icarus burning (roman godfrey x reader)
WARNINGS: stalking, obsession, upir!roman, Roman is a bit of a creep, toxic but sweet relationship?, mentions of sex
summary: sometimes, the deer doesn't know it's being hunted
word count: 2,514
a/n: this was originally supposed to be a requested piece someone asked for, and it was supposed to be a sweet story... but Roman is Roman and I want to do the request PROPERLY, so that's coming up later hihi
It was hard to get a sweet moment out of a guy like Roman, but not impossible— I knew that long before we got involved. Long before that time I started running into him practically everywhere, before he paid for my lunch when I was holding up the queue in the cafeteria because my card didn't work, and before he suddenly started showing up everywhere I was at school. Coincidences.
I first understood that he was into me the time we ran into each other on my Sunday stroll in the city and he offered to drive me home. It was during that drive that I was trapped with him, unable to run away from the notorious high school playboy my friends had warned me about numerous times. He had put his hand on my thigh, just for a few seconds, just to prove the point of some joke he was making— and I knew I was done for.
Roman eventually got a little weird when he realized his feelings were reciprocated, and it got even worse when he realized his infatuation was growing. He'd text me incessantly, as though he couldn't stay away from me for more than a few minutes at the time, and then proceeded to present as the human form of lukewarm tea whenever we met again in person. Maybe it was the fact that he was absolutely terrified of anything real, or maybe it was the fact that he had his playboy image to uphold— I have yet to ask him this, actually.
However, when I started giving him the cold shoulder, not answering his messages, not caring to put much work into our conversations in the hallway, Roman panicked. Completely. And it was during this time that I started to get a little suspicious about our run-ins— they got more frequent, his demeanour got more and more intense, and I could almost sense that he was spiralling.
"Just... don't, like, ignore me," Roman mumbled as we strolled through the bread-section at the store, once again having met by coincidence— right? "I get that I've been a little weird recently, but I'm really trying here..."
"Trying what?" I turned to him, hoping for him to be clear about his thoughts for once. "What are you on about?"
Frustrated, lips pursed, Roman ran his fingers through his hair as his voice got lower. "I'm messing this up already, aren't I?"
There was something different about him today. He was fidgety, anxious— what was happening? I wondered if he felt rejected by my rebellion against his weird habit of going hot and cold. "Messing what up, Roman?" If only he could just say that he liked me out loud. That would make me feel more at ease about liking him back despite everyone around me telling me not to.
Roman clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, nodding to himself, mind clearly racing. "Nothing. Forget it," Without even saying bye, he turned the other way and disappeared into the next aisle, leaving me even more confused than before.
After having thought about our interaction at the store thoroughly, it dawned on me that I hadn't actually seen Roman with an actual girlfriend on his arm. Ever. He was either with a cheerleader he'd change out every few weeks, racing through the cheer-team as though it was a revolving door, or with some random freshman girl who had no idea what she was getting herself into. Now that I really thought about it, I hadn't seen him with either category during the past few weeks we had been talking. I had a feeling that Roman wasn't faking his cluelessness, and that he was genuinely walking around in the dark concerning how to address his feelings and act on them.
Something told me I had to give him a nudge in the right direction.
The next day at school, I found him rummaging through his locker, possibly looking for a pack of cigarettes he had buried beneath all the books he never used. I leaned my back against the locker next to his, waiting for him to notice me. And when he did, I watched his usual serious face melt away and morph into a look of cocky surprise; "Oh my, look who it is,"
"Yours truly," I said, raising my hands in defeat as I suppressed a laugh.
Roman shut his locker, his pupils dilating at a rather obnoxious rate. Was he relieved to see me after our conversation yesterday? "What's up?" he eventually said, his green eyes scanning me without even trying to hide it.
"Just wanted to say something," I had to steady my breathing— was I seriously about to do this? I could crash and burn, an event more damning than when Icarus flew too close to the sun. However, I knew I had to pull myself together, not wanting him to know how nervous this was making me; I wasn't exactly here to stroke his ego any further.
Roman's eyes practically sparkled; "Yes?"
Fuck it. "Okay, so... I like you. And on top of that, I have a feeling you like me too. So I would like it if you stopped following me around and instead took some action," I held my breath, watching the horror wash over his face— did he really think that I'd believe our run-ins were coincidental at this rate? "There's a movie going at eight that I want to see, and it would be nice if you'd join... I'd like that very much."
Roman's lips parted in partial shock— this was definitely not what he had expected me to say. He cleared his throat, straightening up; "Pick you up at seven thirty?"
I had an inkling that I didn't need to give him my address. "Sure," I said, biting back a smirk. "Bring extra cash, by the way. Popcorn is on you."
Roman let out a laugh as he shook his head, clearly in denial. "As if I'd let you pay in the first place," He leaned against his locker, letting out a relieved sigh as he crossed his arms over his chest. "You look nice today."
I did my best to not blush. Later, I have learned from Roman that my attempt was unsuccessful. "I know," I said, trying to hide my growing grin as I kicked off the locker; "Well, I was waiting for you to say that... And now that you have, I'm off to class. See you later, Rome."
Unable to hold back, Roman chuckled as he watched me go, letting out the breath he had been holding.
Surprisingly, my plan had worked. The cinema date was the first of several that ensued, and I rewarded his normal behaviour by texting him back a little more frequently. However, I wasn't completely sold on dating him further, because the weird situationship-phase was probably a little weirder than it would normally be. For instance, there were times where I wouldn't respond for a few hours because I was busy with friends or family, and feel... watched.
There was also that one time where Roman just... didn't let me leave the car after a date. It was quite bad, actually, because it was right in that moment where I felt like I had gotten my period and needed to make a run for it to check. But the doors were locked and the windows shut; his voice dropped and his eyes were weirdly dark when he finally turned to me, suddenly not looking like his usual self. "Could you just stay here... a little longer?"
I couldn't quite pinpoint what was happening, but I noted to myself that he probably hadn't blinked in about three minutes. "I sort of have a curfew," I tried, tapping my fingers against the door, hoping he'd get the point. "It was really nice today, Roman, I had a lot of fun—"
"A minute," he said, almost like a command, voice turning rather raspy. Roman closed his eyes, breathing heavily.
I wasn't sure whether he thought this was romantic or if he had some weird plans for me. "... I think my parents are going to pissed if I don't go soon—"
And it was in this moment that he leaned over and kissed me, effectively stopping my trail of words. I froze, unsure what this whole ordeal had been about, but all my thoughts of reason and concern seeped out of my brain, melting into the kiss against his soft lips. Maybe he had just been nervous to kiss me, maybe that's what that was?
In retrospect, I try not to think about it too much.
And just like that, everything was suddenly sailing smoothly— I would sit with Roman and his friends in the cafeteria, his arm proudly draped around me. He had started to insist that he picked me up and drove me to school every day, which usually ended with us making out in the backseat of his car before class. And after class. And outside my house after the trip back, not letting me leave before he got a 'proper goodbye', as he called it.
However, at the end of the day, he was still Roman Godfrey. The same guy that had probably slept with the whole cheerleading team, along with half the school. That thought had me shuddering, and I did my best to shove it as far back into my mind as possible. Eventually, it started gnawing on me that he would probably be expecting something more of me soon, something more than just making out in the back of his car, and it made me go all Roman on him— also known as cold and distant.
"What's wrong?" he said, staring at me from the driver's seat after he had parked at school. "You've been a little weird... Did I do something?"
The situation was starting to make me feel borderline bad. I didn't like having this conversation in his locked car. "No, Roman, it's nothing... I'm fine,"
This was seemingly not the right answer— later that day, I was cornered in an empty stairwell on my way to class. Roman's eyes were so incessant, so strikingly green, I couldn't help but feel nervous. "Stop saying everything's fine when I can feel that it isn't," he said, keeping his voice low in case anyone would hear. "It's driving me nuts, you know me."
I gulped, needing to look away to collect my thoughts. I hated that I had started to avoid being alone with him, just in case he'd ask or try to initiate anything. In reality, I simply wasn't ready, and the fear of him discarding me after we were done was enough for me to postpone it. I also had a weird feeling that if I gave myself to him in that way, that he'd just never... stop. Roman would never get enough— he had already claimed me in every other way possible. "I just... feel like you want more from me than I'm willing to give at the moment,"
"What?" Roman's brows drew together in confusion. "That's just downright cryptic. Care to explain like a normal person? Are you breaking up with me or something?"
"No, no!" I definitely didn't want that. Feeling the tension grow, I ground my teeth together. "It's just... Have you noticed that you try to take off my shirt every time we make out?"
It was clear that Roman disappeared deep into his mind for a moment, scouring his memories. "I'm... sorry? I'll stop, I guess,"
I let out a rather big sigh, feeling my anxiety rise. "I know you might be used to a certain linearity and timeline with a lot of things when you were with other girls, but that's... not how I work," Finally looking up to meet his gaze, I chewed on my lip, awaiting an answer.
However, Roman looked like a big question-mark. "I suppose?" It was clear that he was lost.
I wanted to shrink into a tiny bug and get stomped. That would probably feel better than whatever this feeling was. "I need us to wait with... that,"
"... What, sex?" The way he followed up his words with a laugh made me even more anxious.
"Yeah," I mumbled. "And if that's a deal-breaker for you, then you have to tell me right now. Because I'm honestly not too keen on getting my heart crushed—"
My nervous ramble was cut off when Roman leaned down, capturing my lips in a rather passionate kiss which probably shouldn't have taken place in a school. "It's fine," he whispered against my lips, running his cold, slender fingers through my hair. "I don't care. I just care that we're okay. Because... we're okay, right?"
Smiling, I snaked my arms around his neck, my nose nudging his. "Of course we are,"
"Good," Roman beamed, letting out a sigh of relief. However, his smile wasn't there for long— his eyes rounded out, getting serious, as though he was about to deliver some very, very bad news. "But... just so you know, when a guy doesn't have sex for a very long time, his dick turns purple and falls off. So when you're ready for it, the chance might not be there... Just be aware of that."
I watched him crack up, giving in to a rather loud laugh which resulted in me giving his arm a playful smack— this guy, honestly.
And we continued to be okay for a very, very long time. More than okay, actually; it was a continuous walk on cloud nine, and I was officially convinced that he was the man for me. Hence why I decided to put him through the most nerve-wracking situation a teenage boy could be thrown into— meeting the parents.
I was currently fluffing his hair on my front porch, watching his knuckles turn white around the flowers he had brought for my mother. My sweet, sweet boy. "Don't be nervous," I cooed, getting up on my toes to kiss his cheek. "It's just dinner."
"Sure," Roman breathed, clearly spooked. "Dinner. Just dinner. Food."
I couldn't help but chuckle— he was so damn cute sometimes, and he had no idea. "After this is over, we can go up to my room and cool off, okay?"
Immediately, Roman's pale face turned a little rosy. "That's a consolation,"
"Sure is," Before I turned to knock on my door, I pulled him in for a kiss, stroking through his hair. "You'll be fine, Rome, I promise. I adore you, and they will too."
Roman let out a shaky breath, smiling back at me. His eyes had rounded out at the words of affirmation; it was clear to me that he was absolutely smitten, and he didn't have to speak for me to know what he was thinking— you're everything.
I tried not to think about the fact that it was sort of concerning how much he was into me. That I was his actual everything. How he'd sometimes tighten his grip in my hair to the point where it sort of hurt, burying his nose against the top of my head as he held me closely... and how it only happened when I was on my period.
I didn't care.
... For now.

PREVIEW
It's been two months since a handsome stranger started showing up at your bakery to buy an espresso and two loaves of bread. Nothing more, nothing less. You've never told anyone, but since his first order, you've been practicing new types of bread dough for him to try. He always comes in sweaty, and you believe it's from a run, but he's always so kind and always leaves a good tip. Unfortunately, every time you try to start a conversation with him, he disappears.
"Hello, is anyone there?" You hear a male voice coming from the entrance of the bakery. It must be the handsome stranger whose name remains a mystery. In his cup of coffee, at least, he asks for the name Barnes to be written on his order.
"Just a second…" You speak loudly so the person at the bakery entrance can hear. Unfortunately, you just put the bread in the oven, which means you're probably covered in flour. Not to mention, the Barnes guy has never shown up this early.
"Sorry to bother you, I just wanted to know if you have your famous bread and coffee. I can't start my day without stopping by here." Finally, you make it to the entrance of the bakery. It's him, Barnes with captivating blue eyes and a charming smile.
"It's no bother at all, but unfortunately, I just put the bread in the oven. But I can prepare the coffee right now. I also made a cake. If you'd like, I can offer you a slice. And if you're willing, you can come back at the end of the day; I'll be trying a new fennel bread recipe that you might enjoy." You say, smiling gently at Barnes, who looks at the watch on his wrist. He's dressed formally today, which makes him look even more handsome.
"I will accept your offer to come at the end of the day. If you want to separate the piece of cake; I will gladly take it with me." He appears to be in a hurry as he heads towards the exit. You watch him, shaking your head positively.
"I'll separate them for you." You say as you watch him walk away. For the rest of the day, no matter if you were baking cookies or making a cupcake, you thought that at the end of your day; you would see Barnes.
You're distracted tidying up your counter, saving some leftovers to take home, maybe offer to your neighbors. In reality, you could already be at home but decided to do some extra cleaning at the bakery before leaving. Not because you want to cleaning everything for the thousandth time but because you want to give what you set aside to Barnes. The movement in the bakery was good, its oldest customers continue to return and bring more customers. While you're distracted, something makes a huge noise at the entrance.
"What the hell is going on here?" You shout towards the door. Next thing you know, Barnes is hurt. His clothes are torn, it looks like he was attacked. And he's standing inside your bakery, bleeding on the floor.
"You told me to come at the end of your shift. I'm sorry I'm late, I was finishing up some unfinished business." Barnes says as he tries to stay upright. You approach him, helping him sit down.
"I know we don't know each other very well, but you look terrible." You say, touching his forehead lightly, which seems to be quite bruised.
"I'm bleeding on the floor of your bakery, you can call me horrible all you want." He says smiling but then groaning in pain.
"Shouldn't we call the police or something? Maybe at least go to the hospital…" you try to suggest without success. Barnes shakes his head negatively while groaning a few curses. You worry about what kind of trouble he must be in to not want to do any of that, but suddenly it occurs to you that you have a first aid kit in the bakery's pantry.
"I know I'm asking too much, but at the moment I can't answer any questions or accept any suggestions. I only came here because I feel you like me enough to help me." Barnes speaks with some difficulty as you help him with his injuries. You're still processing the fact that he thinks you like him. While you're applying some bandages, you end up having to tear his shirt to clean the blood.
"Just tell me one thing, are we safe now?" You ask nervously as you put some bandages on Barnes. He looks at you, then holds your hand. You didn't even notice but your hand is shaking.
"As long as you're with me, you'll be safe." Barnes speaks in a seductive way but you try not to think of him that way. Even while he's injured, shirtless on the floor of your bakery. However, before you can answer anything, you hear a gunshot and suddenly, a bullet passes through the entrance to your bakery.
"I know the timing is terrible but are you sure?" You ask as you see the pained expression on Barnes' face turn into one of anger.
"Stay here, I'll sort this out and be right back." Barnes says holding your face lightly, which is the closest thing to intimacy you've had in a while but you could only think that he was intruding towards death. You watch him grab one of his best knives and head towards the front door. You are crouched down in an area a little further away from the entrance to your bakery. You hear grunts, some swearing. The guy who shot threatening Barnes, and Barnes not backing down. You hear the sound of another gunshot and then what sounds like someone using the knife. You grab the fire extinguisher on your wall and prepare to hit whoever walks through the door. And as soon as you make a move to hit the person, you feel the person holding you back.
"That would have been more useful with the bandit in front of your bakery. But it's good to know that you know how to defend yourself." Barnes says smiling pretentiously. After you dropped the fire extinguisher on the floor, Barnes fell into your arms. And all you can think is that you couldn't imagine ending your night with him in your arms like this.

Hey I got a request for Tommy Shelby
So basically Tommy is a single dad to a girl who is 2 so basically Tommy took you to Arthur for the day and all you was doing was crying in Arthur arms and nothing was stopping you crying when you only stop crying when tommy come back and when you got home all you want to do was be hold by Tommy and would cry when you got put down then at bed time all you did was cry when Tommy put you down so Tommy let you sleep with Him hope that make sense
Tommy Shelby- Clingy Daughter
12th March 1924. A day Thomas Shelby will never forget. There was a knock at the door, when Tommy opened it up there on the door step bundled up in a basket was a tiny baby, fast asleep. There was a little note stating that Tommy is the father and that the mother can't support a baby and that she needs a name.
2 years later and Tommys baby is now a toddler and super clingy, which doesn't help when Tommy needs to head off to London for the day. That's why Arthur offered to have YN for the day, what could go wrong right? Arthur knew how to look after a child, he helped take care of his siblings after all and YN knows who Arthur is.
"Ok YN uncle Arthur will look after you, I'll be back later for bed time ok?"
"No daddy" YN cries as her father places her in her uncles arms "daddy home"
"Later. I love you" Tommy gives YN a kiss on her head "she'll be fine once I've gone" tommy directs this towards his brother before leaving for the car
"Daddy!" YN cries even louder as she watched her dad get into the car and drive off. She tries to wiggle out of her uncles arms. Arthur shuts the front door and places the 2 year old on the floor who just stands crying at the front door
"Come on little one. Why don't we go get some breakfast?"
"I want daddy"
"I know YN. Daddy will be back later"
"No now!" YN stops her foot crying. Arthur just knows today is going to be a long day.
Arthur tries all day to stop her crying, giving her cuddles, food, playing with toys but the only time he got a break from the tears is when she cried herself to sleep, but the moment she wakes up the tears start all over again. Finally Tommy arrives at 6pm. A disheveled Arthur answers the door with a screaming 2 year old
"Shhh hey what's wrong?" Tommy says taking the 2 year old into his arms who immediately settled down with just the sound of sniffles coming from the toddler
"Been crying all day. Tried to give her food but she wouldn't eat and threw up from crying so much"
"Sorry Arthur, I didn't think she'd be this bad"
"It's alright brother, one of those things" Arthur shrugs
"Well I best get this one home and something in her. Next time I need to go to London I'll take her with me"
"No it's fine. Just needs to get used to you not being there. Her mother abandoned her, she doesn't have a mother. It's just you and her. I'll see you tomorrow"
"Alright. YN say by the uncle Arthur"
"Bye" she sniffs into her fathers neck with a little wave behind her.
"YN I need to put you down to make you food"
"No daddy" YN shakes her head sobbing once again "stay here"
"I'm not going anywhere"
"Mr Shelby would you like me to make something for her?" Mary asks
"If you could"
"And what would the little one like hmm?"
"YN what would you like Mary to make you?"
"Biscuits?"
"You can't have biscuits for tea. How about bread and soup?" Mary suggests
"Ok. Then biscuits?"
"Yes then a biscuit" Tommy says hugging the little girl closer to him. She's always been clingy but never this bad.
While Mary gets on with making YN some soup Tommy takes his daughter into the living room and sits her on his knee while he reads her a story.
Bath times and bed time has never been so difficult
"YN it's bed time"
"No I stay with you daddy"
"YN I'm here I'm not going anywhere but you need to go to bed" Tommy places YN in her bed once again and starts to walk out of her room
"Daddy!" she screams getting out of bed for the umpteenth time
"YN, daddy's tired and wants to go to bed"
"Daddy's bed" Tommy is frustrated and gives in to his daughter, picking her up he takes her into his room with him. Tommy places her in his bed before getting changed himself, when he returns the 2 year old is fast asleep. 1 night won't hurt he thinks to himself. Seeing his daughter so upset today broke his heart, he never wants to see her like that again. He will always protect his daughter even if that means she sleeping in his bed just because she's upset.

notes: post no way home.
{ gone, today | i might just see you around | it hurts but i understand | if you can't find another reason not to stay }
there was a cute guy that often stopped by your diner, exuding a type of loneliness that kept you achingly captivated.
he orders simple meals, often opting for a lighter meal consisting of a simple sandwich with a bowl of whatever the soup of the day was. with your workplace being a diner that remained opened for 24 hours, for once, you were happy that your usual shift was the graveyard shift.
without fail, he would come in around 2 to 3am, wearing a hoodie with unexplained cuts and bruises dotting his skin. and despite the minor injuries that were kept sustained against his face, it didn't do much to mar his soft and gorgeous features.
each time you would serve him, he would give you that same, sad smile. his kind eyes always appeared grateful before digging into his meal, yet it was clear that he was keeping many parts of himself hidden from you.
you had a sense that... that there was so much more to him than meets the eye.
why was it that every time he would enter the diner, he was covered in fading bruises?
why was he always alone, never once coming into the diner with a friend or family member?
and why did you have this inexplicable urge to comfort him each time he would gaze out the diner's window, his unblinking gaze staring at the cityscape with some unknown emotion you could never quite place.
you wanted to get closer to him-
to find out all the mysteries he had to offer.
and you were finally going to do something about it.
it was like you had become so accustomed to his presence, with you getting ready for work each night whilst sporting a gentle smile on your face. once your uniform was on, you step out of your apartment and began your trek towards the diner, your strides having a bit of the bounce to them.
your walk to work was uneventful (as per usual), with you clocking right at 10pm, ready to relieve your coworker of her shift as you take her place, taking on orders for the new patrons that surrounded the diner.
you kept busy, doing your best to not look at the clock as the hours ticked by, your heart practically pounding as it neared 2am. as if responding to the late hours, the amount of customers you served began to dwindle down, leaving you alone with the cook as the diner was now empty.
with a hum, you begin wiping down the tables, eyes trailing over to the clock once more, seeing that the time read 2:05 when you hear the sounds of a door opening.
you look back to see him, flashing you a sheepish smile as his brown eyes met with your welcoming gaze. he spends a few seconds admiring you, shaking his head while fighting back a blush. a cough was heard coming from him before he looks away from you.
walking with a comfortable pace, you allow yourself to stand next to him, brushing back your hair while taking out your pad and pen.
"hey peter, your bruise looks a lot better today."
you greet him by stating his first name, shivering a bit when he lets out a hum in response. those gentle vibrations heard coming from him was enough to make your knees a little weak for him.
"uh, thanks... i told you before that i can heal pretty well."
you nod and meet his gaze, your smile kind and genuine. "what can i get for you?"
"what's the soup of the day?"
"tomato bisque."
"then i'll take a grilled cheese, with some coffee, please."
"got it, peter."
you felt yourself smiling when you turn away from peter, already replaying the interaction you just had with him within your mind. he was just so sweet, and you felt your desires to get to know him growing in response.
you linger against the cooking area, waiting by the window for the cook to finish making peter's order. paul looks at you while toasting up the bread on his grill.
"what's this about? you hardly linger close to me when i'm trying to work." paul lets out a grunt before placing the cheese on top of the slices, combining them together into the perfect grilled cheese.
"i know i know, but... this guy's special to me." you admit to the cook with a whisper, a familiar heat felt against your cheeks. "so i was wondering... could you make me a sandwich, too? just so i can talk to him a bit?"
paul lets out another grunt, "don't see why not. we ain't busy or anythin' so sure. get your boy, then."
you can feel the heat spreading across your cheeks as you waited for paul to finish. within the next 10 minutes, he places both of your orders on a tray while giving you a wink. you smile brightly at him, taking the food while making your way towards peter's table.
peter looks away from his phone, setting it off to the side as you caught a glimpse of the news article he was reading.
SPIDER-MAN STRIKES AGAIN! STOPPING AN ARMED ROBBERY AT THE FIRST AMERICA BANK!!
"here's your order pete. and oh? i didn't peg you to be a fan of spider-man."
your voice was casual as you sit across from him with your own grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup. peter's blushing face and sudden gape made it clear that your question made him feel flustered when he quickly reaches out to shut off his phone, hiding the news article from you.
"ah, y-yeah, i was just curious about him, t-that's all." his voice appeared crack, but he was all too eager to change the subject when he sees you sitting across from him with the same meal.
"oh, you're eating too?"
"yes...uhm, i just wanted to keep you company, i guess?" you admit to him with a shy smile, trying to hide your shyness when biting into your own grilled cheese sandwich.
peter's eyes were seen furrowed for a brief second before his expression changes into a sweet smile. "thanks, i think i could use your company, actually."
that was all that needed to be said when peter begins to enjoy his own meal, biting into his grilled cheese dipped into the tomato bisque. he sneaks glances at you, and you could tell that he wanted to say so much more than what he was actually letting on.
you strengthen your resolve and decide to guide the conversation first. "this may not be any of my business but... i notice that you've been coming here for a while."
"mhmm." peter looks back up at you, and you notice how his rich, brown hair falls across his forehead, making your hands itch with the urge to gently brush it back.
however, you were able to fight back such urges, keeping your hands tightly balled up against your lap in response. "s-so, what i was wondering is... why are you always alone?"
you allow your question to linger within the air, sensing that it was an uncomfortable question for peter to try and answer. his hand seemed to grip tightly at the spoon, and you watch when he seemed to bend the metal in response.
your eyes go wide when peter suddenly stands from his seat, running a hand through his hair as he grabs his phone reached into his pockets to get out his wallet.
"sorry, i have to go."
he grabs a few bills from his wallet before tossing them on the table, filling you with a guilt when you look back at his half-eaten meal. "wait, peter, i'm sorry. i didn't mean to-"
"keep the change."
that was all he said before he quickly leaves the diner, making your heart turn cold as ice was felt coursing through your veins. upon hearing the commotion, paul walks out of the kitchen right as peter left. confusion was seen in the man's gaze when he looks down at the table, seeing the completely bent spoon while letting out a whistle.
"damn, did he do that?"
yet you couldn't bring yourself to answer him, simply taking both of your half-eaten meals, being filled with a guilt for potentially overstepping your boundaries with peter.
just who are you? those were the thoughts that lingered within your heart and mind, filling you with an even deeper yearning to get a better understanding of the mysterious young man who seemed to have built a wall around his very heart...
{ ... }
your shift didn't end for another hour, yet paul could sense how distracted you had become and let you off early. he tells you that the waitstaff for the morning shift was on their way and that you could go home to cool off.
"i'll let 'em know you weren't feeling too well, so you just focus on getting some rest."
you give him a grateful smile, clocking out while grabbing your belongings together. "you're the best, paul."
he lets out a rich chuckle while stating your name, "you're damn right i am. be careful going home now, okay?"
with one last nod, you give him a wave and got out of the diner, taking in the cool, early morning air as the sky steadily began to lighten in response to the incoming sun.
"hey."
a soft voice stops you from stepping forward, and you look behind you to see peter himself waiting off to the side. he wore an apologetic expression on his face, adjusting his hoodie while coming closer to you.
"mind if i walked you home?"
you shake your head eagerly at peter, "n-no, i don't mind at all."
he smiles at you, taking a stance right next to you as he kept up with your casual pace. you look back at him and smile.
"were you... waiting for me?"
"yes." peter admits with a sigh, running a hand across his hair once more, making them appear much messier than before. "i felt like an ass for how i treated you back there."
"n-no! don't be, i...i may have gone too far with such a question. a-and, i'm sorry."
"i'm sorry, too."
admittedly, your heart felt so much lighter with your respective apologies stated clearly, no longer feeling the guilt when you continue walking back to your apartment with peter by your side.
you spent several seconds in silence when his voice was heard cutting through your thoughts. "i've lost so many people, that's why you always see me alone."
your heart clenches when you could detect the unbidden sadness in his voice. "you have, peter?"
he doesn't meet your gaze, keeping his eyes against the skyline when he nods at you. the more you looked at him, the more you could see his soft brown eyes shimmering with unshed tears from beneath the sunlight.
"yeah, i have..."
you stop walking, not liking the fact that peter was suffering so much. his loneliness truly didn't seem intentional at all. wishing to change the subject for him, you sigh and lighten up your tone.
"you know, i've been curious about the bruises i see on your face sometimes..."
peter stiffens in response to your observation, but you quickly hold up your hands in response.
"i-i mean, i don't think much of it, i just thought you were into boxing, or were an mma fighter or something."
your words succeed in making peter burst out in a laugh. "what? are you serious? an mma fighter?"
"ah, you're laughing at me?!"
you join in with him, actually feeling so relieved that he had relaxed, even just a tiny bit, while talking to you. he continues to laugh, and you allow yourself to bask within the sounds of his joy.
"sorry, that's kind of flattering, but i may not be bulky enough to be an mma fighter..." peter purposely trails off, continuing to walk with you when you see a wistful smile painting at his features.
"but that isn't to say that i can't fight."
you freeze and stop walking once more, your eyes looking up at him with intrigue. peter also stops walking again, appearing like it was taking him a herculean effort to not laugh at his very moment.
"care to elaborate, pete?"
he lets out a sigh of your name before shrugging. "nah, i don't think i will. i like keeping you on your toes."
that was all he says before walking ahead of you, making you gasp as you ran towards him, telling him how mean he was being to you while he laughs, seeming to enjoy this banter with you as he continued to walk you home.
{ ... }
your mind was constantly filled with thoughts of peter, and you couldn't seem to sit still whenever your daydreams with him would take over.
after walking with you to your apartment, you traded numbers with him and end up texting him on a near daily basis. he was charming, funny, and had to be the most attractive guy you had ever met. your happiness was so infectious that your co-workers take note of the change in your attitude, seemingly happy that things were going well for you and peter.
today was your weekend off, and you decided to spend it out in the city. you texted peter once more early in the morning, but had yet to receive a reply back from him. not thinking much of peter's sudden inactivity, you went on with your day.
you thought about your plans, and wondered if you wanted to head to a café, or your local bookstore to treat yourself to something nice. and maybe, if peter ever replied back to you, you could invite him to join you with whatever activity you wished to do.
that was all that filled your mind when you waited at the stoplight for your turn to cross the street. you stopped checking the messages on your phone and placed it back within the safety of your bag. when you saw that it was safe for you to walk did you finally cross the road-
however, the screeching sounds of tires quickly approaching you makes you freeze in response.
as if time had gone into slow motion, your eyes take in the quickly approaching car, seeing a couple arguing in the front. the driver was not paying much attention to the road, still screaming at his girlfriend as your eyes take in the close proximity of the car.
within the next seconds, the woman sees you and screams, "WATCH OUT!"
yet before the car could make its grave impact into you, you felt your body being flung away as a pair of powerful arms rescues you from the speeding car.
you were hit with an intense vertigo, filling you with a dizziness as your eyes take in the passing scenery of the city. you were so close to puking-
yet within the next second, you found yourself safely planted against a rooftop.
your steps were unsteady as the same pair of powerful arms that saved you continues to wrap around you.
"hey, hey, look at me, are you okay? you're not hurt anywhere, are you?"
your blurry eyes finally look forward, seeing the familiar mask of a vigilante, taking in the spider motif seen against his skin tight suit. you could tell that he was staring at you with concern, even with the way his mask covered the entirety of his features.
the adrenaline slowly simmers down, bringing you down to your knees as you kept on trembling within spider-man's arms.
"oh my god, i was about to- i-i nearly-"
before you could even process how you were so close to dying, you felt spider-man wrap his arms around you, bringing you closer to him as you felt a pair of soft, chapped lips pressing desperately against your own.
the way his lips perfectly slot against yours was enough to make your anxieties go away. you feel the way his hands delve into your hair, pressing one last deep kiss against your lips before pulling away from you.
"ssh, don't even think about it anymore. you're here, safe and sound in my arms. just breathe... just breathe..."
spider-man continues to distract you, holding you in his arms as he walked closer to the edge of the building. his grip on you was tight when he brushes back your hair, pulling down his mask once more while giving you a chance to calm down.
when your breathing goes back to normal, becoming even while losing its hyperventilated quality did he softly ask you, "do you want me to take you home?"
you were still recovering from the shock of his kiss and your near death experience, only managing to give him a nod in response. and despite how you couldn't see his smile, you could hear it in his voice.
"you just hang on to me as tightly as you can, okay? i won't ever drop you, and all you need to do is just trust me."
you give the masked vigilante a nod. "yes, i trust you, spidey."
wrapping your arms around him, you hid your face within his neck as he used his webs to travel quickly through the city. his webs lands with an accurate precision against the buildings, yet still remained durable enough to hold his and your weight. shutting your eyes, you bask at the sensation, feeling as though you were flying from within spider-man's arms.
in just a few minutes, he lands at the front of your fire escape, unlocking your window with his skilled hands as he climbs into your apartment with you.
your eyes go wide when a sudden wave of clarity hits you, feeling spider-man go into your room when he sits on top of your bed with you, this time, his body was trembling.
"spidey-"
he ends up holding you tight, wrapping his arms around your back while hiding his face within the curve of your neck.
"i-i thought i lost you... f-fuck, i thought you were going to be gone from my life, too."
your heart begins to pound, recognizing that broken quality of his voice when you place you hand behind spider-man's head. the hero allows you to pull his face away from you, not even stopping you when you completely lift up his mask-
revealing peter to you.
you caught a glimpse of his bloodshot eyes for a brief moment when he suddenly kisses you again, allowing you to taste the saltiness of his tears as he crushes your frame closer to his body. sobs were felt raking down his form when you gently kiss him back, all while whispering gentle words of comfort to him.
you allow him to cling to you, letting his tears fall freely when you lay back against your bed with him. as he continues to cry against your neck, allowing those warm droplets to cascade down your skin, your heart became softer for him. making sure that you were holding him tightly against you, you begin to draw invisible circles around his back, waiting for peter to catch his breath.
after several minutes, you felt him pressing a kiss against your cheek, catching your attention when he frames at your face.
"sorry, for giving me a minute to... to let it all out."
he rests his forehead against yours, and you were filled with a soft affection for him, running your fingers through his hair in response.
"did you want to talk about it."
"eventually, i will." peter manages to tell you in a breathless whisper. "eventually, but not now."
you hum in agreement, falling back against your bed while still gently running your hands against his soft hair. "take all the time that you need, peter. i'll be here... i'll always be here for you."
peter lets out a sharp inhale, now strengthening his hold on you when he slowly admits to you.
"you're the reason why i came to the diner so much."
your heart nearly bursts in response to his words, making you meet his gaze once more, seeing the love he had for you shining in them.
"really?"
"yeah...really." peter smiles while brushing the back of his hand against your cheek. "when i first came to the diner, i wasn't expecting to see such a cute waitress; one that stole my heart at first glance."
he sighs and leans forward to kiss your cheek, the action feeling quite soft and sweet to you. "at first, i just wanted to protect you; to make sure that you were safe while working. but... the more i observed you, the harder i fell for you."
peter meets your gaze once more and shakes his head, "that night, when you asked me why i was so alone all the time, i wanted to come clean to you right then and there, b-but, i had to stop myself. i knew that when i finally told you, then it would need to be the full story, with me not hiding a single thing from you-"
you cut off his words with another kiss, basking in his tiny moans of your name before pulling away from him.
"you don't have to worry about telling me, peter. i won't ever leave your side, so... you have all the time in the world."
you go back to wrapping your arms around his back, letting him rest his head against your shoulder when you reassure him once more, "i won't ever leave you, and i'll be happy to listen to your story when your ready."
basking in the way his body loosens up, you allow peter to wrap his arms tightly around you, speaking with a bit of a tremor in his voice when he asks you, "do you promise?"
"i promise." with your oath lingering in the air, you press your lips against his forehead, ready to stay by his side as you smiled to yourself, feeling happy that you managed to break down his walls- slowly becoming the absolute love of his life.
{ and as these days go by | they can't change how long we've waited for | a love that's more ... a love that's more. }

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
I spend most of Christmas Eve in bed relaxing and catching up on much-needed sleep after days of long, busy shifts at the cafe paired with hours of wedding and party planning, all while trying to stay in contact with my intriguing new phone pal. But much to my dismay, and appreciation, Stella refused to let me stay alone through the night. She insisted I come over for dinner and stay for Christmas. As in her words, “It would be an atrocity for my best friend to spend the holidays alone”. So, I had no choice but to kindly accept her demand.
As I walk towards the subway station my phone starts buzzing in my jacket pocket. I smile hoping it’s Jensen or Stella, but instead, it’s my boss. I sigh and brace myrself as I step out of the path of fast-passing pedestrians and lean against the brick wall of a fashion boutique.
“Stewie, Hey!” I answer as brightly as possible.
“Y/N, Hi. I know I agreed to let you have today off, and that still stands. We’re closing soon anyway. But I just wanted to let you know a package got delivered here this morning with your name on it. There something wrong with the mail at your apartment? Your neighbours stealing your packages again?”
“Uh…no. Not that I know of. I didn’t order anything.”
“Ah, well I’ll leave it in my office. You have a key, you can swing by through the back and pick it up whenever you’re ready.”
“I’m actually around the corner right now. Can I swing by now before you close?”
“Sure! I’ll be here.”
“Thanks, Stewie. See you soon!” I hang up and rush down the street in the opposite direction, back towards the cafe. The sign’s already flicked to ‘closed’ when I get there, but there's light on in the kitchen so I go in.
“Stewie, it’s just me. For the package,” I call out as I walk towards the lit-up kitchen. As I get closer, the smell of fresh bread and cookies overwhelms my senses. “You know we’re closing for two days, right?” I call out as I round the corner into the spacious kitchen.
The short, round balding man, with just a few strands of grey hair, comes into view carrying a tray of shortbread biscuits straight out of the oven. His glasses, sitting on the tip of his nose, are fogged up. “Yeah, yeah. But I got a big family to feed and a tiny kitchen to do it with. I put everything I got into keeping this place open. I may as well make the most of it.”
“Good idea. So, uh, the package?” I ask as I eye off the golden biscuits, shaped like gingerbread men, wreaths, bells and candy canes. My empty stomach growls andI clear my throat to hide it, but, despite his age, old Stewie hears it.
“Help yourself. I can spare a few. Grab a takeaway container. You can even have a loaf of bread, they’ll be done soon…Wife wants me home before dark.”
“I couldn’t. They’re for your family. I’m just here for my package, remember?”
“Listen, I ain’t no Scrooge. I know your measly salary may make you think I am, but I pay you as much as I can. Outside the holidays, we’re barely making rent. Least I can do is give you a few cookies and some bread.”
“Stewie, I know you do your best for this place and all of us. We all know it. But if you insist, I do find it hard to resist your cooking. Rudie’s great, but you’re the master.”
“No need for flattery, kiddo. Go grab your package from my office and I’ll package up some cookies and bread for you.”
“Alright, thanks. You’re the best!” I smile at Stewie as I go into his office. Mamma Jo was his mother, who passed a few short months ago. She was the light of the kitchen whenever she visited to check on things. Stewie runs the place with as much passion as she did, yet he hasn’t baked since she passed, that is, until tonight. I smile, hoping he’s finally finding his passion again.
I spot a medium-sized cardboard box on the edge of the desk, I shake my head wondering what it could possibly be. Once I get close enough, I read the label.
To Y/NMamma Jo’s Coffee and Chocolateria204 5th Ave, New York, NY 10019
From Jensen Acklesc/o Management Beverly Hills, CA 90210
I quickly pull my phone out, snap a picture of the parcel and send it to Jensen.
Hey Superstar, this your doing? Thought you were in Texas?
I don’t wait for a reply, I put my phone away and go back into the kitchen with the box tucked under my arm and my overnight bag slung over my other shoulder. Stewie hands me two boxes of warm goods; I don’t look inside but they smell delicious. He looks at me dubiously as I attempt to carry it all.
“How far you headed, Kiddo?”
“Not far, it’s okay. I’ll manage,” I try to assure him, but he sees right through it. He gives me a look to say he doesn’t believe me; it’s the kind of look you would expect from a parent who’s waiting for their child to come clean. “My friend’s place in Lower Manhattan. She and her fiance invited me for Christmas so I wouldn’t be alone. Plus, I’m helping with the wedding planning.”
“If you help me pack all these up,” Stewie says gesturing at the cooling cookies and bread, “and clean up the kitchen. I’ll drive you.”
“I’m happy to help, but you do not need to drive me that far out of your way on Christmas Eve.”
“I don’t endorse free labor, so either you get out of here now, or you stay and help and then I drive you.”
Feeling the strain in my arms already and dreading the walk in the snow, I make a decision. I sigh and put everything down on a clear counter and then start carefully boxing up cookies. Stewie nods and starts packaging the loaves of bread, croissants and other pastries on the other tray. Once we finish packaging everything, I clean the trays, bowls and utensils while Stewie wipes down the oven and benches. Working in perfect harmony, we’re finished in no time.
It takes a few trips to load everything into his delivery van parked in the back alley. Despite his insistence that it’s all for his family, I know he’ll end up sharing with his whole block and it just makes me admire him more.
After shutting off the lights and locking up, Stewie skillfully navigates out of the alley and out onto the busy street towards Lower Manhattan. I provide directions to the best of my ability, using my knowledge of the few times Nick has driven me with some –a lot of–help from the GPS on my phone. AsI’m looking at the map I notice a text come through from Jensen, but I swipe up quickly to make it go away so I can focus on providing directions.
After a while, Stewie pulls up in Stella and Nick’s driveway. I thank him sincerely, collect my things and carefully trudge through the light covering of snow to get to the front door. I wave Stewie off once Stella opens the door. I’m instantly welcomed by the warm and enticing smell of roast chicken.
“I come bearing gifts, Merry Christmas guys!” I say as I signal for Stella to take the boxes of treats. She eagerly takes them as she eyes the other box at the same time. Luckily, though the smell distracts her and she hurries into the kitchen to put the boxes down and peek inside.
Nick peeks over her shoulder. “Sourdough? That’ll be perfect to go with dinner. I’ll put the store-bought shit back.”
“Rudie or Stewie?” Stella asks critically.
“Stewie. He’s finally coming back on board after everything,” I offer happily.
“Yay!” Stella says clapping as she reaches for a cookie, but Nick slaps her hand away.
“Dinner’s almost ready.” He looks over at my still full arms and nods towards the stairs. “Guest room’s all set up for you so you don’t have to pass out on the couch this time. And if that’s a gift for us it can go under the tree.”
“Uh, yeah. Thanks. I’ll just go put my stuff down,” I say with a smile before slipping upstairs to the guest room. I dump my bag on the floor and the box on the bed. I stare at it curiously. Then remember the text in the car. I pull your phone out to read it, but Stella bursts in.
“I tried to make it all nice and pretty and festive for my bestest maid of honor!” She says joyfully as she points out the little Christmas tree and tinsel decorating the dresser.
“It looks amazing! You’re the best,” I say brightly, yet distracted.
“You didn’t have to get us anything you know,” she says as she gestures at the box. “You being here and organising the bridal shower and helping with the wedding is more than enough. I know money’s tight at the moment.”
“Good, 'cause it’s not from me…Jensen sent it to the cafe. Stewie called and told me to pick it up, hence all the pastries and cookies. I wasn’t meant to go in today…”
“Jensen sent you a gift?”
“I’m not sure if he did or if he got his management team to. Maybe it’s an NDA and warning? He’s in Texas and it says California so…” I finally look down at my phone screen.
It was and I amI wanted to put my address, I didBut with no NDA my agent was against itBut I promise it’s from me
“He says it’s from him, his agent just wouldn’t let him put his address,” I explain, half to Stella and half to make yourself believe it. As I’m talking another text comes through.
Open it yet, Sweetheart?
“He asked if I opened it yet?”
“Well, what are you waiting for?” Stella urges as she pushes the box closer to me.
I touch the tape but then withdraw and text him back.
Should I not wait until Christmas?
After a minute his name pops up on my screen. I look hesitantly between the phone and my best friend. She nods understanding and stands up. “I’ll be downstairs, but I want details when you’re done!”
I nod and shoo her out quickly before leaning my back against the now-closed door.

Enclosed
Prompt: Letters & Lingerie
Tom lay in his bunk with a cocky smile on his lips. He cast his eyes around the rest of the room, finding only one or two other sailors, both asleep and far enough away that they wouldn’t be able to hear him.
This ritual was well worth skipping his mid-day meal.
He weighed the envelopes in his hands for a moment. It felt heavier than it usually did – that boded well for him. After taking a moment to inhale the perfume you had lovingly sprayed on the envelope, Tom dug into your letter.
Tom, my strapping husband,
You said in your last letter that your life in His Majesty’s Nave was ‘fucking boring.’ Shall I tell you how exciting my life back home is?
My uncle has changed the studio’s opening to eleven in the morning so he can get some sleep after staying up all night as an air raid warden. Which means I must find a way to fill that time, assuming I am not also sleeping as I often do after spending a night crammed into a shelter with every screaming and crying child in the whole goddamn neighborhood.
But when I am not sleeping, I often find myself doing the chores that Mum no longer has the energy to do. I swear, if I didn’t do the shopping and cooking, we’d all be eating nothing but bread. Since dad left, she just hasn’t been the same. I think him leaving again reminds her of the last war. He went missing for seven months, seven! I can’t imagine how awful it must have been for her.
Don’t you ever put me through that, Tom Bennett. Not even for a week. I swear I’d come to France myself to drag you back here by your ear.
Now that’s out of the way, I do have something somewhat exciting to tell you. My uncle’s been letting me use the camera a lot more than before he signed up to be a warden. I even got to do a family’s christening portrait all on my own! He wants me to be able to handle the studio on my own, should he ever get called up (not that we’re even slightly concerned about that, considering his age). Or – oh no. That’s not really why he’s doing it, is it? He wants me to be able to run it in case one day he doesn’t come back after the sirens go off, doesn’t he? I’m going to try not to think about that.
I brought it up because he’s allowed me to start using the portable camera rather than the big one in the studio. This way, I won’t always have to be nervous that he will walk in on me when I take pictures for you.
Speaking of, I think you’ll like what I enclosed today. I borrowed Mum’s, just as you asked.
Your adoring wife,
Tom stared at those two wonderful words. Husband. Wife.
He wished he’d been able to give you the ceremony you deserved. Not simply standing in the register office with all your parents looking on with half-hearted smiles before being rushed out almost immediately so the next couple could come in. You deserved so much more than that, roses and a band and a grand hall and all that shit. Once he was home, for good, he’d give it to you. All of it. Most of all, a big honeymoon. Not the one night in a shabby local hotel your parents, your uncle, and even his sister Lois had helped pitch in to get you. Only for him to have to leave again the next day.
The fact that he was leaving you as his wife instead of just as his best girl made it somehow so much harder.
But this helped.
He started by writing his reply to the actual content of your letter. If he started with the pictures, he knew he wouldn’t give a shit about whatever you’d written by the end.
My sweet darling wife,
I am so very sorry that you have things to do all day. Whenever I feel bad about sitting at the prow and staring at the endless ocean, I will remind myself that you are enduring such tortures as shopping and taking undoubtedly lovely family portraits. It will remind me that I should be eternally grateful that the king himself has sent me on the world’s most boring cruise.
Joking aside, I am very sorry you’re stressed. Give your mum my love and tell your uncle that I’m counting on him to look after you while I’m gone, and thank him for his good work (with the warden thing, not the photography). Please take care of yourself. I know you’re willing to stretch yourself thin for the people you love, but I love you too, and I’ll be pissed if I come home to a wife too exhausted to even fuck me.
I actually might not be bored for a few days. They’re sending us to do a job, even if I will be stuck in a rowboat for a day, maybe more. Ah well, at least I won’t be the one rowing, at least.
I’m very happy about you getting more responsibility at the studio. Of course, most of that is for selfish reasons, but I’m still proud of you, love. Can’t wait to see what you’ve enclosed. Oh and before I forget, I’d like to request something… red in your next letter.
Your proud husband,
Tom Bennett
He never wrote as much as you did, but he knew you didn’t mind. You didn’t want any details about the horrible, upsetting things he’d seen, it would only worry you too much. Besides, you knew what he really loved about your letters.
After taking another deep breath, Tom set the paper aside and finally allowed himself to look at your pictures.
“Oh, you gorgeous, gorgeous girl…”
The pearl necklace you wore was a little off-center, but Tom hardly noticed it. He was solely focused on what you were wearing—a full corset, in some kind of shiny, light-colored fabric. The top of it only held half of your perfect tits inside, allowing him to admire their smooth curves. What he wouldn’t give to hold them in his hands. Once he got home, he’d do just that for an hour at least.
Over your delightfully cinched waist, you’d worn a sheer petticoat with ruffles at the bottom – exactly like one you might have worn under your wedding dress, if you’d been able to wear one. He’d get you that, too. Even if only to go to your uncle’s studio to take pictures. Tom wouldn’t need to rent a morning coat, as he’d just wear his uniform, so he could spend extra getting you the perfect dress.
Maybe you could even redo the wedding night.
Tom surveyed the room again before lying back and sliding his hand below his waistband. He’d done this so many times that now, he got hard the instant he picked up the envelope, so he was still relatively proud of his restraint, and was sure you would be, too.
He started slowly, imagining slipping the petticoat off you. Imagine how you’d shiver as his finger ever so slightly brushed your skin. The sounds you’d make – sighs and little whimpers. He loved those little whimpers so much.
He let out his own soft sigh as he began to move his hand faster. Once the petticoat was down, he’d kneel in front of you and make quick work of your shoes, then take his sweet time unbuckling and lowering your stocking.
God, how he missed those legs, shapely and soft. He loved touching them, kissing them, laying between them. His hips kicked up as he imagined himself kissing his way up them when he got home, all the way up to that delightful place where your knickers dug into the little dip between your leg and your hips.
It was hard to hold back his moan at the thought.
He’d lower your knickers first, he decided. So he could bury himself in you until he was satisfied. Yours was a taste he craved as badly as he did for decent cigarettes. He sometimes woke from dreams of devouring you, thinking he could still taste you on his tongue.
Only when your legs were shaking would he stand, prowling behind you with his hands on your waist. He’d kiss your neck as he untied your corset. Or unhooked? He didn’t know, but he hoped it was untie – it was sexier.
The pearls would stay on the whole time as he kissed you, touched you, fucked you. He’d put them between your teeth to help you soften your cries and moans, then watch them fall back on your chest when you came. You always came with your mouth wide open as you screamed his name.
That memory of your voice and the way your nails would dig into his skin is what drove him over the edge, spilling himself into his hand.
Tom lay there, reliving his imaginings, until a bell rang, signaling it was time to get in the rowboats. He made sure to wipe his hand on the mattress of one of the rich cunts who mocked him and the other working-class boys before leaving, his own letter in hand.
He stopped by the room where they kept their post on his way to the rowboats, quickly folding his paper to stuff it into an envelope. A smile crept over his features as he addressed it to ‘Mrs. Tom Bennett,’ before filling out the rest. He was glad that you were living in your parent’s house, but he couldn’t wait until he could get a place just for the two of you.
Lastly, he wrote the date in the corner of the envelope, as you always liked to know when he received yours, so you could be sure to include all the relevant gossip he’d missed.

Check In On Your Friends
(Story Post)
“Hej mine kære venner! Jeg kommer med gaver!”
Theo was lounging in bed when he heard the elf raucously burst into his apartment. He was tired, hungry, irritated, and now bigger than he could’ve imagined. The last thing he needed was noise, but he was a bit surprised to hear Korsy was back from his trip.
“What?” Theo groaned, turning over to try and sit up. His stomach stuck out like a torpedo now and sat between his legs, webbed with stretch marks and red from minor rashes.
Henderson let the elf into the room and Korsy beamed, carrying a shopping bag with him. “I said ‘Hello, my dear friends! I come bearing gifts!’”
“Ah…” Theo yawned and waved Henderson over. “Do I have any snacks left?”
Henderson was already prepared and brought him a plate of crackers and fruit. “I just got some groceries today.”
Theo received the plate delightedly while Henderson sat down beside him. “Merci… Ugh, what would I do without you…”
“Shit, dude. Can you even get up with that much baby?” Korsy commented, unable to fathom his friend’s shape.
“Not really…” Theo shrugged. “I’m officially on bed rest.”
“No kidding.” Korsy put his hands on his hips in bewilderment. “Shouldn’t you be on, like, hospital bed rest?”
Theo sighed. “That’s what the doctor’s office said, but now both my usual doctors are away for whatever reason, and there’s just this one doctor there now, who I’ve heard is a whack job, so I would rather stay home. Non, merci.”
“Ah, Dr Gardi’s not bad. But I see your point.” Korsy lifted his bag. “Anyway, souvenirs for you.”
“No way it’s been two months…” Theo said, checking his side table alarm clock for the date.
“No, we had to come back a little early, but I’m leaving again tomorrow morning,” Korsy said as he started rummaging through his bag. “Anyway, I can’t give you all the details, but I did go ‘home’ and I ‘borrowed’ a few things. Catch.”
Henderson jumped a little when a metal object was tossed to him. He caught it and realised it was a gold bracelet of some kind. “What’s this?”
“Sun elf bangle. Drow probably stole it. So, eh. Yours now.”
Henderson was shocked at first as the moment he slipped the bangle on, it adjusted to the size of his wrist. Worried it might be stuck, he pulled at it, but lit up seeing it resize again and slip off easily. “…Whoa. That’s incredible. Theo, look! It fits me so well!”
“It does,” Theo complimented. “It suits you.”
Henderson beamed. “Thanks, Korsy.”
“Don’t mention it. My uncle’s wife doesn’t need it anyway.” Korsy pulled something else from his bag, but this time handed it nicely to Theo. “For you.”
Korsy had handed him a little figure of an elven soldier carved in walnut with silver details. It carried a bow and looked noble. “That’s sweet, Korsy! Wow,” Theo said, admiring the figure. “Thanks.”
“Also, here.” Korsy handed them each something bundled in paper. “My aunt made these traditional elven buns.”
Theo put the figure down quickly so he could take the buns. “Oh, I can smell it already! I love fresh bread.”
“So, she’s you ‘aunt’ now?” Henderson questioned. “After calling her your uncle’s wife…”
“Different women, same uncle.” Korsy shrugged. “Divorce is weird… Karla’s still my aunt though, even if not by marriage.”
“So, why’d you have to come home early?” Theo asked before biting into his bun.
“That’s classified…” Korsy leaned against the bedroom door and sighed. “You guys should really consider some APID jobs. It’d be so much easier to talk to you about this kind of stuff if you have clearance.”
“Working on it,” Henderson said, and Theo nodded but he couldn’t speak through mouthfuls of bread. “Since you’re back briefly, have you checked in on your little…situationship?”
“It’s not a situationship. We’re just friends,” Korsy said. “And no, I don’t think I should bother him right now. I don’t have a lot of time anyway.”
“You made time for us,” Theo pointed out. “I thought you cared about this guy.”
“I don’t! I mean, I do, like friends,” Korsy tried to answer. “It’s just too complicated. He knows I’m away for two months, so he won’t be missing anything.”
Theo and Henderson both exchanged looks and frowned.
“You have feelings for him,” Henderson said.
Theo nodded along. “You like him.”
Korsy shook his head quickly. “Don’t make this something it’s not. I don’t like him like that. And I know he doesn’t see me that way.”
“Mmhm.” Henderson gave his gift bun to Theo and got up. “Korsy, are you looking for a romantic relationship?”
“No, I don’t do relationships,” Korsy said confidently.
“Why not? Are you aromantic?” Henderson asked.
“Ooh!” Theo got excited. “I’ve never known anyone aromantic before.”
“Guys, I’m not aromantic!” Korsy said. “I just don’t have time for that right now. My job is too important, and it doesn’t have room for settling down and having kids.”
“Aw, you want kids?” Theo cooed.
“That’s not what I’m saying!”
“You’re the one who brought it up,” Henderson pointed out.
“Wait, is this the same guy you had a pregnancy scare with?” Theo asked. “Oh, so that whole thing has you worried about your future and fatherhood and stuff. Je comprends.”
“You don’t comprends shit,” Korsy said.
Theo furrowed his brow and motioned to his heavily pregnant belly. “Je comprends.”
Henderson chuckled and wrapped his arms around Theo’s torso to rub his belly. He continued with Korsy’s dilemma. “Anyway, you say your job doesn’t have room for that, but I feel like you’re giving it too much credit. Does APID not provide time regular time off?”
Korsy sighed. “It does, but—”
“Does it not provide vacation time?” Henderson continued.
“Yes. Obviously.”
“Do you use your vacation time?”
“Um…” Korsy shrugged. “Here and there.”
Theo jumped in. “Does APID provide paternity leave and partner benefits?”
“Yes. It’s the government,” Korsy said. He motioned to them. “We have the same benefits. But I’m away all the time for months, and I am often putting myself in harms way. I don’t need to subject a partner to that.”
“You know there are people who are comfortable with that, right?” Henderson reminded. “You know, military spouses and such.”
“That’s their choice, but it’s not what I would want for a partner,” Korsy said. “I’m not ready to put that on someone.”
“But it sounds like you do want that at some point,” Theo said. “If not now.”
“It’s not something I can want, okay?” Korsy was starting to get worked up. “Can we move on from this? Please, I just wanted to drop off gifts and hang out a little bit.”
Theo sighed. “Okay. Do you want to play some games or something? I just got Baldur’s Gate 3.”
Korsy frowned. “The D&D video game?”
“Yeah. You wanna make a character or something?”
Korsy rolled his eyes. “And be what, a drow elf rogue?”
Henderson shrugged. “You don’t have to be.”
Korsy opened his arms. “You know how I feel about D&D.”
“Ah, right, sorry…” Theo tilted his head. “So… You wanna play Tears of the Kingdom or Mortal Kombat or someth—”
Korsy crossed his arms. “No, let’s play Baldur’s Gate I guess.”
Theo grinned. “Really? You won't be offended?”
Korsy shrugged and found himself a seat on the edge of the bed. “Well, I have to try it out to see how bad the representation is, don't I? And, is that a PS5? I haven't tried one yet.”
“Oh, you definitely have to try it,” Henderson encouraged.
“Yeah, here.” Theo tapped his side table. “My controllers are in the drawer.”
Korsy retrieved a controller. “Alright, nice. So, are drow good or bad?”
“Eh, it depends.”
“Hm. Alright, so how do I make a drow rogue?”
“We said you don't have to be a drow rogue...”
“I want to.”
“D’accord, d’accord…”
[Disclaimer: This author does not know Danish. If you do and this is bad, lemme know! I'd love to fix it. I do know French, but if somehow that's fucked too, lemme know.]

Hearsay
Though he made the same mistake twice, he soon knew her name through other people's mouth
The town's people seem to take interest in her, as well as him. Whenever he walks through the market, one or two people will stop him, either to ask him about himself, or introduce themselves to him
It was nice and casual, until he told them where he lives
It's a wonder how people's face change when they hear it, and how her name immediately rolls out of their mouth, as if they're all under the same spell
Though he promised not to find out about her, he couldn't help it when people talk about her to an extent
"She's very strange, she doesn't talk too much either about herself."
"That girl is surely pretty. Pretty and mysterious. The kind of woman that mothers tell their sons to stay away from, don't you think?"
"She's a witch, I saw her feeding a black cat everyday, it must be her familiar."
"I think she's a mistress of some gang leader, or a politician. Have you look what's inside her house? You should, and you'll agree with me on this."
She's very kind, she bought my son a huge toy, telling me that it's rare for someone to like… what's that toy's name? Lego. She said it's rare for someone to like it."
"I heard she bought a bull for the cowman down the road, that's why the old man refuses any payments from her."
"She's up to no good. Did you know that she hired a young man to work in her garden? Oh, poor boy, he didn't know he'd get eaten by her."
"She's very misunderstood. Me and my husband almost closed our bakery because we couldn't manage our debt really well, but she helped us when I told her that. She didn't ask for anything, but people kept telling me that she's gonna take my husband. She's not! She just likes our bread. But people wouldn't listen. And because of that, she rarely visited us anymore."
"Oh?" He commented, "Have you talked about it to her?"
"Yes, I told her everything, I even told her that no matter what, I'd trust her more, but she dismissed me, telling me it's not wise." Her face heated up as she spoke, "You might think that I'm a fool, but sir, I can see people's heart. She's very kind, but she's lonely. I think she's been distrustful towards other people for so long, that's why she seems strange."
"Well, she does seem to be in her own world."
"But she's very kind, sir. I can assure you that. I hope you'll see it someday, because I think she really needs a friend."
He smiles, "She already has it. A good friend, in fact."
"Oh." She blushes at his words, "I'm not a good friend sir, I can't even defend her in front of people."
"But you did change my perspective on her." He told her, "I think that's enough proof."
"I'm glad if you do, sir." She smiles, which lets her innocence shine through, "Oh! If it doesn't bother you, sir," She then fumbles on the paper bag and puts a loaf of sourdough and other breads inside, "Do you mind if you give it to her? I know she's been baking her own bread now, but I want to give her something."
"Sure, I'll send your regards to her."
It seems to lighten her mood, and she shouts 'hope you'll come again sir' when he leaves
On his way out of the market, he replays most of his conversations in his head. Even though it's all just gossips, there should be a grain of truth in it, and it tickles him with the fact that he can easily find out about it
After 15 minutes of walking, he catches the sight of her home. It does look mythical from far, maybe that's the reason why the kids in town called her a witch
To his surprise, she opens the door when he knocks. She narrows her eyes when she sees his face
"You've visited my house three times in a row, do you like me that much?"
"Maybe I do." He gives her his smile, "Went to town today, someone from the bakery asked me to deliver this to you."
She picks up the paper bag from him, and furrows her brows when she sees the content
"Oh no… I just made bread today."
"You can always have room for one more."
"No, sourdough won't last that long." She said, "... Guess I have to give it away."
"Give it to me, then."
She eyes him and the paper bag in his hand, "Didn't you already buy one?"
"I always welcome free foods."
She looks at him, before chuckling, "So you're that kind of people." She said, stepping aside, "Come in then."
He takes the offer gladly
The inside of her house is as enchanting as the outside, with statues, colorful rugs, and artworks scattered around the room, making it almost like a museum
The kitchen is also the same, with different kinds of plates and mugs. The gramophone sits on top of the island, playing a familiar song
"You like Prince?"
"I do." She said while checking the oven, "You know him?"
"Big fan of him."
"I didn't take you as someone who likes Prince."
"What's your take on me then?"
"You like metal."
"I do like them."
"That's good." She takes her eyes off the oven, "5 more minutes, and it's done. Have you had breakfast?"
"Not yet."
"Does smoked salmon sandwich sound good?"
"Absolutely."
She pulls the ingredients and the plate, and cuts 2 slices of the baker's bread, lightly toasts them, before assembling the rest of it on top of the bread. He winces when she spreads the cream cheese on top of them, but he knows he has no right to complain
There's a change in her demeanor, as if she's no longer cold around him. Or maybe that's just his pride talking
"Here you go." She pushes the plate toward him, "Hope it's to your liking."
Which, surprisingly, it is. The cream balances the saltiness of the smoked salmon, and the leaves (he has no idea what those are) on top of it gives a slight bitter, but refreshing taste.
She takes the bread from the oven, and put it on a rack to cool it down
While he eats, he watches her unpack the bread from her friend
"She's too generous."
"Who?"
"Liv." She sighs, "I can't possibly eat this many breads. She even gives me brioche."
"You can always share it with other people."
"Yeah," She said, "Mr. Harris likes sweet bread."
She begins to wrap the bread with parchment paper, and ties it up. She then stores the rest of it, except for a small bread, of which she gives it to him
"Liv's brioche is good, you'll come to like it." She told him as she put it in the paper bag, along with her bread
"Thanks a lot, (name)."
"So you've learnt my name."
"Can't help it, everyone in town talks about you."
"Guess it's inevitable then."
Back at home, he unpacks his groceries, along with her bread
Out of curiosity, he slices himself a piece of bread to taste them, and although the sourdough he ate earlier was amazing, something about a handmade bread that makes him warm
Maybe he, too, has been alone for too long

Been wanting to do this for sometime so here are some of my headcanon for Autistic Aziraphale.
Please note that Autism is a spectrum and that everyone’s have a different experience because some of these are hc are based on experiences I have as an autistic person or maybe other might’ve too. So please be mindful, but hope you guys enjoy and feel free to ask any questions. (I love this gif)
Headcanon 1:
Aziraphale isn’t comfortable with crowds or at the very least crowds that might be noisy or isn’t his usually spaces or familiar with (I.e his bookshop, Give me coffee or give me death, etc) so he usually just wouldn’t want to go or if he does try it, he’ll bring his yellow Walkman Crowley got him so he can listen to music since music calm him down.
Headcanon 2:
He’s the type to want to listen to any other songs to not get out the comfort zone so if he does, he would have to listen to them twice or three times in order to decide if he like the song or not. (Idk if this one odd let me explain, it something I do since I don’t like to listen to different songs that isn’t in my comfort zone let alone song that aren’t my usual so if I did listen to it I would have to listen to them fully two or three times to see if I like the lyric, rhyme and beat. Just to make sure it not too loud, repetitive, or fits in my comfort zone for me. But also the lyric the factor since I like interpreting songs, probably why I like The Crane’s wives for example or even Laufey sm.)
Headcanon 3:
Hardcover > Paperback because he likes the feeling of the hardcover then he does with paperbacks. But also he feels the texture is better. Hence why most of the books in his bookshop are hardcovers.
Headcanon 4:
He does have specific food textures he doesn’t typically like. Like bananas, if the bread is too flakey, rice is too hard, some sandwiches or eggs. So he stays away from it and stick to his safe foods like sushi, pears, cakes.
Headcanon 5:
Crowley love it when Aziraphale hyperfixates and talk about his favorite book he reading because it fill him with love to see that Aziraphale find something he loves. It actually took Aziraphale some time since heaven would often interrupts, ignore or blatantly brush him off to cut it out leaving Aziraphale to feel insecure about his special interest. Ofc it also toke meeting mortals like him to get him to open up so when Crowley first heard him hyperfixate it made him happy. Because that how Aziraphale in a sense show trust in him and himself to open up.
Headcanon 6:
Aziraphale likes to stim! I think I kinda dip my toes in it in some post from before but I do believe that he stims. Whether he hums a tone, wiggles or etc. he also started doing this after time passed because again heaven and also some mortal look down on this. But with the comfort of his bookshop, Crowley and also meeting understanding mortal he start to feel more comfortable. Granted he still try to hide it due to masking and to this day still mask but once he with Crowley or in the comfort of his home he stims.
And that really about it for hc today
Me rambling in 3…..2…….1 (tw: ableism)
And that’s pretty much concludes it, I might do this again as it fun. Headcanon is my favorite thing as well as when it comes to autistic headcanon. Autistic rep has been… not the best, granted I haven’t watch much tv shows other than ofmd, good omens, and more so I’m not sure if they got better, I don’t know if I’ll talk about that aspect of negative reps but all say, they have harmful impact as I have a family member that will joke “when will I see numbers” which…sure it a joke but…. I can’t help but feel bad. So doing this and seeing positive rep or seeing autistic/adhd coded characters make me happy!
This is fun in so many ways, mostly because as shown in my past post I relate to aziraphale. Still don’t know how I feel about that but regardless I love his character, his flaws, everything! And I see how he autistic coded in my eyes so it makes me almost relate to him even more. And I’ve been wanting to show my personal headcanon for a while just I thought now would be the best day. Especially as this Good Omens brainrot is alive and well among my other brainrot. I do hope you guys enjoy this let me know if you wanna hear more or if you have your own personal hc that you want to share. And hope you guys are having a good day with how bizarre 2024 is and hope you’re also having fun ghostly pals.
Here a Aziracrow/ineffable husbands/spouse/wives gif:
#autistic aziraphale#good omens#autistic headcanon#aziraphale#aziraphale good omens#good omens aziraphale#I do believe Crowley also autistic or adhd or both#good omens headcanon#good omens rambles#phantomramble#phantom rambles#tw: ableism#good omens is my permanent roommate#good omens fandom

Just saw this and thought of an idea of y/n and derek enjoying early mornings and late nights together (either after tough cases or on rainy days) cooking together, laying in bed holding each other as they share sweet kisses between the two, putting on some music and dancing together while having a home date night (this could also be considered for hotchner brother)
As you can tell I have alot of ideas from soft fluff
-🧊
Warnings: Few mentions of rough cases
Word count: 1008
A/N: Okay, I tried something slightly different, let me know what you think aha. Also, did go with y/n hotchner for this fic in the end aha
Early Mornings:
‘Lose an hour in the morning, and you will spend all day looking for it.’ - Richard Whately.
Early mornings were a given in your household, especially with your jobs. But, nonetheless, they were treasured. You almost always woke first, only ever by a few minutes, but those minutes were filled with admiration as you watched his eyes flutter beneath his eyelids, eyelashes resting on his cheeks. Derek’s face always smoothed out, truly relaxed. It wasn’t often you saw him this relaxed, other than when he was asleep.
Today, however, you were not awake first. The case had been tough and had taken a lot out of you, apparently so much so that you slept in an extra half an hour.
“Come on baby,” He murmured, placing a soft kiss against your neck, “We need to head to work.”
You shook your head, giving a small whine. “No, I wanna stay here forever,”
Derek gave a small chuckle, you shivered, feeling the vibrations against your cheek that was planted firmly on his chest, “Your brother would have our heads if we were late again this week,”
“Aaron doesn’t need to know,” You mumbled.
“He’d kick my ass and you know it,”
“You could take him.” You stated, leaving no room for argument as you fell back asleep.
Late Nights:
‘Late night conversations make you learn a lot about people.’ - Unknown.
You laid, curled into Derek’s side, desperately fighting off the sleep that gripped you firmly in its hold. You snuggled deeper into his chest, taking in his scent, this moment, how perfect it was. “It’s okay baby,” He mumbled, planting a kiss on the top of your head. “Go to sleep,” He said, “It’s been a long day, you deserve it.”
You let out a content smile as you slowly gave in, allowing yourself to drift off, surrounded by his scent, by him. By the very thing, the very being that made you feel safe.
Cooking:
‘Cooking is a caring and nurturing act. It’s kind of the ultimate gift for someone, to cook for them.’ - Curtis Stone.
“Babe, can you pass me the carving knife?” It’s a simple kitchen question that has you immediately stumped. Your knowledge on kitchen knives was limited - bread knife, bumpy knife, butter knife, eating knife, big knife, small knife, medium knife… That was it.
“Erm, yeah,” You answer, peering at the block of knives in front of you, “Which one would that be?”
Derek gives a chuckle as he reaches past you, carefully removing it from the block. You nod, mentally jotting that down for next time. “The kitchen’s not your forte, is it?”
“Nope,” You said with a grin, you were a big enough man to admit that. Honestly, you only knew how to cook things Rossi had made you learn during Friday Family Night Dinners.
“I’ll help with that,” He said with a wink.
Holding Each Other:
‘The best thing to hold onto in life is each other’ - Unknown.
You weren’t always public in your affection for each other. At least not at the start - not wanting to spring it on the team and then rub their faces in it (especially with Aaron being team leader and all). But eventually, you found yourself warming up to each other in the presence of the team, granted it was a quick peck on the cheek or holding hands under the table, but it was something.
Then, after a case that was draining - there was really no other way to put it - the only thing either of you needed was to just hold each other. The others seemed to have clocked this and so, insisted that the pair of you took the jet couch. Both too tired to argue, you curled up into each other’s sides, acknowledging the slow breathing of the other, allowing the other’s scent to calm you, to relax your muscles, to let the tensions of the day wash away.
Stolen Kisses:
‘One kiss could bind two souls in a second.’ - Unknown.
You’re not paying attention to your surroundings, you know that. But you know who’s in the room (you, Derek, and Aaron). Your latest task was to work on the geographical profile whilst Reid and Rossi were out talking to the victim’s therapist. Your eyes locked tightly on the map, the area Reid had circled in red.
You barely register Derek’s head popping into your vision. In fact, by the time you realise, he’s already landed one on your lips, leaving you blushing in the middle of the room, Aaron’s back to the pair of you - working on whatever the hell it was he had to do.
Eventually, you get your payback. He’s listening to music, staring out of the window on the way home from the case. He’s completely zoned out. You lean over the desk between you, gently gripping his chin in your heads, delicately turning his head to yours and planted a kiss - finding yourself smiling when Derek smiles into the kiss.
Music and Dancing:
‘We can’t choose the music that life gives up, but we can choose how to dance to it’ - Unknown.
Music played softly, you clutched Derek - the pair of you chuckling - as you began to softly sway to the beat. “I love you,” You mumbled, resting your head against his shoulder. He placed his chin on your head.
“I love you more,” He chuckled, you snorted.
“Could you be any more cheesy?”
"Probably," Derek mumbled, you just laugh softly. You couldn't help the squeal that comes from your lips when Derek picks you up, spinning you around. The laugh bubbles loudly in your throat. And for a moment, you forget about the case, the sadness, the death. For a moment, you're just two people in love.
A loud banging on the wall to the left drew you out of your thoughts. "Can you two please shut up? I'm trying to work!" Aaron's voice floods through the wall and you can't help it, but the laughter (much to Aaron's dismay) only grows louder.

You could hear him on the phone, talking low enough that whatever he was saying was just unintelligible from the distance you were at, no doubt in an effort not to wake you. As he went quiet you assumed the call had ended and decided it was time to make yourself known and stop loitering. He was pottering around your kitchen, making a sandwich which didn’t surprise you considering he’d almost eaten you out of house and home over the last few days, yet he stopped as you came in, smiling at you for a moment before he went back to his task. You smiled back, moving to take another couple of slices of bread out of the packet so that he could make you one too. He took them without question, allowing you to rest back against the kitchen counter as you watched him.
He looked good this morning, then again he looked good every morning in your opinion. But today there was definitely a marked difference. The black eye he’d been sporting had started to fade, the yellow hue of it blending more with his sun-freckled complexion, and the busted lip he had was now healed – something he had teased was from all the gentle kisses you had laid upon it. At that thought your heart squoze in your chest. Not because of how nauseatingly cute it was but because you were sure that that version of him was going to be gone again soon.
Four days. He’d been here only four days and yet you knew that was the most he’d allow himself to give you before he headed back out on the road, looking for whatever it was that would no doubt have him come back to you bloodied and broken at some point in the future.
You knew it was coming, that he would leave you whether you wanted him to or not. And yet you decided to test the waters anyway as if the answer might be different as you asked, ‘So who was on the phone?’
‘Oh, uh my dad,’ he said clearing his throat and dropping his gaze to the sandwiches on the table in front of him. As his smile faded your suspicions were confirmed, solidified by the sadness that came to his eyes as he looked at you as if he was preparing whatever speech he’d been planning out in preparation for the moment.
‘Yeah?’ you asked, watching as his face flicked again with melancholy.
‘Yeah, he’s uh caught a case down in New Orleans,’ he said, skating around the details as always as if that was going to make it hurt any less.
‘And he wants you to join him right?’ you asked which was finally enough to make him look up at you, offering a sad smile as he did.
‘He uh, needs me to get there asap…is that alright?’ he said and you fought the urge to roll your eyes given it was hardly as if you had any say in the matter.
He was always going to leave that was the way this situation worked. Even if you did work up the nerve and ask him to stay you knew it would never be right. He’d never be happy staying here with you, even if that was what he wanted deep down. That was why he could only ever give himself a few days. A few days of the life he wanted before reality called and he had to leave again. That was the problem. He could grant himself that slice of normality and use it to fuel him until he could come back to you. But it didn’t work like that for you. Whilst your fleeting pockets of time together fuelled him they drained you. They gave you hope, hope that was always yanked away after a few days, replaced by weeks of worrying and fretting about him. Until finally he’d end up on your doorstep again looking more fragile than when he had left.
‘Fine,’ was all you could think to say.
‘Cool,’ he replied before the two of you fell quiet. He finished up your sandwich, popping it on a plate as he sat down at your kitchen table with you following suit. You watched him as he started to eat, taking a sip of the beer you hadn’t noticed he’d gotten out of the fridge even though it was far too early to be drinking. You picked at your sandwich, feeling as uncomfortable to bring up what you wanted to as he had been not five minutes ago. It didn’t take long for him to notice your hesitance, your eyes meeting before you dropped your gaze and said, ‘Actually I’ve been thinking.’
‘Yeah?’ he said taking a swig of his beer though his eyes never left you.
‘Yeah,’ you said quietly finally looking at those hypnotic green eyes, the ones that made your stomach flutter each time they looked at you. Yet now they didn’t make you feel that way, they made you feel sick, the prospect of what you were going to say making your heart hurt.
‘I don’t think you should come back here,’ you said quietly. He looked at you, hurt swirling in his eyes before it disappeared, his jaw tightening as if to stop whatever he wanted to say from coming out.
‘Right,’ he said tightly. It made you nervous as though you needed to tell him why, like he deserved that much at least.
‘I mean don’t get me wrong I love having you here but then you have to go and-’
‘I get it,’ he said flatly the hurt in his voice only spurring you on with the idea that you needed to explain. To tell him it wasn’t his fault, that if things were different want nothing more than for him to stay.
‘Dean,’ you sighed.
‘It’s fine,’ he replied.
‘No, it’s not. None of this is fine!’ you said, shriller than you intended for it to be which you could tell from the way he looked at you panicked. It made tears sting your eyes and you dropped your gaze hoping they wouldn’t spill over.
‘Dean I don’t want this. I don’t want any of this but I can't keep doing it. Every time you go I think I’ll be okay and I tell myself I can do it again but then you show up covered in blood and broken and you let me fix you and then…and then you’re gone again and six weeks go by and it’s all I can think about. All I can do is wonder what you’re out there doing and I think maybe this time is it…maybe he’s not come back yet because he’s dead.’
He closed his eyes at that trying to ignore the guilt that gnawed at him when he heard the way your voice came out strangled and breathless at the thought of losing him. You could feel a sob building inside you, threatening to spill out any moment but you pushed it down, hoping it wouldn’t bubble over, ‘and then…and then you come back again and it starts all over again…I just…I don’t think I can do it again.’
You fell silent, your chest heaving as everything spilt out of you. He didn’t say anything and that only made you feel guiltier even though you knew that there was nothing either of you could say that would make it better because the thing that would fix it for you would ruin him. Like the way this was ruining you.
‘I’m sorry,’ was all you could whisper.
‘Me too,’ Dean agreed, placing his hand on the back of yours, ‘I didn’t mean to hurt you.’
‘I know…and I wish it didn’t,’ you said clasping your hand on his, hoping he wouldn’t blame himself though you knew he would, ‘I wish I was the sort of person who could just love you and I do. I mean I love this when we’re like this…but I can't.’
‘I know,’ he said sadly.
He didn’t say anything then, instead, he pulled from your grasp and started to get rid of his half-eaten sandwich and empty beer bottle. You sat there in silence, allowing him to press a kiss to your temple before he left the room. You didn’t chase after him because you couldn’t make yourself. Because if you did it would only start another cycle of this worrisome hell you were living. It would only break your heart into smaller pieces when he came back or didn’t.
You had to let him go.
I don't wanna see you anymore, I'm just not that strong, I love it when you're here, But I'm better when you're gone.
I'm certain that I've given, And, oh, how you can take, There's no use in you lookin', There's nothin' left for you to break.
Baby, please release me, let my heart rest in pieces.

Strangers All At Once: Burning
Strangers All At Once Masterpost
Prev | Next
Pairing: Sophie Beckett x Benedict Bridgerton
Summary: Sophie's lying to herself and everyone around... and how does Benedict really feel? Can they sort out this mess or will someone have to meddle?
Can't even begin to explain This all too well familiar pain That comes, and it goes, but it gets in my bones all the same, mmm Well, maybe I'm a fool for falling in love with you When I had nothing left to lose And nothing more I could give, went down with your sinking ship Now I don't think I'll make it through, through Now it's only the beat of my heart That reminds me not to stare at the sparks Can't set fire to my soul Just to keep ya, keep ya, keep ya from burning alone
How Sophie made it home she’d never know. She’d cried all the way home, she was sure of it.
How could she have been so stupid? She’d felt like she’d had nothing left to lose, felt like there was nothing left in her heart and soul to break but she’d been wrong.
She’d somehow, in the space of four weeks, fallen back in love with Benedict, or perhaps she’d never fallen out of love and her head finally gave in to remember what her heart had always felt…
She felt like a fool for falling in love with him.
He was a Bridgerton. A fucking bridgerton and she was a nobody. She was an orphan. She was a bastard. Her parents had never been married. A man like Benedict Bridgerton would never love someone like her… Araminta had told her that and she’d refused to believe it and she’d let herself hope. Convinced herself that he did love her but then she’d heard him say what he’d said…
And she’d left, heartbroken and wrecked… thinking that nothing would hurt as much ever again…
But then this time… standing there and hearing him saying the same things… how it had clearly meant nothing…
It broke her all over again and what was worse to her was that Violet had seen and heard…
Sophie wondered if she’d even be able to make it through the wedding…
But as she lay in her bed that evening she realised that even after the wedding… if she wanted to be in Kate’s life… Benedict was always going to be there…
Christenings for any of Kate’s kids, family gatherings for Kate’s birthday… he was going to be Uncle to those kids, he was going to be Kate’s brother in law. She’d never escape him.
He was going to be there, the memories would always resurface every time she saw him and she knew in her heart that no matter what… she was never getting over him.
The following morning she made her way to the cafe, michael and phillip had arrived early to help her set up and with the bread orders for the day and had asked her about how dinner had gone, Michael saw the pain in her face, the gaunt look behind her eyes and he knew something had gone wrong.
Sophie just shook her head “it’s fine. Just… if a Bridgerton comes in today… i am not here” she said and disappeared into the back and refused to talk about it.
The pain she felt was all too familiar, it was a pain she’d thought she’d left behind. She didn’t even know how to explain it to them, they would never understand. But it was a pain that went down to her bones.
It was too much and she knew she’d have some decisions to make about if she was to even stay here or if she should leave England forever.
~*~
Benedict had hated lying to his family, he rarely lied to them but when it came to Sophie he had to play his cards close to his chest.
Dinner had been amazing, they’d joked about, they’d flirted a little and he’d even held her hand for a moment when Simon had made a comment about how nice it was to have everyone together again and they had almost kissed again in the kitchen, he’d leaned over her to get the wine glasses from the top shelf and he’d nearly dropped one on her head and he’d rubbed her cheek with his hand and when he’d gone to move it away, she’d placed her hand on his and they’d leaned in, closer and closer and then the door flew open and Kate had come in…
Sophie had froze and fled and Benedict had been lost in his own world as Sophie had gone to help his mother clear the cakes away and that was when his siblings had started. He knew it was from a place of care and love and Kate had backed him up but when he snapped at Colin “It doesn’t matter what it looks like. It was 3 months two years ago. It meant nothing. If she means nothing to me she should mean nothing to you! She’s Kate’s friend, so we have no choice but to be nice to her” he’d known it was a lie. It was said in a panic and was the only thing he could think of to get his siblings off his back.
It was a lie, every word but his siblings didn’t know what it was like. To love someone who just… left you high and dry without even giving you a proper reason. He just wanted them off his back.
He wasn’t over it. He was never going to be over it. He loved her. He was always going to love her. It had been everything to him and she meant everything to him now. He’d just hoped that maybe… just maybe that she felt the same way.
But after his outbreak and Kate’s scowl and threat of pain of death if they did anything to scare off her best friend and maid of honour… they’d backed down, just as his mother returned, a rather serious look on her face as she’d said Sophie’d had to leave for an emergency at the cafe and he felt disappointed that she’d left without saying goodbye.
What confused him even more was his mother asking Kate if she could have a private word with her.
Benedict had tried to message Sophie to ask if everything was okay but the reply didn’t come through until the following afternoon saying everything was okay and it was just a faulty oven.
He’d asked her if she wanted to meet up and discuss plans for the wedding but she said she had too much to do over the next few weeks… but they could text and it had upset him and he wondered if something had happened.
He’d tried to visit her a few days later but Phillip had just said she wasn’t there and she was busy… even when Fran, El and Colin had all tried to go to the cafe, none of them had been able to see her or allowed to see her, though Eloise was sure she’d seen the blonde curls duck behind the counter and disappear out the back before she’d entered the cafe and the entire thing just confused Benedict even more.
He felt like Sophie was avoiding him and when he’d asked her as much she’d replied saying she wasn’t but she was just busy as Kate’s wedding cake wasn’t the only one she was doing…
He felt forlorn and shattered and like she was pushing him away all over again and to top it all off, his mother and Kate were both being off with him and he had no idea why but he knew he had other things to worry about at the moment… tomorrow night was the hen and stag do and though they were going out separately they were all supposed to meet up and he was hoping, he was planning to try and talk to Sophie then, she was a friendly and flirty drunk and he had a bit of a plan… he just hoped that he’d be able to pull it off.
~*~
Sophie felt pleased with herself, she’d avoided anyone with a connection to any of the Bridgerton’s for a week.
She still had no idea if she was going to leave or stay once the wedding was over but she knew she wasn’t going to be able to avoid them forever.
She’d gone through the last five weeks in her mind, the way they’d grown closer again, laughing and joking over Anthony getting stressed about flowers and napkins for the tables. Talking about Benedict’s best man’s speech and they’d even talked about how they’d been instrumental in Kate and Anthony getting together once they realised they knew one another.
They had skirted around the subject of them, their past but they’d come close but never as close as they had in the Aubrey Hall garage.
They’d even nearly kissed twice. The first time had been an almost magical moment, Sophie had been showing him her designs for the wedding cake, it had been based on one of Benedict’s sketches, a drawing of Aubrey Hall and the pall mall game that had ultimately gotten Kate and Anthony together, it had been a magical day and both of them had been lost in the memory. It had been the first time Sophie had really met his family, they’d distracted one another during the game and they’d ended up in the tree house and spent the night below the stars, making love and whispering sweet nothings to one another…
Both of them had been lost in the memory, drawing closer and closer together and then Michael had burst into the office…
And then the second time had been the night he broke her heart again, in the kitchen where she’d been so close to telling him that she loved him, where she’d gushed to Violet that she had fallen in love with Benedict only two days before she’d left, before he’d broken her heart the very next day.
She’d hoped she’d be able to avoid any connection to the Bridgerton’s until the night of the hen and stag do’s but she had to know the Gods were not on her side.
She was sat in the office late the night before the Hen do, doing paperwork and balancing her books and she’d assumed that Michael who had been on the late shift had already left when her door flew open and when she looked up, expecting to see Michael in there with his usual smirk saying he was done and telling her he was off on a date as was the norm on a friday night but instead was greeted by the face of her best friend.
“Kate? What the hell are you doing here?” Sophie asked, confusion on her face.
“Well you’ve basically barred any Bridgerton seeing you all week and i know there wasn’t an emergency here last week when you left, though why Violet covered for you i’ll never know… but honestly Soph, i’m a bit worried about you and i wanted to make sure you’re okay” Kate replied
“I am fine, just busy getting all this done and ordering all the things for your wedding food and cake” Sophie said evasively.
“I get that, but that doesn’t explain why you’ve had the chuckle brothers saying you’ve not been here all week… at least to anyone who is a Bridgerton. Mary saw you in here yesterday” Kate replied
Sophie sighed “it’s complicated Kate, it’s just… been a bit harder than i thought seeing Benedict and all the Bridgerton’s again and I just… needed a bit of space”
This was close to the truth.
“I don’t get how it’s that complicated, I saw you guys, if i’d been a few seconds later I’m sure i’d have walked in on you snogging Ben’s face off…” Kate replied
Sophie sighed “it just is” she replied, avoiding mentioning that almost kiss.
“Soph, what the hell happened between the two of you… i’ve known you for years and you’d never been happier than you had been with Benedict…then you just… upped and left! I know you loved him, I heard you talking to Violet… So what the hell happened?!” Kate demanded, her arms crossed
“Nothing happened. It just… wasn’t working. It doesn’t matter if it is in the past. It meant nothing to him, it meant nothing…” Sophie swallowed, fighting back the tears “it meant nothing” she repeated, hoping that if she kept repeating it that it wouldn’t hurt anymore and that she herself would start to believe it.
“Bull shit” Kate called “Sophie, if it meant nothing you’d have not fled to France”
“I’d been planning to go before I met Benedict, I just postponed it. It was always in my plans to go…” Sophie said
“And you didn’t tell me?”
“I tried but whenever I tried to bring it up before Benedict you were just complaining about Anthony, even when you got together and I tried to mention it before we left Aubrey Hall, I tried to tell you… i tried to tell you what was going on, but…” Sophie said
“But I was too wrapped up…?” Kate said feeling guilty, wondering if Sophie had tried to talk to her about Benedict and what was going on there as well and she’d just been wrapped up in her new relationship, besting Anthony in Pall Mall… and everything in between.
Sophie just shrugged a sad heartbroken look on her face “it is what it is Kate, but honestly, don’t worry, it’s in the past”
Kate saw the look on her best friend's face and she knew there was more to this than she was letting on. She wanted to bring up that Violet had talked to her, that she knew Sophie had overheard Benedict’s tirade to his siblings but she had no idea how Benedict felt and she knew if she pushed Sophie into saying something to Benedict, about how she felt and he didn’t feel the same, though she was sure he did, it would shatter her best friend and she’d never see her again.
But she had to find out what had happened between her and Benedict in the first place, Violet had told her of her assumptions and theory and she knew she had to get Sophie to open up. To tell her everything…
There was one thing in this world that would get Sophie talking, to get her to tell her what was going on, something she’d learned at University and how she found out about this shit Araminta put her through…
And that thing was tequila…

(Tw: yellings, mentoins of dizzy spells and double standarts ) Hi, can i ask your ipoin on something? So here it goes when someone tells you something that you did worng and they also do the things that they told you worng like not putting your plates on the table and leaving bread on the table, or when you are having like snack while you eating it making it mess then not cleaning that mess up, this was what excatly happens when my dad tells me my mistakes and he does them but when he does them its no problem for him but when we do it, its a huge problem, like yesterday he yelled at me for coming home early at 17:00 and my reasons was no one was coming and the dinner time was coming so i thought maybe i dont need to let hım know cus its already coming close to evening , so i come home and wear my pijamas, and my mom says he is tired and he wants to sleep , can you go back? And i say dont worry,no one came the office whole today , and nobody was coming and also after my dad saw me in my pijamas he let me stay at the home and go back himself , i get the fact that i has some vaild reasons and all, and i get it i messed up but he got really angry at me and yelled at me and my mom , for it and he also yelled at me for other small neccessery things, like leaving the tuna fish on its package, he yelled at me for being irresponsebale cus i leaved it there, and he also yelled at my mom for proceting me and saying that its wasnt a big deal cus i told her to leave it like that cus i was gonna eat it, but he kept yelling more and.more also he told me to shut up my mounth up too when i told him to calm down? And i had a dizzy spell at that very moment so i dont really remmber what i also said but i bulently remmber but still not sure of i said it or not so dont take it too seriously, i think i said " im not giving you demands " or something like that, and i all i remmber is that him yelling at our faces, like i aggree the fact i done mistakes cus lets be honset am not perfect but when he says our worngs to us like the tuna fish one, he does it himself as well and i think it also drops the value of the things he says about our mistakes whatever is related or not, and even if he has a vaild reason about it too, it drops its value but whats your ipoins ?
My opinion is that based on this ask and previous ones you've sent me, your dad sounds like a mean, immature, toxic individual who needs to work on his anger issues. I don't think his behavior is fair at all

✱ SEOJIN'S JOURNAL ( 2006 - current )
This journal is property of Park Seojin. It contains sensitive topics and precious thoughts. If you find this, don't open it or else he'll come find you and take you to Suplex City! Go away.
Septembur September, 2006 The therapy lady said if I pretend I'm talking to God then I can write eeeasier. I dunno. Don't wanna talk to you right now buddy. Cuz somtymes sometimes I kinda wish you didn't make me so I'm upset at you. And I hate cake and I don't wanna blow out anymore stupid candelsles. It just makes me feel real mad. Speshully Especially when Miss Heejung tries to give me hugs. I don't want none of that I just wanna go back to my friends somtimes.
November 30th, 2006 Mr Dongwoo Dad said that the baby is gonna come any day now. I'm gonna be mad if the kid is born on my birthday no way am I gonna share. It's my day!! I want somethin that's mine.
December 25th, 2006 Didn't write in this thing cuz I forgot. Anyway. Christmas is real fun. I got an RC racer thing!!!!! It goes so fast hahahah!!
January 15th, 2007 The baby was really late. They called her Dahye. She looked at me kinda funny but she didn't cry when I hugged her.
September 3rd, 2007 I got moved to a different class and stuff. I wanna throw books cuz now I'm not with my friends. But the teach said we were dissruptin class or whatever. I get to sit next to a girl now and she stuck her tongue out at me so I stuck out my middle finger. Her name is Boram.
March 14th, 2008 Girls are weird. I gave Boram my chocolates cuz she gave me some and then she said she was gonna throw em in the toilet. Whatever. I didn't like her anyways.
May 21st, 2009 Hahahah!!! Jaehyuk hyung came to school today and brought a real lizard. Yep it was real I checked and everything. Haesung said we should dissect it but we were like no way. I wanna make it my pet. It looks so sick! Not sick sick but cool
June 17th, 2009 I bought a guitar!!!
November 27th, 2009 A weird lady said hi to me when I was walking home. She had really long hair and a funny smile. She looked real sick (the real kind) and said my name. Maybe she's one of them no homes people or a ghost or somethin
November 29th, 2009 The weird lady tried to give me a bag of chips and grab my hand. Did she think I was 5 years old or somethin. That shit don't work on 11 year olds. So I ran away real fast. Skinned my knee. It fuckin hurt.
December 1st, 2009 Stuff sucks real bad right now. I'm real sorry God. I don't wanna go back no more. I just wanna stay here now. I'm sorry.
December 1st, 2010 She called again. I can't have one day.
December 1st, 2011 Sorry I keep ignoring you. Lotsa shit is happening lately. That lady hasn't even read this since like 2 years ago. Why do I even bother? How did I do it again? Hi, God? Haha. I'm good, I guess. Bored right now. Eating some kinda bread dad bought in Japan. Way too sweet but whatever. Birthday went okay. They gave me a party and it wasn't anything special I guess.
January 20th, 2013 Got nothing else to do so I'm gonna write in this again. Fuck this city. Fuck everything. I don't wanna move and leave everyone behind. This sucks so fucking much. Seoul seems like it sucks anyway. But at least Jaehyuk is there... Ugh nevermind. It makes feel sick to write while the car's moving all over the place, and Dahye won't stop pinching me. I'm gonna give this kid a headlock.
April 30th, 2013 Some kid almost ran me over with his bike so I grabbed it and he fell on me. Buncha stolen shit fell outta his jacket and everything. Hahaha. He begged me not to tell anyone. I think he's a grade below me even though he said he's like 13 I think. Seems real smart. Name is Cheol... something. I guess he's ok when we started to talk but if he runs me over again I'm gonna pummel him for sure.
August 2nd, 2013 Mom had the baby today. The kid is real cute and she grabbed my finger super tight. I'm gonna be honest. I kinda felt like crying and stuff. She's real cute, Dasom. I wanna protect her.
October 12th, 2013 Jaehyuk wants to start a band or whatever. Know I never mentioned it before but I kinda like to sing and I know how to play guitar. I'll give it a shot. He introduced me to some guy named Taewoo from another school and I asked Cheol if he wanted to join, too. Here goes nothing I guess.
February 23rd, 2015 I asked Minkyung out. I know you don't know who that is yet, God. Sorry about that. I was being an idiot just being in my head instead. She's in the same class as me. She's got short hair like to her neck kinda length. It's really funny. The class was playing soccer and she kicked the ball at my head. She seemed real scared about it and she came over to check on me and grabbed my face. That's what it's like to fall in love right??
July 9th, 2016 Long time no see, huh? Lots of good news happened so far. Well, kinda. First, I'm still going out with Minkyung. :) Second, I entered a singing contest and I got 3rd place, so a guy with a card came up to us and all. He was from a company... entertainment company. Legacy or something. Well, I auditioned and made it. Cool, right? Weird, though... Didn't think this could be a thing for me. Well, I'm gonna mooch these vocal lessons and see what happens I guess. Taewoo won't stop calling me a fucking sell-out though. Bastard. Anyway... the next news is awkward kinda. Mom and dad decided to foster this kid. He's like 12 or 13 or something and he's already getting on my nerves... Feel bad for him though. I know what it's like.
June 14th, 2017 Shit sucks. What a joke. See if those fuckers mess with Hyunseung again. I'd kick their asses all over again until they leave him alone.
December 2nd, 2017 She called me again. I don't get why she just won't leave me the hell alone. I can't do this shit. I don't care if I'm her "real son". Why did she have to find me? You left me there for like almost 7 years and now you wanna keep trying.
March 1st, 2018 I decided to start over. It's for the best, probably. Dim is over. I left the company. Me and Minkyung decided it would be better if we broke up. I couldn't even look at her anymore after I went off the deep end and didn't wanna be around anybody for a while. It was like shit was falling apart and I didn't wanna be like that and hurt her. Then have to leave her. And the guys. I feel like shit. I don't even know if this is the right choice. I'm taking you with me. There's still a lot of space to fill.
March 28th, 2018 It's the fifth day of basics. A week in and I've got some smart idea to start a journal. Apparently it's supposed to be "good" for me as an outlet but like... For all I know, some guy will take it, read it, and make fun of me. Whatever. This is stupid. The food sucks.
March 30th, 2018 Guy named Jung Woobin joined today. Kind of a nerd, but he's in my temporary unit and the bed next to mine. Might as well make friends. He keeps talking about random shit. Maybe I can see if he likes Slam Dunk. Well, I'm not here to make friends anyways, am I? Nothing else interesting happened. Entries are gonna be short till something interesting happens.
April 5th, 2018 Week two. Not hype. Hate waking up fucking early. This sucks ass. Some guy lost his shit and ran off in some random direction. They labeled him as a deserter. Feel kinda bad for him. Just glad he wasn't in my unit.
April 8th, 2018 New recruits came. There was overflow in bunking so they stuck a guy with us. I get a chaebol smell off of him but he seems alright so far. Let's see how he does during the first week.
April 21st, 2018 I'm tired of this Kang dude. Nearly kicked his ass before we got stopped. What a prick. He snores when he sleeps, too. I'm gonna plug his nostrils.
May 1st, 2018 Transfer to marines unit today. Off to Pohang. Wish me luck.
July 30th, 2018 Finally got time to sit down and write. Shit's been intense. The C.O. is no fucking stickler. He makes our squad wake up up to an hour earlier than the others. Set our alarms as the wake up song that blasts outside. Today, I swear we got to bed at midnight and got up at 3:30am. Wanted us to get our rounds done early so we can get a head start into the MMA training so we're in top shape. Tomorrow, our platoon is supposed to meet with the American marines that are stationed here, too.
October 10th, 2018 My English isn't that great but I kinda talked to this guy and we became friends. Tall, wavy hair, super ripped. Said his name is Andreas like the fault line but I dunno what that means, really. I can just call him Andy, he calls me Jin. His Korean is pretty good, actually. Hahaha.
October 11th, 2018 We sat by the river when everything is done and he and his friend taught me how to skin a rabbit. Then, the guy said he was gonna go rock fishing ( I think, I couldn't get his accent but I think he was from Australia or something ) and pulled a catfish with his bare hands. I'm serious! Wish I coulda taken a picture...
October 14th, 2018 It's the last day of the collab camp thing. Andy gave me a book. D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths. I guess I should get better at English... But he said he's staying in Seoul after this. And his dad's got a boxing gym or something. Once I'm out, I'll check it out.
December 1st, 2018 They remembered my birthday. Never thought I'd get a Chocopie with a candle sticking out of it. Whatever works. I don't like sweets anyway and it's cold as balls.
February 13th, 2019 I'm on break for seollal! Came back home for a bit to see everyone. I know I saw them in between but still... This is nice. Chan must've gotten real tall over the summer. Dasom ran up to me and hugged me real tight. As for Dahye, she shook my hand. What a weird kid. I missed them so much. Gonna go spend time with them now. I won't forget you at home. Promise.
March 26th, 2019 A new guy joined us today. Real jumpy, that one. Said he got transferred to our unit for some reason he won't say. Rumor is that he tried to kill some guy and he's in a gang back in Daejeon. I don't believe it for a second. What a stupid story.
April 3rd, 2019 Caught Lcpl. Shin creeping around the place after dark not in his bunk. I got up to take a piss and he almost scared it right outta me. This is like the 2nd time this happened. Since our ranks are the same there's not much I can do. Should I tell the C.O.? Shit, why am I asking you? I don't think you would know what to do either.
April 17th, 2019 Fuck it, we finally ratted on the guy. The hell is he doing lurking around the latrines all the time... Must be some kinda weirdo. I guess that's why he was transferred. Shoulda kicked him out instead. Woobin said he saw him with a knife when he got out so I dunno what to think anymore. Lt said it isn't a big deal. That the guy's gotta be touched in the head, whatever that means.
April 22nd, 2019 Something or some dipshit keeps knocking on the barracks again. Can't fucking sleep. Shit sucks.
May 24th, 2019 Things were quiet for a while. There was a weird smell coming from the latrines and it wasn't cause of the crap they serves us. Found a dead bird strung up with shoelaces. Can't eat tonight.
May 28th, 2019 Can't sleep. Knocking again. The alarms went off. Glitch, I guess.
May 31st, 2019 Some shit went down. Two of the guys started wailing on each other outta nowhere. Screaming real loud about something. I didn't really bother trying to figure it out when we got them off each other. They were reprimanded. Only 9 of us, so this shit really stirred things up. Must have been some kinda disagreement. But everyone's fucking tired. Climbing drills are tomorrow.
June 1st, 2019 The ropes were cut. Or frayed. Or old, or something. It's my fault, isn't it? If I didn't pull so hard then Hwang wouldn't have fallen. Everything's okay. He said it wasn't cause of me. They took him out for a short medical leave. Hope he's okay. But I'm still shaking. I'd only tell you this kinda stuff, God.
June 5th, 2019 There's only 6 of us right now in the unit right now until the others get back. Feels real quiet right about now. No one really wanted to talk. Least, not to me. I still got Woobin but he seems like something's real wrong. Shin's got the world under his feet, though, the way he's strutting everywhere. Kept trying to show me his rabbit pelt. Freak.
July 7th, 2019 That fucking knocking again. A slam. Piss off so I can sleep already.
July 19th, 2019 It's raining. Real hard. Had to go fix something and found Shin out there doing... something. Whatever it is, he didn't like that I caught him and fuck I don't know what to do. It can't have been something bad, right? I didn't really see. It was dark.
July 23rd, 2019 I'm gonna kill that piece of shit. What kinda asshole takes a picture of my mom and just. He's dead. Next week. Mark my words, God. I'm confessing ahead of time if something happens. I'm kicking his ass when he comes around.
July 29th, 2019 The fucker still lives. Unfortunately. Opened my eyes and saw him hovering over my bunk. I swear. I saw it. How long was he standing there? How many days? Shouldn't think too much of it...
August 2nd, 2019 I looked over and he was just sitting up in bed like that. Awake. I don't think he ever sleeps, come to think of it. Woobin said the same thing. I started to keep my knife with my under my pillow.
September 6th, 2019 We woke up and Shin was gone from his bed. Nothing from the usual. C.O. came in and told us the military officers came and got him. Said what happened stays with us. They're making Woobin testify but he won't tell me what happened. Guess I'll never really find out. Gotta keep an eye on the news maybe later. Feel like I need to take 8 showers though. Maybe 10. Hopefully there won't be too much to write about now.
September 30th, 2019 Holy shit. Just a little bit longer and I'll be outta here. Sgt. Park speaking. Cool, right? I should have something positive here after all that. Everything seems like it's okay again. I think. I guess I thought about it a little more... All sorta guys come through here and you never know who's gonna end up being totally insane. I left out some details but, God, I'm sure you saw what happened anyways.
October 15th, 2019 One more month! I get to lead new recruits today. I asked Woobin to help and he still almost passed out running with us. Guess some guys really don't get that fit here, haha. Here's hoping we can still be friends when we leave. He's outta here next week... Gonna miss him something awful.
November 10th, 2019 I'm free!!! Gonna stay with the family again for a bit until we get my place figured out. Don't really plan on going to school or anything, but dad helped me find a job at some restaurant. I gotta go to Gangnam for it since it's all ritzy but it pays well. I'm kinda excited. Really feels like I started over again... Also, went to the bar still in my fatigues ( yeah, I know, I was lazy ). Craziest thing, the people you meet again. Some guy in uniform, another in a sparkly jacket. Funny where we end up.
December 2nd, 2019 Saw the guys yesterday. We got super smashed and they said I climbed a tree. Wait. Why am I still writing? Nothing interesting is going on. Let's not make this a habit.
January 8th, 2020 Nevermind. Something kinda crazy happened. Went to Vampire Den for the open mic night again. Just to sing. I got that card again. This shiny one. I guess I must have been outta my mind and had it in me to go for an audition. It was worth a shot. I'm almost at the limit they accept trainees. Fuck what am I doing? Shit.
January 9th, 2020 The call came. I made it. They said I gotta move into the dorms now. At least I got a couple months to myself.
January 20th, 2020 Shit man. So many kids around... This kid ( had a real unique name ) I'm roommates with said that he's graduating high school soon. Crazy... I think I'm in way over my head if this is how things are gonna be, but fuck it, right? At least I can still keep my job. Guess I'll just start making some friends around here. There's plenty of guys my age. Yushin's even here, too. Well, anyway. I don't gotta keep writing in this right now so see you later.
July 24th, 2020 Hey guess who's gonna be in a band again? Well kinda. It's still a bunch of practicing. We'll see what happens but I'm feeling optimistic, I think.
April 21st, 2021 This just in for another episode of Shit Sucks... They pulled the band stuff. I guess there weren't gonna be enough resources for it. Dunno what to do now. Feels like everything's crumbling apart around me. I can just hide away in my room for the rest of the year, right? Just not sure what they're gonna do with me now. Gotta get better at dancing. I'll do it later.
May 23rd, 2021 Shit just keeps happening. I saw her with someone else. I don't want an explanation. I'm tired of this push and pull shit. Going here and there without saying much. She lit my heart on fire and put it out with her fucking shoe. I loved her. At least, I think I did. I guess that doesn't matter now. Nothing should have come from that day and why did I even bother going through with it. Over and over again. Wasted my own heart. Nothing matters anymore, does it? Fuck it all. I should go somewhere. Don't look now, God.
August 17th, 2021 I guess some okay things can happen. But these blind dates the guys keep trying to set me up on are a waste of time. Better to not put in effort like that. Anyway, dad's heart thing has gotten better, too. He wanted me to start picking up his new medicine after practice every day.
September 19th, 2021 It's hard to want to sing again. Or want to do much of anything again. Maybe I'll get better by next year.
September 25th, 2021 Met this girl. Well, already did. Sometimes, she'd be at the pharmacy when I picked things up. There's dimples in her cheeks when she smiles at me. I mentioned I was interested in producing music and she asked me for some pointers. We're meeting next week so I can help her, I guess. Worth a shot. Come to think of it, I think we went to the same high school.
October 18th, 2021 She's cute. Fuck, I'm so screwed. I remember now. I sneezed on her in the hallway once. She said it was two times, but I don't remember the first one. We already talked a lot. It's weird. Something dangerous about her. I'll watch my step...
October 31st, 2021 I feel drunk even though I'm not. She said she liked me and I wanted to run. I think I already like her, too. I just can't be what she needs right now. I shouldn't be writing this stuff down. I'll save it for songs. My own head. See you.
December 5th, 2021 She said there's a beauty in being impulsive. She is coy and bold. She wants to kiss my cheek because something compels her to. She yearns to see me. I can't forget anything she says. She speaks in poetry and laughs in music. I don't flinch when she reaches out to touch me. So.. What now...? I kissed her on the shores of some snowy Sokcho beach. When she says now that there's nothing innocent about the way I kiss her with that smirk of hers. When she said she's looking for someone to break her heart because she's just being realistic. Not to feel burdened because I make her happy. She'll be patient for me. I think I might be going a little crazy. Emotionally, spiritually. She makes me want to sing again.
December 1st, 2022 Aside from one good thing, this year was kind of a bust. Hoping for a better one next year. Fuck, I'm getting old. Did they forget about me?
March 20th, 2023 Finally got a project! With actual songs. Not sure what it's gonna entail but ... here goes nothing, as usual. :)
March 30th, 2023 And when it comes to spring, I learned that it's made of heartbreak and not love.
August 12th, 2023 Fuck, what am I doing with my life? It's so close I can taste it but I can't help but feel like there's so much missing.
October 30th, 2023 What am I doing? Part two. Everything is all jumbled up. There's nowhere to put that anger brewing in my head. I almost messed up my hand because of it and ruined everything for myself. Might start writing some songs again...
December 1st, 2023 The first birthday I really felt like I deserved. I guess I made it this far, huh? And there are people who care about me, love me. It's still really overwhelming to think about, but looking back, this is what I always needed. And I should have been more grateful for what I have around me in the form of other people.
January 1st, 2024 I think it's gonna be a great year. Love is real.
January 14th, 2024 Oh. Fuck.

Abel nodded to himself. ‘All right. If you need to leave just tell me first and I’ll send someone to take over.’ Waiting and watching were his bread and butter but as long as Xavier needed him, Abel’s place was beside his demon.
Vincent was older than god and could handle himself just fine anyway.
“Come on, X. Let’s go home. Vincent’s got eyes on him.”
Xavier startled, vehemently shaking his head as a fresh rush of panic swelled. ‘No. No, I want to stay here.’
‘X, we can’t. It’s not safe for him or for us, we have to go. Vincent’s got him, we know exactly where he lives.’
‘I want to stay. Please, can we stay? Please.’ Xavier collapsed against his familiar’s chest again. ‘I don’t want to be away from him again. I don’t want to leave him. He needs me. Don’t take me away, he needs me. I’m begging you.’
Abel felt something catch in his throat, felt the sting of tears in his eyes. Xavier’s pain pained him and it killed him to refuse but what choice did they have? Zagan was too real a threat for Abel to give in, and the Xavier that wasn’t breaking down and wracked with grief and guilt understood that.
He would always spoil his demon, he would always give him whatever he wanted, but not today. Not right now.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, gripping Xavier tight and whisking them back across the world to the humid Bangkok night.
There was much debate from the familiar on whether or not he had the time or patience to make himself a nest. Could be hours or days until he saw that face again, and until then, what else was he to do? Argue with pigeons? Absurd. They could hardly string a proper sentence.
But Xavier wasn't far, and until the moment of his disappearance, Vincent felt a squeeze in his little heart. There was much to consider. Things he would never ask, no matter his curiosity.
Questions that involved harm. Xavier was the type of person to indulge in such affliction. In his own way, of course. Nothing as on the nose as flogging, burned cigarettes - why did he think of that? Oh, yes, a reaper. The only man to his knowledge to have ever used the demon as an ashtray.
But that was years ago. Abel would encourage a pragmatic outlet, strategy moving forward. Nothing so reckless as charging forth in the name of love and guilt.
But, until then, there was a nest to be made.

Funny story: today I rescued a chicken.
This got kinda long but it is fairly funny and has a happy ending. Also there is Thunder and Birds involved, but not in the usual way. And I have no one to give the blow-by-blow account of the saga to, and I Need to Tell Story. So dear friends, *drags you to sit around my figurative fireplace* enjoy my tale!
(Minor warning of reference to past animal death.)
Because the universe really does have a sense of humour, this all started when I was sitting outside, because it was a nice sunny day, while reading @gaviiadastra's 'Chicken Dad' series. (its great, Im only 5 chapters in, go read it!)
And then I hear loud chicken clucking noises. Which I am understandably very surprised to hear. There is some *looks at laptop* *looks up again* "What the fuck???"
So I go out to investigate. I find a chicken. A very cute, fairly large black hen with the slightest green sheen to her feathers. In all likelihood a Black Australorp.
Outside my yard, just chilling. And still bok-bok-boking loudly.
And I'm like, "huh." And wow, that was not just my imagination.
Now backstory time: My family used to keep chickens, a small flock of them living happily in our yard. I loved them very much, and I kinda still miss them even though it was years ago now. They also had ridiculous triple-barrel names.
Tragic backstory time: One of our chickens got eaten by a fox. (it was extremely upsetting, the chicken was our friend.)
There are also a whole bunch of outdoor cats around the neighbourhood, and a highway nearby, and generally a lot of dangers to escapee chickens. So I'm understandably pretty worried about this chook, because its also lateish afternoon and will get dark. And just leaving it there really doesn't fly with me.
Time for the rescue plan: I'm going to catch that chicken, then figure out where it lives and return it. Because I vaguely remembered some neighbours keeping chickens, and a door knock around should point me in the right direction. (Or if not, I get to keep chickens again, y'know, if it still needs a good home.)
I put shoes on, because stomping around in my slippers is likely ill advised, grab a crust of bread because it the best chicken attracting thing i can quickly find, and yell to a family member where i'm going, getting the underwhelming response of, "Uh huh, sure."
Plan A: Lure chicken close to me with bread and catch it once it is in arms reach.
There is some throwing of pieces of bread, me making inviting clucking noises (actually one of my talents, I have fooled people with it before,) me staying very still, the chicken slowly coming closer.
Eventually the chicken is pecking the bread piece from my hand. I take my moment. My fingertips brush feathers. The chicken runs off. Note to self: chickens are fast and I'm very out of practice at chicken nabbing.
Takes two through like eight or something: Lure chicken in, gain its trust, wait until it gets really close, then catch it.
And nope. The chicken is having None Of That. It still gets a fair bit of bread bits, thrown out around me. And its having a merry old time, wandering around, pecking at grass, and being adorable. (I really like chooks, they're cute.)
By this point my butt's gone numb and my shitty knees are Complaining. And I've been at this more than half an hour, like seriously, this chicken has mastered the art of 'close enough for snacks, but not close enough to get got.'
And I am Very Patient (in some circumstances, such as these, though not all), but I can also hear thunder as a storm is coming in. And this clearly isn't working. And the chicken is wandering away. And I'm at least ten times its size and supposedly the cleverer one here.
So onto Plan B: Get me close to the chicken. Catch the darned chicken.
I get up, shove the bit of bread in my pocket, stretch, then calmly walk after the chicken. Because panicky chicken could definitely out-sprint me. And we're gonna avoid that. I'm also hoping the whole 'persistence predator' thing pays off.
Additional context notes: I live right next to a park. Sort of. There's several metres of rocky cliff between the row of houses and the park. And a narrow strip of land between said cliff and houses. Which is where me and the chicken are, of course.
So there is the additional difficulty of 1) dont chase chicken off cliff (the chicken would be fine, its only couple of metres high and it has unclipped wings. Also would be new problem of chicken running loose in big park.) 2) dont fall off cliff because i dont want to explain it to family/curious strangers/paramedics that this was all because of a chicken.
There is a lot of very careful manoeuvring. Some tactical retreats because that chicken really likes that cliff edge. An amount of bush bashing. Some strategic climbing of slopey parts where it's not so cliff steep. I run into sticks and tree branches and spiderwebs. I Follow That Chicken.
There is a stand off. A rout. I direct the chicken towards the houses and manage to corner it with a fence. And then I've got an armful of somewhat flappy chicken until I get the wings under control. Then I've just got a chicken. A very sweet chicken who is now pretty chill with being held.
Return of the Chicken: It's the first house I go to. I ring the bell, no one answers. I wander round the side a bit thinking maybe I ended up at the back door with all the chicken chasing. A dog spots me in the window and starts barking. So I stand there to wait for that to get someone's attention because I'm 90% sure its the right house.
Person appears in window. Me: *waves* *points at chicken*
Epilogue: It was confirmed that the chicken belonged there. The person was very grateful for the return of their chicken. And wasn't too put out by a rando showing up at the door with a chicken in their arms. Me in my red chequered flannel and possibly covered in leaves. The chicken did not have a name, I asked. I suggested Jailbreak as a suitable one.
I gave the chicken one last pat then handed her over (somewhat reluctantly. She was a very soft, fluffy, lovely chook) (and I named her.) (I really miss having chickens, if you can't tell that already.)
I went home and after a while it stormed, seriously like right on top of us with no break between thunder and lightning. Very glad I got the chicken before that. And got inside. I also won't tell you how long it took to find the bread still in my pocket but I'm very glad it didn't go through the wash. Now I blogged on tumblr about it.
And so the chicken rescue saga comes to an end, with all parties safe and dry and no one even fell off a cliff. Also I got to hold a chicken and that was a major win for my day!
*THE END*
#thunderfam#chickens#enjoy my ridiculous story and shenanigans!#commentary on my rescue skills is highly encouraged#also i could totally see one of the Tracy's being this silly#but I saved the chicken!
