"What was it like, seeing the sun for the first time?"

As the words left your lips, the arms wrapped around you tightened their embrace. Despite the warm breath against the nape of your neck, you kept your eyes focused on the faint embers in the air above the bonfire, fading into nothingness with each crackle of the flame.

"Like a dream." Minthara whispered, her voice laced with the tiredness of a long day making it deeper than usual.

That long day has been stretching on for weeks so far, as luck would have it for your group of tadpoled misfits.

Her body was pressing against your back, her frame slotting perfectly into yours as if it was her rightful place, and yet from the way she held you each night, you had no doubt that she'd claw her place into your side and carve it if she had to.

"What kind of dream?" You wanted more.

"The kind where your entire cage shatters and you're akin to a lost dog in the wild after years of believing in a false reality." She remained composed as she spoke, "Lolth, her devotees aren't interested in the world above, the surface world served as nothing but an endless source of slaves to fall prey to our webs with each careless endeavour into the underdark"

Suddenly, the burning wood and dancing flames didn't seem so interesting to your eyes anymore.

You turned around, her hands grasped at you for a split second before letting go when she saw you weren't pulling yourself away.

You were met with the same hardened expression you grew so fond of since you first saw her face.

Now fully facing her, with a gentle touch, you held her cheek in your palm as you moved your thumb gently across her skin. 

Her expression faltered.

"You're free now, from Lolth, the absolute and the cage." You whispered softly.

With a shake of her head, she rejected your comfort.

"One doesn't realise they are in a cage until they break free. I might have gotten rid of one, but there is no proof I didn't just step into another."

You were about to interject when she hushed you with her thumb pressing against your lips, swiping at the soft flesh as her hand copied yours and held your face.

"As a mortal, my existence is limited, therefore my worldview will always be limited. Just like how I used to think the underdark was all there is to the world, I was proven wrong and if I begin to think the surface is all there is to the world, I will be proven wrong again."

Minthara trailed her hand from your face to your shoulder, going around to your back before dipping even lower.

She continued, "we are not omnipotent, we will never be. We are ruled by our own experiences and biases. And I accepted that reality when I was met with the blazing sun."

You inched closer to her, legs tangling together under the shared blanket.

"....I know you miss the underdark, you hang fluorescent lights around the camp, your tent also resembles it a lot."

There's a half smile to her lips as she reminisces about her previous home, the shining city of Menzoberranzan. The glittering stars above did resemble her home in some twisted way of fate. 

"Maybe part of me is still in denial that the sun will always be there in the morning." She looked back at you as she spoke those words.

Extending the same olive branch a second time, you hoped to lessen her heavy burden. "After all of this is over, maybe we can revisit it together this time."

"There's no need" she shook her head again, "knowing my house they'd be on the hunt for me the second I take a step below the surface" She scoffed, "as they should, if they didn't I'd start thinking they grew soft and weak after my departure." 

You buried your head in her neck in defeat. Your lover's stubbornness was a double-edged sword. "Are you sure you'd be content with that? Never seeing the underdark again?"

Caging you in with her arms, she kissed just below your ear in a rare moment of affection. "With you? I'd be content with the depth of seven hells."

Okay can I just say that you will never in your life be with someone who is both as lovingly gentle and violently protective as Karlach

I have a headcanon that, since Karlach was sent to Avernus at a fairly young age, and hasn't been out for very long at all, that you are her first relationship

She's heard all the horror stories from you and some other omegas about creepy alphas who only care about hooking up, and will take any opportunity or push any boundary to get what they want

And being one of those creepy alphas is the last thing Karlach wants

So she is so gentle with you, almost as if you were made of porcelain

She's so subservient to your every need that someone who didn't know better might assume you're the alpha

But she just cares about your well-being so much

On the other hand, though, she is extremely cautious that none of those creepy alphas get anywhere near you

If she sees someone checking you out, flirting a little bit, or god forbid trying to take you out anywhere, she's at your side in an instant

She usually doesn't even need to say much, her appearance alone is intimidating enough

A tall, muscular, pissed-off tiefling, covered in battle scars, carrying a great axe on her back, and literally on fire is usually enough to scare creeps off

But for those that don't get the hint, she isn't afraid to get her hands a little dirty

And then she's immediately at your side again, cupping your face and asking if you're okay as if she doesn't have blood dripping off her knuckles

She just cares so much that you never feel objectified or pressured by anyone, especially her

When your first heat comes, she, respectfully, tries to stay as far away as possible

She doesn't want to take advantage of you in such a delicate state

It's not until one day, after a long day of adventuring, she comes back absolutely DEVASTATED to find her stuffed bear, Clive, is nowhere to be seen

For a little while, there's this torturous little game you and Karlach have to play

You want to be around her, but just being in the same tent isn't enough. You want to touch her and feel her body all around yours

But Karlach on a normal day is too hot to touch, and horny Karlach? Yeah, she's nearly set the tent on fire a few times now

She makes peace with it, with not being able to touch you, as terrible as it is for both of you

But you guys find a few... workarounds...

But oh man, the day that Dammon fixes Karlach's engine

No amount of pulling the blankets over their ears could help anyone keep the noise out

It isn't until day 3 that Shadowheart finally gets fed up and casts a silence spell over your tent

But Karlach can't help it, it's what an entire life of not even being near an omega does to her

At the end of your heats, when your brains are a little less foggy, she's back to giving you everything you could ever need

Water? Food? Maybe a small healing spell to helping your aching body? She is an aftercare goddess

That's all she cares about, anyway. In her mind, her pleasure is always second to yours

After the tough hand you've been dealt in life, her one goal is to make you feel special and taken care of

And, for someone as new to being in a relationship as Karlach is, she's doing a pretty damn good job at it

Going crazy thinking about the complexities of Donatello and his relationship with his emotions in tottmnt just auuaua !!!!

Like, he's outwardly and unabashedly kind in this iteration and I'm SO here for it !!! And it doesn't diminish his ability to be snarky and witty, he still throws jabs at his brothers, but I feel like this donnie is a return to form in the sense that the center of his character, the motivation for his intelligence and penitent for creation, is kindness- more importantly, empathy.

routinely he is described as thoughtful, 'non-threatening', and usually very placid; we see mention of his temper when his computers are messed with, but he's extraordinary patient- polite, even- with the killer robot chasing him, subway security, and the deaf conductor, all while under high-pressure stress. When confronting the Mechazoids for the first time, he keeps them at a distance and straight up complements the engineering ingenuity! Same when confronting bishop in the subway! He talks enthusiastically, respectfully, with her about her system setup! His first instinct is to diffuse the situation, approach her with humility and establish common ground. Dude like even when running away from the Mechazoid he was always thinking of the people around him.. he was telling everyone to get out of the way, waited for cars to clear (his brothers just straight ran through traffic and jumped over moving carsss), tried to usher people away from train cars he was fighting in, etc. And in the narrated recaps between episodes, donnie is the first brother to consider bishops motivations in an empathetic manner, "maybe she has a tragic back story". Of course that serves as thematic foreshadowing buy he was still the first to offer the kindness of reason to bishops character, maybe there's a reason she's doing this, not just anger that she is.

Not to mention he full ass built a robot to protect his brothers and took the extra time to program in impeccable manners. just for funsies heheh. eueueu Metalhead my beloveddddd😭🙏💙💙💙💙

ALL THIS and yet still, in episode 10, donnie considers himself non-emotional. He says he's 'all left brained' and implys that he operates differently from his brothers who he considers more outwardly emotionally expressive. And yet, in the same episode, he spends a majority of it comforting wingnut. He lends his ear and speaks to her kindly even when her panic exasperates their situation, he doesn't get mad when she freaks out, he takes the time to talk things through with her and make her comfortable whenever able. Even when they think Leatherhead has unmutated, he's sad but tries to put himself in her situation and understand her actions. HES SO SWEET IT HURTS DUDE ❗️❗️❗️ main point being, I dont think he considers himself emotional because he operates on a mode of empathy that is reason driven. He's emotionally logical, of that makes sense. It shows an INSANE amount of emotional intelligence and maturity, I just don't think he understands that because to him, this is logical, and his brother are anything but.

For a majority of his life, the only other people he has to compare himself to are his brothers. When up against anxiety riddled Leonardo, chronically angry Raph, and Mikey's carefree disregard, of course he sees himself and goes, 'ah ok. I must be less emotionally prone because I don't react like they do to these situations'.

I think he just understands the whole social song and dance of understanding better than he thinks.

I know the whole thing with tottmnt is the aspect of unreliable narration, but even then! Like if Leo wrote donnie like this then it probably because he routinely displays this kind of understanding behavior. Plus idk bout yall but I kinda consider the events of tottmnt as like a blurry semi-cannon? I think there are nuggest of truth in there, the broad strokes yk? Like the flood arc referenced 'the bishop situation' like it was a thing that actually happened, albiet in passing, and not just something to poke fun at Leo. It's got legs, there's ideas there to work with ajaja
