... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I recently arrived earlier than usual at the building where I work, and a short line of uniformed children and teenagers caught my eye. And it is that just 170 meters away, between the tall and old buildings of the rambla, there is a school, it's the "Slaves of the Sacred Heart of Jesus School" (in Spanish: Escuela Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús; in Catalan, Col·legi Sagrat Cor - Esclaves), under the direction of a congregation Catholic religious of the same name, founded in 1877 by Santa Rafaela María Porras and her sister Pilar, and where they teach Ignatian spirituality. I sighed to imagine the details of each classroom, the impeccable nature of each space and the laborious activity of each day. And it's that those of us who are educators, of vocation and service, sigh before any careful temple of knowledge. ... ⠀⠀ #arquitectura #architecture #edificio #building #colegio #escuela #school #esclavasdelsagradoCorazóndeJesús #CollegiSagratCorEsclaves #educacion #education #rambladecatalunya #ciudadcondal #bcn #barcelona #cataluña #catalunya #españa #spain ⠀⠀⠀ https://www.instagram.com/p/CMkdOgyl5gk/?igshid=13bm53p5c5sxm

The construction of the church, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, lasted from 1902 to 1961. • • The idea of building a Catholic church on the summit of the Mount Tibidabo emerged in the late 19th century amidst rumors about the construction of a Protestant church and a hotel-casino at that location. This motivated a "Board of Catholic Knights" to acquire the ownership of the field and give it to Saint John Bosco in 1886, when he was visiting Barcelona at the invitation of Dorotea de Chopitea, a great patron and promoter of the project. From this arose the idea of a building dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a dedication very popular at that time thanks to the impetus given by Pope Leo XIII, and following in line with the church built in Rome by Bosco himself (Sacro Cuore Di Gesu a Castro Pretorio) and the famous Sacre-Coeur in Paris. • • www.naquinnphotography.com • • #22over7FineArtPhotography #fineart #Detail #photographer #Ornate #UK #artiseverywhere #landscapes #ArtNouveau #artiseverywhere #pictoftheday #insta_ni #instapic #instaphoto #instaphotograph #pictureoftheday #nofilter #nofilterneeded #art #fstoppers #FstoppersTravel #photooftheday #instagood #instagram #instadaily #travelgram #mytravelgram #localhistory #igers #igersoftheday (at Templo Sagrado Corazón de Jesús - Tibidabo) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvjChoAHRRN/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13wfrcidci92w

Miss Rigby, Miss Garcia, Mrs Deaville, and Mr Tyrie accompanied 26 Modern Foreign Language students to beautiful Barcelona, Spain.
This trip was the perfect opportunity for our students to learn the Spanish language and experience Spanish culture, in one of the biggest and most beautiful cities in Spain.
Day One
After stepping off the plane and into sunshine, the students walked down the tree-lined promenade Las Ramblas to Port Vell. Kiosks selling flowers, newspapers and souvenirs lined the street, along with performers, and pavement cafes. Its watercourse origins were reflected in the paving design, that appeared to ripple like water.
The students ended their first day with the colourful Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. Situated below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuïc mountain; the fountain was designed by Carles Buïgas and constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. A music and light show accompanied the fountain as it sprayed 700 gallons of water a second through 3620 jets to create an unforgettable performance.

Day Two
The next day saw the students climb Tibidabo mountain, overlooking Barcelona, and visit iconic Tibidabo Amusement Park, and Sagrat Cor church. This church was designed by Enric Sagnier, and took 60 years to build. It’s topped by the Sacred Heart of Jesus sculpture by Josep Miret Llopart.
Their second stop was world heritage site, Park Güell, a public park composed of gardens and architectonic elements. The park was designed by Antoni Gaudí, a renowned architect, whose style was inspired by organic shapes and analysis of geometry.
Park Güell is full of symbolism, as Gaudí was trying to synthesise many political and religious ideals. Students spotted concepts originating from Catalanism, Catholicism, and greek mythology.

Day Three
Day three was a bit more relaxed and started with a visit to the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, a Roman Catholic church designed by Antoni Gaudí.
Construction of the Sagrada Família started in 1882, and is due to be completed by 2026 – the centenary of Gaudí’s death. The building combines Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms to create a breathtaking engineering and artistic wonder.
After enjoying the peace of the monumental Sagrada Família, our students had a relaxing trip to Barcelona Zoo and one of Barcelona’s sunny beaches, where they received news of snow back home.

Day Four
On the last day of their fun-filled trip, the group rode the cable car up to Montjuïc Castle, an old 1640’s military fortress. On the way down they visited Anella Olímpica, the Olympic Park built for the 1992 Summer Olympics, and picturesque Plaza de España.
Unfortunately, the flight back home was delayed, but our students were offered the opportunity to see the cockpit, speak to the pilots, and find out how the aircraft worked.
