Salt Lake City International Airport, W Terminal Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84122

The Salt Lake City International Airport is currently undergoing a $5.1 billion redevelopment program. Phase 1 opened in the fall of 2020, Phase 2 in the fall of 2023, and Phase 3 in the fall of 2024 (a tunnel to concourse B). I think Phase 4 is the final phase. They’ll be done in time for the 2034 Winter Olympic Games (they’re the host city).

The airport has one terminal, two concourses (A & B), and 68 gates. It is a major hub for Delta and offers nonstop service to international and national destinations, including Amsterdam and Seoul.

The new terminal looks beautiful and futuristic – complete with public art and wavy white walls that change colors. The seating is also wavy and white. They added new carpets, new seats, and lots of power outlets. The airport is smoke-free. Motorized walkways will help you get around. Wi-fi was free.

It’s also conveniently located, just five miles northwest of downtown. You can catch the Green Line TRAX light rail train to downtown and other areas of SLC.

The security line was short and I passed through without any issues. They had the body scanning technology. Laptops had to be taken out and put in a separate bin (some airports no longer require this).

There were three levels accessible by stairs, elevators, and escalators. They had shopping (clothing, makeup, technology, snacks, magazines, books) including MAC, LEGO, and COACH, Minute Suites (if you want to take a nap), and a wide variety of dining options (including Shake Shack, Burger King, Auntie Anne’s, Panda Express, Wow Bao). There was a store just for Utah Jazz fans. They no longer offer froyo.

I wish they had a few more local vendors like Beans & Brews, Bruges, and Vessel Kitchen. I could tell that the food options included healthy options like salads, juice, and acai bowls.

The restrooms were fine and the signs were clear.

Can we discuss how hit joel got in part 2??

Like, sometimes when I read your stories, I even struggle to decide which version of him I should imagine. Somehow he got even more huge (or maybe is the brown coat) and the haiiiiir urghhhh. Look I have some headcanons just with that man's hair and how long it got, if you ever want to ask. Also even his expressions changed, Idk if it's the beard of if it's the old man sadness that makes him have more of a somber look. Like, in part one he was like a tigger, with constant anger in his face, and in part two he's like a wolf that hides in the shadows of the forest but comes out when you need him. You get the vibes or am I just a sap?

Sweet cub, when I saw this pop up on my notifications on my phone, all I saw was "can we discuss how hit joel got in part 2??" and I thought... my god, are we really gonna do this? Do we have to? It literally brought me to my knees for days...

But, then I realized it was a typo, and you wanna talk about how hot Joel is in Part 2, and 100% I'm game for that!

The game makers definitely went hard in Part 2 when it came to Mr. Miller, starting with the opening scenes which take place sometime after Joel and Ellie's arrival in Jackson. It can't be too long, because Joel makes mention to her that the other citizens of Jackson are impressed by her - I'm guessing it's late summer 2034, based on clothes along and WHY is pixel man able to fill out a pair of jeans so nicely? He's made of pixels and he lives at the end of the world, it's borderline illegal.

He looks older and more distinguished even at the beginning of the game. Pixel man was eating well as soon as he got to Jackson. In the flashback scenes, which would have been from 2035 and 2036, Joel still doesn't look like the "old man" template - which means that after Ellie's return to SLC and she discovers what he did, it aged him. Losing Ellie and the loneliness he must have felt took its toll on him after that event. The next time we see Joel - in the timeline - is right before the event that we don't speak about.

But, even during the event we don't speak about, he looks so damned good. He's all bundled up with his kerchief and winter coat (I love the brown winter coat, too!) and he's a big man - that's evident in the basement, if you pay attention to the others. Joel and Tommy are both big men - look how many people it took to hold him down. When I describe him as being a "mountain of a man," it's no joke. We love a big boy.

I do agree with you on his face as well, and I think it comes back to Ellie again. I think after he loses her, he slips back into that protective role except from a distance. When they were living in Jackson from 2034-2036, he's relaxed and his face isn't hardened. Of course, he's still protecting her, but it's not a constant looking-over-his-shoulder protecting. After the SLC incident and from 2036-2038, he's constantly vigilant, hence his hardened appearance.

On a final note - Joel Miller is a vibe and we love vibing about Joel Miller. We can be total saps at the same time. Don't ever get me wrong, I love Pedro's interpretation of Joel, but to me, it's a different Joel - not a bad different, just different. Game Joel, from the look to the voice to everything - we have to constantly be reminded that he is made of fucking pixels. Ugh, and he looks so fine in jeans - wet jeans when we're lucky

I think the thought is that the delta center is a very temporary solution because many seats have obstructed views, so it’s no more ideal than mullet was except for being bigger.

Yeah, see, that's an opinion piece first of all. Secondly, I can't seem to find any source that says he's going to move the Utah HC to Draper except the guy in your opinion piece who's claiming that he wants to. From my limited research, it seems that the idea was, back in 2023, that Smith wanted to move the Jazz to Draper in, say, five years if the SLC government didn't pony up to pay part of the bill. With the Utah HC involved, there's going to be a lot more issues with just up and moving the team. Additionally, on the obstructed views - it sounds like they're going to renovate the Delta Center soon to un-obstruct 5000 of those seats. However, what I'm reading is also that Utah is the favorite to host the 2034 Winter Olympics, and that, as part of that, Utah is going to throw serious money into building a lot of winter sport arenas, hockey likely being among them. It sounds like they expect the Utah HC to move into that Olympic hockey rink once it's built, as there's no reason for it to sit empty, and then the Delta Center can go back to being just for basketball. (As we've seen with multi-function arenas such as MSG, ice quality suffers if you're hosting multiple sports at similar times.) That being said, I don't know if Smith is in on that plan. We'll have to see there.

We’re still here. Arrow kept popping stitches so he burned it closed. I don’t remember the actual word. Pretty sure she was ready to kill him. They got into a little yelling match about how he had to do it, gave him no other damn choice, she’s too careless, blah blah blah. She can’t really walk well yet, but she tries. I guess the bullet was in her “god damn bone,” I heard him yell that when she got up and fell over. 

He’s leaving to try and find food tomorrow. Thinks he’s gonna be gone for two days at least. Told me I’m in charge and wished me luck. 

June 19th, 2034

Arrow taught me how to braid. Let me practice on her. Her hair is so soft and long, she’s got that nice light orange-red, not like mine. It looked terrible, so she took it out and let me do it again. I don’t think she’s eaten since yesterday. They’re just stashing food for me. I know they are. Even if they won’t tell me. It’s bullshit. I’m not the one with a bullet hole in my leg. She looks so tired, under her eyes are all purple. I refused lunch hoping she’d eat it. She didn’t. 

June 20th, 2034

Joel just walked in. He’s…covered in blood. Won’t say whose or what’s. But he got some food. I claimed the beef jerky and the peaches. First thing he did was check Arrow’s leg, he had medicine too. I guess that explains why she was shivering in the middle of July. Don’t know how I missed that. He kicked me out of the room so they could talk. I couldn’t hear anything because he was talking too quiet. Which is not like him. At all. All she did was nod. Maybe he found somewhere for her to go. When I woke up in the middle of the night he was lifting her head and putting his jacket underneath and she was whimpering, still asleep I think. I stayed still so he didn’t know I was awake. He went outside after, don’t know why. I fell asleep before he came back.

June 22nd, 2034

Sooooo, we’re leaving tomorrow. There isn’t enough food to scrounge up and we have to move on. He got the rest of what was in the area already. I don’t think she’s ready, she’s still having trouble standing. But it’s this or starve I guess. 

It’s so fucking hot. I don’t want to walk out there. I’m covered in mosquito bites, I just want a pair of fucking shorts, literally anything but jeans. Joel just keeps telling me to stop complaining. Arrow says I should be able to whine. I like her rules better. 

June 23rd, 2034

We left the hotel but we didn’t make it far. She tried though. We only made it a few miles in five hours and Joel was getting annoyed. But like…not his grumpy annoyed? His “for your own good” annoyed. Sometimes I don’t know which one is worse. By noon he told her to jump on his back and she refused. But a little while later he said “We ain’t taking another step unless you get off your feet.” And she said “Well, that’s an oxymoron.” And he said “Don’t get smart with me, just hop on before you get us killed.” 

She did, put his backpack on for him and he carried her for hours. They didn’t look like they hated it. I think he likes her. Which sounds crazy, but I think he does.
