I wish my brain would let me play video games again without a care
Now I'm like "no I can't bc I'm wasting my precious free time. I can't reason using my day off to play video games when I could be using that time to do literally anything else" like fucking come on

helloo since we're on the topic: top historical fiction (or adjacent) ? can be any time period I just really love your taste in shows/games/etc and am always on the lookout for history inspired media !
thank you!!! im rly glad im like. inspiring other ppl to engage w things im insane abt hudofajsdfdassfsad. anyways. i will probably expand that list bc i literally forgot every single thing i ever read. also i havent watched that many movies so far
ancient times: i havent really watched a lot of movies/series set in ancient times so far :(
rome HBO (2005-2007) (tv series) - OF COURSE. i personally think its one of the best series ever made. they combine political, miliatry history with the lives of every day people in an incredible way. they never let you once engage with the series through modern lenses. according to my teacher (a historian, archeologist & self described 'romaphile') its incredibly historically accurate, mostly the clothing, set designs, characterization, military practices, etc. except for the things they straight up made up, of course.
i really enjoyed gladiator (2000), i think its a masterpiece.
prince of egypt (1998) i guess?
all the asterix movies of course, all the animated ones and most of the live actions. but i wouldnt really call it historical fiction
ok i havent actually finished watching it for now but sebastiane (1976) - an erotic, x rated, gay interpretation of the martyrdom of st sebastian. its in latin also.
wait i cant believe i forgor about assassin's creed odyssey - so far the only one ive played. its so fun and incredibly immersive visually. especially pour moi who cries into the pillow about how ill never experience the ancient world. also you can b a faggot which is always fun. i have things to say about their portrayal of same-sex sexuality and slavery in classical greece but i get why they did that considering its supposed to like. appeal to a lot of people, and a more "historically accurate" portrayal (for example of pederasty or how common slavery was etc.) would b v difficult for a lot of their target audience. alas.
medieval and early modern era:
the name of the rose (1986) - my medieval history teacher literally showed us bits of this movie to teach us about monasteries and monks fhdosiasdjasd.
the borgias (2011-2013) - incredibly messy, lots of political intrigue, and so so fun to watch. about the history of the borgia family. filled to the brim with drama.
the three musketeers (1993) - my favorite adaptation, also coincidentally the one i grew up on. casting tim curry as richelieu was genius. he slays so hard.
i also like bbc's the musketeers (2014-2016) - a neat little series. very fun and entertaining to watch.
outlaw king (2018) - like i dont think most ppl heard of this movie. its about robert the bruce's fight to reclaim the throne of scotland. starring chris pine
vikings (2013-2020) - its fun. i havent watched the entire series tho. dont expect anything resembling historical accuracy
the northman (2022) - you will see something resembling historical accuracy
mihai viteazul (michael the brave) (1971) - a fun movie. very much romanian propaganda tho.
1670 (2023-) - such a fun series!!! incredible cast, shows respect to the actual history and the lives of historical people. really cute and funny.
caravaggio (1986) - a biopic about caravaggio.
wait i also forgor about pentiment - an intriguing, immersive, and incredibly beautiful video game! it has a lot of 'the name of the rose' vibes, with it being a medieval murder mystery taking place in a monastery. its incredibly touching and made me cry, and in the last few years i very rarely cry. also im 99% sure its an indie game? go support the creators!
vaguely-medieval/early modern fantasy:
mirror mirror (2012) - a retelling of snow white. a very fun movie imo, with incredible costume design. julia roberts plays the evil queen and she SLAYS. armie hammer is unfortunately in that movie.
stardust (2007) - one of my fave movies growing up. more modern-inspired but still.
the green knight (2021) - controversial i know but i actually loved this movie! i liked it both as a standalone movie but moreso as a 21st century adaptation to sir gawain and the green knight.
galavant (2015-2016) - !!!!!!! one of the most series ever! they manage to tackle such difficult concepts and conversations with a hilarious wit. so fun to watch. i listen to a lot of the songs still, and rewatch every once in a while.
disenchantment (2018-2023) - very fun to watch, especially the first season.
i also really liked the novel uprooted by naomi novik. its a polish-inspired fantasy.
modern era:
killers of the flower moon (2023) - of course. a masterpiece
aferim! (2015) - a romanian movie set in 19th century wallachia, about two officers, a father and son, who were sent by a nobleman to retrieve an escaped enslaved romani man. a lot of the people in the comments were calling the movie humorous and funny, maybe im missing smth (as im watching with subtitles n dont understand the original language) but it was a very difficult watch for me??
the handmaiden (2016) - need i say more
black sails (2014-2017) - a prequel to the famous novel 'treasure island'. not an easy series to watch. incredibly good.
the favourite (2018) - need i say more pt 2
the rabbi's cat (le chat du rabbin) (2011) - animated movie set in early 20th century algeria. a rabbi's cat learns to talk overnight.
the nice guys (2016) - a fun murder mystery set in the 1970s
o brother, where art thou (2000) - a retelling of the odyssey set in the southern us in the 1930s
victor/victoria (1982) - set in early 20th century paris. julie andrews pretends to be a man and takes on a job as a drag queen. extremely fun, extremely gay movie.
lady chatterley's lover (2022) - very much porn for moms but it was a nice watch imo
amulet (2020) - set in like. idk. sometime in the 20th century. this is a horror movie, deals a lot with misogyny, sa, and so on. i really like it, personally. a lot of people, mostly weird men, dont tho.
the great (2020-2023) - i have mixed feelings about this show. on the one hand, its really fun to watch. on the other hand, its basically ofmd for girls who have public mental breakdowns whenever someone claims corsets were oppressive. and theyre so weird about russians, jesus christ.
disses:
domina (2021-) - i just couldnt get into it, esp since i tried right after finishing rome hbo. it was kind of silly, and not in a good way. takes itself wayyyy to seriously.
i didnt like spartacus (2010-2013) - the dialogue was almost grotesque and the editing, especially the transitions, straight up killed me
damsel (2024) - holy fuck what a trainwreck of a movie. absolute waste of angela basset and robin wright. the only good thing were the costumes.
lancelot du lac (1974) - i just didnt like it at all. couldnt get into it. i guess it was way too french and artsy fartsy for me. a movie that was trying to say both too little and too much at the same time.
i didnt rly like bram stoker's dracula (1992) - i mean. it was a fine movie. it was definitely not the godfather. the movie itself was meh. the visuals tho? absolutely stunning

Sooooooo… go a the end if you want the question.
Im rewatching Merlin with a friend of mine. (I Watch merlin all the time, only, I watch my favorite episodes to make sure I don’t cry, like a sane person)(and with my friend we’re only to episode 7, because when we see each other it’s not the first thing we do ( I know we socialize, gross))
But like anyway, my friend is really a wise person, and like she make me see things that i don’t see and vice-versa.
Like she have that filter in her mind, it’s really magic, and I’m just here to make her see the merthur when it’s like : so you know how to walk on your knees… And she’s here to make me see like. Yeah it’s the first time in your life that you say something against your father, and that is just because it’s Merlin that presented him to you, fucking DADDY ISSUES .
So in clear we both ship it just in different levels?
( when I say she have a filter, I’m going to give you an example: she used the word orgi in a daily basis because it doesn’t just mean what you think it is, and people been looking at her a part of her life and it took me hearing her to explain to her that it didn’t just meant a mass of people)
But anyway SHE is wise because in Merlin bbc ep where there is Edwin she made the comment how Merlin just drop everything to run for Edwin, and how Arthur just run in the other direction. And she asked why Arthur doesn’t go look in Edwin assigned chambers, when it is this late, like Merlin the clever person he is does?
And like… What or more Who he was looking for? If he was too looking for Edwin why he didn’t communicated with Merlin ? I already looked there, go look there… Why doesn’t he use his wisdom like he did for knowing it was the same affliction of Morgana??? Was he going for guards? No that wouldn’t make sense, when Uther die he just call for them. Was he going to look for Morgana? No he would have send someone for her… and if a dad is dying aren’t suppose to stay by their side???
So the question is Wtf Arthur doing running like that in the Episodes where the plot is that the man that is suspicious is, in fact, the really mean guys that got Ptsd in is childhood because of, surprise, King Uther. And want Revenge?

oh god i watched love death robots when it first came out because of all the tumblr hype
no one mentioned all the r18 explicit scenes and other stuff that would have gotten paragraphs of tw
i legit thought i watched the wrong show
some (a very small portion) of it was interesting but the overall experience was miserable
even now im still confused how it ever got that hyped on tumblr of all places
so glad to not be the only one feeling this way
SO HAPPY TO SEE SOMEONE ON THE SAME PAGE GLAD I'M NOT INSANE
I consider myself to have a high tolerance for the most part in terms of sex scenes and trigger warning-worthy things but Christ the way this show treated women was largely abominable. (The fact that the astronaut woman and the female pilot, the only female leads who felt like regular-ass protagonists and human beings, came so late in the series, makes me think the only reason they were in there is because someone complained about how the previous episodes were.) I liked the comedy episodes written by John Scalzi the best, and some of the twists in other episodes were genuinely interesting, and all the animation was good, but so much of the writing ranged from "mediocre" to "I'm going to kill everyone in here and then myself". And I completely agree with you about being baffled on how this got hyped on Tumblr - how is the website where people go as far as to say shit like "you have to write wlw fanfiction or you hate all women no exceptions" also reccing this show with no caveats??? Two sides of a goddamn razor's edge.
I gotta go back to watching BBC Ghosts and Dead Boy Detectives and The Good Place and all my other shows that actually treat women like people and feature queer characters that aren't "we threw in exactly one set of lesbians and one of them is evil for no logical reason and also we sexualized them in a male gaze direction even though this is an episode about women fighting back against their abusers". Sigh. If anything this is just making me want to work more on my fantasy/sci-fi animated short film scripts that star women who aren't treated as sex objects.

time for me to post my bullshit ramblings on the new doctor who episode in no particular order like a maniac lol
(SPOILERS AHOY, DONT CLICK ON THE READMORE IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE EPISODE)
obviously seeing tennant and tate back in their roles is so cool, they feel exactly as they should, it doesnt even feel like 15 years have passed when you watch them its great
DONNA CANONICALLY HAS A NONBINARY DAUGHTER AND IM SO FUCKING HAPPY ABOUT THAT
NOT ONLY THAT BUT HER ALSO BEING PART OF THE METACRISIS TIME LORD SHIT IS SUPER COOL
lmao im not even joking when i first saw the meep™ i literally thought "aww it's so cute i hope it doesnt end up being evil" and LO AND BEHOLD
OH MY GOD DAVID TENNANT JUST SUDDENLY PUTTING ON A FUCKING JUDGE WIG AND DOING A COURTROOM SCENE WITH THE MEEP AND THE WRARTH WHILE DONNA AND HER CONCERNED FAMILY JUST OBSERVE
also i think the wrarth voices are so funny cause in the trailers they're like *auurhghghg scary monster sounds!!1!* but in the episode they just sound british like every doctor who space alien should
i think the new TARDIS looks really cartoony and i think it's kinda fun, idk if ncuti is gonna end up with this TARDIS set (i'd imagine the bbc doesnt have the budget to make a whole TARDIS set for 4 episodes then just make a new one lol) but i think it looks kinda plain at the moment? idk if they added some chairs and bookshelves n shit like the capaldi one and make it look more lived in overtime it might be one of my favourites just for the whole classic who vibe it has. either way it's perfect for david he gets to run around like a little kid in there and thats all that matters lol
also tennants new suit looks so fucking good and honestly wish he just had that in series 2-4 instead of the brown suit
i think it's so funny how literally not even 5 minutes after entering the TARDIS donna just fucking spills her coffee on the console and the whole thing just explodes and goes to shit immediately lmao
ALSO WE'RE GETTING A FULL ON TENNANT/TATE ADVENTURE NEXT WEEK???? AM I IN 2008 OR 2023 I CANNOT TELL ANYMORE TIME HAS NO MEANING
im really hoping we get to see whoever the fuck neil patrick harris' character is in the next episode, im 99% sure it's gonna be the celestial toymaker but only because the doctor who youtube account kept posting celestial toymaker clips and i think they're being cheeky bastards lol (/positive)
(/sarcasm) i cant wait to see all the queerphobic assholes shitting on this episode for having the few pronouns/binary lines in it and going "dOcTor wHo iS wOkE nOw yUcK" even though doctor who has been progressive since literally 1963 with the daleks (which got a fancy new colourization that i need to check out still but thats a whole OTHER THING LOL)
oh yeah and david's acting is really fucking good in this, like when he thinks wilf has died and he just sorrowfully says "i loved that man." like MY HEART CANT TAKE THIS
plus when he thinks he has to sacrifice donna to save everybody, holy shit his perfomance is incredible
Tumblr media
this is just a me thing but seeing a doctor who episode live as its broadcasting is so cool, i've been watching this show for like 8 years (i think??) and i usually just ended up finding it on dailymotion or some shit like a day or two after the episode aired so i'd always be late for it lol (btw for the people coming after me i dont pay for disney+ at all lol) so watching it the at the same time as everyone else was very cool especially since i nearly slept in through it lmao
anyways i think thats all if i remember any more things i'll add em in lol
plus some bonus ramblings before the episode aired

Ok i need to go insane about an almost forgotten TV show for a bit
Its BBC's Atlantis, If you know it im in love with you kissing you on the lips. if you dont, let me convert you.
Heavy spoiler warning if you care abt that, but its only 2 series, watch it this afternoon and come back :D
First for all my Trekkie pals, Alexander Siddig is in it, he plays King Minos. beareded, a wife guy, kinda a dilf. pop off.
Secnd, this is again playing to those who care about Actors and Celebs- ANYA TALOR-JOY plays Cassandra. Yes, a young Taylor-joy playing the casiical Cassandra. the prophet noone beleves. shes fucking amazing (duh) but you have to stick aroung till S2.
Ok and now moving on to the actuall show, our mc is a himbo 'real worlder' Jason (Of the Argonaut) sent back in time to the ancinet city of Atlantis. He then, runs naked across a beach, steals some clothes from fishermen, fights a two headed dragon, is chased by Palace Gards, and meets Pythogoras
"The triangle guy" yes. the one from first year maths. and his Roommate Herculease.
this all (and more, lots more) happen whithin the first 10 mins of the first epp.
If you are thinking about Merlin in this, i dont blame you. It is a blantet Merlin profit chaser and had a lot of the same people work on it.
BUT
IT HAS A CANNON GAY RELATION SHIP
yep.
those of you who care about mythology stop reading now (if you havnt allready) beacuse the ship is Pythogoras and Icarus.
Even as im wrighting i cant beleve what im saying, BUT IT IS.
Icarus son od Deadalus, is young, dumb and SO sad and Gay for PYTHAGORAS the maths guy. It is the friends th=o lovers, betrayal to love, story arc that you dare not beleve is cannot BUT IS (in the very last epp., BUT THATS MORE THAN YOU MERLIN BITCHES GOT)
Im gonna come back to this post (not that anyone is gonna read it) when i think of more to say but this show is INSANE and i love it watch it NOW NOW NOW
love and peace, have a great night x

i get your dw feelings! ive been wondering/accusing myself of nostalgia, or if i just used to watch in a different way, if im too invested now, overscrutinising etc
but i feel you totally about the super clean feeling. i keep comparing ruby to rose bc the actresses were both 19, right? i keep trying to figure out if rose really looked more 'real' or if thats just nostalgia talking. maybe she read the same way to a 26 yo in 2005 as ruby does to me? maybe thats just how fashion goes? i dont know, but it all just feels too Pretty. grime it up
not like this isnt also true to an extent for other eras. i mentally grime up 13 a Lot, and like clara, or 12, or 10, or whoever, theyre all pretty, right? it's tv, and it's not grimy tv, of course theyre all gonna be made pretty! i already missed some of that lived-in-ness with 13s era but it feels even more sterile now
or maybe im just being nitpicky, like you said. ive been thinking about how the more time you spend thinking about something the more complaints youre gonna have, right? ive got more complaints about 13s era than i do........anything else ive ever watched maybe, but thats because ive spent so much time thinking about it because i love it, you know? it's kind of paradoxical
but i also totally feel you about wanting someone new. like every artist has their fixations their obsessions their things they make art about, and that develops also over the course of their life, im not saying rtd has uninteresting ideas when it comes to dw, but i do feel like we've kinda, you know, got the picture now. and i so desperately want to see what doctor who could become with some new artists with their own obsessions and experiences and visions at the helm, you know? i feel a little like ugh we've DONE this, even if we havent done literally exactly this bc rtd dw in 2005 is not the same as 20 years later, but like. some fresh blood you know? we've heard of these guys already, we've seen their visions. get someone new. do something completely bonkers and get a woman to run the show :P
idk, just wanted to say that. i feel you 🤝
Thank you so much for taking the time to say all this!! It feels nice to know I'm not totally alone or crazy!!
It really is hard, especially with RTD being back, to not fear that nostalgia is just taking over the brain and of COURSE we think about this damn show too much!! No doubt about it!
Which honestly does make me wonder how those who don't obsess think about this season so far; ohhh to look at things with fresh eyes...
Every time I think about bringing in fresh blood I think about Jamie Mathieson coming in and writing Mummy on the Orient Express, Flat Line, and Oxygen -- three of my all time favorite episodes of New Who -- and I'm like?? Where'd he go?? Those episodes were so wonderful and felt so fresh and I think about them so often?? Why is he not back??
But I also 10000000% agree that there's literally nothing stopping them from getting someone other than a white man to run the show. I promise you BBC, the world will not end!!

ok final thots. thank you to those who supported me liveblogging both those episodes i love doctor who so much. i also unfortunately love being a critic
all three dw episodes seem to be engaging heavily in this new folklore-ish lean that was established in wild blue yonder - the goblin stealing children, the bogeyman, the fiddle battle with the devil. im interested to see where it goes bc i think its a compelling throughline and one thing rtd lovessss is creating episodic stories that resolve into an overarching narrative. I do think DW seems to be pivoting towards its more family-centric roots, which is fine i guess. I am aware im not the target audience of doctor who but i do love her for her darker moments so ill always be a little sad
i think its kind of funny that the bbc lied in their marketing a little? like space babies was not about the first 5 second butterfly thing and the beatles were barely in the devils chord. actually really funny i literally cant be mad
ncuti is literally electrifying every time hes on camera. i believe he's the doctor 10000% and he really brings that combination of whimsy and sadness to the role that makes me want to see more of 15. ruby i find....less compelling. at least as of rn. I think the main point of interest for her is the mystery of her origin but as a character she's kind of a non-entity in the same way i found many of 13s companions. she almost reminds me of early season Clara in that she's just kinda Mystery Twee Girl but Clara ended up as one of my favorites because she became the most sick and twisted woman on planet earth over the course of 3 beautiful seasons so I have not lost hope yet.
However I do think the companion-doctor relationship is the thing the entire show runs on and I'm not, AS OF YET, super compelled by what 15 and ruby have going on. Hitting a lot of the same notes as rose/9 without the emotional follow-through and DISAGREEMENTS that really made that relationship interesting to watch. I think that's the main thing is I need to see some kind of conflict. 15 is a lot more open than any previous doctor by a LONG shot, presumably because of 14s off-screen therapy LMAO. There's a lot on the table up front in terms of backstory and personality (which i get helps set up new fans) but that also means a lot of the narrative tension created by that kind of inside information is lost. We need something else to replace it and make that dynamic interesting! For me doctor who maintains its narrative momentum through character relationships, i'm not particularly interested in just seeing Space Adventures without that kind of meat behind it idk. it makes them feel a little hollow to me
what else um. jinkx monsoon ate obviously. music is the meaning of life thank you for acknowledging this doctor who.

omg you have such good tastes in shows!! i loved fruits basket as a kid, but i am 100% watching 10 things i hate about you and flower of evil!! you have won me over... im not a big manga reader but tsuiraku jk to haijin kyoushi sounds so good too!!
i love the way you describe the media you watch!! do you have any favorite movies or shows, aside from supernatural of course!!
thank you so much my beloved 💞 it’s my pleasure seeing that you may like what i recommend!! and please if you ever watch them, tell me what are your thoughts on it.
as you may know, supernatural is my favourite show ever but aside from that, i do have other favourites (i’m taking the liberty to include kdramas as part of the shows).
to begin we have vincenzo. i’ll forever asset that it’s one of the best show ever made. there’s everything you could ask for : an amazing cast, a beautifully written scenario and breathtaking shots/filming. this kdramas is about a korean-italian mafia lawyer visiting korea for some business and end up fighting against a powerful conglomerate alongside his new friends. i can’t begin to explain why i love this show so much but it’s really worth a watch.
then, there’s bbc merlin. i first watched it as a kid and i was completely obsessed with it (i wouldn’t sleep so i could watch the episodes on tv) and i still love it very much. the story’s about merlin, a warlock, who has to fulfil a destiny with the help of arthur but magic isn’t accepted so merlin has to hide his powers. i really love the show it’s so good, full of drama, friendships, angst, comfort, fun and love.
next, we have hymn of death. this one is a sad one and had only 3 episodes. it’s based on the real and tragic love story between a married stage drama writer and a soprano while korea was under japan’s occupation. watching hymn of death is an emotional journey and you can only feel bittersweet happiness as you wish their love story turned up better.
i’d like to make a special mention to fleabag. it isn’t really a favourite of mine but i really enjoy it. it’s a real pleasure to watch as it’s funny but at the same time deep, kind of crazy and there’s some great characters. it has a lot of dirty jokes (i mean a lot) and to be honest it’s usually really not my thing but in fleabag it’s more embarrassing than anything else.
now, for my favourite movies :
little miss sunshine. a beautiful movie that warms my heart in a way few pieces of media can. it’s also my biggest dose of serotonin.
top gun : maverick. i made a post about this one before but i’ll just say that i’m such a big fan of tom cruise, the top gun serie and the father-son relationships that this movie was made for me.
parasite. what can i say other than this movie is a masterpiece. the first time i watched it i had no idea what could happen and by the end of the movie even less so. i don’t think we truly understand how crazy this movie is. i love being alive right know because i’m able to watch parasite.
and finally, back to the future. an old time classic that feels like being enveloped by your favourite blanket while being on your couch on a sunny day, laughing without a care in the world. to me, back to the future is a synonym to comfort.
thank you so much for this, again, amazing ask! you’re truly the best. it must be kinda long as i got excited hahaha. also, i can’t thank you enough for liking what i’m rambling/ranting about. please give me your opinion on the question or on anything else!!

12.) if you have spotify wrapped, were there any songs related to your F/O(s)/selfships in your top 100? if you don't, were there any songs you listened to a lot this year because they remind you of your F/O(s)?
Tumblr media
THANK YOU PIDGE <3
i do so ill give you some more !!!
36: strawberry mentos ! this song is THE olive/four song... i didnt even associate it with jelly babies for a while but AGH ITS SO CUTE!!
Tumblr media
55: angeleyes! this one is a azi/sera/crow song and it HURTS MY HEART!! CEASELESS PAIN AFTER S2E6......
Tumblr media
77 is i bet on losing dogs! i dont really have a reason for this one but it reminds me of alec. pathetic little wet kitten. i love him so much
Tumblr media
17.) how do you and your F/O(s) spend new year's eve together? do you celebrate in any way? do you have any important new years traditions? (if you celebrate the new year on any other point of the year than december 31 this question also applies of course!)
Tumblr media
mm ive never thought about it before!!
olive probably doesnt celebrate with either the doctor or the master, but i think she'd go out and party with jack, tbh! he shows up like "girl im getting you OUT of rural maine lets GO!!"
i think delilah/harry and alec/eden probably watch the bbc firework show on tv! delilah and harry have champagne and cuddle, and alec and eden do the same after work! eden also spends a lot of time listening to alec be mad over fireworks and honestly? she cant blame him!! i imagine when mathias is born, though, they give him a lil party with sparkling apple juice then pass out at 10pm
campbell is throwing a massive party for EVERYONE in the ward. maple helps him set up decorations and, for those who arent watching new years celebrations on tv, he's hosting a late night radio broadcast! lots of music, requests, and audience participation! "WE'VE GOT ANOTHER RESOLUTION FROM THE AUDIENCE... FRANKIE IN WARD 4 WANTS TO- AH- CANT READ THAT ONE, FRANKIE!"
he absolutely counts down to midnight too and you can BET that man is getting his new years kiss!! maple will have been at his side the whole night helping run the show so they deserve a lil kiss <3

today i watched the first five episodes of cbs ghosts and as an avid enjoyer of bbc ghosts i decided to share my thoughts and comparisons!
so here are my thoughts… (its kinda long so beware)
Things I Liked:
-My favourite characters are Isaac and Thorfinn, because Isaac is a silly gay soldier man (can you tell i love the captain) and thorfinn is THE icon.
-My favourite parts of the episodes are when they move away from the original bbc ghosts plot and create something of their own- it makes it more enjoyable and interesting as someone who has watched each episode of ghosts so many times ive lost count.
-The characters bounce off each other quite well, there were moments, like when pete and trevor hugged each other after pushing over the pot and i was like haha nice. 👍 they feel like a group
-the show is americanised and i like that about it, it feels very different from the rest of the shows i watch (im british) so its kind of a breath of fresh air in that way
-
Things i Didnt Like (sorry :(
-The run time (20 mins) means the story is very compacted and, compared to the original, the plot is the same but feels more rushed.
-They sometimes try to have emotional moments??? but i dont feel anything. in the first episode they have one just after samantha goes to hospital and i was sat there like Ok???? It didnt have an impact bc i had only known them for 15 minutes.
—Trevors character….. i think if i saw him without watching bbc ghosts i would have felt better about him. hes a combination of julian and thomas, and he feels washed out because he has both their major traits (slutty politician + liking alison/sam) but toned down.)
Instead of a poet waxing romance and almost innocently adoring her (like thomas) he is a weird politican guy who kinda hits on her sometimes (calling her hot, wondering if they were flirting). i still think hes entertaining, i like him but when he makes comments sometimes i want to scream like someone please make this man stop. hes like julian if he had 0% slut, looked like thomas, and hit on alison.
—some ghosts i dont really see??? like sasappis and that high girl (idek her name😭) i barely see, and the greaser guy with his head chopped off ive seen twice??? they probably get more screentime later but damn where these ghosts at. i want to know more
—cbs ghosts doesnt leave any suspense to what most died of. they flat out state most of them. it leaves the suspense that came with bbc ghosts completely gone. you cant make theories bc they hand it to you on a silver platter and dont make you wait.
—jay and samathas relationship makes me want to commit a crime (in a bad way!!). jay is the worst. they were arguing in teh first three episodes. Jay didnt want to move into the house. theyre not a united front at all! hes kinda fighting with sam and mentioned multiple times about her “cute butt” which personally made me want to scream again. and they just dont have couple vibes
when they try to have moments, it’s stilted. compared to alison and mike who you can see together and who you are endeared to from the first episode, they DONT compare.
Alison sometimes borrows mikes coat in the show, and i dont get that kind of comfortable loving vibe from sam and jay. its not happening for me.
anyway sam should just divorce jay and run the bnb by herself, send post
— OKAY there was this moment where trevor raises his arms and the rest of the ghosts cringe and look away bc of his crotch. Then theres a shot where trevors crotch isnt covered by a pot or another object, its blurred out in pixels. anyway i hated it so much pls make it disappear from existence im begging
-the colour palettes are kinda jarring, its not really that cohesive
Conclusion:
I do like it and i will keep watching it for Isaac, but mostly i still think bbc ghosts is the better option so far and if you are thinking about which to watch first, you should watch the original bbc ghosts.
im gonna keep watching and I really hope this show comes into its own.
BUT saying that, im probably biased because im super attached to bbc ghosts, so go check it out for yourself! i am a simple person on the internet and you’d probably be better forming your own opinion.
i’ll probably post my complete opinion on it if i ever finish it. so. yeah.
anyway if you read this far, i love you

thinkin' of like. in a situation where multiple doctors are present in the same location, are their associated hermit companions also just chilling there too (oh i. can't use question marks in the inbox/// imagine the forward slash as a question mark, kindly)/ tbh im mostly wondering how all the hermits eventually meet up in the same spot and Stop being everywhere in time and space. if they watch a Doctor regenerate what're their thoughts on that/ what would they think of the events of Logopolis, where half the universe is destroyed by a bunch of math no longer being done/
okay ive not watched logopolis yet but like can the universe stop being half destroyed? first this now whatever the flux is?
so im not entirely sure that the hermits would be companions fully, and if they Are then its like a terrible and precarious dance between all the doctors going hey technically im not allowed to meet myself (idk about 5 doctors and 2 doctors but 3 doctors was a time lord high council went hey yall deal with omega for us were bending the rules on this one kinda situation) so were trying to follow another doctor and drop you off with their group of hermits until everyones collected
probably not all the hermits in a group would be constant companions, one hermit scout kinda deal, which is hillarious if you think like 3 coming back to unit like "brigadier where are the creatures from the other universe" "why have you got that face again doctor, you told me yourself that you had just regenerated" "i did no such thing (implied "what the fuck" because we cant say that on the bbc)"
watching a regeneration really depends on which hermit and their relationship to the doctor regenerating, some may however rationalize it in a changing skin and being possessed way, and depending on how long the hermit has been outside of their universe the range of reaction to a flux or logopolis event may range from not understanding why its a bad thing because they can respawn (like the doctor) to fully grasping it, it depends on the hermit too much to say
quick edit before i post actually
WOULD LOGOPOLIS THREATEN THE HERMITS DIRECTLY BECAUSE CODE IS MATH AND HERMITS ARE CODE (FLESH) FLESH (CODE)??

top 5 fandoms that gave you mental illness
this was somewhat hard since i have dabbled in just about every fandom Ever but
1. has to be bandom since it was such a long and in depth obsession like sooooo much of my teen years was dedicated to listening to the same 15 albums on repeat and reading ablut brendon urie and spencer smith fucking and crying. unfortunately the things you do at age 13-16 stay with you forever
2. star trek. coincided with bandom. got my first long term girlfriend through talking excessively about star trek and feminism lol. and i still at least once every two years go back to star trek and i do think spock is one of the greatest characters of all time and he is the blueprint for all of my later obsessions
3. the witcher. i became pretty normal in my fandom habits when i went to uni but Then. covid happened just as i watched the witcher and i spent a year being nocturnal and reading geraskier fic in a dark room for the 8 hours i was awake. literally turned me back into a 14 year old
4. our flag means death. many of you were here to witness me reblog 100 ofmd posts a day. should've been writing my dissertation but I literally couldn't think about anything else. took over my brain in an INSANE way for like a full month. im scared for season 2
5. the untamed. another pandemic fandom. i watched it with two flatmates and we all had untamed twitters and it was craaaaazy to actually share a fandom with people you lived with. they couldn't get away from me speaking about nie mingjue at the kitchen table while we cooked. also like opened my eyes to a whole world of media I never consumed before
honourable mentions: british youtubers since I was in phandom from the start for years, rupauls drag race lol, superwholock, bbc sherlock specifically in the year 2022, hannibal on my third attempt at watching it. and a new fandom im making up now that consisted of movies that i loved in 2013: inception, the social network, and of course x-men first class 🫶
