Neil Gaiman, co-author of Good Omens:
My first encounter with Terry Pratchett was The Colour of Magic, as read on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour. I was a young journalist and I reached out to his publisher for an interview, and thus became the first journalist to interview Terry Pratchett, in Bertorelli's Italian restaurant, in Gower Street. (We remembered it as a Chinese Restaurant in Goodge Street, demonstrating either the fallibility of memory or our fondness for Chinese food.) We became friends.
I was lucky enough to read Terry's books as he wrote them, to become one of his beta readers, and then to collaborate with him. Terry had a brilliant eye for the places where reality and narrative tradition intersect: he had a science fiction writer's mind, let loose on a fantasy world, and he loved to explain and show how things came to be. The last time we saw each other he told me I had to read a book about feeding Nelson's navy – and I still wonder, had he lived, about the Discworld novel he would have written, about ships, and naval battles and all, and the lessons he would have taught us. Because at his best, Terry was a teacher. The kind who makes you laugh while simultaneously realising that everything you have taken for granted so far is utterly wrong. I miss him.

Today is March 12, sir Terry Pratchett Memorial Day, a day that is important for me to remember. This man, his books, helped me a lot in my childhood and are helping me up to this day. Therefore, every year I draw a lilac - this is a kind of a way to say "thank you" to a person who unfortunately will never hear it. But the world will hear his name once again, and a man is not dead while his name is still spoken.

Let's remind the world that Good Omens is Terry's too. It's MOSTLY Terry's, even.
Terry was taken from us way too soon. Let's not allow his last wish and last story to suffer the consequences of one man's actions. Terry had nothing to do with them.
Let's finish this for Terry.

May is a very busy month in the library I work in but the best part of it is always when I get to create a window display for The Glorious 25th of May. Sir Terry is my absolute favourite author of all time and I love been able to showcase his work to the people of Galway (and maybe get a few converts to the Discworld along the way 😉).
This year we have The Great A'Tuin on display again. Huge thanks are always due to the amazing Paul Kidby, who so kindly gave us permission to reproduce this spectacular art for library display 🥰
We also have a fabulous Lego mosaic of Sir Terry created by the one and only Brick Morpork (@BrickMorpork on Instagram). This mosaic was 1st prize in last years Irish Discworld Convention raffle and one of my best friends (and a fellow librarian) was the lucky winner. Big hugs and kisses M for letting me have it 😘😘
So if you're around Galway, come and have a look. It's on display till next Friday, there might even be a couple of new additions to it 🤫 And finally, thank you to Sir Terry for the amazing world he created and the joy it keeps on giving to us all 🐢🐘🦧🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️

Happy Birthday, Terry
I have never been as fulfilled professionally as I was when I worked with Terry on his amazing books.
“No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away—until the clock he wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life, they say, is only the core of their actual existence.”--Reaper Man
I miss him every day, and I’m so grateful to all of you who help to keep his name alive. Thank you.

Thank you so much to all the saezuru steves for chapter 52 ( and all your hard work)!
In chapter 52, when Yashiro calls out Doumeki's name. He says "Chi.... Dou...me...ki". I am freaking out because was he gonna call out doumeki by his first name "Chikara" ???
In the japanese raws, is it clear which first syllable he said first ? Thank you !
Tumblr media
I would love to think that because just moments ago he was thinking about Doumeki and the host club mama and how she called him "Chikara" in front of everyone. I'm sure that if Yashiro had gone ahead and said "Chikara" in this moment, with that face, then the chapter would be over, the series would be over, and we would be over, because Doumeki wouldn't allow us to see what was going to happen next because the man he loves just outright called out his name.
To be realistic it was probably just a little moan because Doumeki was being a little excessive with his fingers and Yashiro (as we now know from the new chapter (SPOILER) would love for Doumeki to be a lot more G__TLE right about now.
Quite possibly, Yashiro could also have been about to say "chigau" because Doumeki had asked him if he really wanted him to stop to which Yashiro would have not necessarily said "No" but that he just wanted to do it differently. But in the absence of some Yashiro introspection (not exactly a good time for it, but heck he's done it before) we went with the simple "chi" because it works as a moan and Doumeki's name and who are we to force ourselves on Yashiro? That's Doumeki's job!
But to be accurate, Yashiro does say "Chi" in hiragana, because Chikara is one kanji so it would have to be broken up using hiragana. The Japanese raw has Yashiro actually saying "....Dou me ki" in hiragana as well, so yeah.... it could be possible that Yashiro was about to get intimate and destroy us all. Boy did we dodge a bullet!!

Do you know that a man is not dead so long as his name is still spoken?
-Terry Prachett, Going Postal.
I picked that book up at a used book shop for 5 bucks because it amused me to no end that the main characters name was Moist. It's a true testament to how great a writer Sir Terry was that you forget that fact after the first chapter.

Finished watching The Amazing Maurice movie. And I think they could have improved it, but understand why they didn’t. I reckon The Amazing Maurice could be a TV series, either live action or animated, and I think that as a book this makes sense.
The Amazing Maurice is One of the Darkest Discworld books, there are things and it largely gets away with it because it’s Rats. And I think that’s the attitude the movie should have capitalised on.
I could imagine a community waiting to watch the power dynamics and struggles, a TV series which transcends the traditional “animation is just for kids” which more shows should strive to do. Because thats what the book is like. It is so adult whilst being so whimsical.
In short, it’s a movie that got the characters right, got the basic just of the story, and I do not regret watching. And maybe who knows, we could see another adaptation.
(I also think that Wee Free Men would make a great 2D animated TV series, but Now is not the post for that)

Terry Pratchett Day
It's really too hard to decide on a favourite. Favourite character is hard, favourite book impossible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for recommending with which book you should start - I think it really depends on what you like. There's something for everyone.
If you happen to like crime stories, or dragons (or sad wet men who are actually BAMF but don't know it yet):

"Professor Rincewind! Professor Rincewind! Some... I think it was a witch but the hat was the wrong color and it looked more like a wizard's hat except that she was a female and we've only ever had the one female that was a wizard and this was definitely not her but then again witches aren't always the same and I don't think there's actually a rule that says it has to be black and anyhow she had a dog but--"
"Calm down. (I can't believe I'm the one saying this.) What ever is the problem?"
"I... I think she stole your Luggage!"
"...Well, it's a nice thought, and a good try, but I'm really not looking to date anyone at this time."
This is a gift I made with love for a dear friend, who is a big fan of the Luggage, a maniac-homicidal item made from sapient pearwood from Discworld! :) 🐢🐘🐘🐘🐘
And the text above is an excellent comment / fanfic I received from Kencolt706 on Reddit and I'm gonna use it! 😁✨

Reading The Science of Discworld books, and Terry Pratchett really did just say maybe we should make gold radioactive so that rich people can’t hoard all the money. He would’ve done numbers on Tumblr.
