as for right now my only truely genuine complaint about chibnalls take on doctor who is that too little time is spent on fully exploring the dynamic and relationships between the doctor and her companions, which is unfortunate because that is truely the beating heart of the show otherwise. like there is very little There no serious conflict no big moments no development no nothing! why??
#granted i have similar complaints about lots of classic era anyway.its not actually unique to chibnall but after being treated so well#in this regard by previous seasons of nuwho you can definetly feel its absence now#doctor who#chibnall era#q-rambl3#again tho maybe itll be different in s12 and s13#DONT TELL ME I WANT TO FIND OUT FOR MYSELF!!!

I am being serious I don’t think in terms of the game that Venus has done terrible enough things to warrant this reaction to her. I don’t think her blindsiding Soda and Tevin is as bad as say Johnathon s13 who betrayed both of his tribes, Johnny Fairplay and his dead grandma, or even as bad as Q and Maria this season I mean RPS for food?? And not focusing on the game element there are a lot of moments where you can see Venus cheering for/hugging/consoling people that are upset and a lot of the times when Venus gets angry with people it’s because they are outright being unfair or mean. Idk call me delusional but the only fault I have with Venus is that she didn’t play her idol otherwise I loved her and want her back for season 50

A/N: Spoilers for the uninitiated: My theory on what the ending would be for the boys before the actual series finale occurred. Dean meets his neighbor, Julie, post-hunting life; this is their story. There’s angst and fluff and smut, and supernatural shenanigans thrive in this version.
Thanks to princessmisery666 for getting the ins and outs of @alphabetquest put together!
Dean channeled Bobby for much of the first week, fixing up what would hopefully be Winchester Auto Body. Many grumbles and mumbles. “Aw, hell” was in high rotation.
And all that was before he’d even started fully contemplating the wallet-busting aspect of the supplies and tools he’d need as a full-fledged car mechanic. This was merely cleaning up the lobby/customer-facing portion of the shop. Spackling, installing drywall, replacing cracked tiles, slapping primer on the walls, and staring at paint swatches as he decided what a customer might want to stare at in his own goddamn garage. Like he was Martha Fucking Stewart LARPing as Bobby Singer.
“Don’t even have the common sense God gave a gnat,” Dean chastised himself. He knelt beside the counter he was repairing. “You had to go and make the thing shorter than you needed. Could’ve at least had another go if the wood was too goddamn long. Idjit.” He flung the two-foot piece of lumber across the floor. It skidded to the end of the room and clapped against the wall.
The entrance door unlocked, distracting him from his stellar self-flagellation (of which he knew Bobby would have been proud) for a moment. The door opened, its overhead bell jangled, and Julie scurried inside. A cold burst of air whooshed in before the door clicked closed.
An oversized, sagging shopping bag dangled from her gloved hand. By the fullness of it, Dean imagined she had gotten a decent amount of groceries. Bundled in winter wear from head to toe, Julie’s pink cheeks rose with a smile when her gaze landed on Dean. “Hey, did you get my text messages?”
Dean pointed to the door leading to what would eventually be the garage/repair area. “Phone’s in the car.” He took his time and pulled himself to his feet with an audible grunt. Worn-out knees creaked, joints grinded and popped. Reminders of his age were hard to escape.
She pulled off her hat and rested the bag on the counter. “Do you know what time it is?” The gloves came off next.
“Watch is also in the car.” Dean nodded to the thick craft paper covering the two small windows in the lobby. “I lost track of the last time I saw sunlight peeking through those.”
The last of her layers were removed, everything piled on the only chair in the room. Julie stepped back toward Dean, asking, “Do you know what day it is?”
“It’s Thursday, sweetheart. No recent concussions to speak of. Why all the questions?”
She scooted in close, wrapped arms around his waist. “It’s your birthday.”
The side of Dean’s mouth lifted. “I thought…”
“I did forget. With everything going on…” she trailed off.
Dean didn’t have to be reminded of what Julie was going through.
“Anyway, I saw mom this afternoon and she asked me what I was making you special for dinner. I’m so sorry, Dean.” She lifted on tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
“Brigida’s in the hospital, and you're apologizing to me?” Dean shook his head.
“Well, the good news is they’ve gotten her hydrated, and her blood sugar is better. She should get released tomorrow. I’ll have alarms on her phone reminding her to eat and drink like clockwork. I’ll call her every hour if I have to. Doesn’t matter if she’s stressed out; she better take care of herself and stop worrying about everything.”
“So, you can do all the worrying, then?”
Julie side-eyed his question. Dean knew better than to push. Brigida’s recent stress had come from her youngest, Joe, almost three thousand miles away in San Francisco. Julie and Brigida called him with the magic gene pool information less than a week ago.
Dean had been off-camera for Julie and Brigida's conversation with Joe. Dean wanted to intervene, to try and explain, but Julie waved him back. She needed him for support, not to come to her rescue… this time.
Joe’s relationship with his father had been fractured before the news; during the video chat, he made it clear he wanted nothing to do with the man who had put his mother, sister, wife, and sons at risk with selfish and unilateral choices. Then, there was the real backstory of Sam and Dean Winchester.
The final straw was finding out that Julie and Brigida knew about supernatural threats while visiting with his family during Christmas and had kept all that from him. Not being provided the knowledge to protect those who meant the world to him could not be quickly glossed over. He didn’t know when he would want to talk to his sister or mother, but he’d be the one to reach out if he did. He ended the call with an abrupt goodbye, cutting off a pleading Brigida.
Brigida had crumpled in Dean’s arms after the rebuff by her son. She was inconsolable for days. The emotional turmoil and self-neglect, especially forgetting to keep up with her medications, resulted in dizziness. She’d fainted in the kitchen one morning while a neighbor visited. An ambulance had been called, and the emergency responders rushed her to the nearest hospital.
Dean’s heart ached for everyone involved. The circumstances reminded him of the rift decades ago between his father and brother. The phantom prickle of Sam’s palpable anger could still make Dean shiver. Sam had been justified in the ire felt against those closest to him. The youngest in the Winchester line hadn’t been trusted -deemed not strong enough- to handle family secrets. Though they didn’t speak of it as often now, Dean knew Sam never got over the what-ifs that could have prevented Jessica’s tragic death.
Now, Julie was stuck in the middle of it all, as Dean had been. She confided in him when they were alone after the call. She didn’t want to lose her brother. What if she wasn’t the only one in the Cuore bloodline with this natural witchcraft affinity? What if her nephews exhibited abilities later on and needed guidance, and Joe still wanted nothing to do with the family?
Dean pushed her to contact Sam as often as she needed. Sam had offered to be her magic hotline, and he’d meant it. He understood what Julie was going through more than Dean ever could. Sam was ecstatic about mentoring a natural witch (who happened to be Dean’s fiance). He was nose-deep into spell research and supernatural history again.
Dean guessed that Julie believed that this was somehow all her fault and that it was her job to find a way to fix it. He’d tried to stay clear of witch talk. He had a hard enough time being objective and finding the silver lining in all this himself at times. Confiding in Sam might ease her into believing she could make it right, whatever that meant.
“Anyway…” Julie trailed off. “I went to that bakery over on Union Street that you like.” She opened the bag and pulled out one clear plastic container after another, each filled with a slice of pie, and placed them in a neat row for Dean’s perusal. Each printed label advertised a different, delectable flavor, twelve in total. Apple. Cherry. Blueberry. Pecan. Pumpkin. Banana Cream. Lemon Meringue. Key Lime. Peach. Shoo-Fly. Strawberry. Chocolate Cream. Two large bottles of water were excavated from the bottom of the bag, followed by pairs of forks and spoons from Julie’s fancy silverware, and a stack of napkins. “Happy Birthday.”
Dean surmised if Julie couldn’t find a way to fix her family at the moment, she made it her mission to fix forgetting Dean’s birthday. “Looks like we got work to do.” Dean licked his lips and wiped his hands over the denim covering his thighs.
Julie smiled, proud and encouraging.
*
Pie sampling was a methodical job. Dean was up to the task. And he couldn’t think of a better way to catch up on much-needed quality time with Julie. They’d both been way too busy and distracted.
He and Julie hunched over the counter, opposite sides, jabbing at flaky crust and scooping a glorious bite in every forkful. Spoons were used occasionally for rogue cream or fruit filling. They’d sometimes take turns feeding each other, but Julie spent more time staring at Dean than eating.
“Watching you eat is like watching a force of nature, you know.” She chuckled.
“I’m glad I can amuse you while enjoying myself.” Dean didn’t care how many crumbs flew out of his mouth as he spoke. “Win, win.”
“More like amaze me.” Julie’s eyes widened, and she shook her head, stabbing a piece of apple with her fork.
Dean lifted the cherry pie container to his nose and inhaled the sweet and tart scent. “I’m amazed. This is one of the best birthdays ever.”
A wistful smile crept over Julie’s lips. “I hoped to do a little better, celebrating your birthday with you for the first time.”
“Did you not hear the ‘one of the best birthdays ever’ part?” Dean chewed, slow and purposeful, savoring the bright cherry flavor bursting in his mouth.
Julie straightened and downed a gulp of water. “A little over a month ago you went all out for my birthday. It was so sweet and thoughtful.”
Dean beamed. “It was pretty awesome.”
She nodded and waved her hands over the counter in presentation. “Well, I wanted to do more than this. I had something planned,” she began. Dean perked up at the leading statement. “And if mom does come home tomorrow morning, and I can get Jack to stay with her, I’m hoping it can still happen. So, no work this weekend, okay?”
“No work this weekend,” Dean repeated. He loved that Julie had so much faith in Jack. To be fair, he did seem to be a better person sitter than Cas. Brigida adored Jack and vice versa, so it wouldn’t be a tough sell.
Julie glanced around the room. “Picked a color yet?”
Dean groaned and filled his mouth with silky smooth chocolate cream.
“It’s really coming along, baby,” Julie added. “You’re doing great.” Her gaze halted at the trucker hat hanging on a solitary wall hook. “I haven’t seen that before.”
Dean stood tall and sipped at his water bottle. “One of Bobby’s. Garth gave it to me a couple of years back.”
Julie scrunched her eyes. “What’s it say?”
“Singer Salvage.”
“Oh,” Julie confirmed her understanding with one word. She’d been told many stories about Bobby. “He’d be proud of ya, Dean.”
“That grumpy old man was always proud of Sam and me. No matter how crazy we drove him. Lucky to have him around for the time we did.” He stared at the worn and stained logo of Singer Salvage. His mind's eye pictured the stern blue eyes and frown accompanying that very hat hundreds of times.
Dean cleared his throat and decided to tackle the Lemon Meringue next. He needed something with a bit of zing to zip him out of the bittersweet memory that had crept up in the conversation.
Julie wiped her mouth and hands with a bunch of napkins, then tossed them into the empty bag. “I might have another gift for you tonight if you’re up for it.” She smirked.
He knew what that smirk meant. “I’m listening.” He offered his best sultry grin in return.
“I seem to recall you mentioning there was a birthday gift I could give you that might even top this.”
Dean pondered but came up blank. He shrugged, hating his failing memory. “This is a serious problem.”
She frowned. “What?”
“The fact that you remember practically everything I say and I can’t,” he mumbled.
Julie giggled.
“I give.”
“Well, we’ve got everything to make it happen right here. Baby.” She pointed to the door leading to the garage. “Me.” She sipped a bit more water and raised a brow. “And, a piece of pie you haven’t sampled yet tonight.”
Dean placed both hands on the counter, bracing himself at the realization. “Yeah?”
Julie nodded with a grin.
His brain kicked into overdrive. “Give me a couple minutes.” He bolted into the back and returned to give Julie the sweetest smile he could. “Bring that slice of cherry pie, too, please. That’ll be my dessert after dessert.” He lifted both shoulders and attempted a puppy dog plea, “Unless you wanna try…”
She raised a hand. “I draw the line at baked goods down there, Dean.”
He shrugged, still giddy. “Fair enough.”
*
Damn. He was getting old.
It should have been a phenomenal time. If only his forty-something-year-old body had not decided that tonight was the perfect time to stage a protest against the car sex scenario he’d been promised.
He tried to make things comfortable and worthy of Julie in advance. There’d been factors that he could control. With the absence of working overhead lights in the garage, he’d positioned his camping lantern atop a workbench. The lantern bathed Baby’s hood in a yellow firefly glow that trickled in past the windshield.
The drafty garage door was a useless barricade from the frigid January temperature. The back room felt like a walk-in freezer. He’d pulled out Julie’s gift of a flannel throw from the trunk and laid it onto the backseat. He hoped they could overcome the chill with some hot and heavy making out.
He’d popped in one of his “smooth moves” mix tapes from decades ago to set the mood. Julie shivered in his arms as they settled into Baby. Cold tips of noses and fingers eventually warmed with continued groping. They wriggled out of shoes and sneakers and rubbed their socked feet against each other.
Dean slotted between Julie’s legs, their bodies contorting to fit in the cramped space. Julie raised knees. Dean angled hips. One of his legs bent to sink into the footwell. They chuckled their way through the awkwardness, apologizing for an elbow to a neck or not sexy, unintentional hair pulling.
Julie’s kisses were the real magic, building with intensity and passion, clinging to his lips, chasing them as he struggled to get comfortable. He’d stripped her from the waist down and clunked the top of his skull more than once on the headliner. “Son of a bitch,” he mumbled.
“Are you alright?” Julie asked, teeth chattering, behind a grin.
“Yeah,” he huffed, his breath fogging in the cold. He pushed away the reflexive instinct to shake a salt circle around Baby. “Maybe this was a bad idea. Was gonna ask you to ride my face, but I might make you come so hard you’ll give yourself a concussion.”
Julie crowed. “Thanks for looking out for me, lover.”
“Always safety first, darlin’.” With as much care as he could, he swung a complete 180, climbed over her supine frame, and positioned his knees on either side of her head.
Her pussy radiated heat. He licked at the slit, lapping up her excitement with complete indulgence. She may not have been as sweet as chocolate cream, but she was all silky slick and melted like meringue against his tongue.
She moaned in encouragement, hips lifting to meet his eager feasting. He spread her wide, arms wrapping around thighs, hands tucked under her knees to hold them up and aloft.
Julie palmed at the bulge in his jeans. He groaned against her pink, wet flesh. The tip of his nose nudged into building arousal while his lips suckled on her clit.
He’d wanted to see how many times he could make her orgasm that night with his tongue and fingers. But the sudden cramp in his neck fast-tracked his plans. He eased off, instead flicking her clit with fingers in that quick trigger way he knew would make her come. And she did, calling out his name. He praised her right before his back began to seize. It had been a mad scramble to swing himself around to topple chest to chest onto Julie. “Fuckin’ back,” he clicked his teeth together and hissed in air.
She oofed and held onto him while he grunted at the pain and interruption. He nuzzled into the space where her neck and shoulder met, his cheek resting against her wild mane of hair.
“It’s okay,” she heaved out a sated breath. “I promise to take care of you when we’re home in bed. We can rest here as long as you need, baby.” She ran her hands up and down Dean’s spine.
Dean shifted and a dull pain throbbed in his lower back. “I hate getting old.”
Fingers carded through his hair for about a minute. “You know, getting old means you’ll be spending all that time with me.”
Dean attempted a chuckle that wouldn’t cause more pain. “Yeah, I’m sure you’re gonna love having to deal with shit like this.”
“I want all of it, Dean. Good and bad. Not like I’m gonna make it a cake walk for you, either.”
“You’re more like a pie sampler,” he hummed.
Julie giggled, chest fluttering under him. She quieted down after a few seconds. Her breathing regulated. It sounded like she was already drifting off, which knowing her, was highly plausible. “Did you make a wish yet?” she asked on a soft exhale.
“Huh?”
“Make a birthday wish,” she urged in a dreamy tone.
“Hm.” He felt his body begin to relax. “I wish I’d met you when I was younger, when I was in my prime. I could have really rocked your world.”
“Dean, you’ve rocked my world a hundred times.” Yeah, Dean could tell she was seconds away from a nap.
He shrugged. “Well, car sex would not have been this difficult when I was younger.”
“Well, in that case, I wish I’d met you when you were younger, too.”
Dean counted in his head. Sure enough, before he got to 30, Julie started snoring.
“That’s gotta be some kind of record,” he whispered, wondering how she could possibly be comfortable under his weight. But he stilled and listened to her breathing. He’d give her a few minutes, then muddle through the pain and crawl out of the backseat if he had to. He’d leave Baby here and let Julie drive him home tonight.
Julie mumbled something. He was sure she was speaking Italian.
“Vorrei… incontrato… eri giovane.”
Dean’s eyes grew heavy, and he succumbed to sleep.

Hello, you post from the other day made me think: Are any of the other Winchesters (Mary, late season and early season Sam and Dean) ideologically opposed to violence again children? Like idk. Feels like early Sam and Dean might be in a "vague, obviously I would never do that" but they've also never been parents. But then late seasons, its like :/
oh great thing to ponder
mary i feel like we don’t see anything on screen in either direction? but it doesn’t feel like her style. of course we don’t see her actually parenting kids much but she doesn’t seem whatsoever overly emotional or particularly controlling and she’s very sweet to jack from what i remember and idk i just have a hard time imagining it. whether she’s incredibly opposed? idk, again she’s born in the 1950s and was raised hunting which is innately a violent atmosphere. but she also really did not want her kids hunting & is very distressed by the fact they’re still in the life. idk. to me it doesn’t read like someone who thinks hitting kids is whatsoever ok. that being said i think she’d be upset if john did and she found out, but not, like, insanely upset by it to a point of it changing her opinion on john.
sam and dean….. well canonically they do of course really hate violence against children, s1’s nightmare and s12’s american nightmare come to mind, plus i remember mark of cain dean yelling at what he thinks is a bad father but i dont remember the actual context for that. that being said both those episodes are very extreme cases of textbook physical abuse that i think anyone sane would be disturbed and upset by.
at the same time i think both of them are biased via not wanting to view john as physically abusive in any way. s1 dean probably thinks slapping ur kid a bit is like. fine. no harm done. he certainly defends john to sam enough... i reckon after john dies and he starts processing things he goes back on this completely but by late seasons/dabb era he’s probably back to his original opinion. sam thinks hitting a kid is always wrong because they have so much less power than you except for when it applies to him as the kid. in that case it was basically fine.
basically i do think they’re both ideologically opposed but sam more so than dean. also dean hits sam and smashes shit up when he’s mad so he’s not exactly or whatsoever ideologically opposed to interpersonal violence in his other relationships…..
that being said i dont really see dean hitting a kid he can just take that out on sam or the furniture around them instead. dean’s violence is a lot less unintentional than he sometimes makes it seem, it’s usually a purposeful demonstration of control, and i think actually hitting a kid is a line i can’t really see him crossing. not because he isn’t that bad but because he wouldn’t want to conceptualise himself that way. whereas john probably wouldnt think so much of it. but maybe i’m wrong 🤷♂️ ??? kind of split on this. interested to hear other peoples takes on it
sam never. not in a million years. and he is definitely strongly ideologically opposed, id say the most of them all. i hate to say it but i think if dean did it he’d manage to defend it though. the same way he defends dean telling jack he’s going to kill him. ‘dean was wrong to do that! but Also, he’s going through a hard time-’
wrt to jack……. i mean dean basically tries to kill him😭. early s13 is pure abusive family core. do i think dean would hit jack? he shoves ben into the wall but it’s an accident... and he’s pretty distressed by that iirc? he probably would in early s13 but he wouldn’t think of it as violence against children. which doesn’t make it better in the slightest. but to dean it does. <3
thanks for the q anon!!
#inspo#haven’t thought about any of this much or at all before#might take some of this back later#if u have other takes feel free to argue with me#spn#oliver talks#poison in the water#asks#idk im thinking a lot about dean. the thing is that dean is Violent. its the way he reacts to sooo much stuff.#and i think dean could do pretty much anything if he justified it to himself.

Happy WW! This is actually a wincestiel q but when and how and when can you see Cas slotting into S/D’s relationship?
oHHHH WHAT A QUESTIONNNNNN
as i sit and like cook on things, i certainly don't see it happening before s9 and the part of me that loves toxicity and mess thinks it would be really fun and beautiful for cas to be the middle man/marriage counsellor/sexual aide for the two of them after the mess of the divorce arc that was season 8
the sliver of me that does not love toxicity and mess and instead loves things to be like healthy and loving says some time in s13 (which i am still........six??? episodes into. you can tell i am not motivated) and with that comes both sam and dean processing letting someone else really into their family and also cas being a parent who is slowly becoming more understanding of the importance of humans and how to articulate that importance and i think that would be really cute
insane person answer: i think sam and cas should have nonconned dean together in s6 when they were both on their temporarily evil turn

@jinkx-monswoon so no one can really be sure however, the last time we’ve seen them interacte was for the SC x Alaska song/mv
Supposedly there was some stuff going behind the scenes about the songs release date being delayed because something with Voss (aka rosés management— if that’s the right word to call it?) that people speculated caused drama
But then I remember someone (I think it was joley’s anon) debunked that? I can’t remember how.
Additionally, Rosie’s ex (the one she was with during the pandemic/while s13 aired) posts tiktoks or poems lowkey bashing rosé (or as Twitter people would say: subtweeting) bc he’s not over him/bitter over whatever happened that led to their breakup but in one of the tiktoks he mentioned fucking one of rosés friends so people have speculated the friend in question is Jan. (Jan and her long time bf are open) But again, all speculation.
You might ask maybe they chat in priv which is fair and possible.. but neither are in each others comments like they used to, no birthday posts like they used to.. and trust me these bitches would do a whole slideshow on their IG stories lmao also when Jan goes live on tiktok she always reads the comments and is answering q’s and chats w the audience but would avoid anything that has to do with rosé when ppl comment lmao and deadass someone was spamming the fucking chat so it’s not like she missed it DNSJXSJ
they’re both are on good terms with Lagoona though!!

Rubi, if that’s how the divorce arc started, then how did the make up in purgatory go? I have to know what you think
hi katie! okay, i meant to answer this yesterday when it was all clear in my head but I passed out.
In my head, if they did go canon when they were supposed to in s12 or s13, dean and cas would have been working on their relationship like a side project. it's not the priority right now when lucifer and lucifer son was running around. then the addition of chuck and amara they just never had time to really set a strong relationship base. so they tried their best with whatever they had and maybe they did have long talks of "when this is all over me and you will go somewhere...just the two of us." but they never asked for more than that from each other. they probably didn't know how or even if they could.
so when the divorce arcs starts like i said here in this post, I imagine purgatory makeup being dean finally asking cas to stay. promising to prioritize their relationship that was always on the back burner. he would probably say "I'm sorry i should have noticed jack...i should have noticed you were hiding something. i never asked. I never ask what you're doing but i trust you. I do. I'm sorry. I'm sorry please be okay so we can...we can give it another go. and we'll do things right. just please be okay, cas."
i would still expect that bone-crushing hug and that little relief smile. i just think them being together makes the whole glass clink so much better. i would love for cas to say "to another go." and the clink happening when dean says "to us."
hope you enjoy my good spn that lives in my head and sorry if it's hard to understand :)
#i swear to you i thought they were together since s13 and eventually they were going to say 'hey they were together the whole time!'#...they didnt do that.#answering the q's#destiel#also yes dean is apologizing instead cause you know...wtf did cas do#but whatever :)

A gust of wind skirted past Dean. It zipped to his left, then right, skimmed his backside, and rushed over his belly. It gained strength and direction, caressing every inch of his skin with a non-stop rotation. A sentient hula hoop on steroids.
Dean’s eyes slit open against the forceful assault. He marveled at the color imbued within the air that highlighted its movement. A sky blue paint stroke –reminiscent of the sunniest, cloud-free days– sparkling and shimmering in waves and ribbons. Faster and faster, it spun into a whirling powder blue cotton candy cyclone. It pulled apart again like a long string of taffy and rocketed straight at Dean’s face. He choked on the air as it barrelled into his mouth, down his throat, filling every cell with a rush of power.
Dean. Dean.
“Dean.”
Julie’s voice woke him. His head jolted up. He blinked in a vain attempt to make out anything in the dark.
The shock from the unsettling dream had his heart racing. But he was fine. Safe. His night vision began to take shape. He remembered where he’d been before he fell asleep. Resting atop Julie in Baby’s backseat.
“You alright? You were wheezing in your sleep.”
He gulped in the cold air, relieved. “Yeah. I’m good.”
She shivered beneath him. “I don’t know how long we’ve been out. Lantern’s battery died.”
“Shit.” Dean yawned. “Hang on.” He slung an arm and leg over the top of the front seat and flopped onto the bench.
“Be careful.” Julie urged, clumsily fumbling around in the back herself.
Dean’s hand released the glove box latch, and then he groped inside for his phone. A tap on the screen, and Dean squinted at the artificial light. He blinked in awe of how late it was. “Damn, it’s after midnight. Were there sleeping pills in those pies?”
“Ha ha,” she replied in a sarcastic tone. “Can you shine some light back here? I can’t find my panties.” Julie huffed.
Dean chuckled and tapped the flashlight on his phone. He turned around to provide the spotlight requested. A half-naked Julie bent down in search and tried in vain to cover her body with the throw. “You should check the back dash, and I’ll check out that sweet ass.”
“Dean.” She shook her head while performing something resembling a yoga pose. “Ah, there they are.”
“You know, you don’t have to put them back on. We could give it another go.”
She cackled, paying attention to the task of dressing instead of him. “Okay, this whole thing you’re doing? I’m gonna need you to stop.”
Dean pouted. “Hmph. Where’s your sense of adventure?”
“You want adventure after that mess with your back a couple of hours ago? How about where’s your sense of sensible? I’d rather drive you home than to the hospital. Do you miss my mother so much that you want to share a room with her at St. Francis?”
Dean shifted from side to side. Rolled his neck. “I don’t feel any pain now.” No. There wasn’t any hint of the damage he’d done to himself earlier. Weird. “Huh.”
Julie tugged up her leggings and ran fingers through her hair. “Well, let’s keep it that way, yeah?” Julie tilted her head and stared at him for agreement. The smile lasted a few seconds. Then it dropped, replaced with confusion. She blinked, rubbed her eyes. “I gotta get myself to the eye doctor. My vision is getting crappier without my glasses.” Renewed panic laced her voice. “Where are my glasses?”
“You did the smart thing and left them on the counter. They would’ve gotten broken in here with all the acrobatics we were doing.” Dean reasoned, then shifted around to face the front.
She exhaled, sounding relieved. “What’s going on with your voice?” Julie asked.
“What do you mean what’s going on with my voice?”
“I don’t know. That’s why I’m asking. It sounds… different.”
Dean shrugged. “It’s been a long day, sweetheart. Let’s just pack it up and get home.”
Julie yawned. “Fine.”
Dean scooted into the driver’s seat. With the key still in the ignition, he clicked over to auxiliary mode, then pulled on the headlight knob.
Bright light ricocheted off the garage walls and flooded back into Baby. On the dashboard lay the container of half-eaten cherry pie, a fresh napkin, and his used fork. Dean’s eyes widened at the dessert. His tongue swirled around the tacky interior of his mouth caused by sleep and sex.
A back car door creaked open. He snatched up the pie and pried the plastic open with a loud snap. “Gimme a minute to polish this off. I’ll race you home.”
Julie stepped out. “You’re driving home?”
“Mhmmm.” He mumbled, mouth full.
“I don’t think so.” She called out, then clicked the squeaking door shut. “Lemme grab my jacket. I’ll help you clean up the garage. Then we can tidy up the front before I take you home.”
She’d already disappeared into the lobby before Dean could swallow and offer to rock paper scissors the driving decision. He was feeling lucky.
He was feeling fucking great, to be honest. He eased his shoulders back and inhaled deep. He nodded to a rock beat in his brain and shoveled in a few more bites.
Finished with the dessert, he popped out of Baby and made a mad dash to pile up his cleaning supplies and wrangle some stray tools into his toolbox. His shadow loomed large and stretched over the garage walls. The throw got folded and stashed in the trunk. When he clicked it shut, he found Julie staring at him from the middle of the room.
“Already done. I’ll bet we can be out of here in less than five,” he nodded with confidence.
Julie stood, frozen. Bundled in a jacket, glasses perched on her face, mouth agape.
“Babe?” Dean tensed.
“D-Dean?” Her eyes widened.
“What’s wrong?” He started toward her. She stepped backward. He halted, his hands raised. “Hey, what’s going on?”
“You…” she trailed off.
“Me…” he replied.
“You’re… Dean, you’re… younger.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
She pointed at him. “Look at yourself.”
Dean sighed, thought for a second, and pulled his phone from his front pocket. He tapped the camera on and switched it to selfie mode.
Taken aback at the reflection, he yelled, “What the fuck?”
That’s when he heard the difference in his voice Julie had questioned earlier. It had lost decades of gravel and wear and tear, just like the rest of him.
The eyes blinking back only had a handful of crow’s feet around the edges. His forehead wasn’t lined like a notebook. He licked his top lip. The action drew his attention to the plump and pouty mouth, both a blessing and a curse from his younger days.
“What the fuck?” This time, the question trickled out of his mouth as he poked at his cheek, taut and firm. The scar under his chin, which he’d gotten over a decade ago, had disappeared. It was like he’d just left the barber shop after a clean shave. After stepping out of a time machine that had rewound the age clock to 25.
“How did this happen?” Julie choked out.
Dean looked up from his phone. “I-I got no idea. But, I mean, it would explain why I feel so… fucking great. Ever since I woke up in the car, there’s none of the usual aches and pains.” He shoved his phone into his back pocket and raised a hand. “It’s still me, Jules. And, honestly, it’s not the first time something like this has happened. I lost to a witch at poker once. We were betting years of our life, and I aged up to like 80.” He continued to ramble. “And, hey, at least it’s not like when the witch from Hansel and Gretel turned me into a teenager.”
Julie gasped and raised a hand to her mouth. “Witch,” she murmured.
Dean gulped as he also realized the connection.
“I-I did this.”
“No, no, no, no.” He rushed out the words in a whisper. His head shook, attempting to convince. “You didn’t do this all by yourself. I was the one who made the wish.” He crept towards her. “Baby. It’s okay. We’ll figure it out. Everything’s fine.”
“Everything is not fine!” She stumbled backward into the workshop table. The lantern teetered atop it. “I shouldn’t be around you. Anyone. I’m not safe.” Julie darted to the door. Luckily, Dean sprinted like he really was young again. He slid between Julie and the exit. She skidded to a stop before they collided. “Dean…”
“Uh-uh. You can’t leave me to figure this out alone. I need you, Jules. You’ve never been anything but safe for me.” He inhaled deeply and steadied himself. “Look, let’s call Sam, alright? I’m betting he can figure out how to fix this.”
