mysteries isn't as intense as Fred or Velma, but she craves adventure - anything to get away from her stuffy mansion.

Shaggy is kinda the protag? Kinda? I tend to focus on his relationship with the rest of the crew, but whatever. He's pretty much how he's always have been, tbh. He wasn't always the hippy 70's loving guy though. He was pretty much a loner, who didn't see much for himself. Then Scooby came into his life, in which then he heard his first 70's song, and it went from there. Daphne was also there too, and she also helped him open up a little AND give him the make over he deserves. Again. Daphne and Shaggy are Besties. Also he has a hobby in cooking! I figured for someone who loves eating food, why not love making it too.

Scooby is the same character wise: just as scared as Shaggy is, but also just as heroic. The thing I'm torn about is if I should have Scoob be a regular dog who can talk, or a dog with some supernatural shenanigans surrounding him. Either way, Scooby is Shaggy's best bud! Kinda the one that lit up his life, tbh.

I think it's time for Pokemon fans to stop deluding themselves into thinking Pokemon Games' writing is good. Even the best stories and characters are just ok. From what you'd seen from the submas fandom you'd think they are peak art and then they are just ok at best. Akari literary has no personality in canon.

I don't mean to call out submas people specifically or anything. I see people eat each other alive in Pokemon polls and for what. People can interact with media however they want of course yada yada. I just. don't understand.

This is why it's really important NOT to perpetrate ableism in fandom (among plenty of other good reasons). This is an example of the real-life consequences of that, though thankfully it's not as serious as where some ableist attitudes can lead.

Emmet is a character that is an adult man, he works a full time job that requires some serious responsibilities regarding safety. And yet because of traits many people, if not most current Submas fans, have interpreted as Emmet being autistic, they often depict him as a perpetual child, or "a child in an adult's body", they depict him as an "owo babey" that needs coddling and comforting. Submas fans during the time Gen 5 was the newest often depicted Emmet in infantilizing ways such as being unable to tie his tie and needing Ingo to do it, eating cutesy bento boxes while Ingo ate a regular adult bento, wearing a baby's bib and getting food all over his face as he ate while Ingo sat neatly with his tie tuckled in his pocket, spotless, Emmet preferring foods like candy and omurice all while being compared to Ingo's more "mature, refined tastes", needing Ingo to read him a bedtime story, etc, etc. He was viewed as a child that needed Ingo to care for him (Ingo was always depicted as mature and abled by comparison, and often exasperated with Emmet's "childishness"), and it was nearly impossible to not run into these interpretations any time you entered a fan space. Emmet appeared disabled, even if the artists didn't intend it that way, but he was only allowed to be so in a way that was "cute", in a way that made him seem like a child. And whereas it's possible to depict Emmet being disabled in a way that would make him a messy eater, or need accommodations, etc, nothing was presented that way/accurately, and he was ONLY depicted this way when people wanted him to be "cute" and/or annoying Ingo. And that was when people were not interpreting his traits as him somehow being "creepy" or "unhinged/feral" or even deciding he liked to hurt people, completely out of character for Emmet and the Pokemon series itself.

I'm going to assume the anon was acting in good faith and didn't know how their message would be perceived. But they infantilized OP (who happens to have been my friend for over 10 years by this point and my roommate for over 4 years) and made her uncomfortable, and it's really important to think about the connection between the all-too-common infantilizing and ableist fanon surrounding Submas, but especially Emmet to this day, and what that could mean for how people choose to interact with people they perceive as being similar to Submas/Emmet (though this goes for any character, really), or even just associate with the character, even if they're doing so with the best of intentions or unconsciously do something because of the association in their head.

Also important is the parasocial aspect, which is a different discussion, but OP did address it.

To be honest, I still feel...uneasy about this. I'm an established adult, and here's a complete stranger essentially treating me like I'm younger than I am and like I'm all "cutesy." It's infantilizing even if it isn't meant that way.

Which is exactly how people often treat Emmet, on that note. I've often shared privately with friends that when I see how people treat these characters who are just like me, particularly Emmet, that it tells me how they'd see me in real life and how they'd interact with me.

// the magnus archives spoilers (all 5 seasons to be safe) ahead, as well as like. whatever i decide to indulge you all with for this au, i'm typing before thinking. this is going to be very long:

Context: In The Magnus Archives universe, there exists, perhaps at the dawn of humanity, perhaps before, Fear. And at first it might have been that, a primal emotion, but when humanity evolved, it Became. And aspects of Its splintered being torments the living beings that tread upon the Earth.

This is what we like to call "The Entities"! People categorize them to make it easier, and it was believed there was 14 facets of them in modern society. They manifest as monsters and things and places that trap and kill any living thing. People can be victims of the Fears, or they can feed it themselves. These people are avatars, and they tend to fall into it unknowingly. Some sorta tilt on the grey scale, others toss themselves into that evil shit. If you're either too obsessive or too fearful of something, you're toast.

The main facet that takes place so far is The Stranger, the fear of the almost human, the uncanny, the "I Do Not Know You." The NotThem is a part of that. They lure their victims in by replacing their loved ones, erasing all mental and recorded memory of the original (excluding analog evidence like tape recorders/vintage photos). Then they murder them, taking their skin and flesh to reuse for their next victims. They do this to feed themselves and their "god".

Actual AU Stuff: So you're like wuhoh, does that mean Ingo's dead? Ingo isn't (because I don't want him to)!!! Ironically Volo's clown time-space tearing shenanigans saved Ingo's ass from being skinned alive so like. Yippee!! NotIngo is the reason why all of Ingo's memories are gone, though. He'll be fine. The NotThem dropped Ingo like pizza, cheese face down on the filthy carpet floor. No one's gonna eat him after that.

Skyla remembers him, because the NotThem always has a few choice people (or one person) that don't have their memories replaced. This is another way to feed off of a bystander's fear. NotIngo enjoys fanning the flames of her paranoia. It's delicious.

There are a few ways, canonically to the TMA universe, you could stop or kill the NotThem. You could bury them under rubble or wet concrete. You could explode them. You could dissolve them into nothing by using relentless gaze of the Beholding, the antithesis of its core existence.

Or like, y'know. Sic a couple powerful pokemon at it.

I genuinely don't think the Entities would do too well in the pokemon universe, since there are actually deities of good (or relatively neutral). A pig can be on fire and like, live with it? The Fears have nothing on general pokemon lore, honestly. Doubt many people would bat an eye.

The Entities hasn't sunken its roots in yet, it's a relatively new force in this universe. Give or take a couple centuries and things could change. This NotThem was bold choosing its particular high-profile target. Ingo and Emmet are verrrry unlucky. (I just really like drama. I live for it. I love doppelgangers too, so this is a two-for-one bonus.)

It's not gonna be too bleak though. They'll all be okay. But like. Losing a bit of humanity never hurt anybody. Just a smidge. Pinky promise.

Let's make some submas headcanons! Complimentary and Autistic Edition:

Emmet started speaking reaaaaaally late, and eventually had to get some speech therapy later on. Ingo, on the other hand, spoke earlier than usual, his first words being something train related (naturally).

Ingo despises thunderstorms. He is particularly sensitive to the sound of thunder. Emmet, on the other hand, finds thunderstorms comforting (he finds the noise and tumbling verrry satisfying). Ingo would never admit this, but he'd snuggle into Emmet's bed during particularly bad thunderstorms when they were younger (and to a much lesser extent as adults. Emmet doesn't gives him a hard time about it anymore, though.)

Emmet is rather impulsive and absolutely has no filter. He can be kind of invasive without really meaning to, and more than a little intense. He definitely has scared some people off the subway before.

Ingo is absolutely polite to a fault. He always puts other people's needs above his own, sometimes to his own detriment. He can also sometimes go overboard with his kindness, occasionally to an uncomfortable level.

Ingo tends to physically drag Emmet away from situations where he may overwhelm other people. Emmet will physically drag Ingo away from situations where he overwhelms other people with kindness or starts biting off more than he can chew.

Emmet is hyposensitive to sweet tastes, but absolutely craves sugar. Ingo, hypersensitive to sweetness, would get a headache from eating half the sugar Emmet consumes on a regular basis.

After Emmet got some pretty bad cavities, the twins became extremely proactive in their dental hygiene routine.

Touch is painful for Emmet. He goes through comical lengths just to avoid touching people, though Ingo is pretty good at helping Emmet avoid situations where he might need to touch someone. Ingo is not a big fan of physical contact, either, though he can tolerate it from people he trusts.

Eeeeey, I noticed you liked the poll I made about Ingo’s age in Arceus. First off, I just wanted to say I’m a huge fan of your fics! I love that you write for Ingo and Akari since there’s not too many of those kinds of fics, and the fics for Arceus have died down overall since the release of Scarlet and Violet, so it’s nice to know there are still people who write for it, and for the Ingo and Akari relationship specifically, so thank you for that. Anyway, since I can’t see who voted for what on the polls, I wanted to ask you directly what you thought Ingo’s age to be in Arceus. I also wanted to ask which design for Ingo you liked best, his design in Arceus or his design in black and white and black and white 2 . (I made a poll for that question too a while back)

Oh my goodness thank you!!! That is so kind ;w; I’m really happy you like my fics!! I’ve been a little sad seeing the PLA fics dying down a little too (and I’ve contributed to that, but unwillingly; school and overall health are just eating my life away right now ^^;)

But trust me I still have so many PLA/submas fics I want to write!!! So many uncle Ingo and niece Akari concepts to explore! The strength of SV’s grip on me is comparable to a limp noodle haha

AND! Yes I actually voted on both of your polls you mentioned! Thing is, I forget to like a lot of the polls I vote in haha. I just vote and move on.

BUT! For your age poll, I voted for the early-late 30’s category. Ingo’s definitely older in PLA than he is in bw/bw2. So I see him somewhere in his thirties purely because the older he would be in Hisui, the harder all the sudden changes would be on his body. And he already goes through so much :( the information isn’t revealed in canon, so I like to see him in his 30’s somewhere.

AND for which design of Ingo’s I liked best? Honestly I sat on that one for a long time haha. It was really hard, but I ultimately went with Warden Ingo’s design because his appearance in PLA really piqued my interest (I thought the shredded clothing was so cool before I realized who he was) and was what got me started on getting interested in PLA and Submas. Had to give the design credit!!

I'm someone who isn't interested in content surrounding OCs. People are free to create them and to whatever with them and good for them but I'm just not interested in them. I once very politely asked some vocal anti to give tags when they share something and they just got pissed at me. Saying that every character be it canon or not is someones OC and I should respect them. This person also constantly screeches about boundaries and all that stuff but apparently it only goes one way. It's okay to ignore someones boundaries if one doesn't think something worthy of tagging.

I dunno. Once again shows hypocrisy at its finest at the side of the antis.

Disgusting content and all that aside: still thinking that I rather hang out with shippers than those snowflake antis who weep when someone is a bit harsher than usual but decide to ignore boundaries if they think they are "pointless"

so far I feel like OC content has always been tagged on your end (if it does show up) so I'm very thankful for that. Also I know you won't give me shit for my opinion. Do you mean like self-inserts? -Or OCs in general created to be shipped with a popular character? I usually don't pay attention unless I really like them. I can only think of a few off the top of my head. IE: ceciloque and the artist who did something cute with Volo. Neither did ships. One was a protag friends with the Subway Twins, the other hated Volo in a facetious way. I also liked the Generic Protag guy but lost interest in him when he made Gene leave Hisui (also the artist soft blocked me, so I don't show up in the tags).

I could see someone getting annoyed with OCs if they do that thing where they make a Mary Sue OC with a harem of OC partners and who goes around making every single canon character fall for them. The two things that aggravate my OCD are off models and implausible cross overs. Extra points if they cover both. You might have read some of my rants in the past, like the most aggravating one of all is when someone makes the Subway Bosses not twins anymore. IE: What if one was a guy and the other was a unicorn? -Or a dog. -Or a fugly mermaid? -Or a llama that vaguely resembles Arceus? (Had to dig up the original post that started a certain tag).

None of that stuff really bothers me on the general tags because I get why people do it. People want to come up with reasons to keep their interest going, and when content runs out with canon, then AUs keep the character alive for them. It's funny with me personally, I can keep myself occupied posting literally the same thing for years, but of course it's not going to be enough because interests change.

Thought of that today when I queued up yet another fan art of Dabi and Shoto sitting side-by-side eating soba together, and that's the equivalent of a Submas reunion hug in my mind, although with Dabi it might have a darker meaning. He might be lying in his tank barely alive having that thought of eating soba with his brother circulating through his mind in a continuous loop. He's done being mad and wants to think of something happier than dying.

I'm about to be guilty of creating a Geten x OC for my latest fan fiction to keep it going, just because I got stuck on the ending. I needed a female character with a specific ability, and the only person who had said ability was one of the advisors for Team Brown: Support Regiment which will create more content to give Geten and Mr. Compress something to talk about when they are eventually incarcerated in adjacent rooms. I decided to make my OC a sibling to to that unnamed advisor. It's me creating an OC but staying within canon. If I were motivated and adverturous enough to keep the thing going past manga canon ending, I'd still keep it in the MHA universe.

I wouldn't be like, "Let's do My Hero Academia Star Wars! -And make Geten a mermaid pirate and Dabi a succubus werewolf with a double-sided light saber!" That would be the exact sort of shit that would drive me up the wall.
