Turbo Prop Racing, also known as Rapid Racer in Europe, is a PlayStation video game released in 1997 by SCE Studio Liverpool, formerly known as Psygnosis. The game stands out for its high-speed racing action on water, featuring propeller-driven boats, a unique concept in the racing game genre at the time.
Notable for its cutting-edge graphics, the game showcases detailed water effects and dynamic wave patterns that directly impact gameplay. Players encounter a variety of courses, ranging from tranquil lakes to challenging rapids, demanding mastery of speed and control to navigate effectively.
One of its defining features is support for the PlayStation's DualShock controller, utilizing analog sticks for steering and the rumble feature for immersive feedback. This early integration demonstrated the controller's potential for enhancing gaming experiences.
The SCE Studio Liverpool release offers diverse modes of play, including championship, time trial, and multiplayer options, catering to both competitive and cooperative gameplay preferences.
Personally speaking, while many have lauded this game, I find it to be among the least enjoyable boat racing experiences I've encountered. Despite its speed, innovation, and impressive visuals and graphics (not really sold on the latter anyway), the fundamental issue lies in the nightmarish control scheme.
Some may argue that the controls are merely sensitive and that those who struggle are simply not adept enough, but this oversimplification overlooks the frustration of being a mere spectator as your boat careens uncontrollably from side to side.
It's disappointing that some players extolled the virtues of this game without truly delving into its depths. Had they invested more time in playing it extensively, they would have grasped the sheer frustration and exasperation of attempting to regain control amidst chaotic maneuvers. This frustration compounds on higher difficulty levels, particularly on narrow, winding courses (well, most of them are like that actually, lol).
In short, while I acknowledge the game's positive aspects, such as its innovation, it seems unjust to glorify it as a masterpiece that was merely challenging to master back then, and now, as a classic.

‘WipEout Pure’
[PSP] [UK] [MAGAZINE] [2005]
[SCE Studio Liverpool] expressed a desire to return to the handling of Wipeout 2097, while also make various changes to the track design. Most notably, the pit lane for recharging shields is removed, with players instead being able to replenish energy by absorbing the currently-armed weapon. The return to the style of past games and streamlining of the gameplay makes up the "pure" essence of Pure.
Wipeout Pure uses the Wi-Fi feature of the PSP for multiplayer racing. The added features of the European version as compared to the US version of the game has unfortunately caused the two versions to be incompatible for the purposes of Wi-Fi multiplayer.
The game introduces players to the FX300 Racing League, announced 25 years after the sport came to an abrupt end as a result of a controversy that led to a hiatus for nearly 15 years. It also introduces two new teams to the series, each from very contrasting backgrounds: Harimau, an Asian humanitarian organization which started operating in 2177; and Triakis, an arms-manufacturing conglomerate which looked to Anti-Gravity racing to exhibit their products. The league takes place in the man-made island of Makana in Hawaii. ~Wipeout Central

Sir Banastre Tarleton aka “Bloody Ban, Butcher, and “The Green Dragon” by Joshua Reynolds
This portrait shows the flamboyant and controversial figure Sir Banestre Tarleton, a cavalry officer best known as commander of the ‘Tarleton Raiders’ during the American War For Independence. It was painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds, the leading British portrait painter of the 18th century.
Banestre Tarleton (1754 – 1833) was born to a wealthy family in Liverpool. Aged nineteen, he inherited £5,000 pounds from his father and gambled it away in a year. His mother then bought him an officer’s position in the army. In 1778, now a lieutenant colonel, he took command of the newly established British Legion that was comprised of American cavalry and light infantry who were loyal to the King. They soon became known as Tarleton’s Legion, or Tarleton’s Raiders. The most controversial of their activities was the Battle of Waxhaws Creek in 1780, when Tarleton’s troops forced Colonel Buford’s Continentals (rebel Americans) to surrender. The ferocious nature of attack earned him a series of unflattering nicknames: Bloody Ban, Butcher and The Green Dragon. The term, ‘Tarleton’s quarter’ was also used to indicate excessively heavy casualties. The battle became known as the Waxhaws massacre or Buford’s massacre. It pointed to the difficulty for the British Army of trying to win hearts and minds while making progress on the battlefield in what was often a civil war.
After the war Tarleton returned to England and served in Parliament. He died on January 16, 1833, and was buried in the churchyard at Leintwardine, England. While portrayed by many historians as cruel and inhumane, one cannot deny Tarleton his success. He excelled at quick-strike, surprise attacks that overwhelmed his enemy. Until Blackstock’s and Cowpens, his methods were brutally effective against South Carolina patriots.
