This specimen of Cotinus 'Grace' (smoke tree) has been grown on a single stem. This vigorous deciduous shrub has purple leaves which turn reddish colour in autumn, and has feathery pink plumes of flowers that resemble smoke especially when backlit.

This distinctive flowered Pelargonium (geranium) cultivar was greeting visitors to this house. A porch provided shelter from the wind and rain but enough light for growth. These plants can tolerate some drought and so are forgiving if watering is forgotten but must not be over watered.
