The scent of flowers is nauseating but with a knock on your door, Rafe ignores it as best as he can.
It’s been several days since he’s seen you, the longest he’s gone without any physical contact. His texts were met with one worded replies or none at all. Having done a stellar job of avoiding him. Taking new routes to your lectures, roommates answering the door saying you weren’t home, skipping your Ethics class, the seat glaringly empty beside him.
Rafe knew to give you some space – if only for this once. The incident with you, him and Topper had shaken you greatly, no one had ever seen such an argument between the two of you. His best friend had given him a thorough tongue-lashing that morning after your exit. A reminder from Rafe about Topper’s general creepiness towards his sister had him shutting up instantly.
Before, Rafe had believed you were slowly - but surely - getting used to him being a fixture in your life. He wasn’t stupid enough to think you were fully submitting, of course, but he knew you would be able to get there. With time.
He’s let you have your little tantrum of silence. It was a mistake to treat you so harshly, even if you had wasted a hundred dollars worth of good product.
You’re home alone today. He’s made sure of it. Camped outside your townhome for the past two hours. All your roommates had gone out for various things, filing out one by one. The only one left was the most annoying: Daniella.
While Louise and Andi gave knowing smirks whenever the group was together, Daniella always had a strained smile. As if she struggled to let him anywhere near you.
To ensure her absence, he had recruited the help of Carson. Telling him to lure his girlfriend out so Rafe could talk to his.
He rasps on the door again, calling out your name.
“Open the door. I know you’re home.” When there’s no response, Rafe fist hits harder. “Open the damn door.”
He repeats your name multiple times as he jingles the doorknob. After a few more tries, he sighs and gives up. It didn’t have to go this way.
The click of the door is quiet, Rafe soundlessly closing it as he pockets his copy of the key. Slyly walking through the foyer, the back of your head appears when he comes into the open living room. The crinkle of plastic as his hands squeeze the stems makes your head almost fall off from how fast you look behind.
“What in the actual hell, Rafe?” Pushing off the couch, you cross your arms. A faint line creased between your eyebrows and Rafe can’t help but notice you aren’t wearing a bra. “How’d you get in here?”
“Spare.” Rafe simply says. “Y’know, just in case of an emergency.”
“Or to sneak in here like a fucking creep.”
“No…for when my girl is ignoring me.”
Rafe lifts the bouquet up, savoring how you take in the view of your favorite flowers in white and faint pink. Taking a step toward you, a minute flinch ticks at your shoulders. Rafe stops.
“Well, you can throw them in the garbage on your way out.” Your ponytail swishes when you twirl back to plant yourself on the couch. “Go away.”
“Aw c’mon baby,” Groaning, he rolls his head back. He rounds the couch, standing in front of the TV. Extending his arm out, he presents the flowers again. “How about you find a nice vase for these, and I’ll make it up to you.”
The stupid comment grants him exactly what he wants, your attention on him. Eyes like needlepoints hoping to puncture him.
“You can do so by leaving.” You turn the volume up, and you focus back on the TV.
It’s the dismissal that has Rafe’s ire prickling his skin, his patience splintering.
“Alright, that’s enough. I gave you plenty a time to pout.”
Your lips puff with your incredulous. “Pout? Pout?” You swat at the bouquet. “I’m not pouting. I’m fucking pissed and tired of you.”
'Pissed off' he could deal with. The pouting is cute. Your tears are an intoxicating aphrodisiac. But to be tired of him?
Oh, no.
No, no, no.
Rafe squats down, supporting his forearms on his knees as he looks up at you through his lashes. Staring at the upwards angle of your face, he doesn’t have to wait long for your eyes to nervously meet his. Containing his anger has never been his forte. You simultaneously ignite his fire to a roaring inferno and wash it down until there’s only embers left. At the moment, he was between the two.
“I’m sorry, okay?” He blows out a breath. “I, I should’ve never gotten like that with you. Forgive me, angel?”
Leaning the flowers forward, the petals tap once against your bare knees. A deadlock between wills of opposing nature. Your facial expressions switch like the flipping of pages, the language of you becoming easier to understand the more time he spends with you.
“Apology unaccepted.”
Snatching the bouquet out of his grip, you stand and beeline for the kitchen. Rafe rights himself up, following you lazily. Playing his own game of shadow with each step and turn you make. Your slamming cabinets left and right until you find one beneath the sink, almost cracking the glass of a long vase with your force.
His gaze skims over the flimsy material of your sleep shorts, and the way your breasts slope beneath your tank top. Your hands busy themselves with arranging the stems and such, actively ignoring his presence. Hands in his pockets, Rafe takes measured strides until he’s a hairs length away from your back.
“…I never got my hello kiss.”
Your glare radiates so potently that Rafe doesn’t have to look to know it's there. Placing his hands on your hips, he walks the tips of his fingers inward and smirks when a quiver to your lower belly ripples across. Lips kiss at the tension in your shoulders, thumbs molding like dough into your sides.
“I’ve missed you…” His tongue peaks out, tasting the skin there. A hand travels down to play with the waistband of your shorts. “Missed this cunt, too.”
“Rafe – wait,” The hitching of your breath is so sweet he cups you in his wide hand in a fluid downslide. The pinching pain of your nails into his wrists has him stilling, lingering. Your neck stretches as you look back as your features pinch in. “I’m…I’m on my…y’know, period.”
He wants to believe you – truly he does – but lies spill from those pretty lips all the time so…
Frustrated whimpers break loose between your bitten lip while Rafe continues down, your head leaning on his shoulder in defeat. Swirling the tip of his middle finger closer to your hole, the touch of roped cotton has him pausing. A string.
Damn it.
Rafe sighs and trails up your slit to lightly stroke your clit once more before he’s slipping his hand out, keeping it low on your warm pelvis. It rises a rumbled chuckle from him, peering down at your weak glare. This close to your face, he can see all the small imperfections that add to the mosaic of your beauty. Gliding his other hand up, he passes a ghost of a touch to your chest before it lands with a curl around your throat. The addition of it pushes you fully into perfection.
Humming and eyes hooded, Rafe draws out a peck to your lips. The warm, soft contact is barely a kiss, just a need to feel you closer that has Rafe relaxing a fraction. “C’mon then.”
Leading you back to the couch, you resume your previous seat that looks more like a nest with a bundle of blankets, a heating pad, and candy there. Your eyebrows shoot up to your hairline when he lays the warmed pad on your lower abdomen, wrapping a fuzzy throw around you then tucking you under his arm, situated to lean against him. Propping his feet on the ottoman, Rafe focuses on the TV which plays some sort of reality show.
Your suspicion rises like steam, muscles strained with preparation for flight. It isn’t until halfway through the show does Rafe feel your body incrementally slacken and by the third, you’ve fallen asleep.
So, if the show happens to stay on there’s no one around to judge.
Rafe likes it when you’re asleep. Can freely stare at you without an icy sneer or bitchy remark to ruin the moment. Just a doll nuzzled deep into the side of him resonating a humming of snores.
His peace is ruined by the vibrating of his phone. He checks the screen.
Ward
With care, Rafe eases up from the couch and repositions your head so it’s against a pillow then heads into the kitchen.
Ward hardly calls him. The proportion of Rafe’s outgoing calls to him weighs heavily unanswered. Taking a deep breath, he picks up.
“Hey, Dad. What’s up?” There’s an eager edge to his question and Rafe hates it.
“Rafe, checking in to see how you doin’?” Ward’s deep timbre carries easily through the speaker.
“Good. I’m good.” Rafe looks at the back of the couch, smiling. “Yeah, I’m actually at my girl –”
“Listen, bud,” His father starts. “You got any plans for spring break? Wantcha come down so you can help me start up this new project. It’s a big one.”
Rafe pumps his fist into the air silently, excitement coloring his voice. “No, yeah, totally! I can do that. I’m up for it.”
“You sure? This is legit business and I need you to have a clear head. That means no…partying when you’re here, ‘ight? No funny stuff while we do this. Can you handle that, Rafe?”
It isn’t the serious tone of his father’s gruff voice that has his excitement evaporating. It’s the impending disappointment there like Rafe has already fucked up. Ward giving him a chance and still expecting failure in the end. A flash of hurt burns through but Rafe shakes it off, tells himself that he deserves it considering his track record.
“You can count on me, sir. I swear.”
A pause. Rafe thinks Ward might give encouraging words. A squeeze of a hand for support, words he’s heard him tell Sarah.
Only it’s: “See you soon.” And that’s that.
The dual beep from the phone lets Rafe know Ward’s hung up, just as a ‘love you’ was balancing off his tongue. He must be busy today.
“Who was that?”
Your voice rises from the couch before your head pops up, hair all fluffy and ruffled. Eyes are a bit puffy from sleep as you blink them open. The late afternoon sun creates a soft yellow hue through the windows, catching onto strands of your hair, soaking into your skin. Rafe is momentarily blinded by the view that it takes him a second to respond.
“My dad.” Carding his fingers through his hair, Rafe smiles as the thrill returns. “He wants me to assist with a new job. This is huge for me!”
Yawning, you stretch and get up from the couch. Rafe keeps his body angled to yours, head nodding along to his babbling as you fill a glass of water.
“If he could see that I’m ready – that I’m ready to get serious, I’ll finally be a part of the Cameron legacy. My legacy. It’s about time he’s bought me into the loop…sure I’ve been tagging along since I could remember but this time, he wants my input. I’ll be able to share my ideas and he’ll have to listen.” He sighs, winded. “It’s too bad I’ll be gone for spring break –”
“Really?”
You’re at the edge of the peninsula, hip leaning against the counter as you take another sip. Your eyes shift from his to elsewhere, fingers drumming an uneven beat. Adjacent to you and with his hands braced on the counter, Rafe slides closer. Spreading his fingers apart to reach out a pinky to stroke your own.
“Don’t miss me too much.”
Scoffing, you swipe your hand away. “As if.” Your face softens a little into curiosity. “What does your dad do again?”
Shock rocks at his heart and it's damn hard to keep it in. He can count on one hand the number of times you’ve shown genuine interest in conversation with him.
“He owns a development company. Operates daily with the construction of buildings and those type of things.”
“Oh.” Your eyes are open and inviting, the slightest tilt in his direction.
Rafe steams on ahead, wanting to keep your attention. “Yeah, he started it all on his own. Born on the other side of the island. Actually made something of himself… unlike those dirty pogues down there now.”
It’s automatic to sneer out the slur. He can’t help the disgust he feels just thinking about that side of town.
One of your eyebrows raises. “Aren’t you, like, fourth generation to attend UNC?” Your chin juts out. “Wouldn’t that mean your family has had, like enough money to go for so long?”
Rafe could crack a tooth from the grinding of his teeth. You’re not the first to connect the dots but you certainly are one of the few to vocalize it.
“Third.” Rafe sucks his teeth in. “The Camerons may have started out on the Cut, but they grew to be more middle class. Only the truly elite are on Figure Eight.”
It infuriates him to no end of that simple fact. That just before he was born Ward was making his way through the Cut and into Figure Eight, the right side of the island. Where he – they always belonged.
Your eyes roll with a tilt of your head. “So, not really a pogue, not really a kook. Just an ordinary man like the rest of the world. Y’know, stepping on that island is like being in a fucked up alternate universe.”
“Don’t be dramatic.”
“I am not!” The stomping of your foot says otherwise. “It’s the worst place I’ve ever been.”
“It’s the best place.”
It’s amusing to watch your cheeks puff in frustration. “Only because of the little notoriety your family has there.”
A slow smirk spreads out like elastic, leaning into you. “Well, of course, sweetheart.”
With anyone else, Rafe would be squashing them beneath his shoe like a bug for a comment like that. With you, however…he finds he wants to know all your thoughts regarding him, the good and the bad. Suck in all the information he can, leach off every emotion you hold for him. The anger, the disgust, the begrudging pleasure.
At the same time, Rafe doesn’t have to hide behind a polite smile or use his charm to peruse you. He’s his real self. The most based form of a soul he struggles to hold onto. Wants to lay the shreds of his soul at your feet like a sacrifice, irrevocably intertwined together.
A peculiar look morphs on your face. Like when you’re working through a difficult assignment. Unmoving, focused but this time on him, which is extremely rare. Usually, you shield yourself away in a layer of ice that solidifies you.
“What?”
“What?” You parrot back, lashes blinking rapidly to break your connected gazes.
“What are you thinking about?” He angles his head low to follow your eyes.
Rafe half expects the typical retort of: ‘You don’t need to know all my waking thoughts.’
“Just…Doesn’t everyone on the island think he was a true pouge?”
So, you have listened to his rants before.
“People remember and think what they want to. Ward doesn’t have to answer to any of them.” His eyes narrow. “Why?”
Your fingers begin to fiddle with themselves. Twisting fingers in knots, squeezing the tips in a random pattern.
Again, he asks. “Why’re you so interested?”
“What? Now you’re gonna be mad I’m talking to you?”
Sass is a defense mechanism you use often; one Rafe finds the most annoying but just as addictive to combat with. It continues in his silent stare.
“I guess… I’m just confused why you would want to work with him so badly?” Your tone goes from curious to condescending within a blink of an eye. “If my dad treated me like that, I’d want to be as far away from him as possible.”
The straightening of his spine is immediate. “You don’t know shit about my dad.”
“Just that he treats you like shit –”
“Shut up –”
“Bet he’d love to know his only son is a psychotic rapist!”
His eyes bulge. A moment of stillness that enraptures the both of you. The bickering was reeving him up to ravish you across the countertop. Now, his mind whirls from the total 180 you’ve pulled on him. Never has he heard you utter those condemning words before. Rafe didn’t think you’d succumb to that dark truth, let alone say it out loud.
A scoff hiccups deep from his chest. “What fucking proof you got of that, sweetheart?” Shifting closer, your face pinches in as Rafe leers, “Your wet cunt cumming each time I force it in?”
It’s a low blow you take with stride, a flinch before you're sneering. “What about that little coke problem of yours?”
There.
There it is.
The real reason you’ve gone down this path of conversation. Nosing your way into things pretty girls like you shouldn’t concern yourself with. Much less with the intention set in your shoulders.
“You trying to blackmail me?” The chuckle comes low, barely a sound of amusement. “Oh, honey,” Rafe mocks. “You didn’t know he already knows?”
The façade of your bravado crumbles, a half step taken back with weary eyes. He tsks and cocks his head back, disappointed. With a sudden swing of his arm, the back of his hand knocks your glass of water to the other side of the room. The shattering of glass and your shriek harmonize, creating the perfect symphony to his sudden charging to you, arms an unknown mix until he shoves you against the wall.
Both hands hold your throat. Nails pierce his skin and scratch along the length trying to find a better leverage. The squeezing doesn’t stop until your eyes are pleading and swimming in the dark waters of fear.
“I may be a fuck up but I’m still his son.” Jerkily releasing you, your head wobbles on your neck. Hands barricading you in, Rafe lowers his head until your noses touch. Your panting breaths feed his next ones in.
“Don’t threaten me if you can’t back. It. Up!” His final warning is yelled, vibrating against your lips as his palms smack beside your head with each pointed word.
Your tears have gone unnoticed until you curl to the side and his lips taste the salty moisture upon your skin. Normally, the sight of them would soften his anger and harden his cock, leading the situation to hot make-up sex.
It isn’t enough. Not today.
Not when his future is within his grasp, his for the taking. Not with the knowledge of you trying to get rid of him, the idea as pointless as it is terrifying. Going to desperate measures when you should be desperate for him.
With a practiced move, Rafe retches your hair between tightened knuckles and pulls until your neck is a long arch and facing him. He ignores the pain-filled yelp and weak hands patting his chest.
“You want me to force you? Is that it, baby, huh?” Rafe hisses.
He hauls you down until your knees fold beneath you. A sick delight like seasickness rolls down to his groin as he growls. Weak defiance lives in your eyes, frowning with his name on your tongue. It's a tug of war between Rafe’s hand and your struggle to rise, keeping your hair taunt. It’s the sight of him unzipping his fly that has you hitting his thighs with a renewed alarm.
“Rafe! Stop it –”
“Keep fightin’ and you’re only gonna make it worse f’yourself.” Rafe warns another yank just to hear you shriek.
Fisting the base of his cock, he pulls it out through the opening. He aims for your mouth, but you cringe making the tip smear on your chin. Rafe tuts, guiding your head right where he wants, and flexes his arm, sure to hold you in place.
“C’mon n’ open up,” he drawls. “Take your punishment.”
Stroking up to the tip, his thumb sweeps along the ridge and tilts his hips forward, hovering just above those plush lips. Tapping the red flesh on your closed mouth, Rafe splays his hand on your chin and squeezes on the delicate bones until your jaw unhinges with a wail to relieve the pain.
Like a serpent striking, he’s pushing in before you can react. Bumping against the roof of your mouth, the rigids of your hard palate make him jerk with sensitivity and envelop the next few inches. The hot, wet rush has sparks crackling up his spine. All that heat and anger spirals down to his cock, the need to claim brooding in his balls. Grunting your name with each gag you give, his thumb caresses the corner of your lip as he watches enthralled.
A part of him wants to take his time. Use gentle strokes to coax your mouth open, train you with patience to swallow his cock just right.
Instead with a mean smirk, Rafe plunges half his cock in. The clenching of your throat makes it hard to go in deeper, the constriction of your resistance inflames his pleasure. The underside of his dick feels the rippling of your tongue like a wave, chasing after it eagerly. Your high-pitched whines are muffled by the weight of him, gargles of air getting blocked as he teases the opening of your throat.
“Can’t believe I’ve gone this long without fucking that mouth of yours.”
Saliva accumulates, thick and slippery as his cock triggers your gag reflex, spit dribbling down your jaw. Your drool coats him to create a smooth glide, lower abdomen tensing, and stuffing further in. Such a pretty sight seeing you like this, gurgling and coughing between the space of your cheeks and his cock. Eyelashes clumped, a darkening hue on your cheeks, small fistfuls of his jeans. Your gagging clinches your throat, locking him in tight before it flutters open.
Rafe allows you to pull back far enough to catch a breath. Coughing out into shaky inhales, lips puffy from abuse and slicked with combined spit and precum. Standing above you like this gives him the most delicious view of your stretched neck. From the tip of your chin to the swell of your cleavage in an expanse of skin that should be carved into marble.
Words tangle as you stutter and gasp, Rafe hushing you with faux tenderness. “I’m going to fuck ya throat now…”
Weaving his fingers once more into your hair, Rafe pushes back into your avoiding mouth. Your fighting ignites a primal urge of take, take, take within him. A bloating want fills his void. Sticky and black as tar that he wants to pour onto you, anoint you with his devoted desecration.
There is little mercy with the pistoling of his hips, ass clenching in pointed thrusts. Mummering encouragements of that’s it, such a good girl and various pitches of your name, Rafe feeds you his length with a fevered urgency. The squelching of his dick opening your throat layers with his low moans, watching as each inch disappears until your lips are kissing his pelvis.
His hips jerk involuntarily as a tickling of pleasure jolts him, your wet bottom lip moving on the sensitive spot just below his base and above his heavy balls. It feels so good and you’re not even actively sucking on him. Just a soft wet home for him to press in farther, another place he has laid claim to.
Fringes of hair droop between his eyes, almost hunched over as he pulls his hips to ram back in. Wet spots glisten on your chest, staining your tank top. A relentless pace fueled by rage and an ache.
“Fuck – ah – I’m gonna cum.” Rafe says hoarsely and tilts his head back if only to starve off his orgasm by looking away. “My good lil’ slut…swallow my cum.”
Angling your head up, Rafe slides his cock down all the way to the root. Grip tightening on your head, he rocks side to side to wiggle in as much as he can. You're choking helplessly as he fucks so deep, it feels like he might reach your heart. One hand skates down to your neck and palms the bulge, holding it there to experience the swell of it. Minuscule thrusts nudge the back wall of your esophagus, his thumb rubs up and down where the head sits.
The scrunching of your eyes and difficult breaths boosts his ego but he needs to see you. Needs you to see him.
“Look at me.” His fingers press in painfully. Eyes flickering half open, the devastation set in your irises kindles his breaking point. “Ugh,” he grunts your name like gravel between his teeth.
Stilling in the depths of you, Rafe cums.
Your muscles intuitively constrict and swallow, suctioning him with hot, white pleasure. The wet of your cheeks is like velvet as you drink his cum.
Seconds or minutes pass before he loosens his hold. Loud choking fits break between your breathing once you're free from his cock, covered in a layer of drool and residual cum. Rafe pets your hair, trying to smooth out the knots he’s made.
You’re still crying as he calms down from his high, face nuzzling into his hip to hide. God, he’s going to get hard again with you looking so pathetic.
“Did you learn your lesson, pretty angel?” Dragging rough fingers through your hair, he bunches a handful and barely pulls, your neck like a snapped cord as your head flops back. An index finger tenderly traces down your cheek to your swollen lips.
“Any more empty threats and I’ll rape your mouth until you pass out.”

🌶️ Chapter 33: The Greatest Treasure 🌶️
The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars

Summary and Details…
Art: Chapter art was created by @giselsann-opencommissions. The full NSFW artwork is available on AO3. I made the mistake of posting it here and got flagged, so hopefully this works with the guidelines. Please do not follow the link or read this chapter unless you are 18+.
Chapter Background and Summary: Sebastian and Kate are at the end of the second day of their adventurous camping trip in the Scottish Highlands. They have had a great deal of time to get to know each other on a deeper level. The two have impressed each other with their skills - Sebastian with his navigation and Kate with all of her perfectly prepared meals. This chapter features conversation about their family holiday traditions, as well as some rather enjoyable time skinny-dipping in a river.
Pairing: 25-year-old, post-Azkaban Sebastian Sallow x Kate Mayflower (my OC)
Content warnings: In general, this story is rated 18+, so MNDI. For this particular chapter - outdoor sex, skinny-dipping, and a couple other mentions of gettin' frisky.
The full chapter is available below the cut; it can also be found on AO3 (link is posted below). Please leave some feedback. A comment, like, or Kudos would be quite motivational. 🥰
Chapter 33: The Greatest Treasure
Placing the blanket, her sketchbook, and an assortment of freshly picked purple wildflowers in her bag, Kate closes it up and reduces its size, sliding it into her pocket next to her wand. Sebastian watches her as she takes a final look at the secret forest clearing, sighing.
“Maybe one day we’ll return here,” Sebastian suggests. “Now, we know where purple heaven is.”
Kate is exhausted by the time they decide to make camp again, about four hours later, just outside the edge of the forest near a river. Her feet ache from all of the walking. Sebastian offers to fill a bucket with hot water so she can soak them while he sets up the tent. She gratefully accepts, finding a large boulder on which to perch. Pulling off her boots and dropping them to the ground, she plunges her feet into the warm water, her eyes closing momentarily in quiet contentment.
As Sebastian sets up the different components of the tent, he removes more and more of his clothing, despite the cool temperature. First, his tan jacket is dropped onto the ground, then his vest and tie, and finally, he lets his suspenders down, clad in only his white tunic and brown trousers. Kate feels a bit guilty for ogling him while she relaxes, but he seems to enjoy it. He catches her staring and fully plays into it, giving her cute little smirks and even starting to flex his arms, causing her to laugh in response.
When he is finished, Kate urges him to take some time to relax as well. They both enter the tent, and Sebastian wastes no time in grabbing a book and flopping onto the bed. She opens her extendable bag so that she can prepare dinner. She disappears down the ladder, and soon, plates, wine stems, and silverware float through the air onto the table. A bottle of wine is next to fly up, followed by a bowl of French salad, a jar of vinaigrette, a loaf of steaming brown bread, and a butter dish. Sebastian’s nose is drawn to attention by the scent of roasted chicken, baked potatoes, and asparagus with a creamy sauce. He sits up and gawks as the platters glide through the air towards the table. Soon, his sweetheart reappears to tell him that dinner is served.
“You know, you never told me if I was right about your favorite season. Is it spring?” Sebastian asks, slicing the warm bread and spreading butter that melts almost instantly.
“Oh!” Kate puts down her fork. “You’re right - we didn’t finish our conversation.” She pours herself a little more wine, topping off Sebastian’s glass as well. “You were initially correct - my favorite season is summer. But after your description, maybe it should be spring!”
“This vinaigrette is delicious,” he remarks. Grinning, he takes another bite of his crisp and cool salad. “I guess I can understand why you love summer. No work.”
“That’s exactly right,” she replies, sipping her wine. “It’s the best time of year. I get a break from Agnes and the students, and I can do whatever I like.”
“So, then… What is your favorite holiday?” Sebastian asks, moving to carve the roasted chicken for them both.
“Christmas,” Kate answers quickly. “Definitely Christmas. I don’t like the cold, but I love spending time with my family. We have so many traditions. I bake biscuits with my family’s cook - gingerbread biscuits with sweet icing. My papa grows a fir tree every year just for the holiday, and my sister and I decorate it as soon as he cuts it down and brings it inside. My mum gives the best, most thoughtful gifts; I feel like I am pretty good at that, too. Maybe I got that trait from her,” she muses.
Sebastian grins, placing a few cuts of chicken on her plate. “I can’t wait to meet her.”
Kate’s smile falters slightly at the comment, knowing that she is unlikely to approve of Sebastian, but she recovers quickly, moving on to a new topic. “And then… my entire extended family on my mum’s side - the Becketts - gathers for a huge party at our manor. My mamma, sister, and I decorate the ballroom with a new theme each year. Last year, the theme was peppermint. We had floating candy canes as props, and there were white and red lights all around the room. When we had dinner, we had a deep red tablecloth, with a red and white striped table runner. We placed a candy cane over each plate. It was so cute!”
“I love Christmas, too,” Sebastian adds happily. “My parents always made it special for Anne and me. We never had a huge party - our family was small. Solomon would join us for the Yule dinner and then promptly leave after dessert. Afterwards, my parents would present us with our gifts - new books and clothes and always one particularly exciting item. Our last Christmas together was when we were nine. They gave us a set of Quidditch equipment and gear. My dad taught us the rules of the game during our last year together. He had been a Beater for Slytherin in his school days, and it was his wish for me to eventually become a Beater as well.” He pauses, his eyes shining. “Which I did. And Anne was a Chaser… until… well, you know.”
Sebastian distracts himself by cutting his chicken into manageable pieces. Kate knows better than to ask him to tell more when he has that look on his face. She gives him a moment to think and breathe.
“I’m trying to remember my favorite gift,” Kate finally says. “But I don’t know that I ever had a favorite, really. It was more about spending time with family for me than anything else. I always loved watching my parents exchange gifts with each other. You could always tell how much they loved each other. My mum would always give a new exotic plant to my papa. He would always pick out something luxurious for her like perfume or jewelry. Those are the kinds of things my mamma likes.” She pauses. “Christmas… I think I enjoy it so much because every activity is just… filled with family, togetherness, and love. And then afterwards, there is still joy - there's the promise of a new beginning on New Year’s Eve.”
It’s quiet for a moment as they continue to eat.
“Someday, I want to share all of that with you, Sebastian,” Kate murmurs. “We can make our own traditions.”
He nods. “I would like that, too, Kate. It’s been a long time since I was able to enjoy the Yule holiday. This year will be different. I can feel it.”
Both of their minds are swimming with thoughts of spending Christmas together this year - and beyond - as they finish their dinner. Kate enchants the dishes into cleaning themselves as she preserves what is left of the bread and chicken for sandwiches another day. For dessert, she brings out bread pudding with a saucer of butterscotch syrup, which she pours generously.
Afterwards, they each select a book to read, laying side by side on the bed. Kate’s eyes grow more and more sleepy, and eventually she casts Divesto to disappear her clothing and slips under the covers. Sebastian does the same and casts a spell to darken the tent. He gently moves Kate closer. Practically asleep, she snuggles up to him. Her arm relaxes across his body, her head resting on his chest. For a long time, he listens to her steady breathing, waiting until she is undoubtedly asleep. Then, he kisses the top of her head.
“I love you, Kate Mayflower,” he whispers so quietly that there is no chance she will hear. “I’m going to marry you. I’m so in love with you, sunshine.”
Sebastian’s eyes begin to close. The comfortable feeling of her body against his calms him, her skin soft and warm.
A moment later, Kate begins to lightly snore, and a smile grows on his face as he opens one eye to glance at her in amusement. Then, he finally falls asleep a few minutes later.
The next morning, Sebastian wakes up first, feeling Kate stir shortly after he opens his eyes. He is curled up against her back, clinging to her.
“Good morning, my love,” he whispers in her ear, then kisses her cheek lightly.
“G’morning,” Kate replies in a voice still laced with sleep.
Sebastian kisses his way down her neck to her shoulder, his morning wood pressed against her arse. Because Kate had complained of soreness the other day, he decides not to push his luck. He’ll let her lead when she’s ready. She turns around to face him and leans in close to kiss his lips slowly and languidly. He softly moans into her mouth as her hand teasingly runs over his cock in a featherlight touch. Before long, Kate’s hand wraps completely around him, and later, her mouth takes over until his seed spills down her throat.
Afterwards, Sebastian is treated to a ham and vegetable quiche, baked pears, apple cider, and toast with butter, cinnamon, and sugar. His girlfriend takes care of it all, clad only in one of his collared, button-down shirts, and he begins to wonder what in Merlin’s name he has done to warrant being served like a king.
“Seb… wait!” Kate cries out after taking just one step out of the tent. She stands in place, looking warily at him and then the river at the end of the path ahead. “What… what if someone sees us?”
Sebastian stops, turning around with a grin. He makes his way back towards Kate. “They won’t. No one comes here, my sun. I’ve done my research. Trust me.” He takes her hands in his. Gods, my shirt looks good on her. “We wouldn’t be making this journey towards the castle, in general, if this area was well-traveled. There would be no point in looking for artifacts and valuables in a place that has already been raided by countless people. This part of the Highlands is warded off to muggles in the same way that Hogwarts is. It’s part of Blackfold Castle’s magic.”
Kate nods, pulling Sebastian’s shirt down as far as it will go. It’s like a short dress on her. “Alright. I trust you, my moon. I’m just a little nervous. I’ve never done this - entered a body of water without clothes on, I mean.”
“Well, there will be no other opportunity to bathe, sweetheart,” Sebastian explains, guiding her forward, “At least, not until we arrive back home days from now. You’ll just have to be a little brave. Remember, I’ll be with you. It’s safe. And, besides, the sun has barely risen…”
“True,” Kate acknowledges as they begin walking together. It’s quite early still. She adjusts the bag slung across her body, carrying towels, soap, and shampoo. “I don’t think I could bear to not bathe for that long. And… for that matter, you shouldn’t either.” She plugs her nose, waving her hand around, and giggles.
“Oh, come on,” Sebastian laughs. “You know you love my natural scent.”
“Not after two days of hiking,” Kate muttered, cackling.
Sebastian smiles, continuing to guide her towards the river. Both the sun and moon are visible at this early hour.
“It’s rather cold out,” Kate notes unhappily. “I can only imagine how unbearably frigid the water might feel...”
“Yes,” Sebastian replies. “But we can use warming charms to make the temperature more comfortable.”
They reach the riverbank. Kate stares as Sebastian nonchalantly removes his tunic and trousers, fully nude with his eyes on her. Noticing Kate’s hesitation, he steps towards her. “It’ll be okay. I’m with you. I’ll help you get warm.” He begins to work at her buttons, and when finished, gently slides the shirt off of her shoulders and arms. Kate’s nipples harden in the cool air. He wraps his arms around her, pulling her in close, his hands resting just above the curves of her bottom.
Letting her go after a moment, Sebastian grabs his wand from the pile of discarded clothing and casts a warming charm. Kate feels the air all around them heat up to a comfortable temperature. Following Sebastian, she cautiously dips a toe into the crystal clear water. Her brows rising, she looks at him in confusion, as the river itself feels like bathwater. He observes her in amusement as she moves forward without any further hesitation.
“It’s a charm intended to heat a certain radius around us. If we stay close together, it’ll be warm for us both,” he explains as he wades into waist-deep water.
“I’ve never heard of a spell quite like that,” she responds in amazement, following him. “You’ll have to teach me. That would really come in handy in winter.”
He gives her a lopsided smile, reaching out his hand so that they can move together towards deeper water. Kate grins brightly in return, accepting it. A moment later, they step forward and almost instantly disappear under water, the bottom dropping out unexpectedly. Gasping, they both reemerge, splashing around. Kate dips back underwater over her own volition, smoothing her hair back and then coming back up to tread water with Sebastian. She begins laughing, and soon, he does, too.
“Maybe let’s swim a little further? Maybe there’s somewhere we can comfortably stand,” Kate suggests.
Before Sebastian can so much as nod, Kate begins swimming away, using a backstroke. “Catch me if you can!”
Sebastian chuckles and takes off after her, but she’s surprisingly fast. He remembers her stories of swimming in the lake near her childhood home and quickly realizes he has an actual challenge on his hands. By the time he comes anywhere close to her, they have traveled a significant way away from where they began and seem to be in a densely forested area. Huge, ancient trees line the river, some roots exposed and underwater.
Finally, Sebastian grabs onto Kate’s foot, and she screeches playfully as she is dragged out of position. He is finally able to find solid footing and pulls her directly to him.
“Got you!” Sebastian yells to Kate’s giggles as he draws her body flush against his. “You’ve fallen into my trap. You can’t escape me now!”
Gazing upon each other quietly for a moment, Kate’s heart drums. “That’s fine… I wanted you to catch me,” she admits. With care, she reaches up to push Sebastian’s bangs out of his face, and he leans in to kiss her.
Their lips meet, gently at first. Her hands join at the back of his neck, her breasts pressing against his chest. Sebastian’s fingers explore the curves of her hips as he deepens the kiss. Her tongue runs along his lower lip, requesting entry, and soon, it dances with his. Kate sighs with contentment as his hand glides past her hips to her arse, squeezing. Out of breath, she pulls back, only for Sebastian to chase her mouth once more. His desire could not be more obvious as he grinds against her. She moans into his mouth. His breathing deepens as one of his hands reaches up to cup a breast, running his index finger over her nipple.
“Seb… Sebastian…” Kate chokes out.
He kisses her feverishly as she hops up, wrapping her legs around his waist, trying to satisfy her own need for friction.
“I want you… so badly…” she whines as he begins to kiss down her neck. He sucks and bites, leaving bruises in his wake as she gasps and arches her back. “I l-love you, Sebastian…”
“Kate… I love you… I want you… I want you more than I’ve wanted anyone… I swear it…” he responds breathily. “Are you sure… you’re up to this?” He opens his eyes to sincerely gauge her reaction.
“Gods, yes,” Kate assures him, thankful he checked in first. “Please don’t make me wait…” She tightens her legs around his waist and pushes herself against his arousal, moving up and down along his thick length as he groans in need. He slips a hand between them, using his finger to massage her clit.
“I’m ready - I swear - I’m ready, my love…” she insists, her lips against his neck. “Are you sure we’re really hidden?”
“Yes, I swear,” he rasps as Kate tears her face away to examine their surroundings.
She notices the tree roots growing outside of the soil, the ones that plunge into the river’s depths. She leans backwards, her legs still tight around Sebastian’s hips, to grasp at the roots. She tests their strength and puts half of her weight into her grip. Her breasts are now on full display as Sebastian guides his needy cock towards her core. With his eyes on her face, he slowly enters her, centimeter by tight centimeter.
“Fuck,” he whispers, fully sheathed. “Oh, fuck…”
Without any hesitation, without giving her a chance to adjust, he begins to thrust into her. His face contorts in pleasure as he achieves a steady pace, taking satisfaction in her whimpering. When Sebastian opens his eyes once more, his view is that of a -
“Goddess,” he gasps. “You’re a goddess. So fucking beautiful…”
Her arms are outstretched behind her, holding on desperately to the tree roots. As he pounds into her repeatedly, her mouth falls open, her breasts bounce, and the water splashes around them. She cries out as his thrusts become harder, faster.
“Bash,” she moans. “I love you, Bash…”
His cheeks are tinged red with exertion as her noises become louder and louder, the splashes increasing in size. His gaze focuses on her face as his grip on her bottom becomes more firm; he can plunge deeper than before. Her wailing practically reaches the level of shouts.
“Please,” she begs. “More… I’m so close. I’m so close…”
Gritting his teeth, he slams into her, channeling all of his energy into his frantic thrusts. He can feel himself coming undone as her walls tighten around him. She screams his name as she finally lets go. Her vision of his face and strong physique goes white; she shudders and moans. Sebastian doesn’t hold back anymore. He spills deep inside of her with a grunt, trembling as he holds himself in place, totally bottomed out as the last of his cum spurts out.
They both pant as they revel in the aftershocks of lovemaking. Kate slowly lets go of the tree roots and brings her hands back to Sebastian’s shoulders, her muscles burning with exertion. Her face very close to his, she kisses each of his cheeks, then his neck. Finally, she presses her lips to his slowly, with all of her adoration.
“I love you,” Kate whispers in his ear as her hands run up and down his scarred back. “Sebastian, I love you. Please don’t ever leave me. I couldn’t take it.”
“Neither could I,” he replied softly, his hand in her wet hair. “I love you, Kate, more than you know. You’re everything to me. Everything.”
Sebastian adds two more pieces of firewood to the stove and then returns to Kate, spread out naked on the floor, nestled among a pile of blankets and pillows. He lays down next to her, taking her in his arms again and swinging her body back on top of his. They kiss in an unhurried fashion, lazy after another round of intimacy.
Sebastian looks at her as though she is a deity. His eyes are filled with tenderness and so much love. “Kate,” he begins softly. “Can… can I speak freely to you?”
Her gaze is filled with trust as she listens attentively. “Of course, my love.”
He smiles. “I know I tell you I love you all the time. I just… I want you to know how much I mean it.” His fingers reach out to brush some of her floral-scented hair, still drying, behind her ear. “Kate… My whole life, I’ve never thought much of love. In Azkaban, there was nothing for me to do but simply survive, and afterward, I never dreamed I would find someone like you. I never thought I would find a woman who might accept me for who I am, despite my past and all of my flaws. But yet… here you are, in my arms, making love to me, making me dream again of an actual future. You make me want to be a better man, and I promise you - I will be. I want to be the man you deserve. I want to make your dreams come true. I want to marry you and have a family with you. You’re my sun. My sun. I don’t want a life without you. I know we haven’t been together long, and I don’t want to scare you, but I feel it so intensely now - I don’t think I could survive a life without you. I love you.” He kisses her cheek, whispering. “I love you.” A kiss to her other cheek. “I love you.” He presses his lips to hers, a tear falling from his eye.
Kate brushes his tear away. “I love you, Sebastian. I mean it. I love you so much. There is no one for me but you. You’re my future. We were meant to meet, to find each other. You are my destiny. I know it. I know it.” She kisses him deeply. “I never thought I would feel love like this. In truth, before I met you, I had begun to give up on it entirely. Sebastian, you make me so happy. You’re the moon to my sun. The world just wouldn’t work without us together.”
Sebastian holds her as tightly as he can, kissing her hair, her nose, her chin, her lips again.
“I will follow you anywhere, my love,” Kate whispers. “I can’t wait to explore the world with you.”
“And today, we’ll really begin to explore,” he replies. “Our first destination is only a few hours’ hike from here. It will be a difficult trek, Kate, but I’ll be with you the entire way. By the afternoon, we’ll search the first cave. Perhaps we shall find some treasure there.” He kisses her cheek again, and his voice deepens with sincerity. “But, to me, Kate, you are the greatest treasure I’ll ever find. No riches, no magical artifacts from time gone by could ever compare to you.” He kisses her hand. “Now, my love, it’s time for us to pack up and go. Let’s explore.”

Prompt #6: Halcyon
Somewhat before ShB and timey whimey timeline that was eventually pruned off. EW references ----------
His attention was on a white mask young woman in the black robe. At first, she was fiddling with a cat headed wand, but in mere moments the item transformed into a long bow. Its cat head at the top and paw at the end. Her purple hair companion then materialized his bow of twisted branches and they both proceed into a competition of shooting down apples by their stems. They laughed at the silliness of it all and then wave to him to join in on the fun. But he huffed out an annoyed reply and stomped off.
-------------
Earlier point in time probably after Camp Dragonhead with the small houses/lookout stations near the main path
“Who was she and why are you such a baka tsundere?” The young summoner shot him a question when they were seated by the campfire. Her strange little carbuncle though contented to be patted kept eyeing him in suspicion. Never once had any of her companions left her alone with him.
“Do not mock me. And stay out of my mind!” "Can't. I don't control the dreams. I had seen spirits acting dumber than you. And dumb spirits who appreciated being reunited with family, friends and lovers.” She passed him a bowl of soup. He stared at it before stirring the orangey tangy stew. Gingerly he took a few careful sips of the flavoury warmth.
“Even if for a mere moment? Should the person no longer remembers?” “You could ask her yourself you know." She indicated the white mage clinging to the arm of the red cloaked assassin. Unless the assassin was sent out for scouting trips or reporting on things. The couple was never far apart, much to the embarrassment of the dual wielding archer who she treats like her son. Which in turn earn the archer further teasing by his comrades. "She’s building new memories with her new-old family. Sometimes certain memories are ingrained so deeply. That one took time to acknowledge the difference though. At least he stopped running away after their third or was it fourth kid answered my summons.” His silence was the only answer for her. “They must have meant a lot to you to walk this path.” “Aren’t you doing the same? For her, for them.” “What else can I do to restore my world? There was nowhere else to go in that white emptiness.” “What else indeed.” He stared into the the bowl.
----------- Note - Yes sir A nice bowl of Emiya's stew (probably Ishgardian Beet Soup that I carry in bulk) would warm you up.
6 kids - Two Emiya boys, an Edlefelt girl(technically an Emiya) and three Einzbern girls by year 6. 7 if you consider a summer Prillya Alt an individual and 8 if future Avenger Khloe is considered as well.
I made it a point to reunite the Einzbern-Emiya family if possible. The parents are from a timeline where they never met but mom has memories of her other self because of her grail connection. the 3 younger girls are from the same timeline(sort of). the eldest girl might be from the official Fate timeline. And the two boys are alternate timeline version of themselves. The girls are very likely shards of each other. Let's not include young-old Gramps-Bro and leave him as Gramps.

Relationships, While Dealing With Health Issues
Dating is hard, marriage is even harder, and making friends as adults sucks. Add health problems into the mix and it gets 10 times worse (in my experience) My marriage is strong, but since our engagement, we’ve dealt with one issue after another when it comes to my health.
I didn’t have many boyfriends when I was growing up, I had my first love, I met him in the 8thgrade, (oh my god typing this out sounds so corny) but I really thought he was my first love at the time, he didn’t give a rats ass about my diabetes. I only saw him at summer camp, and a handful of times after that. We went to the movies, the fair, his house and met his mom and sister and brother. We were a couple for like 8 months and in the 8th grace that is quite the accomplishment. His name was Joey. Oh, how life was so easy back then!
Highschool, I had a couple of boyfriends, never really lasted very long there either. I was so afraid of showing my true self people, most of my high school boyfriends didn’t even know I had diabetes. I made sure to take my blood sugars and insulin shots in the bathroom, and kind of ate whatever I wanted to hide the fact that I really should be counting my carbs. (BAD KARLI) It was the teenage urge to fit in.
Now in my twenties, I went on plenty of dates, had a couple guys break my heart, and couple guys ghost me, and I ghosted a few of them (again, BAD KARLI) and once again I hid the fact that I had health issues. I never thought about oh what if this works out, I am going to have to drop this bomb on them.
I had one serious boyfriend, and I thought to myself that he was it, so I laid it all on the line, I told him everything about myself. He didn’t care, and was super supportive, but what he didn’t know is that I was NOT taking care of myself. I was skipping blood sugar checks, eating whatever the hell I wanted and not keeping track of anything. This relationship lasted 4 months. He broke up with me, by changing his relationship status over Facebook and moving to Kentucky shortly after that. Not because of my health but because of other things, that had to do with me (which I blame my health anxiety for)
When it came to giving my all to a relationship, I just couldn’t do it. I was always so scared that the person would leave as soon as I showed them my scars, and my baggage. Until I met my husband. Oh, my sweet husband.
Frederick is angel when it comes to dealing with my health. When we first started dating, I did the same things I was prone to do, but this man peeled back my layers one at a time. I still was not taking care of myself to the best of my ability, but I was doing better, but slipping up and trying to get back on track. What I didn’t tell him was how bad my diabetes had gotten, I secretly worked on that myself and didn’t ask for help. Hell, I hid it from my parents too. I was in too deep to ask for help, or so I thought.
When I had my near-death experience (read my first blog post and you’ll understand what I am talking about) It all came to light, my husband even admitted to me that he thought about calling off our engagement. I honestly would not have blamed him, not only was I hurting myself I was hurting everyone around me. I knew I was being selfish; I knew I was killing myself slowly. I didn’t care, I just had the undeniable urge to be “normal.”
A lot of my issues stemmed from my lack of education of my disease. I knew what to do when I first got diagnosed, and when my body started changing, I was not taught properly on how to adapt to those changes, and how that would affect my diabetes. Everyone knows that hormones change everything. As my body was changing that meant that I had to start making changes to the way I was managing my diabetes. Like changing my insulin dosages, how many carbs per meal I can eat, which types of insulin I needed to take, and so forth. I honestly didn’t get a lot of my questions answered until I moved to North Dakota, and I was 25 years old.
Another thing that I struggled with was feeling like I was a burden to those around me. I did not want people to feel like they had to “take care” of me. That is why I hid a lot of my issues and tried to deal with them in private. I didn’t want people to worry about if I was ok or not. There is so much that I didn’t tell people and that is one of my biggest regrets in life. I really wish that when I was younger, I took care of myself and trusted in the people around me to help me. I never wanted to feel judged.
Moral of the story is that, embrace who you are. Love yourself and you will attract the kind of love that you give yourself. When you find “your” people, they will lift you up when you’re weak, they will rally with you when you’re winning, and they will be your biggest supporters when things get hard. It took me a long time to realize that, and lots of failed relationships, and friendships.
I’m so glad I found “my” people, and learned to accept myself for how God made me.
Much love,
Karli

Curriculum Flexibility: Non-public schools have more flexibility in their curriculum, allowing them to introduce innovative teaching methods and subjects that cater to the interests and strengths of their students. Kids Vatika, for instance, can adapt its programs to include a variety of learning experiences that go beyond the standard curriculum.
Parental Involvement: Private schools typically encourage greater parental involvement in their child’s education. This can lead to a more cohesive educational experience, as parents at Kids Vatika are welcomed to participate in school events and activities, fostering a strong community feel.
Specialized Programs: Kids Vatika may offer specialized programs that are not available in public schools, such as advanced arts, languages, or STEM activities. These programs can provide young learners with a head start in areas of interest and aptitude.
Facilities and Resources: Private schools often have access to better facilities and resources compared to their public counterparts. Kids Vatika, for example, might boast well-equipped classrooms, playgrounds, and technology that enhance the learning environment.
Community and Values: Non-public schools like Kids Vatika can create a strong sense of community and shared values, which can be an important consideration for families when choosing a school. This can create a supportive atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
Outcomes and Reputation: Private schools often have a reputation for high academic standards and success in preparing students for the next stages of their education. Kids Vatika’s reputation in the community can be a testament to its commitment to excellence in early childhood education.
These points collectively highlight the advantages of choosing a private educational institution like Kids Vatika for early childhood education over public schooling options. The personalized attention and tailored learning experiences can make a significant difference in a child’s educational journey.
Pre-nursery curriculum & Pre nursery school in Panchkula
The nursery and pre-nursery curriculum at Kids Vatika is designed to benefit child development in several key areas:
Cognitive Development: The curriculum includes activities that stimulate problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Puzzles, simple math games, and memory tasks help children develop these cognitive abilities.
Social Skills: Group activities and playtime are integral parts of the curriculum, allowing children to learn cooperation, sharing, and communication with peers.
Emotional Growth: Through storytelling, role-playing, and other expressive activities, children learn to understand and manage their emotions.
Physical Development: The inclusion of physical activities, such as age-appropriate sports and movement games, helps improve motor skills and overall health.
Creativity and Expression: Arts and crafts, music, and dance sessions encourage children to explore their creative talents and express themselves.
Language Skills: Interactive reading sessions, rhymes, and fun language games enhance vocabulary and language comprehension.
By emphasizing ‘nursery places near me’ and ‘pre nursery school in Panchkula’, Kids Vatika ensures that the curriculum is not only developmentally beneficial but also locally relevant and accessible to families in the area. This local focus makes it convenient for parents in Panchkula and the surrounding regions to provide their children with quality early education that lays a strong foundation for their future learning journey.

It's probably fair to at least have a record somewhere on here of where my particular interests in fantasy, ttrpgs, & fantasy ttrpgs largely stem from. Mainly because I have rather strong opinions on various bits of the hobby that stem from how I was introduced to it.
My dad played AD&D when he was a kid. When I was a kid, the computer room closet had a few boxes full of artifacts from that time, including the core rulebooks and some lead miniatures (several of which my dad & his brothers had casted themselves using other minis to make the molds). I spent many elementary school nights once my homework was done (or forgotten) sitting on a stool behind my dad in that room as he played Temple of Elemental Evil or Baldur's Gate, and when he was done my dad would pull down the boxes and show me some of the stuff he had encountered in the game in those rulebooks.
Shortly before my dad was reassigned to Boston for a few years (while the rest of us stayed put for the school system), he offered to run some D&D for the ~11yo me. I agreed enthusiastically, and he rolled up a party for me: paladin, fighter, ranger, cleric, thief, and wizard. Then we sat down and he started Against the Cult of the Reptile God.
Nothing about the adventure is too important here (other than my irrational love for rangers originating in everyone but my ranger and wizard failing rolls and fleeing from a zombie in the dungeon), but two things my dad said have stuck with me ever since:
At the very beginning, my dad greeted me as the innkeeper, and I asked him what I could say. His response was: "What you say is what your character says."
At one point I got hyper-paranoid about traps. My dad rolled everything (including attack rolls) behind his DM screen, and after I checked a door for traps he rolled and said I saw nothing. I claimed that since he rolled dice, there must be traps. He just said "I roll dice to roll dice."
Some years later I attended a week-long coding summer camp a few years in a row. One of those summers, a bunch of the campers who were staying over multiple weeks had started running a D&D game. Several of the other campers thought that sounded fun, and I, being the only one among them who had anything close to an experience playing D&D, volunteered to run something for them.
Mind you, the mechanics of any edition of D&D had been a complete black box for me by this point.
So I got everyone around the table, someone found a dice app we could all download, people got paper, and I went around and asked people what they wanted their character to be. I took someone's idea and told them some weapons they might have and two or three abilities, like the dwarven berserker had a rage of some kind. Then we just played theater of the mind off of d20 rolls plus some basic stats I don't recall, and had fun with that for the three remaining nights.
I eventually picked up 5th edition, and after some false starts through highschool I found Matt Colville's Running the Game videos in college and started a 5e campaign for my friends. We had far too many people at the start (coming out as trans cut the number to a reasonable amount), the first encounter was a near-tpk, the game was linear as hell, and none of us fully knew what we were doing, but in a year the party hit level 20 (spending 75% of that time above 10th level) and slew an evil god.
It's been four years and several partial campaigns since. I've basically got the rules of 5th edition D&D memorized, and have spent most of my time struggling against them. A mountain of systemic 5e homebrew docs lie in the wake of my attempts to shift the system just a bit to fit what it felt like watching my dad play those old crpgs & playing AD&D with him.
In that time I also joined a second group where I got to be a long-term player, which honed in my opinions on what I want from a system as a player. The biggest impact was tactical combat getting massively demoted in my priority list.
I have no loyalty to any mechanics or editions, only to that rose-tinted experience. As I've had time to really step back and evaluate what I enjoy now and what I chafe against, I really started looking into other options for a solution.
I've browsed a lot of ttrpgs for something that scratches the itch, but most tend to fall on one side or another of gritty heroism, either leaning too far from the heroism or too into narrative mechanics. Although, honestly, attribute functions have been far too much of a factor (in second place: existence of classes/playbooks, inventory systems).
That leads to the two years I've spent tinkering with various ideas for yet another fantasy heartbreaker. I call it a heartbreaker because it's nothing too special, but this game isn't meant to sell to anyone. I'm making it for me, and trying desperately to make it teachable to my friends.

Here’s the story as I will tell it to you and since this a deeply personal experience for me. I’ve taken the liberty of poetic licensing to make more palatable for you and then I’ll explain in general terms of how I met Melouk.
There happened to be a 1970 Cadillac Gold with black 'crinkle' top, Miller Meteorite combination.
Someone named Pahokee owned this monstrosity. It was an ambulance. Apparently it was a nice rig and it came out of Nashua, New Hampshire. At point it had been stolen and ended up in a tow yard in Saugus, Massachusetts. The State Police Department never notified the owner that it had been “recovered” by whomever.
The players were Pahokee, Amarillo and Clutch.
it didn't run out of gas. At about 3:00am. One of the battery terminals was sketchy and completely failed on Rt. 3 southbound near Marshfield. They were well off the road and a car width into the breakdown lane. 300 yards of clear highway behind, easy to spot. A couple of Boston College football players stopped and got nose to nose with those involved to try and give is a jump. Amarillo and one of the BC guys were between the Caddy and their car, they think the other car was a Malibu? Out of nowhere a flash and colossal racket and when the dust cleared the Caddy was about a car length and a half down the road, the Malibu was a pretzel and off the road in the median about 100 yards further down the road and a late model something was about fifty feet back of the Caddy with the front end smashed to hell. Clutch ran to the front of the caddy and there was the BC guy who had been between the cars on his back, his legs smashed to pulp below the knees. His friend went right to him and Clutch looked for Amarillo, whose legs were sticking out from under the hood of the Caddy. Clutch opened the hood and Amarillo popped to his feet. "where are my glasses?" he said and reached down to his feet and there they were. He was inexplicably okay. The car behind started burning and Clutch ran across the highway to a tanker truck that had pulled over on the northbound side and asked the driver for a fire extinguisher. He got out of the cab and brought two over and put the fire in the car behind out. The guy whose legs were smashed was in shock and they just kind of held his muscles tight in hope of stemming the blood flow. it worked. He made it and even had a full recovery though it was a long struggle for him. Turns out the guy who was in the car behind was on his way home ahead of going on vacation with his wife. He'd been working late to clear his plate before being away from his job and fell asleep at the wheel. The State Police estimated that his car was doing 80mph+ when it hit the Caddy square from behind. No brakes, no horn, no warning. He did not make it. The Caddy was not as bad looking as the other two cars but it was twisted and bent badly, definitely a write off. That is what happened.
Clutch remembered seeing the grille of the Caddy and the perfect impression of the guy's knee in the metal. Clutch later recalled the other car being a Pontiac and he hit square between the tail lights and went under the bumper.
Sitting behind the wheel of the Caddy, the interior was untouched, save for the doors having popped open because of the bent frame. Not a single piece of broken glass on the entire coach. As he hit under the bumper, the tail lights were untouched and though the headlights were pointed inward, the lenses were intact.
The Pontiac had gone right up to the firewall and lifted the coach in the air, then got 'squeegeed” out by the weight of the falling coach.
It's a miracle that only one guy died in that. That’s how I lost my first husband, Xavier Guillermo Francesco Marcus Tenner Jorde.
When I had met Melouk it was nearly a dozen years later when our paths crossed. He was working in a gig economy as he did have a full time job. My husband and the kids were embarking on our summer vacation at the camp. I needed a pet sitter who would check in our cats, bring in the mail and water the plants and anything else that we needed for our seven weeks away.
I contacted pet sitting service. I for the life of me can’t remember the name but it was a flower I believe. Magnolia? Chrysanthemum? Daffodil? Marigold? Anyway, it doesn’t matter anymore. The one thing I really do remember from that experience was a contract was involved and as myself and my husband read it, it stated clearly that Melouk would be held responsible if anything happened and the owner acted as somewhat of a matchmaker and that’s about it.
Melouk came to my home in order to meet my cats. Feena Mae, Pepper Anderson and Lieutenant Crowley. Don’t ask why they had those names except for Feena Mae. She was an abandoned as a kitten when I found her when I was living in New Orleans. We were listening to The Dixie Cups cover of “Iko Iko” and she’d twitch every time they sang the chorus.
Pepper and Crowley really had no interest in Melouk. What pissed me the fuck off was that Feena Mae apparently liked him. That little half indoors/half outdoors cat who didn’t like anyone became his buddy friend and pal of mine. I don’t know how he got along but I was fucking pissed at this development. As Humpy Go-Cart once said, “It was the start of a beautiful friendship.”
I had to go out of town unexpectedly and I tried to reach the service and I got a frosty reception. Melouk left his private number and he jumped at the chance to hangout with Feena Mae. During my time away, he called me to tell me that Crowley had gotten sick and he took him to his veterinarian to get him checked out.
That’s when I learned that Melouk was working for the two veterinarians. Jhittnu Bhattnagar and Pares Bhattacharri. Both Sikh gentlemen and both natty dressers. Dr. Jhittnu had a very pronounced South London accent and Dr. Pares had the Mumbai accent. They were both great people and great vets. Sadly, Lieutenant Crowley didn’t make it, but if wasn’t for this happenstance we’d never be here talking about myself and Melouk.
We’ve been together since and we’ve been through Pepper Anderson, Cyrano, Janx, Till Eulenspiegel, Othello and lastly, Harley Earl. Now. Now, I’ve got fucking Dachshunds and all because of Melouk. One time I had stopped by his place with my daughter and that’s when we met his gaggle of ankle biters; Lefty, Pancho, Whimsy and Dexter, the half blind evil little Chihuahua. Also he had the neighbors dog, The Brother Levi, another Chihuahua who had the longest legs like chopsticks. The Brother was the best dog ever and when my husband eventually met up with The Brother, well, he didn’t want to admit he had a thing for dogs.
Melouk just adored them and he spoiled them rotten. They all had these high end dog beds. I know. I clocked it immediately when I looked at these dog beds and I know just how expensive they are.
For some inexplicable reason they wormed their way into my heart and I couldn’t believe how much antacid I would need for being a dog owner. Melouk made his own food for his dogs. I mean really? These dogs are bourgeoisie? Yes, they are that and apparently too much for themselves. After all that, Melouk dragged me to his Dachshund breeder and I loathe to admit it but all those Dachshund puppies. I was absolutely gobsmacked by all the adorable puppies I nearly couldn’t speak.
I can’t believe I’m telling you that I’ve got Aramis, Athos, Porthos and d’Artagnan. Yep. I’m a fucking Dumb Ass and not a Dumas. That’s reserved for everyone else. My husband, Cesare Santino, had set up a Nanny Cam for the dogs to make sure they weren’t going to get on our Roche-Bobois leather couch.
Between the dogs and my running a horse barn, I’m surprised that I’m not eating frozen cardboard salt sticks from the local dollar store.
Oh. My. Fucking. God. Here comes Derrick. What does he want? I’ll have to answer his questions. I’m married, I’ve got kids and he’s going to have to talk to me. I’m so screwed. MELOUK! You little shit!

STEM camps in Faifield are often especially stressful for your family's finances—even more so during the pandemic—while we would like our youngsters to possess a fun, rewarding, and safe experience, we do not want to probe our old-age pension to buy it.

cym as fanfic tropes!!
tysm for re-asking this since my dumbass brain decided to delete this post instead of post it <3 idk if au’s count as tropes but it’s fineeeeeee
@confused-as-all-hell a soulmates au. you’re constant and lovely and don’t give up. you love and love and even if that love is not given back you still love. you somehow long for love and somehow don’t believe in it at the same time which is common in these fics. what you give to someone is forever, whether it be love or hatred. i think people should be grateful if they get either. we know how you end and yet you still amaze us, defy us, defy everyone. found family too ask you create things on your own, and put yourself back together when others break u down
@twelve-kinds-of-trouble a super duper fluffy florist au!! full of love and blushing and meet-cutes, you always make this world shine a little brighter, but it’s ok to dim it too <3
@crazy-random-bookworm-17 a modern high school au. you’re light and warm, full of hope and promise for something more. there’s also angst near the ending, bonds breaking apart as you grow older, but there is hope they will grow back together when they meet again <3
@juxtaglomerularapparatus you would probably be a stem au where the characters are working in stem or in uni, while also challenged between the idea of what they want to do in their life. what they want to be. where they want to be it. the struggles of academia but the high of knowing if you’re in it together you can do it. you show me that anything can be done, of how selfless you are and how much i admire that.
@investmentofmyheart hurt/no comfort. you don’t sugarcoat anything. and yknow i rlly like that. you don’t try to be nicer to make someone feel better. that’s not your job. and somehow you provide some comfort knowing that you do these things for a reason. bringing comfort to yourself instead of trying to make others happier. you’re an ending thats right for the characters even if it’s not what the readers wanted. you could also be a gambler au depends
@iambecomeyourvillain hmm. a friends to lovers au where they are friends since they were younger. you’re filled with promise and a sort of care-freeness that are in friend to lovers au’s. there’s tension but there’s also mystery, not knowing what you feel and if it’s ok. the tiptoeing, the staying up late and falling asleep on the couch, all of it is you.
@themoonthestarsthesuriel enemies to lovers who work at the same company. a fic full of hating one another with a spark, eating leftover take out with friends while you bitch about work and your enemy, getting coffee with said enemy, and maybe fall in love with that enemy. you’re full of fun and joy, with a certain twinge of sadness too. i wouldn’t change a thing <3
@emikadreams a fic with a major character death. you show so many good memories, and you make others so happy all the time but your poems give me major character death vibes. that death is to be interpreted, it could even be a part of you. you also give off some coffee shop au as well tho which is slay
@story-scribbler academic rivals to lovers. you just give off those vibes. the tension and not knowing what you feel and getting to know eachother better and. you want to make the world a better place and i think u will <3
@fandomstalker27 librarian au. you love to help others and show others what you find. you love to scream songs with me on tumblr, but that’s only when the library is empty <3
@the-sky-is-full-of-stars a college au. full of in decision and staying up late and meeting someone and seeing eachother on campus and a certain unknowingness of what happens after you finish your degree. you’re fluffy and light and amazing with a twinge of angst.
@saltyfortunes exchange student au. trying to find your footing because the world you lived in wasnt right for you. meeting new people and loving it but also missing what you had back home and wondering what to do.
@thehalfbloodfreak summer camp au. going somewhere you go every year. meeting old friends and relaxing, even if it’s just for the summer. something stable but erratic at the same time.
@wafflesandschemingfaces full on enemies to lovers. jude cardan type stuff. knife to throats, cocky comebacks, the whole shebang.
