Gettin straight into the dramatic questions. uhhhh. Not really? For either of those. 7, the dream/dteam stuff, if anything, for multiple reasons many of which you can probably already guess. I have 71 muted words on twitter and more than half of them relate to that so i get literally nothing on my timeline which is nice. so yeah. that counts for 7 i’d say. easily.

also i really like star wars but i avoid other star wars fans like the plague lmao. ‘clone girlies’ scare me

6… not really actually! i’m happy where i am. mcyt’s a huge deal for me right now, and when i’m not thinking about them the rest of my time is taken up with, like. splatoon. and i rarely go into the splatoon tags on here. tma was the most recent thing i got into and thats fun..maybe i could get into other podcasts that are similar like wtnv or red valley? but im predicting come may 12 all my time’s gonna be gone because of totk.

Watch out followers. I'm about to go ranting.

So I've been busy irl and my response to this situation has been delayed, so im gonna say it now.

It's long, but if you care about devs blatantly ignoring problems in their games when they can very well fix them, as well as profiting off of their users without proper game support. Please read in full.

Before I became a Kirby artist, my previous hyperfixation was TF2 (Team Fortress 2), and it was my hyperfixation for 3 years. That's a pretty long time! I know my current following is likely not participating in this community or are aware of the state of the game, but if you've been on the internet, you know of TF2. It's quite literally baked into the culture of the internet. So let's break the situation down for you guys.

Tf2 has gone without a major update for 5 years. That's fine. Most older games start dropping off in updates as they age, and TF2 is 17 years old now! Thats super old for an online game! What isn't fine is that this lack of updates has left the game unplayable as the anticheat has been outdated for half a decade. Making it open for abuse by bot hosters that ruin the experience of gameplay for real players. I will not be going into the ACTUAL CRIMES these bot hosters have committed. It's a heavy topic, and you should look into it if you are curious and can handle serious subjects like doxxing and the endangerment of people's lives.

2 years ago, the community spoke up and tried to voice their dissatisfaction with the state of the game, Valve, the company that owns the game (Yes, THAT Valve, owner of the biggest game launchers for PC, Steam, having an infinite money printer Valve.) acknowledged that they knew what was happening, did a bandaid fix that worked for maybe 2 days and then just stopped caring again.

Now the game is STILL getting 2 seasonal updates a year (3 counting their Halloween event). FULL of microtransactions and loot boxes for cosmetics, almost ALL of the content being made by people submitting it on the game's workshop. Basically, it makes the community nearly free labor for the company (nearly because creators do get a small cut of key sales) that will NOT maintain the game it's for. You can see the problem here.

As my followers will be more knowledgeable of Nintendo properties, I will use splatoon as an example:

Imagine Splatoon had a horrible wave of malicious cheaters flood the turf wars game mode, all with perfect aim and all with the E-Liter, able to one shot you instantly across the map making the game unwinnable, basically unplayable. Then Nintendo comes out and adds someone's fan made campaign to the game as a paid DLC and ignores all the players in the main game mode, leaving them to the cheaters.

Thats the kind of garbage TF2 players are going through right now, despite the game and player base being still very alive and wanting to play.

If any of this rings slightly with you as a problem that needs to be addressed, please sign the petition to get Valve's attention! Its blatant abuse of a player base at this point for them to profit off it's users like this without keeping the game PLAYABLE.

Valve makes money off TF2, a game plagued by bots, through lootboxes, MvM tickets and any sale/purchase on the community narketplace.

Until such a time that they fix the game, do not buy anything out of the shop or the community market.

If Valve decides to release the Summer Update without even addressing the ongoing bot problem, do not buy keys to open any loot boxes no matter how badly you want a cosmetic. Don't give them a penny until they fix the game and not a moment sooner.

Do not let a corporation think they can get away with selling you a broken product.

Similarities between TF2 and Splatoon (2)

by me (a sploon 2 player) and @d-9542 (a tf2 player) (they barely ever post tho and anyways this was my idea lol)

TLDR, splatoon and tf2 are very similar in many ways

team vs team (turf wars and regular tf2 battles idk what theyre called)

team vs game (salmon run and MvM)

COSMETICS AND GUNS (self explanatory.)

events (idk if they count as seasonal lol but splatfests and scream fortress)

(i almost spelled fortrass in that last one LMAO oh my god im so sleep deprived)

stupidly elaborate lore (my friend isnt wrong ngl)

something something, precious resource stolen (zapfish and australium)

GMOD + SFM communities (i think splatoon has the biggest sfm community that isnt for a valve thing but dont quote me on this)

competitive scene (lots of games have this but honorable mention or something anyways ranked battles/league battles and competitive mode)

similar game modes (will elaborate later)

color themes woo (red vs blu, the iconic orange vs blue from splatoon 1, green vs pink in splatoon 2 and yellow vs purple in splatoon 3)

family rivalry i guess (like theres the whole mann brothers thing and i guess the sploon 1 final splatfest counts as well as the whole plot of sploon 2 hero mode? idk.)

'voice commands' (tf2 has A LOT. splatoon has like.....4. and they display as text with inkling/octoling noises. but they all have a different versions in different languages i think)

shinies (the australiam weapons and gold frying pan for tf2, and the stupid fucking golden toothpick from the DLC that im never getting because i absolutely cannot figure out how to beat girl power station someone send help)

bombs (literally demoman and the different bomb sub weapons in splatoon 2. i think he would have fun with those, especially fizzy bombs. im getting distracted fuck)

main and sub weapons (technically tf2 has a lot more categories but for the sake of my sanity im seperating them like this. sub weapons in splatoon ARENT limited to bombs only, for those of you who dont play.)

special abilities (while splatoon specials are different for each weapon, the abilities are dependant on the class in tf2. eg, ink armour and ubercharge, both of which makes you temporarily invincible and can affect teammates. but ink armour is the whole team, while uber is like, yourself and one other person. also charge times lmao the bane of my existance. the pain when you really need to use your special but the gauge isnt filled yet :[ )

"Cut off from developer support 😔" (my friends words. also technically not true because tf2 got updates about like last week as of posting, while splatoon is getying a THIRD GAME IN SEPTEMBER LETS FUCKING GO.)

stories! (tf2 has the comics, and splatoon has official short stories on their site.)

similar(?) gamemodes time pog

(a lot of the splatoon gamemodes can be compared to multiple tf2 gamemodes so thsy may show up several times lol)

online gameplay

online gameplay woo basically the same thing? the goals are a bit different cause in splatoon youre trying to get the most turf inked but literally you just shoot at people. pew pew.

salmon run and mann vs machine

this is like literally the same thing. the goals are different but basically a team of players have to fight against several waves of salmonoids/robots. you get stuff by beating the waves (i think?????? i dont play tf2 and my brain is, again, too tired to comprehend what the wiki is trying to say) and stuff and you win ONLY if you get all of them.

control points and tower control/splat zones

i think symmetrical cp is closer to tower control than the other ones. like, all of the splatoon maps are symmetrical so....

anyways

both teams have to take over a certain amount of spots to win. in splatoon 2 this is done by riding the tower (which is more like a payload thing but i think rainmaker is more similar to that than tower control) while in tf2 this is done by standing at the capture point. it takes a while to capture each point for both games, tho in splatoon you dont have to recapture, since it isnt exactly like capture points? thats more of a splat zones thing.

speking of splat zones this one is similar to cp in the fact that you have to literaly capture zones. usually1, but there may be 2. capturning the zones is similar to how its done in tf2, except instead of just standing there you have to cover the area with your teams ink. the counter only goes down if your ink is majority and you have all the zones.

im too tired to do all the big brain thinking to explain this more so MOVING ON

payload and rainmaker (and also the peristalsis stage in octo expansion)

you move a thing to a goal. you win if you get that thing to the goal! thats the very basics but while payload is like a move the cart via a track thing rainmaker is literally just grabbing the rainmaker and getting it to (or as close as possible) to the podium on the opposing teams aide of the map and actually i take back my earlier statment payload is quite similar to tower control.

HOWEVER. in splatoon both teams are fighting to get the rainmaker to their respective podiums. in payload, only one team moves the cart, while the other team tries to stop them.

the peristalsis stage is basically the same thing but with 1 player only cos the octo expansion DLC is a single player campaign. that and you have to shoot at it to get it to move.

king of the hill and splat zones

literally the exact same thing????? like im not even kidding. theres a certain area you have to capture, and once you have that area a timer starts to count down. but if the enemy captures it from you the timer for your team pauses and the enemys counter starts. this is kinda short cause theres not that much for me to point out lol

PASS time and clam blitz

theyre both semi based off of irl sports? except in passtime theres only one ball i think, while in clam blitz you have to collect clams to make a bigger football clam to throw at the enemys basket to break it so you can throw clams into it before it repairs itself

anyways i think this is everything? man idk i did this on a whim cause i was bored.

First of all, yes, it’s me! lesbian-octoling, rhi-draws-things, whatever you wanna call me. I’m making this because I��ve heard through a friend of mine that I trust that you are a relatively good person, and while I don’t agree with everything you’ve done, I figured i might as well try to clear things up between us.

First off-

I’m sorry.

This is a 100% genuine, formal apology. I am sorry your medical issues are acting up, I understand completely. I had and almost identical use (albeit with chemical imbalances making me throw up, instead of breathing/heart issues, but both caused by stress), so I get it.

I’m not here to stress you further. In fact, I’m here to try and resolve the issue. I don’t want you to feel the way you do, and I don’t want to start more drama. I should know, i’ve been receiving nasty shit for a while. If you don’t want to read this- that’s okay! Don’t stress yourself, dude.

I just feel like this is important, because we never actually talked- and lack of communication often leads to violence.

But there are a few thing I wanted to address- first and foremost, the ‘xeno free zone’ banner, and the tags.

Ah, I hope you don’t mind me going off a bit, but I did want to say things!!!

Muzzles: Inkling beaks, IRL, are very long! they just look flat because.. well, squids are long! But if you put that into something shaped like a human head, they need a bit more room to stretch out.

Claws: they’re not actually claws, they’re hooks! Just like real deep-sea squids have hooks made of chitin that can retract back into their tentacles, which is why i made them like that. As you can see when they go back into heir squid forms, their arms and legs ARE just evolved tentacles!

Here’s a cool example of the hooks, as compared to some of my squid hands:

‘goat noses’: This is because… it’s not a nose! A real squid breathes through it’s siphon, which is one, large hole. That’s why their nose is like that- it’s not two nostrils, it’s one hole, but flattened down so it’s not just a big ol’ hole in their face. If it was, things might get into it, like dirt or bugs or.. i dunno.

Digigrades: admittedly, this is just because it’s fun, and theres no reason they shouldn’t. Any other similarities to cats is just… coincidental, really, as cats and squids have a lot of similarities (liking the sun, chasing lights, etc).

Eyes: Actually, this was a mistake. When i FIRST started getting into splatoon i was like ‘wait squids have horizontal pupils right’ and only found out later that no.. that’s octopi! But oh well, it was a bit late, eh? live and learn.

I’m not saying its fully scientifically accurate- hell, course it’s not! But its more biologically accurate than having them being made of ink. Mostly, I just think it’s fun, cus I’m a budding biologist and I think it’s cool to explore these concepts.

Ok! Thats all I gotta say. I just wanted a chance to explain myself, s’all! As for the banner itself… while it may have been joking in nature, I do think it was a bit rude. Kinda like swinging a bat at a hornet’s nest, yeah..? Like you said- “but yknow tumblr be tumblr, and i honestly expected This™”… you gotta watch out what you say sometimes. You could’ve made it more obvious that you were joking- putting ‘XENO FREE ZONE’ with bit red X’s and ‘feel free to reblog :)’ just has.. a very mean tone to it, and it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, regardless of your intentions. It really didn’t sound like a joke, to a lot of people, including me.

Though, maybe, we’re all just a bit wary- I’ve been receiving asks telling me to- quite literally- kill myself, multiple times, over this. I also know several friends who have gotten the same messages (a few of which don't even draw xeno, but simply because they are my friends). I think me (and other xeno artists, though I cannot speak for them) have a right to be wary, when we’re so used to being bashed. A lot of people are scared, and it doesn’t make what some people said right, I’m just… telling you why that massive backlash happened.

And by ‘massive backlash’…. if I’m being honest- and I don’t mean to make it sound trivial- a lot of the responses to those posts weren’t truly mean. Some people sent a clown meme, a lot of people responded with ‘why are you hating us, were just having fun’. A few were pretty mean, yes, but I could count them on one hand. These were light hearted in nature, and nothing like some of the truly nasty things that could’ve been said. You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve received in my inbox…

I think a lot of this could’ve been avoided if your post right after had simply been an apology. Instead of playing the victim card, simply say ‘ah, that last post was a joke- i sincerely apologize, and I might’ve worded it poorly’. That’s it. And it could have been avoided if you said, in the tags ‘this is a joke post don't take it seriously’. But instead, you went on the criticize xeno aspects. Not saying you’re wrong, but pointing out why so many people took it the wrong way.

But.. the main thing I wanted to address was this post.

I.. can’t say I’m in the right, but I can’t say you are, either. I probably shouldn’t have made that post- but it was meant more as an off-hand joke. I didn’t mention you at all, as I didn’t want anyone to hate on you. It’s more of a running joke for my blog of ‘sexy tartar’, which is why it was funny enough that I brought it up.

#can’t feel safe#when i put an opinion out there#its easy.. to ignore a post yknow…? It’s also easy not to make a joke like that. Again- maybe you intended it as a joke, but it’s like one of those shitty april fools pranks where you tell somebody something bad happened. We got scared. Doesn’t make it right of us, but it doesn’t make it right of you, either.

But the ONLY thing I’m truly angry about- if you saying that ‘you, a minor, don’t feel safe because you’re being shat on by an adult’. The reason this makes me mad is because… I’m 18. Barely. And you’re 17. I’m… not even a full year older than you. I’m still in high school. The way you worded it made it sound like i’m a 32 year old getting off on sending hate to a 13 year old- and that’s not even close to the case. That is not cool, dude.

Anyway. Sorry about that, though I hope you can see why I’m.. unhappy with the wording. I’m trying to solve things here, not make them worse, ha…

And.. yes, I did block you. But not so you wouldn’t find out. You can still see my blog; i know this. I blocked you because I’ve been getting hate anons for the past few weeks, and I can’t be too careful with who I block. I’m tired of people telling me im ‘ruining the fandom’, so I tend to block at leisure, or when I have suspicion. And a big ‘ANTI XENO’ banner is reasonable suspicion, yes…?

Again, I apologize for that post, but i was not doing to to spite you, just because I found it funny. I didn’t contribute to the spreading of hate to you in any way- I am very anti-hate messaging, and very pro ‘block and ignore if you don’t like them’. Which is.. what I was trying to do, but I didn’t want to leave us on that sour note. I did not encourage anyone to ridicule you on your post, or send you any sort of messages and asks.The only people I complained to were my girlfriend and a select few close friends, who i KNOW would not participate in any sort of hate spreading.

I’m not asking you to be friends with me. I’m simply trying to clear off any misconceptions- I’m fully welcome to hearing what you have to say back. But…

All in all, I think the gist of what im trying to say is that we all made mistakes, and we should both own up to them. I’m very sorry about your heart condition- I sincerely, 100% hope you get better. And I’m hoping that by talking it out, we can clear things up and not let it stew..? I know that sometimes these things tend to eat at me until I fix them, and that is all I’m trying to do.
