chaotic ckr c6d squee propaganda (?) post
This, started half a year ago for @ds30below, was initially a general c6d short reviews post but kinda skewed majorly towards CKR's repertoire and wasn't too review-y. So I gave up on making sense and on including the non-CKR works. I don't know who the audience for this is, because I never give basic details for people who don't know about this stuff but say too much for those who do. I giffed what I could and tried to avoid what I know a lot about but haven't actually seen. Here goes.
Frank's Cock (1993)
Not much to say. It's only 8 minutes, it's beautiful and you should see it if you haven't. I won't spoil the subject, but you can likely guess. Watch it, cry a little. Then go watch some more of Mike Hoolboom's stuff, the vimeo link above is from his channel.
Two X-Files episodes (1994 – 1995)
Well, I haven't actually seen X-files since I was about fifteen and watched the like two seasons, and I remember none of it. I rewatched the two early episodes CKR appears in and they were fun. I did not watch the, the movie or whatever where he's doing the evil gay thing. But really, this one is on the list so I can show you this self-indulgent gif of him being Very Long:
Tumblr media
Double Happiness (1994)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You shouldn't watch this one for CKR. I mean, you absolutely should see him here, looking like he's barely out of his teens and playing up the insecure act and having devastating chemistry with devastatingly beautiful Sandra Oh, but this is not why it's great. And it's really, really great. It's touching and funny and sincere. If you wanna have some feels about complicated family relationships and identity and growing up (at any point in life), you'll find them here.
Curtis's Charm (1995)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't regret watching it, can't recommend. Not gonna lie, I was emotionally affected. But I usually am by things as in-your-face bleak as this. Mostly, it's trying very hard to be smarter than it is, I think.
However: CKR's One Wild Curl is everything to me (see above, on the right. It was, like, actually curly. I was rendered speechless). And like two seconds of Hugh Dillon made me do a double-take, lol. Incredibly weird knowing this was shot like half a year before HCL began shooting. Feels like it must've been a decade earlier.
Hard Core Logo (1996)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could make three separate posts about this one, so of course I have no idea what to say.
This one, you should watch for CKR, actually, he's something, but so is every single other aspect of this film. I wouldn't change a thing about it. It hits you like a 16 wheeler. Perfectly cast, unimaginably beautiful, hysterical and melancholy and disgusting and compelling.
Related recs:
A wonderfully fun article/retrospective/interview for its 20th anniversary a while back.
You should also absolutely read Hard Core Roadshow if you enjoyed the film. It's a book documenting the whole thing from conception to release. It touched me for its own sake, not just a backstage glance, full of love for the craft and the people and carrying this tangible bittersweetness about the heightened and fleeting nature of this kind of work.
(here, I feel compelled to include a quote from another c6d-related interview on Slings & Arrows, which I read after the book and went like man, it's really a universal experience isn't it.
Coyne: <...> But I also think, and this is my experience, what we were all experiencing, because we were all talking about our lives, our life in the arts — there’s something very melancholy about doing something you love, because it will never be good enough, it will always break your heart.
McKinney: Or it will be fleeting.
Coyne: It’ll be fleeting. You come together with people you feel passionately connected to and two weeks later they’re tearing down the sets.)
Quotes from the article and the book respectively include:
McDonald: So there was a kind of mutual dependency society with Hugh telling Callum, “Don’t worry, man, I got your back, I’ll tell you how high or low to wear your guitar, I’ll tell you how you should dress, I’ll tell you what you should drink…” and Callum was like, “I’ll tell you what hitting your mark is, I’ll tell you why they pull out fucking tape measures, I’ll tell you why you have to do it again, I’ll tell you about not overlapping dialogue..” and you know they clung to each other, like the other one was gonna fucking save them.
And:
A final gathering at the back of the tour bus with Bruce, Callum, Hugh, Bernie. We listen to the tape of HCL songs, all the way through, one last time. And we belt the words out. Bernie sings loudest, performing for Salerno's camera. Hugh and Callum sit back, looks of sadness. I get the sense that if they could do it, they'd chuck their lives and be Joe Dick and Billy Tallent forever. Callum leans to Bruce and says exactly what everyone else is thinking: "I don't want it to end."
There's much more to both texts than *gestures* the whatever those two had, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
And Xeriscape is the best HCL fic I've read. Granted, I read very few because it's not a source that creates in me a craving for fic. But this one perfectly matches the film's fucked up beauty with its language while also adding a quieter, more fraught layer of humanity that we only get glimpses of in canon and that perfectly fits John. 10/10, would recommend.
Anyway. Watch it. Read it. If you haven't. Otherwise, come scream with meeee! And go reblog my gifs or something. Idk.
Letters From Home (1996)
Mike Hoolboom strikes again, with another short. This goes into the "don't watch it for CKR, watch it because it's great" box. Yes, you will cry.
For Those Who Hunt The Wounded Down (1996)
Another bleak one! It sucked to watch, I mean, on purpose. There were a couple of very effective scenes. I really enjoyed the opening. They say the book is decent too, I haven't checked that out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Actually, let's just switch back from coherent thought to undignified staring at his mouth with this one. What the fuck is that cigarette thing. I couldn't help myself.
Last Night (1998)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These gifs are not representative of the whole movie. There is more happening than CKR kissing or hugging people. He's also doing more than just kissing and hugging. It's all very... impressive.
Guess who's also here again? Sandra Oh! And say hi to Don McKellar, who is an absolute champion for writing/directing/starring. You'll be seeing more of him.
Another one for the "watch it for its own sake" box. Seriously, that late 90s indie stuff is banger after banger. It's so beautiful! Look at those colours! Look at those shots! It's very uneasy and charming and melanchioly and itself in the best way.
Twitch City (1998 – 2000)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don McKellar is back to murder you with discomfort! Bruce McDonald lends a hand. Molly Parker is also here. And Daniel McIvor, who'd go on to direct, for example, Wilby Wonderful. It's a party. If you watched some stuff from above (or below) on this list, most faces and names will be familiar to you, tbh (another Hugh Dillon double-take happens).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you liked Spaced, you'll love this. You might also love it because it commits to its weirdness with an admirable resolve and is genuinely hilarious. (Honestly, CKR's outfits alone warrant a watch.) The idiosyncrasy is definitely Don McKellar's doing 200%. It couldn't be more different from Last Night, but if you've seen one, you'll recognise the other.
Battlestar Galactica (2003 – 2009)
Tumblr media
I don't think a person should be allowed to look this pretty in the sweaty-and-dying makeup in that light (this sentence probably looks very weird to those not under the CKR magic spell).
I don't know what to say about BSG because I really, really enjoyed early it initially, but by the middle of S2 it got... well, whatever that was. If you know you know, if you don't, still give it a go. You might get invested enough to suffer through it all, as I have been, slowly.
Tumblr media
The unfortunate thing is that CKR got to be there mostly in the "what the fuck" years and not the "wow that's so cool" years. That, as you might be aware, is a pattern with him. But! When he was here, he was so genuinely, wonderfully creepy not in the typecast-baddy way, but in this slow, half-absent way, which really worked. You can also see him tortured a little, as a treat!! <3
Tumblr media
Also, a wild John Pyper-Ferguson appears! If you're looking at him thinking you know him from somewhere but not immediately remembering, you'll figure it out, I believe in you. I was very happy to see him.
Wilby Wonderful (2004)
Tumblr media
Another win for the put CKR in more good shit team!!! Guess who's here again? Sandra Oh! Also, Paul Gross. Don't watch it for him either though haha.
Another one for whoever wants to look at pushing against the weight of others' (or your own) expectations and growing into who you are or reconsidering who you are or finding meaningful connections with others even when you're kind of a mess and they are too.
Not nearly the first time CKR's gotten to play a queer character, but man, this one really is the heart of the in-universe community, and, through that, of the film. A rare chance to see him so far out of the prickly persona! He's just so solid and calm and there for others in this one and, and soft, ough. It's awesome.
Tumblr media
By the way, if any of you have the commentary track or know someone who has, please drop me a line here or on discord (emotionalrisotto), I really wanna hear that.
Supernatural (2005)
I love Supernatural a lot. It was a formative experiences (albeit a very late one) and I owe a lot of my favourite stuff about fandom-ing to the buddies I met through it. I can't believe I'm telling you this (because who hasn't seen it, not because I'm reccing it), but you should really try it if you haven't. It's pretty rad.
Tumblr media
I had no idea who this guy was when I saw that episode (the second ever one!), though. I simply cannot fathom what @nigeltde-fic felt when she first saw it. I think I personally got very lucky she didn't combust on the spot. It would've been unfortunate.
On a sillier note, CKR's character has weird tension with both Sam and Dean in this episode, which is par for the course. I personally think they should've... no, I shan't say it. You can probably imagine.
Californication (2008 – 2013)
I haven't actually seen it, lol (and I suspect I won't enjoy it, but I'm very curious and also CKR looks really really good).
The real reason for this one on the list is to share a fic rec. Really, it's a due South F/K fic featuring Lew Ashby. It's ridiculously hot and very satisfying in its romantic resolution, too (but then, I'm kind of big on selfcest. And consensual voyeurism. And pretend relationships when done like this. And sublimated yearning. Erm.)
Shattered (2010 – 2011)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wish this never happened. I badly, badly wish this never happened. I can't turn back time, but I can warn those luckier than me: do not go there. Yes, even for this dude. You'll sleep better not knowing just what it is he was the EP on. And the only important part — the mascara — can be seen above (yes, the show does look that bad, it's not just the gifs).
Just kidding — I watched it, didn't I? You'll have fun hating it! Just prepare for industrial grade cringe, lower your expectations (No, lower. No, still lower than that. And just a bit more.) and you'll have a great time!
Star trek: Discovery (2024)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or, as I call it, Star Trek: The Mediocre Show. Discovery S5 was... what it was, but it was a wonderful viewing experience — mostly thanks to the gang (@kittkatk and @feroxargentea especially!)
What a joy it is, to follow a show week by week, yelling and laughing and discussing the whole time. And giffing, too. I was very happy to contribute to the Disco fandom from my own little obsessive corner, and I was glad to see people adoring Rayner, haha.
He's a pretty neat character — very much a stereotype, yes, but with CKR's usual twist of odd vulnerability and weirdness. Also, I loved the ears. I miss the ears. The ears were great.
I even wrote a fic! Although it's not within my usual range to write for canons and universes I don't know well — and back then, I'd only seen S5 of Disco. It was a lot of suffering, and a lot of fun.
Closing thoughts
I'd really love the dude to get a better agent. And possibly better taste, but I realise that's a tougher ask. Seriously, it's been too long since he was in something majorly cool. I'm grateful to him, at least, for not making terrible music on the side. And I still have a lot of his back catalogue to get through, some of it even good, so there will be more insanity. Until then!

Hi there! A little random Logos and pathos is one my fav fics you are so incredibly talented with your writing! My question is if you have watched star trek strange new worlds and what you opinion on the show is. I hope this makes sense. Hope you have a great day!!
I have watched Strange New Worlds, and here is my opinion:
It is entertaining, but, like a lot of Star Trek shows post TOS, it lacks the...fun? There's an underlying current of somberness that I don't go to Star Trek for. However, I did enjoy many of the episodes.
My biggest issue with it was the characterization of Spock. There's such a focus on his "love life" when there are so many other factors of his character that are more important. I think it is a disservice to him and all the women he is being set up with in SNW to focus on that. Nurse Chapel has feelings in TOS, that's clear, but she still does her job, she doesn't run from it. T'Pring decided to separate from Spock, and the "engagement" between them was never finalized, only made when they were young. And there's something between Uhura and Spock, and that should not be there. Uhura deserves to be her confident, independent self. And there's also La'an? Maybe? I don't know.
And it also doesn't work with Spock's character to focus just on romance and to build it in the way Star Trek shows and movies do. They don't do a slow burn or gradual discovery of feelings or anything akin to bonding (unless you count the obvious homoerotic undertones of Spock and Kirk). In the AOS movies he's already with Uhura, they don't build to it. In the SNW show, he's already with T'Pring. There's never any build to romance, and a character like Spock, any vulcan or emotionally reserved character in any show, actually, needs to be given time.
It wasn't all bad, I definitely had some fun watching some episodes, but here are my rambling thoughts.
(Also, as usual, Spock is written as way too cold and calculating while TOS has underlying warmth and obvious care if you look. I need my soft boy back)

star trek ask! 7, 12, 15
Hi! Thank you for sending me this ask!
7. When did you start watching Star Trek? ⏳
I watched TOS and its movies with my dad when I was 10 or 11, and then was at least 20 until I started watching the rest.
12. Do you own any merch? 👕
I do! I have a shirt with the Star Trek logo, and @73chn1c0l0rr3v3l got me a Unionized Rom button at a con!
A few years ago I had a shirt with Kirk, Spock, and Scotty as sheep with the phrase "where no sheep has gone before" that I eventually outgrew and gave to my brother.
15. Your favourite ship? 🚀
Discovery 😅 I love the spore drive and how advanced everything looks. It feels like a ship I could live on.
But I do cry a little whenever I see the bridge of the classic Enterprise.

Ok I'm not sure if the next episode is out yet but due to a current boycott of Paramount and Paramount+ I'm watching this from a pirate cove and I'd encourage you to do the same and without further ado live blogging of Star Trek Discovery and as always 🌟SPOILERS🌟
Season 5 Episode 7
It's doing the as seen in the last episode thing I forgot about the deal Burnham offered future bonnie and clyde
Ahh the Merian Class I like it feels both Federation like a even more futuristic Nebula or Stargazer class but also feels huge especially compared to the tiny ship it has in a tractor beam
Return of Nhan
Wait what's up with those all black uniforms it's not security looks vaguely like the black away team mission uniforms but not quite so what is it?
I like the judgmental looks from the security guard behind Nhan excellent extra
"You did this to him!" He literally fell on his own knife
Breen dreadnought haha going to the HQ of the Federation come on we all saw of DS9 did against a Klingon fleet or the HQ in Picard against the Federation fleet I mean how big bad and scary can a single Dreadnought be?
Breen Emperor sounds like a interesting fellow
A Breen royal family with a bloodline oh the classic Monarchy
Oh damn Rayner got kicked out of the room
Stamets passed that speech check wow
Oh My Reno
OH MY GOD That Breen Dreadnought is huge biggest then HQ, Discovery and Merian Class ship together that has to be one of the biggest ships in Star Trek considering how big Discovery is and all the drama in Trek Ship nnthusiast circles in how big the 32nd century ships are this Breen Ship has to be something else entirely good lord
Scans can't get through shields even with 32nd century technology damn
I like Book and Stamets friendship
Always good to see Reno
Ooooh T'Rina knows what your saying
Oh damn this Breen intrigue is interesting especially because the old 23rd century Breen were called the Breen Confederacy and confederacy means a confederation of separate entities so infighting between those separate entities is fun
Stamets again with the power of speech
Damn that Breen Medic looks cool with the logo and everything
I get Booker is trying to argue the classic it's wrong to sacrifice someone but she's the one who came up with the idea and is advocating for it
Oh wow I really love that perspective from Burnham comparing Rayner earlier outburst to her mutiny lots of self reflection maybe that is just because of the meeting your past self thing recently but still
Back to the Badlands we go I always thought it was one of the coolest looking locations in Star Trek
A great episode with lots of intrigue I really liked this one and the big bad Primarch is a fun villain and I'd prefer him to bonnie and clyde for being a big villain of the season sorry for any spelling mistakes I'm tired and I know the new episode is out I'll live blog that one later

Some interesting tidbits from SDCC 2023 for Picard from this post:
Liz Kloczkowski and Kit Stølen from the Picard S3 production team. Although it does seem like across the board Picard S3 crews have been mentioning the smaller budget, which I don't think I've heard from seasons 1 & 2. I wonder if it's because Paramount decided to do a simultaneous production.
Liz Kloczkowski and Kit Stølen were there (hosted by Larry Nemecek) showing off behind-the-scenes pictures. Some that have already hit the internet before, some that haven't. Photos of props, art, and sets, and their inspirations for each. Lots of production fun facts, like how Soong's S2 Lab became the Elios became Daystrom Station (iirc), and how much of the Shrike is reused props. Explained how they were able to stretch a relatively small budget a long way in classic Trek tradition. Several of the environments in S3 were the same sets with the internal contents swapped out and partitions put up.
(Also, I never got why Kurtzman wanted all three seasons to be vastly different from each other. In an interview, I listened to... escapes me now if it was from All Access Star Trek or the other youtube interviews. I guess Kurtzman really wanted that anthology feel originally conceived for Discovery).
From the post, I like that they kind of make a Borg crest/logo although we haven't seen them but its interesting in a worldbuilding POV.
It didn't make sense to Kit that the borg would have an artistic emblem so when they incorporated it into the environment they tried to make it look like it was part of the circuitry with a purpose and not just a logo stamped on a wall.
Also, the really interesting bit here:
There were a bunch of cannibalized Borg parts all over that shady alien market set to make it seem like the citizens of the galaxy had been basically feeding on the Borg's corpse for a while now, reusing salvaged borg tech for whatever personal needs, but Kit says he doesn't think much of that ended up on camera
It's so fascinating how Borg's terrifying and brutal campaign to assimilate every distinctive culture and technology into their own Collective, and now everyone is using salvaged Borg tech for their own use.
It must be so conflicting for Seven who was raised in the Collective and was harmed by it, to see this happening. A conquering, brutal empire reduced to salvaged parts, but also 'Borg technology' is really technology cobbled from civilizations they conquered and assimilated. It's almost cyclical. What comes around, goes around.
I know most people are done with the Borg but they remain fascinating to me.

Epilogue
One and a Half Year Later.
Nia squeals in anticipation. Loki and Bucky stand from their seats the loudest hoots and cheers from their seats.
Stephen Strange is all smiles as he reads out Y/N’s name. Emery holds up her degree beaming brightly at their friend.
Y/N walks across the stage, heart full of happiness and love, finally completing her degree. The thick folder graces her hands. Happy tears as her fingers trace the university’s embossed logo.
She meets them all outside, her parents travelling for the ceremony. They are all smiles and full of brimming pride. Some relationships still stung but she no longer focused upon the hurt. Instead she chose to move ahead, onto the brighter people who flooded love and light into her life.
The bonds tug at her, she turns away from her parents. Loki and Bucky dressed in suits walking towards her holding a bouquet of flowers each. Nia takes the degree from her hands, recording the video as her best friend runs towards her mates.
Loki and Bucky hold onto her as she hugs the both of them, “I did it!” She cheers, laughing.
“You did it, love.” Loki kisses her cheek.
“We’re so proud of you.” Bucky kisses her other cheek.
They embrace for a while longer before they part but not too far, always close enough.
“Flowers for our little graduate.” They beam at her, basking in the happiness that resonates through their own chests.
“Thank you.” She kisses their cheeks.
Bucky frowns, “What no real kisses?” He pouts, making her roll her eyes.
“Such demanding professors.” She shakes her head but stands on her tiptoes to kiss Bucky and then Loki.
Bucky cups her cheek, his rings cool against her jaw, “Wasn’t that hard was it, Poetess?”
“You’re an insatiable vampire, Warlock.” Loki murmurs, making the two laugh.
“I hope you all will attend dinner.” Emery reminds as they make their way through the crowd. Their coven members nod. It was a small coven but was their family.
“On our way there.” Loki assures, heading to where Y/N’s parents stood with Bucky to guide them to the dinner venue.
Nia waits back with Y/N.
“Im happy you made it back for graduation.” Y/N loops her arm through Nia’s. The vampire smiles at her best friend.
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
“How are you doing?”
“Today is about you.” Nia reminds.
“Yes, then I demand to know about my best friend.” Y/N argues.
Nia shakes her head, “Ditched the alcohol, had meaningless hookups, trekked up the highest mountains, deep dived the deepest oceans, travelled alone and with acquaintances. However, my cloud bed is the most comfortable.”
“You miss sleeping the most don’t you?” Y/N chuckles, Nia groans longingly.
“So much but now I’m back permanently. How are you coping with the longer stay in Romania?” Nia changes the subject.
“I’m excited, we went there during Christmas, Bucky is eager to begin restoration on the house.” Y/N smiles, “I’m happy, he can help the place heal.”
“So he’s a high priest now?”
“Well technically, Moonmy–,”
“The moon who is also your mom.” Nia adds with a laugh.
“Yes so when the transfer occurred, Moonmy intervened right? We presume Bucky is now part Celestial since he did retain his magick as a vampire. He has a recruit too, the star tattoo apparently is a guide to this new coven. The recruit also lost his coven to Alexander. Bucky thinks he’s probably going to get more members who are from lost covens.” Y/N explains, Nia nods.
The entire discovery of Bucky being a High Priest worried them, but with the retention of his powers and his own drive to want to make things easier for other witches and warlocks cemented the fact that he is fit for the role.
The intention to honour his own lost coven, by rebuilding the ruined home in Romania was one of the first few steps in the process of setting forth the path of the type of High Priest he wanted to be for the coven.
Bucky gazes across the great hall, easily finding his mate in conversation with Nia. Loki hands him a paper cup with the switched out drink.
“Professor.” Loki teases, Bucky shakes his head and takes a sip.
“Is this ever going to get old?” Bucky muses, making Loki chuckle.
“You’re the youngest person to be recruited in the History Department’s history. It will always amuse me.”
“Though I do have a smidge of regret not being able to hold the position for longer, given our upcoming move.” He sighs, looking down at the drink and then across the hall.
Loki observes Bucky looking at Y/N.
“She is happy about the decision, excited even.” Loki assures his mate.
“I know I can feel it, sometimes I worry however if it will serve as a reminder of what she could not have despite being a witch.” The warlock-vampire traces the rim of the glass.
“James, if by some miracle she could have a kind High Priest as you she would have loved her powers and felt more connected to her heritage. I know you would have made her feel accepted and safe.” Loki’s lips brush over his temple.
Bucky nods, “I would have made her feel as safe and accepted and loved as she needs.”
The two watch as Y/N  makes her way over to them, her plate stacked with the small sandwiches she enjoyed and chatting animatedly with Nia about their post graduation trip to explore Europe before heading to Romania.
Tumblr media
“Maybe I’ll come with you guys to Romania, to help out.” Nia suggests at the end of the night as they are walking into the house.
Loki and Bucky walk behind them conversing about the furniture shipments and when they will be arriving at the Romanian Coven House.
“You could, yes.” Y/N smiles, “It will be fun!”
The door opens before they ring it and Nia pauses midstep, a soft tickle on her forearm moves upwards as though a spider climbing up her skin. A soft wisp of a web string.
Nia looks up from her forearms to the man standing at the door.
His brown eyes accentuated by his glasses, hair floppily messed up. He smiles at her and then his lips part when their gazes lock.
“H-how?” Nia questions, Y/N only smiles recognising the emotions playing across both their features.
“A gift from Moonmy.” Bucky explains as they head inside.
“Peter, this is Nia, Nia this is Peter. He’s from New York City.”  Y/N introduces.
“Your favourite city.” Peter vocalises her thoughts.
“Yes…” Nia looks at Loki.
“You deserve to be happy Nia.” Bucky says holding his hand out to Y/N, “The patio is very cosy this time of night.”
Y/N takes her mate’s hand and enters the home, the three of them allow the young warlock and vampire to have moments alone.
Peter blushes, scratching the back of his neck, his rings gleam in the soft light.
“Do all warlocks wear rings?” Nia walks closer.
“It is part of our aesthetic.” Peter chuckles.
“Cute.”
“You’re cute.”
Peter raises a brow, “Cute? I can change that.”
“Change what?”
“Your thoughts that they're cute.”
“How so?” Nia raises a brow.
Peter smirks, “The way you want to change my thinking that you are cute.”
Nia rolls her eyes, but leads him towards the patio.
Tumblr media
Three and A Half Years Later
Y/N opens her eyes, her mates are near. She can tell from their amplified scents alone. Sitting up, her gaze falls to her hands. There is a small crescent on her right wrist. Her eyes move to Bucky; he stands at the door with Loki.
He holds up his wrist, his mark now missing but placed onto her.
“Baby vampire and baby witch.” Loki explains, handing her the bottle of blood. She drinks it eagerly, the snow outside picks up. Then more till her hunger satiates, the bonds thrum stronger.
The house withstands the storm better after the renovation. Bucky admires the mark on her wrist, he would give her initiation she deserves, the patience, the care. He would do everything for her and they have all the time to hone her skills.
Her eyes move to the ottoman, the small pillow on it, her gaze narrows. Urging for it to levitate, it does.
“I get a do over?” Her focus breaks and her mates move to her, smiling as they cup her cheek and run their fingers through her hair.
“You’re going to get the initiation you deserve, Poetess.” Bucky assures.
“Also having vampire sex with a High Priest is very scandalous.” Loki playfully adds, Y/N giggles as Bucky rolls his eyes.
“You enjoy every moment.”
“True, I do.”
“So what would you like to do first, Witchling?” Loki gestures to the door.
“The two of you?” Her eyes grow dark and the red rims surround her irises.
Her two mates follow suit, to the first night of forever.

I really miss when Star Trek shows had distinct and coherent title fonts. The only one that gets away with using the TOS font for the "Star Trek" part is SNW because they also use the same font for the rest of the title. Especially Prodigy and Lower Decks have such nice fonts for their series title, why can't they use that for the "Star Trek" part too? It's really sad that the first two seasons of Discovery were the only ones with that luxury :(
Also one kinda neat thing I noticed is that both SNW and Prodigy have the Starfleet command department thingie in their logos

Lieutenant Commander of hearts
Star Trek Discovery’s Delta badge with a heart emblem. Custom design in regards to Lt Cmdr Hugh Culber being referred to as the “heart of the crew” of the ship U.S.S. Discovery by Wilson Cruz himself.

YOOOOO!!!!! I got them all done BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!
I did all the star trek logos as typography practice. I did the all through observation and measurement, mostly eyeballing the shapes and forms of the letters. I did these by hand on a tablet in photoshop.
My weakest one is still the TNG logo, because i fucked up he proportions on the subtitle and didnt feeling like fuckin around with it anymore. I really like how the Discovery logo came out, even though it sorta matched TNG in the difficultness of the proportions.
annnnnndddddd.... i made a video of part of Discovery :D

Trailer tsunami
With all the character trailers in the recent days, I am sure a lot of fans are super hyped up now. I’ve already seen a bunch of screencaps, gifs, videos, tweets and whatnot. So, I try to approach the trailers a bit differently and just point out what I noticed after I watched them for the second and third time. Plus some thoughts about Pike in the end. My observations are in no specific order, they just follow my scatterbrained pattern.
Caution: Long post (no wonder after so many trailers!)
Uniform chatter – continued
The male skant is back. If you are very observant, you might have noticed a guy wearing a skant during the wedding scene in Pike’s promo trailer:
Tumblr media
Where is waldo?
Tumblr media
(I brightened the pic up a bit so you can see it better)
You actually don’t even have to ruin your eyes to find a guy in a skant. I think Chief Kyle (played by André Dae Kim) is wearing one in the Hemmer promo trailer:
Tumblr media
There seems to be a variant for the male version, with black shoulder accents (which are missing on the female ones and also on the male one from the wedding scene).
Tumblr media
Looks like the shoulder accents go all the way down the upper arm for the male version. Or maybe it’s also a onesie (see blelow). Also, seems Kyle is an Ensign (no stripes and no cadet badge).
Cadet uniform gives me serious Star Trek Online vibes:
Tumblr media
This looks almost like the default uniform in STO.
New tactical vest now shows divisions. In Discovery, the tactical vest was black for everyone, in SNW the tactical vest has an armor plating in the color matching the division of the wearer. So Pike’s is gold while La’an’s in red:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gotte love me some Pike in action…
Tumblr media
Away team combat armor. Apparently an away team expecting trouble doesn’t just beam down with an armored tactical vest. A light full body armor completes the combat gear. It looks water resistant, seems to be a tight fit and comes with a very cool Starfleet badge on the upper arm (cosplayers will be so busy):
Tumblr media
I am not sure if this armor is capable of producing a space helmet.
The EV suits seem to look differently:
They also come in the divisional colors, but they seem more shiny and they have the Starfleet logo on top of the plate. At least in La’an’s case.
Tumblr media
Uhura’s EV suit somehow doesn’t show the logo.
Tumblr media
While Hemmer’s does. BTW, I like the detail of Hemmer wearing the hood. We do know that Andorian/Aenar’s tentacles regrow, but why risking them being cut off by activating the helmet if you can avoid it?
Tumblr media
Interestingly, Spock’s EV suit is all black:
Tumblr media
Or the lighting is just so unwelcoming to the color blue…
Away team jacket. I am not sure what the rules are for the away team to wear armor or just the jacket. Maybe they wear the jacket if they do not expect (that much) trouble. Whatever the reason, I absolutely love the jackets. They also seem to be adaptable depending on the weather. They either come as a normal jacket:
Tumblr media
Or they are more suitable for cold/rainy weather and come with an attached hood:
Tumblr media
The awesome patch is also on the jacket.
This jacket definitely deserves more observation. When zipped up, you can see some V-pattern on the chest:
Tumblr media
I also love the scarfs that work so well with the overall outfit:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And snow goggles…
Captain’s quarters
We actually get to see quite a bit of the Captain’s quarters.
Tumblr media
Pike’s quarters are HUGE! And he has a chimney??? On a starship? How does that even work? Also… Pike actually looks tired here.
Tumblr media
Yep, it is a chimney!
Tumblr media
Such huge quarters… looks like a megasuite!
Tumblr media
Kitchen in the Captain’s quarters!
Tumblr media
Big kitchen!
Chapel’s onesie. It’s neither a skant nor a jacket and pants. Chapel is actually wearing a onesie:
Tumblr media
And she rocks it!
Tumblr media
Pike channels his inner Elvis.
Tumblr media
Or Johnny Bravo… (I’m sorry Anson!).
Tumblr media
Everything is new on the Enterprise?
Pike’s crew seems to be partly renewed. La’an and M’Benga introduce themselves to Pike, while Pike welcomes Uhura and Chapel aboard the ship (sorry, I have no screencaps for that).
Also, we see the Enterprise leaving spacedock:
Tumblr media
I’m not sure if they are repairing the damages from the season 2 finale of Discovery when the Enterprise looked like this:
Tumblr media
They also showed in Discovery how the Enterprise was repaired. So maybe this is another visit to the spacedock.
Either way, with Enterprise being out of commission for repairs/refitting it would also match Pike’s timeout/vacation and allowing him to channel his inner Santa (sorry again, Anson!).
Tumblr media
Additional badge for Ortegas.
I am not sure what it is, but at one point in her trailer Lt. Ortegas is wearing an additional badge above the normal Starfleet badge:
Tumblr media
Patient’s name
The patient’s name is Rukiya. According to IMDB, Rukiya will show up for at least 3 episodes in season 1. Interesting!
Tumblr media
Pike pondering his fate
Tumblr media
The first teaser with Pike hiding in the back of beyond already hinted at his inner fight. What does knowing your fate do to you? In Discovery he seemed fine in the season 2 finale. Granted, with the fight against Control there wasn’t much time to think about his own fate. But later when Spock returned to the bridge all shaved and in uniform, Pike seemed happy to see him and he looked fine.
However, this doesn’t mean he is doing fine all the time. I can speak from experience. You can still function and even appear to other people completely like your normal self, while in truth you are deeply troubled inside.
I often hear critics about the new Star Trek shows, how giving all characters a troubled background is “lazy writing”. For Pike it all makes sense though. “Through the Valley of Shadows” IMO is one of the most important episodes of all Star Trek because it defines what Pike is all about. It adds to the explanation why he became one of the most decorated Star Fleet officers and even has a medal of valor named after him. But if you show such an episode, it should also be clear to the audience that such a fate cannot have no effect on the person.
I like that the writers let Pike question himself. He is apparently unsure what to do with this firm knowledge of his fate (which in part he misinterprets, but I’ll get to that in a bit). Will he take bigger risks? Or will it makes him hesitant? We’ll have to wait and find out.
The fact that he consults Spock is also interesting. It pays into their close friendship as it is revealed later in the TOS episodes “The Menagerie”. Spock is risking his life and career for Pike. There must be a reason why he feels so close to Pike. So, Pike telling Spock about his fate makes sense. But maybe this wasn’t so voluntarily. We already know of 2 people on board who are able to read minds, Spock himself and also the Aenar Hemmer. Or maybe Spock confronted Pike after he acted not his usual self or risked himself unnecessarily. We don’t know yet.
Will Pike keep this knowledge throughout the entire show? Or could we see another “Requiem for Methuselah” in SNW?
There is a problem with Pike knowing his fate. If he knows his fate, he knows he cannot die before that moment of his vision comes. That could lead him to risk his life way too often even to the point where he unintentionally also risks the ship and crew.
This leads me to his partly misinterpreted vision. He says he knows exactly how and when his life is going to end. I am not sure how exactly he concludes the “when”. All he knows is that he’ll be a fleet captain and he’ll be on a cadet vessel. But he does not know when he’ll be promoted and he does not know when he’ll be on that vessel.
We already know that the accident will not end his life. However, for him there is no way of knowing that because the time crystal didn’t show him what is going to happen after the accident. His conclusion that his life is ending makes sense for him. He does know what the explosion was. He does know that his initial injuries were just some burns. And he does know that he later becomes defaced and wheelchair bound with lung support. So it makes totally sense for him to believe he was poisoned by delta radiation and his body is going to deteriorate even further to the point until all his organs will fail and he’ll die.
From his point of view he knows he’ll die. That makes a huge difference to knowing that you’ll be disabled. What are you going to do with your life in the here and now if you know in maybe 10 years tops you’ll be dead? Do you still allow yourself to fall in love with someone (or admit your love to say... Vina), knowing your partner will grieve for you? Do you still have life goals? Do you still allow yourself to enjoy things, knowing it’s possibly the last time you’re doing it or you’re simply questioning the sense?
I actually hope for another Requiem for Methuselah; I wouldn’t want to see Pike fighting his inner demons throughout the entire show. But that is just my humble opinion.
And congrats if you read thus far. You are more patient than I am. :P

Memories from the betrothal
Fandom: Star Trek (reboot) Timeline: AOS (2.0) Series: Reboot fancasting (Kristin Kreuk as AOS!T'Pring) More: Uhura, T'Pring, Uhura ships (Chauhura, Sphura)
Two captured moments of T'Pring and Nyota Uhura's betrothal ceremony.
In a future post Beyond, where Spock accepts the ineluctable truth of being subject to James Kirk's gravitational pull and stops resisting, Uhura discovers that she really is meant to marry into Vulcan, just on the opposite site of the biological spectrum she planned.
Jim, Scotty, Chekov and cadet ensign Jaylah are somewhere trying to drink each other under the table. Spock is very embarrassed by his mate and is probably closed in some bathroom asking to his own reflection why again he decided to get himself lured by the captain's tempting mind after he and Nyota parted ways - and yes, perhaps why he let Nyota go in the first place.
———————————————————————————————
Something thrown together for @uhuramonth.
The girl smiling at the arrival of the couple in the first manip is Cisley Saldana, Zoe's sister: I wanted to manip Zoe's mother as Uhura's mother on that woman raising the glass, but Asalia Nazaro has a very different body structure, and it felt disrespectful to place her head on a "fitting" body, when she's plus size. So I decided to include Zoe's sister and turn her into Uhura's sister.
In this house, Gaila is alive and eventually returns to the Enterprise (as hinted in the comic series), and Darwin and Carol (and 0178) weren't cancelled in the rush to erase all Into Darkness existence for Beyond (in this house we love Into Darkness, but it's has become a very controversial statement to make). I'm ready to fight on this. (ง'̀-'́)ง
Killjoys is basically a go-to for Star Trek manips. Seriously, take a look at the gallery at Far Far Away. When I've seen pics from this specific scene my mind went to T'Pring and/or Vulcans, but I didn't know how to use them. Actually, the purple/blue dress would be perfect for Amanda (she has a hairstyle that I'm sure Amanda, either TOS or Discovery, had) but, alas.
———————————————————————————————
Tec stuffs (aka Behind The Manip) Foreword, at first it was just one manip, the second. It was a challenge but nothing was particularly harder. It did take me a good hour to hunt down Zoe and Kristin pics (and eventually I found that I had a better Zoe saved on and old Stock folder, duh!), especially Kristin was hard to find from that specific view/side: actresses tend to take pics either front, turning back, or side-view with head slightly turned to the camera. The idea to turn the other characters into Star Trek characters came a day later, when I was actually starting with the manip (day before I researched pics and did a unrefined attempt to see if they fit). I'm actually pleased for how Cho looks - the perfect pic happened in the search first rows! - and Aisha Hinds/Darwin looks so hot. The idea to make another piece - the first posted - came right one day before the date to post. I love how Uhura turned, very regal - it took me a while, and only a stock photo with all the logo plastered on it, but I found the perfect Zoe both for angle and facial look. I also love how T'Pring turned out, and I even managed to replicate TOS!T'Pring's eye shadow.

Due to a current boycott of Paramount and Paramount+ I'm watching this from a pirate cove and I'd encourage you to do the same and without further ado live blogging of Star Trek Discovery and as always 🌟SPOILERS🌟
Season 5 Episode 3
I knew it's a unpopular opinion but I like the design of the 32nd century ships they feel so advanced from regular trek that it really helps out the feel of being so far in the future
A joined Trill oh how lucky we are imagine if it wasn't and the trail just went cold
God Damn the Crossfield Class is getting some great angles here
Trill Zhian'tara time
Oooooh I like Saru new diplomat outfit
Giving Saru a plant is nice and fitting
Ah Rayner is getting along with the Discovery crew like a rusty nail and a uncovered foot
I like this Jinaal Bix seems a bit untrustworthy but I'm liking it
Is that a Selay? I always thought they looked cool wish we'd seen more of them tbh
I looked it up my complaint from last week has been solved all that odd looking aliens from the background of 32nd century Discovery have been named! The wonderful Facian, Deakohn, Ckaptir, Sarrotheyn, Schlerm and Hornish all have names and even logos now yipee!!
Mr. Duvin your sounding like the Vulcan purist yourself 🤨
Saurians are Asexual damn just like me for real
Adira and Gray break up? :(
I heard a rumor that Paramount was purposely ending any lgbt representation on Nu-Trek from Seven and Raffi on Picard, Mariner and Jennifer on Lower Decks and SNW didn't have any to erase anyway but I personally always thought that was the reason Discovery got canceled was all the lgbt representation baked into the show you can't get rid off or write off
Saru noooo don't listen to Druvin noooo
Yes T'Rina saw straight through Druvin fear mongering
Twas all a test of morality Bix? I actually like that
Awww Saru apologize
Slug-O-Cola??
Tzenkethi space you say
I'm not big on the game Star Trek Online too much fighting not enough exploration but I did like the appearance and lore they gave the Tzenkethi but I doubt they'll appear on screen but I also wouldn't be too bothered if Discovery went their own way with it
I'm liking the optimism of the future theme this season has so far
A tracking device I was wondering how the bonnie and clyde duo would keep up because I doubt that they'd pass any test
Another really good episode I enjoyed quite a bit and while I've always been neutral towards it Saru and T'Rina has been growing on me
Small edit: I just read Lower Decks is also canceled after 5 seasons maybe it's just the new thing also I forgot to mention how happy I was to see Reno again

star trek art direction things i think about a lot
clothes with a ship-specific logo (enterprise ballcap, discovery workout shirts)
open cargo elevators (voyager engineering, ds9 ops)
weirdly shaped glasses and cups
those odd looking forks i remember them using a lot on tng for some reason
ankle boots that are the same color as the pants you wear them with
starship carpeting
stylish but incomprehensible ship UI
unnecessary shiny fabric
the rope lighting under the tng sickbay beds
that one specific industrial purplish grey color they use for costumes sometimes. does anyone know what i’m talking about
the soothing aura of 90s-00s trek upholstery fabric neutrals
