distraction ⭑ l. lawliet
summary: during a late night working on the kira case with L, his distractions become too overpowering and the two of you decide to blow off some steam.
( part 2 here ! )
pairing: l. lawliet x fem!reader
warnings: SMUT!! MINORS DNI!!! this gets a little filthy actually. virgin!L, praise, unprotected sex (don’t be silly wrap your willy), L is needy as hell, also he swears like 3 times i think so
authors note: hiiii this isn’t proofread and it’s 4am enjoy
smut under the cut‼️
Tumblr media
every night working with you was a long one. in the beginning it was because, try as he might, L could not seem to get you to remember the simplest things you were supposed to do to help him out. you’d forget how many sugars he took in his tea, or forget where you had filed something away the night before, whatever it was it always got on L’s nerves.
not like he could say something to you, he was always fearful that he would hurt your feelings or that you would think he was much more upset than he really was, and that would impact your work.
nowadays however, now that your working together was no longer a new thing and the both of you had gotten into more of a routine, L began to attribute the long nights to simply one thing, you.
he wasn’t sure exactly why, but he found himself distracted from the task at hand most nights of the week, usually thinking instead about how nice it is that you help him out with so much and how enjoyable it is to work with somebody as smart as you. right now in particular though, he was realizing just the reason you were becoming such a distraction.
thanks to his crunched posture, you were blissfully unaware of the growing distraction that laid underneath the zipper of his jeans.
when you’d first joined him that evening, the sight of you descending from your room adorned in pyjamas that left alarmingly little to the imagination, only being aided by a knit cardigan left hanging open, a sudden pulse shot through his body and left L truly praying you couldn’t see the tent forming in his pants. it wasn’t as if L didn’t realize before how attractive you are, but things like that had never affected him the way they were now.
if she would just button up that sweater. maybe then i’d be able to get some work done.
“hellooo?” the sweet sound of your voice interrupted his thoughts, “ryuzaki, did you hear a word i just said?”
“er- no, my apologies. what was it you were saying?”
you playfully rolled your eyes at him and stood as you spoke again, “i said, i’m going to make another tea. do you want anything?”
just to make this throbbing go away so i can get back to work. “no, thank you. hurry back though will you? i’m not getting through this as quickly as i’d like to so i’ll need as much of your help as i can get.”
he watched you hurry out of the room to make your tea and tried hard not to take notice of how little the back of your shorts covered or the sway in your hips as you walked. he placed a hand over his clothed erection and allowed his head to fall back onto the chair, a quick sigh escaping him at the accidental friction.
his few moments of solace came to an end quickly when you came back into the room, giving him little time to sit up and readjust before you took your seat in the chair next to him. almost immediately you scooted over closer and held out a closed fist in front of him, “give me your hand.”
L stretched his hand out underneath yours, a small wrapped candy falling into his palm.
“i grabbed one for you from the bowl in the kitchen.” you said as you unwrapped one of your own.
he watched carefully as the candy brushed your lips before you gently placed it on your tongue, his breathing steadily becoming more heavy and intense and he could feel every pump of blood circulating through his veins, “thank you.”
“are you alright? you look a little flushed. i can turn down the heat if you want, i did turn it up a bit a little while ago.” you started to stand.
“no!” the tips of his ears began to burn with embarrassment as he quickly stood in her place, urging her back into her chair so she wouldn’t be able to see anything, “uh- no, thank you. you just sat back down, i can get it.”
L tried to steady his breathing on the walk over to the thermostat, taking this time with his back turned to attempt to shift his erection in a way it would go unseen. hesitating to turn back around, he scurried back over to his chair with his head down and hoped to whatever god might be listening that you didn’t get a chance to see.
god, how unprofessional. if she noticed, our professional relationship will be tarnished indefinitely and she’d never trust me again. not that i would really blame her, i mean how would that seem, she’s alone at night with her boss and he’s sporting an erection.
unfortunately for L, you had noticed, you actually had noticed back when you got up to get your tea but you weren’t sure if you were just fantasizing imagining things. you were sure of what you saw on his strange walk back to his seat.
while he was lost in his own worry, L failed to notice you moving your chair so your arms were practically touching until he felt you peering in front of him.
he snapped his head back, “what are you doing?”
“just looking at what you’ve got over here. if you weren’t hogging it the whole time i wouldn’t have to invade your space.”
L clutched his knees closer to his chest, at the point of being unable to hide his unsteady and shallow breaths. he wasn’t sure what to do, or what to say to get out of the position he was now in to decide what happened next.
you turned around to look at him, presumably asking him something about what you’d just read. he tried to hear you, he really did, but over his pounding heartbeat and mind full of thoughts all he could do was watch your mouth move in what felt like slow motion.
“i’m sorry, can you please say that again?” he could barely hear his own muffled words. you were so close to him and he could see directly down your top from where he was sat, not that it helped much that you were leaned directly into his eye-line.
you placed your hand on his knee and he thought he was going to throw his stomach up, “i just asked what you thought about these men from the yotsuba group. ryuzaki, seriously is everything okay?”
he wanted to answer but before he could even try you spoke again, “maybe you need to put the case down for a while, y’know, blow off some steam.”
finally, he looked you in the eye, “please forgive me.”
before you got a chance to ask what for, both of his hands held your face as he leaned forward, planting a hesitant but desperate kiss on your lips. he was sure that the moment he pulled away, your involvement in this case and his life was going to crumble in front of him.
to his surprise, he barely had a second to take a breath before you were gripping onto his shirt and pulling him back in. every nerve in his body felt like it was on fire, you were practically on top of him and he couldn’t help but try and pull you in closer, reaching for your jaw and your waist and practically anything he could get his hands on. his body was moving by itself and solely on instinct, making him feel a little self conscious about if he was doing the right things. his mind was soon put at ease when he felt his arms fall slack and your weight shift over him, the closer you got the better. you pulled away just slightly to take a breath and his legs fell to a normal position, hurriedly kissing you again and hoping you would just understand and sit down so he didn’t have to try and speak right now.
“ryuzaki—“
“L.” he interjected, “please i— please call me L. just here.”
you smiled, “L, are you sure this is alright?”
“one hundred percent.” his hands still holding onto your waist for dear life, you held his face with yours as you closed the small gap that remained between the two of you. he let out a small, involuntary groan when he felt your thighs press around his hips, “i’m going to need some guidance here, as i’m sure you’ve guessed this isn’t something i have any prior experience with.”
“don’t worry, i’ll teach you.” gently, you began to grind down on him, earning a deep sigh from L and his hands making their way from your waist down to your hips, using his white-knuckled grip to help you slowly along.
“that- that feels incredible. y/n- please i don’t know if i can hold out.” his cheeks were flushed bright red—probably the most colour you’d ever seen on his face—and he looked down to where the only things standing in his way was his jeans and those godforsaken pyjama shorts you wore, “not that i want to go quickly through this, in fact that’s less than ideal it’s just— this is getting rather painful. i need— shit, can i please, you know.”
to put him out of his misery, you hushed him with a kiss and got to work on undoing the button on his pants. you’d barely gotten it undone when his hands pushed yours out of the way, pushing both his pants and boxers down just enough for his cock to spring free.
you were glad you were already sitting down. not that you were expecting to be disappointed by the size of course, but just seeing it now made you feel a little nervous. drool nearly threatened to escape your mouth before you snapped back into it, making a mental note that you would have to do that another time.
L looked up to you, one hand pushing your shorts to the side trying not to cum right there when he realized you hadn’t been wearing underwear and the other slowly stroking himself, awaiting your approval.
the look on his usually-blank face would’ve been enough to make anybody weak, “L, please.”
he wasted no time in lifting your hips up and pushing himself in, pausing after just the tip to breathe and calm himself down. you could feel his hands trembling during his failed attempt to keep his composure, opting to ease yourself onto him instead.
he let out a shaky breath that caught in his throat when you’d fully sat back down. you yourself were trying to breathe through the intense feelings already taking over your whole body, you weren’t even sure you’d be able to take him fully, and now that you had you felt more full than you ever had in your life.
“let me know when it’s okay to move,” you whispered by his ear, “we’ll go as slow as you need.”
his hands returned to their spot on your hips, “dear god, move.”
you started off slow, his cock only coming out about an inch or two before pushing right back in. his head was spinning, you were invading his every sense. all he could smell was your shampoo, the taste of the candy you’d eaten still remaining both of your tongues. all he wanted to do was show you what he was feeling. he didn’t have the words to even begin to try and explain it. as if they had a mind of their own, his hips began to meet your movements, quickly picking up in speed and overtaking your control.
“fuck! that’s it— L, please.” you couldn’t say much more than that, every word being punctuated with a hushed moan, but the praise drove him crazy. any hesitation he’d had before was forgotten about, and he let his instincts take over. after all, he’d learned to always trust his instincts, why would now be any different?
he knew he wasn’t going to last very long, yet he couldn’t help pushing your hips down to meet his thrusts, hitting your g-spot with every one and making you practically cry out. if it weren’t for the quiet chants of ‘please’ he’d have thought you really were crying.
you could feel your orgasm approaching soon, and as if like he could read your mind L lifted a hand to push your shirt up above your chest and dipped his head down to take one of your nipples in his mouth, sucking so gently compared to the harshness of his cock.
your arms wrapped around his head, hands tugging at the roots of his hair which earned you a deep groan into your chest. with every thrust you were getting closer and closer, his mouth having moved on to kiss your neck with the same desperation he’s harboured since the first time.
“i’m so close, god please don’t stop. —feels so good.” you begged, throat dry and still panting and holding his hair for dear life.
“fuck,” he began losing the rhythm he had been trying to keep to, “i’m— i’m going to orgasm. i need you, please.”
his hips started to stutter as he reached his peak, panting and whining into your ear and wrapping his arms tightly around your back. the feeling of you coming undone and squeezing around him just made it that much more intense, his face felt so hot he buried it into the crook of your neck.
by the time both of your movements had come to a halt, he was laying back in the chair clutching onto you, head still held tightly to your chest and cock beginning to go soft inside you. L never wanted to move.
the embarrassment and nervousness was slowly returning and he felt his cheeks get hot again, so he tried to focus on the sweet smell of your shampoo that engulfed him to calm himself.
after a few long, perfect minutes, you broke the silence, “was that okay?”
“that was amazing.” his head remained tucked into your neck, “i’m sorry if i wasn’t very good at it, and that i couldn’t last any longer.”
“don’t be ridiculous, L it was fantastic. we’ll have plenty of time to build up your stamina if you really want to.”
and just like that at the thought that this could happen to him more than once, he felt the blood rush back into his cock and you suddenly remembered something you’d wanted to do earlier.
“why don’t you let me show you how good you made me feel, huh?”

Note
One word prompt: nightmare.
For the nth time in as many days, Light startles awake and the chain goes taut. L dutifully gets up from his desk and follows Light to the en suite to watch him throw up into the toilet.
Leaning against the doorframe and watching Light wipe his mouth, hunched defeated over the bowl, L can't help but think this boy wouldn't make an effective serial killer if he tried.
"Nightmare," he says, remembering to tilt his tone up at the end so it's a polite question and not a flat fact.
Light's breath shudders out of him like he's been shot. "I don't know," he says. His voice is hoarse and acid-burned. His body convulses again and he dry-heaves, fingers scrabbling at the ceramic. Fetching sight, the Yagami boy. "I can't remember."
Stock-standard. Easy excuse. Almost laughable. And yet this sweet, shiny version of Light Yagami is almost compulsively believable. He could look up at L now, bright-eyed and earnest, tell him the sky was purple, and L would have to check.
Light breathes out another miserable sigh. L slouches to the bathroom sink and fills a glass with water.
"Thanks," Light says softly. "Sorry to interrupt you."
"If you're sick, it can't be helped."
"Thanks," Light says again.
When they return, L listens to Light try and settle himself in the sheets. They rustle intermittently. The chain sways.
"Light-kun can't get comfortable," says L.
"I'm sorry," Light says. "Ryuzaki, could you..."
For a moment, L worries that Light is going to ask to be held.
"Could you keep typing?" Light asks.
Typing. "What?"
"It's like white noise," says Light. "I guess it's nice knowing you're here. Working on the case even while I'm sleeping. Ryuzaki, we'll catch Kira soon, right?"
"Yes," says L. Typing. He makes a few nonsensical notes.
"Thanks," Light murmurs. He's starting to sound drowsy again. "Yeah. We'll catch him soon. Don't work too late, Ryuzaki."
L keeps typing until the chain stills, then chances a look. There's a furrow in Light's brow even as his breathing evens out. He's curled around his wrist, holding the chain like a lifeline. Like a child holds a toy.
L shifts. The chain shifts too, swiping against Light's cheek. The furrow lightens a little.

Tumblr media
Hi! I’m James, and this is my blog :^) I’ve been writing Death Note fanfiction since 5ever and this is a whole list of my OVER 50 Death Note fics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a combination of my two AO3 accounts. I have all fics with trans characters marked with a T. For avoidfilledwithcelluloid, I have fics marked E if they’re explicit. Didn’t do that for my other account, coprinus_atramentarius, because all of those fics are explicit. Most of this is Lawlight, but there’s also Mikalight, Remisa, LMisa, just to name a few others. Enjoy and make sure to leave nice comments when you’re through!
avoidfilledwithcelluloid fics
Chapter Fic
sit and stay awhile complete, T
“Light has a fantasy of sitting in L’s lap, and he’s got a plan to make that a reality.”
the art of ink and flowers  incomplete, E, T
“Light needs an apprentice and thinks he’s found the perfect one in young firecracker Mello. Now to deal with Mello’s uncle, the strange, mysterious, and - oops! - super hot florist Ryuzaki, who doesn’t want his nephew near a tattoo parlor. What could possibly go wrong?”
i could write it (better than you ever felt it) incomplete
“Light works in the To-Oh university library, where he meets his favorite romantic mystery author, Eraldo Coil, who later reveals himself to be the great detective L. Through the course of their working together to solve a crime, Light finds he might have feelings for L and those feelings might be shared by the detective novelist.”
your heart is an empty cup incomplete
“Light is the assistant manager of a Starbucks in NYC, and L is one of his most annoying customers. When L accuses Light (correctly) of being Kira, as well as mysteriously asking for his help on a different case, the barista has to decide if he’s ready to get in bed with the enemy – maybe even literally.”
the forest holds strange creatures complete, E, T
“Light, a paranormal research grad student, comes to a small town trying to find a mysterious cryptid. He finds L, a 10-foot-tall tree creature, who helps Light discover the greatest cryptid of all: love. The only reason this one is in the chapter fic section is because it includes a Halloween special chapter with the intro of Beyond Birthday into the cryptid AU.”
At Your Service complete, E, T
“The Yagami family owns the sprawling, exclusive Hotel Kitsune where all sorts of international espionage agents make their temporary home. That includes the great detective L, whose romantic tension with Light comes to a boiling point when he comes to stay after a long absence.”
best practices complete, E, T
“Light has been working his way to the top of the corporate ladder thanks to his own hard work, and his more-than-close relationship with L, the company CEO and founder’s son. Their relationship comes to a head when L challenges Light to open himself up, making him vulnerable to showing the true depth of what he feels for L and his own desire to explore sexual power dynamics.”
One-Shots
Lawlight
constricting, T
“Light breaks L’s favorite tea cup in their kitchen, and L eats him out because he loves his husband so much.”
tell me I’m good, E
“In the middle of the night, L receives a drunk call from Light, hiding in the bathroom at a party. The call, turning from desperate to horny, reveals more about Light than L wanted to know.”
if at first you don’t succeed E, T
“Light gave his first blow job and accidentally bit L on the dick. He tries to make up for his mistake by trying again.”
let me work on you E, T
“As the result of losing bet to him, Light has to be L’s computer desk – naked and laying over his boyfriend’s lap. Of course, when L gives him another sexy challenge, Light can’t help but rise to the occasion.”
Buried Alive
“L and Light live together in L’s underground bunker after the apocalypse scorches the Earth. They watch some VHS tapes and do some gardening.”
Our Little Secret E
“After getting his memories, his freedom, back, Light wants to give L a gift: Kira tied up at his mercy. But L isn’t so sure if that gift is the one he really wants.”
The Light of the Moon E, T
“L is a vampire and accidentally bites Light, who is haunted by dreams that make him question why he wants L to bite him again (and maybe … something more …)”
little animals E
“Light and his werewolf boyfriend L fuck in their backyard garden.”
Change OR the one where L and Light get married E, T, A gift fic for @ohgodplsdontlook.
“Six years after the Kira case closes, L and Light go have a wedding in the mansion where L spent his childhood summers. They bring the Yagami family, their baggage, and vows to share each other’s secrets.”
a divine power E
“L has a particular power that has helped him get confessions from even the most hardened, tight-lipped criminals, and he offers to use this power on Light to get an honest answer to the question “Are You Kira?” Not really believing L’s power is real (and also smelling an easy way to lie his way out of being caught) Light agrees to submit to this bizarre investigative power - not realizing that L is about to make him a *very* honest man. (TL;DR, L has a Magic Cock That Makes Anyone He Fucks Fall in Love With Him AU.)”
Possession E
“After being killed by his family for being Kira, Light makes a deal with the demon L to get back to the mortal realm - a very, very sexy deal.”
Fantasy of a Fantasy E, T
“While monitoring the Yagami family home for suspicious activity, L catches Light getting off to a dirty magazine and projects what he thinks his main suspect’s fantasies might be.”
the chains that bind us E, T
“Obligatory post-Yotsuba arc fic where Light is released from the handcuffs, and wants desperately to be back in bondage with L. Features a very creative use of the handcuff chain.”
Kept E, T
“Omegaverse AU where Light cooks up a horny evil scheme so that L won’t throw him in jail, and also lets him get that alpha lovin’ he so desires.”
so glad you’re home E, T
“L returns from a solo case and he and Light have a purr-fect homecoming together - including some spanking, cat ears, and a shower of sappy affection.”
Yours and Mine, E
“During a Kira case work day while handcuffed together, L and Light sneak off for some fun.”
Non-Lawlight
tell me the truth, T
“Light and Matsuda hit up a bar after work, and then Light hits up Matsuda for sex, praise, and a distraction from the deep emptiness inside him.”
alterations E, T
“Light comes to visit his boyfriend Mikami at his fancy law office and suggests they have sex there. When Mikami reacts unfavorably, Light has to do damage control, and it smarts a lot more than he expected.”
lizard E, T
“Light meets a beefcake guy at a bar on the anniversary of L’s death, and lets him take him home” (Lizard is my death note OC, and the fic was a wonderful commission from @queerical)
24-Hour Gym
“After the yellow warehouse goes (mortally) in their favor, Light and Mikami frequent the same 24-hour gym. Eventually, after seeing all his work out skills, Light asks Mikami if he can bench press *Kira*.”
a big bag of factory reject seeds
“Misa keeps seeing L's ghost around the apartment and eventually, she dreams about him. But everything is not how it seems.”
Short Fic Compliation
hand in unlovable hand
Okay so I’ve been answering Tumblr askbox prompts for over 2 years now, and this? This is ALL of the Lawlight fics. There are over 70 Lawlight fics in this compilation, with all the nsfw fics marked as such. Here are somethings you’ll find in this horde: an AU where L is fat; dirty talk; ghost sex; phone calls about buying a house; early morning tea; kissing; spanking; bondage; L’s hair being brushed; and much, much more. If you have wished for a particular type of Lawlight fic, it is probably in this bunch.
Containing Multitudes
Like i said, I’ve been answering all types of Tumblr prompts. These are all the multi-pairing fics that are not Lawlight. In over 20 fics, you’ll find Mikalight, Light/Misa, Misa/Takada, Misa/Rem, Light/Namikawa, Beyond/Light, Light/Matsuda, and even a few ones with Light and my DN OC Lizard. All nsfw fics are marked as such.
hereditary
All the Tumblr prompt fics I wrote specifically about the Yagami Family. About 4 fics long, includes a really nice couple of Sayu and Light sibling sadness fics.
bottom shelf erotica
These are the 5 fics that I wrote to fill Death Note kinkmeme prompts. They are few frills, dirty, sloppy, all bottom Light smut fics. Also, since I didn’t want to give myself away on kinkmeme they’re all cis stuff. (because really who else would have been throwing trans smut up there?)
something between us (anyway)
a slowly updating collection of 10 tumblr fic requests I received for the pairings of lawlight and (my DN OC) lizard/light, covering prompts including omegaverse, coffee shop AU, sexy lingerie, and much, much more.
kinktober 2021
updated each saturday of Oct. 2021, these five fics all revolve around lawlight and specific kinky prompts.
Gift Exchange Fics
your father’s son, T
A Secret Shinigami 2018 gift for AbbodonAbandon. Light and Soichiro have a talk about why Light quit the tennis team. Lots of trans shit in here.
in your shoes, E
A Sexy Enquirer 2019 gift for @pashmina-dhaage. L is a professor who is having a quiet relationship with one of his grad students, Light. When he sees Light through his office window stepping in mud, L rushes to give him the shoes off his feet.
wash it out
A Sexy Enquirer 2019 gift for @complicatedmerary. Mikami and Light, a pianist and violinist respectively with the same opera company, are carrying on a passionate affair while Light remains married to the opera’s soprano, Misa.
coprinus_atramentarius fics aka my smut-only ao3 account

pillow talk
“L and Light discuss his reluctance to accept Light's father's invitation to a Yagami house dinner. A little saucy conversation between two dudes who only want the worst for each other but are also a little in lust with each other. Pre-Yotsuba arc, with a still Kira!Light marinating in the joys of being evil and sleeping with the enemy.”
special, special, T
“On a packed train, Light gets felt up by someone while in his tennis uniform and likes how good they make him feel - even if it means he's being naughty. Wait until he finds out who this mystery person is ...”
To Have and To Hold, T, omegaverse junk series
“Light is an Omega learning to be comfortable in his own happiness. L is understanding what it means to take care of someone else. Together they navigate their dynamics, both Alpha/Omega and Dom/sub, in order to cultivate a deep and lasting romantic relationship. this is a multi-part work, following the first two pieces of the omegaverse junk series.”
Bottom L
Heat of the Moment, T
“L hogs the blankets in their cold-ass hotel room, and when Light complains, L drags Light's hand down to the hot, hot heat between his legs.”
made to love you, T
“Light buys an android customized to look like L, but when he finds out Mikami's peeping on he and the bot having sex, Light decides to invite the other man to partake of the perfect lover he's made.”

Birthday Boy
“Light gives L a two-part birthday gift that leaves a mark, and L gives himself a gift that involves going down on one knee.”
In Kira’s Kingdom
“Light has L imprisoned in his Kira’s Kingdom compound. L has been trying to escape and has failed for the third time. What was it they say about third time being the charm? Well, for L it’s more like the curse: the curse of having a megalomaniac freak be obsessed with keeping him and fucking him stupid, and L being super turned on by the whole thing.”
Going Up
“L and Matsuda get stuck in an elevator, and Matsuda confesses he’s always been in love with L. In an attempt to do a good deed before he dies of overheating, L says Matsuda can do whatever he wants with him. Will he regret his selflessness when he sees how big Matsuda’s dick is, or will that be L’s heavenly reward?”
good boy
“Light calls L his good boy, but L can't help misbehaving. Ruh-roh.”
Light’s Perfect Plan, T,DN Kinktober 2023
“Light and L have sex, and the only way Light can handle the fact that he might be into L is to create an elaborate plan as justification for them to have more sex.”
A Done Deal, T
“L makes a deal with Light that if he tops for a night, Light gets him as his maid during his next solo case – pretty black dress and all. But Light, ever the manipulator, can't let L just have this one.”

Lawlight ao3 fic recs
This list ended up being longer than expected. Thus, most one shots and smut fics will get their own list. I can't fit them all in here, alas.
I will probably add more fics later as I remember. Any fics published after this one [dated: 21 July, 2023] will be in a new list.
Check the summary and notes. Read the warnings and authors notes for each fic. I'm not responsible for what you end up reading, rating wise.
Bestest of the best. Go Read ASAP.
Primitive Liars
Summary: Light is a being of intellect, not of instinct; however, he may be starting to understand that the two are not mutually exclusive. While he struggles to define himself in an unjust world, a new Kira holds society - along with a couple other valuable things - hostage. Omegaverse AU.
Notes: My absolute favorite lawlight fic. Right up there with Of Music. I have probably read Primitive Liars 20-30 times and still love it. Its that good. Primitive Liars is the fic that introduced me to the abo genre and I have not found another fic that does it as good as this one does. Primitive Liars, my beloved ❤️❤️❤️
Time Speaks
Summary: In his first life, L died in the arms of his greatest enemy.
In his brief second one, he died alone.
And in his third, too-long life, L died anticipating finally getting even with the man who'd won their game one too many times.
And Light Yagami? If he'd known this is what picking up the Death Note would bring....well, he'd probably still have done it anyway.
Notes: This fic has everything. I love it. I adore it. Its tied as my favorite ao3 fic with Primitive Liars. Lawlight loop over and over, and fall in love while Playing Their Game (reference intended). Each arc has something different, each arc is amazing. Words cannot describe how much i recommend this fic. If there's one and only one lawlight fic you will ever read, it should be this one 🙏.
Decisions and Consequences
Summary: [Part 1] “Ryuzaki I think you’re right about me, I think that at one point I was Kira”. Light decides to trust L when he admits that he too suspects himself of being Kira and asks L for help in preventing him from becoming Kira again.
[Part 2] After giving up the Death Note, Light struggles with the knowledge of what he has done. No longer believing in the ideals he followed as Kira, he now has to live with the fact that he himself is what he so despised: a murderer.
Notes: This is a series of 2 fics. It has ace Light, L who loves Light, Light facing the consequences of his actions and learning to live with them. This fic takes what it does seriously. This is a journey of Light healing from being Kira and finding someone to share his life with in the process. I cannot recommend this enough. Enough of Kira getting away scott free from his actions, giving up the notebook and never facing what he has done because amnesia is a get-out-of-jail free card. This Light faces reality head on.
In The Eye Of The Snowstorm
Summary: During a cold, Colorado winter after L's defeat of Kira, Light struggles to deal with the fact that he has lost the game. But along with the bitterness of losing his New World brews something deeper: the pain from a much more personal blow dealt to Light by L on the day his godhood crumbled around him, juxtaposed against his still-lingering love for the detective. Across five scenes where Light refuses to admit he's still in love with L, and one scene where he finally does - the two learn to live together again despite the storm that they've created.
Notes: People often forget that for the Kira case, it's ultimately L's decision on how it ends. L is the detective in charge of the case, L is the one with connections, resources and authority who could have both saved and/or condemned Light even if they had been in a relationship. In short: their relationship and its future was ultimately L's choice. This is a true compromise fic. Which can also be seen as an L wins fic. I love how soft it was and how they get their happy ending without either of them compromising their morals or thoughts, despite being in love.
Into The Grey
Summary: Light is a young, hot, reclusive Omega who follows all the rules and does it all right. Except when he's sneaking out to capture criminals as the vigilante only known as Kira. L will always and forever be the world's greatest detective, but the Alpha might have a little competition in the Kanto region of Japan.
In a world just barely free of Omega oppression, these two geniuses find themselves in a race against the clock and each other.
Notes: Another Lawlight abo fic. This is my one of my favorite abo fics, mixing a new case, a new take on death note characters in a world without shinigami. I love the dynamics and the political backstory this fic explores throughout the plot. The world building is amazing. I love it.
Seeking His Hand
Summary: Soichiro asks: "Why do you want to marry my son?"
L stares at him for a moment, then sighs almost imperceptibly. "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. …or husband."
A historical regency-esque romance AU in which L seeks Light's hand in marriage. And that's only the beginning.
Notes: Regency Era lawlight AU. Yes!
Heirs and Spares
Summary: L and Light are all that remain of the first generation of Wammy House kids. L's the world's greatest detective and Light runs the House cultivating a new generation of geniuses into useful positions. They're rivals first and family second. But Watari suggests, in case of emergencies, it makes sense for them to legally be each other's next of kin. Light's not so sure he wants to marry L, despite the logic of the suggestion, but L's seemingly on board with the idea. Or is it his idea in the first place…?
Notes: Growing up together at Wammy's AU! Yesyesyesyes!!! This is my favorite fic by TrashKing.
Death Wish
Summary: Death Note users don’t go to heaven or hell. Instead, Ryuk sends Light to an alternative universe where the Death Note exists but it doesn’t fall within his grasp. Even though he doesn’t have the Death Note, L still suspects him and the worst part is that in this new world he is an omega. Hilarity ensues.
Notes: Summary is accurate. I really can't say more because that would be spoilers.
The Sweet Taste Of Silver
Summary: Email after email…It only made Light sicker to look at them. Final notice. Past due. Expulsion threats. He knew going to one of the best schools in the country would be pricey, but that's what his scholarships were for, right? At least until they start running out. At least he'll have his internship…And his new employer.
Notes: The lawlight sugarbaby AU. Has a sequel from Ryuk's PoV, which is absolutely hilarious.
Sit and Stay A While
Summary: "The obsession prodded again, pushing at him, but Light didn’t let it near his mouth. He shoved it down, hard, until it thundered down the cellar stairs of his mind palace. Sulking below all his appropriate thoughts was the insistent wanting that made him avoid L’s gaze – the desire to sit in L’s lap."
(Light has a fantasy of sitting in L's lap, and he's got a plan to make that a reality.)
Notes: Light wants to sit in L's lap. He has a 12 step plan for it. Light is good at planning, so he achieves his goal.
Shining Light
Summary: Bored beyond comprehension, Ryuk decides after seeing what humans do with the Death Note, to experiment with what would happen if a human lived their whole life with access and knowledge of the Death Note. This leads him to find four-month-old Light Yagami, whom he decides to use as his test subject and has a little fun.
Light's parents, as with anybody else, can't see Ryuk and thus think Light is possessed, so while trying to find answers, Soichiro turns to a young cadet for assistance taking care of his son.
Light grows up knowing he is different but rarely bored with Ryuk by his side throughout his whole life and having little interest in using the Death Note, training in Shinigami magic and learning the ways of the world instead. But things become interesting when, after multiple incidents regarding his secret, someone else with the Death Note begins using it as the mass killer known as Kira.
Add in a dumbfounded detective and a task force all aware of Light's situation and far past caring, and Ryuk knows he made the right choice because he's found plenty of entertainment, even though he has to fight the protective instinct he's developed towards Light.
Notes: There are many things I love about this AU. The first and foremost being its world building.
Is This The Way It Ends Now
Summary: L dangled the note in front of him. It had appeared out of nowhere, as had the accompanying CD. It claimed to contain information crucial to their investigation.
Was this a trick? Another evolution of Kira's power? Perhaps a different supernatural force trying to help them against Kira?
He didn't know, but the only way to find out was to view it.
Notes: This fic is here because of three reasons. That its good and well written. That its the only complete series watch fic. And that I love this fic. However, I am aware this fic and its take on Kira isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Better than the rest
Honey In Your Tea
Summary: Light falls with a cup of hot coffee in hand. L is to blame.
Notes: A blind!Light AU. Light is not Kira AU too. So soft and sweet and tender and I just can't-
The Execution Of All Things
Summary: "I want to be soft, to say here is my underbelly and I want you to hold the knife, but I don’t know what I want you to do: plunge or mercy. I deserve both. I want to hold and be held." – Nicole Homer
A world where Light is shot by Higuchi at the end of episode 7 and doesn't regain his memories or the Note.
Notes: The one and only lawlight fic for the TV drama. Well, not really. There are other fics too. But this one, is my favorite of them all.
Fifteen Stories Down
Summary: When a series of explosions brings down a hotel in the heart of Tokyo, Detective Light Yagami finds himself trapped in the company of the strangest man he's ever met.
Notes: An excellent Light is not Kira AU, with adult!Light and L meeting down the line.
Bodach Killa
Summary: Having found Light's deadly notebook, L sees but one way to force a confession out of him: become his closest friend and confidant. To this purpose, L goes undercover to To-Oh, as Kira supporting college student Hideki Ryuga. Somewhere along the way of this ethically questionable quest, L finds the friend he'd been missing all along.
Notes: L finds early proof of the death note. The case takes a whole new direction.
Wordplay
Summary: Three murders in Japan mark the beginning of what seems to be a slightly abnormal copycat case. However, it turns into a much more complicated scheme that pushes L and Light to their limits in order to solve it and catch the killer.
Notes: A case fic with adult lawlight that's more about Light and Sayu's relationship. Lawlight is there too.
Passengers
Summary: It comes in the middle of the night, on the eve of L's death. Both L and Light find themselves on a train right out of science fiction, handcuffed and totally unprepared.
Notes: Lawlight crossover with infinity train. No prior knowledge of Infinity train required.
Bluebird
Summary: Light Yagami had always found his day to day life menial and mundane. He was startled out of his boredom by the sudden appearance of the supernatural mass murderer, Kira. Light had certainly not expected his last year of high school and first year of college to be so convoluted and stressful as the greatest detective in the world suspects him of being the greatest mass murderer in history. Light must work with L to catch the real Kira before it's too late.
Notes: Light isn't Kira in this AU. Someone else, an original character, is Kira. And that takes the plot in a whole new direction. That is what I love about this fic.
Hidden
Summary: All gammas are the same, seen as basically genderless they are raised equally before presenting as either alpha females or male omegas.
Light Yagami never really cared about his gamma status until other's took notice. Fearful of spending life as a kept omega, Light will fight against anything, including his own instincts, to be seen as an alpha instead.
But fighting one's dynamic isn't easy.
Light just hopes it isn't impossible.
Notes: A fic that explores the social problems inherent in an typical abo world.
Tangled
Summary: L and Light divorced ten years ago and split the kids. When Mello demands to meet his twin brother L is forced to reassemble the family unit and co-parent with Light while they figure out a new custody arrangement. But, despite all that’s been said and done, feelings linger and both parties start to wonder if there are pieces of their broken marriage that can be salvaged?
Notes: Ex and established lawlight AU. Lawlight as parents in this AU. It's wonderfully done and I love it.
Introduction To Muggle Studies By Yagami Light
Summary:
How to use a Death Note - Rule 4: The person in possession of the Death Note is possessed by a god of death, its original owner, until they die.
ICW Classification of Magical Beings - A muggle possessed or bonded with a magical being, similar to a muggle infected by a werewolf and surviving, is no longer a classified as a muggle. They are, for all intents and purposes, a wizard/witch.
Notes: This one was a tough choice for me, for various reasons. But in the end, I put it here because yes, it's a fun read! A crossover between Harry Potter and Death Note. Fake character death, lots of pining, long distance lawlight relationship. Knowledge of Harry Potter needed upto book 4.
Back Again
Summary: What is Light to do when he wakes up after his life as a Shinigami is over, only to find himself with both his memories and his life back to the way it was before…with the Death Note in his school bag?
Notes: Lawlight AU where Light time travels.
Touch Starved
Summary: L's a Blue Poison Dart, an endangered species closely related to the blue poison dart frog. His life has been difficult, prejudiced and overall touch-starved. But he spends his days as L, the world's greatest detective, who's species is undisclosed to the general populace. When other endangered species start dying and disappearing in Japan, he decides he must travel there to solve the case.
On the way, he meets the Kitsune Light, a Japanese 9-tailed fox. They start a relationship, L unaware that he's next on Light's list.
Notes: Another amazing fic by Pyreneese. L as a poison dart frog, Light as a Kitsune.
Change OR the one where L and Light get married
Summary: L wasn’t a good driver; he could admit that, to himself. Since he and Quillsh were the only ones who knew the route to the old Wammy summer home, L wasn’t surprised to be behind the wheel. (Thankful, maybe, that he had the forethought to secure this little automatic Volkswagen rather than flounder on the stick shift Quillsh always tried to teach him.) He dared to be happy about his driver role, even; it was appropriate that he chauffeured Light to where they’d be married in a day’s time. Something romantic about crossing the threshold, carrying his love into his world – L stuck out his tongue. Long drives made him corny.
(At Quillsh Wammy's summer mansion, L and Light prepare to get married in front of the Yagami family, Watari, and the ghosts of their past.)
Notes: What do you mean, this isn't how canon ended? Aka the lawlight happy ending AU that they deserve.
Sail The Wildest Stretch
Summary: Light Yagami has a Final Destination-esque vision of his seven years as Kira. He wakes up in his high school on the day he receives the Death Note. What will he do differently, knowing the future?
Notes: What can I say, I have a weakness for lawlight time travel fics.
Do It Again, L!
Summary: "The moment L’s eyes close at the time of his death, he awakes in a panic in his bed.... Before L can move forward, he would need to perform tests.... The things he knows right now: .... He had just gone from dying of a heart attack in Japan to lying in his bed over 6,000 miles away in a blink of an eye. He distinctly remembers being 25 years old, but now he looks closer to ten. "
Notes: After 2 fics with Light going back in time, it's L's turn to time travel.
Throw the dice and play with me
Summary: You don’t forget how to play the game just because you lost at it and Light had their instructions manual permanently etched into his very soul.
L wins AU! in which Light has been in jail for two years when L shows up asking for his help with a case. Light desperately wants to help, he missed their competition and has been very bored without it but he feels that L is hiding something. Still, Light helps hesitantly, all the while trying to figure out what game the detective is playing at. Meanwhile, L is willing to play at any game, as long as Light plays with him.
Notes: An L wins fic, this fic has L coming back for Light. Light is, of course, still hurt by his time in prison and the lack of trust everyone except L shows him. L is there to catch light and put him back together. I loved reading this because it was not as dark as some other "L wins and Light in prison" fics get, but still tackles the issues it presents.
Corruption
Summary: After the LA BB murder case Naomi Misora has finally returned to work for the FBI as planned. Her first task on her return, requested through the pipeline by L, is to interrogate Beyond Birthday, who has not told any of the investigators anything about his crimes up to that point.
Beyond proves himself useful to the FBI to help solve the cases that they are stuck on, and so Naomi is sent back again and again, and gradually is drawn into Beyond's web.
Notes: Wherein Beyond gets together with Naomi and plays matchmaker for lawlight.
Another Path
Summary: Rem makes a different call (based from Episode 15 of the TV series).
Notes: Rem confesses to L that Light was Kira. L, attached to Light by now, decides he is a better choice for Light than death or prison. This fic has a novel approach to L wins post Yotsuba arc. I don't remember except that I enjoyed it.
Hurt, Angst, Tragedy, Whump. Mixed with Comfort and Bittersweet endings, for a treat.
Who Am I and Who Are You?
Summary: Light has been under suspicion of being Kira for far too long. After his girlfriend, Misa Amane, falls under suspicion for actual DNA evidence tying her to the case. Light then goes into confinement. And even after he has gone to extreme lengths to prove that there is no way he could be Kira, L still doubts him. Because L just KNOWS Light Yagami is Kira. The only way for L to be assured of Light's innocence or guilt is to become handcuffed to him. And no matter how long it takes, L will get a confession. No matter what he has to do, he will find out the truth. And Light will do anything to save his own life, to convince L that he isn't Kira. Even at the cost of his own sanity. This is all just a game, but a game that could be deadly.
Notes: Ever thought what if Light really wasn't Kira, he was really a scapegoat and L went on Hard Mode during Yotsuba arc? This is that fic. I love this version more than the rewrite, because this one has a happy ending. Bittersweet ending. As happy as it can be, anyways. A whump, hurt/comfort fic, this fic balances veryyyy nicely between hurt and comfort.
Note2: This fic has a second version, a sort of rewrite. That version is a very bad ending for lawlight. I won't link it here, but those industrious ones of you who enjoy such fics can look it up in the author works.
Genius Is A Curse
Summary: If Light had never touched the Death Note, would he ever have found an escape from the depression and boredom that plagued him? Would he have had a future at all?
Notes: This... isn't exactly lawlight. This is more L and Light. However, imo, lawlight undertones are there. It might just be the shipping fan in me speaking though. This fic isn't for the faint hearted. It's depressing. Light is depressed, L is depressed, at a point they both get suicidal. I don't suggest reading it in one go. I also suggest being at least 21+ when reading it. Please, read the tags, mind the warnings and be safe mentally when you read this fic.
A Thin Veil
Summary: There is a thin veil between sadism and masochism, life and death, order and chaos, and all of this becomes apparent as Light comes up with his most sadomasochistic plan yet, willingly subjecting himself to illness and an agonizing death to force the hand of the task force and scare them into dropping the case, as well as prove his "innocence."
While L suspects that this is all somehow Light's doing, he finds it harder and harder to watch Light suffer as he gets increasingly ill, even if he wants to help catch Kira with the limited amount of time he has left. L refuses to lose the game, but at the same time finds the idea of losing Light to be equally unpleasant, leading him to search frantically for a loophole or capture Kira before Light dies as collateral damage.
Notes: Light will do anything to prove himself as not-Kira. Including forcing himself through sickness- Uncaring of the emotional tolI it would take on himself and everyone around him. I was looking for hurt or sick Light fics other than the one with religious undertones. And I found an alt sick Light fic. This one. It was well worth the search as oh boy does Light prove to all and sundry just how much he is willing to sacrifice for his 'New World'.
Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This
Summary: L has always struggled with insomnia and sleep paralysis. But the Kira Case is making it worse. He knows that if he continues like this, he'll end up self-destructing.
Notes: L and Light are both in a bad place. They help each other recover.
Grip me tight (won't you love me before you go)
Summary: Engaged Lawlight but Light isn't Kira and is killed by Kira for being with L.
Notes: Short, to the point, ripped my heart out in less than 1000 words.
Reflections
Summary: L spends a day with Light. Everything is as it should be.
Notes: A sad tragedy fic. This fic is here as a break before we go into truly bad ending and psychological horror/thriller fics.
I Will Follow You Into The Dark
Summary: Four hundred and ninety days.
Less cryptically, L kidnaps Light, perhaps for reasons all his own.
Notes: L is a sadistic bastard. Not in the whump way. L wants to win, L wants to defeat Kira, L wants Light. And L will do anything for it, Light's wishes and well-being be damned. There is no comfort here.
Inked
Summary: Light Yagami keeps his soulmark hidden at all times. L wants to know what it looks like. Things ensue.
Notes: A soulmate AU where L isn't Light's soulmate. That doesn't stop L.
A Balm For Social Failure
Summary: L begins to suspect something is missing from his life. He believes the key to be in social interaction - his weak point. At the appearance of the enigma named Light Yagami, he is challenged to rise to the occasion.
Notes: Light is a bastard. This has a happy ending, in a way. But the journey there is filled with dubious triggers.
Fade
Summary: When a mysterious notebook falls from the sky, bearing the story of a world in which Kira reigns supreme, L is forced into a desperate struggle to change both his fate and the fate of the world. But his attempts are complicated when he discovers that he only holds half of the story—and that the other half resides with the living paradox that is Light Yagami. The resulting chaos finds two geniuses from different worlds thrown together, racing to change the future.
Notes: This fic.... I like to pretend that L and Light reached Wammy's and that's where it ends. That it has a happy ending. But it does not. It took my heart, filled it, and then stomped it to the ground.
Prisoners
Summary: L got enough evidence to imprison Light but not destroy him. Two years into Light's confinement L is desperate to move the dial towards a decisive victory and close the Kira case once and for all but he’s not sure how much of his own mind he’ll have to crack into pieces to do that. Especially when there’s a very real chance Light’s lost his mind entirely.
Notes: Usually, I only read and rec happy ending fics. I remember reading this one, without checking the warnings. Its been a long time since, but I still remember this fic and believe it has to be here. Check the warning tag before reading, guys!
You're 38, Light
Summary: On Light's 38th birthday, he has a special visitor, triggering many memories.
Notes: This fic makes me sick. It's good as a bad ending fic, but oh gosh, why, just kill Light already, L.
Crack & Crack Taken Seriously (yes, both are different)
Dealing With Shinigami
Summary: Meet Prince Light, a prince who, to the public's eye, is everything a prince is meant to be—handsome, brilliant, hand-working, kind, polite. In actuality, he is hot-headed and headstrong, has strong sense of justice that goes against how the kingdom runs...
And bored.
So bored that news of an arranged marriage leads him to run away to live with a Shinigami. And not just any Shinigami, but Ryuk—one of the most powerful, dangerous, and equally bored Shinigami around. Of course, Light has a way of hooking up with dangerous characters, and soon he's coping with a witch, a jinn, a death-dealing talking bird, a stone prince, and some very irritating Yotsuba wizards. Eventually, he will find the not-very-kingly King of the Enchanted Forest who may sweep him off his feet.
If the prince ran away to find some excitement, it looks like he's found plenty.
Notes: A fairy tale world with death note characters. Meet Light as a prince who is bored, L is a king who is lonely, Ryuk as a shinigami who is looking for fun. The world building uses classic tropes for fun, the character interaction leaves me wanting more, I love everything about this fic.
Welcome To The Family
Summary: L has concluded that Light is Kira but due to his own conflicted feelings instead of arresting Light or having him executed as he promised he kidnaps Light and dumps him at Wammy's House…
Notes: My favorite "Light gets taken to Wammy's" AU. Too bad it stops at the best time.
Yagami Light can have a little mental breakdown, as a treat.
Summary: In which Light goes through the five stages of grief, Misa is a good friend, L has the best night of his life, and everybody else is just along for the ride.
(AKA: The uni AU in which Light has a crush and doesn't know it until everybody else does as well).
Notes: Lawlight university AU. Misa helps Light "denial isn't just a river in Egypt" Yagami reach enlightenment. L "idiot in love and doesnt know how to flirt" Lawliet, the target of said crush, gets front row seats to the discussion.
The Complaints Box
Summary: "Gentlemen," he addressed everyone in the room with a meaningful glance, then focused on the cardboard box, "It is my understanding that ever since we've moved into this building, relationships between you all have been... tense. Petty arguments are not constructive for the workplace; therefore, I have decided to introduce a conflict preventative measure, a source of stress relief if you will."
In which, Watari decides that everyone in the office needs to begin venting their stress like mature adults. And within those pages were not rants worthy of a therapist's shrine, but a documented love story...
Notes: A fun and amusing read. Watari has such great ideas.
Eat, Fight, Love
Summary: L was perfectly content to live out a solitary existence among his sweets and puzzles, and never considered that one day he might actually have to beat the shit out of his soulmate upon seeing them for the first time.
Yes, what absolute nonsense.
Notes: Where soulmates punch each other at first sight.
Unexpected Little Guest
Summary: Sayu and her husband decides to go on a vacation for two weeks and leave their eight years old daughter, Mei, in the hands of Light and L.
Light had thought about starting a family for quite some time, so he gladly accepts it to see what kind of a father L would be with this little adventure.
L, on the other hand is everything but happy about this. But in this two weeks, he develops something for the little girl that he didn't expect at all...
Notes: Established lawlight. Light wants a child. Sayu needs a babysitter. Light has an idea.
Basket Case
Summary: During the day, he writes names on coffee cups. At night, he writes names in the Death Note. Now starting his third year at To-Oh, Light Yagami didn’t think his life could get any more complicated. Until L Lawliet came and screwed everything up.
A college AU where Light is Kira but L isn't a detective.
Notes: A fun AU where Light is Kira, L isn't a detective and Ryuk ships it.
This Isn't A Noir Film
Summary: Moving to Los Angeles was not Light's best idea. It's blazing hot, always on fire, the traffic is the worst, and the mafia is acting up all over again. When Rod Ross is found not guilty yet again on murder charges and the murders start up again, Light joins a taskforce with decidedly eccentric people who could all only be described as complete and utter pricks. He should be more worried about what's happening to the city he lives in and the people he's sworn to serve and protect, but honestly, he's a bit more concerned at how well he fits in with these weirdos.
Notes: A fic set in the backdrop of LA. I don't recall much about this fic except that it's good.
Treaty
Summary: When Great Britain and Japan come to an agreement on a major treaty between the two countries, there is a long standing requirement between the country's packs that must be upheld. A match between a high ranking or highly valued Alpha and Omega must be made between the countries as a sign of good faith. With all of the official nobility of age already mated in both countries, Great Britain selects an Alpha, the World's Greatest Detective as their representative. While the country of Japan, provides their best and brightest, the attractive son of the distinguished Chief of the NPA, Light Yagami.
Both L and Light are thrown in as reluctant participants. Each with their own secrets, personal challenges and life ambitions. Can they find a way to happily co-exist or will the obstacles they face prove too much to overcome?
Notes: This is a lawlight abo AU which is crack taken seriously. So dont take the fic seriously, alright? OOC abound.
Koi No Yokan
Summary: Koi no yokan 恋の予感: the feeling upon first meeting someone that you will inevitably fall in love with them.
Light decides to take a little risk and seek a no-strings-attached hookup and gets a surprising (accidental) match. Light and L gradually open up to each other over the course of a night, not knowing who the other is. However, as they go back to their lives in the morning, suspicions take hold and secrets come to light. The chance meeting starts to feel a lot more like fate as L closes in on Kira, and both must decide whether they felt anything real for the other and what that means. This decision is only the first of many as Light plans his New World and L finds out sinister secrets about his childhood and Wammy’s House.
Notes: The ultimate death note conspiracy fic. This fic has boldly gone where no fic has gone before. No regrets, no takebacks. Leave logic outside the door. There will be no fic that can compare to the twists and turns this one takes, ever again.
The Japanese Brooklyn 99
Summary:
Aizawa: We are NOT naming this chat ‘The Japanese Brooklyn 99’!
Matsuda: I don’t see why we can’t? Just because you’re too embarrassed to admit you’re not cool enough to be Rosa does not mean we cannot name this group chat that name. Besides, it’s a good name!
Ide: Why am I here again?
...In which Matsuda makes a group chat and all goes to chaos.
Notes: Death Note fic which is set in Modern era and with a group chat. The obligatory group chat fic where everything is nice, nobody hurts (for long), and everyone has a happy ending.
Todokete!
Summary:
Soichiro: What exactly is the point of this again?
Matsuda: so we can all talk even when we’re not together, duh!
so anyway…
how do we feel about the de-sexification of the green m&m?
Light: matsuda, respectfully, shut the fuck up
Matsuda creates a Discord server for the task force to communicate in. Between L's awkward attempts to make friends, Misa and Matsuda's constant Love Live references, and the stress of Light being a suspect, the rest of the team is in for a wild ride.
Or, the ridiculous chatfic that no one asked for.
Notes: Another Yotsuba arc chat grp fic. Lots of memes and references. The summary says it all.
Consolation Prize
Summary: As a special prize for writing so many names in the Death Note, Kira becomes a catboy.
Notes: Catboy!Light. Enough said.

The Name Game
Summary: Light really hates the customer that keeps coming up with the worst fake names for his orders.
Five times L gave a fake(sorta) name for his tea to annoy the irritable, pretty barista and the one time he tells him his actual name.
Notes: Lawlight coffee shop AU! Woo hoo!
The Mello Situation
Summary: Or how Near decides to use L and Light's fumbling attempts to be together to develop his own relationship goals. Post canon, alternative ending.
Notes: Wherein Near asks relationship advice from L. It goes as well as can be expected.
Deus Ex Saiki
Summary: Ten year old Kusuo Saiki decides he's tired of Kira's shenanigans so he's gonna solve the problem himself.
It may not have been worth it.
Notes: Saiki does a short, quick fix of the Kira situation and everyone is happier for it.
A,B,C,DeathNote!
Summary:
A collection of what were meant to be oneshot ficlets (but ended up as an interlinked series) for each letter of the Alphabet.
Set during the YotsubaArc, this is the story of how Light and L fell in love amidst the Kira case and their developing relationship from secret lovers to husbands.
Notes: I don't remember much about this fic except that it was good and that it is crack.

Chapter 7 ( L X Reader)
ANALYZER
WC: 1061
MASTERLIST
-Chapter 6
A/N: AHHHH IM SO SORRY FOR TAKING FOREVER TO UPDATE!!!! I HAD SO MUCH GOING ON IN MY LIFE, TO HAVING WRITTERS BLOCK FOR THIS STORY TO HAVING TO WATCH DEATH NOTE A BILLION TIMES AGAIN TO GET NEW IDEAS! FORGIVE ME! i hope y'all enjoy and let me know what you guys think about this chapter!!!!
Tumblr media
Though L had told me he was going to make more time in which we would be able to meet and just get to know one another, but given the situation that we are in, time isn’t in our favor. I’ve been watching the 24/7 surveillance footage we have on yotsoba meetings. I have grown tired of hearing plan after plan, after plan.  The Only real interaction or meet was when we would go eat.
“Mmm i think i like the creme brulee cheesecake over your black forest cake.” I mumble as i take another bite of my slice of cake. L on the other hand is just taking chunks out of every slice in front of him.
“ I just enjoy the taste of sugar.” L mumbles with his mouth full.
“ The point of trying cakes is to taste the flavors.”
“ I like sugar.”
“ you said that already.”
“ Then let us discuss something you haven’t heard before Y/N/N. Tell me, how do you think Kira kills? given how much you’ve watched these recordings, i trust that you would be able to come up with a conclusion.`` L leads the conversation.
“ Ryuzaki we said nothing about the case.”
“My apologies, I can’t help but think about anything else.” L rubs his pointer and thumb together as he rolls around the sugar sprinkles, before sucking the sugar off his fingers.
“ Fine, during the meetings theres a lot of numbers, days and ways on how one might be killed or die. There can be a few options all of which cannot be described without some type of supernatural power. One being they, Kira, speaks it into existence.. But that would require some type of God who can do such things. The Other thing is writing it down. Now this one more specifically is what caught my attention. During all the meetings, everyone had a notebook and a pen in front of them but none were used. Except for one, Higuchi . He fiddles with a pen often, and his pen is the only one that’s different from the rest. Indicating it's personal, and this item alone holds some time of significant use to him. Fiddling with the pen can express confidence or the depiction of some type of power.. But again, if he is writing it down, then how do the deaths occur? Unless something of supernatural power is in charge.” I explain before picking up a cheesecake slice and taking a small cut from the end of the slice.
“ Are you saying something of a shinigami? I have to say I’ll be disappointed, as they are nothing but some folklore.”  L sighs before staring up at me with his gray orbs.
“ Folklore might sound crazy, but the human brain is not capable of creating or making up things, unless it was seen before. As a result I would not knock the idea, and based on how both Light and Misa reacted when they were confined was like they were no longer under some trance, dare I say even under a control of a spirit or being. Their body language in itself changed drastically, more so with light based on the footage. During his confinement I was able to see small lip movements that read “ Get rid of it.” It was moments after that when his body language changed from annoyance.. To confusion. Light’s body language is never abrupt, always calm..Light likes to articulate his movements and his responses to things. So that quick change in demeanor is what concerns me..”
“And you think that the new Kira is now Higuchi.” L states with a firmness to his voice.
“ If I have to put my bet, I’d say it was him and Namikawa is the one who calls the shots before Higuchi does anything.”
“ I see.. But there were two kiras at one point.. Do you think that the second kira could be Namikawa Y/N/N?”
“I believe that at this very moment there’s only one Kira, which makes my theory of writing in something like a book stronger. When Light said “ get rid of it” what does “ it” refer to if not an object . As a result, if we are talking about let’s say some book, then at this very moment the second book hasn’t been possessed or hasn't possessed a person yet.. If Namikawa were the second kira, I don't believe he would be giving Higuchi some type of approval/ or direction of what to do, he would just do it himself.”
“ I agree, I just don’t see how believing in some type of power in an object or being is gonna help us solve the case. If the way of killing can be transmitted between person to person, whether it be through a book or by some type of spiritual possession, the catching of Kira would be impossible.” L argues back with reason as expected.
“ Well it all depends, if we are looking for an object, then maybe the destruction of the object can end the killings. But if it is some type of possession of spirit that jumps from person to person. Then the goal is to look for the type of person the spirit is drawn to. But of course that would be a stretch and as you said, would probably be impossible to solve. But given that at one point Light was Kira, I find it hard to believe that someone who murdered so many people would have no recollection of any of it. Making it be that the person has control on if they can erase their memory and bring it back when needed. Which makes me think that Light could still be Kira without even knowing it anymore.."
“ Y/N/N, I have to say your reasoning on things goes beyond my reasoning. I only deal with the facts and the logical explanation of things. If it cannot be proven then it cannot be used as a fact to support evidence.  But you use evidence to create a fact, to make a logical explanation, which is interesting. But it might all be interesting to me, simply for the fact that I cannot believe in some type of supernatural power. But I will leave that to you.” L speaks in a monotone voice, not sounding too fond of my reasoning.
“ I like the bigger picture, not the small details Ryuzaki.”
With a side glance L looks at me but returns to his cake, lifting his feet onto the chair and sitting in his weird position and finishes his cake, with not another word to me. His energy shifted from that of being open to that of being closed off. Was it my tone? No. It was that I’m challenging his logical way of thinking with a more elaborate explanation of what could be and not what is.

Good Boys Deserve Fun 🍒
Lawlight workplace praise kink Not sponsored by Office 365 1k words Read here or on AO3 L decides to show off his remarkable cherry-knotting skills. Light describes his equally remarkable Microsoft Excel skills. Content notes: This is unrepentantly horny but there’s no actual sexual content in it, technically speaking
Light was trying really very hard to ignore what was going on beside him.
He was working. He was trying to work. He was trying to catch the world’s most prolific serial killer, and also incidentally rescue himself from a lifetime of imprisonment while his chainmate, his supervisor, his jailer and the three foremost detectives in the world was busily knotting a large bowl of bright red cherries with his tongue.
Light stared very hard at his Excel spreadsheet. Cells, he decided, were important. Enrapturing. These particular ones were, quite literally, depicting the powers of life and death, and he had never before been so fascinated. He could hear the little plink of L’s cherry seeds hitting the ceramic bowl Watari had brought along with the cherries.
He colour-coded a row, then assigned some conditional formatting.
Plink. Plink. Plink.
Finally, at the end of his rope, he spun around to face L. L looked up, one cheek stuffed.
“What,” Light said, “are you doing?”
L stared at him, wide-eyed and disturbingly innocent. He looked very much like a lemur. As Light watched, he swallowed what Light assumed to be the meat of the fruit, then stuck out his tongue, plucked a knotted stem off of it, and tossed it into his bowl.
Plink.
“Practising,” he said.
Light died several varieties of deaths. “What are you practising for,” he said, flat.
“I’ve been occupied,” L said. “For quite some time. Stuck in here with you. People always say it’s like riding a bicycle. But I’ve never found that to be true. Well. Not with this in particular — I’ve never gone so long without, so I wouldn’t know — but with skills more broadly, you understand.”
For a solid thirty seconds, Light considered telling L that he was in fact Kira after all. He wasn’t, but it would facilitate L putting him out of his misery.
“Okay,” he said, finally. “Well. I’m happy for you. Have fun.”
He spun back around.
“Would Light-kun like to try?” L said, from beside him.
Light turned around again.
“No,” he said. “Light-kun would not. Light-kun is busy doing Ryuzaki-san’s job. Can you please fu—could you please focus.”
L reached into his bowl and plucked out a fresh cherry. “Are you sure? It might not be as difficult as Light-kun thinks.”
“I don’t care if it’s difficult,” Light said. “You’re just being really, really annoying.”
L shook the cherry. It wobbled.
“Go on,” L said. “Give it a shot.”
Light exhaled, heavily. He shut his eyes, and opened them again. “Fine,” he said. “Fine. Whatever. I played clarinet in high school. I’ll tie your stupid cherry.” He held out his hand, but L pulled the cherry away.
“Ah-ah-ah,” he said. “Only good boys deserve fun.”
“What,” said Light.
“Tell me what tricks you’ve preformed,” L said. “Tell me why Light-kun deserves a treat.”
“I — what? I’m sorry?”
L grabbed the edge of the table and pulled his rolling chair forwards. He peered over Light’s shoulder. “Ah,” he purred. “I see Light-kun is using Microsoft Excel.”
“What the fuck,” said Light.
“What has my lovely Light-kun done with Microsoft Excel to earn himself a sweet?”
“I — I added conditional formatting? To the dates of death?”
“Mm,” L said. His voice was low and liquid, coiling dark. He leaned closer. Light could feel the heat of his body, hovering just above his shoulder. “Did Light-kun utilize a formula?”
“It — yes,” he said. His voice came out shaky. “I. Yes. It uses a formula.”
“Which functions does Light-kun’s pretty little formula use?” His voice was right next to Light’s ear. Light could feel the vibrations of it beneath his breaths.
“It uses an equal-to operator and an IF function to reference a table on a separate sheet.” Light said, breathless. Then he shook his head. This was the weirdest and most bewilderingly erotic thing that had ever happened to him. His stomach felt very tight and fluttery.
“Well,” L said. “Then he’s been a very good boy indeed. Open your mouth.”
Light did. L reached over and popped the cherry in between his lips. It was stuck for a moment, smooth and sweet, and then all of a sudden it was there, in his mouth, on his tongue. Light experienced a brief and very disorienting moment of bliss, then entirely forgot what he was doing and swallowed the cherry whole, stem, seed and all.
He looked up. L was staring at him, his black eyes wide. Light couldn’t see his pupils at all.
“Light-kun has a remarkable gag reflex,” L said, calmly.
Light swallowed again. His throat hurt from the stem. “I take a multivitamin,” he said, croakily. “It’s not chewable.”
“Mm.” L stood up. He tugged very lightly on the chain and Light, disoriented and compelled by the circumstances of his being, stood with him. He felt dazed.
L looked back at him, benign, as if nothing out of the ordinary had just happened. “Well, this day has been a bust,” he said, perkily. “I’m going to call it and make us some cheese and crackers. Maybe some tea.” He paused. “Unless …”
He was very, very clearly fishing for a response. Light stared at him. L stared back at him. After a moment, undeterred, L went on. “Unless Light-kun would like to come to our bedroom and help me practise.”
“I,” said Light. “I. I think.” He looked at L, who was watching him, unruffled. “Okay,” he said, weakly. “Okay. Yes. Let’s. If you really need the help.”
L smiled at him. “Light-kun is very generous,” he said. “It’s much appreciated.” Then he coiled the chain once around his wrist, tugged very gently, and headed for the stairs.
Light glanced back at the computers, considered, then decided that he had, in fact, been very good all day. All week. Most of his life, in fact. If the very best detectives in the world said so, who was he to argue? He followed.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Story Arc Ranking
Elaboration from yesterday's post, plus including the Duel Monsters anime.
MANGA:
-Duelist Kingdom Arc: I strongly feel like this is the story arc where Kazuki Takahashi got just about everything right. It's where he fully fleshed out the card game to the point where it became feasible and tangible, which is why it quickly came to exist in the real world. It's where he had a perfect team dynamic going with Yugi, Yami Yugi, Jonouchi, Anzu, Honda and Bakura, with Grandpa Moto as their mentor. It's where he perfected the writing of villains and side characters, with Pegasus and his minions, Mai, Haga, Ryuzaki, Ryota, Kozuka and "Bandit" Keith all standing out. It's where Seto Kaiba came into his own as a truly interesting character and worthy rival to Yugi. It had a fantastic environment in the titular Duelist Kingdom, and a perfectly paced structure across 8 volumes. And it was also the biggest game-changer in terms of the manga's overarching narrative: expertly linking together the three arcs that had come before and setting up the three arcs that would come afterward.
-DEATH-T Arc: Takahashi's personal favorite story arc, and I can certainly see why. While it has a rough start with a bizarre one-shot chapter about virtual pets and a two-parter that while fun has little to do with games at all, once Mokuba Kaiba is introduced it follows a sequential plot about the revenge of Seto Kaiba via his deadly game tournament, DEATH-T. While it would later be topped by Duelist Kingdom's McGuffin hunting to gain access to a castle to face its king, the format of scaling the floors of a tower, facing tougher and tougher challenges in order to reach the villain at the top was a highly engaging structure. And of course, there's the unforgettable emotional development of the characters: Yugi fighting for the life of his grandfather, the famous smiley face drawing on the hands of Yugi and his friends, Honda almost sacrificing his life, Yugi breaking down and confessing that he has an alternate personality to his friends, and the tragedy of the Kaiba brothers. It's brilliant stuff. Tbh, if not for Duelist Kingdom - and for Johji's existence - this arc would be my favorite too.
-Pharaoh's Memories Arc: The only real flaw of the manga's final story arc is that due to both editorial meddling and Takahashi having a health scare, it got cut short. It's certainly well paced at 7 volumes, but its material was enough for anywhere between 8 and 10 volumes, which means that there's no avoiding the feeling that several components are missing or otherwise not as fleshed out as they could have been. But that aside, this is a fantastic culmination of everything the series has been building toward, finally letting us see Ancient Egypt and the life Yami Yugi led when he was the Pharaoh, revealing what Yami Bakura's sinister end goal is, and ending with the most logical final duel possible: Yugi vs. Yami Yugi.
-Battle City Arc: This arc is dead middle in my ranking because it has some of the highest highs of the manga and some of the lowest lows all across its incomparably lengthy run. I adore the character development for characters like Yami Yugi, Jonouchi and Kaiba, I adore the Ishtar siblings and all that they bring to the table, I love getting Shizuka as an actual character and not just a plot device, I love the advancements in the overarching narrative, and I love the majority of the duels. But at the same time, the focus on the card game officially reaches the point of exhaustion and suspension of disbelief, running around Domino City isn't particularly interesting setting-wise, too much feels derivative of Duelist Kingdom, Yami Marik is a frustrating and one-dimensional villain, and what gets done with Mai is absolutely shameful. It's an iconic story arc, but I can't call it the best...in the manga, anyway.
-RPG Arc: The actual RPG part of this arc, which serves as the introduction of Ryou Bakura and Yami Bakura and thus when the series' overarching narrative starts revving up before Duelist Kingdom sends it full throttle, is fantastic. It's hilarious seeing Yugi and his friends as miniatures in a fantasy tabletop RPG world, it's great seeing Yugi and Yami Yugi interact with each other for the first time, and Yami Bakura is an immediately iconic, charismatic foe. The problem is that the handful of one-shot chapters preceding it were pretty weak. Takahashi admitted that he was running out of ideas for games at this point, and it shows (A phone game against a Ferris Wheel car bomber? Really?) And so its score for me gets lowered.
-Dungeon Dice Monsters Arc: The shortest arc in the series meets the baseline for just "good". The game is good, the antagonists are good, the actions and development undertaken by the main characters are good, the advancements made in the overarching narrative are good, and the climax is good. It's good, but in the shadow of arcs that are great.
-School Arc: Is anyone surprised? It's the first story arc, the point where Takahashi is still trying to figure everything else and enduring all the growing pains that many series can expect to go through at the start. It's average at worst, but always showed signs of potential for something better, particularly with the bond between Yugi and Jonouchi, the existence of Yami Yugi, and the Ancient Egyptian connection; potential that would be realized later on.
ANIME:
-Battle City Arc: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters was never better than it was in Battle City. Retaining all of the manga version's strengths while eliminating or mitigating its weaknesses while also adding some new positive changes of its own, not even being interrupted by a terrible filler arc can detract from how awesome this arc is. I will forever marvel, for example, how it took one of the weakest main antagonists of the manga, Yami Marik, and turned him into an iconic, entertaining freakshow that you actually love to hate rather than find tiring.
-Duelist Kingdom Arc: I love this arc. It was my introduction to Yu-Gi-Oh!, as I suspect it was for most people. I'd love to place it first just as I did its manga counterpart, but...well, that's the thing. The manga version was the dead middle arc of the series, whereas the anime version is the first arc. As such, there are countless changes for the weaker, all sorts of instances where context has been stripped away for certain plot beats and character arcs, and adaptational plot holes aplenty. It especially falls apart after Yugi defeats Pegasus: throwing in an abbreviated version of Shadi's first appearance, then rushing out of Duelist Kingdom so that Yugi can face a bratty girl back in Domino City, and then having a mini-arc centered around a video game parody of Duelist Kingdom run by Pegasus' co-conspirators from Kaiba Corp. It's a testament to the strength of Duelist Kingdom as an arc that it still remains by and large interesting and enjoyable despite all of this. It's a very solid 2nd place.
-Dark Side of Dimensions Arc: This arc is technically in the manga's continuity, but it's got the animators and voice-actors from the anime and is in anime format so I'm including it here. I enjoy the story, which is about all of the characters, particularly Yugi and Kaiba, reacting to life without Atem. While Yugi is moving forward with a newfound independence while still accepting support from his friends, Kaiba spirals into a co-dependent madness as he tries to find a way to resurrect Atem and duel him again, coming afoul of a group of supernatural kids who don't want that to happen. The only downsides of this movie is the mixing of manga continuity and trappings of the anime leading to some dissonance (especially in regards to Jonouchi), it has an unnecessary and lame "Save the World" second climax, and all of the duels are horrendously written and rushed, clearly beyond what the film's runtime could fit.
-Orichalcos Arc: OK, I know that this arc gets a bum rap, and a lot of it is deserved since it's got a lot of problems. But I'm sorry, there's so much about it that works and is really cool, and more that while badly executed held great potential in concept. Dartz and his minions are all superbly designed and have interesting dueling gimmicks, and they could have been truly epic villains if written better. The Atlantean lore held promise and could have been connected to Duel Monsters in a more sensible way. It's great seeing Yugi and his friends go to America, and having characters like Rebecca Hawkins, her grandfather Arthur, and Maximillion goddamn Pegasus himself return. And there are so many memorable moments, especially involving Yami Yugi once he gets forcibly separated from regular Yugi for much of the arc's second half ("It should have been me, not him! It's not fair!") So I can't help but appreciate it.
-Pharaoh's Memories Arc: There are many things to like about this arc - several of the manga's strengths are retained, some new additions are good such as the expanded roles for female characters Mana and Kisara, and in the Japanese version it has a banger of an OP and a banger of an ED! But there are just too many changes for the worse for my tastes: too much that got left out and too much that got added even when it went against the point of the original, most notably Seto Kaiba's whole presence ultimately at the expense of his past life.
-KC Grand Championship Arc: This could have been a short, simple and fun filler arc: before going back to Japan, Yugi and his friends compete in a Kaiba Corp tournament held at his newly opened American theme park. Unfortunately, the writers stupidly decided that this arc needed villains, which is why we have the Von Schroeder brothers and Vivian Wong, annoying foes who just end up dragging the whole experience down. It's the peak of the anime's misuse of Jonouchi when his final duel in the series is lost to Zigfried Von Schroeder of all people. That's right, not to Yami Bakura, but a fruity German Pegasus rip-off. Weak!
-Pyramid of Light Arc: Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie has great animation, a fantastic duel between Yugi and Kaiba, the interesting concept of the titular artifact and its connection to the Millennium Puzzle, a spectacular climax, and the presence of Maximillion goddamn Pegasus, so it's got a lot going for it. Sadly, it's dragged down by a short runtime that doesn't allow the plot to be developed in the way it should, a one-dimensional villain who is hardly ever on screen and lacks a solid motivation, and a campy even-by-its-usual-standards English dub.
-Virtual World Arc: Fuck this arc. It insultingly interrupts Battle City between its quarter-finals and semi-finals, rehashes the premise and villains from the post-Duelist Kingdom video game three-parter, begins the anime version of Kaiba's transformation into this overtly sympathetic, honorable and "cool" deuteragonist that he was never meant to be, features a new badly-written and badly-designed villain in Noah Kaiba, and just drags on and on until ending on an underwhelming and nonsensical conclusion that outright undermines the development that Kaiba is supposed to have in the remainder of the Battle City arc. The only decent parts of this arc are getting to see Anzu and even Shizuka duel. Otherwise it's a huge waste of time.
-Dungeon Dice Monsters Arc: There were changes to the Duelist Kingdom, Battle City and Pharaoh's Memories arcs, but they weren't total bastardizations of their source material. This, on the other hand, is. Remember when I said its manga counterpart was the definition of just "good"? Well, this is the definition of just "bad"! Nothing about it works. It's horrendous, poisoning the well on Ryuji as a character and kick-starting the anime's Jonouchi abuse, all while the most important and emotional material is moved to the start of the Battle City arc instead. Maximillion goddamn Pegasus' flashback cameo is the only worthwhile thing here.
-Capsule Monsters Arc: Yeah, this arc's not canon. I refuse to acknowledge it.

Matsuda's Second Shift
Day 27 of 31 of Kinktober
Prompt: Sex work
Word Count: 3576
Everyone's got a family to go home to. But Matsuda...Matsuda has to start his second job.
“Good work today everyone!” Matsuda chimed with his usual cheery disposition while everyone started packing up.  It had been a long day at the office and everyone was exhausted.  Visions of a comfortable bed and a hot meal tantalized all of the task force.  Aizawa going home to his wife and kids, Soichiro and Light going home to Sachiko’s pork katsu, even Mogi going home to something warm to put in his own belly that his mother had made the night before.  But that left Matsuda.  Matsuda, who would trudge up the stairs like he did every other night to his room in the task force headquarters.  Despite everything, there was something empty in him.
“You, too, Matsuda,” Soichiro praised him, “Light, are you ready?”
“Coming, Dad,” Light followed his father outside while Aizawa and Mogi weren’t too far behind.
“Yes,” L spoke softly, “Thank you for all your hard work today, gentlemen.”
“See you tomorrow, Ryuzaki,” Aizawa may not have been his biggest fan, but that wasn’t mean he was going to totally blow him off.
“You as well, Mr. Aizawa,” L stayed vigilant at the monitors while everyone else went home.  Everyone but Matsuda, who still sat at the bottom of the stairs.  And even though human emotion wasn’t exactly L’s strong suit, he could tell there was something Matsuda was hiding, “Something bothering you, Mr. Matsuda?”
“Hmm?” Matsuda perked up at the sound of his name, “Nope.  Everything’s fine, haha.”
“That’s good to hear,” L let it go, “Here I thought I had something to be worried about.”
“Nope.  I’m good.” How am I supposed to get out of here without L knowing?  He doesn’t need to know about this.  When everyone else got to go home at the end of the day, it was time for Matsuda to start his second shift.  But he needed a distraction, “So…Any big plans for the night?”
“Are you really attempting small talk with me, Matsuda?” L wondered.  Not that he was angry or upset by it.  It was mere curiosity.
“Just making conversation.” I need to know how long I’m going to be sitting on these steps.  If I miss the call, I’m screwed.
“If you must know,” L dropped another sugar cube in his coffee, his mind wandering, “I might just call it a night soon.  Light says I don’t relax enough and that it’s eventually going to drive me into the ground.”
“Light might have a point,” Matsuda nudged him along, hoping L would just go to bed, “It’d be pretty bad for the investigation if one of our best is out of commission.”
“One of our best, Mr. Matsuda?” L shot him a quick glance.
“Well…” Matsuda sputtered out, “I mean, come on, Ryuzaki.  You have to see it, too.  Between you and Light, you both practically run this entire investigation.  And Light’s not exactly stupid either.  You’re both brilliant in your own ways, but I mean, yeah, this is definitely your investigation, but-”
“Matsuda,” L hushed him, “I was screwing with you.  Hard to believe Light has the audacity to tell me I’m the one that needs to relax.  I’m not nearly the robot people seem to think I am.”
“Right,” Matsuda laughed it off, checking his watch.  Shit…I really need to get going.
“What about you?” L asked.  Mostly for Matsuda’s benefit.  Just so he felt a little special, “Any plans for the evening?”
“Actually,” Matsuda could feel the sweat rolling down his neck, “I need to get going.”
“And where are you headed off to?” L spun around in his chair with an out of character whimsy.  It was just Matsuda with him.  Even if he told the task force about him having a moment of childlike amusement, it’s not like they’d believe him.  Not that I wouldn’t know.  Even though you’re off the clock, you still have your tracker in your belt buckle.  I’d still know where to find you.
“Right,” Matsuda bit the inside of his cheek.  Ryuzaki hasn’t been in Japan long enough for him to know where everything is yet, has he?  He’s not going to know, “I’m meeting up with some friends.  I should be back later tonight.”
“Enjoy yourself,” L shooed him out.
“That’s the plan, haha,” Matsuda started walking up the stairs to his room.  Huh…That was easier than I thought.  Alright.  I have to do this quick.  I can get ready there.  That’s not a problem.  Matsuda got another glimpse at the clock.  Shit!  She’s going to be pissed!  Without another second lost, Matsuda sprinted back down the stairs and waved his goodbyes, “See you later, Ryuzaki!  Have a good night!”
L glanced down at his phone next to the keyboard.  That was the plan, Mr. Matsuda.  That was the plan.  L pulled up a separate screen to make sure he knew where his task force was.  Light and Soichiro’s dots were next to each other, so he could only assume they were home.  As were Mogi and Aizawa.  But he watched as Matsuda’s dot started heading for Shinjuku.  Shinjuku at this hour, Mr. Matsuda?  Naughty, naughty.  But L was no saint either.  He scrolled through his contacts before getting to one that was merely labeled X.
“Mr. Ryuga,” a woman’s voice rasped on the other end, “Always a pleasure to hear from one of my best clients.  How can I help you?  Ordering off the menu this evening or are you looking for something a little more specific?”
“You know what I like,” L told her, “Shy…Quiet…Doesn’t ask too many questions.  What do you have along those lines?”
“I think I got something for you.  It’s taking its sweet time getting delivered, but I think I can make a nice arrangement for you.”
“Thank you, Fujiko,” L smiled a bit, “It’s been a long week.  And an even longer day.”
“Aww…My poor baby.  Don’t you worry.  I got what you’re looking for.”
“And that’s why I keep coming back to you.  When should I expect it?”
“Give me about an hour,” she assured him, “I’ll have something nice sent right over.”
“Wonderful.”
Click.
“L,” Watari came out from the kitchen with a bowl of ice cream with everything on it, “I’ll be back later.  Are you going to be alright?”
“How long are you going to be gone?” L wondered.
“Maybe an hour or two,” Watari reported, “I’m going for wine and a good cigar.”
“Will you at least call before you come home?” L ran his pinky around the edge of the bowl and licked the melted ice cream off.
“Of course,” Watari put his hat on and started walking toward the door, “Don’t get into mischief, Lawliet.”
“Yes, Mr. Wammy,” L rolled his eyes, “I won’t.”
“Good boy,” Watari walked out the door and left L to his devices.  And he kept watching the little dots on his screen.
Meanwhile, Matsuda burst through the doors of what looked like a hotel in Shinjuku.  However, it was no hotel.  Every corner was decorated in jewel toned luxury fabrics.  The chandelier dripped with real crystal and diamonds.  Hardly anyone could breathe the air in that lobby for less than ten grand.  And there was no receptionist waiting for him.  Instead, it was a large woman, glaring him down, “You’re late, Touta…”
“I know, Mama,” Matsuda winced, “I got a little tied up at the other office.”
“Excuses, excuses, sweetheart,” she took him by the hand.  And an idea popped into her head, “Maybe you’re not too late.”
“What do you mean?” Matsuda wondered.
“You’re on call tonight,” she smirked, “And I just got a call.  Come on.  Mama will get you all taken care of herself while she tells her little pet where he’s off to tonight.”
“Yes, Mama,” Matsuda knew he was already on thin ice with her.  Agreeing to whatever Mama had for him was his best chance at avoiding any punishment.
“Good boy, Touta,” she cradled his cheek in her palm, “Because this particular client has some deep pockets and if no one else called us for as long as we were open for business but him, we’d be just fine.”
“That’s good to hear,” Matsuda relaxed a bit.  But he knew better.  Deep pockets always came with a price.  He sat down in front of Mama’s mirror and knew he’d be there a while, “What do you got for me?”
“He’s a very private man,” she started digging through the drawers in search of foundation, “And he’s got a soft spot for a shy, quiet type.  He’ll be the one to take charge, so you need to let him do that.  And he likes submissive, but there needs to be just a little resistance.  He likes the chase but hates to run, if that makes any sense.”
“Alright,” Matsuda flinched under her brush, “I think I can handle that.”
“I know you can, sweetheart,” Mama pulled Matsuda’s chin up, “Because your future here depends on it.  I know what kind of dire straits you’re in, Touta.  I can make it all go away with the snap of my fingers.  And I know what you do in the daylight.  I can make that go away, too.”
“I know, Mama,” Matsuda glanced down, doing anything he could to break eye contact, “I’m sorry for being late tonight.  I really did get tied up at the office.”
“And if you’re lucky,” she teased him a bit, “You’ll get tied up with our client tonight, too.”
“Really?” Matsuda wondered, “He’s into bondage?”
“It wouldn’t surprise me,” she shrugged, “Stay still.”
“Sorry,” Matsuda stiffened up.
“Good boy,” Mama started doing contour, highlighting Matsuda’s already soft and delicate features, “You’re so pretty, Touta…I’m so glad you’re one of mine.  Of all the madams in Tokyo you could’ve come to…You wouldn’t think to leave me either, would you?”
“Of course not, Mama,” Matsuda promised, “You’ve treated me well over the last couple years.  You brought me in at my lowest and I don’t think I’d ever be able to repay you for that.”
“Aww…” She gave Matsuda a little kiss on his forehead, leaving a light pink lipstick mark on his skin, “You’re such a sweetheart.  You know, I’m kind of surprised no one’s thought to snap you up and put a ring on it yet.”
“I couldn’t get that lucky,” Matsuda laughed nervously, “I’m too tangled up in work.”
“What?  The NPA can’t be bothered to issue you a love life?”
“It’s not that,” Matsuda squinched his face while his setting spray went on, “Because a lot of the guys I work with are married and have families of their own.”
“Relax your face, honey…”
“Sorry,” Matsuda did his best to keep his head about him and let his face fall, “You’d think at least one of our clients would’ve developed feelings for me.”
“Oh, no, no, no, baby,” Mama stopped him, “Trust me.  That’s not a route you want to go down.  We sell fantasies.  We don’t sell reality.  That’s not a jump you want to make.  Because with a lot of our clients, that jump is going to make them lose interest.  I love you, Touta, but the second you’re not what they paid for, you’d be out on your ass.  You’re cute and you’re sweet, but we sell the slut, not the housewife.  You know what I mean?”
“Yeah,” Matsuda slumped down in his chair with long, well manicured fingers tangled up in his hair, “I know.  It’d be nice, though.”
“That’s why you escort,” she scratched the top of his head, putting him a little more at ease, “Making you available for the girlfriend experience would be a disaster on you.  I’m saving you from the heartache.”
“Thanks, Mama,” Matsuda laid his head in her hip, “I appreciate that.”
“For now, though,” Mama looked him over in the mirror, “I think you’re good.  Go on.  Go get dressed.  You know where the closet is.”
“Yes, Mama,” Matsuda got up from her chair and started walking out of her office, “Wait, Mama, it’d probably be for the best if I at least knew what this guy’s name was.”
“Touta, you’ve been around here long enough,” she rolled her eyes, “You should know these men don’t know real names.  Hell, most of them are hiding affairs.  But I know how you are about that sort of thing.  You might be one of my sluts, but you’re not a homewrecking slut.  He doesn’t have anyone that I know of.  But you’ll be seeing Mr. Ryuga.”
“Ryuga…” Matsuda thought back.  But then, his heart sunk to his feet, “Like…The pop idol, Ryuga?!”
“I doubt they’re the same guy,” she settled him, “Go on.  Go put something nice on for him.  I’ll have the car up front waiting for you.”
“Ok,” Matsuda walked down the hall to the wardrobe room and started skimming through the racks with a couple of the other guys on the schedule for the night.  Ryuga…I know I have to be discreet about this kind of thing, but if I’m really going to be with THAT Ryuga, I don’t think I’ll be able to cope!  How would I be able to keep something like that to myself?  I’d at least have to tell Misa about that.  I know she could keep her mouth shut about that.  But then, she’d know too much.  And I’m sure that would get back to Mama.  She’d kill me!  Alright.  I can do this.  It’s just another night at the office.
Once Matsuda was already dressed and ready to go, he got into the back of the nice town car Mama called for him.  He kept his bag in his lap filled with all the fun that would await him.  He pulled the zipper on it, just to make sure it was all there.  All the condoms, lubricants, massage oils, and a couple toys if his client was into that sort of thing.  He liked to keep a variety, just to keep things interesting for whoever he was seeing.  Especially if they were repeat customers.  But Matsuda had never seen Mr. Ryuga before.  It wasn’t often he got someone new.  But he wasn’t going to complain.  Much like he did to keep his clients guessing, it still needed to be a little fun for him, too.  But once the car stopped, Matsuda looked out the window, scratching his head.  What…?  Why did the driver bring me here?  I know Mama knows what I do for a living before the sun goes down, but there’s no way she knows where the task force headquarters is.  It’s just like every other nondescript building in the city.
What do I do?  Dare I even get out?  Worse yet, do I go inside like this?  No.  Mama’s incredible with contour.  I’m sure I could go undetected.  But…Who the hell would be ordering an escort here?!  No.  This must be a mistake.  I’m sure it’s a mistake.  Matsuda leaned up to the driver, “Excuse me, but where are we supposed to be going?”
“This is the address Ms. Fujiko gave me,” the driver told him, showing the text.
“Yeah…” Matsuda chuckled nervously, “I guess you’re right.  My mistake.”
Shit…How am I going to go in there?  How am I supposed to face whoever…No…No way.  I know Mama said his name was Mr. Ryuga, but…No.  I’m overthinking this.  There’s no way Watari would…No.  Matsuda could feel his stomach turn.  He knew if he went in there, his day job would be compromised.  But if he didn’t go in there, Mama would be furious and end him.  Matsuda bit his lip and swallowed his pride.  I can do this.  Like Mama said, deep pockets.  Deep pockets.  If this makes me lose my day job, then I have the night one to fall back on.  And I’m sure I could stay at the brothel until I got back on my feet.  I’ll be fine.  I’ll be fine.
Matsuda mustered up the necessary courage to get out of the car and walked to the front door.  As much as he wanted to reach for the door handle, he had to go in like a civilian.  So, instead of opening the door, he rang the doorbell.  And a little voice barked out of the speaker, “Yes?”
“I’m…” Matsuda cleared his throat, doing his best to disguise his voice.  Wait…That sounded like L, “I’m here for Mr. Ryuga…?”
The doors automatically opened and Matsuda slowly made his way inside.  There was a strange chill in the air.  Like he wasn’t supposed to be there, even though he had been there a million times over.  Even though he lived there.  Something still didn’t feel right.  This is fine.  Everything is going to be fine.  I’m sure I’ll be alright.  I already have a backup plan if this goes sideways.  I’ll be alright.  And if need be, I’ll get back in the car.  I’ll tell Mama that Mr. Ryuga crossed boundaries and I’ll stay in the brothel until the heat dies down and I’ll get the night off.  Everything’s fine.
“Are you Tsuyoshi?” a familiar voice asked from the monitors.
Matsuda’s heart stopped at the sound of his fake name.  By the looks of things, there was only one person left at the task force, “Y…Yes.  That’s me.”
“Are you sure about that?” the screen showed the map with all the dots on it, “Because this little dot right here tells me you’re Touta Matsuda instead.”
It was at that moment, Matsuda broke all character, “How did you know it was me?”
“How else?” L spun around in his chair, getting an eyeful of the present Fujiko sent for him, “You’re wearing a tracker in your belt, Matsuda.  I know where you are at all times.  You think I’m not going to see you go to Shinjuku, go into the brothel, and come right back here?  Granted, I am a little surprised to see you here like this under these circumstances.”
“I’m a little surprised to see you ordering an escort,” Matsuda laughed it off.  Because what else could he do?  It was either brush this off like a funny misunderstanding or face the reality of it.
“I have needs, too,” L shrugged, “Like I said before, I’m not the robot everyone seems to think I am.  But I’m confused.  What are you doing working for Fujiko?”
“I…” Matsuda could feel it.  The tears coming up from behind his eyes.  He didn’t want to start crying, but he couldn’t stop himself, “I have someone I need to take care of.  My regular salary couldn’t keep up with it, so I started escorting.”
“I’m assuming it’s your grandmother, yes?” L figured, “I figured she was having some health complications.  You moved her into a decent facility, but it’s eating away at your bank account.  Am I wrong?”
“No…” Matsuda wiped his eyes, “She was the one who raised me, Ryuzaki.  I know the inevitable is coming, but if it has to, I at least want her to be comfortable.  I know she wouldn’t approve of me selling my body like this, but what else am I supposed to do?  I don’t need everyone taking more pity than they already do on me.”
“You talk too much, Matsuda,” L rolled his eyes, already pulling up a page for a luxury nursing home fairly close by, along with all of Matsuda’s grandmother’s information, “She’ll be moved by Monday.  And it’s already taken care of.  I’m sure she has another ten good years in her.  At least she will with this particular facility.  It’s one of the best in the country.”
“Wait,” Matsuda’s heart fell into his feet, “Are you serious?  Did you just…?”
“I did,” L nodded, “I’m also not heartless.  By the sounds of it, you have the same relationship with your grandmother as I do with Watari.  The longer they can stick around, the better.”
“Thank you,” Matsuda felt the second wave of crying bubble up in the back of his throat, “You didn’t have to do that.”
“And you didn’t have to be the one Fujiko sent to me,” L pointed out, “But here you are.”
“And…” Matsuda wondered, “You’re not going to judge me…?”
“Matsuda, I ordered you,” L got up from his chair, “I have no room for judgments.  And your intentions, albeit an awkward way of going about it, were pure and noble.  I can’t fault you for that.”
“Thank you,” Matsuda let out a heavy sigh of relief, “I should go.”
“Should you?” L cradled Matsuda’s face in his palm, “You think I’m constantly staring those monitors down for fun?  You think I don’t catch your reflection in them from time to time and see the little untapped treasure you are to me?  Fujiko already took the money up front.  I’m going to take you upstairs.  Do you understand…Tsuyoshi?”
“Um…” Matsuda felt the heat rushing to his cheeks and his loins, “Um…Yes.”
“Yes, what?” This wasn’t Matsuda’s L.  This wasn’t the same Ryuzaki he saw every day at work.  But then again, this wasn’t the same Matsuda that L saw at work either.  There was a certain flame in L’s eyes that did something to Matsuda.  Something that was going to make work a little awkward in the morning.  But he also had a job to do.
“Yes, sir.”
“Good boy,” L praised him, “Come on.  Upstairs.  You know where my room is.”

Death Note One-Shot(?)
A duel POV between Light and L, detailing their manipulative relationship with each other.
Word Count: 1,562
Rating: G
Warnings: Manipulation, Brief mentions of gore

It was almost laughably easy.
From the moment Light met Ryuga– Ryuzaki– no, L, he could tell the detective could be bought. Not with money or favours, no. That would be too obvious. L could be bought with love.
The first time, it had been an accident. While walking around the University campus, Light accidentally let his hand brush L’s. It was a split second of barely-there contact, but it was enough. L and Light were just about matched when it came to masking their emotions, but that made them excellent at reading each other. So when L’s cowed gait paused for a fraction of a millisecond and his voice cracked at that moment, Light knew what he needed to do.
He had to keep it slow. Working over L wasn’t like seducing Misa. Misa would do anything Light asked of her, no questions asked. Her devotion was undoubted. But L was not like that. His distrustful nature caused him to scrutinise every one of Light’s actions, innocuous or not. The looming “Kira percentage” hung over his head like a noose. But even a noose was made of rope.
And Light had the sharpest scissors around.
For this to work properly, Light kept their relationship platonic. But the promise of something more held thick in the air. He made that quite clear. The small graze of kneecaps while sitting close to one another, an occasional complement of his intellect, the very rare arm around his shoulder, all of which he knew made L weak. Everyone else may be fooled, but Light wasn’t.
Soon, L became the primary instigator of their physical contact. He became increasingly touchy as time went on, actively reaching out for Light’s comfort. Friendly pats and shoves turned into a constant vice grip on Light’s sleeve, careful banter turned into intelligent conversation and debate. All according to plan.
After Light and Misa’s confinement, things had changed, though. While of course, he couldn’t remember the Death Note or his role as Kira, Light continued his objective. Something in him knew he needed to get closer. But L’s idea with the handcuffs only made it easier. Sometimes Light wondered if he did it on purpose. But it doesn't matter. It would all turn out the way he wanted in the end.
While their relationship remained ambiguous for now, Light was sure that would change soon.
“Light,” L’s voice remained steady, as always, “Are you… ready for bed?” He clutched a laptop in that odd way of his, pinched between his forefingers and thumbs, which couldn’t have been easy with the device’s weight.
“‘Bed?’ That’s a first for you, Ryuzaki.” He commented, spinning towards L in his chair. Light chuckled, “What’s going on?” ‘Ask about his feelings. Act concerned.’ That voice in the back of his head said.
L looked up at the ceiling, remaining in silence for several quiet seconds. He bit his bottom lip tentatively before speaking, “It is 1:42 AM, Light. All the rest of the Task Force have returned to their residences. Usually you insist upon us returning to our room by 10:00 PM– no later. You’ve indulged me tonight. I would like to return the favour, per se. You’re only human. You depend on sleep.”
A crease formed upon his hair-covered brow, tensing at the word human. He was obviously looking for a reaction from the man he presumed to be Kira.
Light didn’t give him what he wanted. “Alright, you’ve convinced me.” He stood from his chair, powering down his computer. A few steps forward and he landed mere inches from L’s face. On purpose, of course.
If L didn’t stand with such awful posture, the two would be about the same height, perhaps even taller. But like this, Light looked down at him, a gentle played smile on his face. He didn’t miss when L stared down at those lips.
“Well?” Light laughed when L remained transfixed, “Are we going to bed or not?”
L stared a moment longer, “Yes, of course.” Unceremoniously, he whipped around and started out the door, dragging Light with him.
Hook, line, and sinker.
– • –
L is not a stupid man. Quite the contrary, in fact. He’s literally the smartest man in the world. L holds the position of the top three best detectives to have ever lived. He’s solved countless cases in mere weeks that officials couldn’t in years.
But if he really is all that, why couldn’t he figure out Light Yagami?
The teenager, only two years his junior, could somehow manipulate him into whatever this was. L did not– could not make attachments. Anyone who got close to him more often than not suffered for it. He trained his mind out of feelings like love or care for another human being so long ago. But it all went down the drain when he met Light.
L had never been one to appreciate physical attractiveness or charm (most serial killers were extremely attractive and charming men, after all) until he first laid eyes upon the chief’s son in real life. Watching Light over cameras in his room was one thing, pure investigation– clinical. Then, on stage at the To-Oh University entrance ceremony, he set eyes upon that (for lack of a better term) god-like smile. L instantly understood why so many girls fell head-over-heels for him.
If Light really did end up being Kira, L didn’t know what he’d do.
Then, when Light started to initiate closer contact, wrapping an arm around his shoulder, grabbing his hand over a table to show him something, L started to short-circuit. Completely blue-screen for a few seconds.
L knew he was being played, to an extent. Somewhere in the back of his head, he knew getting close to Light was a poor decision. As nice as the other man’s comfort felt, a more rational part of him vied to pull away and yell at him, scream “I know you’re Kira, Light! Quit the act already and tell me what you want!”
Of course, he couldn’t say that. It was much too direct and would probably only worsen his situation. So unfortunately, the less rational, more emotional part of L he thought had long been dead, resurrected and possessively wrapped his arms around Light like a child refusing to let go of a toy. But for now, he kept it under wraps. Out of sight, out of mind.
“You’ve acted odd today, Ryuzaki.” Light popped into the corner of his vision, emerging from their shared bathroom. The handcuff on his wrist pulled taut from their distance.
L raised a brow, “Have I?” He typed away at his laptop, perched under the covers in their bed.
“Yes.” Crossing to the other side of the bed, Light methodically pulled the sheets down, folding them back without a crease in sight. L could not understand how he stayed so meticulous this sleep-deprived. “First, you hardly talk at the Task Force meeting, then you hardly eat all day, and now you’re the one insisting we head to bed. On a normal day, I have to drag you kicking and screaming to even get you out of the office.”
“Incorrect. I do not kick nor scream. I merely don’t function on the same amount of sleep as other people.” He did not look up when Light settled beside him, folding his hands behind his head. If he gazed upon those near-perfect cheekbones in the dim light of the lamp, L would simply never recover. He focused on the spreadsheet he was typing.
Light let out an exasperated sigh, nudging him with an elbow. “That’s not an answer to my question.”
“You never asked one.”
“Well– It was implied.”
“Please learn to speak plainly, Light. You are well aware I am not adept at social cues.” Click clack click clack.
Light groaned, “You’re really insufferable, you know, right? I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.” He put a hand over L’s, putting an end to his work. “If you’re feeling sick, you should really rest. Kira will still be there in the morning.”
“You sound quite certain about that,” L kept his focus on the computer, although he had stopped typing anything. Deflect. Deflect. “How will you know Kira will be there in the morning? It almost seems like you want me to be sick…”
Light threw his hands in the air, the chain whooshing up in front of L’s face. “Alright, whatever– Be like that. God forbid I try to help once in a while, jeez.” And the wall went right back up, separating their minds once again. L usually had no trouble reading people– Matsuda called him a “human lie detector”– but Light was different. Light’s psyche was one he simply couldn’t crack, and for seemingly no reason. But for some reason, it felt like the other boy could stare right into L’s very soul. Sooner or later, he expected to be dead because of it.
Visions of Light reaching into his chest and tearing out his heart danced through his mind. Honestly, if Light really did do it, L probably wouldn’t object. And that’s scary.
Light rolled over in bed, facing away from him. L continued to click clack away at his keyboard all the night, only pausing a few times to listen to Light breathe.
And improvement from last night, at least.

Onward to Gerudo Town!
A Legend of Zelda/Yu-Gi-Oh! DM crossover fic by Megaeevee
Haga peels his cheek away and lifts his head. Apart from some pink herons that fly away when they get too close, the valley is deserted. They had passed another traveller, a tall, shapely Gerudo, near the start of their journey, and that kept them going for a long time. But now, with no signs of any other soul about, Haga begins to worry that they’d somehow taken the wrong road. Nevermind that there is nowhere else they could possibly go. The sheer, redstone cliffs hem them in nicely on either side, making the valley feel almost claustrophobic. Just when Haga is beginning to panic, the horse happens across a piece of uneven terrain causing them all to rise briefly, and in that split second, Haga’s head is tilted at just the right angle to catch sight of something in the sky. He looks again - and he was right! “Smoke!” he cries. Ryuzaki lets out a triumphant yell. They’ve found the other stable, the mid point of their journey. They won’t be dying today, at least.

A fic inspired by Ten Thousand Year Elegy but with a complete galaxy brain take of its own - RYUZAKI AND HAGA IN HYRULE! (You don't need to have read TTYE to enjoy this. Just accept the premise that even on an isekai odyssey caused by exploding KaibaCorp tech, our favourite paleontology & entomology dream team have still managed to tag along and get into trouble along the way.)
This is an immensely enjoyable little one-shot that manages to flip between sweet, funny, clever and thoughtful in the space of sentences. Also PLEASE Haga and Beedle interacting is pure genius crossover magic!! Bowl cut entomologists will find each other in any universe!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this Megaeevee (& for being a longtime reader & commenter <3) I hope you'll all check it out too!!

Death Note: The Golden Pen
Heya! I’m helping @sundove88 with their Anime Ever After Project! I decided to work with DN, which is being told in a King Midas inspired AU! Timeline wise, this takes place after Light’s father passes away.
————————————————————————
Chapter 1: Money Makes the World Go Around
In a small house in Tokyo, a demonic force haunts the upper bedroom. Said force, an 18 year old man with brown hair and matching eyes, sits at a desk , looming over a book. He’s pretending to look busy in case his mother came up. He had mastered the art of pretending; he had pretended to be the hard working, kind son of a police chief, when in reality, he was Kira, the now infamous international killer. In truth, his name was Light Yagami. And despite what he might tell you, he found his murder weapon by chance: the Death Note, a notebook used by Shinigami , the Gods of Death, to kill humans when their time came. How did a human end up with one? Beside Light’s table, on his bed laid a strange, scary looking figure. All purple skin and blue hair, bulging eyes and soot black wings. This is Ryuk, a Shinigami who, in a fit of boredom, dropped his notebook in the human world. Light found it, developed a god complex, and the rest of history.
Light sighs, and Closes his death note, setting it aside and turning on his computer “things are running smoothly for now. With Dad gone, and mom distracted with Sayu, I’m free on the family front…if I could just get L off my case..” he mutters “media is starting to lean more Pro Kira…will need to find another rich guy to keep that going..” he clicks on an evil icon on his homescreen, opening a hyper encrypted page which he signs into “funds are really down-“ he huffs “we can’t keep paying Mekami. Or our other informant…dammit-“ he growls. “If I kill anymore bigwigs people will get suspicious…” he sighs, looking over at Ryuk Munching down a bag of apples “hey…if you don’t want your entertainment to end, you better find some way to help-“
Ryuk chuckles “what? The great Kira having a moral dilemma?” Light huffs a dry laugh “hardly. But if a lot of rich people give us money as part of the death note’s power, others are going to start hiding theirs, meaning the well will dry up, so to speak.” He stands up, stretches, and glares “besides…L is already suspicious about the last ‘suicide’” Light feels hate boil up in his Chest when he thinks about his Rival. L is his one true opponent to taking over this world completely. Despite everything, the detective still stands in his way. Ryuk laughs “if you’re so worried about Money, I can help you with that too-“
Light looks at the other “really?” His eyes widen and his smile stretches a bit “how so?” Ryuk chuckles “well…some Shinigamis have access to something called a Golden Pen. If you use the pen to write your victims’ name, you’ll gain all their money on their death-“ Light grins manically “oh…and do you have access to one?” He shots the Shinigami a Look that almost scares the creature. Ryuk forces a chuckle “c-can definitely find one-“
Light takes out a bag of Sakai-Ichi apples. “Get it for me, and I can give these to you-“ he grins. Ryuk nods eagerly, disappearing to probably trick his fellow death gods into parting with their Pens.
Light grins “once I have enough money, it’ll be all over for you..L?” He realizes L has sent the group chat for the Kira Taskforce a message. He clicks on the icon and starts to giggle
Ryuzaki: @everyone, I have news. Due to concern about our ability to fight Kira, three new people will be joining us. They are my Heirs, treat them well.
Light laughs, shaking with the force of it “oh, perfect. I can take out his mini mes too. Then no one will stand in my way. Oh, L…Judgement Day is coming-“
The night grows cold

I recently rewatched Death Note, its been one of my fave anime since I first watched it and it still is :) Some thoughts (hidden for spoilers):
-I know the common opinion is that the rest of the show after L dies isn't as good. I recently learned that the anime actually rushed it/skipped stuff from the manga, which is unfortunate :/. I noticed that there were much less inner monologues during the latter half; disappointing to me bcuz 1. it made it harder to follow the logic, and 2. it would've helped develop the Light vs Near dynamic and make us viewers feel more invested. It would have been nice if the anime had more episodes so it wouldn't feel so rushed. We also don't really get to know Mello and Near very well, which sucks cuz now everyone thinks they're not as good as L (which might still be true, but at least give them a fighting chance lmao). The worst victim has gotta be Mello's friend Matt who shows up in one scene just to get shot at by a group of people and die. Its funny to think about cuz why did they do him like that lol.
-L is still my fave <3. The OG autistic anime boy. When I first watched I was so surprised when he died that I felt like I was in shock for the rest of the day. I'm not usually that affected by character deaths but that one really got me. This time around I braced myself for it, but its not that bad when you know its coming. Still, Fs in the chat for him o7.
-On the other hand, I remember I hated Light lmao. I disagree with him but then also the whole "I'm a god" ego thing was off-putting to me. Now that I'm older I think maybe I can appreciate his character a little more. He's still dumb tho, killing criminals isn't gonna magically make the world better. I guess that's part of his character, the way he is so naive. There's also the question of whether the death note corrupted him or if he was always like that. Maybe a bit of both? That might be what's interesting about him. Tbh I feel like the death note would corrupt anyone :O
-I don't think I ever gave much thought to the relationship between Light and L, but now that I'm thinking about it, its kinda fascinating. Like, they don't really like each other, but they're also obsessed with each other. The most joy in life they have is this intellectual back-and-forth game they are playing. When Light says "its boring without Ryuzaki" and then multiple times he's like "Near u suck ur not as good as L" like why are u thinking about another man that much lmao. Anime rivalry/toxic yaoi go brrrr.
-Misa deserved better. She was basically written out near the end when she had to give up her death note again. 2 shinigami died for her and yet she barely gets to do anything damn lmao.
-I saw a youtube comment about Matsuda that was really cool. It said he was like a son to Soichiro, more than his actual son, which made it meaningful when Matsuda was the one to shoot Light at the end. Matsuda was also the only one who would sometimes say that Kira maybe had a point, so there's another meaning to him shooting LIght. Idk I just think that's a neat detail.
-Never 4get the memes. The potato chip scene. All according to keikaku. "I've even brought America to its knees". "DELETE DELETE DELETE". The other cop pocketing the strawberry that L gives him instead of just eating it. This show is so silly :)
This got kinda long whoops. TL;DR: Death Note good. Also, stan L :)

New one-shot, but with fem!light this time. I couldn't stop getting ideas, so I had to write it down. Here is just first part of the fic, whole story is posted on AO3.
The room of the main investigation room was quiet again as everyone retired for the night's rest. Half of the team went home, while the other half went to their new rooms, each of which was on a separate floor, leaving the detective to be only one present in the room. The man could only hear the tapping of his fingers on the keyboard in the dim room when another sound joined it.
The sound of someone's footsteps.
The footsteps were almost inaudible, but L knew very well who those footsteps belonged to.
His prime suspect was in the room with him. He knew that there's no need to turn around though, he only spoke in his monotone: "couldn't sleep again, Light-chan?"
But L didn't get any answer right away, just like he expected, because he already knew the girl very well. The girl walked over to her chair, the chair she always sat in while they worked diligently on the case during the day, and seated herself back into it with a sigh. She put the glass of water on the table and said, "yeah, I can't sleep... obviously. Otherwise I wouldn't be here."
L smirked at the choice of words and the tone in which they were delivered, and added, to annoy the young woman a bit more, "that's quite normal for criminals, I would say, some of them have a guilty conscience that doesn't allow them to sleep peacefully." When he finished he glanced at her, with his innocent look, to see her reaction.
"Oh, fuck off, Ryuzaki! How many times do I have to tell you that I'm not Kira!" She immediately retorted and L could sense her irritation growing. Just as he planned. L still didn't know exactly why he liked to challenge her like this and push her buttons. Or... maybe he knew? The young woman provoked him many times, in many ways, and L couldn't not respond.
Even this was in a way a challenge for him - she coming to him like this in her nightgown, in the middle of the night, without any shame - 'what was she thinking??'
It is one thing when he see her on the cameras in her room, and the other thing when she materialize like this in front of him.
Suggestive... his inner voice whispers.
'She cannot sleep...' the other part of his mind reasoned.
And he is already getting ideas on how to--
L tried not to stare, he really tried, but it was impossible. Even when he tried his best, he failed. Light's breasts seemed to beckon him to touch them and to do to them whatewer he wants, even as Light's eyes glared back at him. And of course, to this addition Light didn't have a bra underneath, so her nipples were clearly visible making him hard in his jeans slowly but surely, which wasn't a good thing to happen in that moment.
L reminded himself what they were and it helped him, but only a little this time. He was sure that she was aware of her attractiveness and perhaps trying to mess with his mind and trying to seduce him in a bit non-traditional way. Her acting skills were exquisite, L has already learned that by now.
"Even if you tell me that for the millionth time, it's no use until you prove it..." L stated calmly, looking her piercingly in the eyes, "and you know that. You're a smart girl, so you must know that those words of yours are empty."
In the dimness of the room L could still see how her cheeks flushed and how she shyly looked away.
"Sadly, I have no proof... for now. And you also know that." She said after a brief moment.
"That's fair... but why can't you sleep then?"
"I don't know... I just can't sleep."
"Nightmares?"
"Sometimes... but nothing too drastic."
"You're probably missing your home then."
"Maybe... but I don't feel that way."
Well L noticed that this had been happening for several nights in a row, but usually Light would fall asleep by one hour and always staying in her room.
"I thought a short walk and a glass of water would help a little..."
"And a little chat with the greatest detective in the world. You forgot to add that." L grinned at her.
Light snorted, and covered her mouth as she started to laugh. She was suppressing her laughter, but L was glad that he managed to make her smile. Her face was no longer so serious and frowning. At least for now. Yes, L enjoyed to push her buttons, but also loved when he was the reason that improved her mood.
"Don't flatter yourself..." she added when she regained back her composure. "Yeah... well, I don't know why I came here to tell you the truth..."
"Maybe because you thought I would have a solution...? For your problem?" L said, more suggestively than he intended to, and his next mistake was to glance at ther breasts right after.
Light aburptly stood up, L barely had time to blink, and splashed that glass of water over him. L gasped in surprise and looked up at her in confusion, sitting still in his chair like a wet kitten, blinking his big eyes at her.
"You pervert!" She exclaimed glaring down at him, "making such suggestions, are you not ashamed!?"
"W-what!? I... I didn't make any sugesstions..." L maked an innocent face again and wiped the excess water from his face with his sleeve and started to get up. The corners of his lips curled up slightly so that his statement held no credibility.
"Somehow I don't believe you..."
"I'm sorry, but you misunderstood me. I don't think there was any need for you to immediately jump on me like this..." Well, here he was. Making another series of suggestions. He just couldn't help himself, but also it was her fault for reading it how it was meant to, no?
The rest is avilable only on AO3.

Ryuzaki laughed "hah kinky well come on old man hit me with your best shot" he grinned his tendrils lunging for pitch
-
Cass listened to jack and smiled softly
"Seems we both just needed to find the one. I can't say iv had many partners eheh" he rubbed the back of his head
💍 (Cuz it be funny xD)
Send me ‘💍’ for our muses to wake up married after a night of heavy drinking
Jack opened his eyes slowly. Ugh.. His head felt like it was about to burst, his stomach felt sore and his mouth was as dry as could be.
The boy curled up and groaned slightly to himself, he could not remember a thing.. All he knew was that this was the last time he would challange north to a shot competition.
Something didn't feel right tho, he could feel there was someone else in the bed... Hold on? Whos bed was this? He rolled over, staring into an unfamiliar face. The white haired boy sat up quickly, only to fall out of bed, noticing that he was naked, instead of one thing, a ring on his left hand.

Battle Golfer Yui | GENESIS LongPlay [046]
Gil Hazard, president of the Hazard Foundation, is secretly Professor G, the leader of the evil Dark Hazard organization. He has designs on world domination, and has plans to use the power of golf toward this end; this is the Battle Golfer project. Yui Mizuhara and Ran Ryuzaki are two ordinary high school girls who just so happen to be golf prodigies, and so are prime candidates for the Battle Golfer project. They are abducted by Professor G, but are rescued by a mysterious man before they can be taken under his control. Having escaped, Yui hears about a golf tournament being held by the Hazard Foundation, and suspecting more nefarious plans, she secretly enters the tournament to stop him for good. Battle Golfer Yui is a unique genre fusion between a golf game and a Japanese-style adventure game. The main adventure mode casts the player as Yui competing in the Hazard Cup tournament. The player can interact with other characters on the course, and will need to defeat several different opponents at match play on oddly-themed courses in order to proceed. The system is quite simple and fast-paced; simply choose a direction, a club, spin, and hit the bar with the right timing to adjust shot power. Each character also has special abilities to help them out, but these are limited in use. There is also a regular golf mode for one or two players, offered as both stroke and match play.
