Touch
A/N: I went a little wild with this one, it a little messy but I hope you enjoy. Notes would be much appreciated, pls donât copy my work! And as you can see I couldnât think of a title lol.
Warnings: smut, masterbation, degradation, daddy kink, squirting, pure filth!
You know Harry didnât like it when you played with yourself, the only acceptation he would make was when he was on tour but even then he would get you to FaceTime him so he could watch and guide you so that you would have the best orgasm, he always wanted to control your pleasure and to be fair any appendage of his body was ten times more pleasurable than your own. His fingers were longer and thicker and reached spots you didnât even know existed, his tongue did wonders and flicked your bud just the right way, his cock was a whole other story you could only describe it as magical and you would never argue against that.
In your defence you knew that Harry recording vocals for his album this week and he was tired from countless late nights at work, he would always be frustrated with himself if he didnât get a note for a song pitch perfect, and then he would just get mad at himself trying it over and over again but still not happy with it, then Jeff and the team would force him to go home after a while in fear that he would wear his voice out and have to go on vocal rest and the fact that he was probably going to burst from his pent up anger, and when he got back home he would just want to cuddle and go to sleep so you thought you would take care of yourself before he got back.
Once he did get home he had calmed down slightly, driving always seemed to calm him down for some strange reason. He got inside aiming to go straight to bed where he thought you would be, but when he goes past the bathroom he heard a small whimper, he had to do a double take at first but when the same sound comes from you again he was ready to burst through the door but decided to wait a few minutes to let you have your fun, because after this you wouldnât be cumming for days.
Your moans start to get a little louder through the door and when he hears a loud shout of his name, well the preferred name you always called him when it came to doing anything sexual (âdaddyâ) he burst through the door knowing you were probably about to cum, to find you sat on the edge of the bathtub fingers buried deep inside your head thrown back, which slowly lifted up in shock. You hadnât even heard him come in the house, you thought you would of had plenty of time but you had obviously lost track being so lost in pleasure. The stern look on his face told you that you were in deep shit, so you opt to remove your fingers from your pussy and put both hands in your lap.
âWell what do we have here babyâ he saunters in coming to stand right over you from your perch on the bathtub, he immediately noticing the pool of your juices on the floor.
âHarry I didnâtâ you started before he made eye contact, the fury in his eyes was enough to shut you up.
âFirst of all itâs daddy to you, and secondly how many times did you cum?â
âSorry daddy, I came twiceâ
âhmm twice to many baby donât you think, I see you squirted aswell didnât youâ
âYes d-daddyâ his eyes boar into yours and you couldnât help but feel slightly intimidated.
âYou know daddy doesnât like it when someone else touches his pretty little peach donât youâ
You nod, âmy pussy belongs to you daddy, Iâm sorry for touching myselfâ you say quickly knowing that any excuse you had as to why you were playing with yourself wouldnât work.
âHmm, now thatâs what I like to hearâ he couldnât help but get slightly hard at that but he quickly thinks about something else to not give you the satisfaction.
He averts his eyes to the floor quickly taking in the pool of your clear juices once again, a cynical smirk overtakes his features which instantly made you panic knowing he had something brewing up in that head of his.
He looks back at you âI want you to clean up your mess for meâ he says reaching his hand up to your jaw his thumb resting heavy in your bottom lip making it snap back when he released it again, âdonât want you to use a towel or anything like that, want you to use that pretty little mouth of yours, do you think you can do that? He asks even though you didnât really have a choice.
âYes daddyâ you comply getting down on you knees still only wearing a t-shirt, hissing as the cold tiles make contact with your bare legs. You lower your head so your nose is just above your juices your hair falling onto the floor which is quickly resolved when Harry crouches down beside your form and grabs it and makes it into a makeshift pony tail at the back of your head before lowering you head down practically pressing you face into the wetness almost a signal to start cleaning up.
You lips start smacking against the tiled floors, the slurping sounded quite disgusting and made the heat rise to your cheeks in embarrassment, but you knew he wouldnât let you out of the bathroom till you had licked up every last drop.
âSuch a filthy fucking whore arenât ya, doing anything daddy saysâ
Your hair being yanked slightly at every word to accentuate his statement as you hum again the floor, not being to come out with a proper respond without it being muffled.
Once Harry sees you are done he pulls your head up by your hair so that you are sat on in your calves, your chin slightly wet, your eyes had this fucked out look in them from being that submissive for him. He kissed you on the lips for the first time since he caught you, dipping his tongue into your mouth to have a taste, the kiss ends just as quick as it started just as you were starting to enjoy having his lips on yours, he runs a finger along your chin collecting the remainder of your juices and then dipping it into his mouth before moving to stand up.
âCâmon come to bed where you can dream about cumming, cause if you think Iâm touching you for the next week you can think again, youâve been a very bad girlâ
Before you even got the chance to get up off the floor he was already walking to the bedroom, he was angry from earlier and you had just added fuel to the fire and he had contained it very well if he said so himself. At the same time he couldnât keep the small smirk off of his face, cause he was definitely going to have fun with you.
//////
Fast forward 3 days and your clit was throbbing and in desperate need of a release. To make it even worse Harry had had a few days off so the teasing was constant, he walked around the house in little to no clothes, made sure to leave the bathroom door slightly open to make sure you heard his moans when he jerked himself off in the shower almost loud enough that you would hear even from the living room. The way he would spoon you when you were cuddling or in bed, he would shuffle around and press his cock right between your ass cheeks so that you felt him even through layers of clothes.
The sexual deprivation was driving you insane to say the least. You were currently in bed reading a book Harry doing the same, well you were reading that was until you caught the sight of your boyfriend, before he was sat with his legs straight out infront of him but being the fidget-bum his is he had now moved his knees towards his chest and spread them slightly his feet planted on the bed. The fabric of his shorts tightened over the area between his legs, outlining his cock and balls perfectly, his thighs looking deliciously thick, the muscles of his tattooed arm flexed as he flicked through the pages of his book, the shirt he was wearing was practically skin tight making you ogle his figure at the head of the bed, from you spot on your belly further.
You donât realise your shifting your legs together as you watch him, your panties now getting undeniably wet, trying to relieve some of the ever building pressure, the movement catching Harryâs attention.
âWhat are you doing darlingâ he looks at you knowingly.
âNothingâ stopping the movement of your legs, shying away from his gaze, staring at the words on the page you were currently on but not actually reading them.
âStaring at me werenât you, rubbing those soft little legs togetherâ
âCanât help it, you look really good sat like thatâ she says innocently.
âWhat about a the rest of the time, do I not look good thenâ
âCourse you look good, itâs just- I can see the outline of you cock really good from here, making me soo wet, pretty sure Iâve ruined these panties by now.â
Well to bad baby, shouldnât have been a bad girl the other dayâ he retorts going back to reading planning on ignoring her desperate pleas.
âPretty please daddy, will you touch meâ making him huff and look back up at you, getting a little frustrated.
âOh itâs daddy now is it, you have your own fingers donât you baby?â
âBut itâs not the same as when you do itâ she also knew that if she did touch herself again it would only prolong her punishment, but at this moment in time you was close to loosing it with how horny you were.
âWell that didnât stop you the other day did itâ he points out.
You whine âno baby donât you get all bratty with me, I couldâve had you over my knee spanking your ass right now, wouldâve made you feel it for days, but I bet you would have loved that though, cause youâre such a filthy girl, arenât youâ
âAnswer me, are you a filthy girl?â
âYes daddy I amâ
âGood now we have that established I am going to carry on reading, and I suggest you stop speaking before I have you over my knee, is that clear baby girlâ
âYes daddyâ you say submissively doing as he said.
20 minutes had passed when an idea popped into your head, you had been warned not to talk and you knew the consequences but your mouth was moving before you had time to process it.
âDaddy can we touch ourselves together, I-I mean like masterbate togetherâ you explain even though Harry already knew what you meant.
He looked at you in annoyance, but in his head he was absolutely pining at your suggestion. Getting to watch you touch yourself all spread out for him, and him doing the same. The past few days had also been torture for him too, he tried to replicate your touch when the was running his hand up and down his cock in the shower, but it wasnât even close to the way your soft hands would stroke him, he had to resist pounding into you multiple times from just watching you do daily tasks, yesterday you were bending over the dining-room table to reach the vase of now dead flowers to put a new bunch in, you were wearing leggings so when you bent over he got a perfect view off your ass, he really wanted keep you bent over it as he pounded you into the table, he had to take himself to the small gym he had set up in the basement to calm himself down.
He closed his eyes and let out a angry sigh. He hated how much he was caving right now. He was adamant he wasnât going to let you cum for the next week but your suggestion was too hard to resist. So if he wasnât touching you he would still be carrying through with his punishment. Right?
He hadnât said a single word yet, and you were almost certain he was going to say no, but when he marked the page he was on in his book and threw it down into the bed it brought a flicker of hope within you.
âCâmereâ he murmured, making you scramble up the bed kneeling between his spread legs.
He cups your cheek âyou were a bad girl the other night, made daddy upset. Didnât think I was good enough, that I couldnât satisfy youâ
âDaddy you always satisfy me, make me cum so fucking hard, no ones ever touched or fucked me the way you doâ you say truthfully.
âAnd who do you belong toâ
âYou daddy, always been youâ this tips him over the edge his cock hardening making a tent in his shorts.
âThatâs a good girl, now Iâm going to let you cum, but on one condition, we donât touch each other whatsoever, still gotta keep up with your punishment even if you did say all those nice things to daddyâ
âOkay, thankyou daddyâ a wave of relief washes over you, itching to just get on with it now.
âStrip for me thenâ you immediately start shuffling out of your clothes as if he had read your mind.
He does the same, moving to the middle of the headboard so that there would be more room, once you are finally naked and turn your head towards Harry again you gawk at him, he looked soo hot with his legs spread, his pretty cock hard up against his belly, he looked delicious. You catch yourself staring, quickly snapping out of it, moving to sit across from Harry replicating his position only being inches away from his form, your juices had made your pussy nice and slick practically glistening.
âGod youâre so wet havenât even touched you, shit youâre such a filthy little slutâ he groaned, desperately wanting to reach out and run his fingers through your folds to get a taste.
âOpenâ he instructs quickly placing his fingers onto your mouth.
You were about to say something about the no touching rule but decide against it cause in reality he was going to do whatever he wanted anyway. So you let his fingers enter your mouth and happily suck on them, humming as you do. Just as quickly as he put them in he retracted his hand and brought it down to his throbbing cock, spreading the wetness from your mouth up and down his length.
âWhat now daddyâ you ask knowing that if you did anything he didnât want you to do he would probably stop all of this immediately, so you decide to teed carefully.
âTouch those pretty tits for meâ he says going straight to tugging his leaky cock. So you bring your fingers down to your nipples, the coldness of them making you hiss when the come into contact instantly hardening them, you slowly begin to tweak the nubs between you thumb and index finger.
âThatâs it, just like how daddy does it except heâd have his mouth on you tits sucking and biting them marking you up just the way you likeâ he says knowing this was getting you even more riled up.
After a couple of minutes he stops you ânow I want you to tease that sweet cunt of yours, donât you dare put a finger in your tight little hole until I say, is thatâs clearâ
âYes daddyâ you say making eye contact with him as you start to touch your clit.
The sight could have made him cum right there and then, his beautiful girl touching her perfect pussy like daddy had told her to, it got him impossibly harder as he was now moving his hand up and down faster, circling the sensitive head every once in a while.
Moan after moan was pouring out of your mouth, rubbing deep circle into your clit, the sight of your boyfriend getting himself off at the same time was incredibly hot.
âYou can dip those finger into your sweet pussy of yours now baby, doing so good for meâ he was desperate to see your face morph into one of pleasure.
You moan again at his words instantly slipping two finger inside of you, not having to be told twice. You bury them to the hilt curling them up, hitting your g-spot, the sensation making you bite your lip to suppress you moans but it was no use as one escaped you and your eyes roll back. You start building a rhythm which was subconsciously at the same time as Harry ran his hand up and down his length.
âGo faster sweet girl, just like daddy doesâ you whimpered already getting close to falling over the edge, you feverishly grasped the sheets trying to keep you body up.
âNobody does it like you though daddyâ you were never able to replicate the actions of his fingers and the way they worked at your cunt.
Harry groans and moans had increased as he got closer and closer âshit Iâm gonna cumâ he says his cock twitching, a long purple vein bulging as his hand now stroking himself faster then before, you really wanted to lick up the underside of his length you practically drooled at the thought.
âCan I please cum with you daddyâ
âNo baby, daddyâs gonna cum first. Wanna cum on that pussy of yours, seeing as I canât cum inside you. C-can you spread you folds for me, can you do that for meâ he slurred out inching closer to you.
You do as he says removing your fingers then spreading you folds for him âwant you to cum on my pussy daddy, want it soo badâ he reaches his spare hand to fondle his balls and with a few more pumps, that mixed with your words he was done for âshiiit Iâm cummingâ he shouts rope after rope landing on you cunt and thighs, the sensation of his warm cum on your pussy making you feel all fuzzy and bringing you to the brink once again.
His legs start to shake from the oversensitivity, his hand slowly riding out the waves of his orgasm, eyes clamped shut, his mouth still hung open soft moans tumbling out of it. âYou good daddyâ you ask as he finally opens his eyes again.
âHmmm, made me cum soo hard, such a filthy little thing, look at you pretty pussy covered in my cum, looks soo good babyâ he swipes some sweaty curls that heâd fallen onto his forehead.
âCan I have a taste daddyâ
Course baby, as long as I get one aswellâ
You quickly bring your fingers and collect the mixture of you twos juices, bringing them to you mouth, humming at the taste that now laid heavy on your tongue, you replicate the action again but this time bring your fingers to Harryâs awaiting mouth, he took your finger in sucking in them greedily, his soft moans making shiver run up your spine.
âCan I cum now daddy, please daddyâ you whimpered.
âBeen such a good girl for daddy, been waiting for soo long, bet your poor little cunts aching by now. Make yourself cum for me babyâ
You instantly plunge your finger into your hole, Harryâs cum making you even slicker but sticky all at the same time, the area between your legs must have looked a mess, but Harry thought it was the most hottest and beautiful things he had seen, his cock getting excited again but he would deal with that in a bit.
You fingers move inside of you at a quick pace, even adding a third the sting of the stretch morphing into pleasure. âTell you what baby, if you squirt for me we can cockwarm later, promise I wonât make you clean up the mess like I made you do the other dayâ
You whimper, how could you deny that it was impossible in fact, the last part would have made you laugh but you were too caught up in pleasure âokay daddy, Iâll s-squirt for youâ
Your fingers were now going frantically fast, and when you feel like a balloon was forming in you lower belly you cried out in relief âfound the spot havenât you, gonna soak the sheets, gonna soak me angelâ he moaned. You were seconds away from your sweet release when you threw your head back breaking eye contact with Harry which he didnât like one bit âlook at me baby, wanna watch you fall apart, gonna cum for me, cum for daddyâ and with that you couldnât hold it anymore your orgasm collapsing on top of you, the balloon inside you also bursting resulting in you squirting over the sheets and part of Harryâs lower half âthankyou daddy, thankyou, thankyou, thankyouâ was all you managed to get out, Harry swore he could have cum at the sight of you, fingers still slowly moving in and out of you pulsating cunt, trying to come down from your high. You looked utterly fucked out and it boosted his ego knowing that the majority of you pleasure was coming from him and he hadnât even touched you. You eventually collapse flat in the bed not being able to hold yourself up any longer, still out of breath like you had tuna marathon.
âFuck youâre soo hot baby, came soo hard and squirted like daddy told you, now you get to have my cock in your tight little cunt later cause youâve been such a good girl for daddyâ you moan at that.
âMhhh love being your good girl, donât know if I like being your bad girl more thoughâ
âLetâs stick to being good shall we, donât think I can handle not being able to be inside you and itâs only been 3 days, think I would shrivel up if I have to do it again.â He chuckled making you laugh tiredly. Soon you feel him crawl up between your legs before leaning over you until you two were face to face. âKissyâ he asks puckering his lips making you smile wildly, leaning up to kiss his plump lips, the both of you feeling as if you were on cloud 9 now indulging in one another as their lips pressed, and tongues danced with each other.
Maybe all that torture wasnât soo bad after all.

No more bed
Word count: 2113
Genre: Not actually sure :3
Request: No
Warnings: Swearing, kissing?
A/N that's the end of the only one bed trope. Technically requests are now closed but if you think of another overused trope you want me to write then feel free to send it in!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
You didn't eat that night and went straight to bed when you got too tired to focus on the words. You had made sure the pillow wall was twice the size it was to begin with. You turned off your light when you heard Natasha's footsteps come to the door, turning your back to her and pretending to be asleep. Your breaths were deep and completely even, there was no way Natasha could have guessed you were still awake. You felt her hesitate over you and the smell of reheated food invaded your nose and then heard her walk away.
The words she said back in that forest shouldn't have hurt you as much but they did. You shouldn't care what she thinks. It doesn't matter that she doesn't believe in your skills as an agent, that she doesn't think you're pretty enough to grab someone's attention.
If Natasha thought the bickering and coolness was bad at the start of the week, she was in for a shock. When she finally came back to that tiny, godforsaken bed and did her usual trick of sliding her foot over the pillow wall, you got up, took a pillow and the spare blanket and went to sleep on the rug in the living room.
When morning rolled around, you couldn't even be bothered to talk to her, focusing much more on the task ahead, just wanting this week to be over. It wasn't even the hurt you were feeling, it was the frustration that you felt hurt that drove you to stop talking to her. You hated her. She was annoying. She had no respect for anything anyone does.
You spent most the day preparing for the party that evening. Sure, it shouldn't take you over half a day to get ready but you had finished your paperwork early and you wanted to try on every single dress and suit SHIELD had supplied you with. You ended up choosing a navy blue, off the shoulder ball gown. Thinking logistically, it was quite possibly one of the worst things you could have worn. A pantsuit would have been a much more suitable choice and yet you looked and - more importantly - felt hot in the dress.
~~~~~
"You're not seriously wearing that are you?" Natasha asked as we both began to change into our formal wear. She had let you splurge out on a taxi but only after you had to walk what felt like 500 miles so no one would know where you were staying.
"Why not?" You asked with a fakeness in your voice "It's a no contact mission, plus, no one would look at me anyway, right?"
"Y/n, that's not what I-"
"Oh look. We're here." You get out the cab before Natasha can finish what she's saying.
Ivan might be an evil person, but he sure does know how to throw a party. It was elegant and high class and he made his way over to you as soon as he saw you. You had both agreed that you would keep him distracted while Natasha grabbed the relevant information.
"Dorogaya, u tebya poluchilos!" (Darling, you made it!) Ivan opened his arms wide, grabbed you by the shoulders and placed a kiss on both of your cheeks.
"Konechno, kak ya mog ignorirovat' takuyu ââzagadku?" (Of course, how could I ignore something so mysterious?) You laughed and he moved his arm to around your waist.
"Prikhodite, prikhodite, yest' lyudi, kotorykh vy dolzhny vstretit'" (Come, come, there are people you should meet)
~~~~~
Ivan spent most the night introducing you to different 'modelling' agencies. You knew what he was doing, he was showing you off to potential buyers. Ivan ran a human trafficking ring along with some other not so nice business. You weren't worried - not in the slightest. Although, as the night drew on and Natasha still hadn't said anything, you were getting a little more... concerned.
You managed to excuse yourself to the bathroom. Once inside, you tapped the earpiece repeatedly, praying Natasha would answer you.
"Romanoff where are you? Have you got the data?"
Silence
"Seriously, I'm sorry I've been ignoring you but this is childish now."
More silence
"I'll let you have the bed?"
Static rang out in your ear.
Of course SHIELD gave you a crappy ear piece. It was ridiculous. They provided you with three million dresses but couldn't give you a working piece of tech.
Just as you pulled out the burner phone, you felt a needle slide into your neck and the world went black.
~~~~~
"Y/n I have the data."
Nothing. Maybe you were still mad at her.
"Y/n do you copy?"
Still nothing.
"Y/n?"
Natasha's heart beat a little faster.
"Come on Y/n. I'm sorry. I'll let you have the bed?" Her burner phone pinged. It was your location. Shit.
~~~~~
You woke up and looked around, seeing that you were in the rundown hideout, you put your head back on the pillow. Everything felt heavy.
"You were drugged." Natasha states, standing in the corner of the room, her arms crossed and eyes never leaving you.
"Oh." It was all you could muster up the energy to say.
"We leave tomorrow morning."
You push yourself up into a sitting position. "How long was I out?"
"3 hours."
You looked at Natasha, really looked at her. "Then why are you still covered in blood?"
Everything of Natasha's had some kind of bloodstain. She hadn't even washed her hands. It may have been dark in the corner she was standing in, having only the side lamp to illuminate the room, but her skin seemingly glowed, making the blood stand out.
She turned around and left, heading towards the bathroom. You wanted to get up to follow her but while your mouth worked again, your legs did not. Apparently whatever they used on you was a lot stronger than you thought because you fell out of the bed. Again. Natasha rushed out, getting to you in an instant, except this time there were no sly remarks.
"Careful princess, people might think you care." You grin, only for it to drop immediately when you saw a slight wetness to the corners of her eyes. "Hey, it's okay." You said softly. If she wasn't as close to you, Natasha would have missed it.
"I didn't know where you were. I-I thought you had gone off to try and prove something and then I saw you lying there, in some basement Ivan had. You-you looked so... dead."
"But I'm not." you reached up and gingerly stroked her hair, not wanting to spook her. "And look!" You gestured to your toes that were wiggling "I can feel my legs again!"
Natasha let out a slightly wet laugh. "I'm really sorry."
"For what? These things happen all the time. Although I will say, you seem to be unlucky because my missions always go wrong with you." You nudged her shoulder, crossing your legs so you faced her, both of you still on the floor.
"For making you think you weren't attractive. For basically drugging you myself."
"Don't be ridiculous Natasha. You didn't drug me."
"I might as well have done! If I had just agreed with you instead of fighting you, then you wouldn't have felt like you had to prove anything."
"You think I'm attractive?"
"Seriously? That's what we're choosing to focus on now."
"Umm yes? I know it wasn't your fault at all but now I want to hear about how attractive I am." You smirked and Natasha stood up abruptly.
"I'm having a shower."
"Is that a nice cold shower for you to try to get over me?" You shouted as she slammed the door shut.
~~~~~
Natasha came out of the shower half an hour later, towel drying her hair.
"I think you're attractive too." You whispered out, half hoping Natasha wouldn't hear it.
She stilled. Looking at you, trying to see if you were lying.
"Then why do you hate me?"
"I don't think I do. Not anymore."
Natasha stayed silent, encouraging you to continue.
"I didn't like the avengers in general. You guys all act like you're so much better than us. You get all the perks of looking good and none of the paperwork. You don't know the amount of times I've seen top level agents filling out avenger paperwork when they should be out in the field. I thought you were all lazy but spending this week with you... well it made me realise that maybe you're not all that bad."
Natasha had moved herself to the bed, just watching you speak. You looked over to her, signalling that you had finished all that you wanted to say.
"I'm sorry I ever made you doubt yourself. I'll talk to the team about actually doing their paperwork. Who's the worst?" She asked, curiosity laced in her tone
"Steve."
Natasha let out a full blown laugh at that. "Wait seriously?"
"Yup. I see him all the time, constantly trying to offload his paperwork to someone else. I always thought it would be Tony but it's definitely Steve, then Bruce. Then it's probably Tony."
"I promise I'll try to make them stop."
"I wouldn't make promises you can't keep." You laughed.
"Why...why did you doubt me?" You asked, a little more serious than before.
"It's not that I doubted you... I guess I just didn't like the way you spoke to Ivan..."
"You mean the flirting?"
"Maybe..."
You sat in silence for a bit, you couldn't figure out why. It's not like it was against any rules and it all worked in your favour. Then, it clicked.
"Natasha Romanoff were you jealous!" You let out a slight gasp and grinned at her.
"No. No of course not." Natasha got defensive. There was no way she was jealous of that old, wrinkly, nasty smelling man.
"Aww princess!" You adjusted yourself so you were completely facing her. "I can flirt with you too if you want." Your voice got slightly lower and your eyelids dropped a fraction, making your pupils seem bigger. While you raised your voice a few octaves for Ivan, you knew that to seduce a woman you had to lower it a little.
"Stop it." Natasha hit you.
"But why baby?" You grabbed her chin and tilted her face towards you. "Now you don't have to be jealous." You sent her a wink and let her chin go, watching as her eyes got a little darker.
"Go away. I want nothing to do with you or your terrible flirting."
"You say my flirting is terrible" Your voice now back to normal, "But your body is saying something different."
"Wrong. My body is saying nothing."
"No?"
No."
"Okay then! Night night princess." You leant over to switch off the light when Natasha grabbed your arm, causing you to look back over to her.
"Calling me princess... it - ugh... well it -" Natasha looked conflicted before glancing up to you, looking at your lips and kissing you.
You were shocked. You knew you shouldn't have been. All the signs were there and you were a very good flirt but actually feeling her lips on yours made your brain short-circuit. You kissed her back and climbed into her lap.
"We're not doing it here." You said when you both broke the kiss
"Why not?" Natasha looked at you, her hands running all over you.
"Because I'm 90% sure there are rats and I really don't want to catch something"
Natasha laughed and kissed you a little more. "Fair enough. We should stop this now then."
You kissed her neck. "Yes. We should definitely stop now."
~~~~~
Just before you were due to leave, you called Natasha into the bedroom.
"Y/n, we have to go."
"I know I know but watch." You bounced excitedly as you threw a match at the bed.
"Y/n what the hell!?"
"Well, if you remember correctly, I said that if you crossed the pillow divide, I would burn the bed with you in it. As you can see, I'm generously leaving you out of the bed. You're welcome."
Natasha just looked at you. "I can't believe I like you."
"Aww you like me? That's kind of embarrassing for you." You laughed as you linked arms with her, walking to the jet, but not before Natasha convinced you to put out the fire on the bed.
You watched as the fire fizzled out and silently thanked that damn bed for bringing you and Natasha closer. Literally. It didn't mean you weren't going to have a long chat with Fury about proper size beds though.

âWhat did you just say to me?â
He was holding your chin, forcing your eyes to meet his. His jaw was clenched, nostrils flared. Youâd fucked up and you knew that.
Chris normally wouldnât have cared if you said a bad word. You had a little potty mouth. Sometimes heâd have to remind you to be more polite even, but you liked how the words felt coming out of your dumb baby mouth.
The only thing you knew you werenât allowed to do was swear at him. You didnât normally fight. Usually any kind of disagreement would be squashed before it could blow up. Except tonight youâd been acting especially bitchy.
Making snarky little remarks, ignoring him when he spoke to you, even telling him no when he said it was time for bed. Which brought him to the last straw. Youâd calling him a fucking asshole and thatâs when he realized he needed to squash this behavior out now.
âNo- nothing,â you stuttered out, trying to look down. Trying to make yourself look all innocent by fluttering those lashes.
You had this pout on your lip. Normally that got you out of these messes. Normally Daddy would take one look at your cute little lip and give you one of those nice big kisses you loved so much.
Except the damage had been done and thereâd be no coming back. He put his hand on your neck, squeezing just enough to where you knew he meant business. âDonât you ever talk to me like that okay. You fucking hear me?â
Your eyes were welling up with tears because youâd never made your daddy this mad before. All you could do was nod.
âI said do you fucking hear me. Use your words,â he demanded, squeezing a tad harder.
âI hear you,â you whimpered out.
He rolled his eyes. âOpen your mouth.â You nodded just wanting to listen to him as you did. Not wanting to make things worse. As he spit into it you almost cried. âThis is my fucking mouth you hear me?â
You nodded before forgetting what had just happened when you hadnât spoke. âYes, Daddy.â
âSee isnât it better when youâre a good girl for Daddy?â He said, shoving you down to the floor. He quickly pulled down his sweats so youâd get the hint. âLook at me.â
You did as told opening your mouth wide again waiting for him to shove his dick down your throat. Instead he spit into it again.
And then he shoved his dick down your throat.
He got a good grip in your hair to help you move back and forth. At this point youâd done this so many times and yet you felt like you could never really handle it. That didnât make you not obsessed with it, though.
Your eyes were still stinging from how you almost cried when he had his hand against your throat. You really should have known better. Even the best Daddy in the world had a breaking point. Youâd just finally found it.
You coughed and sputtered around him. Your slobber covering his dick and your face. It really was what youâd deserved after what youâd said.
âSee look at you,â he said. âWhere you fucking belong. On your knees pleasing me. You like pleasing, Daddy?â
You nodded. âUh huh.â Was all you could say considering he hadnât pulled you off of him.
âCâmere,â he said yanking you to your feet and not caring when you said ow with a yelp. âShut up.â But, he still let go, grabbing your arm instead.
He kicked off his sweats before pulling you towards the bedroom. Your skin suddenly feeling itchy in your sleep clothes. You wanted him to rip them off of you.
âDaddy!â You gasped as he pushed you on the bed. He didnât even wait for you to get comfortable before pulling you down so your head was hanging off. âH-â
You were cut off when he decided to push into mouth again. You choked around him trying to smack his thighs to let you up, but he didnât. His balls slapping against your face with each thrust. You tried to relax. All you could do at this point was accept your fate.
Finally he did, helping you up. Tears were streaming down your face and he wiped your face. He kissed your forehead gently.
Then pushed you back on the bed. This time making sure your ass was stuck up on the bed. Presenting your pretty pussy from behind.
He tugged your shorts down your legs until they were resting above your knee. He rubbed you pussy with his cock. Teasing your lips.
You hands had pulled the comforter up in your fists. The anticipation was killing you. Nothing good came from this position. Well, orgasms duh, but you really knew you were in for a rough fucking when he had you like this. Head down ass in the air while he stood.
He rubbed your clit and you bucked your hips. You were so sensitive. Your breathing was so heavy. You knew he was about to hurt your pussy so good.
As soon as he pushed into you felt like youâd been fucked stupid. All you new was him and his big fucking dick. Stretching you over him.
âOh,â you couldnât say anything else.
He pulled out of you ever so gently. So gently like maybe youâd gotten away with it. You knew you were wrong because the next one he gave you was so deep and invasive. The way he pulled out only to slam back in making you bury your head into the bed.
You could feel him in your guts and there was nothing you could do about it. Not that you wanted to. As much as it hurts it get so good.
His hand wrapped around your neck again. His other on his hip as he slammed you down along his length. The same length that was scraping along that special spot in you.
âCan I cum?â You asked because heâd you didnât want to piss him off even more.
He smacked your ass. âDo it. Cum for me.â
With his permission you did. Eyes rolling to the back of your head. He made you tilt your head back so he could look into your eyes. He was able to spit in your mouth again from his angle and there was nothing you could do to stop him.
Your hand was clenching your breast, pinching your nipple. You needed the friction so bad. It started to feel like your orgasm would never end. The aftershocks alone were driving you insane.
âThought you could be a bitch and I wouldnât say anything,â he pounded into you as he spoke. You screamed out into the air. At this point your juices were soaking him. âBet youâll never pull that shit again, huh.â
âNo,â you cried. âIâm sorry.â
âI know youâre sorry. Daddy had to teach you a lesson first.â
Your eyes were so glazed over. Then the way he was moving you just couldnât stop it as you came for a second time. Sobbing as he looked down you with a smirk, âDaddy!â
âThatâs it. Thatâs it.â He started grunting. The feel of your pussy tightening around him like that was bringing him close. âIâm gonna cum in you baby. Want Daddy,â he stopped to hiss, âto cum inside your pussy, Baby?â
You nodded.
âUse your fucking words.â
âYes!â You yelled as those tears streamed down your face.
Seeing you like that was enough. Heâd shoved himself all the way in then started giving you shallow thrusts as he came, coating your walls in his thick white seed. He gave you every bit.
Finally when he finished, he kissed your head before letting you go. You flopped down onto the bed trying to catch your breath. He pushed in one more time before finally pulling out.
âFuck,â he breathed out, getting in beside you.
You clearly were not moving on your own anytime soon so he helped you onto the bed and into his arms. He kissed your head once, twice, then a third time as he held you tightly.
âItâs okay,â he said, rubbing your back. âDaddyâs got you.â
You nodded. Still not able to say anything. Your throat was definitely going to be sore in the morning.
He sighed. âHow about we take a quick shower and then Iâll make you some tea?â
You nodded, but didnât budge. He went back to kissing your forehead until you were ready to get up. At least youâd won about not going to bed on time.

I hope you guys enjoy! this story has some twists I donât think yâall are gonna see coming ;) Iâm planning to update this fic once a week! I just wanted to get chapter one out there :)
previous chapter || next chapter || masterlist
Americano: espresso and hot water; has a similar taste to a brewed coffee, but still darker and more caffeinated thanks to the espresso.Â
Work is blissfully slow on weekdays, allowing you to putz along at your own speed. Today, however, is boring as hell. Youâd had approximately seven customers since the morning rush, meaning about seven drinks to make. There werenât even tables to clean, no customers having sat in the cozy coffeeshop. You and your coworker had joked around, swept and mopped, and cleaned the espresso machines twice each.Â
At this point, with nothing else to do, you sipped your third peppermint mocha while perched atop two stacked milk crates, leafing through your worn copy of The Great Gatsby. It was a common occurrence when evening rolled around, but rarely so early in the day. Since you were the one on barista duty, Mandy kept watch for customers and allowed you to relax with your book. It was routine for the two of you. She mindlessly fusses with the product wall and the coffee grinder, cleaning everything for the third time.
The door opens and you pop up from your makeshift chair excitedly. The weather is blustery and cold, with heavy snowflakes starting to fall outside the large windows, and the man who enters is pulling his jacket tight around himself. He looks up and you quickly dodge behind the espresso machines before you can make eye contact. Itâs instinctual, and youâre unsure why until your brain reminds you of the manâs face. Heâs handsome, even though you got maybe a secondâs look at him. Dark brown hair and a neatly trimmed mustache, eyes an even darker shade to complement his tanned skin.Â
You bite your lip and grab a large ceramic mug, bringing it to the espresso machine. No one would be crazy enough to order a cold drink in this weather. Mandy takes his order and a few seconds later, his receipt pops up through the printer at your end of the shop:
Ticket 114 - 12/3/93
Name: Javier
LG-Redeye
!memo: darkroast
Javier. The name suits the man, you think to yourself and smile as you begin prepping the espresso for his drink. As you walk to Mandyâs station to fill the mug with drip coffee, she smiles and nudges your side. âIsnât he cute?â She murmurs. You look at the printed ticket then at the coffee warmers: thereâs no dark roast.Â
âVery,â you giggle a little and fill the mug with light instead. Heâs seated in the corner. âI call dibs,â you tease, and Mandy shakes his head. Sheâs married, but she knows your type, and itâs exactly the man sitting there, staring at a newspaper.
âYeah, okay,â she shakes her head but smiles at you. âNo wedding ring either. I think you should bring his drink to him instead of calling out the order.â
Staring down at the filling mug, you shake your head. âWeâll see,â you chuckle softly and return down to your end of the bar, pouring the two shots of espresso. âJavier?â You call in your barista voice, and the man lifts his head and walks to the bar.
âThatâs me,â he says, a small begrudging smile on his face.
âHi,â you chuckle and hold up the mug. âWeâre out of dark roast right now, so I had to use light. Could I put some flavoring or cream or sugar in there for you?â You offer. âOtherwise, I can most definitely make you something else. An americano maybe?â
He pauses for a second. âYeah, an americano would be great,â he nods. âWhat kind of flavors⌠are there?â he asks.Â
âOh, we have a ton,â you say enthusiastically, grabbing the syrup rack and pulling it your way. âAny of these. Hazelnut, vanilla, raspberry,â you smile, rattling off the flavors, âotherwise we also have caramel and any flavor of chocolate.â
Javier raises an eyebrow as he looks at the small display. âNever been somewhere with so many options. Could I do dark chocolate and cream?â He asks, and you nod.
âOf course,â you tell him, dumping the previous mug and grabbing another. âIâll have that right up for you. You can head back to where you were sitting,â you inform him.
He shakes his head. âI can wait here. Save us both a trip.â
You nod. âSure,â you say with a smile, prepping more espresso. âThe redeye and americano are pretty different in caffeine though, the americano is going to have more since thereâs more espresso.â
âI just need as much caffeine as I can get. Tough day ahead,â he nods.Â
âIâve been told bartenders and baristas are wonderful ears to listen,â you offer, a sweet smile on your face.
His guard has fallen like a wrecking ball through a house of cards at the way you smile. âWell, Iâm with the DEA.â It feels strange, openly admitting that around here. Colombians werenât exactly welcoming to American agents, but it felt like citizens around here saw them as some kind of superhero.Â
Your eyes light. âShouldnât it be a fantastic day for you then?â you ask. âI mean, itâs all over the news. Escobar. Do you know the guys in the photo?â You ask with excitement in your voice.
He nods. Escobar was killed yesterday, and itâs all over the news, including the paper back at his table. âYeah. The blonde guy in the red shirt is actually my work partner. Itâs a tough day because I didnât get to be there when it happened. Iâve been down in Colombia for years now, and they catch Escobar two days after I leave.â
The smile on your face turns to a frown. âThatâs⌠awful,â you nod, eyes full of sadness for him. âIâm so sorry. At least it must be nice to be home?â you ask, tilting your head slightly and pouring the espresso shots into the mug.
He shakes his head. âD.C. isnât home. Iâm from Texas,â he admits, and the way he speaks finally registers as a slightly slowed speech pattern from the area. âIâm happy for Steve though. The blonde one, my partner. He deserves it. Weâve been down there for⌠Jesus,â he sighs and looks at the ceiling as he counts the years, âwell, a while now. Couple of years. I fucked up, bad. Honestly, I think Iâm up here to get fired.âÂ
You frown slightly as you pump the chocolate into the hot espresso and water, swirling it around with a spoon. âYou worked on Escobar for years?â you ask, and Javier nods. âWell, then I personally doubt youâd be getting fired. You guys just caught him, everyone must be in a good mood. I guess it depends on how bad you fucked up,â you shrug as you tap the spoon into the sink and bend down to grab the cream.
âI⌠do you know who Los Pepes are?â he asks. You shake your head as you stand, pouring some cream into the steaming drink. âWell, theyâre a radical group who did some crazy shit to try to weaken Escobar, and I got involved with them. I have a meeting today with the review board.â
You finally make eye contact with him, wincing for him. âYeah, that doesnât sound great,â you admit with a chuckle, putting the cream back in the little refrigerator beneath you.Â
âItâs not.â
âItâs not necessarily why you got called up here,â you shrug and grab a saucer, putting the mug on top of it and on the bar for him to take.
âWell, I donât know, I suppose,â he agrees and takes the drink from you.
You shrug. âBest of luck, Javier,â you tell him with a genuine smile of encouragement.
He nods, looking at your name tag attached to your apron. He murmurs your name before looking back up at your face and into your eyes. âThank you.â He takes his drink and returns to his table, and you sigh and return to your makeshift chair in the corner.Â
Mandy pulls up two crates next to you, sitting down across from you with gleaming eyes. âDid it go well? You two talked for a while,â she asks, raising her eyebrows and encouraging you to tell her more.
âA little, but just⌠how I would with anyone, I guess,â you shrug as you sip your mocha for a moment, drinking the last of the warm coffee. âNot like I got his number or anything.â
âHeâs sitting down to drink his coffee. Go offer him a refill when heâs done.â
âThat would require me to stare at him, Mandy, and I think heâd notice that,â you shake your head as you stand to make yourself a new drink.Â
She stands with you, pushing the crates out of the way. âIâll keep an eye on him for you. Iâll signal to you when heâs done or getting low on coffee, and you can bring him a refill. How does that sound?â she asks you.
You nod with a sigh. âSince youâre apparently not going to let this go, fine. I will.âÂ
Mandy claps her hands together excitedly. âYay!â She sings. âOh, will you make me a drink while youâre at it? Iâll have a-â
âSkim hazelnut latte with no foam and light whip,â you recite before she can finish her order.
âYouâre a babe,â she sings and heads over to clean the tables that havenât even been touched since she wiped them an hour ago.Â
You make her drink and set it aside, then work on your own, fourth coffee. The peppermint and the coffee swirl together deliciously in the air, fitting the weather and the time of year. Itâs December, and the snow outside and the warm feeling from the man across the coffee shop contrast in your heart. You sneak glances at him a couple of times, biting your lip to hold back a smile as you admire the handsome face peeking above the newspaper he reads.Â
About ten minutes later, you look up from cleaning the machines to see Mandy tucked behind a wall where he canât see her. Sheâs frantically waving at you, pointing towards Javier once she catches your attention. Go, she mouths excitedly, beaming at you.Â
You wipe your hands on your apron and walk to where she stands. âFine, I will, but youâre making the drinks if anyone else comes in.â
âOh no, how will I handle it?â She asks in a deadpan, eyeing the shop thatâs empty except for the two of you and Javier. âGo,â she says, giving you a light shove and giggling.
You shake your head but walk over, placing a hand lightly on the table. âCoffeeâs looking low. Could I get you a refill?â you offer.
Javier looks up at you, and you feel like turning to jelly as you look into his big brown eyes, filled with confusion but also admiration. He furrows his brow, creating small creases between his eyebrows. âUh⌠sure. How much is it?â he asks, reaching for his wallet and setting down the newspaper.
You put a hand on his arm, giving a gentle smile. âYou need it. Itâs on the shop,â you tell him.
âNo, seriously, what, like $5?â he asks, but you put a hand over his.Â
âNo, Javier,â you chuckle lightly. âDonât worry about it. Another americano with chocolate and cream?â you ask.
âUh⌠make me whatever you like best. And bring one for yourself too.â He says, well, really asks, nodding to the empty chair across from him. âItâs not too busy to talk, is it?â
You swallow hard before you break into a grin. âNo, not at all. Uh⌠do you like peppermint?â you ask.Â
âPeppermint is good,â he says, giving you a small smile.
âPerfect,â you smile softly at him, picking up his empty mug and saucer. âWe have a peppermint mocha, itâs seasonal. Itâs my favorite, Iâll be right back with them,â you say, giggling softly and biting your lip as you turn and walk back to the bar.Â
Youâre hidden behind the espresso machines as you finally grin and giggle, and Mandy rushes to your side. âOh my God,â she laughs happily. âHeâs so hot. What were you guys talking about?â
âHe asked me to sit with him,â you giggle excitedly, preparing four espresso shots.Â
She nearly squeals with excitement, grabbing your arm closest to her. You scoop some chocolate chips and pour milk into a pitcher, putting it under the steam wand. âHoly shit. What has he told you so far? Whatâs his story?â
âWell, he said heâs a DEA agent. Heâs on leave from work right now, but the guy in the red shirt in that picture of Escobar after they killed him? Thatâs his partner,â you tell her, letting the excitement speed your words up. âHeâs been in Colombia for a couple of years working on it. Isnât that cool?â You laugh.Â
âSo cool,â she nods in agreement. âAnd heâs so fucking cute. Girl, you need to get your ass back there before I steal him myself.â
You laugh as you pour the shots and then the steamed milk into the mugs. âIâm trying, but you holding onto one of my arms is holding me back, love,â you tease her and she breaks away. You top both mugs with a perfectly peaked whipped cream layer, then sprinkle candy cane pieces and chocolate chips on top. âWish me luck,â you practically sing as you walk back with a mug for each of you.
Javierâs holding back a grin himself as you make the drinks. He can see your head bobbing along behind the bar, the other woman chatting with you. Heâs more transfixed than you than he should allow himself to be, but all fears fade as he sees you approaching with a grin and two large, whipped cream-topped drinks.
You set the drink down in front of him and he smiles at you. âWow. ThisâŚâ he looks down at it and smiles a little. âWell, it looks sweet.â
âI have a sweet tooth,â you admit with a soft laugh and sit down, taking a sip and sighing softly. âIt tastes like winter. I love it.â He nods and takes a sip too. Itâs sweet, but not as bad as he expected. âI added extra espresso to yours,â you tell him, a shy smile on your face.Â
âA woman after my own heart,â he chuckles and sets it down, licking the foam off of his mustache.Â
You smile a little wider at that and hold back a laugh. âDid you want to talk about the meeting?â you ask him, tilting your head, your expression softening.
Javierâs already falling, and he curses himself as he looks at you. Not a thought except him. Heâs already thinking of a sly way to get your number. âNo, not really. I just spilled basically my entire life story to you.â
âThen youâve had a very short and boring life. That was hardly anything. Iâve had customers come in and cry over divorces or lost family members; the whole job situation was mild,â you chuckle and admit, tracing the rim of the mug with your fingertips and staring down at the steaming drink.
âReally? You seem like a therapist and a barista in one,â he teases lightly.
âWell, I did just graduate with a Masters in psychology,â you shrug. âI just graduated with it from Georgetown. Thatâs why Iâm here,â you tell him and look up. âWorking here part-time while I decide what I want to do.â
âNo shit. I did my undergrad in psych and sociology,â Javier says with a small smile, making your smile grow too. âTexas A&M though. Nothing as prestigious as Georgetown.â
âA&M isnât anything to sneeze at,â you chuckle as you look over at him. His eyes are deep-set, deeper than they probably normally are. Theyâre bloodshot and hold bags beneath them. After a breath, you bite your lip and look him in the eye. âYou look tired. I donât know you normally, I understand. Maybe you shouldnât finish this,â you tell him with a concerned smile, scooting his mug towards you. âToo much caffeine.â
âNo, I need it, please,â he says, tugging it back and sipping at it again. âJust⌠until after this meeting. Then Iâll know what my future holds, then I can rest.â
âWhat time is it at?â
â5:00.â
Thereâs a beat of silence. âI donât have any plans tonight,â you say gently, looking at him with a question in your eyes. âWould you like to get dinner? Talk things out, once you know what your future holds?â You offer, a soft smile and hopeful eyes. âI already know enough about you. This could be practice therapy for me,â you tease softly.
Javier thinks for a second, though he knows what the answer will be. At least pretends to think, surprised that you could hear all he had said about Los Pepes and working in Colombia and that you still offered. âIâd like that,â he nods, his voice soft when he looks at you. âI donât know the area well. Youâll have to tell me where.â
âDo you have a car up here?â You ask him, and he shakes his head. âI can pick you up,â you offer. âWhere are you staying?â
He grabs a napkin and pats his pockets for a pen. You hand him the paint pen tucked on your apron and he quickly thanks you before writing down the address to the hotel. You take the napkin and the pen and grab another napkin. âAnd thisâŚâ you say and write down your phone number, sliding it to him, âis where youâll call me when youâre ready for me to come get you. Okay?â You ask.
Your voice is so soothing, Javier thinks. More than sleep or reassurance or even a hit of Escobarâs private stash or really anything could be to him right now, itâs a comfort. You must be a miracle, he thinks, some kind of blessing for something he isnât quite sure of, but he must have done something right in the eyes of the Almighty to be here, right now, talking with you. âYou know, I was raised Catholic,â he tells you and leans in a little. âI donât know that I am anymore. But still⌠I think you might be an angel in disguise.â
Biting your lip, you giggle and look down. âI donât know about that,â you chuckle as you look up at him again. âJust⌠right place, right time, maybe. Iâll see you tonight, okay?â you ask him, placing your hand over his and standing.
Javier nods as he looks up at you. âHow should I dress?â he asks and tilts his head. His eyes are so expressive, you notice and smile a bit. They betray exactly what heâs thinking.
âUm⌠what youâre wearing now would be fine. A button down and jeans would work,â you tell him with a nod, patting his hand and picking up your mug. âIâll see you then. Good luck,â you tell him with a sweet smile and retreat to the back. Javier canât say anything in return, just sips his peppermint mocha.
Three minutes later, you return with a muffin. âEat this. You canât have all that caffeine and no food.â
âThanks,â he chuckles and looks down at it. Youâre gone when he looks back up, and he breaks off a piece. What a weird day. Itâs only about to get weirder.

Sequel to Helping Hands: One Two Three Four Five

After so many years of going to see Dr. Beta, you were used to the routine when you stepped through the doors. It was late in their work day so you were the only person in the office other than Valarie, the receptionist, who gave you a kind smile. âGood afternoon,â she said, typing something onto her computer. âDr. Betaâs just about ready.â
âThanks, Valarie,â you say, setting your bag down to take off your suit.
It had been weird the first time Dr. Beta had demanded you not wear the suit during your sessions. You protested but in the end, she won out. There were a lot of reasons for choosing a female-only office but this was the biggest one. They accommodate you so much just to make you feel welcome and safe in your own skin. It was one of the few places that you could take the suit off and feel comfortable.
The suit was just being zipped up into your bag when the door to the doctorâs office opened. Dr. Beta was a matronly middle aged woman with plenty of laugh lines and crow's feet from years of laughter and joy. She was a kind beta who had done wonders for your mental health and self esteem. Without her, you probably wouldnât have gone through with the job proposal.
She called your name with a gentle smile, âYou ready?â
âYep,â you smiled, walking over to step into the room. The blinds were closed tight but there were several lamps around the space that allowed a soft light to keep it illuminated. The wooden diffuser was pumping out the soothing smell of lemon and sandalwood. Dr. Beta had always said the lemon helped cut the potency of your powers but you werenât sure if that was true or if it was something she said to make you feel better.
The two of you settled into your usual spots before the doctor asks, âAnything new since we last saw each other?â
It had been a month since your last session. The milestone of going monthly instead of bi-monthly had been huge for you. There was a time that you saw her weekly, which was when you were at your lowest. You were glad to be where you were.
âWhere do I even start?â you laugh, leaning casually back on the leather couch. The cold material felt nice on the bare skin that peeked out from your denim shorts and athletic tank top. âIâve been meeting regularly with three guys to run with them every Tuesday and Thursday. We also go out for drinks and the game on Sunday.â
âWow, thatâs fantastic!â she gushed, genuinely excited for you. She even sat her clipboard and pen down to lean forward with her elbows on her knees. It was something she only did when you made some kind of...positive choice in your life. The way it made your chest swell with self pride was silly and kind of childish but the woman had always been extra motherly to you. âClients?â
âOne of them was,â you nod, trying to keep the flush of excitement from making you seem too eager. âTheyâre really nice guys and they invited me to start sparring with them next week after our runs.â
A gentle look crossed the doctorâs face that had you melting. It was a look that she gave when she was proud and the way your name came out of her mouth spoke volumes. âIâm so proud of you,â she said aloud even though you knew it by her body language. âItâs been a long time since you took time for yourself in your personal life. Are they on your level of martial arts?â
âBetter!â you said, excited to have a good challenge.
âBetter than you?â she laughed, sounding incredulous. âIâd have to see that to believe it!â You join her for the laugh. âAnything else?â
Your mind flutters to a certain blond and his proposition but decide to keep that to yourself for now. It wasnât good for you to hide secrets from Dr. Beta and you usually didnât, however, she would definitely encourage you to take him up on the offer. You didnât think you were ready to come up with reasons (lies) for why you couldnât do that yet.
âNot really.â
She nods, grabbing her clipboard to flip the paper. âDr. Noland said you were going to get your heat early this time around. She said you mentioned you might know why?â
Damn it. You forgot how much the two doctors communicated between each other about your health. It was the program you were in and, while amazingly helpful, could be very annoying at times. Case in point, now you need to make a choice on whether to point blank lie to Dr. Beta or just tell the truth. Lying by omission was much more your style.
âYeah,â you sigh, resigning yourself to the conversation. âThe last client I helped had...intense pheromones. I think it may have kicked me into my heat cycle early.â
The doctorâs hazel eyes widened in shock, âEven with the suppressant you took?â
Nodding, you look away for a second. âThe client was a super soldier,â you admit, running a hand through your hair in frustration.
Understanding blossomed on her face when she made a guess as to who you were talking about. âWell, that might do it, for sure,â she nodded, making a note. âStill, Iâm going to have Dr. Noland change your suppressant just in case itâs not working.â
She stood up, going over to the cabinet behind her desk. She took out a large bottle, tossing it to you, that had heat vitamins in them. Another bottle was thrown your way full of pills specifically for healthy slick production. The last thing she came over with were a few vouchers for omega-centric energy drinks and heat-snacks.
âI know you hate this question but I am legally required to ask,â she chuckles. âDo you have someone you trust to help you through your heat?â
You hesitate. âNo.â
Her head snaps up, hazel eyes pinning you to the spot. âYou hesitated. You never hesitate,â she points out with far too much excitement. She sets the clipboard down, doing the lean again. âDo you have someone in mind?â
Well, the cat was out of the bag and now you couldnât lie because she would never believe you now. âI was...propositioned,â you admit, feeling stupidly relieved that you had been honest with her. She had conditioned you so fucking well to feel better when you told the truth as opposed to lying. It had been a âbad coping mechanismâ you created during your childhood to gain some control of your otherwise uncontrollable life.
âBy one of your new friends?â she asked, already getting the gist of the conversation. âWas it your client?â
âNo, not my client but his...best friend,â you whisper, feeling a little embarrassed that you were having this conversation.
Dr. Beta is quiet for a moment, contemplating how to ask the question. âWhats the big deal then? Why not take him up on the offer?â
You cringe. âThere areâŚa lot of reasons but Iâm sure youâre going to make them seem like theyâre not problems but things Iâve blown up in my mind.â
She laughs, shaking her head. âYou know your feelings and worries are valid! I just help you see things in a more logical light. I think you should really talk this through with him but...would you like to practice with me?â
You bite your lower lip but give a heavy sigh when you realize thereâs still nearly forty minutes left of your time with her. âFine. It canât hurt.â
You sat in the booth twitching with your napkin. You and the owner were good friends from back in your academy days so he allowed you to pay a certain amount for the whole rooftop terrace. It meant you could enjoy a meal with someone without having to wear your suit. You also got the same female server every time who knew your situation and didnât care.
âHey, sorry Iâm late,â you heard a familiar voice say to your left.
Not really sure why, you stood up when he approached. He was wearing a thin blue zip-up jacket over a blue and white plaid button up shirt that was unbuttoned enough for you to see the white t-shirt he had under it. His jeans were dark and fit far too well around his massive thighs. A plain blue ball cap sat on his head and some fake glasses to help hide his identity. The smile he gave you was enough to make your preheat brain purr.
It took you by surprise when his big arms wrapped you up in a hug that smothered you in his masculine scent. Your hands touched his back, hugging him hesitantly. The squeeze lasted a little longer than you expected, just enough for your head to be perfectly swimming in his pheromones.
You pulled away when he did, allowing him to sit at the far side of the table, facing towards the rest of the area. He had insisted that you come without your suit so it was the least you could do to keep the waitress from noticing his erection.
âItâs okay, I ordered some water for us,â you smile, genuinely happy to see him. It wasnât often that you saw any of the three men individually. They usually hung out in a pack and you were happy to know that you fit into the group pretty well. âGet whatever you want, Steve. Itâs my treat.â
He gave you a look. âI would prefer it if you let me pay.â
Your heart gave a hard thump in your chest. There was something about the way he said it that was just short of a command. You look into his blue eyes, trying to gauge his intent before setting down the menu. âIs this some old-fashioned pride I see leaking through?â you tease, giving him a mischievous grin.
âNo, I just figure it was only right that I buy you lunch before helping you with your heat,â he said so casually it made your face heat.
âWhat makes you think Iâm going to agree?!â you laugh loudly.
There is a knowing glint in his eyes that makes your stomach flip. âIsnât that why weâre here? Alone?â he questioned easily, looking up just as Julia came to the table.
âWelcome back,â she greets you, setting two empty glasses and a pitcher of water down on the table. âMy nameâs Julia.â
âNice to meet you Julia,â Steve responded with a neutral smile. It caught you a little off guard because it...definitely wasnât the smile he gave you. Was it just part of his disguise?
You both ordered a beer and your entrees. It wasnât until Julia walked away that you focused back on the alpha across from you. He was already looking at you with an intense expression. You feel like heâs basically prying into your soul.
âI...spoke with my therapist yesterday andâŚâ you start, finding it very hard to talk about this kind of thing. It was so easy to soothe your clients but so hard to give yourself a break. âShe...convinced me to talk with you about my...worries.â
His expression softens a bit. âIâm willing to work with you,â he soothes, reaching out to take your hand. His fingers curled around yours, warm and solid. âTell me everything.â
You take a deep breath. âIâm not afraid of hurting you,â you blurt out. âYou can take me even on your worst day. Iâm...embarrassed to count myself among the small population of omegas that go...feral during their heat. I...fight my partner. Dr. Beta says it's because of the trauma I experienced. Trauma doesn't just disappear during heat...it gets worse. Iâm just not the usual kind of docile omega that society seems to exemplify.â
He looks up to alert you that Julia was returning with your drinks. He didnât speak until she was back inside the building. âTruthfully, Iâm actually more intrigued than put off by the notion,â he finally said after taking a sip of his beer. âDo you fight the whole time or just in the beginning?â
It wasnât a line of questioning that you expected so you gaped at him like a fish out of water for a few seconds before finding your words. âI donât...know,â you admit sheepishly, sipping your hard cider. âIâve only been with one alpha during my heat and he had to go to the hospital a few hours into it.â
Something dark and tempting flashed through the blondâs eyes. âHow do you feel about restraints?â
Your core throbbed at the simple question. It probably showed on your face because his smile started to widen in understanding. âYes, thatâs fine,â you breathe, trying not to think too hard about the implications.
âWould you prefer to do this at your house or in my suite?â he asked as if you had already agreed to the whole thing.
Your mind screamed at you to say decline. It was dangerous and there were so many things that could go wrong. Your omega brain though had already bought into the whole thing. You wanted this big, powerful alpha to hold you down and take you in the most forceful of ways. You wanted him to restrain you to your nest and have his way with you until the heat fog cleared.
âWait, wait,â you say, trying to finish your thoughts before deciding anything. âIâm serious when I say Iâm insatiable. I donât have any refractory period between one wave and the next.â
Julia opens the door, alerting you both that she was coming out with food. You both wait until everything is set and she walks away before continuing. The food smells delicious so you grab the burger and bite into it. You always craved red meat before your heat so when the flavors burst across your taste buds, you hum in appreciation.
Steve took a few bites of his own meal before responding. âThe super soldier serum makes it so I donât have any refractory period,â he shrugs casually with a smile. âIâve never met someone who could keep up with me so...Iâm interested to see if you can. Any other worries?â
Heat blossoms across your cheek and in your chest. âI donât want our friendship to be jeopardized,â you finally admit after finishing half of your burger. You grab some of the fries and eat them while thinking.
âDid helping Bucky keep you from being friends with him?â
âNo, of course not,â you sigh, running out of excuses. Dr. Beta had been right, talking with him had definitely made you a little more comfortable with the idea. âFine, okay, I accept your offer.â
âMy place or yours?â he asks with a genuine smile.
You mull over the question for a bit before shrugging. âI have all of my nesting supplies at my house so we can do it at mine,â you chuckle, feeling a little nervous but excited too.
He nods. âDo I need to bring any supplies? Snacks or drinks?â
The two of you continue talking about the logistics of your heat while you finish the food. It makes you feel a lot better knowing you wouldnât have to go through with it alone. You had already taken the initiative to send a message to all of your clients to let them know you would be out for your heat. You even went ahead and took an extra week just for yourself.
After you pay and you have your layers back on, the two of you stand outside the doors to the restaurant. You donât want to leave him, truthfully. He smelt so good and you were so close to your heat that it was hard to separate from him. âThanks for talking with me,â you smile despite the bonnet covering everything but your eyes. âIâll give you a text when Iâm ready.â
âOf course, thanks for lunch,â he chuckles, leaning down to kiss your forehead through the layers. âHere, take this for your nest.â
He shucked his jacket and offered it. Your hand reaches out to take it slowly. âThanks but this might just push me into it faster,â you laugh brightly, holding the large jacket close to your chest. You could smell the scent of him even through all of your layers. It made your head foggy.
âThatâs the idea,â he smirked, turning towards the tower with a wave. âJust let me know when you want me to come over.â
You watch him walk away, eyes lingering on the way his biceps stretched the fabric of his shirt and down until you stared at his toned ass in those jeans. It was obvious how close you were to your heat when sweat started to form along your temples and slick started to dampen your panties.
Once you got back home, you arranged your snacks and vitamins on the counter so they were easy for Steve to find. He might need to feed you for the first few waves because you werenât sure if youâd be coherent or not. Then you went into your extra bedroom that you used for your heats and started getting it ready.
You pulled out all of your slick-resistant pillows, cushions and blankets from the closet to make a nest on your king sized bed. It was a nice four post bed that had your mind in dark places. All you could think about was being restrained with cuffs around one of those posts while Steve fucked into you.
It didnât take long before you needed a pad for all of the fucking slick that was making everything so annoying. The nest took a lot longer that you would like to admit because it just didnât seem...right. Youâd never had this kind of issue before but your omega brain wanted Steve to be comfortable and happy too.
Looking back at the closet, you debated on whether or not you wanted to pull out the box of toys. You werenât sure if Steve would want them or need them orâŚ
âFuck it,â you mutter, grabbing your phone to send the alpha a quick text. Toys or no toys?
You were adding his jacket to your nest when your phone vibrated in your pocket. Instead of the one or two word answer that you expected, it was...something else.
Definitely toys. Iâll enjoy teasing you until youâre begging for my knot.
Fuckinâ hell! Was this the same blond with the surprisingly boyish face that you had met during lunch today? The same guy that Sam teased about being an old virgin?
You didnât think the pad was going to hold up to all of the slick that gush from you at the text. How does one respond to a text like that? You grabbed out the delicate pink box out of the closet, wincing at the color because it was the only color that the shop had to store your toys. Omegas were feminine right?! They liked pink, right?!
Laughing at yourself, you set the box on the little table in the room. You opened the lid and set it to the side so you could look at your assortment of toys. It was a collection you started when your first heat hit you at sixteen. You had been a late bloomer because of your constant martial arts training, which stilted your omega hormones.
It had all the necessities and even some extras. You had your typical knot dildo, a vibrator, a clit vibe, a few different types of condoms for when you werenât in your heat, a bottle of lube that encouraged slick production, a bottle of regular lube, and a few different sized anal plugs. The last few were just because you enjoyed the feeling of being full when having sex.
Quickly you took a picture of the box and sent it to Steve as a reply. It was the best you could come up with. You had never really been good at those kinds of things. Well, youâd never had someone try and sext you.
Happy that everything was prepared, you cuddled under your fuzzy blanket in your nest. Comfort flooded through you as you nuzzled into the manâs jacket, deeply taking in his scent. It was nice and musky and made you feel warm and safe.
The phone buzzed. Youâre okay with anal during your heat?
Your pheromone idled brain made you giggle, âConsent is important,â before you could text him back. Yes, I like being stuffed full.
It didnât even register how inappropriate the text sounded before you hit send. You were obviously a lot further along than you had previously thought. The subtle throb of your core was starting to get worse but you werenât too far gone to see his last text.
Good to know. Get some rest. Need me to come out and check on you before dark?
You groaned as a cramp hit your pelvis, slick becoming an issue. It simultaneously hurt and felt good. You were so distracted that you couldnât answer the text message. Everything was suddenly too hot so you threw off your clothing, slipping your hand down to brush against your clit. It was already so sensitive it hurt but you needed relief.
It wasnât enough and you knew that it would be futile to try and get yourself off with just your fingers but your brain wasnât working. You groaned helplessly as the lackluster orgasm washed over you. It wasnât enough, so frustratingly not enough. Sweat dripped down your cheek from your hairline making you kick off the blanket so you could turn over.
You didnât care how it looked with your ass up because the scent of Steve on the jacket helped clear your head a little. It made your core throb but it also helped you become coherent. Enough so that you grabbed the phone and typed in a one word response that only said:
Now.

Saturday afternoon in late September, it was still warm and you enjoyed the last ray of sunshine. You were happy to have a bit time for yourself, but this only last for a few minutes, because the Weasley twins knew the meadow near the lake was your favorite place. It would have been only a matter of time until they joined you with biscuits and pastries from the school kitchen.
âY/N, we are really sad that you didnât invite us to spend the afternoon with you,â Fred complained with a fake pout, but he looked adorable when he did it.
âThat was the point. I want alone time, but here you are,â you huffed laughing and shook your head when the twins sat down on either side of you on the blanket.
âOh, thatâs rude. Â Youâre hurting our feelings, Y/N,â George responded and laid his hand above his heart. You could only roll your eyes about their behavior.
âYeah, Georgie is right. We want an apology,â Fred demanded chuckling and poked you into your ribs with his pointy finger.
âOuch, that hurts.â You rubbed over the point on your side.
âYouâre just too weak,â Fred observed and you shoved him hard on his shoulder that he fell backwards.
âHey, what was that for?â
âFor calling a girl weak,â you replied sassy.
âFine, you arenât weak, but you shoved like a girl.â
You smacked him on the back of his head and he hissed from the slight pain.
âWhy are you attacking me?â
âYouâre the one who is mean to me.â
Fred clicked his tongue. âI am mean to you? Youâre hitting me.â
âStop this nonsense. I have a peace-offering,â George disclosed and opened the basket with biscuits and pastries.
âOh, yummy, you bring me lemon cake,â you cheered and took one of the little cakes in your hand. You bit in the delicious mass and the flavor of citrus fruits exploded on your tongue.
âSo good,â you mumbled and ate the piece in two more bites.
âAre you two friends again?â George chuckled.
âOkay, we have truce, but only if he doesnât start his childish behavior again,â you said with your mouth still full of lemon cake.
âBefore you speak, you should gulp your food. Itâs impolite,â Fred remarked with a grin.
You turned your head to him with widened eyes. âYouâre the one with bad manners.â
âCan we have at least one day without the both of you teasing each other?â George huffed laughing and nudged you in the side.
âWeâre not teasing each other, thatâs how weâre showing our affection to each other,â Fred explained and you nodded eating another lemon cake.
âAlright, and how do you show affection towards me?â
You licked a few crumbles from your lips while George watched curiously. âYou couldnât handle me being mean to you, so Iâm very friendly to you, and youâre the nicer twin by the way.â
âI can hear you,â Fred exclaimed beside you, but you just gave him a side-glance and shrugged your shoulders.
You talked with the twins about the last lesson in Astronomy and if you already wrote the essay for the next Potionsâ lesson. You were already done, but you wanted to reread it this evening, because it was due tomorrow. Like always Fred wanted to copy your homework, but you denied it like always.
âYou are the smart one of us, Y/N. Why donât you help me?â Fred fake cried and you shook your head again.
âWho said youâre not smart?â
âYou, yesterday, remember?â
âYouâre both are smartest guys I knew, except for Hermione.â
âHermione lives in the library, of course, sheâs smart.â
You three laughed at Georgeâs comment and you ate your third lemon cake.
âYou should be careful with eating so many cakes,â George said with a concerned tone in his voice.
âAnd why is that so?â you asked slightly offended. âWant you say that Iâm fat?â
George held his hands up in defeat. I mean you should consider the thought. The Yule Ball is in a few weeks and you want to fit in your dress, right?â
âOh, shut up, who says that Iâll go to the ball?â
âWhy not, Y/N? Donât you have a date already?â Fred asked curiously.
You snorted through your nose and ate demonstratively a fourth lemon cake.
âIs that a no?â Fred asked again.
âWhy are you asking anyway, Fred?â you replied a little mad. You didnât really want to talk about the Yule Ball and who would be your date to the ball. Fred knew exactly that you didnât have a date; you would have told both of them. The twins were your best friends since your first day in Hogwarts, if something special like that would happen they would be the first to know.
There were a few boys who had asked you, but you declined every invitation politely. You waited for special guy to ask you, but you werenât very hopefully that this would happen.
âIâm just curious,â Fred answered shrugging and you frowned at his words.
âYou know you could go with us,â George suggested from your right side and you frowned even more.
âDonât you have other options then to go with your girl best friend?â
âOh, we have a lot of options. Fred is burning to ask Angelina, but heâs too afraid to ask.â
You burst out into laughter. âFred Weasley isnât brave enough to ask a girl for a date?â
You couldnât stop the laughter, but Fred looked really offended by your words.
âThatâs not funny, Y/N,â Fred uttered seriously and you sensed immediately that he wasnât joking.
âIâm sorry, of course, itâs not funny. But why are you scared? Just ask her. She canât say more than no. I mean that would be sad, but Iâm sure you will find someone else to ask.â
Fred made an unpleasant noise. âThatâs-+ not so easy in practice.â
âFred likes Angelina. He likes her in a romantic way, George whispered in your ear and your eyes widened in surprise, but then you began to smile softly. You laid your hand on top of Fredâs and he looked up after his eyes were glued to his shoes.
âYou should ask her. She will say yes, Fred. Trust me,â you encouraged him and Fredâs eyes lighted up with hope when he processed your words in his mind.
âAre you saying that she likes me too?â
âYeah, she fancies you a lot. So go on, mate, before some other guy will ask her. Angelina is a popular girl.â
âGet her, Freddie!â George shouted after Fred ran back to the castle, but before he was gone he kissed your cheek to thank you.
âI didnât know he liked Angelina so much. How long does he feel like this?â You asked George frowning and feeling bad that you didnât notice anything.
âOh, I think since second grade. Donât feel bad, I can see it on the tip of your nose. He didnât show any signs until they announced that there would be the ball. He told me when we talked about who we should ask for a date. You see I didnât know either.â
You took a deep breath and thought that even your best friends had secrets. That was okay actually, because every person had secrets that they kept to themselves. Even you had a secret. Your sight wandered to George and you watched his profile. The red, messy hair, the straight nose and his full lips, the freckles around his nose and then he looked at you with his deep brown eyes.
You turned your head away very quickly and you didnât see the smug grin on Georgeâs face, because he definitely knew that you stared at him.
âSo, Y/N, what about you? Did anyone ask you already?â George wanted to know and you just shook your head.
âNo one or no one you liked?â
âEhm, no one I liked so far, but I have still a few weeks. And what about you?â
You wanted to change the direction, so that you wouldnât talk about you anymore.
âMy invitation was serious, Y/N. If you want I can go with you to the ball,â George offered and you quirked an eyebrow.
âWouldnât that be weird?â
âWhy would that be weird?â George asked and rolled onto his side to look at you directly.
âIâm your best friend. You should go with a girl you have a crush on,â you considered and laid your head down hoping this conversation would be over soon. You wished that you would be this girl for George, but you were sure he only saw you as his best friend and he shouldnât go with you to the ball out of pity.
âThere is no other girl I have a crush on,â George answered casually and smiled gentle at you.
âOf course, thereâs a girl you must have a crush on. Who is it? You know all the boys like Fleur Delacour apparently.â
âYes, Fleur is beautiful, but she doesnât appeal to me.â
âWell, who is it then? Is it maybe a muggle girl from your home town. I know you canât ask her, butâŚâ
âY/N,â George said more vigorous and you shut your mouth. âLike I said there is no other girl. Thereâs only you.â
You watched him confused and wanted to say something, but you didnât trust your brain to say something stupid.
âMe?â you could only say flabbergasted and George nodded chuckling.
âDid I miss something? Are you joking with me?â you considered carefully.
George stroked your cheek with his thumb, the touch felt light as a feather, and he wandered further to trace your bottom lip. Goosebumps spread over your naked arms and your breath went slightly faster. George never touched you in this way and you were only more confused.
âNo, Iâm serious. Youâre the girl I have a crush on.â
âWhat⌠but you never⌠no⌠why⌠You like me?â
You were utterly shocked for a moment. The boy you had a crush on since the first day of school, confessed that he had a crush on you too. It sounded unreal to you, but George just smiled at you the whole time and you didnât think that he was making fun of you.
âI really like you, Y/N. Do you want to have a proof?â
âWhat?â you asked confused. His words confused you more and more.
âOkay, wind back and stop. Can you just explain me why you are suddenly like me?â
âI donât like you suddenly. I like for quite a while, to be honest I fancy since the first year here.â
âWhy you didnât then say anything?â
âBecause you always treated me like a brother. But since we know that there will be a ball, you started to look different at me. Little glances when we were sitting in the class and you smiled differently at me. Not the sassy one you always have, your new smile was more dreamy and⌠longing.â
You didnât know you were so obviously in your behavior towards George. You felt embarrassed and the blood was rushing into your face.
âDonât be shy, Y/N. I like the way you look at me and I donât want it to change. I hope you only look at me like this for very long time.â
You bite your lip while you thought about his words. You believed him, but his words only encouraging you to be more yourself and not some shy girl. You werenât the bashful type and George knew this.
âIâm never shy, Georgie. So, what proof do you have?â
âArenât my words enough?â he teased you and you laughed at his half-grin.
âOh, I believe you, but you talked about a proof, so?â
Georgeâs grin grew wider and he wiggled his eyebrows. âYou asked for it, donât forget.â
You giggled, but you were interrupted when he cupped your face with one hand and pressed his mouth to your. Your eyes closed automatically and you felt nothing else than the gentle pressure of his lips, they were warm and a little wet, just liked you imagined many times before. George was really kissing you, and now you were overwhelmed by your feelings. You didnât know if you should wait until he break the kiss or if you should go further and deepening the kiss. You decided to be brave. You opened your mouth experimentally and kissed him back slowly. You began to massage fondly his lips to test if he liked to join you and George didnât hesitate to intensify your kissing.
His lips were slightly chapped, but you liked the rough feeling and you changed the angle of your head to kiss more passionately. Finally came movement in your limbs and you buried your hands in the soft strains of his long hair.
The only thing you could think of his warm hand on your cheek, the hot breath against your mouth, and he moved slowly to lay more on top of you, so he could place his other hand in your neck.
All of this felt like a dream to you and you were afraid that could wake up every second.
You never thought that George was a so good kisser. Well, it wasnât your first kiss, but it definitely felt better than any kiss youâve ever had.
George got more courage and he showed it when the tip of his tongue licked your upper lip. Your body shuddered from this sudden action, but you allowed him the access. Tentatively he explored your mouth with his tongue and caressed yours gentle. You moaned when your tongues played passionately with each other.
The noise you made went straight to Georgeâs core and he pressed his body closer to you. Your smell was intoxicating for him and he couldnât get enough of your taste, but he knew that he would have to stop soon, because he didnât want to go further without your permission and he thought that it would be still too early.
Slowly he ended the kiss and leaned his forehead against yours. You were both panting slightly and he pressed another kiss smiling on your lips.
âY/N, oh dear, I thought about this since⌠I donât know, but I wished to kiss for a very long time.â
You chuckled at his words and caressed his cheek tenderly.
âI feel the same, George, and yes, Iâll go with you to the ball.â
George raised his head to look you properly in the eyes and he beamed at you with happiness.
âYou make me very happy, sweetheart. Can call you that?â he asked only to be sure.
âYou can call me sweetheart, honey, dear, darling, baby. Whatever you like,â you assured him and he leaned down to embrace you in a tight hug.
You enjoyed to lay with George there for a while in silence and played with the hair in his neck. Both of your breathing were frequent and you listened to the noises of the nature around you.
âDo you think Angelina said yes?â George asked curiously.
âWell, letâs find out. I think itâs time that we go back, there will be dinner served in the great hall very soon.â
You loosened your embrace and George put the food back in the basket while you rolled the blanket up. You were both smiling and holding hands when you were walking back to the castle. If felt right and you knew that bond between the both of you were something special.
Fred already sat on the Gryffindor table and showed you a thumbs up and George hold your intertwined fingers in the air.

A Little Braver - Chapter 2
I think I will be brave as well and post chapter 2.
In the chapter when Rowan muses about his call sign he uses the term FNG - it literally mean Fucking new guy. In US military it describes a newcomer.
Enjoy the chapter!
--------
The next morning Rowan was on his way to the fire station. He had left the house a bit early to allow for traffic or getting lost. In the end he had arrived with ten minutes to spare. He parked the car along the road and walked to the main area in front of the station and stopped.Â
The tall training building was on fire and a few people were outside in front of it as if in waiting. He searched for the captain but she was not there. He wanted to go and ask to the team about her whereabouts but did not want to interrupt the training session. So he just decided to lean against a wall of the fire station, arms folded at his chest and just watch the drill.Â
He was curious about why they were not using the truck or water and wondered if they were following a specific exercise.
Being a fighter pilot was full of risks but by looking at the raging fire and thinking that there were people willingly putting themselves through that inferno made him shiver. Heâd rather been strapped in a metal cage than in a house on fire.
All of a sudden a figure ran out of the building carrying what looked like a dummy and two more followed. He gasped when he recognised the captain. The dummy she was carrying on her shoulders must have weighed a ton and he was impressed. He followed her, dumping the dummy on the ground and joining the tall blonde man and pat him on the shoulder looking happy. His lips turned up in a hint of a smile.
Her eyes met his and she gave him a huge smile and Rowan straightened up and pulled away from the wall. She walked to him while unbuttoning her bulky fireproof jacket.
âMorning Captain,â she brushed her hair away from her face and Rowanâs heart started to race.
âEnjoyed the show?â
He cleared his voice while he tried to gain some sense again âThat was fascinating.â
âCan you give me twenty minutes to have a very quick shower and get changed? You donât want to be in a meeting with a stinky woman.â
Captain Whitethorn nodded âTake your time.â
âYou can go and meet the guys. They are a friendly bunch.â She offered âjust ignore the lewd jokes.â
âThank you for the headâs up.â
Aelin ran away and he gathered some courage and walked to the team. He was not the best around people he did not know, but he wanted to play nice.
He took another step and the tall blond man noticed him and walked with purpose toward him and offered him his hand âCaptain Whitethorn isnât it?â
Rowan nodded.
âAelin told us you were coming. I am Lieutenant Ashryver.â
Rowan nodded and studied the man in front of him and noticed that his posture and attitude screamed military. After he had spent all his adult life in the force he had gotten used to spot one of them. He had the same feeling at the base during the fire.Â
âCan I introduce you to our team?â
âGladly.â
Aedion turned to the red-haired woman âLadies first. This is Ansel. Never leave her and Aelin alone because then you are in trouble.â
âHey, Iâll tell her you said that and she will put you on truck cleaning duties for a month.â Aedion ignored her and continued âthen here we have Brullo, Nox, Ress, Ren and finally Luca.â He grabbed the young manâs shoulder âhe is our probie. He finished the academy and he joined us a few months ago. For now he is coming to the less serious calls but we are planning on coddling him a bit less and make him see the real stuff as well.â
Then the man turned around, scanning the area in search for something or someone âwe also have two EMTs, Elide and Lysandra but they must be around the station doing something. You will meet them anyway.â
âItâs a pleasure to meet you all.â
âEveryone, clean up and donât leave everything to Luca. All of you haul ass. Nox, Ren you are on equipment duty. Ansel, Ress you two are on uniform checks. Brullo, take Luca with you and go over him some truck procedures for before and after calls. Now away all of you.â
Rowan chuckled. The man was definitely ex military.Â
âWhere did you serve?â He asked the man taking a chance.
âI was in the army. I was an artillery specialist. Once I retired Aelin called me saying her station was looking for recruits and I applied for the job. Guess my experience with explosives and such was a plus. Many years later I am still here and still loving it.â Then he studied the Captain âhow did you guess?â
âYour posture. Itâs the stick up your arse, as Captain Galathynius would say, that gets drilled into you from day one. The way you give order, again, very familiar.â
âCall her Aelin, Cap or Captain. She hates being called Captain Galathynius.â
Rowan raised a eyebrow with curiosity for that statement.
âI usually call her brat or menace.â Aedion chuckled âshe is my cousin. I have known her since we were little. I have earned that privilege.â
Aedion started walking back into the station and Captain Whitethorn followed him.
âShe has the bas habit of not filtering what she wants to say, can be brash and very vocal when she is mad at something or someone, but she loves her job and her team. She loves being a firefighter. She might be young be she is extremely capable. She is the first female captain. Absurd to think that before her it was just a boyâs club, eh?â The man joked, and lead him into a big spacious room with a lone table and chair and a kitchen at the bottom of it âIf she keeps likes this I can see her climbing up the ladder pretty quickly, although I cannot imagine her in a desk job.â
Rowan knew very little about the woman but he had the same feeling.
âThis is where we spend most of the time when we are on shift, all tasks are done and just wait for a call. We have books, video-games, tv⌠you name it. And like all families we fight for who controls the remote.â
Aelin joined them a moment later âAre you giving our Captain the tour?â
âYes, just the cheap tour for now. You can give him the proper one later.â Aedion winked at her.
âI guess that after our meeting, the Captain will be more than happy to get rid of me.
âI gave you a tour of the base, I would love a tour of the station.â
Aelinâs mouth almost fell open in disbelief.
âIf you are not fed up with me we can think about it.â And she turned around and walked away the same way he did the day before.Â
Aedion gestured with his head to follow her and Rowan ran after her.
âI am sorry for the delay. Once I got back to work yesterday I had an email saying that our annual performance review is due in three weeks. I did not have a way to contact you otherwise I would have pushed the meeting forward a bit.â
âIt was actually interesting watching you guys train.â He followed her to her office and took the seat she offered âwe have performance reviews as well. What do you guys have to do?â
Aelin was caught off guard by him being talkative all of a sudden âWe get tested on our abilities. We usually go to the academy, are given a scenario and the whole team has to work as if that was a real call. We also get to perform some individual tasks and those are timed. Itâs a very stressful period.â
âYou can leave our project to me until you are done with your review. I am happy to give you an update and you can come once a week to check how things are progressing if you are too busy.â
âAre you trying to get rid of me, Captain?â She smiled at him, leaning back in her chair.
He shook his head and she noticed him finally relaxing and sitting more comfortably in his chair âwe have those review as well and they are always stressful for the team and I am aware how much of my time, preparing drills takes me. I am offering you to concentrate on your mission ahead for now and then catch up in three weeks.â
Was he actually being nice to her?
âI will be fine captain, but thank you for the offer. I appreciate it.â
âIf you change your mind, my offer will still be on the table.â
âSo,â she said quite abruptly changing the subject. If he even thought she needed his help because she was a woman he was in for a tough ride.
Aelin grabbed a folder with her plan. She had spent the entire previous day working on it. âThese are the copies for you.â And she passed him a pile of papers âthey are the ideas and changes I would like to suggest. I believe that is the part you will have to discuss with your CO. the biggest and probably most time consuming change is the extra door. All the other suggestions are repairs and perhaps replacements of old parts. I would like to explain again that these changes are not up for discussion. They need to happen.â
Captain Whitethorn nodded âI have discussed the matter with my CO after our meeting and he understands that and agrees. He promised me that he will fight until the last ditch if they start blocking him with budget bullshit, his exact words.â
âPlease tell Air Commodore Salvaterre that I appreciate his cooperation. It goes in the interest of every single person who works at the base. Him included.â
âThis pile here is a draft of possible training sessions for both your squadron and the ground crew. I want basic fire prevention training, fire extinguisher training, reviews of fire drills. I would like to do some training, especially with the ground crew on fuels handling, fuel storing and clearing spillages. Your squadron will be welcome as well. I think it will benefit everyone.â She flipped through her notes âI would like to nominate a couple of people as Fire champions or any other name we can come up with. Their role would be to perform monthly deep inspections and weekly spot checks. The idea is that by doing this, you are always on the ball with any problems. Of course we will provide training on how to do all this.â She kept explaining and the man in front of her listened to her with great interest, never interrupting her.Â
âNeedless to say that fire prevention is everyoneâs job. See it, report it. And if you can, fix it.â She jotted down a few things âof course all of this depends on our rosters. I donât know how it works for you guys but we work in shift patterns.â
âMy squadron and I, we work Monday to Friday when we are ground-side. Ground staff such as engineers for example, they tend to follow shift patterns as well. I can talk to the supervisors for the mechanics and engineering team and see if I can get a roster from them. They are aware of the fact that extra training is on its way.â
âPlease do. I have a feeling that will be the biggest job.â
âDo you have any questions for me so far?â
âWhich venue will we use?â
Aelin tapped her pen on the table âI was thinking here if itâs okay with you. We have the equipment, also we donât have maximum security checks.â
âSpeaking of securityâŚâ he extracted something from his pocket â`I have your badge.â
Aelin took the badge he offered in surprise.
âI imagine we will be working together quite a lot and you will need to visit the base as well on a regular basis. You have now the badge with consultant clearance. Itâs not a lot, but it will grant you access to all the are you will need. And no more forms to fill.â
âThank you, captain,â she was speechless âThank you for trusting me.â
She smiled fondly at him and Rowan realised heâd do literally anything to see that smile. It was intoxicating.
They worked for a few hours and Aelin realised it was not as bad as she had feared. The captain had been very keen to listen to her plans and making suggestions according to his knowledge of the base and his team. He had also looked a bit less uncomfortable and more willing to have a full conversation instead of monosyllables. At least it was progress and since it looked like they were going to work together for a while it was a good thing.Â
When her stomach grumbled loudly she coughed embarrassed to try and cover it but the very faint hint of a grin on the captainâs lips told her that he had head her.
âWe can stop for lunch, captain.â
Aelin almost blushed âI guess so. I think I have a black hole forming in my stomach. Those drills always leave me famished.â She stood âthere is a lovely diner very nearby. Can I interest you in lunch? Itâs on me. But no shop talk.â She was ready for a refusal but the captain stood and nodded.
âIâd like lunch.â
When they left the office they met Elide and Lysandra carrying boxes full of supplies to stock the ambulance. As soon as Rowan noticed he jumped forward and offered to help Elide.
âLet me carry them. They are quite bulky.â
âThank you,â said the woman flashing a smile to Aelin then showed the captain the direction to the ambulance.
âWhere do I place it?â He asked once they were arrived. Elide opened the back door of the vehicle âjust here. Lys and I will sort through everything. Thank for the help.â
Lysandra dropped all her stuff and turned to the two captains.
âThese are Lysandra and Elide, they are our two resident EMTs.â
âLadies, this is captain Whitethorn.â
Lysandra mouthed hot to Aelin and the woman rolled her eyes.Â
âThe captain and I were going for lunch. Could you please tell Aedion to man the fort for me while I am away? I am just going to Emrys and I have a radio with me if anything happens.â
The woman nodded âI know the drill. Go, enjoy lunch.â
The two captains left âwe are walking. The place is just down the road. We are all regulars there.â
Five minutes later they reached the small diner and Rowan thought the place looked cosy and felt like the good old fashioned family run restaurant.
âEmrys and his husband Malakai have been running this place since forever. Itâs an institution in the neighbourhood.â
âAelin, my girl.â A very smiling Emrys walked from behind the counter and went to hug the woman âAre you keeping well?â
âOf course.â
âTwo today?â He asked looking at the Aelinâs companion.
âYes please. Can we sit anywhere?â
âGo ahead.â He gestured pointing at the tables.
âQuiet today?â
âNot at all. You just missed the rush. Until twenty minutes ago we were full. Malkai is delivering an order to the police station.â
Aelin walked to the table near the window and invited Rowan to join her.
âHereâs the menu for your friend. Let me know when you are ready to order.â
Rowan took the menu, opened it and lowered his head to start reading it.
Aelin studied him for a moment while he was distracted. Stared at his hands and noticed the hint of a tattoo sneaking from underneath the uniform. Interesting, she would have never pinned the man as someone who would have a tattoo. A smile tugged at her lips. A part of her wanted quite badly to get to know him a bit more. âYour hair,â she asked âhas it always been silver or it became like that with age?â Then she stopped embarrassed âI mean I am not saying that you look old. I just meant as if it got like that as you grew up.â
He lifted his head from the menu and his piercing green eyes settled on her âI was born like this. Apparently it runs in my family.â
âI am sorry, I didnât mean to pry. I was just curious.â
He gave her a half a smile. It did not linger. It was quick and for a second she thought she had imagined it âI am used to it.â He tapped on the plastic menu âyou havenât decided yet?â
âOh no, I donât need a menu. I know it by heart and I know what I want.â
Emrys came back and both placed their orders and Aelin enjoyed the shocked expression on the captain.
âYou canât possibly eat all that stuff.â
âWatch me.â
The silence grew uncomfortable again. It looked as if he was chatty only when it came to work.
âWhy did you join the airforce?â
For a moment he looked stunned at her question âI was eighteen and fresh out of high school. Happy I was done studying. My parents wanted me to go to uni, but the idea of spending four more years on books was not for me.â He explained and noticed she had he hands folded under her chin âOne day I met Lorcan. We knew each other from before already, being both from Wendlyn and all. It was nice to see a friendly face in a new place. Anyway, he told me he had moved here to Terrasen with the TAF. He told me they were recruiting and I went to the base during an open day. The day after I had signed up and a month later I was starting pilot academy.â
âWhere in Wendlyn?â
âDoranelle.â
âI was there once. On holiday withâŚâ no, not time yet âwith a friend. We loved it very much.â
He nodded âItâs a nice place, but I must admit that after so many years I feel like an adopted citizen of Terrasen. Orynth is quite a gorgeous place.â
Emrys came with their food and Rowan noticed how skilfully placed all the plates on the table. As if he was used to have all those orders from her.
âYou canât be serious and actually eat all this food.â
Aelin tackled her first plate âwatch the pro at work, captain.â She gave him a smile and Rowan shook his head and tackled his food.
âWhy firefighter?â
He noticed her still for a second and the happiness wash away from her face in an instant. Fuck. Wrong question already.
âI was eight.â She said playing with her food for a moment âI was out playing with some of my friends. I was on my way home when I saw two massive fire trucks in front of my house and my home on fire.â She placed the fork on the plate âI ran toward the house but this fireman stopped me. I was crying and calling for my parents. He hugged me, he told me they were working to try and save my parents. I remember trashing in his arms to get free but he held me tight.â She took a bit to keep herself busy while telling the story âhe took me to the back of the engine and showed me some of the tools and explained to me how the engine worked. He distracted me while his colleagues worked to stop the fire and save my parents.â She finally met his gaze âit took them almost two hours to kill the fire. After that there was nothing left of the house and of my life. My parents had been found dead in the house. The gas boiler has suffered a fault and basically exploded. They stood no chance.â
âAelin I amâŚâ his hand moved slowly closer to hers and brushed it gently âI am so sorry.â
âWhen I grew up I decided I wanted to be like the firemen who attended my fire. I wanted to rush into a house on fire and try to save some personâs parents of spouse and help them avoid the loss I suffered. I wanted to be like the man who stood with me and distracted me.â
Her finger lifted a little and met his almost in acknowledgement âAedionâs family took me in. As soon as I finished high school I was like you. I had no interest in uni. So I signed up for the fire academy.â
âSorry for ruining lunch.â
She shook her head and flicked his finger playfully. That had been the first contact between them. He had always kept his distance and that little flicker of affection made he heart flutter. The man was a puzzle. He could go from stone cold bastard to this in a small amount of time.
Aelin finished her food and noticed the captain staring at her with curiosity.
âI cannot believe it.â
âTold you,â she smiled at him with a smug expression âand I am even going to get cake.â
âNo you are not.â
In defiance she stood and went to the counter and ordered chocolate hazelnut cake from Emrys. She came back and sat down again and ate the whole slice.
âRemind me to apply for a mortgage if I ever take you out for dinner.â At those words Rowan froze. He did not mean to do say that. It was supposed to be a joke but he should have learned by now that he was bad at making jokes.
âIâll keep that in mind, Iceman.â
His head shoot up and looked at her. She had used his callsign. Something that only his squadron members would ever use. They all had one. It was a tradition. But it also meant something. It was always the other pilots in the team who choose the callsign. Never the pilot himself. It was a rite of passage that welcome you in the squadron. In a family. He got his one because of his hair. Everyone thought it was because he was cool and calm under pressure but no. When he was still one of the FNG he went through his naming ceremony like all the others FNG and they had decided he was going to be iceman because with his hair he reminded them of a creature from the snowy glaciers of the Staghorn mountains, hence iceman. Hearing her calling him like that made his heart skip a beat.
âWe donât have call signs. We got nicknames but nothing official like you guys.â She polished the plate from the chocolate left from the cake âthe guys usually call me Captain or Cap. Aedion is the worst. Because he is my cousin he takes the liberty to call me brat or menace. I should really write him up for insubordination.â
She tapped his hand âcome on grampa, letâs get back to work.â And stood. Rowan had wanted to grab that hand and hold it for a moment. It felt as if a small shift had happened in their weird work relationship.
Aelin paid for the meal as promised and they walked back to the station âare you sure you will be able to concentrate with all that food in you?â
On the way back Aelin looked up at the sky and noticed a few flakes that had started to follow. âLooks like itâs going to snow.â
She turned her head and caught Rowan sniffing the air, the eyes closed and a relaxed expression. The hard lines of his face had disappeared and the faint smile on his lips changed him completely. Yes, the man was hot but there was more to it. The very rare times that his face softened his eyes lit up as well turning a deeper green and made him stunning. She had a feeling those moments were rare and was glad that she had caught at least a couple. Like right now, his body relaxed enjoying the first flakes of snow. That was a precious insight in the man at her side.
âYou like winter?â She broke the magic.
His eyes snapped open and his face turned hard again as if he hated being caught enjoying something.
âI do.â He said softly âI love the snow and winters in Terrasen are incredible.
Aelin smiled. His scent. His scent reminded her of Terrasen. Pine and snow. She had smelled it the other day while she was inside his plane and he was quite close to her. He smelled like winter and realised for a second that the nickname Iceman was perfect as well for that reason and not just because he could be a cold hearted bastard. They got back to the station and she found it quiet apart from Brullo and Luca near the fire engine. Apparently the man was explaining the youngster some of the routine checks they performed. He was their resident engineer and mechanic so he was the best one for that type of training.
âNice lunch, Cap? Did you eat all the food at Emrys?â
âThe vegetables are still there. They are safe.â Aelin turned when noticed that the joke came from Rowan.
Brullo and Luca burst out laughing âoh he is good.â Added the older man.
âMy eating habits are the joke of the station.â
âCap, they are insane.â Added Luca.
Aelin turned to Rowan and he lifted and eyebrow as if to say I agree with them.
She turned again on her colleagues âone more joke from the two of you and Iâll have you scrub the station from top to bottom with a toothbrush.â Then she turned on her feet and walked away to her office.Â
Rowan tapped his hat in salute to the two men and followed her. He found her in the kitchen making coffee âDo you drink coffee?â
âI donât think I could function without it.â
âGood. We basically drink it by the litre. It keeps you alive on a night shifts.â
She made some coffee and offered him a mug âmilk, sugar?â
âBlack, thank you.â
He watched her as she dropped two spoonfuls of sugar in it âAll this sugar is not good for you.â
âShhh you heathen.â
He rolled his eyes and took a sip of his coffee âThank you for lunch by the way.â
âMy treat, for working with me.â She apologised, while leaning against the counter and drinking her coffee.
âYou are not as bad as I thought. I agree with Aedion, you are a brat and a menace but I can work with that.â Bad idea. Rowan noticed anger flash in her eyes.
âI am not having you calling me that.â She slammed the cup on the counter âyou barely know me and I have been professional, sure if cracking a joke or two makes me a brat itâs your problem you need sense of humour. I have been busting my ass to fix the shit that went down in your station.â She took a step toward him and Rowan braced himself âI know how I run my station. I am aware of every single problem or fault that happens here. Your fucking hangar went down in a blaze of glory and you had no idea of the shitstorm about to happen.â She was now a few mere centimetres from his face and a foolish part of him wanted to push her against the counter and kiss her senseless. She was mad at him and all he thought was how her lips would feel. What was wrong with him?
âDonât ever call me that again with that smug face of your because I have no problems removing that smirk with a punch.â
Rowan kept staring at her in silence, not risking saying a word while she was that mad at him. Damn the woman had fire in her. And it did not matter he was getting a well deserved lashing down from her, he could not stop thinking that she was beautiful. Not just physically, she was fierce, brave and passionate and he was irremediably drawn to her.
Which it was totally crazy since they had met the day before.
âNow get the fuck out of my station. We are done for today.â And she stepped back.
âCaptain, I did not mean to offend you.â
âI said out.â She repeated through gritted teeth âI have your contact. I will let you know when I am in the mood to meet you again.â She grabbed her coffee and walked away from him.
Rowan stood still and stared at the spot where she had been. He ran a hand through his hair and cursed himself for his stupidity. They had finally set aside the bad start they had, and messed up everything again.
He picked up his cap on the counter and then realised he had left all the documents in her office. He was about to walk to her but then changed his mind bad idea. So he just left the station, got back to his car and drove back to the base.
Aelin was furious. Why did he have to go and ruin everything with his bloody mouth of his?
That beautiful mouth of his.
She paced the office for ten minutes then she left, went to changing room and changed into her training gear. Some exercise will do her good to clear her head.
Aedion found her twenty minutes later âhere you are,â he shouted as she ran back and forth in the yard with a dummy on her shoulders.
âAelin!â He shouted when she did not stop. When she ignored him again he went in front of her and stopped her âAelin.â
âWhat?â She growled dropping the dummy on the ground with a loud thump. She was breathless.
âI thought you were with the captain.â
She ignored him and grabbed the dummy again but Aedion stopped her and grabbed her hand âdid something happened?â
âYes, he happened. He is an arsehole and I donât know why I am bothering to help him.â
âBecause itâs your job.â
âWell, he can go and ask west station for all I care.â
Aedion shook his head âthey are in our territory.â
Aelin ran a hand through her hair.
âDid he do something to you? Because if he did I am very good at hand to hand combat. Iâll destroy his stiff arse.â
Aelin chuckled. Aedion had always been very protective with her.
âHe called me a brat and a menace. He said that I am not as bad as he thought and that he agrees with you for my nicknames.â
Aedion laughed âthatâs why you are mad at him? Ace, I love you but you can be both.â
She sat down on the dummy âI know. But if you say it it doesnât bother me. We grew up together. You know me better than anyone. He insteadâŚâ she punched the dummyâs face âhe had this smug face and he used this tone like a condescending prick.â
She groaned âyou can be a brat and a menace but I can work with it,â she repeated in a mocking tone âI am the one doing him a favour to help him. Idiot.â
âYou just want to find an excuse to hate him and push him away from you.â He sat down on the dummy beside her âAce, could it be that you like him but you are still too scared to allow another man in your life?â
âNo. I have known the guy for two days. And no, I do not like him.â She protested.
âWould it be that bad?â
Aelin stood and faced him âI am not interested in getting any closer to him than what works dictates. Lie. Lie. Lie. Lie.
âYou are overreacting and you are behaving like a brat and proving him right.â
She pushed him off the dummy âyou are on truck duty for the whole week.â Aelin grabbed the dummy and went back to her training.
Rowan finally made it back to the base and went straight to his office but Lorcan intercepted him.
âYou are back early. I thought you were going to be at the station all afternoon.â
Rowan ignored his CO and plopped on his chair and closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
âThat bad, eh?â Joked Lorcan at the manâs reaction.
âI opened my damn mouth. Thatâs what I did.â
Lorcan sat on the chair on the opposite side of the desk âWhat did you do? I thought you were the guy who counted till ten before opening his mouth. Thatâs why I gave you this assignment. I need this to go smoothly and fix all the shit that the old CO messed up. If I wanted to piss off the TFDâs captain I would have sent Moonbeam.â
Rowan snorted âprobably would have been better. Far more charming than this cranky old bastard.â
âI have seen the woman. Fenrys would end up fucking everything. Literally.â
Lorcan sat back relaxed âI am coming to the station tomorrow and I will talk to her and bring her back into our good books.â
âYou?â Rowan scoffed âif there is someone who has a worse temper than me is you, Lorcan.â
âIâll be my charming self.â The man joked.
âThe gods save us all.â Rowan joked standing and pacing the office âtrying to scare her will not work either.â
âI noticed that. I wish some of our men would have that level of balls. Quite amazing for a woman.â Rowanâs head snapped at his COâs words.
âDonât even dare say anything like that in her face or you are a dead man.â
He and Lorcan would go along on most of the days but on some concepts, Lorcan still followed the good old fashioned ideas that for example females were not suited for the military, a topic they had many fights on. Rowan had tried to open up the ranks to a few more females in the squadron but Lorcan had rejected the idea every single time.
âYou know how I feel about those things.â
âYes, our very progressive man. Equality and all.â
âYou can be such an arsehole.â Rowan stopped at the window âeven the Navy is accepting women. Their recruitment for female officers is up by 40%. We are still to celebrate when we will have our first female officer.â
Lorcan growled âwell, then move to the Navy.â He stood annoyed âflying a jet is not like service on an aircraft carrier!â
Rowan turned furious âyou are not seriously telling me that you donât believe a woman could fly a jet.â He slammed his fist on the table âI have seen Aelin in action and during drills. I have seen her jump into a building on fire without any second thought to save one of our men. I have seen her drag a dummy twice her size off a burning building while wearing the fire suit and an oxygen tank on her shoulder. She could probably do a vertical, pull 9G and then get off the plane and have a dance in our face. She is definitely not the fragile thing you think she is just because she is a woman.â
âWhat is your point?â
âStop being a misogynist prick.â
Rowan phone went off and Lorcan moved away âif you are coming tomorrow, you leave that attitude behind.â Lorcan left and Rowan took the call. Once he was done he sat back down on his chair and looked outside noticing the snow falling and a gentle smile tugged his lips at the memory of the moment they had shared at the restaurant. He had to apologise. And quickly.

Black ribbon and silver bows
The fifth of may meant that there were exactly 2 months until Draco turned 17. Draco had gone above and beyond for your birthday, spoiling you with 17 individually wrapped gifts that he sent you on a wild goose chase around the school to find. You wanted to make him equally as special as he made you feel, but what did you get the boy who could get anything he wanted?
You thought about getting him a pet, but you didnât think his mother would appreciate a cat roaming around the halls of the Malfoy Manor. Then you thought about getting him a broom, but as usual, Draco already had the best of the best. Your mind turned to clothes, but the man only wore black shirts with tailor-made trousers.Â
âStill thinking about what to get Draco?â Blaiseâs voice asked, pulling you from your thoughts.
âUgh yes, anything I think of, he already hasâ
âYouâre fault for choosing rich, should have dated a Weasley, theyâd be over the moon with an unworn robeâÂ
You smacked Blaiseâs arm âDonât be so rude, Blaise. Just because you donât like them doesn't mean you can be a prickâ
âWhy donât you make him something? Iâm sure the elves would let you sneak into the kitchen to cook, you could draw something, write him a poemâ
If you were a cat, your ears would have pricked at hearing the word âdrawâ, Draco was never a fan of the decorations in his room, maybe you could paint him a painting that he could hang up on his wall.
âYou might have just saved Dracoâs birthdayâ
The increase of chatter across the library hinted that your free period was over and it was now time for lunch. You and Blaise collected your things and returned the books to the returns trolley before making your way to the great hall. You bumped into Draco, Pansy and Daphne on your way there. The five of you made your way to the Slytherin table to see Crabbe and Goyle already tucking in.Â
âWhy am I not surprised that you two gluttons are the first on the table?â Blaise asked, throwing his school bag down and taking a seat.Â
The rest of your group sat down as well, the elves had made different variations of chicken wraps for lunch today. You picked up a grilled chicken wrap and began eating it, famished after your hour of revision during your free period. You had just finished the first one when Draco said your name.
âYouâve got sauce on your mouth, darlingâ
You stuck your tongue out trying to lick it off but you kept missing.Â
âHold still a secâ Draco instructed. He used his thumb to wipe the spot of sauce from your mouth, licking it off his thumb once he was done.Â
âAh my saviour!â you fake swooned.Â
He laughed and continued to eat his lunch. You wolfed another half of a wrap before feeling full.Â
âAre we still revising for charms after dinner?â Daphne asked, looking up from her homework.Â
âIâm on it, but the boys have quidditch practise until 7, so theyâll have to join in laterâ You replied, snapping the lid of your lip balm back on
âActually, practice is cancelled, so Blaise and Iâll be thereâ Draco added, downing the rest of his pumpkin juice.
âY/N, you alright?âÂ
Your head whipped around to see Neville Longbottom standing behind you.
âAre you lo-â Draco began to sneer
You pinched the outside of his thigh making him grit his teeth instead of finishing his sentence. âNeville, hiâ
âI just wanted to return your charms notes, they were dead useful, thanks,â He said with a light blush, holding your pile of notes out.
âOh, thank you. Iâm so glad you found them helpfulâ You took the notes from him with a smile.Â
âHave a nice rest of the afternoon,â
âYou too Neville,â
He returned to his friends and your friends turned onto you.
âWhy are you so nice to him?â Blaise demanded.
âOh merlin, when are you guys going to get over this rivalry, he needed help, so I helped him.â
âHeâs also Longbottomâ
You rolled your eyes. âAnyways, does anyone want to let me copy the last two questions for the dada homework?â
Daphne slid her roll of parchment over to you and you quickly scribbled the answers. Just as you had screwed on the cap for your ink lid, the bell for your next lesson rang. Nowadays your lessons were less structured, it was two months before exam season which meant the teachers pushed to revise topics rather than introducing new ones. Some teachers preferred to let you get on in groups doing your own thing, others had a strict revision lesson planned. But one thing was for certain exams had definitely taken over your life.
After your charms revision session with your friends, you and Draco found yourselves walking up to the astronomy tower. The sun was beginning to set as you nestled yourself into his lap.
âDonât you think itâs mad that in a couple of years we wonât be able to do this anymore?â You asked, tightening his arms around you.
âWe can watch the sunset from anywhere loveâ
âHa ha you know what I mean idiotâ
âIâm ready to leave this placeâ
âSorry Mr âI should have been in Durmstrangââ
âI should have, my father agreed more with their curriculumâ
âMaybe cause his old death eater buddy was running itâ
âHeâs your father's old death eater buddy tooâ
âMy father never thought about sending me to Durmstrangâ
âThatâs because itâs a boys-only school, loveâ
âI donât like youâ
âThatâs because you love me,â
âSpeaking of love, do you remember the first moment you realised you loved me?â
He paused âAs a matter of fact I doâ
âDo tell, Mr Malfoyâ
âWe were at that party at the Parkinsonâs in our 3rd year. You had a silver dress on. Your mum forced you into these heels and you hated them. You wobbled over to me and clung to my arm the whole night. But as soon as we were shooed away from the adults, you took them off and practically shoved them into my hands and started walking around barefoot. Pansyâs grandmother came out of the parlour and saw you without your shoes on and went berserk, she called you a disgrace, all our mothers came out to see what was going on and Iâm pretty sure your mum looked like she was going to kill youâ
âI remember that! Then I transfigured her ostrich feather boa into a snake around her neck!â
âShe nearly pissed her pantsâ He laughed, causing you to smile.
âSo is that your favourite memory of us?â
âNo, my favourite memory takes place in our 4th year at the Yule ball. I didnât want to dance in front of all those idiots but you pulled me up there anyway. But as soon as you held my hand it was like they all disappeared and it was just me and you. I spun you out and when you spun back into my arms, I dipped you and you looked so beautiful. But that is fighting for the top spot from the time you sucked me off in the restricted section, and the time you flooâed into my room last summer at 2 am and I absolutely ruined youâ
âOkay okay I get the picture your favourite memories are when we have sexâ
âNot all of them, just some, whatâs yours?â
â5th year, Christmas break, your parentsâ Christmas party, you hid my promise ring inside my dessertâ you held your hand up letting your ring sparkle in the candlelight, it was simple, a small princess cut emerald on a gold band, but it was oh so precious âYou kept staring at me and I was so confused, I wasnât even looking at what I was eating until you jerked my hand back and told me to look in the spoon and there it was. You cleaned it off and slid it on my finger right in front of everyone. Or maybe it was the time you made me sit on your face when we snuck into a room at the leaky cauldronâ
Draco laughed and lifted your hand up and played with the ring. âAfter we finish Hogwarts, Iâm gonna replace this ring with a diamond oneâ
âYou are?âÂ
âWhy do you sound so surprised, I told you already I was going to change your last name to mine, even your parents knowâ
âI know but I didnât know you wanted to do this so early"
âOf course I do, why wouldnât I?â
âYou are so whippedâ
Draco shoved you off him playfully.
âBut itâs okay because Iâm equally as whippedâ you replied sitting back in his lap.
âYouâd better be, otherwise Iâd-â
âYouâd what? Tell your father?â
âRight, thatâs itâ His fingers found your sides as he began tickling you. By the time he felt as though he tortured you enough, you were both breathless.Â
âI love you," He said, smoothing your shirt down.
âI love you moreâ
âWhoâs up here?â Filchâs voice grumbled.Â
You and Draco grinned at each other as you quickly threw your robes on and lifted the hoods, running straight past Filch and into the Slytherin common room.Â
You had now learnt what Dracoâs favourite memory of you was. All that was left was actually getting around to paint it. If you werenât in a lesson, you were revising, usually most of the time with Draco. Even on weekends, you found yourself in in the library completing practise exam papers and testing yourself on flashcards. And any time you werenât working, you and Draco used as an opportunity to spend time with one another without being bogged down with work. Youâd already decided that the room of requirement would be the perfect place to start painting, but the issue was figuring out how youâd be able to sneak there and back without arousing suspicion.Â
After much deliberation, you decided that your best option for sneaking out was on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Every Tuesday after dinner, Draco and Blaise would go out to the quidditch pitch to blow off some steam, by the time he had finished and showered, you were almost always already in bed. On Wednesday, you decided youâd tell Draco a little white lie and say that Flitwick had asked you to tutor a struggling 5th year in Charms, it would give you a few hours to yourself to get ahead with painting.Â
The upcoming Tuesday your plan was in action, you made Daphne swear she wouldnât tell Draco where you were and you made your way to the room of requirement. It was honestly a Godsend. You stepped into a room full of different sized canvasses, there were tubes of oil paint and palettes of watercolours and squeezy bottles of acrylic. A table was full of paintbrushes of different sizes and shapes and there were an easel and chair right in the middle of the room.Â
You picked out a large rectangular canvas and placed it landscape on the easel and got to sketching the outline of your painting. If all went to plan, it would be a loop of Dracoâs favourite memory of the two of you at the ball, if it didnât well, then it would be a still image and if everything went south, youâd have to somehow find a way to get some lingerie to distract him from your lack of presents.Â
Painting the canvas was going to be the hard part, sketching the outline, however, was proving to be a huge nightmare already, you had drawn and redrawn Dracoâs face about a hundred times, not being able to get it exactly right. You were about to kick a hole in your canvas when a small a5 picture caught your eye, stuck under the foot of the easel. You picked it up to see a photograph of the exact moment you were trying to recreate. This was why you loved this room, taking a deep breath, you redrew Dracoâs face finally getting it as you liked it. By the time you had finished the full outline, it was almost two am, you knew you were going to struggle to wake up in the morning, but that was something for future you to deal with, present you had to find a way to sneak out of the room and back to your dormitory without detection.Â
In order to make as little noise as possible, you took your shoes off and ran across the castle in just your socks, you were only a few steps away from the entrance to the common room before Mrs Norris came around the corner. She meowed loudly as you whisper-shouted the password, the corridor revealing itself. You ran down it and straight up the stairs into your dormitory. You tried to get into bed as quietly as possible before falling asleep.Â
In hindsight, staying up sketching until 2 am was a horrible idea. It was only 1 in the afternoon and you were struggling to stay awake.Â
âI donât get why you donât just pay someone to paint it for you,â Daphne asked, scrunching a piece of paper into a ball and throwing it in the bin beside you.
âBecause then there's no sentimental value behind itâ You replied, massaging your temples.
âWhat time did you fall asleep anyway?â
âBy the time I drowned out Pansyâs snoring it was 3, I was just lucky I had a free period first so I ended up getting an hours extra sleepâ
âMerlin, remind me to never fall in loveâ
You laughed before rubbing your eyes and returning to your work.Â
It took you four weeks of staying up till 2 am to finish Dracoâs painting. You had spent hours mixing the right shades of paint, at one point you ended up getting rid of the paint on the whole canvas and starting again but exactly three weeks before Dracoâs birthday, you had mastered the spell to make your painted figures move and your masterpiece was complete. Your only worry was that Narcissa Malfoy would hate it and would stop her son from hanging it in his bedroom.Â
In order to get the huge canvas from the room of requirement back to your dormitory, you had to ask Neville to ask Harry if you could borrow his invisibility cloak. If Draco had found out that you got Harryâs help you were 90% sure heâd be the one kicking a hole in your canvas. For now, the canvas was safely tucked under your bed.Â
The next morning, you stuffed Harryâs cloak in your bag and made your way down to meet him. You had agreed the previous evening that youâd meet outside Moaning Myrtleâs bathroom before breakfast to make the exchange. As planned, he was stood with Neville right outside the entrance to the toilet. You pulled the cloak out and handed it back to Harry.Â
âThank you, I know you and Draco donât like each other, but it means a lot that you'd go out on a limb to help me.â
âWhile I question your choice in men, Y/L/N, youâve helped Neville out on more than one occasion and any friend of Nevilleâs is a friend of mine.â
You smiled at Harry, âIâm gonna head to breakfast before Draco gets suspicious, see you boys, laterâ
They waved goodbye as you made your way back to breakfast, stopping in the normal girl's toilet to sort your shirt out which you found you were wearing inside out. Your group of friends were already sat down eating, all but Draco.
âWhere is he?â You asked.
âCouple third years said they had to tell him something in private, oh wait, speak of the devilâÂ
You turned and he did not look happy. His jaw was clenched and he was walking oddly fast, he came to you and gripped you firmly by the arm. âCan I speak to you, outside, Y/Nâ
You looked at him confused but followed him out. As soon as you were out of earshot from the hall he turned around to face you, he looked pissed, he kept walking forward until you were pinned between him and the wall.Â
âYou want to tell me why some friends in 3rd year saw you giving Potter his invisibility cloak back?â
âWhat?â
âDonât play dumb with me, darling, we both know youâre not. âit looked like she was holding something but there wasn't anything in her handâ. Why did you have his cloakâ
âI was planning on recreating that memory of yours in the restricted section for your birthday, I asked Neville if I could borrow Harryâs cloak to get us there and back but then I remembered you wouldnât have come if we were using his cloak so I gave it backâ You lied smoothlyÂ
He swallowed and nodded, not moving back. You pushed him off and scoffed.Â
âIs this what youâre doing now? Sending third years to follow me?â
âYou of all people should know I have eyes and ears everywhere.â
âThose eyes and ears shouldn't be snooping on your girlfriendâ
âThey wouldnât have to if you werenât lying to me about where you were for the past month.â
âWhat are you talking about?â
âHelping a 5th year with Charms as per the request of Flitwick? Well not according to the professor himselfâ
âDra-â
He laughed, âCanât even cover up your lies properly. Why don't I give you a few hours to come up with a cover story, I canât bear the sight of you right nowâ Draco turned and walked away, ignoring you as you called out for him.Â
He acted as though you didnât exist for all of your lessons, he didn't sit next to you, he didn't speak to you, he barely looked at you. You chose to have dinner alone in your room that night. It had occurred to you during your second period that Draco thought you were cheating on him with Harry. It made sense, you were sneaking around and you were seen giving Harryâs cloak back as if to say that you two had been meeting up in secret under it. But it also made absolutely no sense either, you and Draco had been together since the beginning of your 3rd year. Your father was a death eater for Peteâs sake, it didnât take a genius to realise youâd be disowned if you brought home Harry fucking Potter.Â
You were partway through your transfiguration homework when Daphne came bounding up into the dormitory.
âRight, what is going on with you and Draco?â She asked, throwing her bag on the floor and collapsing on her bed.
âNothing,â You lied.
âSee that is absolute bullshit because he has been a moody prick all day and you skipped dinner, so come out with it, spillâ
You sighed and explained everything.Â
âWhy donât you just tell him the truth then?â
âBecause if I do, itâll ruin the surpriseâ
âAnd if you donât itâll end your relationship, my mother is over the moon at the fact that Iâll be a bridesmaid at a Malfoy wedding, you donât want to crush her dreams do you?â
âYouâre right, do you know where he is?â
âHe went straight into his dormitoryâ
You nodded and made your way there. He was joined by his friends.
âRest of you out, thanks,â You said, walking in and standing in the middle of the room.Â
Blaise looked at Draco and he nodded, prompting him, Theodore and Goyle to leave. He refused to look at you. You took a seat at the end of his bed and began to explain.
âIâm well aware you think Iâm cheating on you with Potter, but thatâs really the complete opposite of whatâs happening. The truth is, for the past few weeks, Iâve been arranging your birthday present. I finished it last night and I asked for Harryâs cloak so I could bring it back to my dormitory without revealing the surprise. Thatâs where Iâve been sneaking off to. Not to go snog Potter under his invisibility cloakâ
âOhâ
âBet you feel really fucking stupid now donât you,â You scoffed
âIâm sorry, darling,â
âDo you not think? Could you imagine my parentsâ reaction if I brought home Potter? Theyâd disown me faster than you came the first time we-â
He grabbed you into a hug before you could finish your sentence.
âI am truly sorry, princess, for jumping to conclusions and for ruining my surprise.â
âWell, you havenât totally ruined it, you donât know what it is yet.â
âCan we come back in yet, I need to get out of this fucking uniformâ Theodore shouted from the bottom of the stairs.
Draco shouted back a yeah and his friends returned.Â
âSee you twoâve kissed and made up, about time too, Dracoâs a right git when he's moodyâ
Draco threw a pair of balled-up socks at Blaiseâs head before you got up off the bed.
âIâll meet you in the common room once Iâve finished my homework,â You told him before pressing a soft kiss to his lips. He mumbled an okay before kissing you once more and you were on your way.Â
The next morning, at breakfast, you noticed your fatherâs owl descend onto the table in front of you. You took the letter expecting him to fly off and return home but he waited expectantly, clearly, he was told to wait until you replied. He hopped up onto your arms as you took him to the owlery to recuperate while you read your letter and replied.Â
Y/N,Â
Youâre hopefully aware that it is Dracoâs birthday in a few weeks, I hope that you have got him an adequate gift. You know how important your 17th birthday is and as I remember, Draco spoilt you with 17 gifts. Since you are a young lady, you're not expected to gift him anything as lavish as some of the presents he gave you, but tradition dictates that you should get him something worthy of a pureblood wizard, in particular jewels. Please reply as soon as possible, only so I know that you wonât embarrass your father and I (and in the case you do, I can send you an alternative). Your brothers and your father send their regards. We miss you.Â
Mother
You rolled your eyes at her need for keeping up appearances and quickly scribbled her back a reply. You wished you were at home to see her reaction to you gifting him a painting you painted yourself. Once your fatherâs owl had filled himself up with water and owl feed, you attached the letter to him and sent him on his way.Â
Later in the evening, your motherâs owl pecked at you through the library window. You went out into the corridor and took a letter and a box off of her. Once you had freed her of her cargo, she hooted and flew off. You opened the second letter and read.
Sweetheart, I know that you are an accomplished young artist, but a painting will simply not do, especially for his 17th birthday. However, since I am your mother and I know you best, I had a feeling I would need to help you in this department. I took the liberty of going into Bourgin and Burkeâs on the weekend and purchased a rare black diamond ring for Draco on your behalf. I think he will like it and I think you will too. I hope you are studying well for your exams,Â
Mother
You tried to rip open the wrapping on the box but it wouldn't move. The fold at the bottom lifted itself up a bit and ran across your finger, giving you a papercut. A thin line of blood collected on its edge and the wrapping dissolved leaving you with a red ring box, she was always partial to a bit of blood magic. You lifted the lid to see a thick silver band, it looked like it was either white gold or platinum, your mother thought sterling silver was too cheap, the oval cut diamond set atop a larger oval of platinum. It wasn't too plain but it also wasnât overly gaudy, just as Draco liked it. You returned to the library with your second gift, making a note to hide it under your bed with your painting.
The next few weeks went past in a blur of mock exams and constant revision. Your first exam wasnât until the 10th of June, giving you plenty of time to celebrate Dracoâs birthday properly. The night before his birthday, half of Slytherin house was gathered in the common room waiting for it to hit midnight. You asked the elves to bake a cake for him and smuggled it with some snacks to have a small party with your friends.Â
At 11.59 you pulled a tie out from behind you and held it up.
âGonna let me tie you up huh?â Draco asked with a smirk.Â
âNice try, Malfoy, but this is for youâ You replied getting up and tying it around his eyes.Â
âWhat are you doing, Y/L/N?âÂ
You pointed your wand at the wall causing birthday banners and streamers to hang. Blaise brought the cake in from the 1st year dormitory. The large grandfather clock donged deeply as it hit midnight, you pulled his blindfold down as the whole common room burst into a rendition of happy birthday. He laughed and put his arm around your waist pulling you into his side. Nott finished the song on a horrible high note as Draco blew his candles out.Â
âMake a wish, Dracoâ Pansy shouted.Â
âI donât need to, I've got everything I could wish for right next to me.â
You smiled up at him and gave him a kiss before addressing the crowd. âEat my friends,â You felt like Dumbledore as plates of food dotted themselves around the common room. The attention moved from Draco to the food as everyone got up and attacked.Â
âHappy birthday, my love,â You said wrapping your arms around his neck.
âThank you, princess, I wasnât expecting this at all.â
âOnly the best for my boyfriendâ
You spent the next few hours playing truth or dare with your housemates, it was cut short when Snape barged into the common room, the decorations were ripped off the wall and the music from the radio stopped.Â
âI am going to give you until the count of 10 to return to your dormitory, anyone I still see standing here will be spending every weekend for the rest of the year cleaning with filchâ
He began to count down from 10 as everyone scrambled to run into their dorms and get into bed.Â
You were so excited to surprise Draco with his presents that you skipped breakfast, instructing Daphne to tell him to meet you in the astronomy tower. You decided you were going to decorate your spot a little bit, you set up a soft blanket and some cupcakes and hung up the leftover banners and streamers from your midnight party in the common room. You had his gifts wrapped up with ribbon and some bows just to be extra, they sat in the centre of your blanket, the canvas taking up a large chunk of it. You had realised Draco would probably struggle to take the canvas back home, but that would be a problem he would have to deal with later.
âY/N?â His voice called out from the bottom of the stairs.Â
âUp here, loveâ You replied, your head popping up over the bannister.Â
He broke into a smile when he saw you and rushed up the stairs taking them two at a time. You sat on the edge of the blanket and waited for him.
âHappy 17th birthday, Dracoâ You exclaimed as he reached the top.Â
His smile got even wider as he pulled you up and into a tight hug.Â
âI am so in love with you, do you know that?â he mumbled into your neck.
âI hope you feel the same after you see your presents,â
âDarling, you know you didnât have to get me anything, youâre the best gift I could have ever receivedâ
âI didnât have to but I wanted to, here lookâÂ
His eyes fell onto the two wrapped gifts, he sat himself down and opened the top present.Â
âHow did you get your hands on this?â he pulled the ring out and examined it closely.
âRIght so backstory to this, my mum didnât believe that my original present was traditional enough to be a âwizardâs 17th birthday presentâ so she went out to Bourgin and Burke and got this, but I wouldnât have given it to you had I thought you wouldn't like it, so think of this as a gift from your in-laws.â
âMy fatherâll be jealous, he's been wanting a black diamond in his collection for ages nowâ He put the ring back in the box and was about to shut it.
âWait, let me put it on. you put my ring on, so Iâll put yours on, practise for the big dayâ
He smiled at you as you sat down next to him and pulled the ring back out of the box. He held his left hand out for you and you slid the ring onto his ring finger. Â
âYou know after this, they tend to kissâ He grinned.Â
âOh yes, of course, if weâre going to practise we should be thoroughâ You pulled his head down and his lips met yours for a passionate kiss.Â
He pulled back after a few moments with a grin.Â
âWe should keep practising, just to be on the safe sideâ
âEnough flirting, Malfoy you have another gift to openâ
He turned and picked up the canvas in his hands.
âIs this the one you were sneaking away for?â
You nodded and he began to tear off the wrapping. He got up and placed it against the wall and stood there looking at it, silently. He was silent for a while as he watched the loop of Draco spinning you out and then dipping you on your return with a kiss. Although he hadn't said anything, you got the feeling that he didn't particularly like this gift. He was probably thinking of a way to let you down easily.
âDo you not like it?â You asked quietly.
âWhat? No!â he turned around with a genuine smile. âI love it, darling, it's perfect. Honestly, it's beautiful.â
You physically relaxed and went to stand next to him. âYou said you didnât like the painting in your room above the fire so I thought Iâd give you something to change it with, Iâm just not sure if your mother would like it, since its not one of those classical masterpieces.â
âI donât care what my mother thinks, as soon as I get home, Iâm hanging this right up on my wall. I just never knew you could paint like thisâ
âMy mum made me start painting when I was three, I stopped lessons as soon as I started Hogwarts but I kept it up on the side as a hobby and, well, I thought Iâd immortalise your favourite memory of us.â
âYou never cease to amaze meâ He turned and pulled you into him âThank you,â
âDonât be silly itâs your birthday, stupidâ
âNot just for this, for everything. For putting up with everything, the jealousy, the anger, the-â
âHey, Iâm not putting up with anything, I love you, Draco, all of youâ
âMerlin, I canât wait to marry youâ His lips crashed into yours for a frenzied kiss, overwhelmed with emotion. âThis is by far the best birthday Iâve ever had, nothing will be able to top thisâ
And he wasnât lying. Whenever he was asked, by his kids, his grandkids even his great-grandkids, what his favourite birthday celebration was, his response was always the same, his 17th birthday.

Chapter Warnings: Cursing, Mentions of Sex, Cocky Bucky, Nervous Bucky, Bucky Bucky
A/N: I actually have ideas for this story, so Iâm cranking it out! I definitely wasnât expecting to post today, but here we are! This chapter has a lot of dialogue and some of Readerâs thoughts, but not much action, yet. Weâre kind of still getting in the roll of things, it still being the first week of college and all that. We do get to meet Bucky, though! Next chapter weâll meet mostly everyone else, and there will be more things happening other than classes and work. I kinda feel like Iâm rushing these first few chapters, so Iâm sorry about that, but itâs mostly introductions and setting up the story and Iâm the type of person who likes writing the climax and only the climax. So this is steady growth for me.
I do want to point out the series warnings, just in case! I donât want anyone feeling uncomfortable or being triggered while reading this so please take those seriously as it will happen later on in the story! Thank you!
Once again, this isnât betaâd so please excuse any mistakes! Thank you for reading and please enjoy!
Erased From the Stars Masterlist
cjsinkythoughtsâ Masterlist
You woke up in a much better mood on Tuesday, having gotten more sleep than the previous night, especially considering how tired you were when you got home past midnight from working at Shield. You crashed as soon as your head hit the pillow.
You took your time getting ready and eating breakfast, saying bye to Christine and the kids, leaving first that time since your Public Speaking class started before Kaylaâs preschool did.
Which you were late to.
Of course as soon as you let your guard down, thinking youâd be fine since your first day was fine, you werenât fine.Â
Fortunately, you were only a few minutes late and didnât miss anything, since today would be another day of going over rules and course requirements for the two new classes you had.
Public Speaking was the worst. Youâre older - and only - sister, Kimberly, convinced you to take the class after saying it was one of her favorites. Of course, you forgot that you and Kim were very different people. For starting at 9:05, it was too early of a class, especially when the whole point was, you know, public speaking. You hadnât done anything yet, but one glance at the plans your professor had for the semester and you were dreading it already.
Your next class was a US History lecture, which started fifteen minutes after Public Speaking. You were again late because you severely underestimated how far the buildings were and your professor let you out a bit later than you anticipated.
You practically threw all your stuff into your bag the moment he dismissed you and sprinted out.
Arriving, you tried slipping in as silently as possible, but the door slammed shut, rather loudly, making you cringe. You felt yourself heat up as several pairs of eyes snapped towards you, but luckily the professor, Coulson you remembered, was just gathering papers and hadnât started yet. Ignoring your peers - none of whom you knew and you werenât sure if that made it worse or not - you shuffled over to the nearest empty seat a few rows down and to the right. You were surprised and extremely grateful to find it was an aisle seat.
Pulling out your laptop, you huffed when it wouldnât turn on. You hadnât used it in your previous class, meaning it was dead before, but you couldâve sworn you plugged it in last night. Whatever. You were fine with pen and paper.
âAw shit.â You resisted the urge to smack your head on the table as you dug through your bag. Seriously?! You forgot to pack a pen?! That couldnât have been your only pen, right?!
This is why you were anxious. Next morning, you swore youâd get up early and triple check to make sure you had everything.
You quietly threw your bag to the ground and slumped in your seat, your arms crossed. That meant you couldnât even doodle! You had to sit there for over an hour and listen to this guy talk about another syllabus. Joy.
Suddenly, something hit you in the back of your head. You rubbed where it hit and looked down at your feet, eyebrows knitting together at the scrunched up ball of paper sitting there. âPsst.â Another hit to the head made you whip around, glaring at the culprit.
âWhat?â You hissed before faltering. Damn. Now that was one hell of a specimen.
Steel blue eyes crinkled at the corner as pink lips pulled up into an entertained grin, pearly whites on display. Sharp jawline covered with light scruff. Fluffy chestnut hair styled with the perfect amount of gel fell a little past his ears, with a single pesky strand falling in his eyes. The white shirt he was wearing was loose with a low collar, a leather jacket thrown over it. You could see the combat boots from underneath the table. He was a pretty boy, yeah, but you hung out with (*cough cough* dated) enough guys dressed like him in high school to know his game.
âNeed a pen?â He offered in a whisper, holding up the said object.
âUhmâŚyes?â
He smirked, leaning forwards in his chair, closer to you. âIâll let you have it on one condition.â You raised an eyebrow, giving him a pointed look. âJust a name, babygirl. Yours, specifically.â
You rolled your eyes, glancing around the room to see if you were disturbing anybody. Not seeing anyone paying attention to you two, you turned back to him. âY/N.â
âBucky.â He introduced himself, reaching over to shake your hand. You took it, a bit hesitant, blinking when you felt something fall into your palm once he pulled back. The pen.
âI, uh, thanks.â
He winked at you, leaning back in his chair, hands linked behind his head. âNo problem, doll.â
You turned back to the lecture, holding in your scoff at his pet name, hating the fact that it nearly made you smile. He was definitely a fuckboy and you told yourself before college that you wouldnât play around with them anymore.
So you tuned him out of your mind for the rest of the lecture and, thank God, you had to rush out of class once it ended because you had to work in half an hour, not even letting the blue eyed pretty boy say a word in your direction.
You worked for the rest of the day, Russoâs for lunch, a few hours break to look over school stuff and have dinner with your family, before Shield from 9 to 1. It was fine. Long, but nothing you werenât used to already. You really enjoyed both your jobs and you got lucky with your bosses.Â
Joe and Anthony were brothers who took over Russoâs for their parents. The pizzeria had been in their family for generations, and they gladly took on the tradition. They had kids of their own and dealt with their school, so they were very understanding - almost parental - to you.
Phillips had started Shield after retiring from the Army, wanting to settle down with a place to drink, smoke, and play poker with his buddies. He was stern, but that was to be expected. He always told you, âyou can take the man out of the Army, but you canât take the Army out of the man.â Despite him being strict, though, he was reasonable, and had taken a liken to you since the moment you stepped foot in the bar.
And not only did you like your jobs, the money wasnât too bad either.
But, despite that, you were still human, and having two back-to-back college classes and then working two jobs for over eight hours was draining.
You made sure everything was ready for the next day before you left for Shield, that way you could just get home, change, and sleep. Tuesday mightâve been a rough starting day, but youâd learn for Thursday, and Wednesdayâs morning was definitely better.
Peter even texted you his coffee order, telling you heâd probably be late. You chuckled to yourself when you got the text at breakfast. You totally called it.
In his defense, he really was running late, and you could tell just by looking at him. One shoe untied, hair messy like he just rolled out of bed, sweater haphazardly thrown on like it was an afterthought, which it probably was.
âYou,â he puffed, sinking into his chair and taking the coffee cup you held out. âAre my savior and Iâll love you until the end of time.â
You chuckled, shaking your head. âAnd you, my friend, are so much more chaotic than I thought. Whatâd you do? Stay up until three last night?â
He shrugged, shooting you an innocent smile while his cheeks turned red. âI got caught up binge watching Clone Wars.â
âOf course you did. Hereâs the notes you missed so far.â
He gave you an adoring smile. âDid I tell you I love you?â
âYeah, yeah. Sap. Hurry and copy them down so I donât miss anything.â
********************
It was when you were checking your things Wednesday night when you realized you had an extra pen. It took you a moment to remember the blue eyed pretty boy from Coulsonâs History lecture, but when you did you groaned.
Your dating record in high school was pretty bad. Not that you would really call it dating. But Whitney was right when she said it was you wanting attention. It wasnât easy being the middle of seven. But you dealt with it and now that you were across the country from your family - who you loved but Jesus Christ did you need a break - you didnât need to act out to seek attention.Â
You were an adult. Meaning you wouldnât goof off with guys like that anymore. Meaning you didnât even want to talk to guys like that anymore.
Meaning you were severely regretting taking his stupid pen.
Maybe he wouldnât notice if you didnât give it back. Yeah. Maybe you could just ignore him and he wonât even remember that he let you borrow it.
Those were your hopes as you walked into your US History lecture, taking the seat you had on Tuesday.
âOn time today? Glad to see weâre learning.â And there go your hopes, crashing straight into the floor, shattering into millions of tiny pieces. Going for ânot interestedâ, you quirked an eyebrow, twisting your head as a bag landed on the table next to your open laptop, a body falling into the seat beside you. The leather jacket was replaced with a denim one, his black button up tighter around his chest than Tuesdayâs white t-shirt. âAnd you charged your computer! Very nice, doll.â
You shrugged, going back to your doodling. âTime managementâs always been a bit of an issue for me.â
âAh. Gotchu, gotchu. Iâve got a pal like that too. A couple of them, actually.â He chuckled. âIs that why you high-tailed outta here Tuesday?â
âIâve got work right after this class.â You answered shortly.
He leaned his elbow on the table, his legs spread as he turned fully to, a slight smirk on his face. âI havenât seen you âround campus before. You new here? A freshman? You donât look like it.â
You hummed. âMaybe. Itâs a big campus.â
âWhich you donât live on.âÂ
Frowning at the question that he said more like a statement, you moved your head back to him. âI donât?â
He shook his head, setting his cheek in his palm. âNope. I know everyone who lives on campus.â
A bit distracted due to Professor Coulson just walking in and announcing the lesson for the day, you hummed and shut your notebook and set up a page on your laptop for notes. âEveryone, huh?â
He nodded with a click of his tongue. âI get around.â
There it was. âOh? A party animal?â
âI wouldnât say that. My friends and I are just outgoing. We enjoy life.â
âEnjoy life or enjoy getting into girlâs pants?â
He hissed, shaking his hand like he burned it. âOuch, doll. That stung. For your information, quite a few people in my group are goinâ steady. And weâre of mixed genders and sexualities. Itâs not always girlsâ pants.â
You raised an eyebrow, turning to him while still trying to pay attention. âFor you or your group.â
âDoes it matter?â He shrugged. âWould it bother you if I did fuck guys? âCause I have experimented and itâs not half bad.â
âNope.â You popped the âpâ, shaking your head. âYou do you, pal. OrâŚdo whoever you want to. Now if you donât mind, Iâm trying to-â
He nodded. âRight, right. Yeah. Sorry. JustâŚlisten. I think we got off on the wrong foot. Iâm not gonna force you to do anything, you know. Yeah, sure, Iâve seen a few beds around campus, but Iâve got female friends who I donât sleep with. What if I just wanna be friends with you, huh doll?â
âJust friends?â
âYup.â
âReally?â
âUh-huh.â
You narrowed your eyes. âOkay. How many of these so-called female friends you donât sleep with single?â
He chuckled, running a hand through his hair. âThe list gets smaller, but yeah.â
âHow about single straight female friends?â
He paused at that, eyebrows scrunched up. After a moment you clicked your tongue with a slight smirk, facing your computer and typing the notes Coulson was writing on the projector. âHold on, hold on. Yes, Iâve got a few of them. Listen, babygirl, youâre making this a lot harder than it needs to be.â
You scoffed. âDonât call me âbabygirlâ and weâll see where that gets you.â
âOkay, okay. Thatâs fair. What? Donât you believe that guys and girls can be friends with nothing between âem?â
âYeah, I do. Just not guys like you.â
He frowned, eyes narrowing. âWell thatâs not fair. You donât even know me!â
âMister Barnes.â Bucky winced at the teacherâs annoyed shout, before throwing Coulson a dashing grin.
âHey, Phil! How was your summer, man? You still goinâ out with that cellist?â
The professor raised his eyebrows, unamused. âIs there something youâd like to share with the class?â
âOh yeah! Thanks for the reminder, Phil!â Bucky stood up and cleared his throat. âYo! First football game of the season is next Friday! Itâs gonna be a blast! Watch out for number 41! Handsome devilâs gonna score the winning touchdown! Avengers assemble, am I right?!â
Coulson gave him an unamused look as the room cheered, making you laugh behind your hand. Bucky fell back into his seat, shooting you a wink as Coulson calmed down the room.
âYouâre a football player?â
âFullback, yes maâam. Co-captain of the team, in fact.â He smugly leaned his seat onto the back two legs, setting his feet up on the desk.
Unbelievable. Why were you always attracted to these idiots? A player in both senses of the word. âThere it is.â
He blinked, his chair falling forwards with a âthudâ that made Coulson shot him a warning glare. Bucky smiled innocently, before shifting his chair so he was turned towards you again, the smile turning upside down. âThere what is?â
âThat cocky, conceited air you fill the room with. Attention is what you live for. I shouldâve guessed you were a jock too. Iâm surprised youâre not wearing a letterman jacket or something just to make sure everyone knows who you are.â
His frown deepened. âLook, doll. I dunno what you think you know about me, or what youâve heard-â
âIâve never heard about you before you lent me a pen Tuesday. Which I appreciate and here it is back, by the way. But I know your type. Iâve been down that road. So excuse me for trying not to make the same mistake twice.â
He stared at the pen you set down by his bag, before his gaze flitted back to you, but you wouldnât meet those pretty eyes of his. âFine. Sue me for trying to get to know the new girl.â
âThis is a mainly freshman class. Half the girls in here are new.â
âYeah, but theyâre chattering away with the posse theyâve already discovered.â He nodded over across the room. Your eyes scanned the lecture hall to find that he was right. Most girls were giggling and whispering to each other, no doubt freshman straight from high school. The others were most likely maturing sophomores. âAnd, hey, if you want extra reassurance Iâm not trying to get you in my bed; I donât fuck with freshman. Nothing against you or anything, justâŚstraight outta high school and all that? Not really my jam.â
You eyed him, before shrugging and looking down to make sure you got the notes Coulson was starting to talk about. âYeah, well, too bad Iâm not straight out of high school, then.â
He tilted his head, an eyebrow raising in curiosity. âSo youâre not a freshman. I didnât think you were.â
âNo, I am. But I took a year break between high school and college. But if you didnât think I was a freshman, that reassurance doesnât really work, now does it.â He opened his mouth to defend himself, but you continued, not wanting excuses. âWhat about you? Youâre definitely not a freshman.â
âNah. Iâm a junior. I studied abroad for a semester last year and there were mishaps my freshman year, so Iâve got a few classes to make up. My friend had this class last year, so I just took all his notes. Coulson never changes his lectures. Pretty sure he doesnât even change the tests.â You hummed, pretending you were barely listening when you really heard every word loud and clear. Bucky huffed, reaching out to grab your wrist gently, making you stop typing and look up to meet his eyes. âCan we start over? Please. I donât know what type of guys you used to know or whatever and, yeah, Iâll admit I started the conversation like an idiot, but I promise Iâm not that bad.â
Pursing your lips, you scanned his features, taking in the pleading eyes and the pouty lips. Clearing your throat, you took your hands off the keyboard, straightened a bit, and turned to him, holding out your hand, your full name falling from your lips.
The beam he gave you had you severely doubting your initial thoughts about him, his larger, calloused hand taking your eagerly. âJames Barnes. Everyone calls me Bucky.â
You nodded, before starting to type again. âWhat are you studying?â
âMechanical engineering.â
You paused, not expecting that answer. Maybe you were wrong - majorly wrong. âReally?â
âYeah. I dunno. Technologyâs always interested me and I like fixing cars and stuff; I work at an auto shop actually. I dunno what Iâm gonna do with it yet, but it feels like a step in the right direction, ya know?â
âIâm afraid not.â You shook your head. âI have no idea what Iâm doing.â
He chuckled, drumming his fingers against the table. âThatâs alright, doll. I donât think anyone does. They just think they do.â
âThatâsâŚvery true, actually.â
He grinned, running a hand through his hair again, his tongue darting out to wet his lips. âI told you: Iâm not an idiot all the time. I swear.â That made you laugh.
Bucky talked to you throughout the rest of the class, never going above a whisper as he babbled about his other classes and how one of his friends, Sam, tripped down the stairs that morning. You were almost annoyed at him, but he was a very good conversationalist and he wasnât distracting you too badly. There werenât any awkward pauses while he stumbled around for something to talk about and if he wasnât talking, it was a comfortable silence filled with Coulsonâs voice, pen scribbling on paper, and the clicking of computer keys. He never pushed you for responses, either, only asking a couple questions, like where you worked and what other classes you had.
âSorry if Iâm bothering you.â He said a few minutes before class was over. âIâm just bored.â
âNo. Youâre fine.â Honestly, besides a few flirty comments and that pet name âdollâ popping up here and there, he wasnât as bad as you were thinking.
He went quiet for a moment before clearing his throat, almost nervously. Your forehead creased as you snuck a glance at him. He licked his lips, a hand combing through his locks, scratching the back of his head. You wondered why he did that so often.
âSo, uh, thereâs this cabin in the woods by the lake about half an hour awayâŚâ His eyes widened at the weird look you shot him. âOh fuck, that sounds so bad. No, no. Itâs not - Iâm not a serial killer or anything. My friend owns it. Well, technically his dad does, but itâs his. Anyways, he always throws a party the first weekend of a new semester. On Saturday. Noon to midnight. If youâd wanna come.â
You quirked an eyebrow, packing up your stuff as Coulson dismissed class early. âYouâre asking me to go to your friendâs cabin in the woods-?â
He shook his head with a little laugh. âIt sounds so sketchy. I promise itâs legit, though. Honest. You can ask anyone. Itâs Tony Starkâs party. He holds one every-â
âYouâre friends with Tony Stark?â
He nodded, shoving his hands in his pockets. âYeah. Weâre in the same circle. I know how it sounds, but-â
âIâm working.â You cut him off, finding it amusing how he rambled. Who knew a fuckboy could get so nervous about asking a girl to a party. âBut if you give me the address Iâll see if I can get some time off.â
âThatâd be awesome. Yeah, yeah. Here.â He quickly grabbed the post-it note you handed to him and scribbled the address down. âItâd be really cool if you could make it.â
âIâll try. Cross my heart.â You smiled, taking the paper from him. âI do have to go, though-â
âOh right. Yeah. Work. Iâll see you this weekend, then. Maybe.â He grinned.
You bit your lip, nodding. âMaybe.â
As he started walking out, you looked down to grab your bag, the pen left on the table catching your attention. âHey!â You called after him, making him turn around, walking backwards with that grin still on his lips. You lifted the writing utensil to show him. âYour pen!â
He shook his head. âKeep it! I donât take notes in this class anyways!â He shot you a wink, before spinning on his heel, his hands in his pockets, whistling some random tune, without a care in the world.Â
**********************
âThere she is! So?! Howâs school been?! I wanna know!â
You grinned at Whitney as she bounced in, looking at you excitedly while going to wash her hands. âYouâre working early today. Itâs only 3.â
She shrugged. âThey wanted me in before dinner rush tonight. Donât dodge the question!â
âItâs been fine. Iâve met a couple people, doodled a few things, ignored syllabus talk - the usual.â
She sniggered, moving her eyebrows. âAny cute guys so far?â You thought back to your History lecture and Bucky, who confused the hell out of you. Whitneyâs squeal pulled you out of your thoughts. âThatâs a yes! Tell me about him immediately!âÂ
âItâs not a âyesâ. Thereâs nothing to tell.â
âBut he is hot, right?â
You rolled your eyes, but your lips pulled up at the corners. âHeâsâŚvery easy on the eyes.â
Whitney gave an excited squeak, quickly drying her hands and putting on gloves before sliding up to you. âSo? Tell me all about him.â
âNothing to tell.â
âBull.â She called out. âWhatâs his name?â
You huffed, focusing on the pizza you were making. âBucky.â
She tried it out on her tongue before nodding. âCute, cute. How old is he?â
âHeâs a junior, so Iâm guessing 20. Maybe 21 if his birthday was in the past week.â
Whitney hounded on you for every detail of your conversation, which you told her with some exception, leaving out the pen and some of the random stuff he told you. âSo heâs a fuckboy?â
âOh yeah. No doubt.â
âBut heâs a charming fuckboy?â
âMhmm.â
âAnd heâs not a dick?â
âSo far.â
âSoâŚheâs your type.â
You scoffed, giving her a look. âI donât have a âtypeâ.â
She gave you a bemused expression back. âHoney, itâs not a secret you like the charismatic guys that every girl swoons over. You just donât swoon over them and thatâs what makes you different.â
You scowled. âI donât swoon over them because they donât deserve my effort. And no. I donât have a thing for them. I justâŚtend to get their attention more than other guys.â
âBecause you donât swoon over them.â
âWhitney-â
âOkay, okay. What happened next?â
You shrugged. âNothing. He just sortaâŚtalked the entire class. He did invite me to a party on Saturday though-â
âOh my God! You have to go! College parties are the best! Youâll have so much fun!â She stopped to give you a serious look, pointing a finger towards you. âYouâre going, right?â
âI dunno. Maybe. Iâve got to ask Phillips if I can get time off and I-I dunno if I even want to go.â
Whitney groaned, throwing her hands in the air and letting her head fall back. âThis is the first party of your college life! There shouldnât be any doubt!â
âApparently Tony Stark is the one throwing it-â
âAre you fucking - you canât not go!â
You snickered, Whitneyâs persistence amusing you. âAgain. It depends on Phillips. Weâll see. I promise.â
âAt least tell me you got this guyâs number.â
âNope.â
Whitney glared at you. âYou are the absolute worst person to try getting drama out of, you know that? Youâre not interested at all in this guy?â
You shrugged, turning to throw the pizza in. âMaybe. I wanna try out this whole friend thing first. Tommyâs the first real guy friend Iâve had since middle school and thatâs mostly because heâs gay and we barely even talk outside work. Iâve never justâŚlet myself take a break from dating before.â
A sigh came from the other girl, who reluctantly nodded. âThatâs good, actually. Take a mental break. I respect that. But please, for the love of God, please try to have fun.â
You smirked, nodding. âIâve told you, Whit. I know how to have fun. Donât worry; if I do go to that party, Iâll have enough for both of us.â
âYes! I have to live college through you now, so itâs your responsibility!â
You mockingly saluted. âI wonât let you down, babe.â

Santa Invasion
âWhatâs this?â
âIce cream.â
âWell, I can tell that much just by looking, but...â
âTo be precise, it is an ice cream cake.â
A gigantic ladybug was sitting on the low table. Its vivid red and dark brown-like black shades were definitely berries and chocolate. The back was decorated with flowers like marguerite. It was adorable. And huge. It was a hemispherical cake that looked like a basket ball cut in half, the name of a store from Dogenzaka printed on its box. It was 7PM. The last customer had left, I was done with the cleaning and all we had left to do was closing the store. It was still the second week of December, so the mayhem of making provisions for winter presents was a few ways ahead, but the number of clients was increasing little by little.
Just what on earth would this beautiful jeweler come up in such times?
Due to a habit of his from whenever he had something that was hard to say aloud and thus failed to speak up, Mr. Richard Ranashinghe de Vulpian had a serious crease forming just slightly between his brows. It made me feel at ease. This guy didnât make a face like this when he was burdened with something that was actually difficult to say. He would speak more bland and expressionlessly instead.
âThis is a little souvenir.â
âAre you going to a customerâs place after this?â
Richardâs reply was a gentle ânoâ in English.
Heâd been often speaking a mix of Japanese and English lately. When English-speaking customers came by, he would switch completely to English as if for practical assessment, so I was desperate just to keep up with listening to them. I was grateful for having him as my English conversation teacher.
âA certain good-for-nothing who works with finances is currently in Japan, so...â
âAh, Jeffrey-san, is it? He seemed so busy last time... Sorry, forget what I just said.â
âNo need. That is a correct interpretation, so it is nothing to apologize about.â
Despite saying this, Richardâs facial expression did not seem even remotely satisfied as he swiftly took an indigo envelope out of his pocket. It had no seal, so it must have been handed over to him. The content was a pop-out card, and under a paper-craft cake colored with gold leaves and uneven printing, it was written in very tasteful Japanese: âIâm going to hold a party at the hotel, so come over. Iâll be waiting.â The date of the party was today and the place was the room of a luxury hotel in Tokyo. A home party? No, a hotel party.
The title was âRichardâs birthday partyâ. The plate of the pop-up cake didnât say âMerry Christmasâ. It said âHappy Birthdayâ.
Christmas Eve on the 24th was this beautiful shopkeeperâs birthday.
As I returned the card to him, a crease once again formed between Richardâs brows as he said with an unsparingly decisive tone, âHow very embarrassing.â
âDoesnât seem so much like it from your face.â
âBecause I practiced making it. But this is extremely embarrassing. I think it is not something that warrants going through the trouble of arranging a plane ticket.â
âI wonder if anyone else will be going.â
âIt seems Chieko will attend. I received an e-mail yesterday saying, âI am going to show up as a surprise so please take care of meâ.â
âIs that even a surprise? Well, okay.â
Chieko-san was Richard and Jeffreyâs private tutor in the past and I was acquainted with her to some degree. I wondered if Homura-san, who had married her daughter, was also coming. No, not happening. He was a customer of Etranger, so Richard would probably feel abashed if he did so.
âIf it goes on like this, the people lying in wait in that room will just gang up into an assembly to celebrate me.â
âWhat even is âganging up to celebrateâ?â
âThey are ganging up on me. I likely will not be able to say anything other than âthank you very muchâ. I need reinforcements. If you would like, could you come with me?â
âMe too? That okay?â
âOf course. The party starts at 8PM probably because it coincides with Etrangerâs closing hours. That British safe-like man is not narrow-minded enough to leave you out.â
It was written there that the party would begin at 8PM. We had 30 minutes. There was no spare time to make a pudding. What to do? What should I do?
Richard was apparently unable to let my groaning an ângh, nghâ while deep in thought go unnoticed. âIf it is impossible for you, just say so right away. I know that you are at the final stage of studying for your exams.â
âThat doesnât matter. Why didnât you tell me a bit earlier about this? If I knew, I couldâve made preparations for it... Aah, is that why?â
âIt is. I recall saying that you should refrain from being overly distracted.â
âI donât think a âcelebrationâ is âoverly distractingâ, though.â
âAnything is fine, so please answer. Will you come or not?â
He didnât have to go as far as asking me something like that.
I bowed in a way that wouldnât cause any hairs to fall onto the ice cream ladybug. âI shall humbly accompany you.â
âVery well.â
âSorry, but before that, I gotta go to the toilet for a bit.â
I hastily rushed to Etrangerâs restroom and unlocked my phone in a flash. I then tapped on the e-mail app. Of course, the destination could only be one person.
âHelp. Iâm sorry but I just got informed about the birthday party, so I have no present.â
Jeffrey-san.
The contents of the message were not at all on a level that someone should send to the person they owed their life to, but he would understand.
The reply came in a matter of seconds. As expected, he worked fast.
âGood evening. I have everything, so thereâs no problem if you come empty-handed. There will be champagne, canapĂŠs, chicken pie and cake, and I plan to have chocolate fondue coming up at the end.â
There was a proud smiley emoji at the end of the text. It seemed this was going to be a big deal.
Richard would probably have work tomorrow, and he wasnât the type to get wasted or stuff his face with sweets in the middle of the night. It seemed I also wouldnât have to worry about dinner. It made me feel sorry. This was the same old pattern. This course of eating and seeing good stuff amidst the confusion of the moment made my stomach hurt when I thought better about it.
âDonât you know anything that Richard wanted?â
The response came after a moment, âMy bad, but nothing comes to mind. How about you give him what you want most?â
What I wanted most. I could only think of refill shampoo and new socks. Iâd be ashamed of giving things like that to Richard. After all, this was a mixture of birthday and Christmas partyâ
Just as I was thinking this, a genius inspiration sprouted in my head. It wasnât the best solution. Not at all. But I felt it could work. This was too obvious, but if only I had the necessary materials for it, I could do it immediately.
Making up my mind, I came out of the restroom, apologized for making Richard wait, and as we rode to the designated address on the jaguar, I had him stop the car in front of a mass retailer for a moment. I told him I wanted to buy refill shampoo for my home. Richard was exasperated, but didnât have any suspicions in particular.
We arrived at the hotel, got into the elevator, and on the way to the party venue, I made sure to walk a bit behind Richard. Staying out of his sight was essential.
When he opened the door to the suite, sure enough, Jeffrey-san and Chieko-san were waiting inside. Giving off a relaxed atmosphere, a room-service feast even bigger than what I had imagined from the phone call was waiting on the table for the main guest.
âHappy birthday, Richard. Chiekoâs here too. Surprised?â
âOf course. Very surprised. Extremely.â
âHmm, by the looks of it, I guess there was some information leak. Well, thatâs okay! Whereâs Nakata-kun?â
âWhat do you mean âwhereâ? Heâs right here. Seigi... Seigi?â
My eyes locked with Richardâs. I had locked them with Jeffrey-sanâs before that. I was grateful that he had done me the favor of not laughing.
I politely shook my head at my boss, who was making a flabbergasted face. âMy name is Santa.â
What I had bought at the mass retailer was a handy Santa makeover set. The three-piece set consisted of a hat, a put-on beard and a Santa costume, but I hadnât had time to change into the costume, so it was folded up in my bag. I intended to borrow the suiteâs bathroom to put on the costume. If I at least had my face ready, I could somehow make it work.
Richard was dumbfounded. It was the obvious reaction. But I wanted him to forgive me for this. After all, it was December and today was a party day.
âIâm Santa Claus! I came from the North Pole. Please take care of me for today!â After introducing myself, I thought that maybe this wasnât an exemplary self-introduction for Santa, but it was already too late.
Jeffrey-san, who completely livened up the mood whenever he got excited, went along with the joke, saying, âWah, Santa-san, thank you for coming from such a faraway place!â
I was grateful for that one. And that was how I got away with playing the role of a worldwide mascot-like old man character from the Arctic for the day. The ice cream cake brought by the star of the party was a success, and we had a toast with both champagne and royal milk tea. Chieko-san was wearing a kimono, the remade peridot brooch on her chest.
It had already been more than half a year since then, but to my body, it felt like even longer ago.
My location had moved from Japan to Sri Lanka, as one would expect, and I was busy fully enjoying a spring in which white temple flowers were blooming in Kandy, my new home. But for some reason, Santa was here. A beautiful blond, blue-eyed man slipped in and out of sight, but his outward appearance was that of Santa Claus. It was the kind of Santa costume that you could buy at the costume section of any mass retailer. One of the sad things about unmatched beauty was the fact nobody could actually claim that his natural beauty was ruined by the look. The brilliance of his blue eyes, which looked like they could suck you in, was the same as ever.
âI am Santa Claus. I came from the North Pole.â
âBut nowâs a hot time of the year.â
âSanta Claus is a symbol of summer in the Southern Hemisphere. I do not think it is particularly strange.â
âT-That might be true. Well, then... whatâre you doing?â
âSanta does what Santa does. The tradition of Santa Claus, much like the language of jewels, has a wide variety of legends to it depending on the region, but either way, the role of a saint who grants blessings to little children, women and those in need is a guise commonly demanded in society. And for you, here it is.â Saying this, âSantaâ offered me a plastic, loose stone display case that I was all too familiar with. There was a red stone stuck between the cushion and transparent lid. âCan you identify this gemstone?â
âTourmaline, I guess. Red tourmaline.â
âGood for you. Did you know that it has one more name?â
âRubellite.â
âPerfect. Large, pinkish-red tourmalines are called by that name, and it is a stone of which huge carved crystals have been loved as works of art, such as the amulet of Empress Dowager Cixi and the Romanov royal treasure, the âStrawberry Pendantâ.â
As I peeked at the stone inside the case, humming that it was pretty, the beautiful jeweler cleared his throat and started over.
âJust as peopleâs feelings dwell within beautiful stones, this one is filled with the feeling of celebrating the start of your new life, from your family back in Japan, your friends and your superior at work, with whom you have a relationship other than the aforementioned and that neither of us knows how to define. Santa is wholly thankful for being in the position to bestow you with such a gift. I forgot to say it, but happy birthday. Nakata Seigi-san. I sincerely pray, all the way from my home in the Arctic, that this year will be a fruitful one for you.â
âThank you. Seriously, thank you for always, Richa...â
âSanta. I am a passing Santa.â
âThen letâs go with that. By the way, if youâre Santa, where are the reindeers?â
When asked this, the man in disguise answered with a cool gaze that the reindeers were using stealth technology nowadays so that they wouldnât be found by radars, hence they couldnât be seen. He had it down to the details.
âItâs been about ten years since the last time Santa-san came around. Iâll take good care of this. Santa-san, you take care of your body too. Iâll ask my boss next time I see him about the person who gave you this stone.â
âYou should. Well, then.â With a bow, Santa left for a car parked in the courtyard. I probably wasnât supposed to see him off. Iâd feel bad for the stealth reindeers.
The red stone stayed in my hand.
I had told a white lie. It hadnât been ten years since Santa had last showed up. This was the first time ever since I was born. In my home, there was always someone playing the role of âSantaâ, such as Hiromi, Grandma and Nakata-san, so they never tried to tell me nice lies. Nakata-san probably just followed Hiromiâs way of doing things, though. The fact I thought up something like that last December, when Jeffrey asked me what I âwanted mostâ, might not have been unrelated to this. At any rate, to me, not even once was there any supernatural existence who would leave toys by my bedside if I were a good kid. Until this day.
After a while of standing by the garden, where it was always summer, and listening closely to the cries of birds with my eyes closed, I unlocked my phone. The Wi-Fi range of the house seemed good, and so I could send e-mails immediately. The contents were simple. The destination was my boss, Richard.
âSanta came to my place. But he left so quick that I couldnât make him tea.â
The reply soon came: âAre you half-asleep?â
If he really thought that I was half-asleep, then maybe I should delay the reply for a few more minutes, I thought, but I didnât write anything further. The houseâs cleaning was half-assed and I had to check the security. I also wanted to know as many of my neighbors as could.
Together with the feeling that I had suddenly been given something I had forgotten, and that I didnât even know I had forgotten, I put rubellite in the jewelry safe and stepped out into the Sri Lankan provincial city. I had nothing to fear and no hesitation. The ill feeling that Iâd be living here alone had disappeared. After all, Santa had come by. Far from elementary school, I was now an adult who had already graduated from university, and it currently wasnât December but May, where the only anniversary I could think of was my own birthday, yet Santa had come by. Such an impossible thing had happened.
So I could do my best, I thought.
And so, I could be getting ahead of myself, but I began thinking about my plans for this December. Would there be a second chance for Santa to appear? If not, I wanted to make one. I decided to fuss over the outfit a little more and prepare proper gifts this time. Then Iâd tell him stories about jewels and try to make him laugh a lot. That, too, was Santaâs duty.

moving on ; miya atsumu
warnings not edited, break ups, and some awkward moments
genre angst, college au
word count 1.3k
inspiration n/a
synopsis in which you stop by your ex's place to get the last of your things, putting the last nail in the coffin for the both of you
This was a bad idea, not only you said this but your best friend who had told you multiple times, had said this. But you couldn't just leave them there. And it was definitely out of the question to return to you and Atsumu's messages and awkwardly ask him to drop off your stuff.
You shuddered at the sole thought of it.
Though, as you stood in front of his familiar apartment door, memories flooding back, you considered the latter. No matter how awkward or selfish it was.
The longer you stood at a stand still, those memories began to rage. From the first time you walked up to it. To all the lighthearted times Atsumu held you against it, the both of you laughing and giggling as he would place butterfly kisses all over your face, never forgetting that sensitive spot on your neck.
And of course you couldn't forget the pouring night you and him put the final nail in the coffin for your relationship.
Now that, made you shudder.
You didn't like recalling that moment. It still felt fresh considering it was just two weeks ago. But it just came back whenever you thought you had finally rid your mind of Atsumu completely. It flooded you with guilt and a smidge of regret, even though the split was mutual.
Thankfully, there were no tears shared. The realization hit you when had got back to your own apartment, in dry clothes and warm sheets, your best friend convinced you to immediately delete all your pictures with him. You still remember vividly the salty tears that welled up in your eyes.
You always wondered if the same happened to Atsumu when he deleted your photos together too.
"Alright," never did you expect you'd be giving yourself a pep talk outside your ex's door, but here you were. Bouncing on the balls of your feet, preparing yourself like you were about to run miles or score a winning point for your team.
But no, it was none of that. Just preparing yourself to get the last things that connected a string between you and Atsumu.
"You can do this. Just in and out." You inhaled deeply and let it go slower than you anticipated. Why did this have to be so hard?
Finally, shaking off your jitters and doubts, your raised a fist to knock at Atsumu's door. But you practically froze when you heard the stalling of footsteps behind you.
"Uh, ___?" No, no, no. One those balls of your feet, you slowly turned to face Atsumu. He looked confused to say the least. Who wouldn't when their ex of two weeks is at their door?
You cleared your throat. "Iâuhâ hey, I was just here toâ uhâ pick up my stuff, you know?" Atsumu's face relieved itself of the confusion, practically saying 'Ah' just by the expression.
"About time," he makes the joke but doesn't full on laugh himself. It misses you with too, a too soon on the tip of your tongue. Though it really wasn't, Atsumu had gotten his stuff from your place last week. You wonder if he had been waiting for your stale text for the past week.
Atsumu clears his throat like you had done. "I should open the door." He whispers and glides past you. Silently, you follow him. Almost letting a quip to retort back to him but you knew you guys were not at that stage of comfortability anymore, far from it. And you bet you guys were never going to reach it again.
You follow him inside and see that many of the lights are already on, so you assume Osamu was inside. The image of him opening the door on you before you could get to knock because he heard your stupid pep talk creeped up on you and you cringed.
Yet his head of brown didn't pop out anywhere to point at you and laugh like he did when you used to do things like that. There was going to be no more that either, the realization made you frown.
You stayed behind Atsumu through the layout of his apartment, walking around here was like second nature to you, you almost had the urge to walk beside him. But you kept you distance, even in his bedroom where you guys would spend sleepless nights talking about anything but nothing at the same time.
"I think it should be over here." Atsumu headed to a corner of his room, definitely referring to a crate or box where he had stored your things. And bingo, he was. The box was quite big like the one your best friend helped you pack with his stuff.
No surprise because this apartment was your second home. First really if you thought about it.
"Here." Atsumu said, but he made to move to hand it over to you. It was like he was soaking up his last moments with your things, and possibly with you.
And it wasn't like you made a move either. Deep down your felt that regret. Walking in here did not help with your want to move on. It just made you realize how much you missed it. How much you missed your relationship, and how much you missed Atsumu.
Only seconds ticked by before Atsumu jutted the box out to you but it felt like hours. You accepted it, muttering a quiet thank you.
"I should get going." You said, it was in a sad tone and you're sure he caught that. You took a single step back to distance yourself.
Atsumu nodded, agreeing silently. He led you out of his room, and without any words, you said good bye to it and to the hallways with the scratches and dents, to the living room where game and movie night would happen, to the kitchen where Atsumu would hover over you whenever you cooked. You'd especially miss the slow dances to old rnb, that was a memory you treasured.
And like you wanted, you were in and out. Standing on the opposite side of the door while Atsumu stood in the threshold. You weren't going to give your self a pep talk this time around, now it was time to say good bye. Not to the door, but to Atsumu.
His eyes were sad, and you could assume yours were too. "So," he started, scratching at his nape.
"So," you copied. There was a silence before Atsumu unexpectedly let out a laugh.
"I'm sorryâ it's justâ I never imagined us doing this." He took the words right out of your mouth. You and Atsumu used to talk about your future together frequently, especially about marriage. And now those talks would have to be forgotten.
You nodded. "Me either," you smiled weakly. "But it's for the best right? This what we both wanted?"
Was it?
Atsumu's mouth twitched like he wanted to say something different other than, "Right."
Another silence came between you two, which Atsumu shattered again. "I guess I'll see you around campus, yea?"
You hummed. "I'll see you." You edged back a bit, still somehow holding eye contact with Atsumu. The image of you guys having one of those dramatic movie scenes where you just run back into each other's arm and say how much you regretted ever breaking up played in your mind.
But that didn't happen. You finally said goodbye to Atsumu with your eyes, turning away and walking down the hallway for what you expected to be the last time.
Standing in the elevator, you came to terms that breaking up with Atsumu was definitely something you didn't want. Yet, it seemed like things were already set in stone for the both of you.

He won then we lost but itâs okay
( I wrote something for the FD!AU made by @antarctic-bay !! I love your AU so it was really fun to write something for it!! And if the original creator doesnât like this then Iâll delete it!!
And keep in mind this writing isnât canon!! Itâs just a Drabble I wrote in like 6 non-consecutive hours! And Iâm sorry for any funky formatting, I wrote this in a google doc then copied it here lmao)
(TW: Swearing and light âangstâ)
The world moved in slow motion as the ball hit the rim, Tommy held his breath.
It slipped through the rim, the buzzer sounded.
Tommy let out the breath as a scream. He did it, he made the shot, they won.
They won.
He looked up to his brothers, Techno was screaming like a mad man, cheering loudly, âOh my God! Thatâs my- thatâs my brother! Holy shit!â Wilbur was just as loud, throwing his arms around Techno as they yelled.
And Phil.
He made it.
He stood there with the biggest grin on his face, eyes shining as he cheered. For him.
It was the best feeling.
Then his team was surrounding him, cheering, clapping him on his shoulders, messing up his hair. He was laughing, it was a happy, half- hyperventilating, shriek as a few of his team mates attempted to pick him up.
Soon the crowd was clearing and his brothers were moving onto the court to congratulate him. Techno slung an arm around his shoulder while Wilbur messed up his hair, laughing.
Phil smiled at him, eyes shining with pride.
âTommy that was amazing, Iâm so proud of you!â
Tommy smiled so hard his face hurt.
Techno and Wilbur were listening as Tommy babbled on about the points he scored when Phil went to talk to Coach Pete.
âSince Tommy joined the team heâs been so great, you can almost forget about him being a delinquent!â
The three youngers froze in place, none of them dared move as Phil scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
âIâm sorry, what?â
âEver since Tommy joined the team, heâs been fighting much less than before, itâs wonderful.â
âYes, I guess it is.â Phil turned slowly to look at his younger brothers, who all smiled nervously back.
âRun,â Techno hissed at them.
âTechâs right, he canât catch us all.â Wilbur agreed.
âWell, itâs been a long day, Iâm sure you guys are tired,â Phil said, throwing an arm around Wilburâs shoulders, âAnd we have a few things to discuss, donât we boys?â
They walked towards the car awkwardly, Techno and Tommy climbed into the backseat while Wilbur and Phil got upfront. Once they started to pull out of the parking lot Phil started;
âWhat the fuck did he mean?â He asked, looking back sharply at Tommy.
âWell, um, you see, so-â Tommy stammered before looking at Techno, âHelp me out a little here!â
âYouâre the delinquent dude,â Was all he got.
âOh my god, youâre useless- anyways, uh, I learned how to fight at Deoâs Dojo, cause people at our school- people at our school really suck, man, they suck and I wanted to be able to defend myself and others, ya know?â
Phil nodded slowly, with an eyebrow raised, âOkay, that still doesnât explain the âdelinquentâ thing.â
âHe was essentially being a vigilante, since bullying is a big problem at our school, he stops a lot of it.â Techno added, âIf it makes you feel better, I checked him over, he was never hurt too badly.â
âSo you knew about it?â
Technoâs face dropped slightly, âUhhhh, there is a great possibility that I did.â
âWilbur was in on it too!â Tommy blurted out, trying to take some of the heat off Techno.
âWhat!â Phil ripped his eyes off the road to gape at Wilbur while Wilbur himself whipped around to glare at Tommy,âSeriously?!â
âAll three of you were doing this shit?!â Phil snapped, looking back at the road.
âNot the fighting, I just helped figure out who was an asshole, Tommy beat them up, and Techno made sure Tommy was okay afterwards.â Wilbur crossed his arms, looking out the window.
âHow- how did you three even manage to pull this off?â
âWilbur knows a lot of people and was able to get information from them. Techno did medical research to make sure he knew what to do and I practiced a lot, so it just kind of worked.â Tommy mumbled.
Phil just shook his head slightly, âWell, for starters you guys are grounded.â
âYeah, I saw that coming.â Wilbur shrugged.
âThanks a lot Tommy,â Techno grumbled,
âWhat do you mean âThanks a lot Tommyâ? You gladly helped me!â
âNot gladly-â
âFucking lies dude! Lies!â
They continued down the road in silence, tension filled the air, when Tommy noticed Philâs shoulders start to shake, it took him a minute to realize that Phil was laughing.
It started out as a quiet chuckle that grew into guffawing. They were at a stoplight when it evolved into loud, infectious, cackling, soon they were laughing along with him, nervousness and tension fading away as Phil shoved his face in his hand.
âItâs just,â He broke off laughing, âItâs so stupid, How- how did you even manage to pull this off?â He cackled again before taking a breath, eyes raking over his younger brothers, âYou guys are idiots,â He grinned fondly and Tommy sighed, It was a good night.
They had arrived home and Tommy immediately went to shower, once he got out and changed he stepped into his shared room he was greeted by Techno, who was laying upside down on his bed, rolling a fidget cube between his fingers, and Wilbur, who was on the floor, scribbling in a notebook.
âWhat are you guys doing?â
âWe are still feeling kind of bad about the whole, so we wanted to do something for Phil,â Techno explained.
âWe are between making a big feast for dinner tomorrow for both you and Phil or some off brand fourth of July thing with possibly illegal firecrackers,â Wilbur said, biting the end of his pencil.
âDefinitely the dinner,â Tommy said flatly, flopping down on his bed, exhausted, âWe donât need him more upset with whatever option two was.â
âYeah, we were leaning towards that.â
âYou should have been falling towards it,â Tommy said, throwing his towel on his desk chair.
âNext part is what should we make? I think a whole chicken would-â
âWait!â Techno shot up suddenly, âHang on!â He rushed out of the room, tripping over his own feet.
âCould you have an attention span longer than two minutes?â Wilbur called after him, rolling his eyes. A few minutes later Techno came back into the room and slid towards Wilbur on his knees, shoving a dusty box at him.
âWhat the hell is that?â Tommy asked, rolling over to look at his brothers.
âAre those momâs old recipes?â Wilbur asked, sitting up.
âYes! Phil said one of these was his favorite! I donât exactly remember which one but itâs one of these!â Techno grinned widely, Wilbur flipped through the worn recipes, gaping, âTech this is perfect!â
âI think his favorite was the chicken parm or something like that.â Tommy said, leaning over the edge of his bed.
âI think heâs right,â Techno agreed.
After twenty minutes of scheming and sorting they had a plan, it was almost perfect when Tommy asked; âWait, how are we going to get all of the ingredients? Weâre grounded!â
âI got it covered,â Wilbur said, pulling out his phone, texting someone, a few moments later he grinned before slipping it back in his pocket.
âMy friend is gonna pick up the ingredients for us in the morning and drop them off, so we technically wonât break any rules.â
âThisâll be great! As long as we can pull it off!â Tommy beamed, Techno and Wilbur nodded in agreement. Theyâd make it up to their brother.
The next morning after Phil headed off to work, Wilburâs friend showed up with all of the ingredients, after they unloaded it all and Wilbur paid them back, painfully, they were ready to start. Techno started picking up around the apartment more while Wilbur and Tommy prepped the kitchen.
âTommy do you know how to dice things?â
âProbably,â
âOh my God, itâs gonna be a long day.â
After a long day of cooking, cleaning, and baking, it was finally done. They had set the table, the food was out, the cake Techno made was chilling in the fridge and most of the dishes were done, all that was left to do was wait.
And that was the worst part.
Ten minutes later and Phil finally walked through the door, shoulders drooping.
âHey guys,â He greeted weakly, waving at Wilbur in the kitchen. He set down his bag and coat on the couch then looked over at the table to see it fully set, covered in food and his brothers standing next to it with nervous smiles.
âSurprise!â Tommyâs voice was barely stronger than a whisper, he watched as life flooded back into Philâs eyes.
âWhat- what is this?â He took a step closer.
âWe wanted to celebrate Tommyâs victory and try to make up the whole delinquent, vigilante thing, so we did this,â Tommy explained quietly, âDo you like it?â
âThis, guys, this is-â Phil paused, a gentle smile pulled at his lips as he chuckled, âThis is amazing.â He wrapped an arm around them, eyes watering;
âIâm so proud of you guys.â

MIND GAMES - THREE
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary: The team goes on a mission. You meet someone who might expose you.Â
Warnings: angst, mentions of violenceÂ
Note: Wanna be tagged in future chapters? Shoot me a message :) Sorry for being MIA for so long. Iâve been sad. Blegh.Â
SERIES MASTERLIST.
PREVIOUS CHAPTER.
Over the few days that follow, you become increasingly paranoid. Itâs your own fault, because you shouldnât have lied to the people that have welcomed you into their homes with open arms, but lying is a survival skill that you were taught many years ago, and old habits die hard. You become shadowy, avoid team members in the hallways and common areas of the penthouse floor you all share, and stay in your room as much as possible without alarming anyone. Of course Natasha knows something is up, but Steve doesnât, and he waves off her concern as you simply âneeding more time to adjust, Natâ. You watch their body language during breakfast â one of two meals a day you simply cannot get out of without causing anyoneâs alarm bells to start ringing â and engage in light conversation wherever possible to keep them out of your hair.
Guilt gnaws at your insides when you find yourself wandering the deserted wrap-around balcony at nearly 3 a.m., brain searching for a clue to any bad things that might happen. If any one of them figures out youâre ex-hydra youâre done for, that much you know, but the man with golden hair and twinkling azure eyes might just be your ticket to safety.
The thought alone sickens you, because you vowed never to mess with someoneâs feelings to get what you need ever again. Itâs a twisted thought, but the vines of its root wrap themselves around the stem of your brain nonetheless.
A month after first moving in, youâve already figured out their routines. Steveâs the early riser of the bunch, getting up every morning at 6:30 a..m. sharp to go on a run around the city. On rare occasions, he manages to convince Sam to come along with him, but more often than not, he remains in his bed until at least 10 oâclock, when Steveâs already come back to shower and get dressed for the day. Tony and Bruce are in the lab 24/7, both of them constantly bickering about artificial intelligence and microbiology among other matters you canât even begin to understand. As a result, you donât see them around too often, a notion you donât particularly mind. Clint left to be with his family two weeks ago and hasnât been back since, and Natasha leaves all the time, sometimes for days at a time. You donât dare to ask anyone where she goes when she disappears, but nobody seems surprised to find her seat at the dining table empty again.
Itâs a gloomy day when you wake up to find the entire place void of all life. Not even Steve, whoâs adamant about his morning coffee, is there to grace you with his presence when you walk into the kitchen that Saturday morning. The counter is clean, no empty coffee cups, half-eaten bowls of oatmeal or bread crumbs to indicate anyoneâs eaten yet, and all of the chairs are still perfectly lined against the table.
Your pulse involuntarily quickens to an uncomfortable pace, and you bite the inside of your cheek until the metallic taste of blood is heavy on your tongue. With quick steps, you walk towards the common room, footsteps loud in your ears when you consider where they might be. As expected, thereâs nobody there. The TV is switched off, there are no dents in the heavy fabric of the couch from where Steve usually sits, and again, no empty cups or bowls can be found on the coffee table. You have the jitters when you finally get to the library, which is again void of all life.
Black socks covered in small holes squeak across the wooden floors when you walk around the room. Itâs not surprising to see the library vacant. Youâre sure Avengers have more pressing matters to tend to than reading books on any given day, but it was your last hope nonetheless. With your head tilted to the side, you focus on scanning the titles that line the walls. You follow every shelf in the room until your eye finally catches something. You take the book with a sigh, flip through its tattered pages, and wonder for a moment which one of the Avengers has read the crap out of Pride and Prejudice. Definitely not Sam, judging by his internal monologue. That guy doesnât appear to have an ounce of romanticism inside him. Â
âTheyâre out,â a gentle voice suddenly says behind you, âSteve didnât want to wake you up this morning to tell you.â
You slap your hand over your heart in surprise, and inhale sharply, âJesus Christ, doc. You scared the hell out of me.â
Bruce throws his hands up in the air and shrugs his shoulders, âSorry, itâs just me.â
âAre they on a mission?â you ask, feeling your heart jump in your chest like a skippy ball.
âYeah, they should be back in a few days. Are you alright? You look like youâve seen a ghost.â
You swallow thickly, noticing all of a sudden how your mouth is dry like sandpaper, âyou just spooked me, thatâs all. What kind of mission is it?â
âIntel gathering, in an out. Thatâs why I didnât come. They only bring me when they need the green guy,â he says.
âOh yeah,â you reply slowly, âhowâs he holding up?â
âAsleep,â Bruce smiles, then clears his throat, âfor now, anyway. Would you like to get some breakfast?â
You follow Bruce through the rain, which started to gust from the grey sky just as you were getting dressed. Youâd rather have said no, but you knew you couldnât; it wouldnât be polite to decline his offer. Besides, heâs oblivious, and for whatever reason, he trusts you. When he bites into his chocolate croissant, you know why â Steveâs let you in. This notion once more confirms the thoughts that have been occupying your mind for the last week; Steve is your one-way ticket to inclusivity.
You shudder at the thought and fake a smile before taking a large sip of coffee. The cafe is small, mostly empty, and your seat by the window gives you a perfect view of pedestrians struggling in the howling, icy wind. One year ago, you could never have imagined yourself sitting in a cafĂŠ with a cup of coffee clutched between your fingers, chatting with someone who you could potentially call a friend. The idea alone of being able to enjoy a warm mug filled with freshly brewed coffee wouldâve sounded preposterous to you.
There was no warmth with HYDRA. Only cold.
It takes the team three days to return from their mission. Three long days, during which you spend most of your time with Bruce in his lab, perched on a desk-chair with a book in your hands while he works on â actually, you have no idea what heâs working on. You quickly grow to become fond of him, because he doesnât feel the need to constantly fill the silence between you with empty words. His thoughts are coherent, focused on his project, and the lingo is too advanced for you to understand, which makes it easy to drown out. His inner monologue is quiet, except for a few angry words from the Hulk when Bruce becomes frustrated with his work, but that only happened on day two, and only for ten minutes.
Steve smells like gun powder and sweat when he hugs you softly against his chest after exiting the Quinjet. Natasha waves at you, and the smile that dons her dirt-caked face surprises you, but you return it nonetheless. Sam even ruffles your hair, causes a sound to escape your throat that you havenât heard yourself make in over a decade; a strange combination of a snort and a chuckle that sounds like music to your own ears. Your heart pounds again, but in a good way this time, because for a small moment in time, youâve managed to put the guilt on the back-burner. The roaring engine behind you falls silent at last, and nobody else visibly exits the plane before you make it inside. Â
âYou held up okay?â Steve asks as he follows you back inside the building.
You nod in response and shove your hands deep inside the pockets of your hoodie, âIâve been helping Bruce with his research.â
âOh, did you? Howâs it coming?â he asks.
His eyes sparkle like two tiny stars even through the exhaustion that nearly forces them shut every time he blinks. Heâs exhausted, you can tell, and you have to bite your tongue before you make a comment about the state heâs in.
âI mostly sat there while he did all the thinking. Turns out computer science isnât really my thing after all.â
Steve fights a yawn that threatens to overcome him, and nods, âyeah, I feel you. I can barely get the damn things to start. Iâve given up on technology.â
He turns back to face you when heâs come to a halt in front of his room.
âSorry I didnât tell you where I went,â he tells you, meaning it as he says it, âwe kinda left in a hurry, and you were still sleeping.â
âDonât worry about it,â you reply, âI understand.â
He quickly retreats after that, leaving you once again with nothing to do. You go back to your room to grab the worn copy of Pride and Prejudice from your nightstand and, after plopping down on your bed, flip to the page where you last left off. You read for a while, before the idea to make some tea with warm milk and honey pops into your head, and you skip along the hallway to the kitchen with the book securely wrapped in your arms.
Youâre surprised to hear Steveâs voice when you enter the common area, and a smile appears on his face the second his eyes fall on you. You raise one arm to wave at him, but a loud gasp and a large thud followed by the sound of breaking glass have you freezing on the spot before you can open your mouth to greet him at all.
Your head snaps towards the source of the sound, causing your neck to twist and crack painfully. Red, glowing eyes meet your large ones when you dare to look up at whoever made the noise, and the book in your hands falls to the ground with a loud bang that startles everyone in the room. You stumble backwards when you can feel the woman standing before you deep inside of your head, and you nearly trip over the rug when you instinctly try to get away from her. Frantically, you scramble to stop her from seeing more than sheâs already seen. Still, by the time you manage to build up a mental barrier to keep her out of your head, itâs already too late.
You havenât seen her before, and you canât remember for the life of you if the image of her has popped up in any of the Avengersâ heads. Your brain is mushy, images hazy as you try to focus on keeping the woman from digging around deeper. You can see distant memories of your time with HYDRA flash before her eyes, and the images blur with the present in a spasm that makes your eyes water.
Wanda Maximoff lets out a shrill, piercing shriek, one that chills everyone to the bone. Thor, who you didnât even know was there, is by her side before she can collapse onto the cold, hard floor, and Steve jumps up from his chair before you have time to register his movements. He grabs your arm and drags you out of the kitchen, fingers digging painfully in your tender flesh when he pulls you away from the scene. Sympathy fills Samâs dark brown eyes when you turn back around to look at him, and guilt roils in your stomach when the redhead sinks to her knees with tears streaming down her face.
Your arms hang limply to your side when you watch Steve pace back and forth around his room. Youâre waiting for him to yell at you, to tell you to get the fuck out of the compound and never return, but he remains awfully quiet. His silence confuses and unnerves you simultaneously.
His eyes, swimming with unimaginable depth, find your face while the scent of his cologne and pure testosterone invades your nostrils. Pressure clamps down on your chest, and the intensity of his gaze causes you to shiver. Never in your entire life have you wanted to read someoneâs mind more.Â
âAre you alright?â your head cocks to the side, mouth twitching while you try to find words.Â
You nearly gave that woman an aneurysm, and heâs asking you if youâre okay?
âYes,â you stammer, âIâm so sorry.âÂ
âWanda is telepathic,â Steve says, âshe has trouble controlling what she sees sometimes.âÂ
âLike I said, Iâm so so-âÂ
A soft exhale leaves your lips when Steveâs hands find their way to your shoulders, and your voice dies down in your throat when he bends down slightly to meet your eyes. Calloused fingertips penetrate the thin material of your t-shirt, and the warmth of his hands creates a buzzing sensation just beneath your skin.Â
âShe was in Europe, scouting the location of the mission with Rhodey. Sheâs been in Eastern Europe for a while, thatâs why you havenât seen her. I shouldâve told you about her.â
âWill she be okay?â you ask. You hardly recognize your own voice.Â
âSamâs got her. Sheâs stronger than she looks. Are you sure youâre okay? You donât look so good.âÂ
You donât know how to respond. You crave a cigarette all of a sudden, even though you donât smoke. Alcohol then, maybe, to numb down the prickling sensation of firing synapses and goosebumps that line your bare arms. Yeah, a good couple of shots of whiskey will do the trick. Not vodka though, you hate that stuff.Â
You bite your bow-shaped lips and inhale deeply. Steve is so close that you can feel his breath fanning across your face. Itâs wrong, being so near him after what just happened. Youâre on thin ice. It wonât be long before the entire team, undoubtedly informed by what Wanda just saw, comes barging into Steveâs room, ready to drag you away to prison or worse, put a bullet through your skull. You deserve it, you think, for what you used to do. For who you used to be. You almost want somebody to call you out on your shit, because then at least you wouldnât have to hide it anymore.Â
But seconds turn into minutes, and nobody comes. Itâs quiet, except for the sound of Steveâs breathing and the steady beating of his heart, and you realize when he looks at you with sympathy and sincerity that you hate yourself for lying. Itâs an ironic realization, because lying is like second nature to you. HYDRA spent so much time ingraining it into your brain that itâs become almost like a second language, a means of communication that flows so naturally that you donât even have an accent anymore. Itâs brought you many things, and ruined even more people.
Your hands are going numb from how hard youâre clenching them into fists. Steveâs thumbs are rubbing small circles on your shoulders, and it takes all of your effort not to shake them off. Youâre disgusted with yourself, bile threatening to rise to the back of your throat while the sensation of his warm fingers on you is the only thing left for you to feel. The world is dark and cold, but the heat radiating from Steveâs hands is just enough to stop you from getting frostbite. The concern is evident on his face, from the deep crease between his brows to the thin line of his lips; heâs worried about you, someone he doesnât even know. Someone he would kill if heâd met you under any other circumstances.
You want to go home, you think to yourself, but as soon as the thought appears do you smack it down with your fist. You donât have a home, you scold yourself, just like the doctors would tell you when you cried and screamed on the dingey operating table in the early days, when they didnât control you yet. When they still wore their special masks to stop you from controlling their minds so they could freely fuck with yours.
Itâs an icy reality, one that rattles you to your core every time it makes an appearance. Steveâs eyes are still scanning your face, which is twisted and contorted into a painful scowl before you even realize whatâs happening.
An inexplicable panic washes over you, heart jackhammering in your chest while your cheeks turn a sickly shade of pink. A bead of sweat rolls down your back, followed by cold shivers that envelop your skin in ice. The scent of laundry detergent and cologne hits you like a truck, and you have to bite your tongue to stop yourself from gagging.
âWhatâs wrong?â He asks, his voice melting and morphing into the sound of rain slamming against the window like gunfire.
âMy head,â you cry out in a desperate whimper, âit hurts.â
Steve forces your body down onto his bed, and while you begin to writhe in pain that causes white spots to dance in front of your eyes, he closes the curtains to keep the light from coming in. His mother had head aches all the time, and sheâd be in bed for days on end if they got bad enough. He remembers her clear as day, lying in bed with an empty bucket next to her on the floor in the dark, because the light hurt so bad it would make her vomit sometimes. Heâd tiptoe around the house because the sound of his feet creaking across the floorboards would pain her. He recognizes her in you, lying on his bed with your hands clutching the sides of your head.
âIâll get you some aspirin,â he says, quieting his voice, the incident with Wanda long forgotten as instinct takes over. Â
Tears blur your vision at this point, and it takes every ounce of focus that you have left to keep yourself from screaming out in pain. Aspirin wonât help, but you donât possess the capability to tell him not to bother. Youâve experienced this type of pain before, and have endured it without medicine each time. Many times actually; while you were forced to extract information from the people taken and captured by HYDRA with whatever means necessary. This time however, itâs come as a surprise and itâs caught you completely off-guard, although you suspect Wandaâs poking and prodding has something to do with it.
With all the strength you have left, you manage to pull the covers over your head, engulfing yourself in darkness and warmth to drown out your senses. The sudden darkness is disorienting, but you welcome it with open arms. Steve opens his mouth, but shuts it, and heads for the door without uttering another word.
All you hear when Steve exits the room is the sound of your former victims crying out in despair.

Sorry this was a day late, i skipped a weakend in the story so sorry. here it is and i hope that i will have the next chapter out faster then this one
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Alya slipped out of her room and stopped at her sisterâs room, opening the door and looking it, smiling as she saw them sleep as she looked into the room. Â I am never letting those two hang around Lila if I can ever again, I mean I trust her to look after them and she probably told them nothing but lies about herself. Â And I canât believe that Adrien thought we wouldnât believe him, but I can see why he was thinking that. Â I let both of them down and I let my sisters down! Â Her thoughts died as she felt a hand on her shoulder that caused her to turn to Noraâs smiling face and she sighed, now or never.
âCome sis, it wonât be that bad.â  Nora said as Alya smiled and sighed.
âI dropped the ball so bad sis, so bad.â Alya said as she walked towards the kitchen, keeping her hand closed as she walked, mentally preparing to exposed everything that she hadnât done, sure that her parents would be ashamed of her. As she came into the room she saw her father Otis seating at the table as her mother Marlena put the last of the leftovers away in the fridge and Alya coughed and they both looked up at her and Nora.
âSo whatâs wrong Alya?â Otis asked as Alya and Nora sat down at the table as Marlena walked over and sat down next to him.  No one noticed Alya slipped something onto the underside of the table and Alya took a deep breath before she started.
âI messed up, IâŚâŚ to start with about two days ago a liar that I trusted framed and got Marinette expelled.â Alya began and Otis looked shocked as Marlena gasped as Nora scowled.
âMarinette, your friend Marinette?  Why?â Marlena asked and Alya looked down. âAlya?â
âThey found the answer sheet for a practice test in her bag, then the liar said that Marinette pushed her down the stairs while they were walking to the principalâs office and then a necklace belonging to the liar was in Marinetteâs locker.â Alya said as
âWait the lockers, but they donât have locks!  And why didnât the teacher see what happened when she was âpushedâ?â Otis demanded as he stood up from the chair, a scowl on his face and Alya looked away.
âShe stayed in the class room, they were alone when they went to the principalâs office.  Then the lieing bitch took us to our locker room and her necklace was in Marinetteâs locker.â
âShe, the liar just walked after falling down the stairs to the courtyard?  After a fall like that youâd get some wounds.  And the nurse just let her?â Nora asked with a growl and Alya looked shocked before she started to look sick.  âWhat is it sis?â
âLila didnât even go to the nurseâs office, she just led us to Marinetteâs locker.â Alya said and at this Marlena gasped.
âWait, donât your lockers not have locks!â  Marlena said and Otis looked shocked.
âThey what?!  What kind of school is this?!â  Otis demanded and Alya looked down.  âAlya?â
âThatâs not the worst of it. I missed it when I investigated the schoolâŚâŚ about five years ago a student almost drove another student to take their own life.â Alya said and her parents paled as Nora started to growl. Â
âHow the heck did you miss that Alya?!â Nora asked angerly and Alya looked down and Nora winced. âSorry sis, I meanâŚâŚâ
âIt was kept quiet, IâŚ.. it was part of a settlement to spare the school and to try and make it better.â  Alya said and looked up at her parents.  âMy friendsâŚ..Marinetteâs family is going to sue the school about this, how he said she was expelled and well everything, thereâs going to be an expulsion hearing last I heard and no matter how it came out sheâsâŚâŚThey were talking about going homeschool definitely.â
âAnd you want to join them Alya?â Marlena asked as she reached over and grabbed her husbandâs hands as he looked thoughtful.
âHomeschooling?  Are you sure about it little sis?â  Nora asked and Alya nodded. Â
âThe way they were talking, they might close the school to go over everything and if that happens well they might send us off to any-school in the city no matter what we want or what kind of school it is, this way weâll be ahead of the curve and all.â Alya said with a nod.  âIâm setting up a private blog so that the other students can look over all the programs tomorrow.â
âYouâre setting up the blog because you want to make up for not believe Marinette right sis?â Nora cut in, causing their parents to look from her to Alya as they tried to understand what Nora had said.
âNot believe her herâŚâŚwhy?â Marlena asked and Alya looked down ashamed.
âI thought it was like what happened with Daisy and me mom; I just saw what I did in her actions.â Alya said and Otis looked at his daughter and released a sigh as Nora shook her head.
âOh Alya.â Otis said with a look of self-hatred that almost broke Alyaâs heart.
âDad, it wasnât your fault. And you were right about me and Daisy.â Alya said as she looked at him with a smile.
âSis, you gotta let it go. The way it came out, the both of you were having a bad day and you acted like that for about a month before dad talked to you.â Nora said as she smirked.  âAnd he only knew what to say to you because he had a bad first encounter too right?â
âOkay, Iâll admit to that. But homeschoolingâŚâŚâŚ how are we going to not have the twins know about it?â Otis said and then he chuckled at Alyaâs confused expression.  âWhat, are you thinking that theyâll not have problems with them doing it too?â
âFair pointâŚâŚ Alya are you going to the hearing?â  Marlena asked and Alya nodded.  âThen Nora will be going with you, sheâll ask for a copy of the minutes so the two of us can look it over and then weâll talk about it, how the other hand how about looking into school around here that might be a good place to transfer to.â
âOkay, okay.â Alya said and sighed.  Nora walked over and hugged her.  âSis?â
âLook Alya you made a call based on what happened to you.  Yeah it was the wrong call but everything that you knew said it was the right one to make.â  Nora said as she drew away.  âThis isnât gonna be the last time, and that you know it was the wrong call will help you a lot latter in life, trust me.â
âThanks.â Alya said as her parents got up and hugged her as well.
âSo, homework done, anything else that you need to do to get ready for tomorrow, anything we can do to help out?â Otis asked and Alya looked down and thought about it for a few seconds.
âFirst, I need to talk to someone without Lila knowing, Nora can you watch the twins tomorrow, I need to track down a few people.â Alya said and Nora nodded.
âSure little sis, Iâll be glad to, but Iâve got something I need to do on Sunday.â Nora said and she shared a look with her parents.  âYou head off to bed, Iâll be on twin patrol tomorrow.â
âThanks sis, I think I take a shower and hit the sack, is that okay?â Alya said and the other three stayed where they were until they heard the shower being turned on.
âYouâre going to talk to Marinette about this, arenât you?  And nothing we say will stop you right?â Otis asked and Nora nodded.
âYep.â  Nora said and Marlena sighed.
âMake sure you grab some of their cookies when you leave then, need some money for that?â  Marlena asked and Nora shook her head.
âWhy talk to her?â Otis asked and Nora sighed.
âI think there might be something off with the story Alya told us, that she left something out on purpose.â  Nora said with a shake of her head.  âI figured that the little girl wonât.â
âShe is honest.â Otis said as he got up, never noticing a microphone on the underside of the table that Alya had slipped there when no one had noticed.
As Alya got into the shower she removed an earbud as she turned off an app on her phone.  So glad I got that tech piece form Max, glad I commissioned it from him.  I gota send a message to Marinette about this, I mean I canât not tell her, I mean I never told them about the âAkuma Attackâ attack that fizzled out, nothing happened and the butterfly never even got me!  But if Lila is working with Hawkmoth then I donât know why she didnât try and grab one duringâŚâŚâŚ..because if anyone of us saw it then she would have been exposed!  That lying rat, I will do everything that I can to take her down! Alya thought as she gritted her teeth and finished undressing before she got into the shower and let the water flow over her.  âSomething else to deal with latter.â
Later on as she walked into her room drying off her hair she grabbed her phone and got onto her bed before she activated a texting App.
Reporterox; Hey girl able to talk or are you talking with your guest?
BakeDesign; Alya!! Itâs not like that!
Reporterox; Sure itâs not, not yet anyway.  Anyhow, my sis is going to come over on Sunday, I told them about the liar but not the swarm.
BakeDesign; You didnât you tell them about the red bugs that attacked?
Reporterox;  NoâŚ.. I should have but I donât want them to worry to much, say do you know where the weather girls will be tomorrow?
BakeDesign; Alya. Fine Iâll try and not say anything, I can keep secrets you know.  And I think Nadia said she saw them at the station sometimes on the weekends before lunch once.
âDonât I know it girl, donât I know it.â Alya said with a smirk as she typed another replay.
Reporterox;  Yeah, I know you can girl.  I guess I donât want to make more waves now then we need, I mean my dad when he gets bit by bugs is one thing but my mom, letâs just say Nora inherited her temper.
 BakeDesign; Ouch. Â
Reporterox;  Donât get me wrong, weâve all got problems but well, mom once turned the air blue when someone insulted dad.
BakeDesign; Okay I would do the same thing if someone insulted my mother or father.
Reporterox;  Yeah, well tomorrow Iâm planning to talk to Aurora about what you told me, find a way to get the information you got me to the others in the school.
BakeDesign; Make sure that you do it safely, if Lila figures out anything that might then youâll be her next target.
Alya looked at the text and a tear escaped from her eyes and she shook her head.  After everything that happened youâre still putting others ahead of yourself, girl you are too good for this world. And that bitch is going to be driven out of here on a rail if I have anything to
Reporterox; Donât worry, Lila said sheâll be gone for the weekend so Iâll head to the station early to talk to Aurora.
BakeDesign;  Good, Iâve gotten in contact with him and he wants to meet you all tomorrow so after lunch then, you see Manon is coming over tomorrow for me to watch so weâll have to go see him after I let her go, so after lunch if nothing happens.
Alya went still and released a deep breath and looked around her room before smiling that at least she might say goodbye to Trixx.  This is bigger than you Alya, this is about Paris. The best thing that could happen is that Mari and Adrien can keep theirs and keep fighting Hawkbutt, if I have to loose Trixx then so be it. Alya thought as she got her emotions back under control.
Reporterox;  Good girl, then Iâll talk to Aurora and swing around to help with Manon after, maybe a play date at the park before sheâs picked upâŚâŚ no the twins are staying home for the dayâŚâŚ. Long story okay and I donât want to talk about.  So Iâll see you tomorrow and tell you about it all, have a nice night because Iâm sure my dad will be here any minute.
âLights out Alya! Youâve got a big day tomorrow so make sure you have a good sleep!â  Otis said from the other side of her door and Alya looked up from her bed and smiled and sent off one last text as she got under her covers.
Reporterox;  he just gave me the bell, see you.
 OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Max sighed as he put away his dishes and finished cleaning up his dinner as he looked around his home as Markov recharged behind him.  I canât believe that I was so wrong about them. Iâm usually better but then that napkin thing was proof that I donât always think things through. Max thought as he finished. Â
âCome on Max, I mean you couldnât have known.  With all the data it stood to reason that we were right.â  Markov said and Max sighed as he walked out of the kitchen towards the living room as Markov took off and flew after him.  âYou canât blame yourself too much.â
âI know Markov, but I guess with what happened I was too sure of what we found to think we were wrong.  Thatâs a problem I have I guess.â Max sighed and shook his head.  âBut what really gets me is what they told us about the school.â
âI suppose that the Principal wanted to protect the schoolâs reputation.  But you would think that they would have tried to keep that from happening again.â Markov said and Max sighed as he sat down and grabbed a controller as he turned the tv and game system on, quickly starting one of his creations.
âI guessâŚâŚ but still.â Max said as he leaned back against the couch and sighed.
âI believe this is another reason your mother said that you need to talk to people more Max, at least Chloe wasnât involved.â Markov said and Max looked at his robot as he hovered there.  âI predict that she would have, whatâs the term, blogged about it right away.â
âMaybe not right away, but maybe.â Max said with a laugh.  I mean, maybe the old Chloe.  She has become a lot better, but then I did see her mother and I can guess where how she acted came from but man, I donât know whoâs at fault.  I never thought the fact that my father is dead would be a good thing, I can only know him from the stories mom told me, I can never know if how he would thing about how Iâm more brains then brawn.  Max thought as he called up a save file.  âI think maybe sheâs trying to be a better person, but I can kind of see where and why Chloe became who she is.â
âThat is still beyond me Max, I am getting closer to that level of thinking is still beyond me.â Markov said with a sad âfaceâ and Max smiled at him as he paused his game.
âI know you are Markov, thatâs something else Iâm proud about you, and then thereâs the face that you showed the inactive to investigate Lila on your own, Iâm so happy.â Max said and Markov âblushedâ.
âFrom the interactions with Marinette I knew that she wouldnât do something so out of character. I first went through the easiest thing I could figure out, Lilaâs fall.  I calculated with a seventy percent chance that Marinette tripped is the only reason Lila could have been pushed at all, but even that is suspect because of how Lila was able to walk away with the supposed fall.â  Markov said and then hovered to the left.  âOf course then there is the necklace found in Marinetteâs locker, that was very suspect, how could Lila have known the stolen necklace was there?  How could Marinette have known about it since Lila never mentioned it before?â
âA few things to mention to Marinette when I talk to her then.â Max managed as he realized all the unanswered questions that the principle hadnât even thought of because of the chaos of the event.  âI canât believe we missed all that!â
âDonât be too sad Max, nobody notice it even me; it was only after I looked over my files did I think of those questions.â Markov said and Max looked at him and his mouth dropped open in total shock.  âMax?â
âWhy didnât the principle or Miss. Buister call for the nurse, why didnât she come?â Max asked shakily and Markov looked at him and a question mark appeared on his face as he landed, a sign that he was trying to find out the answer in his data banks.
âI donât knowâŚ. I canât create a possible idea.â Markov said and Max went still as he thought of one reason but there was no way.  âMax?â
âNothing Markov, I just canât think of anything myself.â Max said before a ringing came from the phone. âMarkov?â
âThereâs a video call coming in Max, shall I put it on the tv?â Markov asked and Max nodded.
âDo it Markov.â Max said as he put down his controller.  A few moments later a woman with dark skin, brown eyes and short brown hair a low bun wearing a orange uniform with a patch of a moon before a yellow star.
âMom! Youâre back on earth already?â Max asked with a smile
âHey baby, Markov how are you two?â Claudie asked as she stood before a camera with
âQuite fine Claudie, a few problems here and there but everything is fine.â Markov said and Max looked at him as his mother gasped.
âAre they serious Max?â Claudie asked and Max looked at Max and then sighed.
âWhen are you able to come home?â Max asked and Claudie looked at him and he hoped that she didnât read into more then he wanted as he tried to keep his face expressionless.
âI should be home in a few days but if you need me to come I could see if I can get bumped up.â Claudie said and Max shook his head.  âAre you sure Max?â
âNo mom, it can stay as it is for now.  When you get back we will have to talk but what happened didnât happen to me.â Max said with a smile and she looked at and sighed.
âOkay, okay Iâll still try and get my post mission work done first, but I will let it take the normal course.â  Claudie said and looked at them with a smile.  âSo anything else, any new Akumaâs that push the understanding of science?â
âThe last one was yesterday, I think it was someone who either loved dogs or worked with them, he could control dogs and rode a giant one.â Max said and Claudie looked at him and shook her head as an old horror that he knew all too well came over her.
âYou were safe right Max?â Claudie asked and Max grinned
âWhen the attack started I was in my room, and I he didnât come over here at all, I think he might have been defeated near the stadium according to what Chloe posted.â Max said and Claudie looked at him and sighed.
âWith whatâs happening in Paris thatâs the best that I can expect then.  Iâll be back in a few days and weâll talk about everything then.â
âThanks mom, be safe and have a good day.â Max said and Claudie laughed a little.
âHave a great nightâs sleep baby.â Claudie said as she closed the video chat.  Max smiled and got back to his game was soon lost in the action.
âThat was better than I predicted Max, I was sure she would have tried to get here faster.â Markov said and Max nodded.
âMom promised me that if I said it was okay, sheâd not rush home.  And this way I have a few days to look over the data and give a good presentation to her about it.â Max said with a smile. This is perfect, this way I donât have to bother mom on the station and we can talk about what I learned and then work from there!  I just hope that those programs that Chloe found for Marinette are right for all of us.  I know mom fought against me doing that before but after what happened this might be for the best.  Max thought as he played his game, his mind trying to relax when a beeping from his phone caused him to look down and saw a message from Marinette.  âThis is perfect, Marinette is going to take me to
âI think Iâll stay home Max, if someone hacks into me then Hawkmoth could have the other Miraculous!â Markov said as he hovered around the room.  âOne stray Akuma and heâll know!â
âThen I guess weâll have to work on your security programs Markov.â Max said before a bit of music from the tv caused him to frown.  âAfter tomorrow.â
 OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Nathalie walked into the mansion and stopped before Gabrielâs office, sighing as she did so. Heâs not going to like this at all. Â But the plan I made is the best thing for everyone involved. Â She thought as she gathered her courage to knock on the door when a voice came from within.
âCome in Nathalie.â Gabriel said from within the office and Nathalie swallowed and opened the door. âHave you found my son?â
âI think so, after checking his friend Ninoâs place I then went to the next likely place he could be, the Hotel.â Nathalie said as she looked at Gabriel as he sat behind his desk looking at his computer.  âOnce there I found evidence that isnât a definite it is the best lead we have.â
âAnd what did you find that told you that?â Gabriel asked and Nathalie smirked a little.
âI overheard the Bourgeois girl talking to a staffer about a special guest, something about how he hasnât had to leave the suite.â  Nathalie said with a small smile.  âGiven how she feels about him Iâm positive that heâs there.â
âGood, once you can talk to him about this then it can all be fixed.â Gabriel said as he looked up and frowned at something before nodding.  âYes, that should work.â
âWhat should?â Nathalie asked and Gabriel smirked a little.
âThe secondary Lila problem.  Iâve scheduled a shoot for her tomorrow while you were gone, got back a reply and have just received another report from a special photographer who will be covering the shoot.â Gabriel said with a smirk that caused Nathalie to raise an eyebrow.
âAnd with everything thatâs happening you think pandering to Lila is a good idea?â
âWith this photographer, yes.  She will give me a perfect report on just what kind of model Lila is.â Gabriel said and looked down with a smile at another email that he opened and read the contests of.  âAnd heâs gotten to the last school sheâs been in, I should have a very revealing report on her by sometime in the next few days.â
âWhen did you send an investigator to look into Lila?â
âAfter she was in the mansion the first time Miss Nathalie.â  A voice form above caused Nathalie to look up and see Nooro hovering there with a scared look on its face.  âI begged Master to do that, she doesnât feel right.â
Nathalie looked at Nooroo for a few moments before turning to Gabriel with a frown.  âAnd you decicded to work with her after an empath told you she wasnât right?â
âAgain yes, but if it had worked out perfectly then we would have finally had what we.  Why the Dunpain girl alone might have won us the day!â Gabriel said with a scowl.  âBut of course that girl Lila couldnât even do that right!â
âThe mass attack didnât fail because of her, it was because I was week.â Nathalie said and Gabriel sighed and shook his head. Â
âShe planned the expulsion with my help, but it was her idea. We just tried to make itâŚâŚlarger.â Gabriel said as he looked up.  âPerhaps the next attack should be someone with a grudge against the  Bourgeois, someone who will cause enough chaos that it will let you get to the floor heâs on and get him out.  If you can talk to him about it, then maybe this nightmare will end without too much damage.â
âWhat about Lila?â Nathalie asked and Gabriel smirked.
âI expect that I will have all I need to fire her within the next few days.  I will of course have to explain to Adrien why I did itâŚâŚ I plan on telling him that I did it because I didnât trust both Adrien and the school to tell me about what has happened there.â Gabriel said and Nathalie looked down at her tablet before looking up at Gabriel. Â
âAre you sure thatâs a good thing Gabriel?â Nathalie asked and Gabriel looked up before looking down and sighing.
âNo, itâs not.  But that is the only way I can go and still have a chance not to destroy my relationship with my son.  And when will she get back from those negotations with our overseas distributers?â Gabriel asked and Nathalie looked confused before she realized who he ment.
âOh, her?  A few days if the airport does their jobs right.â Nathalie said as she looked up
âGood, once sheâs here I want her to talk about the lawsuit about Adrien.  I want her to go over everything that the courier gave to us.â Gabriel said and sighed and looked down.  âNothing is going to be the same no matter what happens, will it?â
âNo, Iâm sorry Gabriel but I have said before you need to make more time with him.â  Nathalie said and Gabriel sighed and shook his head. âGabriel.â
âMy Miraculous gave me empathic abilities that I havenât been able to turn off, even working here I still get traces of Adrienâs feelings about her absences and it magnifies my own.  The way Iâve been has been the only way I was able to stay partly sane and still be able to function.â  Gabriel reminded Nathalie who looked down.  âAnd remember what happened when you used it?  You were unconscious for the entire day when they overwhelmed you.â
âI know, I remember Gabriel. But there had to be a better way to do this that didnât sacrifice your relationship with him.â Nathalie said going over an old argument and Gabriel sighed and Nooroo floated lower, a look of sadness on his face.
âIâm sorry master, but all my holders always have had this problem with others emotions when others have feelings based around the same pain.â Nooroo confessed and Nathalie looked at Gabriel who only looked down, this old argument the three of them had was something that had been said many times during his campaign as Hawkmoth.
âOn another note, the Pack Leader was something else sir.  Shale I put it into the possible returns file?â  Nathalie asked and Gabriel looked up at her and sighed before nodding. âOf course sir.â
âOh, make sure you that you are notified the moment the paperwork about Miss Dupain-Cheng is underway, if the Lila situation is brought up I will of course deny everything.  The modeling contract was just to get Lila help in keeping an eye on Adrien, a mistake that I am paying for.â Gabriel said and turned to look at his wifeâs portrait.  I know that you will hate what I have become, but I only did this to get you back, once Adrien knows why I did this he will understand, Iâm sure of it!  I know it will take a long time to heal what Iâve done, but I know we can fix this! Gabriel thought as he looked away from Nathalie as she shared a look of long suffering with Nooroo.
âOf course sirâŚâŚ.. but could he have gone to her house to hide?â Nathalie said and Gabriel shook his head as he understood what she was saying.
âNo, from what I know sheâs just a school mate that is friends with that Nino boyâs girlfriend, beside being classmates they have no interactions.â Gabriel said and looked at her and held up a hand.  âThe reason that Adrien did that to Lila is because she was used by Lila because of something about him, no more than that, from what Chloe has said the two girls arenât friends, Adrien would not risk his oldest friendship by befriending her.â
âI will look into the school; something is bothering me about what has happened.â Nathalie said and looked at Gabriel.  âIf this plan fails and we canât find him before Miss Dupain-Cheng hearing Iâll head there, if she has one then Iâll head there and take away a copy of the minutes.â
 OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Alya walked out of her building and sighed. Â At least I was able to slip out before they woke up, now Aurora should be at the station so all I need to do is head there and my Ladyblog should let me into the station and talk to her, I hope. Â Alya thought as she walked through Paris, keeping an eye out for any sigh of Lila. Â For this to work she had to make it to the station without Lila having seen her, and given that she had said that she would be taking a weekend trip to help out a charity auction she had to hope that meant that Lila would be staying in, but given that she didnât know where Lila lived she had to keep on her toes, she couldnât mess this up.
As she moved through the streets she kept an eye out for anything that might hide Lila the false fox and within moments she had left the area and got on a bus, never noticing that Sabrine and her dad had been driving by, nor that Sabrina had noticed Alya.
âSo you want to be homeschooled Sabrina?â Rodger asked and Sabrina tore her eyes away from the bus and nodded at her father.  âIf somethingâs wrong with the class you can always transfer.â
âItâs more that I discovered something about the school itself dad, its bad.â Sabrina said and sighed. This is so not the place for the conversation but dad had to pull a late night and then this time was the earliest we could talk. And I donât want to talk while weâre moving.  Sabrina kept an eye out and notice that they were almost to the Seine where Chloe was waiting for her.  âItâs complicated and Iâd rather we not talk about it in a moving car.â
âThat bad then?â Rodger asked and cursed himself when he saw Sabrina nod.  âOkay, then lets talk about it tonight when I get home, but what sparked you finding out about it?â
Sabrina stayed silent until Rodger stopped the car and she looked at him with a hard stare before replying. âMarinette was framed and expelled.â
Before Rodger could react Sabrina got out and ran towards Chloe and the two walked off, Rodger staying still for a few more moemnts before he drove off, a scowl on his face from what he was told. Â
Sabrina walked on and kept her face blank and Chloe looked at her before sighing.  âSo you just told him about what happened?â
âJust the results, not the nitty gritty Chloe, he stayed out late.â Sabrina said and Chloe sighed. Â
âOnce the report crosses Daddyâs desk Iâm homeschooled no matter what, the only thing I can hope for is that Iâll be pick the program.â Chloe said as they started to hear music that grew louder as they walked closer to it.  âSometimes I donât know if being a mega bitch is worth it.â
âI know why youâll the way you are, you might not think like a lot of people our age but the core results of it is worth it Chloe, you just need to learn toâŚâŚshow it more like other people.â Sabrina said and Chloe sighed. Â
âWell, no more tears or jeers!  Letâs enjoy the morning and then lunch out, my treat Rina!â Chloe said and Sabrina laughed as they walked closer to the music.
Alya got off the bus outside the TVi building and took a deep breath before she prepared herself and walked in.  she moved towards the front desk and smiled at the receptionist.
âHi, I was wondering if Aurora, the Kidz weather girl came in yet today?â Alya asked and the receptionist looked at her and then at the computer.
âYes, she and Mirelle are due to record a segment today, but they havenât made it in yetâŚâŚ. And there they are.â The receptionist said looking over her shoulder and saw Aurora and Mirelle walk into the building talking.
ââŚ..so I was thinking, maybe we should get some new dresses for that party next moneth from Marinette if she can slip us in.  I mean I love her work and a nice dress my sizeâŚ. What is it Mirelle?â Aurora trailed off at how Mirelleâs face fell when she saw Alya and when Aurora turned she scowled at Alya as soon as she saw her.  âOh itâs you.  What do you want Alya?â
Alya winced, for the last few weeks Aurora had been a little short with her and Alya could figure out why now, she didnât believe Lila and with how Alya had put the interview on her blog she deserved it and more.  âAurora I need to talk to you, please.â
âAbout your new friend Lila, oh she wants to broadcast her recent activities?â Aurora asked and Alya glared back.
âI wouldnât help that liar if she was on fire!  This is about the school and Marinette!â Alya said forcefully and Aurora took a step back and Mirelle spoke up.
âSo what happened finally made you realize sheâs a liar then?â Mirelle said and Aurora looked around and Alya did as well and noticed the people in the lobby were watching them and Aurora grabbed Alyaâs arm.
âCome on, weâre a good hour early and we can talk in one of the unused dressing rooms.â Aurora said as she Mirelle led the way to an elevator and soon they were going upwards. âIâm sorry what happened to Marinette was what it took to have you see the light Alya.â
âMe too.â Alya said and stayed quiet until they reached a room with Aurora and Mirelleâs names on it. Stepping inside Mirelle grabbed a paper cup of water and gave it to Alya with a smile.
âHere, you look like you need it.â Mirelle said with a smile and took a deep sip of it and smiled at her.
âThanks, I did.  I canât believe that lying bitch tricked me so bad.  I canât believe that I didnât believe Marinette.â Alya said and Aurora scoffed and shook her head.  âWhat is it?â
âLook AlyaâŚ.. Marinette is a great judge of character, a really great judge.â Mirelle said and looked down before taking a deep breath.  âA year ago she didnât like a sub, and he was caught trying to steal the proceeds of a school function.â
âYeah.â Aurora said as Alya gasped.  âIf Marinette doesnât like someone thatâs a big red flag right there.â
âBut ChloeâŚ.. I mean she and Marinette are getting along better.â Alya said and Aurora shrugged and Mirelle giggled. âWhat?â
âMarinette hates what Chloe does not Chloe the person.â Mirelle said and shrugged.  âI know itâs weird but Marinette said it herself and well sheâs trusting her instants about people.â
âThatâs our girl but letâs not talk any more about our favorite designer and letâs talk about what you want to.â Aurora said and looked at Alya who sighed and looked down. âIt canât be that bad.â
âWhat if I told you that a few years ago a girl was driven to attempt suicide at our school by a bitch like Lila, that the reason more people donât know is because a deal was made that got rid of the principle who shield the bully?â Alya asked and looked up at Aurora who stared at her stormily and Mirelle who had paled in horror.
âThen Iâd say that if the school did that and expelled Marinette then I wouldnât trust our current principle.â Aurora said and Mirelle looked at her and Aurora sighed and shook her head.  âOf course when he didnât even react to the fact what happened to Marinette, that he did, was illegal but of course he didnât.â Â
âYeah, Kim sent me a text about that.â Alya said and then she looked at the two girls before her.  âBut Iâm here because I got a lot of information about home schooling programs from Mari, and I knew I had to get them to the other students at school and I knew you would be the best person to go to for help with that.â
A knocking at the door caused them to turn and Theo wearing a headset and with his eyes closed pocked his head in. Â âOne hour ladies, the makeup artist will be by in about ten minutes so finish up and get ready for work!â
âThanks Theo, see you in a bit.â Aurora said and smirked as Theo left.  âGood that heâs still doing that think after the last staffer was fired for accidently peeping.â
âYeah. And no Alya we wonât say any more about that, and donât spread it around okay?â Mirelle said and Alya nodded and looked around and threw her cup into the trash.
âWell thanks, Iâll send you the address for the website Iâll put the information onto and youâll get it to everyone who needs it?â Alya said as she stretched and smiled at them.  âIâve got to go, I promised that Iâd help Mari watch Manon today.â
âNadiaâs whirlpool, ouch.â Aurora said and even Mirelle cringed.
âDonât worry.â Alya said as she left.  âIâve got a lot of experience keeping track of kids like her.â

wings & the way down - part 2
Derek Morgan x Spencer Reid

Friday, January 3: Derek
Derek is playing it cool.Â
Or... he would be, if he could stop freaking the hell out. Whatever.Â
He wants to be there early, just in case, and he hesitates. He should grab his basketball â tryouts next week, he should be practicing as much as possible â but then heâd have to carry it around while they walk. He grabs his dog-eared copy of Slaughterhouse-Five instead.Â
Spencer seems like a reader. Maybe heâll be impressed. Derek doesnât have much experience trying to impress adorably geeky college guys, but that seems like a good start.Â
He looks at himself in the mirror one more time and thinks, I canât do this.Â
Then he shakes it off, like heâd shake off the nerves before a big game, and he gives his reflection a smile. Whatâs the worst that can happen, right? He embarrasses himself in front of a pretty boy, he avoids the park, he never sees the guy again. After the year heâs had, some good old-fashioned rejection would be a cake walk.Â
Playing it cool. He can do this.Â
He walks downstairs, locking up behind himself and leaving the spare key in its spot â its âhiddenâ spot, which is a totally obvious fake rock, but apparently here in the suburbs you can just do that sort of thing.Â
He walks, enjoying the sun, because January here feels like Chicagoâs April. Heâs not going to get used to this any time soon.Â
Yeah. This was the right choice.Â
You deserve to do it on your own terms, his mom said, when she hugged him goodbye in the airport. You can be whoever you want.Â
It didnât feel like he was trying to be someone else yesterday, though. It felt like he was being himself.Â
He didnât realize it could be easy like that, flirting with a guy, teasing and laughing and making Spencer smile. The stupid line came out like it was nothing. The fear only kicked in afterward.Â
Derek knows heâs charming as fuck; heâs been making girls smile like that since he was fourteen. And itâs not a skeevy thing â not even necessarily a sex thing â he just likes making people smile. He likes the way they stand a little straighter when you compliment their shirt, or the way they bring a hand to the back of their neck when you admire their hair, and the way one nice comment can startle someone right out of a bad day.Â
Speaking of.Â
Heâs walking into the park, now, and thereâs a girl walking toward him, blonde with pink streaks in her high pigtails, wearing thick neon pink glasses and several violently colorful patterns. She looks like Miss Frizzleâs ditzier sister. He kinda loves it.Â
âI like your glasses,â he tells her cheerfully, as they come face-to-face on the path.Â
Most people look startled, at first, when a stranger compliments them; theyâre caught off-guard. Spencer looked like a deer in headlights, yesterday, when Derek caught his attention.Â
Not this girl, though. Without missing a beat, she tosses back, âI like your face, sugar.â As their paths cross, she gives him a cheesy over-the-top wink.Â
He retorts over his shoulder, âI ainât that sweet, babygirl.âÂ
âI donât believe you,â she sing-songs, and heâs laughing as they both continue on their way.Â
Derek makes his way over to the same spot as yesterday, a round table between two curved benches. He pulls out his book and settles down to wait. Spencer isnât there yet (which makes sense, considering that âsame timeâ meant âtwo-ishâ and itâs more like one-ish right now) but there are two older men playing chess at one of the tables nearby. Otherwise, itâs quiet: two women jogging, a few families on the playground, a guy throwing a ball for his dog.Â
For a while, itâs actually a pretty awesome way to spend an afternoon. He doesnât really notice how much time has passed until he shifts, stretching some cramped muscles. Then he checks his watch.Â
They didnât really set a definite time, though. It was vague. Itâs not a big deal.Â
Twenty minutes is a normal amount of time to be late. Derek has pulled that move on more than one first date â which begs the question: is this a date? â but he didnât expect Spencer to be the type, somehow. Â
He starts to get anxious around half past. He can think of a dozen excuses Spencer might use, but theyâre all excuses heâs used himself, and they all boil down to I donât actually care.Â
He turns back to his book and tries to forget about the time.
At three, after re-reading the same page for the fourth time, he accepts that itâs a lost cause. He sets the book down on the bench and rests his face in his palms for a moment, taking a deep breath.Â
Fuck. He is so not playing it cool.Â
There was something about Spencer that Derek canât stop thinking about, and itâs not his bone structure or his eyes or the way his fingers looked as he fiddled with his chess piece. It was the way he blushed and stuttered, completely flustered and unable to hide it, and the way he brushed it off with, âIâm not used to being flirted with.â It was a genuine reaction. He was being honest. He wasnât trying to pose or posture or do any of the things Derek wouldâve done to protect himself.Â
It was the little crease between his eyebrows as he studied Derek intently â too intent to be polite â like Spencer was figuring him out, looking under the surface, seeing him in a way that people usually donât, because most people donât care enough to look. Most people miss whatâs right in front of them.Â
It was the way he sat, legs crossed, unpretentious and almost childlike.Â
It was different. He wasnât hiding anything. Derekâs been hiding a lot, these last few years. It was nice to be around someone who wasnât, and who made it look easy.Â
And yeah, it was also his cheekbones and eyes and fingers and smile, because Derek is only fucking human.Â
At quarter past, he starts to wonder what he did wrong.Â
Yeah, Iâm flirting with you.Â
It was like a free-fall, the pause after the words, that frozen moment of canât take it back now and this is going to change everything. Itâs the same hot-cold-terrifying-exhilarating shock he felt in the pause after he came out to his mom â same as the moment right before the jury gave their verdict â same as the moment he walked into school the next day.Â
But it was different, because Spencer smiled, all slow and shy. No betrayal, no creeping disgust, no pointed questions or even more pointed silence.Â
That easy acceptance took Derekâs breath away. It felt like freedom. It felt like the moment the planeâs wheels lifted off the tarmac, the sickening lurch in his stomach, the blaze of something like defiance as he watched Chicago recede into the distance.Â
Spencer smiled, and Derek felt like he couldâve ignored the laws of physics and flown away. If that was what âbeing outâ usually feels like, he could see why people might want to do it. The moment of free-fall â this is going to change everything â was worth it, for that.Â
This, though? Thereâs something cold and leaden sitting in his chest, dragging him rudely back down to earth. He should just go. This is an embarrassing amount of time to wait around for some random guy.Â
âTell me who I need to punch,â somebody calls. âA face like yours should never be frowning, sweetness.âÂ
Itâs the colorful girl from earlier, and Derek canât help but smile at the way she stomps over and sits down across from him, matter-of-fact and brazen like theyâve known each other for years.Â
âI was just waiting for you, babygirl,â he tells her, turning the charm up to eleven, and she rolls her eyes.Â
âPenelope. The pleasure is all yours.â She holds her hand out for him to shake â her nails have tiny daisies painted all over them â and Derek kisses it instead.Â
âDerek Morgan. Charmed, Iâm sure.âÂ
âSo whoâs the girl thatâs got you all tragic-looking?â she asks, and rummages in her massive bag for a minute before pulling out a tupperware of cookies. âWant one? Theyâre still warm. I was at my friendâs house, she needed some cheering up, we baked. I promise Iâm not some creepy creep whoâs going to lure you into their white van, oh my god, I just realized that Iâm a complete stranger, and this is totally weird! But â cookies?âÂ
âIâd follow you anywhere, babygirl. And I will totally take a cookie.â He takes a bite of melty chocolate chips and moans. âMarry me?âÂ
âAlas, your heart belongs to another,â she says solemnly. âI know that face. Spill.âÂ
âGot stood up, but...â Derek chews as slowly as he can manage. âWasnât a girl.âÂ
Heâs starting to get used to that free-fall sensation. Itâs not so bad this time around.Â
âOh my god, I shouldnât have assumed, Iâm sorry! Men, right?â She heaves a dramatic sigh, and Derek tries to hide his own quiet sigh of relief. âThe worst, I swear.âÂ
âNo biggie. Other fish in the sea, right?âÂ
âHave another cookie.âÂ
âWoman, you are a goddess. I am so glad I met you.âÂ
âIâm glad you met me too, Derek Morgan.âÂ
