November 29, 2018: Four of Knives
The Four of Knives is a pointed reminder that this is a time where we need to take time for ourselves, withdrawing to garner strength for what is ahead and allow ourselves to evaluate a situation fully.

November 19, 2018: Student of Vessels
It is important to allow yourself to be in touch with your emotions & creative processes at this time, risking vulnerability & healing. The worlds of emotion & intuition are not clear, their tides may conflict, & the destinations may be unclear, confusing, or scary. Still it is important to trust your intuition and the universe, knowing the wisdom gained in doing so is ultimately an important part of your journey.

November 23, 2018: 10 | Fortuna
Fortune is a card of blessings and of change: both of which can be frightening prospects. It asks us to look around us & be aware of opportunities coming our way, and it warns us that change is happening. If we embrace this change and act in accordance with our highest selves we will be able to make the most of the turning of the wheel, if we resist we rob ourselves and those around us of the blessings the universe may yield.

June 29, 2018: Visionary of Vessels
*As a reminder you can find a description of the suits & court cards of the Slow Holler tarot in this post
Let your song be the song of the world. Feel your heart beat in unison with your friends, with your ancestors, and with the streaming waters of life. Tap into a massive power that isn’t yours by letting your heart break open—in joy or in pain. Be a vessel for healing and you heal the world.
The Visionary of Vessels is deeply intuitive. Ancestral wisdom, sacred knowledges, and healing poetry flow through them. For this reason, people are drawn to them for their powerful capacities to listen deeply, to counsel, to nurture, to heal, and to calm in times of emotional tumult. The reason that the Visionary is able to hold space so well or others, however, is that they know how to hold space for themselves. They know how to create their own sanctuary for rejuvenation and restoration. They know that they must be intentional, that emotional alignment comes with practices of delving deeply into their own should and cleansing rather than repressing.
The Visionary also knows the importance of boundaries. Remember that not all vessels are meant to hold us and not everything is ours to absorb or carry, The Visionary reminds us that boundaries are not the same as impasses or walls. You are not obligated to let everyone into your sacred space, especially not those who make toxic demands on your emotional labor. In the long run, the more grounded and supported you can be, the better you will be able to direct your supportive and healing energies to the benefit of others.
Reversed: The supporter needs support, the healer needs healing. A temporary blip or disruption in intuition and empathy. Approaching powerful wisdom and capacity to heal, but not there quite yet.

December 11, 2018: Four of Stones
The Four of Stones reminds us that we have what we need & that we are enough. Letting go of those things we have held on to—be it narratives about ourselves/others, physical things, or ways of being—can be hard; but this card asks us if we need those things or if they are holding us back. The Four of Stones also reminds us to share our resources if we can, hinting that feelings of scarcity might form parts of those narratives we need to shed.

Weekly Reading for December 09-15, 2018
*Take a look here to see a summary of my approach to reading the Thoth tarot
This weeks reading places me (represented by the Ace of Disks) in direct relationship to the Prince of Swords. My energy is one full of potential and the ability to realize material work and success, if I apply myself. Being in conversation with the Prince of Swords suggests that this centers around creative projects and intellectual creation: manifesting material reality requires vision and the action inherent in the Prince.
But Disks and Swords do not always go together, and this is emphasized in the reversed Chariot. Usually a card of action, control, manifestation, and will, this week I am reminded that harnessing the competing energies of the disks and swords is a choice that I must consciously undertake. I am reminded that to get where I am going requires action, and does not just happen. But The Universe, as my card of likely response, suggests that by focusing on the end goal—creation, completion, manifestation—allows for those energies to be harnessed. it is by providing a destination that the horses pulling the chariot can find there way, now is not the time to loose the reins.
The final two cards, the Knight of Swords and Princess of Cups, work together to provide advice to take away from the reading. It is important to live into the fiery creation of the mind, engage in brainstorming and take the mental side-routes because they can lead to new ways of seeing; but while doing so remember to ground this action in soul. Intuition and kindness (to self and others) allow for this period of mental activity to be productive, pointing back toward the Ace of Disks.
The oracle lesson for the week, Regret, asks me not to dwell on the past; but rather to learn from it and move forward. The present project will not be helped if I only attend to the things that went wrong and contributed to where I am now.

May 21, 2018: Traveler of Stones
*As a reminder you can find a description of the suits & court cards of the Slow Holler tarot in this post
Un-make who you thought you were in order to make whole who you need to be. Give yourself permission to grow, change, evolve. Sometimes it is the tearing apart that makes it possible for you to remake and remember.
The Traveler of Stones asks you to find your solid core as you move among scenes and environments that may try to shake you up or wash you away. It’s important to find a balance between being tight-fisted with your resources and wanting to share them indiscriminately. Similarly, you may feel an internal struggle between experimentation and sticking to what’s tried and true. Make sure that your head and heart stay connected as you make this choice.
The Traveler of Stones is committed to following through on what they begin, and can be hard to sway from their course. When this card appears in your reading, channel the stable, responsible, and consistent energy of the Traveler of Stones without getting trapped in a too-narrow path.
Reversed: Fragmentation, disputation. Return on your investment. What goes around comes around. Sudden new capacities or access, but loss of grounding.

Weekly reading for November 25–December 01, 2018
*Take a look here to see a summary of my approach to reading the Thoth tarot.
This week’s reading places the 3 of cup—a card of emotional fulfillment & joy—in the position of self, positioned with the theme of a reversed 4 of cups (a card which points to emotional stability & comfort). The name of the 3 of cups, “Abundance”, points to the root of what I feel the meaning behind this relationship is. While traditional interpretations focus on the joyful aspects of this card, of which there are many, in this case I see it speaking to an abundance of emotions, both joyful and sorrowful. These two cards suggest that it is important to allow these emotions to be processed this week, or risk moving into a situation where things become stagnant & unproductive.
The week takes an interesting turn in this context, with The Tower showing a sudden and jarring shift, located in the emotional realm (given the preceding double cups). The Tower is a card of inevitability, illuminating the ruins of what we have built as a point that can be the beginning of growth or, alternatively, a place we stay and continue to mourn. Regardless, the possibility for growth and renewal is only present if we move beyond The Tower, seeing it as a reference point instead of a home.
The reading then reveals The Fool, next to a reversed Star. This suggests that the freedom and possibility of The Fool can serve this situation well, and that the hope of the Star should still be found and followed. Yet it also warns against the naïveté of The Fool, reminding me that false hope and illusion lead back to The Tower.
The final thought the spread reveals is found in the 7 of wands. This card speaks to a situation of creative and spiritual turmoil, although not necessarily in a bad way. The environment revealed by the card is one that has the possibility of being truly rewarding and fruitful, but only if we honor the lessons we have learned and the resources we have. The reversed nature of the card suggests a need to be aware of & speak back to self-doubt. Further, by capping the reading, the suit of Wands urges me to find multiple ways of processing an emotional situations; suggesting that staying—purely—within the realm of the Cups risks amplifying those voices which might hinder my growth.
The oracle this week, Courage, reminds me of my soul’s strength and ability to persevere. It councils me to remember that I am able to act in situations, and that fear is simply another moment of experience; not a force that should define my interactions.

August 08, 2018: Traveler of Vessels
*As a reminder you can find a description of the suits & court cards of the Slow Holler tarot in this post
Change is the only constant, especially in our hearts. Allow shifts in desires and creative expression. Be present only with the flow of time and how it answers to your own internal movements and shifts. Ask yourself, are you getting carried away? Do you want to be?
Driven by emotions as a source of inspiration, the Traveler of Vessels sets off to explore the furthest reaches of the heart. They are prepared for a creative adventure, such as a new artistic project or creating new emotional bonds. They move so quickly and frequently that their feet never seem to touch ground long enough to call any one place home. No matter how far they travel, they always carry a piece of home with them. Their insatiable desire for novelty can make them appear inconstant.
They may turn up in your life to shake it up like a snow globe, only to vanish as quickly as they appeared. The Traveler can remind us to be grounded and centered even as we allow our heart to be our compass. We can still allow our deep sea of emotions to move us—whether physically or psychically—without losing ourselves. If someone you know embodies the spirit of the Traveler, appreciate the loving and creative energy they usher in your life. If you are the Traveler, be open to new creative or emotional insight. The Traveler can also appear as a reminder that, ultimately, we are responsible for our own healing, even as others can hold space for us and offer guidance. No one else can go on our emotional journeys for us.
Reversed: Reluctance to commit. Prioritizing independence over intimacy. Fleeting intensity. Disconnection from reality.

August 06, 2018: Three of Branches
*As a reminder you can find a description of the suits & court cards of the Slow Holler tarot in this post
Unclench the grip of the past. Align yourself with the future. Carry spring blossoms within you while the winter trees are still bare.
The Three of Branches portrays the challenges and rewards of exploration and travel both literally as you move through new places and figuratively as you explore new life paths and creative directions. Your efforts have begun to bear fruit and the horizon stretches before you. The rose, of course, has its thorns. No new beauty or inspiration can come without risks and drawbacks. The meandering paths you’ll follow are not linear and may be unpredictable, even frightening. But vast, breathtaking vistas of possibilities beckon. Don’t be intimidated. You’ve seen fiery beauty burst into bloom through the force of your will and vision.
The past is behind you and you’re boldly pushing forward—as well you should! The Three encourages you to take the long view, pan back to a bird’s-eye perspective, and align with the passages of time and seasons. Don’t forget to pause and to notice the beauty of where you are. Allow yourself to reflect on your direction and then keep going. Orient yourself and appreciate the journey as you continue onwards.
Reversed: Slow, almost molasses-like progress. Endless travel, restless and rootless. Obsession with grandiose creative vision to the point of delusion or detachment from reality. Over-reliance on outside advice.
