Fun little thing for Talk Like a Pirate day, did all the main CapCrew folk as their humanoid counterparts! So many old faces made new. Probably won't do much with them, but it was nice to do something with them all again. And who knows, they might find a place in a world as NPCs.

I absolutely adore your thoughts on Buggy and Sea Shanties. So I'd like to share an inspiration and a thought, Tale of the Shadow by Sail North.

What if that's the treasure Buggy seaked when he was younger and just as the lyrics he found it but the crew he put together was not loyal like his cannon lot so they where killed but the Shadow took a liking to Buggy after he survived. I'm imagining him flirting with the ship helped in that regard. Buggy captain of the Shadow.

Okay but that would he SUCH a good take. ((I love Sail North honestly you are fueling my obsession yesss)).

Consider maybe instead of Buggy actively SEARCHING for it, he stumbled across it. And the Shadow being less of a Prize To Be Sought and more of a grim omen, a harbinger of sea stories, among the many Buggy knows by heart.

His first crew, the ones cobbled together so soon after his first abandoned him - I'm honestly thinking they were sort of thrown together and Buggy took charge as he tends to do. And the rest fall in line at a surface level but only insofar as completing their goals. Buggy knows, he can see it, but really the only people he's ever had in his life who took him and his wants semi-seriously are dead or dead-to-him at that point. He doesn't care. It's a means to an end, he tells himself. He's using them as much as they're using him - no, he's using them more! In the flashiest of ways!!

And then they happen across a fog. And Buggy can Feel something out there that's Looking and Searching and Calling. He is absolutely not about that, no sir. He gives the orders to sail westward, navigating by the stars and not the log pose which is wobbling steadily to that Other Presence. The crew, if they can even be called that, are not happy with the order.

Buggy by this point is young still, maybe sixteen thereabouts at most, and he is the youngest on the ship. And the smallest. And seems the weakest.

He is not, the group learns terrifyingly quickly. He is thin, fast, skilled with a blade and smarter than he pretends to be. He's got experience under his belt and on his side against opponents bigger, stronger, better than him - and he's used to being outnumbered too.

The fight takes time and Buggy soon gets hit with a lucky shot, sending him sprawling to the deck and nearly crushed beneath ratty boots and cruel laughter. He is panting against the wood, straining to get up, to move, to fight or flee-

And he freezes.

The Presence is back and it's stronger than ever, right on top of them. It's only his resistance to Conquerors Haki which keeps him from so much as fluttering an eyelid under the sudden pressure choking the men and women alike on his ship.

Not many have the nerve to approach my hull with so little awareness.

Buggy goes still at the soft voice while the other's scatter, scramble, search for the interloper. They shout demands for the person to show themselves. Buggy merely pushes himself up enough to bow properly. That is no person, he knows, not in the way these bozos think.

There's a sudden whirl of air, rigging springing into motion, ropes and sails unwinding to snatch bodies and cut voices into choked gargling frenzies.

Buggy does not move. His head aches, his body sore, but his mind is racing over contingency after contingency. He needs to think, needs to figure out a way to survive this unholy clusterfuck of a situation-

He freezes as he catches a black intangible hem from his periphery.

A hand touches his head, soft despite the carnage swaying above by their will.

So small you are, little star, and yet so brightly you shine in the gloom...

A hand takes his chin, tilts his head up. Buggy squeezes his eyes shut.

Look upon me, star child.

"N-No," he declares decisively, though not impolitely. "It is disrespectful for mortals to meet the gaze of Spirits."

Ohhh, how bright you are, little star. What say the waves to my hull, what say the winds to my sails, that by which you are known?

He thinks for a moment, carefully, then answers. "I am called Buggy."

Oh, my sweet, my darling, how interesting you are, how clever, how wise for your sweet short years. By what means have the Fates forged a mind and soul like this? Such a gift to my heart, so intriguing.

"... what..." He licks his lips. "What say the sea, the winds, to that which you are called?"

... I am called many things, my junebug. But now? This Era knows me as The Shadow... but you knew that, didn't you?

"..."

Hm~ Yes. You will do nicely.

"What- aAA-!!"

Shhh, sleep, my sweet, let my love fill your pores and lungs. Dream sweetly under my spells and carry the blackened blessing of my Self with you into the Beginning and End. You, sweet Buggy, are destined for great things. I will carry you there, so long as you carry me in turn...

Buggy screamed into the wooden planks as blackness swallowed his senses, burning and baptizing his cells. The only thing he was aware of was the soft hand in his hair, the whispered assurances like dripping ink, and the pain.

Buggy was swallowed whole on a ship in the fog, cradled by a faceless being and guarded by corpses.

He awakens some time later on his ship, battered and damaged, dirty but warm under the warm, blazing sun. The rigging is damaged, the bodies gone. Buggy is alone, but, he finds sometime later, not unscathed. Staring back from the backs of his hands are two inky stylized emblems. The eyes stare into the air and space, offset by his skin.

He shudders.

He takes to wearing gloves.

He doesn't notice until weeks later that sometimes his shadow will smile at him, warm, loving, intelligent.

He learns more in the ensuing time, but not a word of it is ever breathed to another person.

One does not speak of deals with the fae, after all.

She saw Yasopp’s brows furrowing, and as though sensing the need for a distraction, Makino watched as he rose to his feet, although her relief at the interruption was short-lived, seeing the grin shaping his mouth, and it wasn’t her observation that allowed her to see what was coming now, her eyes widening as his grin did, before he raised his voice to ask the Kuja,

“Do you ladies know ‘Moored to Her Port’?”

Kikyo looked up from where she was sitting with Sabo, Ace, and Koala. “We do,” she said, with a look at her sisters, their grins widening at the mention of the shanty.

But as though what was coming wasn’t mortifying enough, “We know it, too,” Sabo said, with a nod at Koala. “We sing it in the mess all the time. Iva loves it.”

“I know it,” Ace said, and to Makino’s absolute horror, added, “It’s Pops’ favourite.”

Looking up from his plate, “What’s the song?” Luffy asked around his mouthful of food.

From the deck above, Shanks was smiling. He hadn’t taken his eyes off her, and Makino wondered if he could tell that she was considering jumping ship.

“Wait, I think I know this one,” Nami said. “But by a different name.”

“‘Naught but Dregs’, right?” Usopp asked. “I’ve heard it, too.”

“As have I,” Robin said.

“What song!?”

“Yasopp,” Makino warned, and saw them all look at her, intrigue brightening their eyes, but then couldn’t have kept a straight face if she’d tried.

She didn’t dare look at Shanks, but Yasopp had no such qualms, as those sharp eyes lifted to his captain on the deck above, his grin widening as he asked his audience, who’d all turned to look at the same thing.

“Do you also know who wrote it?”

I'm not sure about your last post : do you want people to ask about your AUs or to talk about theirs ?

In case it's the second I had a whole AU with pirates DSMP : Wilbur and his crew (the L'Manburgians) are pirates looking for freedom, stealing the navy and the rich to protect their freedom. They are pursued by Dream, captain of the Navy (first fight breaks out when Sapnap, one captain, lost a ship). The L'Manburgians are state's enemies but the King, George, actually quite likes them and always makes it so they can escape. Things reaches a statu quo with Dream getting more and more frustrated by his inability to keep the Sea safe (especially bc his King doesn't seem to take the threat srsly).

With Eret (former pirate)'s help, Dream manages to take down L'Manburg ship and take every pirates prisonner. George steals Dream's keys to break the prisonner out, not thinking farther than he wants them out and not argue with Dream.

Dream take the betrayal terribly and ask for a break, which everyone (except George) knows mean things got too far. Punz goes with him, Sapnap stay to keep George and the kingdom sage. Eret gets the noble place in the King's court they asked for against L'Manburg betrayal.

Wilbur spirals after the loss of his ship and Eret's betrayal, meaning a loss of everything he believed in. He tries to restart the ship's legend, but new recruits (Quackity) propose themselves as captains, showing off their good allyship with the great pirate Schlatt. Wilbur loses the election... and Q too, short circuited by Schlatt who bribed the majority of the sailors.

The man almost kills Wilbur and Tommy to avoid any regrets from the crew (creating ironically immediately regrets in the crew), and they run away.

Schlatt keeps building up his float, becoming a gigantic threat on the see against George's Kingdom. Sapnap and Eret tries to coordinate each in their own way a defense (Eret tracks back Wilbur and Tommy and offer them a refuge, which Wilbur accepts very reluctantly and with copious amount of insults/Sapnap is always on the naval front). Tommy, finally saying in one place, manages to contact Tubbo, who tries to keep him updated on Schlatt. Annoyed by Niki's opposition to killing children and women while razing town, Schlatt make her walk the plank, darkening his crew's moral.

Tubbo's betrayal is swiftly paid for when a dark silhouette steal his letter and send him drowning in the sea. Luckily for Tubbo, Niki wasn't far, clutching to the ship to stay alive in the small boat Fundy had hidden down until they reached the coast. She saves him last second. He reveals to her what he knows about Wilbur and Tommy and they go there, both suffering terrible illness and unable to report for now. Tommy is very worried but Eret covers the doctor.

In a bold move, Schlatt attacks George's land. The army is floored by the pirates' efficiency and Sapnap came to the horrific conclusion that the pirates know too much : they must have had insider info which means there's a traitor in the King's Court. And indeed, he finds George, in full happy tears reunion with Dream (who got a knife in hand but it's unclear whether he'd do anything). Sapnap immediately defends his King, who can't understand Dream would betray them. When Punz arrive to help Dream, Sapnap and George are forced to run away.

Wilbur hears the commotion and Tubbo wake up just long enough to confirm Schlatt had plans to take the kingdom for himself. Wilbur, still shaken by his own doubts, goes out decidely. He immediately falls on Techno (The mysterious letter stealer ! He was on the search for his mate's son who disappeared mysteriously with his ship. As of now, he was a threatening pirate enrolled under Schlatt to find the best clues). He forcebly make himself Wilbur's guard at least until his mate arrive. Tommy follows.

Eret is coordinating the war effort as best as she can, Sapnap having left to check on George. Still, Schlatt forces are too big. Then arrives Wilbur who rallies first his own crew then Eret's men to fight against the pirates. Recognizing the legendary captain, many pirates rally him. Schlatt's men are beaten, the castle secured back by Eret - Schlatt dies on his ship at the news, cardiac arrest Q could have healed if he so wanted. As people are celebrating, Wilbur is intrigued by the silhouette of Dream who guides him in the caves under the castle. There, he finds a ginormous amount of dynamite and no Dream. By activating that trap, he'd clear the castle of the map and liberate the sea from all the laws the kingdom applies on it. He hesitates (the reader won't know what he would've chosen) : but the explosion happens anyway. Only a fragment of it though, as if the line between the main explosive and the rest was cut. Tommy and Techno find the pirate under the rocks, unconscious.

Eret is elected to be the new Sovereign as they were the most present. Sapnap and George are in exile. Dream and Punz are still around, dangerous threats both against the kingdom and the pirates. Q took back Schlatt's place and is fighting to create his very own name out there. Wilbur, after being unconscious several weeks, wake up but has no memory of anything. Tommy thinks getting back on a ship will help him gain memories back and Tubbo greets them on the new "L'Manburg".

There's another arc behind but idk if that was even interesting here lol

I know there were A LOT of liberties taken with canon but I just typed that resume out, I'd hope the final product is more polished. And I'm not sure if total plagiarism is good, but on the other hand I don't like how some characters relations/interractions appear ? So, still in progress. But there's at least one AU ^^

Anyway, that was an interesting read! Can never go wrong with a fun pirate themed re-write! That said, nothing wrong with taking liberties with canon either. Why not, after all! But even if you kept it closer to canon, I don't think it would really fall under plagiarism since it's more of an adaptation, but hey im no lawyer!

Anyway. Them vibes. You mentioned readers, so i'm envisioning this in a fic format; it sounds like a lotta fun :D and a lotta work : D but hey I believe in you. If there's anything I understand, it's the AU grind~

Tho me being drolo pilled, so I can't help but wonder what Dream's goal is, if we don't have the whole revive book thing and the prison to head his Plan™ like in canon.

I also like the detail of Wilbur getting amnesia in place of dying. Sure it's a cliche but whatever, it can be fun. There is angst angstier then death sometimes ;p

I love this because it's both excellent art and extremely accurate to our characters. From left to right:

*Kataryna the mage & airship pilot (who is Better Than You)

*Gu'Yassa the orc butler (who deals out tea and violence)

*Dart the detective ("magic, monocles, and last year's lavender coat")

*Shanty the robot / magician / river pirate / cheerful menace. (She's my character. No one is surprised.)

The ship is Lucy (in the sky, with dragon scales).
